Team Lead: Anyone has any concern on their tasks? I'll see what I can do to help.
Me: Yeah I'm afraid I would not be able to finish my task on time because of its complexity.
Team Lead: Try harder.
What's the point of asking?11 -
This is the first FUCKING time i succesfully made a responsive site without any frameworks on my own, and i couldnt be more proud.
I mean the design sucks ass but thats not the point.26 -
On a serious note, most developers really don’t code complex algorithms all the time. The bar for interviews is way too high— to the point that most people get discouraged from pursuing a career in IT.17

*on the phone with a client*
Important detail: in Dutch we call a colon a "double point" and a semicolon a "point comma".
Me: go to {url} and put double point followed by {something} behind it.
Client: *tries for 5 minutes, suggestions forth and back*
Me: how did you type the double points?
Client: I typed two points. (..)
The level of retardness I thought existed got worse once again.
At that moment the open window seemed like a veeery good option 😭15 -
I need to render point clouds in OpenGL for a project I'm working on. The problem is it just becomes too damn slow when the point cloud size increases. So I'm trying to use LOD methods and nested octrees to speed things up. Also, I need to render text too in my OpenGL scene. So now I'm stuck trying to show proper labels using Qt and OpenGL which is completely pissing me off by the way. And I'm not doing the actual speeding up thing I was working on earlier on and before that I was working on the actual function of my program. So I'm now deviated from the deviation.
Fuck my brain.4 -
Pair programming seemed awesome, until I started mentoring the guy who doesn't believe in holding farts.
I mean, I know everyone needs some relief now and then, but when I'm leaning over your shoulder to point out a bug in your code?
Fuck you, dude. You're on your own5 -
Sales Advisor: "4GB is more on a mac.. they use different measurements.."... at that point I gave up trying to get some info out of him10
-
Outside the country and I've got unlimited roaming throughout Europe including 4g but I've been stuck on 3g and 5-600 kb/s for nearly the entire vacation.
Changed the access point type with one word and BAM, 4g!
This stuff is weird. 😐11 -
I guess Elon Musk is too focused on colonizing mars to the point that he forgot to improve PayPal's API docs.16

Asked Google Assistant what it knew about me. Didn't expect this answer but surprisingly point on.
All that neural and machine learning is paying off in a seriously creepy way.
BTW new to the community, first post and loving it!9 -
I use different variations of the same password. Everywhere.
It's worked out good so far but I can see it all crashing down on me at some point.8 -
The most emotional moment was after seeing that "Hello, world!" printed out on the screen for the first time. That was the point where I felt like "yup, this is gonna be my life from now on"
-
That guy who gets fingerprints on my monitor screen. Argh! Can't you just *point* like a normal person?2
-
It's very satisfying to setup Pi-Hole on a vps, point your dns to it, adding the words Facebook and Google to the wildcard blacklist and seeing that literally any request containing either one of those words gets blocked.
On the other hand, it's funny to see that devRant (devrantron) performs around 1k+ requests to devRant every 15 minutes.19 -
somebody should have made a system restore point on the universe before Trump was nominated so we can go back once people realize what a bad idea this was4
-
Hate to admit it but: I went back to Windows on my dev machine after running Linux as main OS for like 10 years. I came to the point where I'm tired of driver problems and broken bootloaders and just want things to work...37

Being majestic as a web developer:
1. Hacking through the DevTools to remove the anti-AdBlocker overlay + vertical scrolling paralysis on news website
2. See point 115 -
Simplicity is a prerequisite for reliability.
I put those words on the wall in giant vinyl letters, and I point to them every time someone asks me "can you add a frontend button which checks this external API and stores the correlation between the amount of rain and the sales numbers of purple buttplugs inside the user profiles?"
People always ask for one more column in a table, one more paragraph under an image — they never ask for replacement or removal of items.
So I force them. Want a feature? Fine, if you point at something of equal or greater complexity to delete.2 -
Saw this on the interwebs. Left: customer. Right: employee.
The left one looks like a nice type of customer-person though.
I like to imagine that the employee-guy does not understand why the computer is not working, at which point the customer-person says: "Oh, I can fix that."5 -
Redid my portfolio site again. Feel like I could make a portfolio site of portfolio sites at this point. On the plus side, I guess I’m learning new things each time?30

