I don't understand why so many people fight this war of tabs vs spaces. My colleagues elegantly solved the problem just not using indentation at all36
-
Love working with atom using this theme in coffeeshops, making people think I'm a top hacker, when in reality I'm just stuck with css classes or something. Equally stupid.25
-
"Why are people using Git? It's too complicated. Dropbox can do the same kind of things."
- A fellow CS student at university26 -
People are worried that AI will replace them in their jobs.
But guys.
We are still using php.
I think we are safe for the next 200 years.18 -
A few years ago, i got a call which went like this:
Phone: *rings*
Me: *looks at call, recognises the number and picks up*
Me: "Hello! Haven't heard from you in a while! How are you doing?"
Him: "I have a problem with my PC, could you..."
Me: *hangs up*
Aside from not even getting a "hello, how are you?" at the start of the call, here's the plot-twist:
A - This was my goddamn Brother calling
B - It was my goddamn birthday23 -
😤😤😤 People need to stop believing these sheets in fortune cookies, they are printed using a Linux binary!10
-
Teacher: answer this question without Googling
Me : *gives answer after using DDG*
When will people realize that Google isn't the only way to browse the internet15 -
Dear people of Subway, just because i am using cmd, it doesnt mean i am
"Hacking your wifi network" and asking me to stop is rather unneccessary25 -
Person: "I'm using Ubuntu. It's my first time using Linux. It looks pretty nice and it works for me."
People: "Eww. Loser. Ubuntu sucks! I'm a Linux god."
Person: "I think PHP is fine and has improved."
People: "Yikes. Don't use PHP. Everyone hates it."
Person: "I like using Angular. It gets the Job done."
People: "Boo! Use React. Angular sucks!"
So there you go, kids. If you wanna stay cool, listen to other people's opinion and their way of thinking. No need to really immerse and try out the tools that seem to work for you.16 -
I work for my university's IT Helpdesk, I asked a customer what browser they were using and they said WiFi.... How do these people have six-figure jobs?!3
-
Started using longer passphrases for logins, colleague starts to tell people I'm doing bad things because"no one needs a password that long"
I get reprimanded by my boss
How the hell does this even happen smh13 -
The number of people using high end versions of mac just for working on some spreadsheet and watching videos on youtube is just too damn high..15
-
I hate Internet Explorer, I hate Microsoft for developing it, I hate people using it and I hate companies forcing their employees to use it 😤6
-
I hate trying to support old browsers.
If we keep supporting old sh*t, people will never stop using it.11 -
Someone replied to the Christmas party invitation using REPLY ALL... his family personal details sent to hundreds of people. Wait, it gets even worse: he works in the SECURITY DEPARTMENT.5
-
What people say : My computer is a mess and it works damn slow.
What I hear : I don't know fuck about using a computer2 -
I don't get why people are still using WinRAR. I discovered 7-zip years ago and while it's very minimalistic, open source and ad-free (also without any annoying "buy me now" shit), there has never been an archive I couldn't open using it.10
-
Subtle irony:
Tons of people rant about how bad PHP is on devRant.
devRant's is built using PHP.
Love it4 -
I hate how people think that to be a "hacker" or hacking is this special job title. lol. Hacking is just using something in a way in which it was not intended to be used.
So pretty much think ...anal sex.
There. Now many people are "hackers"6 -
People who try to justify not writing unit tests are the same as those who try to justify not using a condom.
You'll be sorry later.4 -
People ranting about Microsoft acquiring Github also happens to be using VSCode in another window.10

Waisting some times on codewars.com

3 kyu challenge:
Given a string with mathematical operations like this: ‘3+5*7*(10-45)’, compute the result
~~~~~
*Does a quick and easy one liner in python using eval()*
*sees people actually writing some 100 lines parsing the string and calculating using priority of operation*
Poor them...
(Btw, passed to lvl 4 kyu thx to this)14 -
People here are arguing about a guy using MS word as a HTML IDE,
My boss once showed me how blind people read "colors" by running his fingers over the phone screen.2 -
I hate when people give me shit for using a Mac. You can use whatever you prefer, let me use what I like.13
-
Have people using React actually read the license agreement? Basically, if Facebook want your app, they can develop a similar, and revoke your license to React...14
-
why is it so hard to convince people to start using slack chat and giving up sending internal emails?10
-
Non IT people controling the IT departments and ruining the development culture.
