Today I met a girl who’s super cute, down to earth, smart, uses no social media, and games. I would normally wake up soon after such dreams, but this actually happened today. I asked her out before it was too late 😊20
-
Évolution.. so basically I have tried to grow a beard but it was too annoying and too scratchy so I dropped.. like all those side projects I guess...7
-
SSH'd into all the computers in college's lab and edited the bashrc to display "YOU ARE BEING WATCHED / YOU'VE BEEN HACKED" etc.
Everyone freaked out instantly.
Then edited my own bashrc file too so that no one realizes it's me.
I was surprised at how easy it was.8 -
I did get a raise but we also hired like 5 new people... But I still do the same amount of work... Which was already too much...11
-
I've ranted so much, this is where they moved me to. They couldn't fire my because I was too valuable an asset to the project.13
-
Got some swag in the mail today.
I was told I could get a refund for the hat if it was too small. I literally have the biggest head in the world and it fits me fine.
For those who complained, did you try taking it off and on again?6 -
Just got a reply from a client complaining that the site I did for him is "too responsive".
Never got this kind of complain.
Normally I might get some complains about the site not being fully responsive but never was I expecting to receive a "site is too responsive" complain.15 -
My first self written framework 😅
Damn that was a pile of ****, I still write my own stuff (frameworks etc) but I've learned a lot and those are way better compared to that first one.
Everything was static, loads of defines (way too fucking many) and so on.
Dus.....6 -
Lol 😂. I was expecting a mnemonic of some kind but this works too.

”Are you planning on having kids in the near future?”
Literally (very) illegal to ask where I live. Too bad I was too young to understand the severity of him asking.
Worst place I’ve ever worked.8 -
My teacher told me not to do a project. He said it was much too hard.
I did it.
2 months pass
And then i come to him with anothec project idea.
Same thing goes, nobody believes in me, but i still succeed.
in the aftermath, i was able to create an interpreter AND a compiler in about 1 year... 😁23 -
Just realized no one in my class knew that Stack Overflow was an actual thing, not just the website. Too much Java I guess :D10

*Programers can't spell*
In a previous job, I once spelled inquiries as enquiries. It was a service and it was used in many places throughout the app. Somehow, it made it through peer review and even my teammates started using the misspelled word.
I didn't realize my mistake till months later and by that time I thought it was too much work to fix it (or I was too lazy).
I'm pretty sure we even misspelled it for the on-screen texts.
Moral of the Story: know how to spell shit9 -
I almost did rm -rf / as root on my computer, but Ubuntu actually stopped me from doing it, even as root, saying it was too dangerous. Props, Ubuntu. You saved my hard drive.9
-
I was called in our residents meeting because I was talking on the phone that "We should kill the childs first and if there are any orphans we should kill them,too".3
-
What a blow when I saw this sticker on the car in front of me:
"It this sticker is blue than you are driving too fast."
I was driving near the engineering faculty.15 -
Today I was asked to decide on a handheld or "madonna" microphone for a conference I have to speak at in 2 weeks. Its time to come clean, I never thought the day would actually come, i'm far too terrified to actually go through with it. I just wanna write code in my dark little corner and be left alone. I wonder can I get out of this or is it too late4
-
I recently found an old laptop and turned on. It was running Windows but was too slow to use. I had Linux installed and it runs like new. I now have a laptop to use with no extra charge. Thanks Linux!2
-
!rant I finished crocheting the capelet I was working on. Not too bad for a first attempt, I think!22
-
I was coding and drinking this weekend, and I might’ve drank too many. Fast forward two days, there is a box from amazon and inside it was an inflatable sheep. Apparently, I ordered it and I can’t remember why8
-
I think I once saw Richard Stallman in a subway in New York, but I'm still not sure if it really was him or just another hobo.
I wanted to go up to him and ask, but was too scared that I might offend him if it _was_ him or get attacked by a hobo if not.4 -
So my ex gf was a developer too and she used spaces instead of tabs and she would put the { on a new line. That was not the reason to break up with her but I just can't hold my rage ffs18
-
Tried 'root' as the username on a Mac at the Apple Store and guess what. I was in.
Too bad Apple Geniuses aren't smart enough to update after all..4 -
Worst hackaton? The one when i realized too late i was stuck with a bunch of kids bragging about being "devs" because they knew how to download an html template for wordpress 😭8
-
I was told that I am too sensitive and afterwards a liability because I couldn’t concentrate in a working space where interns were constantly screaming, running around, hitting and farting each other, throwing shit around and playing games (instead of working)...
I was told by the HR person that “boys will be boys”...9 -
I created website for a client, with sleek material design.
He told me that the website was too flat and needed more shadows and gradients to make it more modern and 3D.8 -
Recently had a meeting with the company that acquired my startup, where I was required to relinquish root/admin access across AWS, SSH, and database. It was decided that I held too much power, and will now only have read-only access to develop. I'm not entirely sure what I do for work now.5

