People are worried that AI will replace them in their jobs.
But guys.
We are still using php.
I think we are safe for the next 200 years.18 -
Found this guy at my school who was trying to impress n00bs around the place by using Inspect Element in Chrome to change the content of webpages. He was claiming that he hacked the website 😂😂😂 I'm still crying14
-
Just realized I'm using an almost decade old Acer aspire laptop for programming. And its still useful because Linux.18
-
I just sent an automated email titled "Gary is a Dinosaur!" to a lot of humourless clients because the ancient application I was testing assumed I was in the production environment. 🙃
Lesson to self: stop using bogus names in testing.
Still, it could've been a lot worse... 😂9 -
About six months ago I decided I wanted to learn to write a neural network from the ground up, using only the C++ standard lib. Had to learn some linear algebra, multivariable calc and a dash of wizardry.
The mathematics of neural networks is still one of the coolest things I've ever learnt. It still marvels me that you can make a specialized mini-brain out of nothing but numbers.17 -
I don't get why people are still using WinRAR. I discovered 7-zip years ago and while it's very minimalistic, open source and ad-free (also without any annoying "buy me now" shit), there has never been an archive I couldn't open using it.11

After 2 years of working as a Linux admin, and over 6 years of using Linux as my only OS, I left my job, installed Windows and started a new, better paying and more perspective carrier as a .Net developer ... It's been 6 months, and I still miss the terminal ... I've been trying to get over it by using Babun and the Linux subsystem for Windows ... The thing is ... even though they are great, they are not as good as native stuff and the knowledge that it's not the real deal still haunts me :(
TL;DR: Left Linux 6 months ago ... still miss it to this day ... doubt I will ever get over it :( Feels bad guys22 -
*Logs out of devRant to be productive.*
*Still recieves notifications even though I logged out."
*Fails to be productive for the entire day.*
It's almost 10 pm and I still didn't do any homework. I guess I'm going to disable devRant using clearlock again. :(3 -
Seeing someone prototype a 3D game with complex lighting using OpenGL in a 15 minute video (It was sped up about 4x but, still, fuck me)
Using c. Not c++.
He also did 3D graphics in BASIC from scratch to explain how they work, generally.15 -
Been using the same language for 5 years... still Googles basic functions to remember the arguments.12
-
Apparently thousands of our users are still using IE 6. While average users spend ~12 minutes on our site, they spend ~20 minutes.5
-
If I changed girlfriends as often as I changed JavaScript libraries, I'd still be looking for a girlfriend.
Cuz I try and avoid using JavaScript.7 -
COVID variants should adopt a semantic versioning, rather than using greek alphabetics.
COVID v.19.2.34
COVID V.22.1 Beta (testing in US)
COVID v.22 release 1 (being tested somewhere in London)
COVID v.22 nightly builds (still brewing in China)5 -
Coworkers: "Who still even uses vim? Glad we've got Visual Studio so we don't have to deal with ancient shit tools like that!"
Me: "Psh, yeah, total losers right? Haha!"
**Sheepishly returns to coding using the VsVim extension**8 -
Using Eclipse for java programming.
My program doesn't work... No errors, no warnings, the logic seems good.
A couple of hours of debugging later still nothing.
I close it and open it again, it works, thanks Eclipse.5 -
Random advice: don't get an AI degree. It's as useless as a liberal arts degree considering how most countries are still using stupid systems.23
-
Sometimes I lie awake in a cold sweat, unable to decide if I'm still building my AI, or if it has begun using me to build itself...2
-
Today someone was testing a website for me.
Tester: I've found a bug this button doesn't work
Me: It works. I tested it in Firefox and Chrome.
Tester: I'm using Edge
Me: Oh yeah. Forgot that was even still a thing...7 -
Fucking idiots. How fucking stupid are you? We're in 2016 now, where basically `.motherfuckerslutshitasscunt` has the potential to become a TLD. And you still can't validate a motherfucking *.online email? FUCK YOU. I will NOT be using your SHIT MOTHERFUCKING RECRUITMENT SERVICES. DIE.4

