My colleague just typed 20/20 in a calculator😨 and he didn't believe me when I insisted that it was 1😭22 -
I realized hacking was about being smart when at 14 i hacked into someones computer by guessing his password on the 2nd try.
The dude loved computers more than me and watched matrix all the time.
So i typed “neo”9 -
My boss typed up a GitLab ticket that looked like it took at least an hour to make. Screenshots, diagrams, how to reproduce the bug, dreams, hopes, desires, dinner recipes, marriage advice, how to diversify a portfolio. Honestly, the whole 9 yards.
The bug fix was changing a SQL Inner Join to a Left Join. 10 seconds.14 -
The best prank played in our office was an AutoHotkey script that changed the space character to actually print the word 'space' in all caps.
The next message in Hipchat from the victim was: "WhatSPACEtheSPACEfuck!SPACEMySPACEkeyboardSPACEisntSPACEworking!"
The next time this prank was pulled, ALL symbols were typed out in all caps.1 -
When I was an intern, I wrote a very heavy MySQL query with multiple joins. Quite frustrated, I asked for some help from one of my seniors.
He came by on my desk and told me, "Explain your query!".
I was completely blank-faced O_O.
After a few moments, the senior grabbed this hopeless bastard's keyboard and typed "EXPLAIN" in the beginning of the query; and then ran it.
I thought he was being hard to me.7 -
Ever wondered why C++ programmers need to replace their keyboards so often?
Because they are using a strongly typed language5 -
Once a friend asked me to teach programming to him so I started with basics and hello world. Run the code and printed "hello world" on command line. Then my friend opened a new command prompt typed hello world and told me he can write that without all of the bs and that was the end.7

I was so bored and I typed this on Google search "a;sldkfj" and the meaning came...
What a New Year.. -
Picking up my kid in kindergarten, they asked if I had time to help fix the manager's computer. Internet wasn't working, at had been on the phone with support for 4 hours. I accepted the challenge, open prompt and typed "ipconfig /renew". Done. I walked out a rockstar.2

*on the phone with a client*
Important detail: in Dutch we call a colon a "double point" and a semicolon a "point comma".
Me: go to {url} and put double point followed by {something} behind it.
Client: *tries for 5 minutes, suggestions forth and back*
Me: how did you type the double points?
Client: I typed two points. (..)
The level of retardness I thought existed got worse once again.
At that moment the open window seemed like a veeery good option 😭15 -
I think the best I saw was a co-worker scripted a file so that every time the manager typed the computer would play painful screaming sounds and then thank her when she stopped typing.3

Is "sleep-coding" a thing? Fell asleep last night on accident with my phone in my hand. When I woke up, I had typed a few lines of code in my sleep.17

Throughout the day I check Google analytics, I do it so much that I have a habit of typing "anal" and hitting enter into chrome and it auto completes,
I accidentally typed it not realising I still had focus on my company Slack chat window. The delete message feature is disabled 😰.7 -
Fuck these movie people:
You run "sudo apt-get update.." and you say we've got the signal. Your f*cking signal! Am sure someone even typed the password for you. I update my system every 5 minutes I have got no signal. F*ck you again. I'm not watching the movie again. P*ssing me off.6 -
An engineer was working on a windows server. Needed to partition something so typed 'part' in the windows search thingy (windows 10).

Talking to Best Buy customer support live chat trying to price match using friend’s laptop.
Typed in “<b>Hello</b>”
Oh cool.. it comes out as bold. Let’s get a scary as fuck screamer gif and img src it.
Me: *Posts picture*
Me: *Waits a few seconds*
Me: “Did you see that picture?”
Support: “No. Sir, could you tell me the item you want to price match?”
Me: “Okay hold on.”
Typed in “<script type=‘text/javascript’>window.alert(‘OOGA BOOGA BITCH’);</script>”
Me: “Did you see that?”
Friend: “Dude stop.”
I push my friend away since I’m on his Best Buy account.
Me: “Did you see a pop up?”
Support: “No.”
Me: “Okay okay hold on.”
You have left the chat.10 -
Friend: dude, JavaScript seems awesome. It looks so easy and there aren't any annoying compiler errors like in Java
Me: I know it sounds cool in theory, but it sucks in practice, trust me
Friend: no way, dynamically typed languages are the future
*Friend installs node*
*Friend writes a simple script*
*Friend gets undefined errors because of a few typos and has a hard time debugging it*
Friend: JavaScript is retarded

Something is not working with PTR DNS records right now.
It's getting really frustrating and I'm starting to DuckDuckGo the issue.
Just noticed that I typed this:
"how to setup a fucking ptr record".
I didn't type the 'fucking' intentionally.

I'M AN IDIOT.
I accidentally typed the wrong command when I was compiling my C++ code with GCC, and guess what?
My .cpp file is gone. The .exe is still there, but that's useless to me right now.
It wasn't an important code, just something I recently started on, but I can't believe I did something so ignorant.17 -
Walking up to my computer, on autopilot i typed my password to unlock it, pressed enter ...aaand realised it was unlocked and I just sent my password in the clients general slack channel.
Quickly changed it to a smiley and pretended it was raining..
Any one else who mistakenly typed a password or other secrets in a slack channel or similar? XD10 -

Was going to install python 3.5. Typed "apt-get install python 3.5" instead of "apt-get install python3.5".

Epic team fail. I bought a mechanical keyboard, plugged it in typed one word and the team wanted to kill me.
I don't know much about keyboards, but turns out it had blue, very loud, very clicks switches.
Keyboard was unplugged, wrapped up and put back in the box ready to be returned.13 -
This always makes me smile.
1996 - James Gosling invents Java. Java is a relatively verbose, garbage collected, class based, statically typed, single dispatch, object oriented language with single implementation inheritance and multiple interface inheritance. Sun loudly heralds Java's novelty.
2001 - Anders Hejlsberg invents C#. C# is a relatively verbose, garbage collected, class based, statically typed, single dispatch, object oriented language with single implementation inheritance and multiple interface inheritance. Microsoft loudly heralds C#'s novelty.

