Happened just now:
Client: Please remove this page from the site ASAP, and tell me when its done.
Me: Done
Client: what's wrong am getting an error code(404) when I click on the link.
Am not sure how to reply to that13 -
Me and my team in middle of our first hackathon-
a girl who is our class topper is my team mate, trying to write some Android Code.
I am writing nodejs Api, she calls me saying there's a bug in my code,so for saving time I decided to fix that small thing on her laptop,so when I went to the backend folder to open the js file,I see no default text editor set for it. After searching,I found out she had no atom, sublime,vs etc.
I asked her - "Do you even have notepad++ ?".
She - "I have notepad,but not ++".
That day I had to edit my code in Wordpad. I am still shaking.12 -
Any devs here that Code in C/C++...?
Or am I lost in "webRant".
I am worried about the future " code everything in javascript " generation :)
Make pointers great again!75 -
On Friday I deployed to a life site without going through code review or any testing whatsoever. I am now known around the office as 'Billy the Kid'.6
-
I'm here, wide awake at 4:30 am... Not because my brain is stuck on a problem, but because I am so happy with the code I wrote that I'm too excited to fall asleep.7
-
I am the only guy who pauses to look at the code in every hacking/coding scene either in a movie or series? Coz that shit is sometimes hilarious9

Things I'm half decent at: Writing code
Things I am absolutely the worst at: Managing projects
Things I got employed for: Writing code
Things I do: Managing projects18 -
It finally happened. Upper management is demanding a historical (7+ years) of lines-of-code analysis of our entire code base. They want to justify our positions by validating that the lines-of-code has increased in accordance with the economy. I am not kidding. For every year, they expect some percent increase in our lines of code.17

I am working on another developer's PHP code, and I found a new way that he done the redirect after the login with PHP!30

Debugging someone else's code and having the thought: "Am I better off just writing the code again from the start?!"6
-
I have decided to never write commits.
I will never write documentation.
I will write my code in the most confusing way possible.
I will include useless code.
I will always git commit with the message "asdfghjkl" or "HAHA LOLZ I DONT NOW WAT I WOROTEEE"
I will work at Apple.
I am xenophobic.
I will leave the company right before we push to production.
I will make so many friends.11 -
This guy next to me in the train is coding C#... but his codestyle looks like... no words... I am now reading Clean Code!
I hope he will notice!😂8 -
Mastering git has become the best thing ever. I feel like a real code monkey. Swinging from branch to branch. Eating all the bug-eeee eeee ahhhhh oooh aaaaaaAAHHHHHH!2
-
I code through the night until 8 am, then sleep until 6pm+.
My family then calls me out as being unproductive and lazy.
Why must the whole world be oriented against night owls like me? 😥15 -
"Programmers are persons that convert caffeine into code". Every time i see this quote, i ask myself: Am i the only one? (non-coffee drinking programmer)30
-
I am a hobby programmer. I just got rejected by the biggest crush of my life. I guess I'm stuck with my stupid wothless fucking life writing code. How fucking exciting....22
-
You might call me an insomniac, but I am definitely a night owl. Night cat sounds more exciting. Time for another exciting night in the Land of Code! Meow, meow12

Seen in code:
public String getX(){
if (x != null){
return x;
}
else return null;
}
... I'm not gonna like looking at the rest of this, am I?11 -
Developers coding cycle:
Start of Project - "Right, I am going to make this code clean and structured."
Deadline looming - "F**k it, just throw the code in there and get it finished".2 -
I need more dev friends... currently drinking a beer alone. Not that I am alone but I am unable to engage in normal conversation at the moment. Just finished a 7 hour coding binge where I developed a solution which I am very proud of and which results in weeks of development time saved for the company which results in more time for proper refactorimg and Magic tournaments. I just want to sit down with a friend, show my code, ask for improvements and reason the chosen solution. And drink beer.39
-
Dev from other team asked me for a code I had previously written. I emailed it.
Dev: Thanks, I received it but am not able to open the .py file
Me: Try using Microsoft Word.12 -
Why the hell am I 200% more productive at 2 am? Makes literally no sense. I JUST WANT TO CODE LIKE THIS IN THE MORNINGS17
-
Just found this precious gem in the legacy code I am maintaining! How do you check if a string is empty :-D ?5
-
Going through git commit history to figure out when *the programmer fucked up this code.
* I am the only programmer.5 -
Friend: Hey can you check my code, can't seen to find this one error, and i have been trying for hours now.
Me: Just one error?
Friend: Ya, just one. And it i am not in a hurry, check it whenever you can.
Me: *understanding the pain of not finding that one fucking error*
Cool, just send me the code i ll check it tonight.
Later that night i check the code, debugg that error, shit ton of more error pop up.
Me: Well i have solved the one error, now i can just hand over the rest of the code to the guy so he can take care of the rest, its not like i am responsible or aything. HOWEVER, maybe i can solve few more, just for fun, i can't just let this code get the better of me.
*ends up clearing all the error after a lomg night*4 -
When the code is not working:
I have failed my parents, my job and everyone. I shouldn't have taken Software Engineering as my profession. All I'm doing is giving pain and frustration to everyone. *thinks about a clean way of suicide*
Then after a while the code works:
I am probably the best engineer to live on these planet.3 -
I see this is true.
I am learning software development I understand what the code does but the most difficult part is to think and think and think what code to implement and how you're going to code it to make the program work.6 -
I am officially a retard.
I was DOing hard refresh multiple time and making changes on the code.
nothing seems to happen.
after quite a while, I realized I was refreshing the deployed site and not the local one.
kill me.9 -
Am I the only here who get so much PUSSY when encountering bugs in code?
P - panic attacks
U - uncontrollable anxiety
S - suicidal fantasies
S - sadness
Y - yearning to death12 -
And it is official: I am not a project manager anymore.
My Boss has just created a new Automation department of which I am the only employee. So, now, I am an Automation Engineer.
More tools, maybe code and almost no contact with clients anymore. But I am gong to miss a few of them. :)2 -
Really pissed me off when I tell someone that I am teaching myself how to code and they're like.. "Don't you have to go to school for that?"
YES.. I wish I could go to school but I am broke, have no family support, and got no credits for a loan. But at least I am seeking out other resources! The mentality of some people I swear!!11 -
I am really going nuts about everyone using ChatGPT. Had literally discussions 'bUt cHaTgPt sAyS iTs TrUe', when the docs said clearly thats not the case.
Also the "code" produced is just what the hell?!
I hope this damn hype will end soon12 -
OH MY GOSH SHUT THE CRAP UP. I AM NOT INTERESTED. I DON'T EVEN CODE JAVA.
I'm a JavaScript developer. And I don't respond to this spam. Ugh!!!!!14 -
I am an idiot. I wrote some 100+ lines of code months ago and I took another look today and it seems like it could've done the same thing in 3. Fuckity fuck fuck.8
-
Being a sysadmin, I never write any code.
But I do want to learn that.
What is the easiest language to learn?
(I am lazy)53 -
I just found this code snippet on Stackoverflow that decodes polylines from Google Maps.
I even doubt the genius who wrote it understands what it does.
Anyway,as long as it works am good.4 -
I am pretty sure when people say
"AI will be able to write code and create apps from scratch in the future"
have never actually sat in a client's requirements gathering call.16 -
When I started learning to code I couldn't wait to become a 'senior dev' thinking I would spend all my time writing awesome code.
Now that I am a 'senior dev' and have the experience I now spend 90% of my time documenting & planning and even less time coding :'(9 -
The code im writing is so ugly that i am tempted to pay for github pro, just so i can hide it from society :D
I never thought that not coding for six months could do this much damage9 -
I am like the weakest programmer at my job. I wanna improve and get better. Understanding how to write good unit test to reading code. Damn it. I just wanna be better.9
-
When a co-worker requested changes on a PR giving the reason "I am a fan of'".
No because it will optimize the application, or make the code more maintainable. He's just a fan. Like I went to work to look for fans.2 -
Sometimes when i code i feel unstoppable ,those are the days that i am very productive, then there are days that i feel like an idiot and i cant code a single line6
-
I've been fired today and somehow it was an relief :)
As I know that I am pretty much the only one who knows how the infrastructure works and I am the only one who actively tried to get the company to a better level of coding (tests, code reviews, proper deployment / continuous integration,...) It somehow feels like that gif.10 -