The deeper I go down the infosec rabbit hole, the more I worry about my doctors still using Windows XP. Why would you save sensitive patient info in those....shoe boxes?4
-
When I solved a machine learning problem using naive Bayes in R for the first time.
I still remember it was 5am. Had been stuck for weeks and when it worked.. I called my teammate at 5am and said.. "I think solving this feels better than having sex".3 -
"Don't bother spending time learning MVC. We'll never use it here."
o_O
Well, that was 4 years ago, I'm still working here, they're not, we're using MVC.5 -
Do you have a main Linux distro or do you keep switching?
I wish I can stop switching, but I'm never satisfied after using a distro for about 6 months.
First I tried Mint, then Ubuntu, then Kali, and I'm currently using Zorin.
I still have a long list of distros to use, but I'm wondering if anyone else has a certain distro they use or if they're constantly switching.39 -
Python is a wonderful language.
But apparently the C syntax is still so deeply engrained in my mind that I get errors when using "printf()" instead of "print()" on a regular basis. m)6 -
Designer want me to resize an image from 300x300 px to 900×800 px by using css and still retain the quality by using object fit cover.6
-
When I still used swing to programm some games, I met a friend and I told him stupid because he was using linux instead of just windows, just because I didnt knew what linux actually is. He then showed me some features of linux and I said, that I'll never switch to linux because I like Win 10. After that he showed me Discord as well as telegram. And again i told him I'll never use it because I got teamspeak and whatsapp. About 1 week later I only use Discord, have a linux OS installed and using telegram (but still whatsapp).
Thanks for opening my eyes ;)8 -
I seriously don't know why some people still using Google Drive, DropBox. Pied Piper is much better
www.piedpiper.com7 -
We (as new hires) had to add a fallback logic for input validation on every input element using only JSP and Spring controllers just because the client still uses IE6 and fucking disables Javascript!!5

Hi android devs! 📱📱📱
I wanted to visualize a sound file using graphview.
But since the samplerate is high, it takes a long time .
To save the phone from freezing I tried using thread witch draws 2000 frames each 500 ms but it still takes a while to fully draw the graph .(lowering thread's repeat time also causes the system to freez)
What is the technical way of doing this?7 -
Raising kids is like using Windows. You know what you want him to do, the kid knows what you want him to do,... But he still decides to do whatever HE wants.
The frustration level is the same10 -
“Password length mustn't exceed seventeen characters.”
Why? Why do some Web sites still have this rule? It's 2018. We should be using passwords of at least twenty-four characters. This is crap.15 -
What's a good reason to be an android lover?
Having 4 apps running on screen at once!
(The 4th is using the quick reply when getting a message)
I still get amazed at how far mobile operating systems have evolved compared to the desktop!17 -
Cnc v0.5 done.
Still needs a few fixes but I can engrave my DevRant Hello World.
Needs a bigger table (and Visor), new spindle (fried the one I bough, using a very old scarvanged for now)
You guys like?24 -
Set up a mail server for our office using one of those all-in-one mail server installations. It would keep denying connections every few days, so me, being the inexperienced shit I was, setup a cron job to restart the server at midnight everyday. It worked and still, to this day, it still works.1
-
I dont get it why big it companys in germany still use fucking Internet Explorer and then complain about errors that are not even produced by our application. What the actuall fuck just stop using ie6

What??
What the hell Yahoo?

Is it just me, or does anyone miss logging into a Unix/Linux machine, doing a 'w' or 'who' and seeing a long list of folks all using the machine simultaneously? I still reflexively run 'who' as soon as I log into any real or virtual Unix or Linux machine and I am still slightly disappointed to find I'm all alone on it.3
-
Everybody still using Windows 7 is waking up to this this morning.
Thank you Microsoft for doing sales for us 😁5 -
My Neighbors still have written "Merry X mas" on their window... I am not sure if they're dead or just using IE
-
I have been watching the latest episode of 12 monkeys and it seems that in the year 2043 they are still using C programming language to code sophisticated time travel thingy. I guess I don't have to worry we'll be replaced by AI.7
-
"Why is the production database empty?"
Obviously, we had backups, but using the situation to make my employer shit his pants were funny. And yes, I'm still there5 -
People using windows are true heroes
With so much troubles in their life they are still adding one more :)5 -
I sent my Galaxy S9+ to repairs after someone scratched my fingerprint sensor.
It came back with "repairs done" but the only thing they apparently did was a software update, the sensor still has a scratch in it, and it still goes haywire when I try using it.4 -
Just start to use VSCode from sublime, and found out , I have wasted so much time on only using "console.log" as my main node.js debug weapon. ( Or I am still a dummy for Sublime )3
-
The only reason I'm still using WhatsApp or Facebook is because my classmates have a social group in which they share important information and tbh that's easy than dealing with emails.
Have to deal with bullshittery for one more year.9 -
When the 3rd party library you're using is raising compile time warnings about using APIs that have been deprecated since iOS 6.
It was last updated in Sept 2015. President says they're working on iOS 10 compatibility.
If it still has that warning next release... -
I've been a Python user and contributor for 10+ years. Somehow, after seeing so many fights on the Python mailing lists in the past few months, I have mixed feelings about the language itself.
The binary on my laptop is still the same, but using it feels different.6 -
After going through the painstaking process of getting automation scripts reviewed by the whole team, edits, commits, reverts and finally loosing sanity
and you see the team is still using the old automation scripts in testing.