Just typed a 2000 word passionate story about AI and the app refreshed itself before I managed to post it. I wanna cry :(:(:(
Sigh, I'll try again.10 -
AAAAAARRRRGGHHHH FUUUCKKER!!!
The new MacBook Pro with touchbar is ABSOLUTELY SHITE.
I can't tell you how many times I have accidentally touched the escape key with my pinky while typing. Also accidentally touched "send" while in apple Mail halfway through writing something.
Apple clearly did no user testing with this as I have googled around and many folk are having the same frustrations.
I've just typed a massive note into jira and towards the end my pinky hit the escape key and I lost everything!!
FUCK CUNT BASTARD WANK!!!12 -
Algorithms strike again :D
By the way I really much agree on both rants. People asking questions that they not even once typed into Google. Disturbing my workflow every 5 minutes...1 -
Wanted to give DuckDuckGo a try, later I realized I better not to, because a one letter mistake will lead to disasters.
I mistakenly typed: dickdickgo.com :)16 -
FUCK! agshdklgdahgisdahl;k!
I just spent 45 FUCKING MINUTES debugging try to figure out WHY THE HELL a function that is supposed to return either a pointer to a valid object OR ZERO if a valid object is not found, was RETURNING FUCKING EIGHT!
Then I saw it... I typed:
nodeList[index];
instead of:
return nodeList[index];
It took me looking at a stack trace and a disassembly of the function to realize this.
Can't wait for this three-day weekend...18 -
If you make students take coding tests/quizzes on paper, don't grade them on picky syntax errors! We don't code on paper in the real world; syntactic highlighting and red squiggles will usually show you that you accidentally typed that declaration incorrectly. Understanding programming concepts is much more important than being able to write a program on paper.2

My university has impeccable data management. I needed to ssh into their Linux server for an assignment but it refused to accept my login. Which was weird because I could login to the same account on one of our websites just fine. I typed my password into a text file and then copy and pasted it into both logins. The Linux one failed but the website succeeded. After some experimentation it turns out that the Linux server only recognized my username if I typed it in all lowercase, even though when I created the account it had uppercase characters as well.
So let me walk you through the sloppiness that had to have occurred for this to happen. When I first created the account it must have ignored what I entered and just saved the username in all lowercase without communicating that to me. Then the websites that use this account must either ignore case for usernames or lowercase the user input before querying the database. Finally, the Linux server, despite knowing that all the usernames are lowercase, is case sensitive and won't recognize the username as I originally typed it in.
Can you guess what department manages the account, website and Linux server? The Department of Computer and Information Science. Incredible.2 -
Am I the only one who, when working with dynamically typed languages, never uses dynamic features? Like, I never change a variable type, and make sure functions will only return one data type?
I just think dynamic types leads to so many bugs6 -
Just finished up my first compiler, with accurate extensible error reporting, and the syntax system is generically typed so I can reuse it. Pretty fucking pleased with myself12
-
Tried javascript coming from Java and C++, i know not a lot of people agree with me but holy fucking shit i hate non-typed variables they introduce so much ambiguity it drives me insane!!!9

There was a variable named 'isVisible'
Wanted to make it visible
I typed in 'yeah' as a keyword instead of 'true'

Dynamically typed languages are barbaric to me.
It's pretty much universally understood that programmers program with types in mind (if you have a method that takes a name, it's a string. You don't want a name that's an integer).
Even it you don't like the verbosity of type annotations, that's fine. It adds maybe seconds of time to type, which is neglible in my opinion, but it's a discussion to be had.
If that's the case, use Crystal. It's statically typed, and no type annotations are required (it looks nearly identical to Ruby).
So many errors are fixed by static typing and compilers. I know a person who migrated most of the Python std library to Haskell and found typing errors in it. *In their standard library*. If the developers of Python can't be trusted to avoid simple typing errors with all their unit tests, how can anyone?
Plus, even if unit testing universally guarded against typing errors, why would you prefer that? It takes far less time to add a type annotation (and even less time to write nothing in Crystal), and you get the benefit of knowing types at compile time.
I've had some super weird type experiences in Ruby. You can mock out the return of the type check to be what you want. I've been unit testing in Ruby before, tried mocking a method on a type, didn't work as I expected. Checked the type, it lines up.
Turns out, nested away in some obscure place was a factory that was generating types and masking them as different types because we figured "since it responds to all the same methods, it's practically the same type right?", but not in the unit test. Took 45 minutes on my time when it could've taken ~0 seconds in a statically typed language.11 -
I typed "goto the place..." somewhere and later realized that "go" and "to" are two different words in real life.
-
After 2 years of being forced into writing PHP 5.5, we've finally convinced upper management to let us switch to C# instead. It's coming in a few weeks. Words cannot describe how much I hate this god awful language.... C#, save me my sweet, sweet, strictly typed goodness.11
-
I found a weird bug where the output wasn't what I expected to be. After a few tries to fix it, I typed in something I expected was not going to work. It worked....2

Ever typed something, checked again, posted it and days later realized there is a typo despite your second check and autocomplete? 😒😒😒15
-
Why do C# and Java developers keep breaking their keyboards? Because they use a strongly typed language.2
-
They really need to improve the algorithm that is searching for things in Windows Explorer. Literally:
Windows: *Searching for files in Downloads*
Me: I just typed .mp4, what is taking so long!?
Windows: *No results.*4 -
always double check your rm -rf command...
long ago, young me was setting up a server. last thing was to remove a temp folder i created. instead of rm -rf /path/to/dir, i typed rm -rf / path/to/dir...
"this should not take so long...wait... shit"7 -

Javascript.
It was created with a mind of writing simple scripts in browser not for some to attempt to write whole fucking applications (which seems to be a plague these days). Typed languages!6 -
Stupid things I've done from being tired
Typed "SELECT star FROM..." instead of "SELECT * FROM..."
Typed "instead" when writing the previous sentence
Typed the door code for work into the microwave instead of the time
Listened to my alarm in agony for 2 minutes before registering what it was and that I can switch it off3 -
When was last time you had Fight or Argument(restricted only to texting) with your GF/BF/Spouse while coding?
The amount of text typed on phone is more than the code on screen.8 -
Apparently USPS tracking numbers are case sensitive... I missed a delivery today so went online to check the status.
The code was RAxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxTR
x=numbers
I first typed the letters in lowercase and it said package not found...
Really???!!!!!! Don't you think all those numbers are already too long...3 -
I just can't remember the last time I typed
www.
in the browser URL bar.
There were times when a webpage spits out a 404 error when we didn't typed www.
Can anyone explain this?
Is the web standard changed, or is the browser doing it for me secretly?
And do you guys/gals still type that www?16 -
VSCode, the only thing I hate about this is, it becomes too lag after I left it too long. Probably because of the vin extension, I typed something and it only came out 1/2 seconds and I have to restart my laptop 😭7

It was sunny outside but the manacles that shackled me to the workstation were cold and biting particularly sharply this morning. I typed "fuck xcode" into the search engine. I found devRant. My life would be forever changed.2