Went to a small place for lunch, they had a TV that I think was playing sports earlier, but at some point it switched to a YouTube Playlist and started playing a Javascript tutorial on geo-location haha
-
Last year at work we started migrating our backend from PHP on a dedicated server to Node.js on AWS lamda functions
We went from 10 second calls to 70ms calls...
At this point our frontend is not even ready for this kind of speed 😅9 -
Why would someone do this to his/her laptop????
There is a point after which this "stickers on a laptop" thing starts looking like shit, and in this case the point is long gone. Also at this point most of the stickers start to lose meaning.13 -
Raspberry pi worked perfectly fine. Reinstalled the sd card for some reason (on purpose) and now, no matter what system I flash, it always crashes at stone point. That point is random every fucking time.
I just want this fucker to work 😥18 -
Almond: Look at these stats - our signup process sucks! We really need to make it better.
Boss: Yeah, maybe at some point. It doesn't affect live running though. Leave it for now.
<1 month later...>
Almond: These stats are getting worse. I really think we should redesign this to do x, y and z and avoid a, b and c.
Boss: Yeah, we probably should do at some point, but there's no rush. You can work on it if you really want to, but only if there's nothing else going on.
<2 months later...>
Boss: I'VE JUST SPOKEN TO TWO POTENTIAL CLIENTS, BUT OUR SIGNUP PROCESS SUCKS SO THEY'RE GOING ELSEWHERE! WE NEED THIS FIXED NOW!! WHERE ARE YOU ON THIS? CAN WE GET IT DONE AND DEPLOYED BY FRIDAY?!?!3 -
I've discovered now that on VS Code when you point over a CSS class it shows you an example of the element it reffer to. 😲
I don't know if it's something new or if it's already present in other editors, but I found it now and I love it!5 -
Can we just stop hating on some programming languages? What's the point? All languages have their pros and cons. Deal with it.20

Oh JavaScript... can you seriously not even increment the exponent of a float without barfing?

Dear coworker, please stop using the fucking reply all button to just send a winky face to everyone on the mailing list. I am almost to the point of just filtering all your mail to the trash because you hardly send anything relevant anyway.2

Professor: You may use all the offline material on your computer while taking the exam
Me: Downloads 50 stack overflow and tutorials point pages as PDF just in case I get an error I can't solve or forget basic syntax
At least we don't have to do it on paper...
I hate the thought of getting stuck on something that would require 5 seconds of Googling to solve during an exam :/10 -
I was watching Ryan's talk on YouTube about "10 mistakes he regrets in Node " then on a point about node_modules he pulls this one up 😂4

I visit my mom once a year, and usually perform preventative maintenance on her computer. Scrubbing it for viruses, applying updates for drivers, etc. On one such occasion in the early days, she complained that the PC was slow, and would quit. I opened it up, and there was a 1/4 inch layer of dust everywhere, and any and all vents were completely blocked, to the point that fans weren't turning. I blew that crap out, and from that point on became her IT guy.

Today I continued working on my File Encryption Frontend, nothing functional, yet!
The icons are selfmade, I think at least the folder icon is pretty.
Our programm will have something like a Zip-Explorer feeling too it, but our aim is still encrypting files to the unbreakable point.27 -
Has anyone ever taken on a project where you dont know what you are getting yourself into, and then start it and going down the rabbit hole of docs and then at some point ask yourself "what the f u c k am i doing?"8

"Wow, chatgpt is so amazing! I could make a pong game game in 10 minutes!". Yeah, and I could find one on github and clone it in 5, what's your point?3

31 hours
I was on a hackathon, we got time between Saturday 10AM until Sunday 5PM.
Most people went to sleep at some point, i literally used all the time i got and could submit a finished and playable game.
I felt drunk and incredibly dizzy at the end3 -
So today I arrived on Ireland to hike for three weeks. Tomorrow I'm heading out together with one single other scout to walk 160 km from point A to point B, both of which are unknown until the minute we start. I'm not quite sure how much internet coverage I'll have, so perhaps there won't be so much ranting, commenting and ++'ing. Sad to leave for almost a month with just a couple of hundred ++'s left to reach the magic 5 digit score. Well, anyways. Unless I appear earlier, have a nice few weeks!5