The last 5 months have been tough.... My boss ( who was a close friend) quit and I become interim department head... Trying to run a team who didn't seem happy I'd taken the reigns.
At the same time my wife's ongoing battle with her anxiety had gotten worse and she really needed my help with everything possible at home..
In March I was confirmed as the HoD but I was still doing 3 to 4 days a week on client delivery, trying to support all presales activities, manage a team of 10 people, travel for work and support my family....😩
It really got to me and I was close to breaking... The worry of not replying to an email ASAP no matter what time of day would eat me up, working late every night... It got too much and I was running on fumes with my weekends just me completely wiped out and useless to the family. 😓
.....But.....
I had a escape last weekend to a 🍻 beer 🍻 festival with friends that I was considering not going too and just losing the money but the wife made me go...
And it broke me even more... So much that its somehow put the pieces back in the right order in my brain and snapped me out of my major rut!
Somehow, sitting with friends, making stupid jokes, drinking way too much and blocking out all the work crap gave my brain the hard reset it needed. 🤟
This week I've come back a different person ( wife's words) work is a breeze, exciting and encouraging.... 👊
I can't get enough of playing silly games with my kids all night
And couldn't feel any more positive about things if I tried.... Set that spark back for my wife too! 😏💏
So.... After that long rant 👀
Tl;Dr - work and life got too much... Close to giving up... Too much beer with good company gave me a hard reset and I feel like a new person.... 👍
Plus the team is now loving the new direction and strategy too 👔
Who says drinking is bad for you? 😂🍻11 -
if people are curious of the PTSD baggage i'm carrying and why i rage so much at everything, see attached picture
granted, this was partly my fault, as i said, i was far too nice, and stayed for far too long
also note this job was AFTER a 2+ previous e-commerce job with ultimately failed project and little pay
UG i mean LOOK at this... i could go on and on for hours "push notifications must run" - yeah a casual bullet point that needs to be finished by end of day? hahahaha20 -
Playing way too many games when I was younger I realised I could do work with computers as a job if spent that time teaching myself.
Uninstalled Windows to stop temptation, hellooooo Linux6 -
That would be the time when i got fired from my last job. Hosting company, it had lots of good stuff and bonusses, coworkers were great, i was doing really important stuff when suddenly, i got fired and replaced... 'You have a too strong personality, sometimes you're just too outspoken'... At hearing those words, i felt very sad. Took a few bottles of champagne from the fridge at work (they had those apparently a year already, nobody touched them)... I left the building, together with two coworkers who became friends, drank the two bottles of champagne... i was crying... Because i got smacked in the face due to my personality. Admitted i am an extravert, and i do dare to talk back when it's needed, always polite, but ensuring i was not agreeing. Still i did my job pretty well. I was practically the only one that was multi-lingual!
After that i became a freelancer. It was a good start, a lesser good intermission, but next month i am starting at a goverment department for long term, so future is looking good.4 -
Life can't be too bad when most of your spam calls are from recruiters. It made me emotional to remember 4 years ago when I was the one calling to them.6
-
programmed a three page website at 2 am in my room, on my phone, because i was too lazy to walk to the next room and get my laptop7
-
Just had le first sollicitation/interview.
Went pretty good! Nice guy, very relaxed talking/environment aaand they use Linux internally so no windows for me (if I get the job)!
Although the fact that I don't plan on staying longer than a year (maybe I was too honest) wasn't a good thing to say, it was a good interview :)18 -
Just found an admin portal online. There was a modal asking for password, but in background the portal was visible. ctrl + shift + i and then closed the modal.
Voila, the whole portal and actions are accessible. Seriously, who develops things like these?
I am pretty sure it's vulnerable to sqli and xss too.8 -
I knew this guy was pure evil.
Deployment on friday night !
And that too before Christmas.
Thank god Santa doesnt use Tesla5 -
Yesterday I had to film something but I was too lazy to set up my LED pannel so I wrote a blank html page and opened it in fullscreen on my projector.7
-
Today, I reached a new level of laziness.
I lied down to watch a movie and I was too lazy to copy the movie from my external hard drive which was in the other side of the bed.
What did I do? I've downloaded the movie once again and watched.3 -
I was fixing a bug in Production and at the same time, the same client called me for the other project saying its too urgent.
I was like Oh god what now?
Guess what she wanted to change the color of Navbar.5 -
I started drinking coffee when I started as a junior dev.
I loved its boost, but after a while being on coffee was exactly how I felt before as normal. I incrementally upped the dosage, while my resistance creeped up too. I reached a moment when I drank a liter daily, so I witched to yerba maté instead, which resulted in more potent brews. Then I got used to its strength too plus it tasted like horseshit. I switched to caffeine tablets, takingg more and more. Soon after I reached a level which was described medically as the top one should be allowed to take.
I no longer felt any boost. In between caffeinated moments of normalty, I felt like a brain-dead zombie. When I was caffeinated, I was jittery, my shoulder and eyebrow was glitching, my stomach was flexing like before taking a huge exam.
After some miserable time like that, I quit caffeine entirely. I was fatigued, dull and my mind was hazy for te next 1-2 weeks.
I then finally, became gradually normal again.
I drink tea and coffee only socially, perhaps a few times in a month, and never after too much later than noon.
Now I can't wear my "Programmer. Converts coffee into code" shirt anymore. Apart from that, I'm much better off :)
What's your coffee story?14 -
My worst devSin was testing in production once because I was too lazy to set up the dev environment locally.
Never will I do that mistake again!4 -
I told a Friend I haven't spoken to in a while that I was a programmer. He said "what does that mean? So you choose the programmes we get too see on the TV?" with complete seriousness.3

Alexa is refusing to answer any of my questions....guess I pushed her too far when I asked her what the temperature was outside....lol

Hello, I'm new here and I was wondering if there were other students on here. I'm fine with talking to anyone but I can't help but feel too intimidated to talk to experienced professionals.37

I was gonna write some code, but Tomcat stopped by

Damn. Maybe if I was more charismatic, I too could stop learning and just talk my way into a position with a bullshit title.
Maybe.9 -
On a 5 hour bus ride for which the company advertised that they have WiFi. Technically they did, it just didn't seem to be connected to anything. (it was but it was unusable). I tried logging into the router as i always do and one default "admin" password later i was in.
I didn't want to mess up anything too badly, however i did change the wpa password to "YouShouldMakeThisABitMoreSecure"5 -
I knew I'm in this too deep last night when I lay awake on my bed at 4:04 and all I thought was 404 sleep not found1
-
I'm the first in 3 generations not be some sort of pipeline/mechical engineer. All my family works at the same company too.
I was partially accepting because at least a software engineer is some kind of engineer.
...And than my cousin graduated to be a gym teacher so I was then fully accepted 😂3 -
We're currently designing the ALU of a CPU at the university. After that we will design the registers and combine them all together.
It is like the awakening of a child inside of me. I have tried to understand how computers work in its very details.
That was too complex to me, but I believed that I can and will understand it when I start from somewhere in that field. That lead me to learn HTML and CSS when I was 6 to 8 (idk it has been too many years).
I'm really indescribably fascinated, motivated and happy.6 -
So my PR for the JetBrains university repo got accepted and now...
YEEESS!
reposted because i was too dumb to cut out my full name9 -
I've spent too much time online... I'm in a zoom meeting, I missed what someone said, reached to my keyboard to rewind then realised it was live... 🙈13

I recently came across my old interview assignment code which I had written while I was still in college. Oh my God, it was cringy! It was such crappy code 😂
My coworker (who had interviewed me) saw it too. He was surprisingly very chill about it, saying that the code is not bad, it just shows a lack of experience. I think I will choose to believe him 🙃4 -
I hardcoded credentials into source code because I was too lazy to write the method to read them from the database properly.1