My work computer is so fucking laggy that even simple typing is often infuriating, and sometimes bloody impossible.
My input gets garbled, or it takes so long that I finish typing and have to wait for it to show up. And sometimes. Sometimes it’s just. I don’t have words. I just typed “merchants”, saw a giant spam of “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee[...]” and then saw it replaced with “etsmhcaern”. What. The. 🦆.15 -
I'm fascinated by the programs in use by stores. I was buying a piece of furniture yesterday and noticed that the employee typed my order using the console. Literally everything - the model, the color, the shipping address...4
-
Websites that redirect you to a custom /404 page after you've typed their way too fucking long URL and misspelled a single word deserve to be nuked from orbit.
Holy fucking shit, why is this a thing? Has this ever helped ANYBODY?9 -
Today my grandmother called and told me she wasnt able to login to her account for her ISP. Alright, maybe shes confused about the passwords as we had to change it recently. No, turns out they still have this "oh sorry you typed your password incorrect three times, so we will lock your account and your granny have to do the 2 hour telephone queue"
You and your fucking outdated auth practise can go and kindly fuck yourself. Fix this shit before I get real mad.5 -
Don't watch video tutorials while lifting weights. I was reading what was being typed, and forgot I was holding 150 pounds over my head.3

Last week a user couldn't find a document in sharepoint. Typed (what he thought) was the exact file name in the search -> no results.
I know how to get 'under the hood', so I looked where I thought the file was, found it, and it was exactly as he searched for it. What the hell? Wasn't a new file, it wasn't moved/renamed, no reason why it couldn't be found.
I 'touched' the file. Waited 5 minutes and searched again, found it. What the frack Microsoft!14 -

I'm a long time Unity3D C# programmer and i mostly build android games for fun. About half a year ago i dumped windows for Debian Linux(fucking love it) but I quickly started to miss my unity3d environment. Unity in a VM doesn't work and the outdated, beta, crash prone linux version doesn't support android so i started looking for an alternative.
I decided to give Godot a shot but moving from a statistically typed language to a dynamically typed one literally breaks my brain. The last couple of hours of reading the documentation pretty much consisted of: WHAT? YOU CAN'T DO THAT! NO. WHAT? WTF IS THAT SYNTAX? oh I think I'm getting it WHAT DO YOU MEAN POINTERS DON'T EXIST!?22 -
OK. A friend asked me how I found devRant. Let me tell the story.
I was solving a google code-jam problem. I was in hurry and I missed an intent. I was short in time and the error drove me crazy. so I opened a tab, typed: "fuck python" and the magic happened. The first result was a rant from devRant.12 -
I just typed something in all caps to google and thought "OH, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to yell"3
-
Why do people like non typed languages like php or javascript? Besides from a giant pile of possible security problems what do you get out of it?26
-
It was then, after three hours of trying to get random tests to pass that she realized that when she refactored to make the function more verbose and to add comments, she had accidentally typed one `&` instead of two. And it took someone else looking at it to notice.
Words cannot express how frustrated I am with myself.5 -
TFW you’ve been trying to debug an issue for over an hour and you find out you typed:
variable1 == variable2
Instead of
variable1 = variable2
AARRGGHHHHJJHHHHHRIFNRIDKEJXJDJ!!!!!!!9 -
One of the most infuriating ideas in software development culture is that you can build maintainable applications without a strictly enforced type system and structured data.
Sure, it's more fun to wack around a dynamically typed system until it works or to write a major application with mutable datastructures... It's a least fun until a few years in and you have to debug an unexpected overwrite or a inconsistent use of an object property or whatever.
Anyone who writes maintainable code eventually figures out that you need rules and procedures, the issue with JavaScript, python, ruby, lisp, etc developers is that they think it's us developers that needs to enforce these rules instead of the compiler (which is infinitely better at it).60 -
“Does god exist?”, I typed into a green terminal window after granting GPT-7 root access to our grid. “…now it does”, echoed from every speaker.3

It's. So. Much. Better.8 -

My first PC was a USSR clone of the IBM XT 5160-086 PC, but with a different design, and beefier RAM. I was shown a game in it (barbarian), and the next evening I really wanted to play again, so I inserted the floppy disk, booted up into DOS and Norton Commander, and was stuck. It's my first ever interaction with a computer. So i typed "computer, please give me barbarian".
I was way ahead of the time you could say :) -

Unemployment week 2
I finalized buying ~1000 square feet ( ~95 square meters ) apartment. Still renting 100 square feet room ( ~10 m2 ) so change will be tremendous. It’s first property I will own. With that amount of free space I think I can start constructing small spaceship or time travel machine.
Typed on linkedin that I’m offline.
Phone is still ringing. Time to turn it off for a while and rethink my life and world around from scratch.
Rest is good for my soul.

Goodbye, a night of work!
I just typed "rm * .sh.*" instead of "rm *.sh.*" for deleting the logs from a bunch of qsubs. Yes, I removed the logs... as well as the rest of the files in the folder.
Now, probably because of the lack of sleep, I'm laughing to keep myself from crying.

Create a new, fast, strictly typed programming language with organized project structure, normal package manager, dynamic syntax extensions (that means you can change the syntax of the language if you like!) and (most importantly) if statements which are written like this:
(bananas == 0) -> print 'No bananas!';3 -
I appreciate “elegant” code the same way I appreciate fine wine: pretending to care while quietly sitting, passively listening to snobs drone on about barrel aging and vineyards and languages, statically-typed while simultaneously shutting my brain off, ordering another shot of tequila and working up the courage to fight my dad.

A piece of code someone just pushed:
In pseudocode
------------------------
Function foo()
Result = GetFoo()
If result != null
DoStuff()
Return result
Else
Result = null
--------------------------
Ffs.
It's written in a strongly typed language, and the whole function is in a try with an empty catch and inside yet another try with an empty catch. Guess he wanted to be sure no error got away....
Oh, and he has 9 years of experience, and since all paths don't return something it does not compile12 -
The best thing about perl is it doesn't care about errors and really tries to do what you ask, without throwing exceptions.
The worst? It does exactly what you ask, no matter how insane.
Typed $arri[ $0 ] instead of $arr[0] inside a function that detected what changes were needed in dns zones. $0 is script name and path, strings are converted to integers as needed and there's a little thing called vivification.
You see where this train wreck is going.
Also my dog died today.
Got to love Mondays :/11 -
Quick rant, I dont have time.
I have no idea how the fuck but I managed my IDE to show me that it's confused if my class "PackModel" is "PackModel" or "PackModel" (I have only one definition if you are hands first to ask).
its few years and first time when I see shit like that.
Fun fact, it was working OK until I used getter that was returning another object and than IDE got absolutely lost.
I had to use workaround in middle of nowhere as shown on image and suddenly its back fine with it. Not like it's returned by function hard typed and PHPDoc typed to return instance of this very object and in other scopes it just works...
It's Jetbrains so Im confused, it's robust IDE ;-;...8 -
god i despise these "javascript is bad" articles. everyone seems to be jumping onto that train ever since the WAT talk.
javascript is a *weakly* typed language with implicit type conversions, that's why `{} + []` gives you `0`.
it is not easy to be the most widely used language, and to maintain compatibility across varying platforms.
please think twice before dismissing hard work.
/rant34 -
colleague of mine typed "ButBucket.com" instead and now we're trying to figure out if BitBucket owns the "ButtBucket.com" domain cuz it's $4K a year and that price sounds a little high
Either way I want the domain name2 -
the feeling when you have typed up ans signed a resignation letter and still need to turn it in and "the talk" with your boss.
made all the better by the fact that we are opening a new location in the time span of the 2 weeks notice I'm about to give.
oh and the boss will be going on vacation just after that.2 -
@dfox @trogus Any chance we'll be able to have the comment box a bit smaller and display the current thread at the top of the screen while a user is adding a comment? It would also be cool if we didn't lose everything we typed in if we clicked on the X before posting a comment. I know sometimes I have to take another look at the thread to make sure I am replying correctly. Keep up the good work, guys!2