Google is amazingly good at using tech to solve problems we did not even know we have...
I mean.. How did we even survive til this day w/o google making restaurant reservation or barbershop calls..? We are cavemen bcz we still do it all ourselves... So inefficient..
/s4 -
That's the reason why I'm still using Windows 10 Insiders builds...when you get into GSoD, you can shoot nice photo where you actually are. For me right now, that's the cafe in the shopping center.9

After more than 24 years in dev, I still don't use RegEx and I have no idea how to write one without using an online builder.
I also refuse any Pull requests contaning regEx..21 -
I’m a long time Objective-C and Swift developer...I’ve been asked to “research” a project using React Native.
It felt dirty to be writing an iOS app using JavaScript.
I’m still not sure why and how React Native is better/faster than native Swift.
Someone change my mind...11 -
Recreated minesweeper... Sort of
Some how Medium is still extremely hard.
Seems just using a random number generator for Mine placement doesn't make good games...16 -
-Writes a function that I'm going to schedule for django.
-works in development.
-adds it to production cron using django-crontab
-not working.
-spends 3 hours editing code, searching for similar problems and reading documentations but find nothing wrong and it's still not working.
-maybe it's django-crontab so I decide to just write a custom management command and call it through cron.
-still not working.
-calls function using what I'm telling cron to do.
-everything works.
-?????????
-adds logs to cron command (sorry for not making it earlier)
-mfw the code is not working because I imported 'patterns' in urls.py which has been deprecated since django 1.8 -
Built my own IoC container for C#. This taught me way too much about SOLID principles and dependency injection that i could give lessons now 😂
I'm still using my own IoC in my projects... It's great 🤘11 -
Have somewhat of a headache but I still want to work on some stuff so I started using f.lux and it's so much easier on my eyes than having the full on blue light burning my eyes out. Any one else using f.lux here?7
-
It is sad to say, but programming in C# using Visual Studio basically consists of clicking buttons, dragging and dropping files and checking / unchecking checkboxes in order to get everything generated.
Where are to good old days, when code still had to be typed. :(19 -
Fuck! My brain just had a catastrophic forgetting!!
I can't remember the PIN of my Android phone that I'm using right now. Luckily, I'm still in because of my finger print but won't help is phone restarts.
Seems like your can't reset PIN without entering previous PIN.
Help!13 -
~# mkdir certs
~# openssl req -newkey.......
*checked certs dir*
hmm.. empty?
*generated certs again*
Certs dir still empty. Reverted to Google for answers. None found. I was using FileZilla to check the Certs directory.
15 minutes and a million tries late, I realized that I forgot to CD into the Certs directory...............2 -
Seriously I don't understand why companies are using Zoom. I still don't get the interest compared to Slack, Google Meet, or Teams20

The simplicity of Python still amazes me even after 3 years of development.
Recently started using Flask!
One word WOW. -
I still remember developing my personal website using Microsoft FrontPage when I was a young kid. At that time I saw Microsoft Visual Basic on programs list too but don't even bother to click on it.
If only I clicked on it.2 -
First time using a computer:
Booting up some Mickey Mouse game from a floppy disk when I was 4 on my dads gateway 2000.
First time coding:
Writing html in dream weaver at 14.