Not at the hate point yet, but Apple's hardware division has been missing the mark for about 5-6 years now.
The phones have been too big for my hands since the 5 came out, and the latest lineup doesn't even have a compromise in that size.
The keyboards that replaced the chiclet keyboards suck because they provide almost no tactile feedback whatsoever.
Ditching the magsafe adaptors to force you to dedicate one of your USB ports to powering your machine is stupid.
Still doing fine on the software front overall, however. Granted, they've been dismantling everything I ever liked about iTunes since version 8 came out, but I've given up on that at this point.1 -
Hey if you make an app that specifically depends on gnome and has 2 gigs of dependencies on other platforms
fuck you fuck your ancestors fuck your entire extended family fuck everything you have, do and will ever stand for, i hope you contract ever imaginable diseases to the point where existence itself pains you.6 -
I would draw furries.
Don't get me wrong, I would not enjoy it. But at this point I'm dependant on the cashflow, and that's the only other thing I know that pays well...9 -
My computer is so out of date at this point, I measure compile time by the amount of times I can spin around on my chair, I'm at 48, if I get to 50 I think something magic might happen.2

What's the point in having a relaxation/fun/chill zone/room in your company when you never have the time to use it except maybe on your lunch break? 🤔🤔3
-
A friend of mine had a MacBook. She had a DSLR too and she used some software on her mac to transfer the files on it.
At one point she ran out of space and thought that it's a good idea to uninstall that software as a temporary solution. The software took all her childhood pictures with it.4 -
tfw...
• the new "sr dev" asks what the point of TDD is
• being polite, I answer in an ELI5 format
• rest of the room nods head in agreement
• new "sr dev" still has baffled look on face -
When you point out a bug for the first time on a popular library and your issue has been reopened with apologies and given the bug tag.
Feel like a boss after struggling with the problem for 14 days haha1 -
I don't get the point of spamming a link...
Let's get on a long journey with Android Studio by my side (or not if I read these rants)...
Edit: Compression fucks it up... you can still see it's the same link being spammed.1 -
When you emphatically explain the code you've been working on non-stop for the past week, only to have the boss hit you with that "but what's the point?"
And your heart fucking breaks3 -
Hold on, people actually finish side projects? Personal side projects? Am I the only developer who procrastinated side projects to the point that I forget about them?3
-
I really do wonder at what point the previous developer on this project thought 800 line functions are totally reasonable and standard practice...7

I'm working from here @ShereHills mountain top. Got my mac and testing device on point, I don't think the virus can come this high.3

Working on Saturdays is a lot like working on mondays. Oh, and Tuesdays and Wed... You get the point.

Have you ever taken on so much work to the point where you just start tearing up because you want to sleep?2

daily.
PM/PO/SM/dev(new!): so i've continued working on feature X, i did this and that (shows screenshot of UI in Jira) and for today i'm planning to do XYZ. anyquestionsnothennextoneplease.
me: sorry, i have a question. did you persist your changes in our repo?
PM: no, not yet.
me: okay, please do this, you've spent several days of work on this. i mean, it's fine if build servers don't build it yet, that's what our feature branches are for.
PM: you're absolutely right, and i will definitely do it at some point.
me: at some point?
PM: yes. dev x, your update please.9 -
The student assistant gave me a half point penalty for writing down to much comments! Direct translation:
To much of this kind of comments is not needed, the code itself is clear on its own.12 -
Some kid keeps asking me how to session hijack. I keep telling him there's no point if:
A. You're not on the same network as him / her (I'm sure there are exceptions to this but normally you'd have to be on the same network)
B. The connection is encrypted
He doesn't understand either of those things. Not to mention it's illegal unless you're given consent.7 -
I love when @GodHatesMe comments on a rant and people start replying.
I read their name + comment as a single sentence.
@GodHatesMe Because tabs are better, obviously! (fake example)
It literally changes every point people try to make.2 -
I just found something cool on accident.
Assuming you start the fibonacci sequence on 2, you can find any of the fibonacci numbers for a given index with a simple trick:
Let Phi = 1.618
Let your index n = n+1
Floor(phi**(n+1+0.328))+1 = the fibonacci number at index n in the sequence.
This probably breaks down past some point but its nifty.21 -
It's just after midnight.
I have a heavy workload starting tomorrow.
Going to require lots of time away frm my wife and son.
They're all in bed, but I am awake.
My only dilemma at this point:
Work on my side project?
Or play Command And Conquer?2 -
Apparently I have to teach what I know of Linux to my coworkers to reduce the bus factor on the server management role. ( already ranted about it )
What I want to do is create a single slide power point with "google.com" on it.
😂3 -
Almost gave up on my first LFS build but I re-read the first 5 chapters and used my backed up toolchain to continue chapter 6. Luckily, I have passed the point I was stuck at :) glad I didnt give up or start 100% over.3

"I don't see the point of writing tests on this project. It's just a waste of time. "
3 months later:
"I don't know what's broken and every time I change something I don't know what it could possibly break?"