What the sh*t is this kind of response?! One of my corporate department's internal API returns THIS.
LOOK AT IT. LOOK. "NULL". What are those malformed closing / ending brackets?!
(request headers have accept: application/json btw)
And, as a final "f*uck you", the "IPG_API_JOBD_NC_RESP_P_COLL" is returned as JSON object if response has one element to return, but will be JSON ARRAY if result has more than one element.
Good luck, you there with strongly typed languages..... Boils my blood 😅4 -
Why would anybody use dynamically typed languages? I mean it is lot safer to use static languages, no? No weird bugs, no weird outputs...
How they manage to write such big applications in dynamical languages?17 -
It is sad to say, but programming in C# using Visual Studio basically consists of clicking buttons, dragging and dropping files and checking / unchecking checkboxes in order to get everything generated.
Where are to good old days, when code still had to be typed. :(19 -
You know you've been wired in for a long time and need some sleep when you typed in wrong css property.
#careless #whatissleep4 -
I spent an hour and a half googling and compiling my code because I typed `#ifdef` instead of `ifndef` in one my header files.
Can you C the difference?2 -
Anyone else here typed a really long post about some fuck up, only to delete it because it's not worth it to get so upset?1

Why I hate typescript. Bored during quarantine so thought I rant a little more about this.
1. Compilation time, typescript increases project compilation time from 1 second to 3-4 seconds, which is basically triple or quadruple the time if you don't know math.
2. You write a minimum of 30% more code.
3. Many libraries are not written in TS by default, which means you end up having to manually install a fuckton of @types/(pckg name) manually which is incredibly shit.
4. Typescript is an absolute pain in the ass when using dynamic libraries. Plus when it works, it usually ends up finding maybe 1-2 errors in your code MAX, completely not worth it.
5.JSDoc is 100 times better. (Still don't use it though).
6. I actually enjoy loosely typed languages, having your compiler being smart enough to tell what the type of your input is is much better than it assuming you're a fucking retard so it forces you to manually type everything.
P.S if you hate loosely typed languages, kindly resort to Angular, C#, Java or whatever and leave JS alone, cunt.41 -
Spend past 2 days trying to hunt down a bug...
I forgot `0` evaluates as `false` so this statement always returned `false` if `id` was `0` >.>12 -
1. Kill every last bastard who uses spaces instead of tabs or anyone who thinks that's better.
2. Break every text editor that has the option of transforming beautiful code tabs into hideous spaces.
3. Make a statically typed language that's good enough to replace JS and the pile of hacks we have in the web today.12 -
Hey dear HR people and Headhunters - learn to write proper Joboffers - when someone is a JavaScript developer and even writes JavaScript for 10 years for a living doesnt mean he can or wants to write strict typed TypeScript out of the box using an library ecosystem and NOT a framework already written with TypeScript (React vs Angular)
Write TypeScript developers in the job offers when you search them: TypeScript !== JavaScript.6 -
I was doing a demo and went to quickly launch PGAdmin from Start. I hit the Start key and typed "pgad" because that usually works as an application launcher for "PGAdmin". Cortana decided to ignore the program in the start menu and instead showed the audience info about about PGAD.
A whole room full of people now know about
PERSISTENT GENITAL AROUSAL DISORDER
Thanks Cortana.11 -
Stop. Using. Fucking. ADA. To. Teach. Basic. Programming.
I wouldn't say you should use a dynamically typed language like Python, but having programed since high school, I hated each and every aspect of Ada. We were even taught OOP and generics with it! (And not, you do not want to know how it is, because it is dreadful)9 -

Hey everybody been a while but I have a rant. Swift fucking swift and IOS dev. Okay so been learning swift for some frontend casual work, no worries they are lending me a mac to work in.
Now comes the rant part IOS is fine to work in I dont have any qualms about platform but.. FOR THE LOVE OF COMMON FUCKING SENSE GET SOME FUCKING CONSISTENCY.
You have made swift statically typed language to supposedly make developing more consistant and better fine no worries i dont like static typed languages cause they are unnecessary but fine. then you go NAH FUCK IT EVERYTHING IN A MODULE IS IN GLOBAL SCOPE, FUCK IMPORT STATEMENTS, FUCK MAINTAINABILITY AND FUCK YOU FOR ASKING.6 -
Wow, i'm pretty sure that's not what i typed lol. Looks like we got another way to write 'Paris'.. (:1

When I was a bord 12 year old I stumbled across a site called Codecademy and being the bored kid I was I decided to sign up and try a tutorial. I opened up the HTML tutorial and typed <p>Hello World</p> and I was just amazed that I could tell a computer how to do that. From that point on I was hooked1
-
The people that religiously put "missing docstring" on code reviews... Like, I get why but... Who hurt you? Especially in typed languages, where there's a function called "can compute stuff" with a foo type, and I add a docstring that's "whether we can compute stuff for the given foo"...5
-
Looking for a random pic for work I typed "img" on DuckDuckGo and child pornography appeared.
I sent an email to report the crap, but no reply back.
What should I do more?4 -
Am I the only one that doesn't like Java? I mean I don't hate it or say it's bad. It's pretty clear that it has been probably the most influential language after C. I just don't like how typed and verbose it is, also I feel old just using it or something based on it (like Jenkins)13
-
"Can you look at this bug when inputting negative numbers?"
I check the app and think, "negative numbers don't make sense here".
Sure enough there is validation in place to prevent negative numbers being typed.
Yet they still managed...
By pasting in negative numbers, after being unable to type them, thinking "fuck it I'll paste it instead", then complaining to us because they abused our app.
Seriously.
Fuck.