I would like to ask you guys for advice.
I am a content manager who is gradually given more and more dev tasks. That is great because I want to become a webdev. However I have one big issue. Whenever I write code (any code) I feel ashamed because I know that anyone else could do better. I am also ashamed to show my work to my colleagues because I am afraid of what they might think of me. I know that they are good people and they would probably help me out but still...
Someone once tried to explain to me that I am not my code and whenever my code is being evaluated I am not the one who is being judged, it is my code, my current knowledge. I understand conceptually what he was trying to tell me but I just can't feel it.
Did you have similar feelings when you started out?
Thanks in advance.18 -
sometimes in my head i go through code i wrote some time ago and think: "did i think of this case? if that happens something could go very wrong." when i look at the code i see that i already thought about it and catched the case back then. then i am like "daaaamn i am good".
do you know that feel? :D1 -
I was asked by a client to code review their platform built in PHP. The platform was becoming slow and new features built by their current IT supplier broke existing features.
I gained access to the source code... One PHP file (index.php) containing about 80K lines of code... I am impressed and disgusted at the same time. 😂3 -
Trying to write more commit , so that i can stay top in github project chart with less real code be like....
Git commit -am "added p in code"
Git commit -am "added r in code"
Git commit -am " added i in code"
Git commit -am "added n in code"
Gir commit -am "added t in code"
Git commit -am " gave the proper indentation to print"6 -
Hahaha guys I got the HTTP response codes tattooed on my arm so I don't forget them! Aren't I fun and quirky? I'm such a code nerd, oh thanks for the likes, Twitter! Wowowowow i am just SO FUN. Look at my nerdy tattoo!!10

I am currently refactoring my code:
1. 200 errors
2. fixed them!!!!
3. build the solution...
4. wait for the build to complete...
5. 300 errors

Am I the only one? When you pushing hard in the night, to finish some code; after you done, thinking to sleep, then your stomach reminds you - there's something called eating.3
-
Annoying thing happened at work as usual -> can't get the mood to code -> procrastinate -> finally get my shit together -> get some work done -> shit it's 07.00 PM I should be going home already -> still coding because I started late -> shit it's 09.00 PM -> get the fuck home -> I need time to be alone and relieve stress by surfing the web -> shit it's 02.00 AM -> try to get some sleep -> Why did she left me? How's dad doing? God I think I that function that I coded today is awful, gotta fix it tomorrow. Am I going to afford a house EVER? Fuck what I'm doing with my life. -> Shit it's 05.00 AM, I MUST SLEEP. -> (kinda sleep) -> Fuck it's 10.00 shit shit shit shit -> arrive at work -> I'm not ready to open the code -> procrastinate -> ...4

We were in a meeting today and it came my turn to talk.
me: "I am working on something not fun. I am tracking down a bug in X software that a customer has issues with."
boss: "It is like an easter egg hunt."
me: "Yes, but instead of eggs I am going to find a pile of crap."
boss: "Laughs..."
me: "Its not chocolate..."
boss: "next..."
The original code I am wading through is very likely my boss' code.3 -
Put random text in window.alert() where ever I got error in JavaScript code. Random text like 1) If you see this, you are fucked; 2) error 001; 3)why today; 4) the code is breaking here etc.
And never removed them. They are the running in production till now. I am just thankful to the gods that the code Nevers break and the user does not get browser alert and also the fact that I don't work there anymore.4 -
Coding while drunk currently in the middle of the fucking day, hopefully I wont regret this tomorrow? Who am i kidding I'm writing brilliant code i should code drunk more often2
-
I am not a front end developer. Don't have the skill set, but I am learning. Work assigns me an "easy" task of modifying someone else's angular code(with all those <div> tags) to change some functionality. If it was well formatted, easy shit.
WHY THE FUCK DID THE PREVIOUS FUCKER INDENT LIKE THEY HATE ME? PARENT TAGS ARE FARTHER OUT THAN CHILDREN TAGS. SOME OF THE TAGS ARE 10 TABS FROM THE LEFT, WHILE THEIR CHILD IS ONLY 2. IN ADDITION, ALL THEIR CODE IS COPY PASTED FROM OTHER FILES, REFERENCES CONTROLLERS FROM OTHER PARTS OF THE CODE IT DOESNT NEED!
I am tempted to kill it with fire, find the person who wrote it(on a different continent), kill them, and then rewrite the whole thing in a language I am still learning. FUCK!2 -
What do you need a boss if you can find the idea, analyze it, design the product, code it, test it, setup the cloud and even do the marketing.
Dear bosses,
I am a developer not a God!3 -
Ah.. the beauty of clean code.
I wrote a very cleanly written program two years ago. Proper variable names, not too many, right naming, right design pattern,.. Now I come back to it and I am able to instantly figure out the code again. It only took me half a minute.
The importance of clean code... that's something the industry needs to understand more. Well, then there's the money issue. lol5 -
A german blogger i occasionally read wrote something about finding the correct programming font for the personal liking and linked this:
http://app.programmingfonts.org/
Seems kinda fun. I am currently using Fira Code but "Cousin" looks kinda interesting.
Wanted to share2 -
"I understand you want to write your own code. But that's not professional. If you have reusable tested code just copy and paste it in your project"
I thought he was joking. But I am realising it's the most valuable advice in jy workplace11 -
Am I the only one who finds the only one who finds this hypnotizing and amazing? It's like looking within a city and your code manipulates all the pathways. #IoT4
-
Everyone is on their vacation and I am in good mood so time to refactor some 3 year old frontend, angular, javascript code. After 5 minutes of looking, some great quality of code snippet on the image below.10
-
Am I the only one who thinks monitors turned to portrait looks dumb and can’t possibly be more useful? The number one reason people give when I ask is that they can fit more code on the screen. I don’t know about you but I don’t have the ability to glance at an entire screen of code in portrait or landscape and understand it immediately.6
-
When it comes to the indentation or look I am fully consistent.
But when it comes to naming I am inconsistent like a crack whore telling she's clean.
Camelcase, underscores inconsistent variable and function names. I use all of them within a single file. On some days I even switch languages.
I truly am miserable in code consistency. Is there any good advice to keep the code consistent?10 -
Running code in a JVM ... which is a virtual machine...
Inside a VM that runs Linux...
Inside a host OS that runs on native...which runs on a CISC processor... that internally runs a RISC architecture... so that makes the CISC a VM...
The RISC architecture I am pretty sure runs on Elf Magic... I am fairly certain Turing was an Elf working for Santa...
So I am really running my code on VM Elf Magic9 -
Some people refactor because feature updates need to be optimized throughout the code base.
I refactor because I am terrible at planning.3 -
- I am leaving the company, so you will work on my project.
- (looks at code) But there is no single doc string or any documentation apart from the installation guide.
- Yes, but the project is really easy to understand.
... I will just sit here trying to understand your code instead of doing actual work. -
After using so much VIM and VIM key binds in other IDEs, a piece of me dies every time I have to code without them.
Am I the only one?4 -
Legacy code written under the pressure oft a deadline by people not knowing the capabilities of the framework they use.
I am doomed...2 -
I came to this company. I saw spaghetti code. I told myself to write clean code and also clean the existing code. I took too much pressure for too little return. I am done with this shit. I will now write clean code but fuck the old spaghetti code!2
-
I hate these idiots that post source code examples as an image just so they can keep their cool highlighting and style. How the fuck am I supposed to test that without re-typing the whole thing myself? Ever try OCR on source code? Not too great, is it.12