No one (where i am from) anymore considers the software life cycles, initial r&d work, normalized relational db or using proper algorithms. All this stuff is critical for critical systems but people just want the softwares to work on the front end and make money, no matter if its all duct taped underneath. And I strongly believe this is happening because of non IT people and marketers sitting on top of IT departments.
Computer science people have kind of lost all respect. They are constantly yelled at by non IT people and asked to do year's job in months.
This makes me sad19 -
People always asked me how I got started with Python, I always have to come up with a reason to hide the fact that I started using it because I like the name13
-
I hate these LINUX AND NOTHING ELSE fascists. Why don't you just let people use what they want? And btw: just using Linux doesn't make you a good programmer...18
-
The last startup I worked at didn't give us the WiFi password because they "didn't want people to get distracted by unnecessarily using internet on their phones". Little did they know that making a hotspot from a laptop is totally a thing...5
-
I feel like devRant is now a study experiment to test how long a software can run without maintenance and how long people are willing to keep using it.16
-
I think if I ever got a stress ball I would end up throwing it at people who cause me stress instead of using it for its intended purpose4
-
People complaining about Microsoft pushing MS-Edge are clearly not using the YouTube mobile app, this shit pushes their premium shit and YouTube music every fucking day. MS you get ONE pop up when you change default browser and they are done! Also Google products one concurrent browsers ? You get that nice yellow message telling you you're not using chrome but people just like to tell shit about MS like it's the national sport or something well fuck you and fuck Google5
-
Easy cop out for people who wrote code vulenerable to SQL injection: It's not a bug, it's a feature that let's users search using SQL syntax.1
-
People should fucking document their code. I have to implement something using someone's code. And I have no idea what I'm doing.6
-
I'd like to tell a story about a friend I once knew. She was good at her job, but only her job. People loved her so much, but when the people got interested in things other than her job, they took her with them. She was forced to do things she couldn't do as well, and all because people couldn't change. She feels overused, overworked, and she still tries to keep her head up. People need to stop using her.
#KeepJavaScriptOnTheWeb5 -
There's a few people in here who are clearly mentally ill and using devrant instead of getting help.
I just want to say thank you to those individuals for making this place what it is! This place would suck without you.13 -
"We're going to need to migrate our database and reformat it so it works with the new app."
Translation: we've been using Excel up until this point and need you to convert it to SQL. Oh god, people.2 -
Kinda tired of people telling me that I'm "wrong" for using PHP. There's nothing inherently wrong with PHP. Any language is only as good as the developer using it, and so long as you're comfortable using it and it does what you need it to do, there's no shame in using ANY programming language. Don't let the these cocky "bro"grammers tell you how to do your job.15
-
How does programming influence a programmers daily life?
1. We start counting from zero.
2. We observe software more than using it. What is the algorithm behind it? Which Data structure is used?
3. Greeting people with "hello world".
4. Assigning variables to people.12 -
Not a software bug but an organisational bug...
Employees holding the door to other people so they can come into a secured building without using their identity badges.
I look like an asshole everytime I refuse to let people I don't know in because most people let them in...12 -
There's a strong correlation between the people that think Windows 10 is 'terrible', and those that take a photograph of their monitor using their phone.4
-
Can people just fucking stop using "hacked" as a synonym for "my password has been found out"? Even devs do this shit! Devs should know better about what a "hacked" account is.14
-
"Why am I a horrible person for following standard linting and thus not using semicolon in my JavaScript code?"
Next rant
"Sometimes I think people who don't use semicola in JavaScript should be shot on the spot."
Lol, love you devrant3 -
I love Linux, use it almost daily
, but those windows update horror storys aren't happening when I'm using windows.
I think those days are gone, and people are just hating.27 -
I really hate it when people asks for help on forums and mailing lists by taking a screen capture of code instead of pasting the text or using a gist or pastebin or any other USEFUL way to share code.2
-
I work at a startup and our office is inside a collab-space. Last week they organized a workshop called:
"Using the blockchain to prevent loeliness".
And even worse: people were paying to attend it :(7 -
Well, sh*t.