Typed crontab - r instead of
crontab - e, gonna be a long weekend to recover crons from log files.3 -
Create a bug-free compiler for a Lang like c# but a little less overcomplicated and a lot faster. I don't believe a strictly typed and garbage collected language needs to be much less than half as fast as c++.2

My dev lead is a uniquely poor leader with an impressive ability to produce a large amount inflexible, temporarily functional code.
As we're in another pair programming session where I try to keep him from destroying over all type safety and architectural decisions to meet a self imposed demo deadline, he keeps trying to access properties of his state.
This state object is incorrectly typed with an anonymous type with incorrect properties.
Despite repeating calmly stating that the object is incorrectly typed, and that's why there are red underlines when he tries to access a property he knows is in there, he insists that that's not correct.
Finally, he knowingly says that he's figured it out and that he's been doing this for many years.
What was the solution you might ask? (state as any).myProperty;
Truly breathtaking mastery. -

Wow man. Can the day get any worse
Mother fucker creator of Android. Now I'm A long time android user, but
Android+Snapdragon 6XX chip+Moto= worst combo ever. Damn you creators, may You be deepfucked by a mad bison in heat. Cocksuckers.
The heat my Moto X play generates, I could make an omelette on top of it. And the newest feature, where you try to type, but you can't see anything happening, when 30 secs later, you suddenly start seeing the after images of all the buttons you pressed, all the text you typed. Why maybe I typed at the speed of light and android couldn't keep up. No.
NO! You dumb fuckin POS. NO. I threw my phone 20ft, broke the tempered glass. The case protected this shit. Once I can save enough, I'll either sell a kidney and get an iPhone or even better a OP5.
Nothing disgusts me more than slow hardware.12 -
I HAD typed up a big, long rant... but then I deleted it because as much as I WANT to rant today, I realized I'd prefer to still have a job tomorrow (yeah, I know, could always do a throwaway account, but fuck that). It's just one of those days in paradise.8

Hey everyone!
Today I learned that true is not boolean and my functions typed for bool can actually return bool OR true!3 -
A friend of mine (beginner) wrote a Python script that calculated the derivative function of an function the user typed in. He showed it to me and
I said: "You should not use eval()!"
He: "Oh, ok. May you write a parser?"
I: "Wait! It's ok. Just use eval!" 😂6 -
Dear godot editor, i know i havent closed the (, you dont have to remind me 3 microseconds after i typed it4

I admit i don't like JavaScript... not one bit and mainly because it is not strongly typed. The idea of Typescript is interesting.
Anyways, i decided to jump in and learn Angular... So do you guys have any advice for me?10 -
I like how it's lowly becoming more and more a typed language.
Anyway, nice updates, but don't really see much changes overall

Write a bridge that converts an arbitrary set of CLI params into a JSON that is to be converted into an object of arbitrary type. In a strongly typed language.
And it's midnight already...
Man, I need to get some sleep! Afraid my swelled brain might go POOFFT!3 -
So I was waiting on a mysqldump for over a halfhour wondering why it was taking way to fcking long.
But then I saw I typed mysql -u user -p database > dump.sql
Instead of using the mysqldump command xD at moments like this you realize how important sleep is xD -
Well I program in PHP, JS and C#.
Weak typed variables are literally the worst thing ever.
In C# I particularly hate the way callback as handled9 -
I quietly refactored an entire NodeJS express in-house framework that was written in Java style (dependency injection, inheritance, inversion of control) and split it into typed, composable, parameterized, testable middlewares in 2 weeks (including some complicated ones like a custom Openid Connect flow)
Now comes the hard part: convincing the Java-devs who wrote it that it is useful3 -
When I first began with Python I really missed the static typed checking from Java, I barely know anything about a returned object from a method and have to read the API extensively for every new library.
After a while I finally understand why Python is so powerful, the combination of dynamic typed language and rich default methods make the language unbeatable for your productivity.
While Java's Object only has toString(), hashCode(), equals() or clone(), Python's basic Class has every fucking method for every scenario I could ever image. No wonder that libraries like numpy or pandas work so well and fluidly.8 -
Potentially hot take : If you're making a video course on a tool that supports multiple languages you should show examples in a language with explicit typing whenever possible.
Weakly typed and implicitly typed languages make it harder to know what the results of a particular statement are and therefore what you can do with them.6 -
After creating my own PHP MVC framework with Twig as templating engine, everything is now so simple and so fast, I juat cant belive how much I understand now. The development is just so smooth, you know exactly what to do all the time... And for my simple project, it does not even hurt that much to use PHP (and its even strictly typed 7.2, so not that bad). I think that I am in love. ❤6

This afternoon, I was sitting in on a class, not really paying attention to what the teacher was saying, when all of a sudden out of nowhere the teacher shoots me with the question what is "1260 divided by 30?" Thakfully I was messing with my python interpreter, so I just typed in 1260/30 yelled, (as if I knew the answer) "42!"
Genius.5 -
What I absolutely love to do is refactoring. With strongly typed languages, I often just remove or change something and then follow the compiler errors to finish the refactoring by fixing them.
It‘s not just a matter of renaming something. I will reliably get all the places in code which are affected by the change.
How do you handle that with weakly typed languages like JS? I can only imagine how horrible of an experience refactoring would be.7 -
Year 7 maths in 1984 - the teacher had a computer and showed us some BASIC commands to do mathematics.
I was spellbound. That year my father also bought a Commodore 64 for the family and I gravitated towards it. I typed program listings out of magazines and learnt programming almost by osmosis.1 -
How the actual fuck? Today I found another page where I can't sign up because the fields do not recognize when I typed in them in firefox.
One of those sites is to change passw of university account.
Guess what browser they recommend...4 -
Dammit! I don't know how many times I've typed "mov x y" in my terminal tonight...
I finally gave in and set an alias for it.
Damned x86 assembly... -
I haven't killed a process in a long time so I typed, "man kill".
Why do I feel so triggered right now?3 -
Went through some of the first code I ever wrote and saw that I had typed bar == !true...

Am I the only one who despises loosely typed languages? I hate web development for the sole reason that JavaScript and PHP are both loosely typed.3
-
My team lead at my summer internship hailed from an MFC background.
I was able to dictate a whole block of jQuery code to her orally while I was in a hurry to go for lunch, and she typed it in. And it ran perfectly in the first time itself.
jQuery isn't a great deal, but it was a confidence booster for a guy who had only worked with JS for a week. -
typed "<blink>" in Google, then words that says "blink" started blinking .
Glad to see such an ancient tag still work on huge websites...3 -
Wanted to ask a friend an Angularjs question but was away from my laptop.
typed a full working factory on my phone from scratch....2 -
I totally forgot how bad working with JavaScript is. After like a year of working with properly typed TypeScript base where navigation and documentation works very well, now I am in a world where IDE (IntelliJ IDEA) does very little, essentially it's just now a stupid editor. After few days I miss TypeScript already.
-
Back in my college, my professor was trying to demonstrate how to install hadoop using my laptop.
Now, he asked me to type my password
Even I thought it was asking my password. So I started typing it but my password was my crush's name (aakank....).
I typed till aaka and then realized what happened.
Fortunately I was able to handle the situation by typing
"Aakanakabaka" and saved my self.1 -
I like going to random Google subdomains. Today I had a typo when seeing where "timer.google.com" goes, but I later learned I had a made a typo, and typed "timex." Well, looks like a great time to buy a watch.1