Developed web shop for weed dealer
once. Paid me in weed. His plan was to sell cosmetics through the site and move away from drug dealing altogether. Not sure if he actually did it, as I was too high to finish it..7 -
I spend this weekend working on this Game. It was a lot of frustration, but I learned a lot from it too.
I hope you like it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
But now I’m ready to make something bigger, better, funnier (O_o)13 -
Has anyone else noticed how hostile Stack Overflow has become? I was up at 4 am the other night (or I guess technically morning) and I was too tired to think straight so I posted a question about a syntax error I had and went to bed.
By the time I woke up I had 3 down votes and 2 comments saying how dumb this question was yet not a single answer.39 -
I was born in 1989 and I started to code last year. Do you think it's too late for me and I can't be a pro?😕9
-
Well, fucking great, the only sticker place that had the best quality stickers closed the marketplace. I was holding off from buying all the stickers I wanted for too long, fuck.4
-
I decided to redo the padding on my chair because it was getting uncomfortable. All the screws they used to put it together were at least half an inch too long. I was basically sitting on nails.7
-
I was just browsing some programming subreddits and reading a few tech articles and I literally got depressed from the state of this industry. Too late to become a barista?7
-
!dev && avaition.stuff()
What a stupid idea to approach like that....
I was planning a crosswind landing, but I was too high, forgot how to extend the flaps, and for some reason the left landing gear wan't extended.
--> Crash
(FSX - ICAO: RKSW, IATA: SWU)20 -
"Hey, I learned what the internet was yesterday and read some random stuff some strangers said. Let me tell you about the best materials to learn web development."
- Way too many people2 -
So a recruiter called me for the Mobile App Dev position just to asked me wether I am familiar with "CODING IN XML"?
I was like if xml is consider a programming language, json will be too.12 -
So today I attended FB developers circle F8 meet-up. It was awesome, made some new friends and even learned about new trends in technology field. And yes got this awesome stickers too....1
-
Fuck me I forgot to eat (was too busy at work) and I lost my chance to eat anything from the cafeteria.
Oh well...vending machine it is.2 -
Had a recruiter say I was saying "wasting his time" by constantly declining job opportunities he sent via email (it was a mass email too). Another recruiter started questioning why I didn't work for this other company that didn't seem to have technology as a decent focus at its core. I'm honestly done with recruiters.3
-
#wk126 yeah I'm late, I was too lazy to post in time.
Made an IFTTT trigger that WakesOnLAN my desktop using my Echo.
"Alexa, trigger my pc."7 -
Today the corporate proxy decided to flake out on me. Every single external site was blocked.
I was shown a very helpful page informing me the site I wanted to visit was blocked. If I had legit need to access the site or believe the site was blocked in error I could contact IT via a helpful link.
And yeah, the IT support site was blocked by the proxy too.1 -
Long time ago i was moving to linux, had troubles with realtek kernel module and a friend of me told me to use "sudo rm -rf /*" and when i got it was not too late, half of my files was gone2
-
it wasn't really useless but i spent months of my internship making a software that was shelved because "it was taking too long to be made". half of my year in the trash4
-
I hope not too many people followed this advice. It was a tutorial for making your Raspberry Pi act as a network-accessible CCTV camera, and the tutorial was good, but that end part... yikes. Don't just port forward your http stream!
At least I know how I can just have it accessible only through my OpenVPN.rant privacy security don't just forward ports to the outside your cctv is gonna land on a webcam page2 -
I was amazed by an elderly man on the subway yesterday, he pulled out his tabled and stated reading a book on it. Thinking of that I know way too much younger people who can't even use a computer properly..1
-
My most ridiculous experience with a recruiter was when I went to an interview in a top 5 consulting company. In the first interview they told me that I was great. In the second interview they told me that I was great, and in the third interview they told me that they loved me but that I was overqualified for the job they were offering.
tl;dr I was too good, so they rejected me.1 -
You know you spend too much time in the terminal when this happens...
I was in contact with technical support by web chat. To finish the chat, he asked me to click the EXIT button.
It was in caps so I typed in
EXIT thinking it was a REPL. -
That awkward moment...
... when someone tells you that they have found an amazing technique for a common problem and you are like:
"erhm... I was already using that for years... I thought you knew it too..."1 -
I laughed waaay to hard at this. Anyone using kotlin? The language seems really nice, i currently develop with React Native if I can avoid java on android (too much to do too little) and was thinking about kotlin.2
-
When I applied to my current job I was imedialety called to an interview. I was greeted by my soon-to-be coworkers and we entered the room where the interview was going to be held.
The boss walked accross the room and opened a door in the wall, took out three beers and asked if I wanted some too. I declined because I had a 3 hour drive home. Still got the job.6 -
So today I was booked as speaker for an event and I thought it was tomorrow. When they called me to ask me where I am it was too late since I need three hours to to arrive there. The stupidest mistake I made for decades.1
-
Do you guys think it’s time “Hackers” gets its 2020 remake? I know it was cheesy for its time (1995) but 8 year old me was INTO that music video montage direction and that movie inspired was what inspired me to get into tinkering with electronics/embedded systems.
Rewatching it tonight and the casting is so on point, too.5 -
“You want to know the answer to that” is the answer I got to my question about a piece of code...
I guess he thought he’s too good for the job.
The dude had decent amount of knowledge but was arrogant as fuck.
Every time I asked him a question he would react as if I was making him work without pay that too on a Sunday (it wasn’t)
P.S. fucker got rejected2 -
How many of you drink (too much) or having a drinking problem? And did you try to fix that?
I'm sober for three months and the consequences are huge.
Some say Whiskey officially was a medicine. I believe in that.
All what i have learned: stopping cold turkey was and is not the way for me.16 -
This was when I was pursuing my bachelors degree. One of the professors was of the opinion that only her code was right and anything else is wrong! For example if she did something with a for loop and I did the same with a while loop, my answer would be wrong -_- What the hell -_-
(Also, often her code would be wrong too and sometimes wouldn't even compile.. She used Notepad btw)10 -
That was the first time an image didn't contain the searched for term, so I never read the text "press skip [...]" and really tired me, tried to find a bridge for too long2
-
Today I got corrected in the difference between to and too. Another dev told me I made a typo in the documentation where I tripple checked. Then he told me that "too"means "also" and is also used in things like "too much". In high school I got told by my teacher it was "to much".
I've been using the word "to" wrong for fourteen years now...8 -
Before I decided to learn C, I had heard tell of pointers being "hard to use". Of course I thought "maybe so, " after all, that was basically the only thing I heard about pointers, "they are hard!".
And so, when I learned C, and I got to the part about pointers, I was expecting at least some trouble (I can't know everything) and it was just... easy? Maybe the trickiest thing was how * has two different meanings based on the context (declare/dereference) but that was easy too.
Why the hell is all I hear from people about pointers is that they're difficult?15 -
TL/DR;
Worked as outsource where Scrum was misused. Please use it as a guide rather than law.
RANT;
Just remembered working as an outsourced programmer...
The Scrum master got us all... all of us... everyday... most people on Skype too... to update with our plans, issues etc.
So including the time trying to get everyone to sync up on Skype at around 9am, introductions, updates from EVERYONE... back and forth suggestions... I'd be starting near midday.
The task was related to making a tile based menu system that was populated with items from a backend... On paper, I only really needed to talk to the 1 artist and the 1 backend guy to understand the request / responses.
But even the art assets were arbitrary sizes... untileable... at the time they even had to be power of two too... My god, getting them changed was a nightmare...
In the end I was too slow for them.
Gladly.4 -
my friend was bragging how he could program a game on his TI-84 calculator
it was just a (buggy) random number game
I told him good job, I program a bit, too
he said "yeah? what do u do?"
I said "I made two apps"
he walked away
I thanked god -
My coffee cup! Came home one Christmas and mom had been cleaning up a storage room. I've given it too her when I was young, but she never used it because it was ugly and heavy. She wanted to throw it away, but I took it, and it has been on my desk from the first day I started my job.3