Selecting the music to code to. As a matter of fact I just wasted more than an hour looking for the right song and now I am wasting more time ranting about it on devRant.
-
Me before learning to code: Wow Programming is so cool, I am gonna be the Mozart in coding !
Me after learning: what the hell...3 -
Knockout JS.
I am not sure if the library itself is so bad or the code which I was working on was ugly. But since then I avoid anything that is related to knockout js.10 -
I finished a big refactoring. It makes me feel so good to delete all those lines of code. Even though I have a decided to leave this company in the near future, I am very happy that I leave the code in a better shape. Somebody who is replacing me doesn't have to go through shit anymore.3
-
I used to love small 12 pt fonts but recently I've really liked coding with medium sized 16-18pt fonts and it's a big difference. As long as the characters are thin (like first code light) I really quite prefer it.
Am... Am I getting old...?13 -
Is the general public getting stupider or am i getting smarter?? I love my cousin to bits but every time he speaks, i lose brain cells. I didn’t always think he was this dumb. I find a-lot of people are too dumb to interact with lately so i stay in my house, alone, typing code and laughing at Netflix. Am i the problem?7

I am new to coding, and I am trying to find a platform to host my code. Should I choose GitLab.com or GitHub.com. Maybe the better question is: Will my code be as accessible on GitLab as it is on GitHub?17 -
I let my programming buddy comment all the code I write. He's great. His comments looks like this:
/*
I am groot!

It feels like no matter what i fucking try at this point, the universe is doing everything in its power to stop me from succeeding.............. I got so fucking depressed that i am literally writing code and crying in the same time.........4

Am I the only one who still look deep in the Code, try to find a better way of solving a problem after it's already been perfectly solved 🤔12

Sometimes I really enjoy hunting bugs in a code. It's like a puzzle game. Am I the only one with this?1

Actually finishing a project.
I am a person who gets a lot of ideas for projects I want to work on, then I start writing the code for them, then I reach a wall, stop and restart the cycle all over again.
Fuck my life.2 -
Am I the only one who treats projects, products and code as people, and talk to them e.g. This is what I said recently to my executable "are you fucking kidding me? " and my fellow developer got confused whom I am talking to4

I am driven by my love for this industry and wanting to do everything to the best of my ability.
Being a strong advocate for quality i am always on the look put for new practices and finding new ways to improve my code.
If you consider a project 'done' then you gave up on it.1 -
Just started a new job and am looking through the code base. I think I'll have plenty of material for this site at least. 🙃

Sometimes, usually during the evening, I lower the lights in the living room, put some of my greatest Scotch in a glass, and stare at this fine and beautiful piece of code I wrote a long time ago that I am really proud of.7

I have always believed that clean code is readable code, and if your code is readable, then it shouldn't require masses of comments to explain it. However, in the course I am being taught, we are being told that in programming, comments are massively important to help another developer understand your code and what it does. So what is the consensus of the dev community?
Do you feel comments are key, or redundant if your code is written well?20 -
I am currently refactoring some code which exists before my time in this company.
The code was so inefficient before. To put into perspective for every function call it used to loop through some data 100+ times .
I replaced it with a map and voila, no more loops anymore.
The person who wrote this code don't even realise how bad his code was. He sits besides me writing more stupid hacky code for other parts of the app.3 -
This jewel piece of code in Java:
if(String.valueOf(var1.toString( ) ).equalsIgnorecase(String.valueOf(var2.toString())){
//fuck something else here
}
String var1; //defined somewhere
String var2; //defined somewhere in the code
At this point I am not even mad 😂😂3 -

I am scared... I'm scared because the code works.. but it shouldn't work I mean it's not supposed to get triggered and I have no idea what triggers it. It feels like my program got cursed and started doing things on it's own. I even put up blocks to stop the function from triggering but it still works... It always works.. I am scared...7

It's Sunday. A day for prayer. Today I am praying that others dont mess up the code base when I get to work on Monday. Amen.2

Code your own damn stuff!
I am building a RFID and button controlled music player for kids.
I am using a couple of different modules for that. The one for the input was really laggy. I thought it was so laggy because of the network delay. I tinkered with it a week but it didn't improved. So I just coded my own module which was much easier to do than I thought.
It was a really rewarding to code something yourself in less than a day instead of trying to get something working for a week. -
I have never believed that it would come to this. I am writing a javascript code exam on a paper. Honestly. I always laughed at posts where I saw code on paper, but now... I'm the same xdd.4