So coming from the interpreted language world (mainly using python), I'm always amazed on how compiled languages work. Especially C.
Every time I use C, it's like everything is sooooo faster (runtime), and yes I've read about it so many times. It's just that I can't explain this great feeling about actually seeing the results of using C.
Man, I think I just love C (even though I'm still confused in using pointers).4 -
A question here reminded me of how websites were made long ago. Frames! Remember those little jewels? <frameset> and <iframe>, I still remember them. Man, even then it felt terribly wrong to use them. I remember using them to create web pages with header and side bar.
The only alternative was using <tables>, which, well, we know how they ended up. Frames today have been silently forgotten, but tables have been loudly hated for many years!
Ahhh, those were the times. So much has happened since then.
(Is "website" still a word today, btw?)7 -
Working on a new payment gateway for one of my customers, and it turns out that instead of just specifying the parameters for what to include in the API call they want you to use their drop-in module for it...which is still written in PHP 4 and hasn't been updated since 2011. Also turns out that they only accept data formatted in XML.
Not insurmountable, but more than I feel like dealing with right this moment...7 -
The moment when you realize the new intern merged a old cutout SVN branch into trunk and in effect nullified your changes..........Son of *#$ch. Why the fuck are we still using SVN2
-
I am working with 2 other person in a project. But everywhere they are using their name and not mentioning me. In all emails with clients they cc themselves but not me. I am still thinking if I should bail :/7
-
I can't believe it, people are still using dreamweaver, and they doing so because they actually don't know that there are better options. How are you a web dev and using dreamweaver out of ignorance...4

My worst program I still remember :D
When I was learning programming I wrote small console app in pascal to cipher string using Rot13. Every single letter was a case in switch statement. :D4 -
Heard of Electron? There is also Electrino, Electron-like stuff that uses your system's browser instead of embedding full Chrome. A “Hello World” app takes 115 MB using Electron, but only 167 kB using Electrino.
Too bad it's still a proof of concept with almost no features.
https://github.com/pojala/electrino20 -
I saw this a few years ago. Really doubt if such a bug still exists.
So I used to visit some educational websites to get answers to school assignments. Very often it used to be under a paywall.Only that it wasn't. I once saw the markup of the website using inspect element and guess what? The whole answer was available in the markup and was hidden using CSS😂.3 -
So what say guys, switch to linux forever, and bye bye windows?.
Or is there anything i should know before i do this?.
Things i cannot do in linux?
Googled a lot, still confused.Help?
(Using Arch, seems all fine)19 -
It's been more than 3 years since ES6 came out.
Why are tutorials STILL coming out with people using "var" over "let" and "const"?
Var is dead folks.8 -
A taste in college with punchcards but mostly on Commodore 64 and IBM 5050 using BASIC and dBASE II. Automated my company from paper to systems and developed many side projects. Still creating 😀

I still don’t understand git completely ,sometimes the error messages are so hard to understand I just make a new repository and push all my new updates there using GitHub desktop.7

I've been doing it wrong for 6 months! I've been building -> uploading my work manually to server using ssh.
Now I decided I write a script for that shit .-.
Though I'm still not able to make output take a different color in Ubuntu default terminal, tried many solutions but I still fail :\
Any suggestions?14 -
When you find colleagues still using the Java Calendar class despite having moved to Java 8 and the java.time package long ago.

Wow so many teachers... Looks like lots of people take CS. The only CS teacher I have is myself (and books).
Best Dev experience... So far... Writing Watcher.
First app I wrote using modular design and I use it still every day. -
Plebs be using IG, FB & Snapchat.
Then ranting about its full of shit.
Maybe they ain't so pleb but in development. Still don't get why someone would hate themselves to make such media their main.1 -
I started using i3 window manager and My productivity Increased to 70%. I'm sure it'll still go up as I get used to it. I feel like I own the device now!😂1

I've been using python in my work for about the past 2 years. I came from c++ and I still don't know how I feel about it. What do you think about python?14