I'm a junior dev, been on placement a year.
I get tasks done mostly on time, my pull requests are merged, yet I still feel like what I'm writing is seriously under quality.
What point will I stop writing code that isn't good enough to not be stressed about? 😷7 -
aaAAaaAaaAaaAaAAAAAaAaaa floating points!
I debugged my algorithm for quite a while, wondering why it sometimes gives out "Circle(Point({1.7976931348623157E308,1.7976931348623157E308}),1.7976931348623157E308)" as the smallest circle around a group of points.
Figured out that it sometimes just never found any circle defined by two or three of the points which included all points (which is mathematically impossible).
Then finally I made it print out the points it thought were not inside the circle:
"1,7,8: Circle(Point({0.6636411126185259,0.535709780023259}),0.4985310690982777)
skip, 1 not inside"
So it defined the circle with 1 being on the edge, but then thought 1 was outside. Thank you, floating point Math.
For anyone wondering about the notation: That way I can directly copy/paste it into Geogebra to have a visualisation.7 -
Been working at a new job for two months and had a code review on the latest project.
My senior asked me why I had used interfaces because he dosent see the point in them and that they aren't useful. #facepalm3 -

When your Boss openly refers to projects as Micro-sites to the client, devaluing the scope of work, and being completely unaware of the actual scope of work, which is essentially a twitch platform, to be built on wordpress, with integration to Power Point Dock, and a live chat queue5

Sometimes when I comment on a public post, some people start replying by typing paragraphs after paragraphs just to counter my point. I wait for some time and then... I delete my comment.4

I was setting up a small home server running CentOS to my closet and was fighting with a USB Wifi adapter that wouldn't stay "awake". Googled the error messages and nothing...
Decided to about it on the CentOS forums and mentioned (MENTIONED, WASNT THE POINT) CWP (CentOS WebPanel) in my question, an admin came, COMMENTED A LINK TO A FORUM POST THAT TOLD "CWP IS NO WAY LINKED TO CENTOS" AND CLOSED THE QUESTION!
FUUUCKKKKK, i wanted to hit something sooo hard. The admin basically turned my point from A to X.4 -
Webdeveloper:
"I want that http://somedomain/something should point to your environment but http://somedomain should still be hosted on one.com."
This is why I do not trust "webdevelopers".1 -
My boss is cheap so:
- My machine randomly crashing
- Internet disconnecting
On another note:
- Clients calling every 5 minutes instead of putting together a list and coming back when they have more than one point at a time -
So my IT teacher wrote his own web server framework for NodeJS and he forces us to use it for assignments. Would be fine if:
1. It worked properly.
2. It had any kind of documentation.
3. He knew how it worked.
But no, we have to debug his shit and edit the js files in node_modules to get shit working.
Is he open to suggestions? Not really. If you have a fix, you have to create a gitlab account and send a pr. Even if you tell him what exactly is wrong. He won't do anything about it.
Why use express when we can learn something we'll never use again?
At this point I think we're using it only so that he gets downloads on npm.
Oh ya, he also copies package.json from project to project instead of creating a new one with up to date dependencies.
🙃2 -
Can we all just agree to stop actively imagining progressively harder to parse CSV formatting options? For fucks sake I’ve had to build in tolerance for quoted and unquoted data, combined data and split data, ways to split the data and recombine it, compare every data point, filter some data, only add data, only remove data, base data updates on non Boolean fields in the file, set end point matching based on arbitrary fields, column number matching, header matching, manipulate malformed urls and reassemble the file with proper ones, it goes the fuck on. CSV’s should just be simple and not hard to format. Why does everyone want to try so fucking hard to do bizarro shit?!