Today I sat with my manager wanting to show him the analytics.
I started typing the address and the chrome prediction went up so I pressed enter.
Unfortunately I typed only the first four letters and the prediction disappeared so I googled something totally different 😫2 -
Python. Oh dear Python. Why, oh why, when I have your function with parameters defined as an int, do you blithely accept a string and just go about your merry day? If I wanted you to be able to accept a string I would have let you accept a string. But no, I want ints. Its not a suggestion. Its a demand.
You're dynamically-typed thug life gets on my static-typed backgrounds nerves.
(I am fully aware of the reasons for it and why, but my goodness I do sometimes miss my static-typed compile error languages, rather than pseudocode that accidently compiles python)25 -
I've tried to give it many chances, but I just don't think Python will ever be for me. Even "quick and dirty" scripts are faster for me in a statically-typed language with static syntax checking and sensible code completion.8
-
Used to Google all my `man` pages... Don't really know why. Formatting maybe. Then I typed `man date`... I use `man` for my `man` pages now.3
-
I find dynamically typed language a lot easier to read and understand than statically typed language.
What's up with all these interfaces, types and abstractions, its just too much!
I do want structure when writing code, but also the flexibility to test things without the f*** interface/type errors!!!16 -
#wk6 coolest bug: it was first year CS and we were learning data structures. the assignment was a maze solver using stacks. I couldn't figure out the issue I had and went to sleep. my dream that night was in code (one of a few times it's happened) and I woke up mid-night and typed it in and it worked. slept like a baby after that.
-
I had a coding interview with Amazon. I had to implement a depth-first search algorithm with no prior experience while 2 devs watched me code on a collaborative IDE. To make it worse, the connection was terrible on the conference call and one of the interviewers had a very thick accent. I barely understood what they wanted me to do until I typed out:
Breadth-first search || Depth-first search?
// Sorry, phone keeps cutting off and I can barely hear you
Yeah, I didn't make it to the next round. :(2 -
My laptop's enter key stopped working today and while testing what the problem is, accidentally typed "vi" in terminal. FML!!!3

Today I trolled my Italian dev colegue by telling him that I like to listen to creepypasta but I wrote the word like this: "creepy pasta" he typed for 10 minutes but only sent the following:
"Your... listening to pasta Barilla ... ?"
I hope to troll him more in the future.4 -
Can someone please tell me what is so attractive about a dynamically typed language? It's not like it makes anyone's life easier – it just leads to more unexpected errors.7

Install Instagram, Facebook.
Utter words like "Gaming Laptop" "Predator" "MSI" while screen being locked.
Voila, you get an ad.
PS: I swear I didn't search for any MSI or gaming laptops in google or even typed those words in recent past.5 -
Been using nodejs for a rest API. It may be the old fart in me, but I'm regretting using it instead of a normal static typed language. I hope something changes my mind soon, or I'll go through a case of sunken cost fallacy.3

You know you have been coding with CSS Preprocessor for far too long when you typed this in regular stylesheet and wondering why it doesn't work...
#container {

Why the font doesn't align to center!!! @&$#+%*^2 -
Super late at night that it's pretty much morning, got another cup of coffee and now looking at my code trying to figure out where I fucked up, for hours and VSC doesn't show that I have any errors.... 4 hours later, still looking and I finally notice it.... I typed (options.lenght) instead of length...2

For the longest time I've had trouble trying to get my background images full screen viewed and responsive for some components while learning angular 2. Then some one typed this in the CSS
Min-height: 100vh; for height
It felt like I had a heart attack and spontaneous orgasim at the same time.2 -
#TIL that you can navigate part of your Linux commands with CTRL like CTRL+A gets you to the beginning of the typed command, CTRL+D deletes the forward command and CTRL+E gets you to the end of the typed command.
NONE OF THIS WAS FOUND IN ANY LINUX-FU LESSONS! THESE WERE WAY EASIER TO USE THAN USING THE ARROW KEYS GODDAMMIT!2 -
Not much of a rant, just laughing at myself. Typed in docker run android instead of cordova run android and sat there waiting for a minute or 2 😂

I don't understand why languages like JavaScript and PHP decided to bolt on typing and object-oriented stuff retroactively. In fact, it actually makes me kind of angry.
The whole point of weakly-typed languages is so that you don't have to worry about the types. Everything that you do to an object is evaluated at runtime. The advantage of this is so you don't have to worry about types which improves speed of development. You do lose the benefits of strongly-typed languages, but I'm assuming everyone who uses a weakly-typed language is ok with that tradeoff, otherwise they would be using a strongly-typed language.
But then they go and add strongly-typed things to weakly-typed languages, like they somehow "discovered" that there are actually benefits to using strongly-typed languages. The thing is that adding this back in just dilutes the weakly-typed nature of the language to the point where you don't really get the benefits of its strongly-typed-ness or its weakly-typed-ness. And don't tell me you can just use either, because if you're working on a project with multiple people you can never really be sure what is going to happen if both the options are there.
I have an idea, how about we let Java be good at what it's good at and let JavaScript be good at what it's good at, and stop trying to make them into the same language. Languages have strengths and weaknesses and that's ok. We just have to learn what they are and when it's good to use certain languages over others.10 -
what do you guys think is a good language to use when teaching the basics of coding? i've been thinking about it and i think something strongly typed would be the best, but i don't want to choose something too restrictive with errors, since i will be teaching for people that are not interested to working in the field11
-
I've been typed cast as a VB.NET WebForms developer. Don't let it happen to you!!!
Off to an Angular code meetup where I'll pretend I use it in my career.1 -
Every once in a while the flexibility of dynamic types comes back and bites you in the ars:
So I created method that returns the date significance (day, month, year) or null when no date is set.
I chose a class constant DAY with the value 0.
This is not a problem in if statements as I always use === but in this case a switch made more sense. And as you can guess no date set (NULL) was handled in the self::DAY (0) case... 😐😑😶 Silently resulting in wrong results when no date is given! #£#@$& (and other comic swearing symbols)
Even though php7 finally has decent type hinting resulting in much clearer defined API's we can still go very wrong.
More love to Go for less verbose static typing! To bad we can rarely use it at the office 😥2 -
Bro typescript is sooooooo gooood...
holy shit!
coming from a cpp/java background it feels like a fucking relief to know something like typescript exists and you dont have to blindly trust the dynamically typed crap10 -
C# :
Welcome to C#, as it is a very powerfull and typed language you will never have issues with Equals and "==".
Also C# : (image)
Edit : It's actually wrking as expected, but I would';ve guessed that "==" would wotk for basic types11 -
I just started learning java cause i have to because of uni, and i heavily used JS before , but somehow i really love the statically typed syntax and it brings so much clarity about what everything is doing.
Also love how object oriented everything is5 -