Why tf people still use anything that is not UTF-8?? I could understand if you are from a language with most of its chars out of the first byte, but still, it is increadible the amount of things encoded using latin-1 and similar others... It is time to STOP!1
-
Am I the only one who is still using Windows 7 for non geeky stuff?!
Fuck your updates, dear Microsoft. Fuck them.9 -
What Google services are you still using? Earlier this year I made a conscious decision to avoid Google services if I can. I successfully got off gmail and gcal. Because I have yet to find viable alternatives, I am still using:
YouTube
Voice
Gboard
Android
Maps
Music
Home
Fonts (on occasion)27 -
I wrote a program a few years ago which needed to fetch data from a website. Instead of using the API, I used a html parser and extracted the data myself.
The code still runs flawlessly. -
Not a major progress, still a humble one, but I'm improving in Vue, now using Vuex, and hopefully I'm doing it the right way :)

Is anybody using skype on android. Recently it got updated and is bloody useless, can't even share stuff over it anymore. While having a video call, rotating to landscape doesn't work most of the time. This is the only fucking app from MS I am still using, only because of my family.3

When a service has not yet seen release of version 1, and you are asked to start using version two which is still in beta like version one 🤦🏼♂️

Not bad for a test over WiFi 😮
Still, how I long for fiber... Then I won't need to use a VPN to boost my speed lol... Not that I'll stop using one...17 -
I posted a !rant a couple of days ago saying I started to get the hang of vim to change from atom (which is a memory asshole)... So after trying to actually work using vim I noticed I am far more productive using atom, so I gave VS Code a chance... Wow, it's like having atom but only consuming 80mbs tops. I think I decided what will be my default ide.
Still glad I know understand vim, I will still use it but not as my default ide.15 -
Any good resources for learning css?
I've been using it for three years and I still suck ass.
Never learned it properly, never liked it at all.10 -
Love when I'm using a tool and get "damn this is well thought out" feeling. Magit (Git client) for Emacs. Been using it for a couple of years and still get these awe moments.4

Today after 6 years I used windows in my cousin's laptop for the first time... I felt really bad for the people still using windows..
Tried to fix a dll problem in her system and still no idea how to fix that shit...
Great job Microsoft...11 -
Still using a database from 90' - Enea Polyhedra:

Anyone looked at / using Jetbrains new font?
I mean it's... ok, I guess, but I'm still sticking with what I know (Droid Sans Mono being my particular weapon of choice.) I'm probably more likely to switch languages than I am fonts.

I removed Facebook Messenger **Lite** from my phone last night after reinstalling BetterBatterStats.
I thought using Lite meant no more background update or at least very little but...
Anyway after uninstalling, I've been unplugged for 10hrs, still 87%...
No need for battery pack anymore...3 -
Our professor takes points off our code if we use tabs (not much, but still).
But the best part is having "few" spaces is also a problem. Seems like using tabs we be a solution then.
Why?!6 -
Maaaan, we all knew it was coming, we were warned, again and again, yet still, when Lets Encrypt's old root CA expired today, we found out a tool we were using to get new certs (Not cerbot, custom wrapper around acme-tiny) included the old root in the chain.
So... A few hours ago, some of our servers started having connection issues.
Great final 3 hours of today. Better luck next time I guess? Still, despite the little hickup, Lets Encrypt still remains as one of the biggest revolutions in the adoption of SSL, they're the good guys.5 -
I just realized I do actually whiteboard. It's just that I do it on the computer using Visio...
Maybe everyone else on my team does too just they used an actual whiteboard...
Still doesn't quite explain some of the crap that shows up in the code though...3 -
We are still using SVN because the management doesn't understand how git works.
And i don't understand why i am still working here...7 -
Spotify app is so full of shit. Everything is so slow, downloaded songs still load slow if there is no internet connection, the ui is atrocious. It's so bad I found myself unconsciously switching to using youtube more and more despite it requiring me to keep the screen alive.17
-
I'm still using .then().catch() instead of the async await.
So, first of all, Fuck you for calling it a STANDARD now. its nowhere near to be called standard. You wanna get some data from an API? Wanna call it using axios or fetch? What if the server is down? what if there's an error that you don't even know existed? Where do I get that kinda error in async await? try-catch? no thanks :| I'm good -_-8 -
I started using dvorak ~2 months ago and I’m getting better and better, but I was still using qwerty for french. But today, I discovered bépo... bye bye short term productivity2