When I have to apply a strong coat of

open source codebase, what's the
point of being open.
No but really, the
WORKS ON MY BRAIN

Realised I never post on devrant. Maybe I should. Todays tame rant
Never trust intune when it says a group policy has been successfully applied and had to use powershell instead. What is the point of you settings catalog if you lie to my face.
Gaslighting buggy Crap making me look bad.
Have you disabled autoplay yes on these devices.
Looks at fully synced device dafuq7 -
Being on vacation and getting calls from the office.. The whole point of vacation is getting away from everything for a little while to recharge.
That's fine, I'm billing that time.. just wish they could figure some of this shit out on their own. -
So excited about this beast... wish I had a model f... but this will suffice for now.. definitely going to start collecting older stuff. As an embedded software engineer working on AI projects and such give you a good reference point of what was possible in the day with less13

I think it is so sad you can't use your devRant icon on other sites. I know you could download them but the whole point is anonymous ranting so if someone know your picture they know who you are. I love the devRant icons <33

10 minutes in and I’m in love... my 8 year old windows laptop which was at this point so agonizingly slow it was barely usable, is now lightning fast

I have heard that StarTech's customer service is on point... But this is something refreshing and a very surprising beginning of my birthday!1

How the fuck do you do port forwarding on your Rasberry Pi without having to hack the NASA or subscribe to some obscure websites??? God fucking damn useless websites that can't agree on a fucking point8

What's the point of using the tracking then?
Or why don't you just show me the 3 weeks date as estimated arrival date instead of the wrong date showing on the tracking report currently?
Adding 7 days is fuck simple.
Why give wrong reports and false hope?4 -
I have fuckloads to finish... deadlines due to last week... and im so screwed to a point that I cant work on anything. It's pointless.3

I am constantly typing "ls" on CMD to a point it has become quite annoying. I'm so used to my Ubuntu.6

One of the largest companies on the continent. Uses Oracle on AWS RDS with the beefiest resources available. It comes to the point where lowering the number of CPUs boosts the DB performance up (concurrency). Point is - Oracle is sweating hard during our tests. You can almost feel the smell of those hot ICs on AWS servers.
And then someone at higher levels, while sitting on a pooper, has a great idea: "I know! Let's migrate to Aurora! They say it's so much faster than anything there is!"
*migration starts*
Tests after migration: the database on the largest instance possible shits itself at 10% of the previous load: the CPU% is maxed out (sy:60%,us:40%), IO is far, far from hitting the limits.
Is it really possible Aurora will cope with the load better than Oracle? Frankly, I haven't seen any database perform better than Oracle yet. Not sure if it's worth to invest time in this adventure..2 -
Delivered a website to a client, pagespeed results 99 on both mobile and desktop (just 1 minus point for implementing Google analytics- since it has a too low caching time). Client insists on having a 100 pagespeed result even it doesn't change real pagespeed ... -.-2

You know that point when your pc is just not capable enough? And you are on holidays with so many ideas that you want to code up?
I'm there.
Never thought being a broke student would be this bad.13 -
Have you ever played Zelda: Breath of The Wild?
Have you seen this system where you set a point on the map, and see a colum of light going up from this point with the Sheikah tablet?
Man I'd love to do that in an augmented reality system on a smartphone 😍5 -
Just stumbled on this little gem.
Apple's logic: 1+2+3 = 23
At this point I think Apple has just given up on quality. They are all about aesthetics nowadays.

When I was in high school, I was learning to code on my own. I showed my python code that I was really proud of to the girl I liked. she didn't understand what it is, she thinks its weird, she thinks I'm weird.
She has a point.3 -

I don't know what's wrong with me..
Within one day I basically lost interest in everything I do. I just don't see the point of all this anymore.
And the bad thing is, that I don't even know where that comes from so suddenly, everything is going fine, but still.. Life just feels like pain at the moment.
Don't want do drag down someone else with me and I sincerely apologise if it's too late to mention it at this point, just hope that maybe someone here can understand what's going on or give me some advice on how to fix my situation.7 -
I just encountered a website whos ad block game is on-point. Your typical Ad overlay, that can be removed with developer options PLUS disabling scrolling.
Too bad, they disabled it only horizontally and forgot about diagonal scrolling1 -
Two friends of mine (one of which actually introduced me to devRant) refuse to post on here.
...there's no need to explain that I want them to enjoy devRant (at it's full potential) with me but they don't see a point in writing.
Would you be so kind and give them some motivation/reasons in the comments? What's the point of dev-ranting?9 -
I upgraded eclipse with devStyle. The next time I started eclipse a quote showed up. I'll post it here 'cause I think it's totally true:
"Experience is the name everyone gives their mistakes".
It's so freakin' on point...1 -
Look at this amazing chaos game fractal.
Three vertices of an equilateral triangle and a random point p between any two vertices are taken, then we generate a random integer between 1 and 6 (just like throwing a dice) .if 2 or 4 comes on the dice we draw a point between the random point p and the vertex v1.similarly if 3 or 4 comes on dice , we draw a point between the previously drawn point and vertex v2.for 5 or 6 the vertex is v3.after a few iterations we get to see this amazing pattern30 -
i don’t know what docker is and at this point im too afraid to ask.
i read an explainer on it every few months. i’ve used it a couple times. still don’t know what it does.
“it’s a container!” okay.. so is my tupperware. it has beans in it. what’s your point.12 -
Isn't the point of the 20++ receive stickers idea supposed to be an incentive for posting good content?
I've only joined recently and maybe I've missed the point, but I feel like surely people asking for it are just doing it for the stickers, they're not actually contributing to the content here?
Maybe I'm wrong but that's just the vibe I get?
On another note, screw logs (screw me more like). Spent 2 hours completely missing what the error message was trying to tell me and debugging in places I didn't even need to touch.3 -
I'm actually getting so fucked off with having to travel to work to the point that I an on the brink of rage quitting and only taking something where it is agreed to and understood about me working from home, no questions asked!14