I work in a consulting firm.
I started right after graduation. I entered with candy glasses. Thinking is all well and ready to climb the ladder.
I entered as a junior developer.
On my first project, i am constantly belittled by my team lead. To the extent i suffer from ptsd.
On my second project, i am the only dev. I am amaze i manage to handle all the development job by myself for a year. Still i get nasty comments from my boss. Despite i am able to deliver on time.
On my third project. i left due to office politics.
Currently i am in my fourth project. The code is complete mess. The development environment is crappy. It doesn't reflect change right away.
My passion has dried up.
I'm seriously giving thoughts, should i switch career path.12 -
C++ type fuxor we found by accident in our code. I am not upset about allowing 2 different types to have the same type name. I am upset that the compiler thinks they are the same type and allows pointer assignment. I didn't know you could fool the compiler this way. I suppose this might be useful if the types are in sync. But damn, this is kinda fucked.13

Client doesn't want me to use internet, while connecting to their vpn to code. It's a security 'violation', it seems. Do they think I am Denise Richie to code without internet? Steps to becoming one with your code:
1.Get red lamps and make em trippy asf.
2.Syntax color the shit out of your editor.
3.Install activate-power-mode
4.Get high or tipsy
5.Listen to surround psytrance
6.Code
Congratulations you are now in a higher level of existence. You are one with your code and your will is root.

First Post since... Long I guess?
I got a new project!! I am currently creating a Webserver Framework in Java. I can create fully functional websites with a few lines of JSON.
(Look below)
Currently I don't have direct Javascript support, but I am working on installable modules. With those the Web-Admin can code little code fragments that can be shown (live) on the webpage.
I am so hyped because it does work <3
(Pictures of development might follow)
(Can I even call it framework? Hm dunno.. )14 -

Tired of dealing with shitcode, that's all I always inherit. Maybe I picked the wrong career? or maybe I shouldn't have even read about things like SOLID or picked up Clean Code.
Then again if I hadn't, I wouldn't be where I am. But I'm unhappy. Why do I always get these projects where the poeple who wrote them (and dissappeared) clearly had no proefficiency on the used tech stack.
Am I ever gonna be part of a project with an actual lead/architect, who strives for the code not to rot?
Maybe I'm just being a little bitch whinning over this?
Halp!! the more I code, the more I hate it. It wasn't like this when I was the architect. But I didn't make as much money as I do now...
What do I do4 -
Someone gave me his code and told me to improve it and being the nice guy I am I agreed. Then while trying to work on that, a dozen other people asked me to help them with their code too, so in the end I barely got any work done.
I should stop helping people2 -
I am working as a functional consultant in a project and I setup a source control for a project for better code management....
I wanted to review the code and realized developers have been checking in zipped source code in that....

I am reviewing a piece of code as I type this, and I just had to make a rant about it. So I am managing some legacy code and I found quite the gem last week.
The code went something like this :
IF(methodA()&&methodB())
However, methodB returned ! methodA...2 -
I am currently working on a project with a team of 5. I like working at night. After committing my code, I sleep at 6. My team on waking up decides to change the UI and I have to start over again. The irony is: None of them are working with me on the frontend! Feels like I am stuck on a while(true) loop.2
-
I find it way easier to read code than ordinary text.
Am I the only one? Do I have a problem?
After the first sentence my I eyes can't focus to keep reading text. This also happens to my native language except from English.6 -