Python is a language I love to use. But after using a typed language I just so wanted that feature in Python. And guess what, there's already a project that does that - mypy! Static typing for Python. Just wow!1 -
As an Android user I constantly think I coulda got a better cheaper phone.
Such is life **typed from my Moto G**3 -
Prank on me: at an Avaya training, my instructor decided to take over my desktop terminal screen and override any text I typed. I was like, WTF?! I thought my terminal was corrupted or something. Heh. I heard her laughing behind my back, and I gave her the evil eye stare heh. That's when I also learned about hacking terminals and how much fun that was. :P
-
I can't get over how absurd this is:
a = "123456"
a = int(a)
Is it just me or do you have to let go of everything you hold dear, embrace Satan, and sell your soul to be able to code in Python.10 -
Anyone else notice themselves simplifying their English text / conversations (typed or verbal) because they've been doing code for so many years?
I barely even English anymore cuz code is more expressive so I think in it's grammar;2 -
There are two typed of computer users; ones that use capslock to capitalize the first letter in their words and the ones that uses shift. I don't count people that doesn't capitalize properly humans so I excluded them.3

Screw Java. Spent the last two days in this language and it's driving me to fits. Tried making a generic function. Java can't seem to easily handle generic typed arrays. Java threw a fit when I converted an array function to an integer function. Java has all this stupid boilerplate code that you put on every stupid thing.
Programming in Java is about as pleasurable as running face first into a brick wall.2 -
Some times I get these weird ideas.
The machines now rule the world and they decided humans will not be able to program them anymore. That's why they enslaved you as part of the committee which will create the next computer language: Cryptic Script.
What feature would you add to it?
(try something real)
I'll starting by saying Cryptic Script is dynamically typed.6 -
I uploaded my static site on AWS. Doesn't load when I typed the public IP in the URL. Googled, found StackOverflow answer to traffic and ports as a security group to AWS. Tried it and it still doesn't work.
Hey Bluehost, sorry I left but I'm back now7 -
My teacher's sent a survey to EVERYONE on my grade level with a hand typed link that also dosent work if you fix all the errors. Oh and they disabled comments so I can't even tell them what's wrong. My input is so important they made sure to have a non-existent link.4

So after programming in the Vue framework, I have developed a habit of Ctrl + S for anytime I would usually use Enter. I just typed in setting in the search bar and press Ctrl + S.
What are your habits you took up from programming and just cannot shake it down in day to day life.7 -
The best thing about getting used to vim is typing something in a website, finishing it, pressing ctrl+[ losing what you have just typed and re writring it.

The project I have been working on was growing and growing and growing... It reached it a point where the front-end was really hard to maintain. The worst part was the communication protocol, we were using JSON to serialize really complex objects.
I took some initiative and suggested that we use protobuf instead of JSON. Long story short, data usage is 10% of what it used to be, serialization and deserialzation is much faster, and the best of all, everything is strongly typed, with auto generated classes. Fucking awesome!1 -
Telling someone about devRant.... typed devTent (no idea if it was auto corrected)... wait! it seems correct in the other way1

Deepfakes concerns me also thinking how to solve this problem
Just watched vox video on it
Went to PornHub and typed “Deepfakes”
What i see is just too concerning Think about it guys how would you feel if that was one of your family member who is victim.
Not Cool !!26 -
I was writing in Haskell GHC - and after I got tired of fixing some tuple problem I had no idea about, I typed "fix bugs" and pressed enter....

I'm about to start learning Android development. First it's the obligatory Get Started, then a couple of Udemy courses. After doing javascript for so long, i think it'll be nice to use a strongly typed language again (Java is my first language; college you know).
But, I'm REALLY not looking forward to Gradle wasting my time--it took two minutes to even start up the IDE for the initial project.
Ah well, nothing's perfect3 -

Am I the only one to this date who still doesn't feel comfortable using the NumPad? I always have the NumLock key turned off and people who borrow my computer get annoyed by that. I've always typed numbers using the row above the letters. Typing numbers on the NumPad is very slow and unnatural to me. Is someone else out there feeling the same?4

We had C project in school about multi-process communication and syscalls. We worked in groups of three.
I made a "framework"(header file) with important prototypes and definitions of needed variable sizes.
One of group member decided to null his variable by bzero syscall (writes null bytes). He ignored my framework and typed literal "sizeof". Ofc nulled double the needed value and it nulled another variable with some TCP packet also.
Spend week trying to find what is wrong with it.
I hate group projects. -
I swear! I just typed some words, I pressed [Enter] key and....
Oh my good, I broke the machine ...
I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry !
PS: this message is not alone, I found another one about a deprecated function once I clicked on a link... -
Thought my PC was locked, turns out the screen was just asleep.
Only found this out after I typed my password into a WhatsApp web chat and hit enter...2 -
Either I am too sensitive with my name or I just can't stop laughing when someone keep misspelled my English name, "Michael" into "Micheal".
I know it doesn't sound like a big deal but... *eye-roll*
Anyway, I am still wondering that what wording or how does it take for them to accidentally typed from 'ae' into 'ea'..?
Super curious here.3 -
At this point in tech, what's the point of sending a company your typed resume instead of just a link to your LinkedIn?10

I Really get fedup with all the software I come accross and sometimes buy, that is in an unfinished state, esspecially my Job software, the save button saves the current data typed into the previous file opened and not the current running file. The Taborder is not flowing good, the process button is before the last input. And the service, I mentioned it to the inhouse developer at HQ, but he said I am using it wrong.3

Just finished a hackathon this past week trying to hone my skills in node. However, the amount of time I spent debugging stupid type errors was...quite miserable to say the least. Because of that, I’m looking for a new web library or framework XD. Anyone have some fun alternatives with languages that are preferably strongly typed?2