The tags disappear from your drafts.
Anyone else experiencing this ?
Also I can't scroll through the tag suggestions.
Is it a bug or a feature ? @dfox
(This still happens even after updating the Android App)
I'm using a Lenovo device with Android M.2 -
Things which make me feel badass tester (and dev too) are: dark themed IDEs, using command prompt/ terminal (still as exciting), and when my code actually works lol4
-
It kills me when people performing UAT do not know how to test a particular functionality but still mark it as a defect when something uneven happens! We use IMF to build the input using tags. Sometimes they won't even care to know the right tag to fit in the params, but would still mark it as a bug whatsoever!
-
The time myself and a colleague got the chance to do a POC to port our iOS app into Swift using storyboards and more modern iOS features. We were able to replicate a significant portion of the existing app in a couple of days. Just wish we had gotten the chance to spend more time on it. We are currently still stuck using crapjective-c
-
I'm still unable to find a single advantage of using the Firebase Database over MongoDB, yet people keep suggesting me to do so.
WHY? I can host Mongo for free on my own server and won't have to worry about *READING* costing money!6 -
Fun fact: In 2020, there are still companies out there with full-blown web apps using CGI (yeah, remember? /cgi-bin?).12
-
Can't believe that the debate between using space vs tab is still going on. Tab is the way to go people.12

Am I the only one who switched over to GitLab after Microsoft bought GitHub and is still using it?11

confession
somewhere deep inside me I know that despite I am programming in c and using linux from ages, still not an expert.2 -
Any Indian students here?. Are you guys still using Turboo C++ to teach programming?.
Also what about microprocessor?. Still 8085?11 -

TIL my "Computer Systems" professor is very passionate about using Linux servers as opposed to Windows (professionally at least) but still has to teach us how to use both. I think he would fit in nicely here.1 -
So, since a few months, my school has a new shiny building,
but we are still not using it because the computers are not correctly set up.
Some idiot installed the wrong drivers for the Windows installation
and that's the reason some classes are still located in containers without a computer...3 -
Still waiting for the Windows 10 October 2018 Update to be re-released or declared stable to go ahead, format and start over on my laptop.
Also still having trouble when using ZIP files 😑5 -
I'm making the assignment in full flexbox, they still using floats tho.
The cringe is never enough.4 -
devRanters, are you still here?
Since, sadly, it's not possible to post images anymore and the founders unfortunately aren't addressing the issue (unless I missed something, let me know), I'm thinking about implementing an integrated external image uploader in devRant UWP client (if you don't know, I made a client for devRant in 2016 you can still download from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10/11), integrated as link for official clients, loaded as image in my client.
It won't resolve the issue on mobile (other than seeing the link to the image), unless you're using a Windows Phone in 2025!, but at least you could potentially see images on Windows (for rants posted using my client).
Let me know what do you think. If there are any devRant UWP users still here... lol3 -
Damn it, Visual Studio 2017! :( It crashed without reason and then upon restart ate up all my RAM. Killing all processes in Task Manager helped a little, but something was still using up a little too much of the CPU and RAM.3
-
I kinda hate Java. And Android Studio.
I have to develop an app for participant registration/management for college techfest by 10th march.
Fuck.
(I'm using Cordova or React Native, but still.)
Fuck.6 -
my colleague from .php working on ubuntu told me that i dont have patience
so i replied him -jerk i am using windows still you want proof of my patience. -
For three days now I've been trying to fix a multi thousand line binder script which generates a json ast for c++ code using clang and then consumes type defs and creates rust bindings and I want to die
(it still doesn't work right)9 -
Day 3, still stuck with the same weird error message, Im using Ionic and I think I'll switch to React Native...3

Long story short:
Just had several problems with using some drone ci plugins (hugo and sftp). Found issues regarding the problems on GitHub. Issues have been open for several years. Still open. Tried to participate or ask for the state. Got a "no one else got a problem with this". Recoded both plugins. Tested them. Using them now. Source is on GitHub. Posted them as alternatives on drone's discourse. Got flagged as spam.
Nice. Not using Drone again. Searching for an alternative now.
Little extra: I think they banned me from posting GitHub links on their discourse.4 -

I used to be proud of my skills using eclipse IDE, then I decided to try IDEA. No regrets, but after 3 months I still not mastered the new key mapping and totally forgot the eclipse one. Now I have no reason to change back at all xD1