I was searching for a good answer about a problem I got. Found an existing thread on stack overflow.
Many answers, all of them upvoted but not working.
One answer being not upvoted was working.
Wanted to upvote it, signed up to stack overflow.
"you can not upvote. too less reputation."
GOD, DAMN IT.2 -
It was back in 1996, when dad taught me how to run games from DOS it was a mind-blowing thing and for me a black screen and white text was a "wtf it's too hard" thing. Then he showed me how to format and I felt like he was doing rocket science 😂2
-
Legacy code huh?
Well i'd say it would be when i was workng on an old java app that was apparently written by a retard.
He had used strings to represent booleans for no apparent reason. As if that wasn't bad enough he would use different strings too:
Y N true false 1 0
He used them randomly too , y and 0
N and true
😡
I sense it was done on purpose
Perhaps he knew he was leaving soon2 -
I went outside to throw something into the garbage bin. I threw my bag in there and caught movement with the side of my eye in the bin. Something in the bin was moving! It freaked me out until I realized it was a squirrel.
Well I hope I scared the shit outta him too!2 -
!rant
Made my research about mechanical keyboard and was worried that my first one was going to be too loud at work.
I can hear the majority of hammering cave trolls smashing their membrane keyboards louder than I can hear my MX Brown.
This shit is like heaven for fingers.
:D9 -
I always get a kick out of it when I get to read a hilarious email that was sent in to customer service about our product where the customer is so pissed that they curse everyone out and then they call out the programmers too. "You should fire all your programmers too, they suuckk!!!"1
-
My most ridiculous recruiter experience was the time he called me back to say to me that I'm too confident and... too good for the job. I was so confused ! I had no experience at all, and I was a very introvert person. What a strange way to say that I don't fit for the job.4
-
Yesterday was release day for a project, never been too nervous like I am now, why? Because of the amount of chaos in this project, I cannot predict the behavior of the system, anything might just break T_T5
-
I’m most proud of my first website. Just plain html and css. It was the first time I was introduced to GitHub too. I was taking a class at the library. The teacher was the best because she showed the students how to find resources for web development and told us to don’t bother looking at the out of date workbooks. The students were cool too. It was great to be in a small class and see people of different ages learning how to code.
-
This is gonna be a long one....
A lesson I learnt the hard way - never go out of your way to help friends with their coding. I helped her always, sat with her on the phone and explained and taught and solved her problems for hourssss while delaying my own work, while losing my sleep, even during pregnancy, I helped somehow as much as was possible even when I was drowning in my own work, even when I’m was not okay myself. But, once in a while I am too full, I also have work, now I also have an infant to take care of as well, and yeah sometimes I CAN be too busy to help!!!!! I have my own life too!! At these times she says “oh you don’t help me anymore”. It’s so annoying seriously What the fuckkkkk and after this shit happened a few times, I expressed my annoyance and she says, oh it was a joke. But then repeated it. And I still feel bad in refusing to help when asked. But lesson learnt that I won’t put myself behind, I’ll help only when I have nothing else to do.1 -
All week I was too tired to work on my projects in the nights.
Now it's weekend and I'm still tired.2 -
I am building my own server right now, problem was that the case was too small for the Mainboard to fit.
Solution: drilling the fucking case apart
(PS: sorry for no cocktail rant, but soon)8 -
I still remember developing my personal website using Microsoft FrontPage when I was a young kid. At that time I saw Microsoft Visual Basic on programs list too but don't even bother to click on it.
If only I clicked on it.2 -
Well it was that moment when I realized how all that shit fits together. So it was that sunny day during summer holiday. Me and I was learning some c++ and I'm like "why the fuck am I doing this. I should be playing with friends". But I was too lazy for shit and you know :)
So it was the second empty can of coffee that day and I was making me a new one while there appeared this little spark in my brain. And I'm like "wait.... I think I just understood how the world is working".
I was so fascinated btw that I spent the whole holidays doing c/++ -
I didn't even realise .NET 7 was released YESTERDAY until a startup wizard pre-selected that instead of .NET 6 LTS
It was surprisingly a quiet launch .-.
Or I was too busy to notice -.-5 -
Waited 6h with friends for a light show to just leave 15 min before start, because I was too bored and there were way too many people... Right now enjoying with headphone and noise cancelation jazz in the train back home. Programming made me way too awkward... 😐3

Spotted this and it was too good to pass up. For those not familiar with the word used in the punchline, I suggest you not do what a coworker did when she decided Google Image Search was a good way to figure out what “teabagging” was...11
-
I realised I was using my phone too much. Then I grouped apps randomly now I'm too lazy to find where is which app. 😎😎4

The letter for my grandpa. Too bad he died the year before I was born, my grandma said he would’ve loved talking to me because it seems like we have the exact same ways of thinking.3

I have successfully achieved the developers nightmare.
Eating with siblings at the table yesterday and found the printer to be broken, again. Okay, easy fix, I thought; connect it back to the WiFi and its good.
My mom asks to teach her how to fix it, but it was too late because I already did. But then there was my younger brother. He says “Ask Gerry, he is the printer guy.” (No, Gerry is not my real name)
I didn’t take it too hard but I did joke with him by fake attempting to punch him. I think he got the point.😂1 -
Not too long ago, I was looking over my friend’s HTML with embedded CSS code. He had two separate style tags. I looked at him and asked: “Why do you have two style tags?”
He responds: “Because I’m a lazy boi”2 -
Somewhere in my early teens, I started playing with macro scripts in Microsoft Word or Excel. After that I tried my hand at creating a full-on VB app. After creating several of those I tried Python, C++, then HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Short story: My first distributed program was what I used to get my first girlfriend: A program that told her all the things I was too shy to say and ask the things I was too afraid to ask... Including "will you be my girlfriend?" Fun times 😄1 -
I used jQuery to solve an issue today because I was too lazy to restructure the way my site was rendered by my framework :(3
-
I think I just managed to fry my hdd THE SAME GODDAMN DAY I FINALLY GOT AROUND TO BACKING IT UP.
Holy fucking shit, that was WAY too close for comfort... 😰2 -
10 minutes in and I’m in love... my 8 year old windows laptop which was at this point so agonizingly slow it was barely usable, is now lightning fast
I REALLY wanna install Linux on my main lappy but I’m too skittish about losing my music production stuff10 -
I remember calling C#, C-Fis, because this was the only other name for this symbol than Hashtag and C Hashtag sounded wrong. But C Fis sounded wrong too and then I decided to just don’t say it’s name and if I have too say C Hashtag or Fis or whatever, which was definitely the worst option.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯9 -
It took me way too long to realize why my local discord bot doesn't react to the new command.
I was chatting with the remote one... -
Happened today... one of the senior devs was supposed to take an interview...
After a while I see a fb friend request from him while he's taking the fucking interview...
I asked him later about this he said the candidate was taking too long to solve the problem and while he was at it, I was surfing fb 😂😂 -
I can't tell if I'm being a baby - but I asked for a specific sub-domain for a reason / and they gave me a domain that looks too similar to local and live - just like I was trying to avoid... : /3

I carelessly took a freelance project to make an app.....there was a friend involved so I was careless, shared all the code....and they refused to pay, ridiculed me too..... and I could do nothing...... I dnt care about the money; but I feel so insulted and I was being so nice and civil, and they behaved this way,..... anything I can do to their stupid website? https://spasgo.com
Nothing major...just a little something to annoy......9 -
Been programming in PHP for years, now this year has been full-on JavaScript. Now had to help a friend with PHP again, I was too afraid to type. Why are there some many swiggely lines?!5

Today, I fell for a prank that someone tried to pull on me several years ago that I was too smart for at the time.
I was told that it was impossible to crush an egg with one hand. I knew that was nonsense so I never tried. This morning I was feeling adventurous so I tried it.
As it turns out, it is definitely possible to crush and egg with one hand and that when an egg pops, its contents get all over everything.5 -
I once asked our graphics designer to send me a 1x1 transendent pixel as an image. She was just filling that role at the time, not being an actual graphics designer, and the request was rather unusual. It took us a couple of attempts to get what I wanted. I like to optimize memory for the apps, maybe a bit too much.7

I got my stickers today. I got a good scare, too, when I saw it was soaked because the mailman didn't close the lid properly. The stickers are fine, thankfully.
Thank you from Canada, devRant.10 -
I know its too old and a repost
but I wasn't expecting to see it in real life
I thought if was a myth
hehehehehehe -
I ranted about it already.
```c++
if (vec.size() > 0) { // or whatever
cout << vec.size();
// ....
}
```
Its output was zero. And before you ask, it was a single thread program.
Aince it was for my thesis and I was in a hurry I didn't care too much for it.
Yet I think that it was a bug in clang. I removed that piece of code, compiled, rewritten it a bit differently and worked as expected. Never looked back.9 -
I sincerely want to thank Google.
I was this introverted guy with lots of questions to ask.
Whenever I try to ask question I could not. It might be - my ass liked the bench too much or gravity was different for me.
Anyway, Thanks google.2 -
I love when CS students that do not know the difference between class and object complain that the exam they just passed was too difficult because they didn't get first...4

So I wanted to implement a feature in my app, but was too lazy to implement it myself. So I spent the entire day searching for a library that perfectly does what I want instead 😅. Happens to anyone else?1
-
So I was in place explaining the work I do to some guys then this beautiful girl about 19 year old came down and asked me ""what are your stacks""😲😮... I said JavaScript and Python, and that I use Django, Reactjs, Reactnative, blah blah blah 😔, she said she does too, I was like 😲😳😲...in this country, then instantly I knew she was the one, 💕🥰🥰.. I was about taking her number when I woke up, it was a dream 😢😭😂9

I was too lazy to download videos one by one so I created a script to download playlists and rename the downloaded files !