Does anybody know how Google, Microsoft, Apple etc autocomplete their code demos in live sessions? They tend to type out short codes and voila lines of code appear. They must be doing some sort of code mapping and this is what I am curios on how to do.
I am curios on how to do this in Xcode and/or in Brackets for a Python script.
Watch the next seven seconds of this Google I/O to see what I am talking about.
http://youtube.com/watch/...
PS: At the beginning of the presentation, they have four presenters on stage so I know for a fact that a human is typing out the code and its not a pre-recording of any sorts.6 -
But Why ??
Saw this I a project that my company wanted me to fix and maintain. There are more hilarious things like this. (I will keep you updated)
and I am finding things like this in the code.2 -
Just got my first job as a junior front-end developer. I am currently working on coding emails and holy crap trying to code for all different email clients. Never thought each client rendered stuff differently. (Outlook is the worst!)
But I am loving the job!5 -
I regret moving to backend. I loved the days when I used to write lines of code and refresh my browser for the changes to be displayed on the screen. I loved seeing the output of my code, the code flow, the light weight text editor, the visual satisfaction and the chrome debugger.
Now I am fucked up, I am working on creating microservices for restful api. I am hating everything about it. The fact that I should compile the entire war, manually copy them to a webapp folder, restart my tomcat and wait for 5 minutes just to see my code, and the text editors are just a pain in the ass, the debugger sucks too.
I was so looking forward to being a backend Dev because I thought Java was cool and I also was fedup with cross browser optimizations on the front end. Now I would gladly write a streaming service foe ie6. Spring has fucked me up so hard
God save me from this mess.6 -
Fucked up.
Reviewed a code and gave ship it for a colleague's code change.
In a single day, got high severity ticket cut to the team.
I am done. Not going to do anymore code reviews. I suck at it.3 -
Spent all day refactoring lots of confusing code down to just a few lines. I am satisfied, frustrated and drained all at the same time.2
-
Hmm. Seniors have the half working experience as I do and I am the only not senior one in Dev team.
I adapt code only to "taste" good for code reviewers, but they allow themselves to commit without caring and just saying :"oh unit testing is boring"
Enough with the kindergarten. Time to prepare myself for the next job.1 -
If I ever get asked to write code in C for a contract again. I am going to use the llvm C++ to C compiler. Then deliver the machine generated C code to them.6
-
Whoever put the hundreds of static_cast<T *>(p) followed by nullptr-checks in the code I am working on: Someday I will find you and then I beat you to death with a hardcover version of "C++ for dummies"!1
-
Everyday I come to work. I feel miserable. Everyday write code. Fix difficult bugs. Go home dinner sleep. Tomorrow repeat.
I am reading Jia jiang's story. Mel Robbins 5 seconds. Christ grace's lectures. Still feel miserable. What is the meaning of life? All I want is to teach people code.7 -
I am pretty sure that I am not the only one who is lazy as Fuck most of the time but when I sit to code I write enough snippets that can be combined to form Baxter building.3
-
Whole day was a debug session with several hundred lines of code and tons of if else conditions.
Found the bug.
Time to go home.
I am done. 🤕6 -
This just happened. I have to tell someone how stupid I felt a few minutes ago.
I am working on a script that is supposed to rename some files in sub folders of the current folder.
I used ChatGPT to help me out with the last part of finding all sub folders. Copied the code into VS code. Changed the path from “/path/to/folder/“ to just “/“, ran the code. It took a bit too long time to finish. Then VS Code asked for permissions to my reminders… “Why?” I asked before I realized that I confused “.” With “/“ for current folder…3 -
Am I the only one who uses the breakpoint feature in PHPStorm for highlighting parts of code instead of actually debugging?7
-
36 hrs !
Just reopened my first android app project and was truly disgusted by the code.
So thought I should refactor it and publish a new update 😐
The update is still due and I am banging my head on the wall1 -
For fuck sake why would you put in documentation some functionalities you did not even develop ?! How am I supposed to guess that my error comes from your code when event the fucking DOCSTRING of the method says the use case is handled ?
It's nice to have documentation and commented code, but could you please make it FUCKING coherent with what the code actually does ? I feel like I'm playing fucking riddles here !!2 -
I am the unit test guy now, please send all of your untested and poorly thought out code my way to be tested4
-
As a mobile developer I get fucking pissed off when I get a ticket on Jira saying: Response code 500
The server fucked up why am I the one to be reached for? Especially that code is displayed when no response body is returned -
Question:
What was the stangest thing what you saw in other's code when you reviewed it?
I never reviewed a simple code, so I am curios 😮8 -
Am I the only one that likes to see the code before the explanation when trying to learn something??7
-
I have co workers who laugh at me everytime I discuss to them how we should create clean code. (create functions for repeating code, naming conventions, generic code).
They would brag instead how they make another javascript ui library/plugin work(we are web developers by the way). Looks good in the front end but a mess in the backend.
I already created generic classes, generic database views that can be used by them if they want. But they create a new one with the same functionality.
I am a bit of a shy guy, and they are bit of loud, and I don't want to look like a know-it-all-guy, so I just let them do what they want.
I am just concerned how we can work easier by easily reading each others code.5 -
Boss(non-technical) complains we are behind the schedule he set without consulting the tech team, the complains we don't all(including BAs) don't do code review. CHOOSE!
*Note: I am not bashing code review*2 -
I hate it when someone asks me for help in a part of his code, then I find that the problem is the whole code not just that part.
I have 3 options:
- try to make it work, and get lost in his shit, not refactored code.
- tell him that I am not that good so he get out of my face
- kill him, so he can reproduce
PS: just kidding -
So here I am trying to Code a Rick Astley video on my website so 2 people can watch it in real-time but the code KEEPS DOING THE PART THAT I SPECIFICALLY TOLD IT NOT TO DO UNTIL I GET THE TIME FROM THE GOD DAMN DATABASE!!!!1
-
I am working in a cool company where during our coding principles conversation , I was giving a walkthrough of my code. I accepted some valid criticism. Shit hit the fan, when my I tried to explain it to them why I have written modules and the necessity of them in this application. So instead of writing several functions , I have created a common module for handling these tasks . After a lengthy argument , I am told that I should write understandable and lengthy code instead of complex and small one. This is what I think so too, that code should be readable by human but at some point , one also has to look decide if this practice is suitable for every carse or not. Man this is fucking killin me. Then I am also told that to rewrite the code and write it in such a way that's naive and easy to understand
-
I have never made a friend due to code. I have plenty of friends who code and shared CS classes within uni, but we met in other ways due to other interests. I don't think I am capable of being friends with the kind if people you would "meet through coding".
-
Envy me. The fnew position I am getting spun up on has me assigned to take over the work of a guy who uses no versioning methodology and updates directly to production code. and I have to get it into CM!!!2
-
I am the very model of a modern major sociopath
I like to fill a bathtab with some virgins blood and take a bath
I code in ruby and rust and make future generations cringe
at the awful fucking syntax that I pushed on theeeemmm
I am so very gleeful yay
I am so very cheerful may
Just shove expanded jargon in your face
and somehow yet you say ok.
I am the mind behind the nosql
and I made a me a mongodb
I created shitty storage methods and I laughed with evil glee
you'll never be able to code in any of these things good for me
because performance in apps that use these things is fraud you see
i am so very warm in my bath
i make shitty programs and i laugh
now join me while i sacrifice this calf
and make this video of about that shit the graph -
Code review today and the senior says "Avoid comments. Putting the procedure in a well named function where it can modify those class properties will work just as well."
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU ARE GOING TO PREFER CODE OVERHEAD OVER COMMENTS? I AM SO TRIGGERED RIGHT NOW I CAN'T17 -
Am I the only one who's so fkin fond of the ES6 function declaration of (params) => {//code} over other declaration types?2
-
Pretty sure that the code doesn't work on the first run, so I thought why not debug it now? but then when am I actually gonna run it...
-
Best place to code: Home! In my bed !
Why ? : Simple ! I can take a quick nap when i am tired and wake up with the solution !6 -
So my code wasn't working and couldn't understand why. I had a statement like someVar == 'A' but when I wrote the letter A I didn't change my keyboard language from Greek to English and I didn't notice because the letters are the same in both languages. Spent like 8 hours commenting out and debugging code just to re-write all the code cause I thought the compiler is broken or I am losing my mind....1
-
Anybody wanna contribute to this, find issues...?
https://github.com/Ganofins/...
I know the code structure is worst...but I am trying to improve it
Sorry for that16 -
I went to my friend's party on Friday and I got back like at 3 am and code till 5 then I got a bug on a php script to upload pictures to the server. wake up at 10 am fixed the bug with a hangover of cheap alcohol and went to sleep the rest of the day.
Am I killing it or what?😂3 -
Coding is like drinking. If you code too much you get muscle pain (hangover) the next day.
I am having a muscle pain but I still want to code.19 -
Am I the only one missing ``` // some code ``` backticks/tags (the ones that convert wrapped text to monospace code) here? @trogus -- Since this is a dev-oriented community.. could this be an area to improve devRant?2