There is special hell for people using GOTO in C and even more special hell for people using it in *this* context.9 -
Do not steer away from projects using technologies you may not know or be comfortable in. Instead worked your hardest to get it right, ask lots of questions and don't be insulted if people find issues in your code. It's a learning experience.
-
The more time you spend on devRant the more you notice how people:
1) cant understand that other people use other tools
2) cant understand that they actually enjoy using those tools
3) cant understand that they can ship good software products and code using those very tools.
Just build something you think is cool using the tools you think works best for you.10 -
I seriously don't know why some people still using Google Drive, DropBox. Pied Piper is much better
www.piedpiper.com7 -
Buttons that say "Yes, please" should be "Yes".
"No, thanks" should be "No".
"Not now" should be "Never".
I am using software, not talking to people, there's no need to be nice.11 -
People that call themselves JavaScript developers but can't figure out how to update the DOM without using jQuery5
-
I see so many rants on here about people getting upset with Windows and deciding to suddenly migrate to Linux. Am I the only one who slowly transitioned to Linux over the time span of serval years and just stopped using Windows because I wasn't really using it that much anymore and not because it did anything wrong?10
-
A question for the people who say Macs are superior...
WHAT THE FUCK
I'm wrestling this iOS signing issue for the fourth day. How the fuck do people manage to build anything using tools broken by design and sold to them for the price of their mother.23 -
Start changing how young people look at programming. It’s not nerds doing nerdy things, it’s about real people using code to solve real problems. I think once the mindset changes it will get many more people interested.6
-
If my laptop made the same many sounds that computers in series and movies does, I would go insane and became as creepy, cynical and depressed as the people you see in those films and series using their computers are3
-
wild people somewhere with real high end laptop (it's apple, so we can tell by looking at it?) :"am developing a website..."
.... "develop" a website... using wordpress?
i think these days people have confuse the term develop and design.....5 -
Why has "privacy minded" people fallen for the illusion that Signal is good?
- It is centralized, which means you can't have control
- It uses google play services
- Using third party servers to send gifs
- The apk has flaws
- There is a reason F-Droid dont want it in its repo
I really can't wrap my head around why "privacy minded" people would embrace it.22 -
@dfox you could try using progressive jpegs, so that images are not shown when they're fully loaded but, lower resolution is loaded first then pixels are added to it as time passes, really good for people with slow Internet.6
-
With https://github.audio, I can hear people changing the world with technology while am here using bitbucket3
-
People using windows are true heroes
With so much troubles in their life they are still adding one more :)5 -
!rant
Just wrote my first piece of code using neural networks. Even explaining it to people is fun: "So you wrote a program that writes code?" "Exactly!"3 -
I tried Tiktok.
Immediately my fyp appears to be 18 year old girls doing cringe-worthy miming and people half my age telling me how I can earn over $3k per month using Canva.
...aaaaand...delete.16 -
Some people hate a language due to problem they faced while using it. I simply hate some language because code written in it doesn't looks good.4
-
I'm sick to death of hiring people from other companies and explaining GitFlow and why its useful (what are you people doing?).
Then watching them doing it wrong, pointing out its easier to use something like sourcetree. Which leads to "... well see, the terminal is just more efficient, tools like sourcetree are bloated".
Ok fair enough, well heres the deal i'll make with you, while using your "efficient tool", stop breaking our workflow and i'm fine for you to keep using it. Otherwise, stop being a dick and be a team player.18 -
One day a boy asked me that why don't you use FaceBook , I replied "People Like me Develop FaceBook instead of using it"5
-
> be me
> started using greentext on devrant a while ago
> semi successful rants
> people start using greentext too
> lookMomIDidIt.avi
> be happy
> no one knows I started it
> maybe it wasn't even me
> sit in shower
> try not to cry
> cry a lot
Shit. That's not a rant about coding
> fuck microsoft1 -
People ranting about xcode, how about stop using Mac and apple products there all dog shit. Or just use another IDE or editor problem solved.8
-
Game devs/other content creation people, how do you version control large asset files? So far I've been using git, but is there a better way?9
-
Professor: "I've been using java for many, many years and know close to everything."
Student: "How do I compile my code on the unix server?"
Professor: "uhh.... I don't know."
Let's start hiring people who actually know what they're doing.1 -
Hi devRant!
I take a CS class in the UK and can not believe how people use technology. Almost everyone is using smartphones and stuff but somebody can't get out of fullscreen in chrome.