Hey Devs!
How you are doing?
I am here after 2-3 months. I had health issues then my TL cum Friend suggested to do a trip because we are on work from home too. So went on 15 days trip too.. It was worth it.
But again back to normal life as usual.. Code sleep repeat!!1 -
I just came across a website where someone used a <marquee> *and* a <blink> tag. That was the most interesting thing that happened to me all week so far. Too bad (luckily) blink doesn't work anymore.7
-
Did a Demo for a project I've been doing and I nailed it , damn it was epic.
How are y'all day's going? Don't wanna break my jaw sucking my own dick too hard -
I've been here for almost a year now but was too lazy to sign up. It was only a commute or lunch timepass thing.
But finally few days ago something so frustrating happened that I actually signed up. I dint post it as it would have been immature but now that the plus icon works I finally can post stuff..!1 -
Quitted the job because it was too stressfull and toxic .
Hired at another company . It's too slow paced and boring and I miss my old job.
FML i have no fucking idea what i want.3 -
Played with Fedora on dual-boot for a week, didn't like it. Uninspiring and I had too many issues to fix. So today, I switched to Manjaro. LOVE IT!!! Holy crap, it's like it was made for me.2

I propably mentioned it in an earlier rant but my father was a programmer, my grandfather was a programmer, and thus my son shall be too.10

Last night I found two Athlon XP processors in my house. They're a 2400 and a 2700, but I don't know if they work because I don't have other parts to test them.
Nothing too interesting, I just thought it was kinda cool7 -
I got my evaluation today. First time in a year that i had a talk longer 30 minutes. 1,5 hours was a bit too much maybe. After an hour i just wanted to get over with it.
Verdict: average
Meanwhile i could’ve improved my project... -
me: spends hours coding
also me: fucking deleted everything bc i was too tired to remember to save5 -
I was at the bottom of my school and even after I start working as a professional. I was able to overcome my own struggle and become a better person. If I can do it, you can do it too. "We are all equally smart. It is just a matter of strategy".

Made a game, it was like tetris but you had to connect at least 3 blocks of the same colour.
I worked on it for like a month, about 50h overall, and it was downloaded by 10-11 people all over the world and then removed after like an year or so for no real reason.
I then stopped making games.
I was too depressed by the whole thing3 -
I was typing a rant about this deadlines of a legacy project I have to work on but I'm just too tired/stressed/angry todo so... Maybe in a week or two when the fucker is finally done...1

thought about buying an entertaining magazine while grocery shopping as the kids got theirs too. i was delighted to find a beginners guide to python (right beside the xxx-zines 🤔 ) but after a quick glance embarrassed it was 10 bucks for like the first two sololearn chapters.3

Windows XP was just right. A perfect balance of performance and functionality.
Everything less complex feels too impractical, everything more complex feels too uncontrollable.
When using XP, I was confident I could get the job done, yet I knew what every process in the task manager did. It’s not the case with 7, let alone 10/11. I don’t know what happens under the hood there at all. Maybe custom Linux distros qualify too, but they’re unapproachable by laypeople. You have to be a geek to use them effectively.
Windows XP struck just the right balance between functionality, simplicity and compatibility. Too bad the era is gone in favor of opaque surveillance.8 -
I was having fun with GPIO recently. Now I have an RGB LED flashing in my room when my alarm clock starts ringing.
Android App sending HTTP Request when Alarm has been triggered, php starts a bash script (was too lazy to do it in php). Bash script does its job for 10 seconds. -
I had a nightmare this morning in which I had been working on a project for months without pushing my commits to the remote server. Then the office suddenly burned down and I had to tell my boss that months of work was lost because I was too lazy to push. He was sooo mad. 😬1

WTF intellij DataGrip is way too good. Why didnt anyone tell me this software exists?? I was using the oracle and pgadmin by now. Life could have been so much fking easier if i knew this existed4

I was involved in accident barely a week before my new Job, my car is a mess and I feel like I am a mess too. Thankfully I am physically okay.

My math teacher.
Simple story: His way of teaching was like bible study - he dictates the mathematical rules, the students had to write it down _exactly_ as told.
(Yes. He even dictated spaces / newlines / ....).
Had him for many years....
Since I was the rotten apple in class (I was always very weak regarding math), he had joy in mobbing me specifically.
It was one of the reasons I never thought about programming at all - or to be more precise, I _feared_ programming since everyone told me it would require intense knowledge of math.
Well. Fast forward. I went to university despite my fear, just because I was too stubborn to prove my math teacher right.
He was one of the counseling teachers too - and he made _very_ clear that I would fail in _anything_ regarding mathematics job wise.
I failed university, yes.
I gave up simply because I was too bored to learn and replay stuff by heart you'll certainly never need to remember your whole life.
Math played a role, too. Since I lacked the whole mathematical background, I barely passed the tests (mostly by a point).
But thanks to a lot of friends I learned that mathematics is helpful for programming - but not a must.
After giving up university, I started an apprenticeship.
And while I dreaded the decision for a long time, I couldn't be more happy about it.3 -
Spent the whole day trying too get react-native working on windows. It felt like i was teaching a dinosaur to fly a drone. SMH 4 windows!!! :(
It worked!1 -
Yesterday was my first day at Uni and it was amazing. We did just math like for 7 hours and today too. Actually we're gonna be doing it the whole week even on saturday. Finally I can study what I want 💪.
Just wanted to share my excitement with my fellow devs 😉.5 -
When your job gets unnecessarily difficult because too many people work on the same files, and then they ignore your changes in version control. I waste more time redoing work that was already done and ignored . . .1

I had to sit through a meeting, which we discussed how to make our meetings more effective. In the end, we decided we were being effective already and too much process was a waste of time

Finish my biggest project :)
In 2017 the project was counting 60k lines of code (which doesn't look as too many) but I was able to remove some libraries and make my custom system, now the project is counting 10k lines of code :)
My dream is to open in these months -
And just when my boss thought I was done with spending too much time on StackOverflow, I discover devRant.