I don't get government spending on education programs for coding. What's the point? Affirmative action?4

What's so damn hard about a simple change log when you update your app? Or at least point me to somewhere where I can see that. Ugh. Come on.6

I have reached a point in my life where exams are the least source of stress possible on this planet.

One little question!
If you build a website, is it necessary to make it also work on IE?
Not so many are using it and i don't see the point. Idk8 -

The person who invented powerpoint and those who use it/love it should be skinned alive.
FUCKING SHIT OF A PRODUCT.
On the other side, instead of torturing someone to death, force them to use Power point for 2 hours a day and that will be enough for the person to beg you to kill them.
Join me in this journey against power point.20 -
I think somewhere i read a quote from Gary Kasparov on his view on Chess.
He said that after certain point of mastering it, it becomes too much mental pain.
I think the same can be said about programming.

What's the point of buying a macbook if it's going to retire after few years due to macOS compatibility with apps from appstore when you can get a good brand laptop and run linux on it forever?12

I usually just block every possible entry point of errors instead of handling them directly with try-catch or on-error callbacks. Is that a good practice?
In case you ask, yes, i am that lazy.3 -
Do you just click the mouse wheel to close a tab even though it's a pain on your finger? I don't know where I got this habit from. I'm too lazy to point the cursor to the X button.6

I never thought I'd reach a point where I use High Contrast theme for development O_O
Was always a user of dark theme, but now VS Code is on High Contrast and it is comfortable af but ugly af also :\6 -
It's a process for me, I can get unstuck at any point in it.
1. skip song on pandora

4. rewrite the damn thing -
Add wifi they said..
It'll be a simple addition that adds a ton more usability they said...
Now just tack on access point mode, everything is already there.. that'll be quick and easy they said..
..... no, no, it's not... It's a fucking pain in the ass dammit!! -
What is the point of working on a team in an open work environment if the only interaction I have with them is during our twice-weekly stand up?

OK trust me, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO. NOT. TRY TO DO ANYTHING ON A COMPUTER WHEN YOU HAVE SMALLER SIBLINGS, my baby brother has broken my PC monitor, my laptop screen, my phone, and hell, I'm desperate to the point of jailbreaking my Nintendo switch, witch he almost broke already, I'm typing this on my school laptop BTW.9

I feel like a "confess your sins" weekly rant would be on point.
Doesn't even have to be coding sins.3 -
I don't understand why people drive with high beam on, even when it's not needed!
Is it only in India or anywhere else too?
Literally, I'm so frustrated with this shit.

Firefox doesn't map correctly the controller (Xbox One) but it works on Chrome. (FF on Android Works)
This is literally the first time (for me) that something works on Chrome and not on FF. (at first shot)
usually it is the opposite.
One point for Chrome (this time)
but still 6,022*10²³ Points for FF.3 -
Honestly, who could have thought at some point of his life that having all the business logic on the database with 20k stored procedures was a good idea?9

For chrissakes, the Stackasses on Stack Overflow have, in their typical fashion, downvoted my question instead of attempting to answer it.
I seriously need help with coding a PyQt5 wizard I made in Qt Designer. I’m so sick of fucking around with these idiots.
Can someone point me somewhere PRODUCTIVE where I might get some help? Looking at Experts Exchange and wondering if they have the necessary expertise. Getting to the point where I’m actually thinking of shelling out money. But I’d much rather just find a good online community or something.
TIA15 -
Never stop learning, and don't get frustrated when you can't keep up at times. Technology is changing faster than most people can learn. The point is to keep on learning. Those who stop learning are well equipped for yesterday, so the saying goes.