Fucked a clients wordpress website up by editing a saved option thats saved as serialised php data. Tried using the row data from a backup and updating it in the database and it still loads the fallback theme settings. What do?5

I don't know how any company can keep on top of crazy npm package changes. I work in a REALLY SMALL team. We are still using bunch of deprecated packages and we keep building on top of those packages. Updating packages is always a nightmare. It's impossible to Google solution when no one is using the particular combination of deprecated packages. Fuck me4

Been using more java lately (after like a year of not really touching it), determined to learn all the features j10 and up. Came to the conclusion that anyone who still thinks "java is verbose" is a fucking idiot.4

Who is doing this to me *sobs*, mongoose or MongoDB? 😥😥
I'm adding new records (array) to an embedded document, but the first record to be added gets duplicated, even with the same ID and stuff :(..
Was using Callbacks, switched to promises, still the same.

How do you hide your javascript file from showing for your client..aside from using obfuscation... do you know anyway to do this using npm and where you would just go
Var hide = require(‘hide something’);
hide(“public/my.js”);
hide(“public/my2.js”);
Hides it from clients and still able to access functions by these javascript files?44 -
Didn't know Android had such a Feature.

I still don't like using React/Polymer for really big projects. There's nothing like carefully tailored jquery code doing exactly what you wanted with addition of promises and requirejs. Anyone?5

Am I the only one to this date who still doesn't feel comfortable using the NumPad? I always have the NumLock key turned off and people who borrow my computer get annoyed by that. I've always typed numbers using the row above the letters. Typing numbers on the NumPad is very slow and unnatural to me. Is someone else out there feeling the same?4

What’s up DevRanters.
Is what’s up still up today ?
Sooo, my question is, what’d you do for your privacy ?
I’m using Signal and Riot.im for chat, ProtonMail for email (tutanota in the future).
But I’m using iPhone, can we really trust Apple ? Is this better on Android with a specific ROM ?
Same for computers (btw I’m not an Arch user 😎).19 -
I give up! Been trying to solve this shit for a week and still failed:
Using Android Data Binding, two-way binding and when I compile I receive this error:
Unknown class: java.lang.String
It was working without issues before upgrading Android Studio.
Anyone has a clue how to solve this shit?
By the way I'm using Kotlin, on Java it doesn't produce errors, and I'm not going to convert my project to Java ...8 -
GitHub should allow server linking and social content downloading for repo authors to encourage people to still host their own repositories
This centralization is like everybody using Gmail
Some asshole deletes everything and we're all fucked15 -
When interviewing people still ask me if I work with Eclipse. I'm Android dev, why should I ever work with that piece of sh*t of an non-IDE?
Please just don't ask for Eclipse. No sane androider uses it. I don't like to waste my life using the worst software ever made. I would even say that no one should be using it. NetBeans is better, IntelliJ is best.2 -
When you're the only one who likes docker in your team and they're still insisting on using WAMP/XAMPP. Fixing docker bugs and trying to make it work. Push! This is war!2

Not sure if Google is surprised this happens or they really never face issues using Gradle
Edit:
Took 4 minutes to compile a basic flutter app. But it takes 1.3 minutes to compile a native app. So far liking flutter, still hating React Native tho1 -
It is quite disappointing when some developers only rely on using libraries / dependencies(or whatever you call it) rather than do it manually. I know it can make the work faster but still using too much libraries will make it worst. It’s not bad using libraries, but if you use too much libraries it doesn’t degrade the performance of the app ( too much memory space when you only need that certain action and you include the whole library) but when the library becomes deprecated and no updates that might cause a problem.
It’s not bad using libraries, but not too much.2 -

I detest using `indexOf` to check if a string contains a substring so much I could write a rant about it.
Or is there a better way? One google search later: ES6 supports `string.prototype.includes`[1]
So moral of the story: Before ranting and using something, bother to look if it is still a problem. They might have fixed it.