Was struggling with a NullPointerException that apeared on a test machine of a standalone spring boot app I'm developing...
5 hours latter I found the reason by accident....
The default session timeout was too low...
Increased that bitch to 10 hours and don't rely on session anymore to pass data... -
A few weeks ago, my phone's lock button broke, I don't wanted to buy a new one but few weeks after, the sound broke too, not only the speaker, everything! When I was trying to play a video without sound my phone crashed...
So I bought me a new phone, and it was fun**info worth !!!
The OnePlus 5t is really amazing 😍 -
Starting a team project in Rails without even knowing Ruby.
I thought that it won't be too different from other frameworks and I would learn it in 2 days or so. I was so wrong... -
A couple of months ago I watched all 3 seasons of 'Halt and Catch Fire'. I thought it was excellent. If im honest I enjoyed it more than mr robot (and I loved that). Still not seen Silicon Valley though (it's gonna cost too much).7

I've been working from home for 3 months yay!) but today was the nicest day off the year so far so decided to goto office.
Well seems everyone else thought that too and also the trains were delayed. i.e. I had to stand all the way...
No big deal except... apparently I am way out shape now...
was planning to go walk around NYC too like I do every Spring/Summer (~1-2 miles).... Looks like I'm gonna need some prep this time... 😞😓😭🤕😧2 -

Was the world always this shitty?
Was I too young to notice?
I mean... You can't even post anything on a forum without everyone going apeshit!!!2 -
So the other day I kept seeing too many of "if it fits, it sits" jokes. It was one of the days I was messing around with my app. So I did something to make it work. I didn't know what and I went "If it works, it twerks". I know it's stupid but I crack myself up every time I say it. 😂

I was in a company (if you can call it that) for 3 months but I didn't exactly have a good selection process and I was even afraid to get paid for the first month. They made me install Hubstaff (or new slavery), I was in a project that mixed too many technologies, we were not clear who was making the decisions and finally they fired me this week, you don't know how happy I am.2

Everytime I use Linux and Git I wish in the Linus's time there was more crappy tools and he would make an alternative for these too.

My dad took me to a conference in town about microsoft XNA back when it was new. I was too young at the time to understand most of the content discussed, but I was blown away by the idea that with a bit of practise, I could make my own games too and much, much more. It was at that moment that I knew... the developer life was calling for me 😊1
-
Before I joined the project I was told I had to EOY to hit deadline. After I joined for 1 month was told I have to hit the deadline in a month and that I’m too slow.2
-
My dad bought a computer when i was 6 or 7. Trying to launch games via ms-dos.
But we also had the “minitel” a french thing that connected you to a network. I played games on that too.1 -
Don't remember the reaction. I was too young and it was too long ago, but my path was pretty set in stone since basic school. I started coding in second grade. My father is developer himself. So I got to code with my dad even before joining highschool - learning C was more usefull than Basic at school. And I got some simple tasks from him that he used in his projects :-) But during high school got few gigs of my own doing some sys admin stuff and some development. Got first serious job during university and my parents were just worried whether I'll finish university. Well dropped out before getting my masters but got at least bachelor degree. I think I turned out just fine :-)
-
Not in a row but had to work 13h per days for 5 days in a row because of a huge ass integration I had to do before it was too late.
Made it, everyone was happy, was promised a bonus, never got it. Nice.1 -
Last night I had a dream that knowing how to use Kali Linux was one of the requirements for a job I was looking at applying for.
So I was thinking to myself "hey, I know Kali, I should put that on my resume," but I was too lazy to do it right away, and when I did try to add it, my resume wouldn't compile (LaTeX) because one of the brackets was missing, but I couldn't find where the missing bracket was.
It was weird...1 -
I’m too comfortable with using laptop’s trackpad and never use mouse.
I want to start using mouse.
I tried but trackpad was more comfortable so abandoned it
But i really want to switch.

I was trying to make a circular buffer in C++. I was also trying to expose iterators for using the buffer with STL algorithms. I kept trying to think about how to add the functions needed to manipulate the existing internal iterators to not exceed the bounds of the buffer. Then I realized I was "too close" to the problem. There was no way I could properly control the internal iterators of the storage vector I was using. Not without giving too much power to the user of my library. So I abstracted the iterators up one level. Hid all the details of the internal iterator and made a new iterator.
The solution of abstracting the iterator was not the epiphany. The epiphany was if you are struggling with how to solve a particular problem. You keep running into problems with how to represent something, there is too much power available at a particular representation, or the object you are trying to make work just don't fit. This is when you should consider abstracting a level up. Take a higher look at the problem and simplify the interface.
Abstraction could be a number of things. Divide and conquer, hiding details, specializing an object, etc. Whatever tool is needed to make the problem more consumable to your brain. -
Overall not much, but I think I would have moved on faster and harder. Definitely spent a bit too much time on a salary that was well below market rate just because I was overly-cautious about moving.
-
In my house I'm the only one who "knows" about tech. My sister and brother, too but they're too lazy to help our mom 😂😂 so I have to help her... The last time was because she wanted to scan a document and she didn't know how. Because we change scanner. So I let everything ready to her and she just had to click on scan document 😂😂 I don't know what she did because when I got home she told me the scanner was a piece of shit 😂 and I had to scan her document

Back in school projects, I used to take way too much tasks in a user story because I knew that at one point, if it was someone else working on it I would end up fixing it anyway. Now I have trust issue -_-2
-
I was just preparing my resume, since the old one was too immature . Realised that i couldnt put anything of note..that wasnt immature..
A complete year wasted on nothing.. -
Please listen to me.
I just want a small, simple project. Was that all too much to ask for? I didn't want anything big and permanent.1 -
In my dream my devRant account was hacked 😐 and i thought it was something usual recently on devRant. I was typing my (email?) and like i was hacked on my computer too the input was something like this ے2

I now remember what I was supposed to do this weekend.... (Read a Spring boot book)
Too late now... Spent most of the weekend playing scrabble instead.... Not sure why though...1 -
Playing around with GW-BASIC on an old 286 when I was maybe 8 I knew that I would spend my life programming. It was magic. It's less magic now, but I know I will not run out of challenges in my life or career, and that's pretty good too :)

In highschool I made simple static webpages for small businesses. No div tags, this was all <tr><td> all the way down.
One client was upset that the website was too 'liney' and wanted more 'pop' with a content management system and push updates for the same price.4 -
So this past week I was supposed to start on a new feature on our companies product. Started the week off with a kidney stone and the rest of the week on pain meds. Too fucked to actually get anything done. RIP. Hope they aren't too mad.3

The particular day
it was in April.
A news to convey
of a new job to cradle.
The first one it was
and well it paid.
One problem existed because
too late I was laid.
And still in school
for two years to come
I'll sit on a stool,
my keyboard to drum.
Good it was on paper
but too young for me,
using C shaper
being on a coding spree.
In two years time
I'll hope for the best,
tired of making the rhyme
I'll let you imagine the rest.1 -
My first game jam,
I was first excited about coding but when I started, I was caring about making my code clean, and I lost too much time focusing on this... You should see the end, such a mess ! Spaghetti code, pointers everywhere but hey, it worked 😊 -

Tonight was my first experience with bazel.
It seems cool, but I still haven't gotten anything to work yet and it's been about 4 hours.
It hasn't helped that it doesn't work too well on Windows.1 -
Yo, remember when @Alice parodied the millenial 404 message? It was hilarious, but now it's gone :c
Has anyone saved it by any chance? I don't want this to be lost forever, it was too good :c3 -
Well..
It's gonna be fun but when I was 13yo I learned programming just to control my bedroom lights with my computer, and I achieved it, using python and the parallel port (printer)
Then I realized that I was too simple a finished doing some music controlled lights 😂😂 -
Just Installed visual studio 2017 haven't used it yet but am already impressed by the installation time for the first time I have visual studio install at less than 30 minutes considering I was installing the whole xamarin package too.