Putting aside my ordinary moral horror for a moment I'd like to comment on rust.

When your frontend does not really get what your backend is trying to say...
This is oalley.net. Apart from the fact that their frontend and backend do not work together very well, it is a nice tool to mark reachable areas on a map based on the starting point, the means of transportation and the maximum time.5 -

The evolving of software engineering is highly dependent on hardware engineering.
If only software engineering would evolve then there would eventually be a point where theres nothing more to do due to the lack of hardware to develop software for.
So its more a question of how you see hardware engineering evolving.
I expect that there will be a point in the future where we have techology which in big scale does dangerous or time consuming tasks. Like for example at nuclear reactors or at other high level security and high risk locations. This of course requires highly sofisticated ai software. -
Guys, I have something to say. I've used Arch Linux since probably a couple months after I started using Linux. But today, I'm going to install Fedora on my PC. It's my gaming rig at this point (that really needs some upgrades), and it seems like Steam breaks on Arch every week.
With that system, at this point I want something I can just install, do some tweaking, and go.
Anyone have any other distro suggestions for a gaming rig?7 -
Fuck ATT, Fuck their company, Fuck their router, Fuck everything they stand for. I just spent 3 hours trying to solve an issue with their fucking router and my bonded nic setup on my home server. I still don't have it completely setup correctly. I just want to murder them at this point. I really need to build my own fucking router at this point. It would end up being so much easier.2

What's the fucking point!?
CommandTimeout is an int, not a TimeSpan.

What's the point of doing estimates per quarter if you are gonna change the estimates to projects that are being worked on to match the release date?
Also doing estimates per quarter before doing investigations on the requirements is a fucking shit way to do estimates. Arguably doing it per quarter is also trash.
We are not doing hardware design for fuck sake, we work on software, you bunch of retards.4 -

For the room closeness part of my algorithm I changed it to check against a point on the edge of the room. I determined this point by doing a vector intersect with the room geometry. The vector is determined by center to center of the rooms. Not the closest point on the outside of the rooms to each prospective room, but close enough. That is what I am drawing with yellow dots.
I can use these points to approximate door positions and corridor placement. This is for completely random rooms and corridors. However, for predefined rooms with strict entry points I will have to figure out how to connect those doors to other random rooms. Or I just predefine door locations for all rooms.
I dunno the best way at this point. Doing pure random has benefits. Doing predefined rooms has benefits as well. Will probably hack together a mixture of the two.5 -

On top of that, management compares the performance of two *different* scrum teams based on the story points they finish in a sprint. :// -

1. Set to highest resolution
2. Turn on RAWs

4. Use Photoshop/Lightroom to make corrections and make it look like how you "remembered" it (aka lie) -

The first would be playing some Pac-Man on a bootleg ZX Spectrum that my uncle made (allegedly, he made more than one and sold them).
Outside of games, had a Win95 PC at some point. I don't remember much as that was something around 20 years ago. -
My first exposure to computers was in 4th grade (18 years ago!) when we started having "computer classes". Most lectures they would simply ask us to sit and play games on the computers. My favorite was a game called Dangerous Dave, because I had played nothing better till that point :D

I have configured on my local desktop a pi.hole and Stubby. They were working fine and happy together, but after a comment from @FrodoSwaggins about local DNS server, I trying to add Unbound as well.
So, on my configuration, pi.hole points to unbound, which points to Stubby. Everything local, each one with their own ip@port listener, but it does not work.
If I point Unbount to an external DNS (Quad9, for exemple), it works. If I point pi.hole to Stubby, it works. But the 3 of them does not work.
Does anyone has any idea what could be happening?
Thanks!6 -

Adding more random half-started projects to my hard drive.
I would put them on github but then I'd have WAY too many reps that don't function and I'd feel like I'm wasting storage on github.
At some point I need to get motivation to work on some of these6 -
Remove it completly. There is no point in forcing it on children, governments are too slow to deliver a proper education plan that is not horrible outdated and proper coding teachers are non-existant.
Instead they shoul focus on STEM and provide computer clubs that are not based around grades and education plans.1 -
It's been a while since I ranted but goddamn people really need to work on fucking communication. Jesus Christ. Make it to the point and think about your listener's POV. What do you call a function based on (w*x) / (y*z)