Am I the only one who heavily comments their code when learning a new language to the point of you essentially describing what everything is and how everything works6
-
Rant/Love.
I am sitting in this Big data class next to a girl.(I don't really talk to her so much but things are about to change ) A guy is asking her to share her code base for some insights/ideas on homework and she advices
Don't look at the code base else you'll get same ideas I got and would never come with an original solution. Then she further goes on advising on solving map reduce problems and giving me some tips to be careful about.
I turned amazed. It was like deja vu. I said the same thing to my friend some time last week.
My eyes glittered and suddenly I am like
Where were you all these days ???
Nothing is more attracting then a girl talking about code.
Am I the only one ??6 -
Nothing excites me more than a beautiful, simple and logical piece of code...
Sometimes I even feel like a creep with that obsession.
Am I the only one here?1 -
Sooo as someone that just started using photoshop (got it for free at work) i can see the benefits of it for actual design. But are there any ways to convert to an actual web page other than by just sucking it up and going through the code by design? I see no much difference than looking at a shit of paper with a drawing of something and coding it. Am I missing something? Mind you I do know how to code, sure I am lacking in the design dpmnt ( more of a backend / mobile dev)7
-
Someone just explain me why. I really can't figure other reason that beeing too lazy to think a condition while writing a "while loop".
At university, a colleague asked me what i think of his code. I see something like that:
while ( 1 ){
...
if (condition)
break;
...
}
Am I a fucking genius thinking that just moving condition into while will improve readability, or am i a fucking stupid ? Really not the first time seeing this, maybe i am missing something.4 -
I started by looking at existing code and then began to build my own tools and projects, then rebuilding until eventually I got to where I am at the minute. It's a constant learning process.
-
So turns out I am making a blog about my attempt to make a Facebook but not clone for my wife and her friend. Any blog naming ideas? I am thinking "Facebook but Different" haha. The idea would not be sharing direct code, but more of a devlog and coding choices(as a backend dev, I am sure the front end choices will be perfect and Superior to all front end developers' choices 😁😁)3
-
Helping to fix legacy code on a staging server. No version control (at least not that I am aware of). Besides rare code comments, no way to see the author, time, or even purpose of customizations that have been made. No fun!1
-
Starting to code before making the wireframe or the design.
So i am basically blind coding
Wherever the wind takes me! -
When your senior says he may as well stops working as I'm always refactoring his code...
Same sentence says I copy what you've done in other places so I don't see why it isn't good enough. By copy he leaves redundant code in there too.
Am I a being a douche is he just being over the top?
- He writes code and expects it to live for a long time.
- I write code and will go home and refactor my own code.2 -
almost end of working day... jobless...
me : *running `uptime` on a server*
*for no reason* : runs `uptime --pretty`
interesting output... ( that I have seen so many times on my personal machine because I have `uptime` aliased to `uptime --pretty` )
*thinks to self* : didn't we create that program that computed a similar output? Wonder if the code is similar...
*brain gets excited about the source code of `uptime`*
goes hunting for the source code of `uptime`... finds it... ( wasn't too hard anyway )
now here I am comparing my code with the source code of `uptime`
what a way to end the day... 🤦 FML!1 -
For now I decided to give less shits about bad code and the job. Unfortunately I am not resolute enough right now to steer a ship going in the wrong direction. Once clock hits 5 this homeboy is out.

The code life is a cold life, but I love it. And, I can't get enough of this video! "I am a different bug. I'm the last bug you see before you die."

Where do i start , if i am interested to contribute to Open Source projects in C ?
I have a good understanding of C language. Even if i am not able to contribute , it would be nice learn from those projects .
The problem with big projects like the linux kernel is that i dont understand or cant comprehend most of the code , except for few sections like gpios..5 -
I am an ancient beast called "Humturnal".
..half human..half nocturnal..
I answer life problem and code like a beast at night.
I wake up tired as f**k and I remember nothing in the morning.1 -
Today is the day when writing even 5 lines of code seems like a huge task.
Mainly because I am feeling really drowsy in the middle of the day🥱 -
We had a debugging competition in college!! I was all excited abt it.. but it was a facepalm situation when I realised that the code had syntactical as well as logical errors while the purpose of the code was not specified 😂😂😂...
I was like.. what am i supposed to do??? Replace the entire code with hello world?!?!😂 -
Starting work like "How the hell am i going to do this !!"
ending it like "was that even a task !!"
the excitements and horrors of code. -
Am I the only one who very often creates a new project folder and copies all the code because it's easier than cleaning dependencies and such?1
-
How dangerous am I?
I code it live.
I code while people are working on our website and make all the changes live. And if I notice an abrupt stop in responses to our logs I git stash my changes.5 -
What is the point of removing code that will literally be added back in on another story? I just don't get it. I am in the code. It took two seconds to fix it but because it is not part of the story that i am working on someone is going back and ripping it out even though the next story is to put it in. Don't fucking complain to me because we are behind on this fucking project.2
-
That moment when you spend hours on fixing some bug, and finally discover that the problem is in another piece of code..
Literally, I feel I am on dumpiness overflow ! -
I am a junior developer, two weeks ago I got a job for the first time in my life as a fullstack web developer, I have felt bad for the times that "I should have read the code better before coding", I think I am distracted and impatient. I make mistakes because I don't know how the system works in some parts and I write repeated or unnecessary code, my boss has corrected me, but I feel very stupid and I'm afraid of being fired. Is it normal to feel like this?2
-
First Rant...
Why the fuck do I get on a C++ interview the question if I now Javascript......everytime.... NO I DON'T WANT TO KNOW JAVASCRIPT!!!
Real coders code in C/C++ and not hipster javascript. Am I alone???(probably)10 -
Am i the only one who finds it difficult to code whilst listening to music on my earphones? I fond it difficult to concentrate9

I decided to take this week to write unit tests for some code I already finished. I am new at it and I really want to incorporate as part of work. (Damn deadlines).
I am already seeing the good effects. Bugs I didn't catch before are now showing up.
Now I am wondering what I have been doing all these days calling myself a developer... -
So in my experience, coding while I'm not sober actually helps out sometimes. I always end up documenting my code way more so that I can keep track of what I am doing, and the code I write is actually decent.
Ofcourse, I always re-test it once sober again2 -
I am very close to being a violent psychopath from "Always code as if the person who ends up maintaining your code is a violent psychopath who knows where you live."
Foreach within a foreach with counters and a check if the counters match in the inner foreach and in that case do something.... And that's not even the worst part of the code I have to modify ever so slightly... Fml3 -
When I am stuck on a problem, I try to get outside and do something physical. Go for a run, jump on the bike. Find it clears my head and helps me to see the code more clearly.
-
Genuinely asking some rare pokemon php developers that are up to date with the tech (all php devs I know stopped learning when my grandpa was like 5 years old) to show me php code that is not spaghetti bolognese. I am asking this as I am yet to witness such code for the first time in my life (and I am coding since 94')!13
-
Is there a proper dark theme for ecplise or do you have to meddle with the source code to get something proper?
I am spoiled by atom and now deeply upset.2 -
I am a beginner and want to code all the time. Even feel my current job useless and waste of time. I should find a job where I can learn, but my knowledge is too basic yet. :/4
-
To all devs who don't comment their Code
WHO THE FUCK SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOU INTENDED WITH YOUR FUCKING PIECE OF CODE
Well - I am one of you. I'm realy lazy in commenting. But it is very hard to understand a piece of code if you are not used to a complex architecture.
If there will ever be the chance of having another dev seeing your Code:
COMMENT IT1 -

Am currently handling a very bad code, once you add any feature the app crash and you have to fix the whole POKER application ( as you know poker is a really complicated and everything related to each other). The app crash and every single line of code goes wrong. As well i do barely have a break and am working overtime and during the weekend.
In addition to all of this i have a very complicated design and animation to the chips. Adding to this am the only developer working on this project.
Summing-up am working 10 to 11 hours per day 7 days a week. And still the manager is dissing me as if am not a good developer.
I feel so bad, i cant describe how am currently feeling.
So guys do you believe handling a very bad code might reflect your coding skills ?3 -
Had written a robust code. Project manager asked me to make some changes which will alter the code consistency (which he doesn't understand).
I suggested an alternative..
Project manager warned me not to go according to my convenience...
Fuck them.. now i am writing code as per their needs... #Lifeofprogrammers3 -
Working for the wrong manager in the wrong company at the wrong time;
This shit will rip off all your energy to code, no matter how crazy you are about it.

