FLOATING POINT PRECISION! FUCK YOU! Spent so much time trying to figure out what was wrong with an algorithm I made to calculate and correct bounding only to finally realise, after printing out every single variable and calculating everything manually to realise the value was off by 0.0001 which made it skip an if statement. I work for a quite small company (4 people) and about 3 years ago, there was this guy from Bolivia who was an intern for graphics and similar stuff, nothing related to programming.

Turns out we got to be quite friends and still hang out from time to time now.

Best thing was when boss wasn't at the office for like a week and we hadn't much to work on, so we spent time smoking, eating, chatting and watching movies... very great time!

I kind of just came to an insight that my computer is sort of my partner in crime.

I "teach" it how to do something that I'm probably better of not doing or should do in moderation... But then it gives me access to so much of the stuff, I spend a lot more time doing it... more effectively.

So I actually don't save much time because it makes it easier so I now do even more...

It's pretty much normal to stay 1,5 hour on 1 hour meeting.

A bit exaggerated, but it pretty much sums up my job.

I always spend a lot of time thinking about the responsiveness of my designs, often I get stuck for some time due to random images, backgrounds etc not fitting the device size and then I check other sites to get inspired and get disappointed and sad how most developers just don't give a shit and either the background just gets cut off, images just hidden instead of aligned for example to the left further down the content and so much more, am I the only one spending so much time into getting my sites/designs perfect across any device and screen size?

I am a noob as of now. So much to learn! So little time. Its so difficult to juggle between learning new things and academics!

The type of projects I do is quite limited to standard library so I also don't spend time on reading docs of some dependency. I make everything myself. Afterwards, I look up what the way to go is how others do it and compare. Mostly, I don't adjust, it's just smth for next time. That's the whole hobby. Just keep going

Happens all the time

A Bible app for Android called Tour the Bible. It uses the Google maps API to put a pin in each location as you read so you can follow along and virtually "tour" the Bible.

I had a basic version built but then I switched to Kotlin then I pretty much completely rewrote it to use an api for the Bible content instead of plain .txt files. I still try to work on it in my spare time but with a family, full time job, full time school and part time freelancing I don't get much spare time.

Just realized that the scroll position indicator dances when scrolling through a long list of comments 😄, and I think that's beautiful

Currently we have zero time for R&D at work, now I have convinced management to let me try and convince them to arrange some time per week/sprint(2 weeks) or month

How should I approache this? And how much time would be optional (enough time for prototyping but still leave more than enough time for the projects we have) ?

Any tips that you have for negotiation/convincing management would be greatly appreciated!! 😁😁

Trying to manage and develop five massive projects does not leave much free time and does not do much for my sanity.

Having a teacher that tell us not to spend too much time on his homework.

Having the same teacher to ask us to do a project in Smalltalk, while nobody has understood the language.
It hurts.

First job starts in June, so I guess my first rant is that I don't have much to rant about (yet). Time to lurk .-.

Myself. I would say it is around 2-5 hours per week and I wish it was closer to 7-10

After responding to that rant asking our ages I realised how much fucking time I have wasted. I'm not afraid of aging, but man, if I had started learning programming two or even one year ago I'd know so much more right now. But fuck, I've been procrastinating life for 21 years. 21 FUCKING YEARS!

Pretty much when i stopped listening to the same old "my printer is jammed" requests in helpdesk and saw a friend dev earn twice as much as i dis at that time without dealing with (that many) idiotic situations.

A few years later - i'm a happy little coder. And i have my own minions to deal with support. Seniority rules :D

OH MY GOD REFACTORING FEELS SO AWESOME

I just finished spent 4 weeks of crazy busy summer camps and I get back to a project I was working on.

It feels so awesome to just effortlessly move stuff into methods and have it work pretty much first time.

To be fair I’m the only one working on this right now so I pretty much already knew the code but still holy cow it’s so much simpler now.

Moral of the story: Appreciate your time off and use it to unwind and let your mind wander to more creative heights before taking advantage of it after and only after you get back to the project

I had to sit through a meeting, which we discussed how to make our meetings more effective. In the end, we decided we were being effective already and too much process was a waste of time

I have desktop pc that I use for gaming on windows from time to time but most of time it stays turned off.

My gaming experience is usually:
1. turn it on
2. wait for windows update
3. turn it off

I hate Windows! BSOD and many other *famous* errors waste my time resolving them.