Just finished building app with Laravel and vue.js with routers, vuex and coupled js, running on php 7.4 using typed properties
Next 2 projects Wordpress and Typo3.....
Why is world so cruel....1 -
i dont know typescript and thus hate it
why can't my fucking ide extract the type of a thing
i've no fucking clue if it's a function or not or the syntax
statically typed language gang rise up,
dynamic can be good for certain use cases and if you know what you're doing i suppose3 -
Imagining all of the disapproving faces of your relatives while you lie in the storm drain, hearing the wails of the other fallen who neglected to account for the crappy economy, wishing you had just typed in those two words that could have saved you from a life of ineptitude caused by procrastination.
"Hello World."
//Basically imagine the worst possible outcome. Ask your parents for helpful suggestions -
There should be no debate about
statically typed vs dynamic,
functional vs imperative,
single vs multi namespace
(lisp-1 vs lisp-2),
or anything like that:
it always boils down to
simple vs complex,
where
simple is the unquestioned winner.2 -
OK. We've got this tiny little pet project of mine (work related)…
I rescued it from the git archive, simply put: someone hot glued an elasticsearch scroll + document processor (processing) together.
After a lot of refactoring, I had an simple, much improved (non-parallel) Akka Worker System without an Akka topology / hierarchy.
I left out the hierarchy at first, because I didn't know Akka at all.
I've worked with a lot of process workflows, and some systems that come very close to IPC, so I wasn't completely in the dark.
Topology requires knowledge / creation of a state machine / process workflow. And at that point of time I just had... Garbage. Partially working garbage.
I finished yesterday the rewrite into several actors... Compared to before, there are 8 actors vs 2... And round about 20 classes more. Mostly since I rewrote the Receive Methods of Akka as Command DTOs... And a lot of functions needed to be seperated into layers (which where non existent before)
Since that felt more natural than the previous chaos of passing strings or other primitive types around, or in the worst case just object....
(Yes: Previously an Actor was essentially a class with one or more functions "doEverything" and maybe a few additional functions which did everything - from Rest Client to Processing)).
Then I draw the actual state machine based on everything I've written in the last weeks and thought about how to create the actual topology and where / how parallelizing might make sense.
Innocent me stumbled in the Akka Docs on Akka Typed... (Didn't know it existed, since I'm very new to Java and Akka).
Hm, that sounds an a lot like what I did. In an different way, yes. But not so different that it might be VERY hard to port to.... And I need to change (for implementation of hierarchy) a few classes....
[I should have known at this stage that my curiosity would get the best of me, but yeah. Curiosity killed the cat.]
Actually the documentation is not bad. It's just that upon reading the first more complex examples, my brain decided to go into panic state.
The've essentially combined all classes in one class in all source code examples [which makes sense more sense later], where it is fscking hard for an chaotic brain like mine to extract information....
https://doc.akka.io/docs/akka/...
The thing is: It's not hard to understand… actually very simple.
It was just my brain throwing an fuck you tantrum.
So I've opened more examples in other tabs and cross referenced what happened there and why...
Few frustrated hours later I got that part.... And the part why it's called Akka Typed. It was pretty simple....
Open the gates of hell, bloody satan that was too easy for fucks sake.
Nooooow.... I just need to port my stuff to Akka Typed.
Cause. Challenge accepted, bitch - eh brain. You throw tantrum, you work overtime. -.-
I just cannot decide wether to go FP or OOP.
Now... I'm curious wether FP is that hard... Hadn't dealt with it at large before.
Can someone please stop me... I'm far too curious again. -.- *cries*6 -
I started with logo where you typed commands to run logo. I wrote a script to create shapes. Started web dev in college when a friend taught me bit of php. I felt that it was the best thing ever. I just couldn't stop exploring more and more since that day. I've worked with c/c++ projects too.

Just typed this into the Python interpreter and my whole system just froze. Guess I have to do a force shutdown.
x = list(range(1, 999999999))
So is there a way you can somehow configure your linux system such that the window manager/system is never out of memory or processor time? So that atleast I get can atleast kill the process which is freezing the system.3 -
When you are trying to write event handlers in JavaScript and nothing is working so you spend hours and hours trying to figure out what the fuck is wrong with your js code only for it to be a duplicate id. Fuck sake. I really wish JavaScript warned you about duplicate ids, but then again that's what you get for using such a weakly typed language.

Just typed a comment for like 5 minutes on website version of devRant.
The red of the button got marked on my eyes, so I have now an area of the eyes that sees blue tint.
Yay -
Bug: "attach img/gif", select the Dropbox app to select an img from, select an img -> devRant android app returning back to the starting screen, not to the recently typed rant, the entry hasn't been saved...3

So I just tried to restart my dns caching service while conversing with someone. I typed 'sudo shutdown -r now'. 🙊

Was trying to solve an error for half an hour and it ended up me being stupid because I typed userame instead of username

I was trying to add someone to a team project on visual studio team services; i saw "no identites found" when i typed their email in so i thought it wasn't the correct way
I wandered around fiding nothing, eventually coming back to the first form
I type the email again, i don't pay attention to "no identities found" and add anyway : it works
wow didn't expect it to be that simple1 -
I think I was around the age of 11, and got a brand new C64 with 1541 floppy. The manual of the included floppy disc with some programs described the program startup with 'load "name",8,1'
So I typed (exactly that) 'load "name",8,1' and got '?FILE NOT FOUND ERROR', did it again, same error.
After half an hour of reading the manual and trying it several times, I gave up and went to a friend with a C64. I told him the disc doesn't work, if he could help me out.
He put the floppy disc in and typed 'load "frogger",8,1' and seeing the command I realized what a tremendous idiot I was.
Surely it worked, he could play frogger.
Went home desperate and broken with my disc and from that day on I could operate that machine.
I soon started to play around with basic and a bit of assembler. -
Question: What tools/software do you use to write API documentation of applications with NodeJs back-end (assuming that you can not use tools like ex: sweager for weakly typed languages)?2
-
Hey, VS2019 thanks suddenly stopping to notify me and just loading external changes without telling me. It's not like I needed the changes I just fucking typed or anything.1

Sometimes I really don't know how else to put it lmao, I'm on the level of caffeine crash and overtiredness that I literally typed in "clear" to the Windows file save dialog. I swear Python has made me suffer for longer than Java has, and that says something. Help.3

Quotes typed in Outlook are not the same as quotes typed in Visual Studio, or SSMS. Just so you don't spend hours trying to figure out WTF is wrong with you code, only to face palm.1

Writing a large file/making lots of edits, going to save, and then realizing you typed "nano some_system_file" instead of "sudo nano some_system_file"

How do case insensitive searches work?
Usually if I needed case insensitivity, I'd probably just store all the keys in lowercase and for searches convert whatever is typed to lowercase.
But what about Google. Can't convert everything to lower.
And if need to check the lower and upper case of each letter, like in a Tree, you would need to go down 2^N paths?20 -
Typed a long rant and deleted it thinking I shouldn't post it....now after posting this i can't post the rant for 2 more hrs1

Posting here after more than a year and getting through the pandemic.
I typed more lines of code during this pandemic compared to last 2 years. -
Why on earth does the Bit Bucket user search when assigning an issue bring up every bloddy user until you typed their name fully.
Surely, team mates should show first.
Maybe JiRA is better?2 -
Hi, in my JS project I have to update a variable value that is getting a text input's value in order to use it dynamically with different functions across my program. What would be the best approach to doing this?
Should I make a function that updates the variable for every character typed or should I simply get the value when the function is called?
Thanks!2