How was I able to fix this bullshit report generator task?
Simple bitch. I am that fucking good. Matter of fact. I am more than good. Sit the fuck down and listen.
That fucktard you have over there acting as a faculty member teaching kids about code and security? Blame that bitch for the horrible code that was NOT working since he wrote that with absolute disdain for software engineering and without taste or finesse.
Yeah I was able to troubleshoot his monster of an app. His ass is the reason why people hate php, giving the lang and community a bad name and shit.
Pleased to meet you btw.
I am Alex. Your new rockstar.
To my manager: i got it babe don't worry. I'll be your huckleberry.
I am out.1 -
I hate it when I am looking online at someone else's code where they thought they could just paste 50+ lines of code with no formatting! Or even worse, the sites desktop app has formatting, but on mobile, the app just smashes everything together. Does anyone else have this problem?
-
The code I am supposed to refactor only builds if mounted on/as drive s:\.
Sure worked for the previous dev.
First thing to do: new makefile. And git init. -
How the fuck am I supposed to code and attend meetings with a broken heart?
Relationships are the fucking pits.2 -
I just discovered the code golf stack exchange. I had no clue this even existed.
I am fascinated, scared, but fascinated.2 -
Its midnight here...worked for almost 12 hours.... Spend the last 30 mins or so very frustrated and try to figure out why I am not getting desired response. Edited the code again and again... Soon I realize... I am editing local codes, never pushed to live. And Im testing live the whole time....WOW. I am relieved and ashamed at the same time.
-
Submitted my first ever assignment for Computing today 🎉🎉 I'll admit I am surprised how little written code assignments I have on the Programming module though...

I am against the death penalty so I think we should eliminate all references to "execute" in code. (Oh, sorry I said "eliminate". I'm also against killing.)1

i am terrible at using swagger autogenerated code, yaml and swagger files
dont fucking false positive pass, tell me if theres indenting wrong
also why the fuck wont you generate the code im trying to get you to generate
i fucking hate you so much, ive done this once before what am i doing wrong now -
when I am maintaining someone elses code, the class is 900 lines and I loose the context on line 100... then I rely on the test fixture... where all tests are ignored.

So if one aspires to the insanity of programming , what is the best code to get started with . I am interested in creating for mobile , primarily iPhone .9

Timelines will shift because of my incomplete code. My senior will be pissed that I took so many days and delivered a simple code with no junits with a lot of conditions missing.
I am doing nothing. I am. preparing for a switch but I am feeling anxious again. I earlier also got a feedback that I ask for the feedbacks or suggestions very late, in this case my senior kept on saying that he'll review directly. This code review was expected to have problems but now the timelines are set. Although I knew that the iterations will be there, I did not put those in the timelines, I could not voice it out in front of my manager. I suck.
I never got a positive feedback here. NEVER. Looks like 2 people I need to closely work with are always pointing out the problems and I have lost my confidence and anxiety hits me hard.3 -
I tend to write with long variable names instead of using too many comments to explain what i am doing in the code. Is it wrong?1
-
Why am I not a queen of blunders. I did one line wrong in the code, my senior has to spent a lot of time on it. I spent like 2 days on it. Turned out to be one of my blunders.
I am so tired. I am done. I will. complete my 4 years in industry soon and this ks what I do.
This is not the first time due to small issues things are delayed.2 -
I've grown so dependent on my code editor for daily work. If someone takes away my code editor (intelliJ) I am effectively handicapped. Won't even know if the syntax of the language I am writing in daily for the last two years is correct.4
-
My company used to just let anyone write code for our customers. Now I am the official development department. I knew someone wrote something very similar to a new request I got from a customer, so I requested his code because I didn't want to rewrite everything. After seeing the code I changed my mind and I want to redo it from scratch.
-
What in the actual fuck is vs code doing with the language servers? I am idle for minutes, but the language servers are constantly are roasting my cpu harder than linus doing code reviews.
Fucking hell, I can't enjoy the music in the background, with the cooling system crying.3 -
Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying learning to code.
I'm using team treehouse to learn. Android app development.
Going well so far. The instructors really explain it well.
Let me know if you guys want a referral code.1 -
Just lost all my morning code because the multi-socket adapter decided to die...it has been a week I am asking for a new one...
-
I am starting to think the biggest problem with my current project isn't the business unit changing their minds all the time. It looks like the biggest problem is me continuously refactoring the code.
-
I have been helping out a teammate with a code fix but never wants to try my code solutions, instead he always complaints about it, even if they work and comply with the conventions. (I am his dev lead)2

I am the only front end developer in my team, used to be 2, and there is 4 java backend dev. We are all Seniors, so you'd expect to be experienced. I like my code to be "nice" and I am using linting tools, rules, formatting etc... (I do JS mainly).
During a scrum review some of the java guys showed some code on the screen and that thing was a monstrosity for me! I could not look at some code like that, if I had to work with that I'd probably hang myself. Nothing was aligned, no consistency. So my question: you guys aren't using any guidelines to have cleaner code ? How do you make sure you all code the same ?
...
What are you taking about ? We use Eclipse, with default options, no tools no guidelines...1 -
Writing DAL code that I am 99% sure will be replaced really soon along with the database schema.
Angry coding is almost as good as tipsy coding - AMAZING. -
Am I the only one who thinks to rewrite whole thing when the code have weird formatting and so complex to understand and annoying bunch of functions which can be just ternary or an if?
-
Am I the only one here who thinks Go code is tedious and difficult to maintain? The language is easy to learn but to maintain it? #wtf1

/* wk54 */
I would like to resolve the problems of my code while i am taking a nap.
Every time that i get stopped , i´ll take a nap and resolve it in my dreams. Then, when I wake up, the code will be clear and the solution it always work!.
ALL DAY NAPPING !! -
I think i have fallen into clinical depression becahse i am uncontrollably crying while writing code. I am having so many bugs i dont knkw hkw tk fix. I published my app to google plah store and the registration doesnt work. On app store cant be even published. After 4 years of development i failed i am so sad and depressed3