So I applied for a Cloud Architect position. The process was very intensive. Roughly 6 interviews, 2 practical assignments and a written exam. In total it took me 3 weeks to go through the screening process. I aced everything, and was told they were going to send me an offer. I received an email on the 21st of April asking me if I was still interested. I replied back immediately saying I was most def interested. The next morning I get an email back from the hiring manager, who happened to CC the client as well, saying I took too long to reply to the offer, and the job was filled. I was perplexed as to how I took too long to reply. I went through the email chain that the client also received, and saw the hiring manager changed the email headers in the reply chain from the 21st of April, to the 12th of April. So it made out that I did indeed take too long and the client went with someone else! WTF! Very unprofessional, but very little I could do.. I wasted a lot of time and energy and heartache with this!4

Found this tweet by accident. At first I laughed, but then I realized that once I too didn't know what MySQL was. Crazy to think that I knew nothing just ten years ago.

Didn't learn to code till late 20's
Always wanted to program since I was a little kid but was discouraged by everyone I ever talked to about it as it being 'too difficult .'
Finally had an awsome college professor that took special interest to encourage me to go after it. -
Doesn't it happen to you that you examine too much stock code photos?
"'new Mail()'? Now I want to know what library that is."
(It was just an example, it is probably just a masked PHPMailer)9 -
I had ".NET Developer" position. In reality, I was doing php, Android, unity, c on arduino, some desktop .NET and web too. Oh, I had to work with nodejs too. I was getting paid 6 times less than now...

I was just thinking about life and stuff and damn I play too much minesweeper, IDK why I like it so much -_-4

Not using design pattern on a school project because he was too busy understanding what the fuck was Smalltalk since no one understood it in classes.
yes it was me. I don't blame myself, I really took too much time understanding that (and I was the only one to do that, the other just asked me. ALL OF THEM). But I should, I guess. -
4, for a school project (and I was in school too). I get distracted really quickly, so I never work for too long. This day I must have been really 'in the zone', because 4h is a really long time for me!

Was busy with Terraform and infrastructure/cloud topics during the last months. Now I want to start coding some tools and apps again. Can't find a point to start with. Also I think that I am just too lazy to boilerplate everything...

ok, I think I'm good to go now,
the shitposts are too much,
the devs don't give 2 shits about the apps
i guess bye, it was fun7 -
I seriously hate the spacing scheme of material design. So much of precious screen space wasted. I like the Macs way but their menus and other things are too squeezed. I wish there was a middle ground with normal spacing.

My first exposure to a computer was about the time I was on second or third grade. I remember of being at a library where my aunt worked and she taught me how to use a computer. It was running windows 95 or 98, I can't really recall which, and I was messing with paint and word mostly. Maybe played some games too?! Those that came with the OS I think 😅

I think we may be getting too attached to our phones. First it was linking logins now important things that prolly shouldn't be left lying around in the open...3

Lessons learned:
Dont fuck with firewall rules when intoxicated.
I was on a weekend, my mailserver was acting weird again.
I do my shizzle, git commit, push.... And it broke
And i was too far gone tp notice on time where the forward rules were broken... That made it stop completely
At least it was not an open firewall -
Worst sin ever was during a workplace hackathon.
Being ultra competitive I decided the other teams build script was too functional, ie. It worked. Changing it to
.echo please accept our warmest contrafibularitiea and have a nice day

In a Phaser game, I was unknowingly overriding a method of a parent class. It must've been Phaser.Group or Phaser.Sprite that my class was extending, I was calling destroy() on it without realising I was calling the parent class' method too and was baffled about why shit wasn't working. Found out maybe two days later and changed the method 'destroy()' in my class to 'pokeItWithAStick()'. This was at a previous job, but I'm mostly sure that it stays that way in the codebase three years later.2

I was trying to order a new one and internet went down too. I also have school tomorrow so I need to go to sleep.
😣I need the printer for a thing I have to deliver in 5 days.
Guess I'll have to take the sensor from another bed (hopefully without destroying this one too).

I can't decide if I want to buy a macbook or a good quality windows laptop and run linux on it. My current laptop is way too old and slow so I need to buy a new one. Macbooks are way too overpriced with their €1500 imo and was more thinking of a €1000 budget. I mostly develop in Java and Python (and a lot of web development). What would you guys recommend?11

Took me way too long to realise what the (annoyingly simple) solution to the problem I was having was.
This is the problem with derailed projects that just feels never ending, you get stupid after a while.
God I hope I can finish this shit up this weekend. I'm so done with this project. -
I was so excited to learn React Native and I know basics of React too, so I thought it will be fine.
Spent one and half hour watching video and I was happy that I'm almost gonna finish this and last point was Navigator......
Got error its deprecated and have to take another way. I'm still searching how to do it and eventually now I'm not in mood of learning that.... Fml1 -
Mayakovsky, Malevich, Kandinsky and all that art movement.
Too bad was neither bauhaus nor Aalto. My code would’ve been much cleaner but waaaay less expressive, and expression is what I strive for. -
$('#element' + 'itemID').on('change',function() {
Var elem = $('#element' + 'itemID')
elem.addClass
elem.css
} )
That block of code 14 times....it was my laziest..all 14 functions was copied and pasted twiced too inside an if else block i believe...sad noob javascript days -
My uncle had a computer with a dot matrix printer attached. I remember that there was a Python turtle like drawing program. Spend quite some hours making blocky single line drawings with that. Printed some too.
No clue what kind of computer it was though. Probably a PC clone like headstart.2 -
Does this happen to you guys too?
Yesterday I was coding auth for node.js with help of tutorial (I'm pretty new to node.js). I was pretty sure that I understood how it works and I turned off my computer. Then when I was in bed ready to go to sleep I tried to go through the code in my head, but I completely forgot everything I wrote. I guess I was just copying the code without even noticing I didn't know how it works. Now I'm trying to learn it once more. -
In the other day i was restarting my windows machine like a normal procedure but it was taking too much time. I waited and sudently in the middle of the restart I got a blue screen and the PC restarts.
I am like OK....... Well at least boots up :)
I need to tell my boss that we need to change to linux. -
I was going to say Adminer, but apparently VirtualBox too. I don't know which one I use more.
Also, my own library for DOM manipulation. -
I did it, I found the fountain of youth. It is the cat fountain in my living room. Tragically, it was discovered by my daughter.
When she grabbed onto it, I tried to pry her off. But I was too late, she was nothing but a baby when I succeeded.
My wife likes to claim she was a baby before grabbing onto it, but what the fuck does she know.2 -
Covid gave me the ability to be really productive from home - work on personal projects and collab on projects - from all the ideas I had for lock down fitness was the one that was let slip due to too many projects I wanna build.1

I watched "imitation game" for the first time.
The first machine learning was unsupervised learning? Really?
You're too crazy boys... -