Hey guys... I need some help. I have a react project which needs to fetch around 10MB of JSON data from server and then do a computation on that whole data. With bitcoin/binance still allowing russia to move money about, is anybody abandoning it? I don't feel comfortable using it, but also if it becomes their only way to fund themselves, the government will push through new tax laws on it and throttle it anyway. Or just outright ban people from using it.
Funding a war is one of the occassions where decentralised financing becomes a major problem.17 -
Exchange...services always failing causing email outages...it's 2017 already and business still trying to save money by using this crappy software

TailsOS is based on keeping you anonymous by using Tor, if that's the case how Tails can protect you if you can install Tor on any other distribution of your choice? I still don't get it9

For regular daily stuff I use VS Code and it is incredible imo, for big backend PHP projects that come in from time to time I switch over to PhpStorm and for big React / Native projects or projects that contain multiple js frameworks I've been using WebStorm and I haven't been disappointed at all.
I got introduced to the latter two at a company I used to work for and I'm still using them!1 -
Just bought a Chromebook Pixel. Love the hardware - Chromebooks in general are a great way to get a Linux laptop with guaranteed driver support.
But why is it still so hard to get decent HiDPI support in Linux (or for that matter Windows) desktop environments?
I realise Apple had an advantage in using vector-based Display Postscript, but massively divergent screen sizes and resolutions have been around for YEARS now, so why is it still such a faff?1 -
Started developing an interest in programming after creating warcraft 3 maps using the world editor. I still remember those days where I used the gui trigger editor, where I don't even know the difference between local and global variables, preventing memory leaks by using leak check and etc. Creating new skills using triggers was so exciting. Then I discovered JASS, but I didn't really learn or use much about it. Now I'm working in Unity3D and it is awesome!2

`[vuex] unknown mutation type:`

so, I've been using funtoo for quite a while as my personal os. Work still insists on using mint. so I wanted to try out the ecc gpg keys, which requires gpg version 2.1. Have it installed on funtoo with a few commands :)
I thought I was up for the challenge... compiling gnupg from source...
let's just say that after hours of struggling with the dependencies and totally breaking basically everything, I am now happily using version 2.1 on mint 18 -

Feels good to finally see it working.
PS- Still can't get the emulator to work on Ubuntu 😭2 -
What do people here use to 'manage' projects in small teams?
Im currently working in a team of 2 and using gitlab for git and using the changelog for changes and todo stuff.
Its working 'alright' but its still a bit of a hassle specialy for 2 persons.
People here use other tools that are faster to use etc?3 -
2024 - At Microsoft its still not clear for the people that who is using Visual Studio might want to create an installer for the application he's building.
Why would people want an installer, what a crazy thought to have it in the ide primarily used for building applications.6 -
I don't know if this is just YouTube or this is a feature, but there is a time bug with YouTube. Every video that is >1 week old (and younger than 2 weeks) will still using the format "... days ago" instead of "1 week ago" like how it is intended.
For example, this video is >1 week old, which means that it should show the "1 week ago", but instead, it still shows "12 days ago".9 -

git merge "conflicts"
(not really an issue, but still a waste of time and concentration, when every now and then, using more than one branch, small edits, merge, and rebase, git diff complains about "conflicts" that are obvious to solve for a human but still not for a machine, despite the hype about the age of AI, coding co-pilots and the like...)5 -
How bash does not support redirecting stderr to /dev/null when using read redirection inside command substitution is F*CKING ANNOYING.

in 2023, swift still doesn't have a tracing GC, and they are still using reference counting to decide when to deallocate an instance, surprise! what's even worse is closures are everywhere and the default way to define a closure make it possible to keep a reference to variables in the parent scope.8

I am developing mobile version of c# app, completely alone in java/android. Still don't know how to use enums with int:string pair in java so I keep using arrays for this.

You're fucking kidding me, right?

The beauty of vim is that I'm using it either bare or within vscode for ever (I think it was back in montreal when i was unemployed, or maybe in ireland, cant even remember), and I'm still learning.
You can jump through file by using caps mark.
do MD, open another file (i use fzf) and then you can come back using 'D. This is fucking great and i feel very stupid for not knowing it.
I just wish i could use vim within firefox6 -

Hy all,
I have a question to those that use nodejs, express.
A while back I've seen a project from a friend of mine and one thing intrigued me.
He was using a route.json file to call from it in his back-end api.
I am a noob still but I would really like to know what was that technique he was using.
I hope my description wasn't to vague.4 -
In C++ we give my code is still compiling as an excuse to stack off.