I am planing to create a reading list for technical books and am looking for recommendations.
Currently I have:
- Spark: The definitive Guide (need it for a university project)
- Clean Code
- Clean Architecture
- Functional Programming, simplified (or any other beginner-friendly book about FP)
Do you have any recommendations and must-reads for a more junior developer? I am looking for stuff about FP, Code Quality, Java, Python, Scala, and any general interesting technical stuff.3 -
Am I the only one who thinks OOP in Javascript isn't always the best option? I really like structured code with classes and objects but sometimes it's just fun and satisfying to write a buttload of functions to do all sorts of things and build your code with that.1

I CANNOT STAND HTML
I am learning HTML and CSS through Cengage and honestly it ruins my life. I type in the code EXACTLY as the textbook has it, but apparently its still wrong5 -
Why do I always get errors when I am trying to learn something by following YouTube tutorials like I follow every single step, write the same code but I get errors. I feel like giving up sometimes13

Is anyone around experienced with SDR, especially the HackRF?
I am trying to send OOK data at a certain frequency but it doesn't work. I am basically recording the wave, then using ooktools to decode the wave to binary and the hackrf_ook to send the binary. It doesn't work...
Using GNURadio for replay attacks works great, since I am not testing it on a rolling code device.
Has anyone managed to transmit binary (or hex) with the HackRF or any other SDR as a matter of fact? I cant use rfcat with the HackRF. -
At the place where I am interning right now, most QAs that file bugs are running code that is nearly 6 months old. 95% of the bugs they file don't exist anymore in the current code -_-
This is in spite of testing environments available with the latest code deployed :/ They just refuse to use them!1 -
First year as a professional developer, and this Thanksgiving break is making it hard to get back into the code base here at work. Am I the only one?2

Who has time to look at the time when coding? When I code, I am usually stopped by the arrival of dawn T_T3 -
When refactoring and reusing code, is it even ethical to change author?
I am on a project of creating reusable library from another project. Original code is perfectly written, easy to understand. I will just prune the code and fix minor bugs.
I have seen colleagues replacing the original author field in the same scenario with their names, feels wrong. Can I add non-standard maintainer field in doxygen format?14 -
Am I the only one that in order to keep C code clean has a horrible file with macros and util functions?4

I am reading a book that intoduce 23 design patterns. I can understand what they say ,But when start to code,I find that I not sure where should I Use thoes patterns。dose it come from experience? I cant get the point.5

Does anyone knows what the hell is "coala" that's used for liting and fixing code? Cause I am pushing something and they said I need to fix my code using "coala" but I can't seem to figure it out what it is, how to install... I even tried to install in atom as plugin but that shit gives errors.7

I love maths so much, but I am at the verge of suicide due to differential equations right now...
Wish I could code something 😟2 -
Honestly, am I the same guy who wrote this code 4 years ago? How comes I never commented it! Shit man. What do you do with code that works just fine but you don't know how it works..???2

Spent half a day working on some code to add some functionality. Ran into some binary assumptions and found workarounds. Got everything implemented and close to start testing things. Not a lot of code, but a lot of places that needed careful attention to detail. Started looking at the final code needed for initializing things. Found that all the code I wrote would not be needed if I just initialize some things differently. Realized I don't need all this code. The code is literally redundant.
git checkout <changed files>
Okay, now I understand the code better. I am ahead because I am not maintaining code I don't need. Half a day of reading the code helps me understand everything that is there.
Life is good. 😀 -
After using Visual Studio Code as default editor, I am finally aware that PHPStorm does everything the wrong way, or does it?5

Everytime i am forced to code with Visual studio I cant really remember why I hate it so much. But when I wait for the first autocompletion it comes back at me: Intellisense you useless piece of crap! I am faster coding in notepad looking up shit on the internet for 'autocompletion'....

I go through cycles of what I want to work on during my off time. Sometimes I code utilities for video games. Other times I get engrossed in games. One of the games I like to play is Minecraft. Not vanilla Minecraft, but modded Minecraft. It scratches that itch for creativity, fun, relaxing, hanging with people, and technical interest. I am currently playing a medium sized older modpack that has most of the mods I like to play: magic, tech, building tools, dimension building and more.
I am early game on a server with some other people. I already overloaded the server with a population explosion of villagers I am melting down for emeralds. That was interesting. I started automating this and decided to try using ComputerCraft to automate some pieces of this. I stared at the code and just "no, I am not working on my off time". I am going to automate this another way. I used to really like computercraft, but it was code and looked like work. I find that interesting.
Anyway, this is random ass shit I do for fun. Wood house/shack, workroom and ore processing are with no walls, decent small tree farm, and a nuclear reactor in the basement...2 -
How did you get the people from Info Security and Compliance on board this continuous delivery thing ?
I am being asked to run antivirus scans on my own code and binaries as part of build.
Is this common practice? Am I missing something?
I am going to deploy stuff on Azure PaaS. I can understand having malware scan agent on azure VMs scanning the infra, but this?4 -

What should I create?
For the past few days, I am having a very strong urge to start a daily coding streak but I am not sure what should i I code? Any ideas for a side project or anything which might help me build that habit.
Any help is much appreciated.6 -
Sometimes while writing software / consulting I feel like house md. Not always am I right the first time, but this is often due to me looking at the wrong thing. But at the end of the day I am able to give advice that may be seen absurd but usually is correct.

I am working on a java project and I want to know where are compilers and interpreter stores machine code? According to this post https://interviewbit.com/blog/... Compilers store machine code in the disk storage but not an idea about the interpreter. Any suggestion5

some things I found in AOSP code good to see that I am the only one who writes bad patches to make things run .

Not quite, maybe almost good?
But I am still trying to get good.
I still read the documentation and guides when I write a program. especially when trying to use a library code within my program. -
Radeon graphics driver crashed again.
I hope one day they will actually fix it but the light of my hope grows dimmer every day.
Hire some talent?
Rewrite their code in Rust?
Do some static code analysis?
Better modularity?
Some code reviews? Proofreading?
I am at a loss of words. The crashes need to stop.8 -

So I work with another team that develop services I use for my website.
The thing is, when they do big changes, I am not warned. So when I update my proxies, surprise, don't compile anymore, have things to change.
Worse is, I have their code right now. And the code that is deployed right now. They're not the same. So I know that I'm gonna have to change again things some days, but that's because I searched through the code. -
function customActions() {
changeActions(this);
}
Why? Why is this in the code I'm told to refactor?
What am I supposed to do with this?1 -
Most of the code I write are adopted from SO answers and dev blogs, am I a terrible coder or not even one?

The documentation/website I was reading uses a time-delay animation. Just when I am back into working in the code on my main monitor the animation pops up and distracts me from the code I was writing.