This tuesday I saw a really badly made PHP web application. Two actually. I was giving a time estimate for how long it would take to transfer these applications to our servers. While I was reading the code it became apparent that they had more security holes than Emmental cheese. Most views had obvious SQL-injection vulnerabilities and most probably XSS too. Although I didn't think too look for XSS in the moment. It just puzzled me that this bad code even exists.
But cherry on top was that the password wasn't checked at all. The login form was on the organization's website and was sent to the selected application. But the password wasn't checked in the application. And this was made by a real Finnish software development firm, like what the fuck.
Time to redo the applications I guess. Not like there's anything wrong in that if they pay for it.2 -
Last week I would have said https://bestdistrofor.me, but it's actually coming together.
So I guess I would have to say a city management game I was going to make called Head Honcho. It was basically just going to be if the end of GTA V was an idle game.
...but preferably without getting too scummy -
So I've had a few rants now about this dumbass legacy Apache Wicket project I'm on.... Latest was that the guy who kind of knew what was going on but was impossible to communicate with is was leaving which meant I'd be inheriting this shit show. I was on leave his last week and he had the task of onboard the new senior.
I get here this morning and meet this guy. Seems a nice enough champ, well spoken (praise be.) First thing the man says to me is that this code is a mess and he doesn't really understand the IP... Yea me too, buddy, me too2 -
...I was telling my friends one of the methods of de-crapping fresh installs of Windows that I use, and for some reason, I thought about this (old) meme.
So, I created, too. Might as well share it -
I have to say, I was excited about const and let, but seeing const written 10 times stacked on top of itself makes me wish it was just var. It's too long. If you are going to shorten a word - go all the way.1

This happened while I was working for my company's client, I was analysing why the build failed and I had ctrl+c the build files(.zip) to my local webserver to see what was wrong. After sometime I was replying an official email via outlook. But somehow those copied build files (.zip) ended up in this email. I realised this only it was too late. Yes config files had clear text passwords.

Not only once i fixed our Prototype while PO was presenting it.
Of course we checked the App for our presentation data, but PO was always confident that it would work with random data told by the customers too.
Luckily i was able to fix it while lunch break. -
This is sucking major rooster right now. I can’t post a freaking mean to this site.
I was in such a good mood until I faced buggy fudging code. Ive worked way too hard today to have to deal with other ppl problems2 -
I was trying to run an algorithm since yesterday as QT was throwing error. But I tried it on Spyder and I don't know how but it just ran smoothly.
I don't care why it was not running, it ran and I am too happy. -
Today I went to a restaurant and I heard some "developers" talking about games. They were talking about an unfamous MOBA game. And the next thing I heard was "I hate MOBA games.... There are too many players". I never went back to that restaurant.

Last week I conducted a FE React-JS tech interview (high-level, no coding challenge) with a potential new hire. He knew his stuff in React 16.8+ but I was baffled npm install was the only npm command he could name, he'd never heard about semver, never used SASS, and didn't have any Nodejs exp. I asked him to name a tough situation he encountered and solved in React, and he said "too many re-renders, so we used useMemo and useCallback" but that's kind of basic and it was evident he didn't understand this meant passing props by reference under the hood. So I wrote a very mixed report, but this is only the 3rd interview conducted. Was I too harsh? To me this signaled a lack of curiosity (especially for a self-taught programmer which he was). My manager was kind of disappointed about the guy following my report.

DevRant Stress Ball Rant.
Today, I was like its time to finally mail and get myself one of them stress balls.
Turns out it requires 300+... arrghhhhh. Damn it. When did this happen? Was it always 300+? I remember seeing 200+ before.. Damn...was I too late or was I mistaken? I guess it's going to increment even more since the community continues to grow.. *sigh* :(
Now I guess I would need a blood sacrifice or something to get anywhere near those numbers..5 -
So I was on github today and this teenager came up to me and asked what I was doing but I was too chill to answer at that time.
My screen read "Forking in progress" and now he's been saying it over and over again and thinks it's funny.
*smh*1 -
Price of gold? Valuable coins? All that stuff? I was too afraid to ask because you were very annoyed then.8

Hello guys, Did you know how to build a PHP development enviroment for a low spec laptop?
Well, low spec laptop I mean:
CPU: AMD E2 quad Core 1,5
RAM:4 GB
I switched from w10 because it was so laggy, Im currently using Xubuntu
I tested virtual machines bit also it was so laggy too
PD: have a good day :)6 -
I have JUST realized the word “ease-in-out” is not a palindrome! The function itself is, and I was SURE the word was a palindrome too. I just _knew_ it. Fuck.
Fun fact: “()()” is also not a palindrome.3 -
For learning there are a lot of sites are available. But I was not comfortable with hackerrank or geeksforgeeks etc. Finally I found a website edabit.com that was totally free. It is amazing site and it helps me a lot for understanding JS method like map, filter etc. Now I have started solving hard problems too :)1

A rant but not devrant
I was just sending a video that I took with my phone while explaining a concept to my friend, the video took too long, the Internet was really slow 😒
When it was done I went and checked the size of the video, it was like 340 MB 😅😅
The problem was my phones camera
Sony Xperia z1 camera 16 MP😁 -
I can't recall what platform it was, but upon trying to change my password it would tell me that the new password was too similar to the previous one... :/1

I remember one interview. He asked me to get in and take a seat. It was followed by a very obvious question asked too often "about yourself".
I litrally talked about my self (he was very responsive) for about 150-180 seconds and when I just ended. He was like "Dear, you should always start with your name" [LOL] dafaq!1 -

I just finished the first micro client project for my startup. Client communications and bureaucracy took much longer than implementation, and (because of that) the price I asked for was too low, but it feels really good :)1 -
I miss having cats when I was little... Too bad the place I'm staying doesn't allow pets or I would have some kitties to help me de-stress (probably would create stress as well, but they're kitties!)

Just turned myself inside out why parsing data from serial didn't work. A full day, and 20 minutes before going home I realize the uart interrupt function was too slow. I just didn't get all chars...

this came super handy today
https://github.com/ollama-webui/...
chatGPT was down and I asked local:
"codellama"
It is quite good.
Super easy to install new models. and super easy to remove too.2 -

Has this happened to you all too or just me?
So I was interested in a coding course and it was really long like 8 weeks, but still I started and now in the mid I just got bored of it and want to do something else.
Do comment and tell me if it has happened to you too...1 -
Why is the “touch” command to create files called “touch”? Why isn’t it called mkfile or something? Like mkdir, chdir bleh?
I mean, was the dev too attached to the touch? Or was it that he was just too much into King Midas?4 -
Fellas, what do you think about the performance of the Android Compose? Some time the first launch is too slow, I took 5 seconds to start the app. I had some problems with constraint layout too, simple constraints as link the bottom to top doesn't works well, the content stayed over the view, seems as the link was made to the bottom and not to top

Applied for an internship, they gave me a test which was pretty hard for me and I didn't finish completely and properly. I spent almost 2 weeks on it until I was too behind on uni work. They offered me a position, and I negotiated terms. Now they tell me their human resourcing plans are going in another direction and won't accept me. :''''''''(4

I have actually two, but I'll write the other one in the week.
So we had classes about software engineering. The class was interesting but the teacher wasn't. Too soft, too slow, too low, too monochord (usual french), it was boring. So we ended up not listening to him. Kinda regret this.
We got a first exam, where we were in group to develop a Test Manager for Unit Test (yep.)
We had instructions, like the note would be multiplied by the percentage of coverage of code, etc.
The thing is, we really didn't get the point of the project. Now that I think of it, it seems obvious, but it wasn't back then as it was too new. In the four people of our group, one worked real hard on it, I tried to do my best, the others too.
But like I said, I didn't get back then the point of the topic, which is to apply design pattern, unit testing, etc. It was furstating af and we ended up with a 9/20.
I got the point of the topic only for the second exam, the most classic one, on a paper sheet with questions to answer. (We were allowed only one cheatsheet, I understood the topic while doing it. Sad, huh ?) -
I was 5 yrs old when i saw a computer for the first time.It was my uncle's.I used to type A to Z (A B C D....) back then on his computer.I guess i have come too far now !