So I thought I had a basic, high level understanding of C++ STL strings, pointers, copy constructors and stuff. In comes a dirname, a -D_GLIBCXX_USE_CXX11_ABI=0 and... Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
So what is happening? I copy a string expecting a deep copy, but then I do the dirname or manipulation on the copy and it messes up *both* strings. gcc/C++ I know you're a beast, but what's going on there? Thing is only possible if I cast away const from c_str - which of course is a doubtful operation - but there also seems to be some strange copy on write logic that the data pointers initially point to same memory location and only with first manipulation on the copy they start to point to different addresses.
I had no clue. And still don't have.4 -
Thoughts on SQL operations studio? Anyone used it yet, personally I liked it, could see myself using it for work at some point once the kinks get fixed.2

Is Cmake really worthwhile ? Like, I see the point of autotools, and it seems pretty worthwhile, but why make something you have to hand configure from the looks of it with a vast array of tags you'll use maybe once per project ?
Is there a frontend maybe for it ? I mean I know the concept they state but it hasn't seemed to work very well the last number of projects I tried to build using it, on windows. On linux everything works LOL But if the point is cross platform building whats the deal ?10 -
Face it.
Most of the time, in PHP, you're just using Contracts to be cool.
Unless you're coding something like a framework, I don't see the point.
Or I guess, if you're hiring someone to take on your project... but even then, that person might feel restricted for no reason?7 -

actually it wasn't mine. But it affected me. So we had a project website on wordpress and wanted to rewrite the theme. everything went well to the Point of production. Site is fine locally, at testing and on stage. On production we still see old, a bit broken old version, but only on homepage. Wtf. Nothing helped. After couple of hours later we found out, that the admin was updating php version and he left html shot at production, which was taking over.

So I want to make sure I’m not an idiot
I’ve tried several strategies to localized image segmentation
The first was locating a data pixel and expanding a bounding box around mall pixels close enough to be part of a shape
The next was pushing pixels outward to find connected edges until all edges has a point plotted for them forming a mesh it selected a point and moved in all 8 directions looking for the next edge Skipping directions another point was on
The last that I’m working on draws out all the data pixels into a 2d dictionary and then finds all line segments in six directions and then goes back through and links them and all segments previously linked to all newly linked segments first arranging them into panels of larger pixel groups to minimize iterations
Am I overthinking this ?8 -

Why do we still use floating-point numbers? Why not use fixed-point?
Floating-point has precision errors, and for some reason each language has a different level of error, despite all running on the same processor.
Fixed-point numbers don't have precision issues (unless you get way too big, but then you have another problem), and while they might be a bit slower, I don't think there is enough of a difference in speed to justify the (imho) stupid, continued use of floating-point numbers.
Did you know some (low power) processors don't have a floating-point processor? That effectively makes it pointless to use floating-point, it offers no advantage over fixed-point.
Please, use a type like Decimal, or suggest that your language of choice adds support for it, if it doesn't yet.
There's no need to suffer from floating-point accuracy issues.26 -

How different should two different technologies be to consider putting both on your resume?
Like is it okay to put both CSS and Sass (https://sass-lang.com/dart-sass) or are they too similar to reasonably do so, what about javascript and 'Google App Script'
How do you determine if it's worth being on your resume orif you should only have the more known one on the resume unless the job requirements advertise the other?
And at what point do you 'know' enough to put it on your resume if i should? At what point can I say I 'know' sass or google script enough to advertise myself with it?1 -

Setting up dockerfile with ENV(from Visual Studio) was such a stressful endeavour from the point of view of someone that doesn't work daily with containers that I'm wondering how you master folks of net core and docket live and breath.
The gotcha was to put the ENVs at the first FROM from which the running environment was going to execute the WebAPI and not later on where there is the ENTRYPOINT point -

If the only good point I can present on your program is that it isn't terrible, then maybe you should be spending more time working on it.

I've seen an old Causeway Extender unpacker floating around, at some point being on EXETOOLS before they went forum-only, by the name "CauseWay DOS Extender Unpacker v0.17" or "unpcwc.zip". Is there a copy of this still around or will I have to make my own based on the released Causeway source code?

Is there an eloquent way to say you sped up your UI rendering by X percent with projections and sessionStorage? Or is this not a kind of point you'd want to hit on a resume?3