He thought he broke the computer smh2 -
*Having issues with chrome using %20 of the CPU on linux, decides to google and see if anyone else is having the same issue*
Hmmm, this looks like it should be useful
*Opens link*
Oh look, all 40 replies are people complaining that the poster is using Chrome in the first place and telling them to just move to firefox, vivaldi, opera or any other browser... Thanks guys, real fucking helpful!9 -
You know, I agree with the opinion that everyone uses the tools they know can get the job done.
However, sometimes I just wish people wouldn't just pick the first tool for the job that comes up in Google's search results. People should look at more tools and then decide which tool is going to suit their use case best.
I can't for the life of me figure out why some people prefer using ad-ridden tools over ad-free, even open-source ones that work better in every way. The best example for this is people using μTorrent or BitTorrent® for the BitTorrent protocol instead of Deluge, Transmission, qBittorrent, and some others. They just typed in "how2download torrent for free uwu" and downloaded the objectively worst tool.
Pick your tools wisely, not by letting some search algorithm recommend you the worst one.9 -
For fucks sake can people stop using phones while walking, especially in busy places it's getting fucking ridiculous not to mention dangerous, the number of people I've seen that have headphones on and are glued to their screens almost bumping into people. What can they possibly be doing that's so important that they cant leave their phone in their pocket for 15 minutes while they get to where they need to be.6
-
Me: oh cool, using OpenGL and GLFW makes it nice and easy to draw a triangle! Might look into using GLEW to start making things a bit more cross platform..
* 48 hours later *
Me: Oh joy, of course everyone uses fucking visual studio, why can't people just offer tutorials or documentation for people using meson or you know... literally anything else that isn't visual studio!
It's fairly easy for me to port C++ to C with my limited knowledge but fuck me am I sick of documentation and articles always targeting a single method...6 -
Now I'm concerned that using std as a namespace can be seen as offensive by people who are carrying an STI.1
-
Best way to tell people that JSwing is not suited to make games?
I can't comprehend the fact they draw a grid playfield using JLabels.2 -
Why do people feel so compelled to create their own custom components when the component library you're already using HAS ONE ALREADY?!
You can change the styling and animations using CSS and props. Stop building buggy shit from scratch.7 -
I am so sick of people using emoji's in business related emails. I want to hunt them down and break their fingers when I see it.13
-
What can you do with people using so many times git force push ...
* explain gently this is not necessary
* punch him/her everytime you see it
* other stuff that is not in the above list7 -
Why do people suggest using arch when they have many ready to go distros.....?
I've heard that chances for breaking the whole system is high and is risky...18 -
You know what really grinds my gears? When people commit unfinished code and then my whole local application breaks! Oh, did I mention we're using SVN with one user instead of git? @!#$@%$^5
-
There’s no reason to keep using Windows. Don’t buy games that don’t offer a Linux version. Don’t take jobs that require you use Windows. Eventually as people refuse, businesses will follow or lose out 😁😁😁24
-
Lately it's been DevRant. Honestly. I sometimes lose the drive to learn. Then see newer tech people are using on here and it reinvigorates me. So DevRant.1
-
Project BluePly, all people are blueplying their pfps just for fun, for another Discord anniversary, so I also tried it, using my DevRant avatar....just don't ask what went wrong...9
-
Just heard this on the news...
"The cyber security on my smart phone compared to the cyber security in medical equipment..."
Wtf did I just hear??? I mean, I get it...using terms the general public understands... But how about educating people instead. 😤1 -
I had a job where the CEO/founder regularly yells at people and punches the wall.
During citywide rollout. He and a few other people went out to buy power inverters so they can power up my PC using someone's car14 -
I went to gym people there helped me to become fit.
I went to common kitchen in my hostel, people their taught me basics of cooking.
I went to learn code people mocked me for using Java(replace with any technology) not python(replace with any technology with swag) -
The advancing of technology makes you prefer to take public transports instead of walking to go to work.
The people using it makes you prefer to walk instead of taking public transports to go to work.3 -
Best part about being a dev...
Satisfaction that people are using you inventions/products to better their lives.
I know it sounds cliché, but software dev is a lot like art.
Guessing, Da Vinci must have felt the same way in the Renaissance.2 -
People keep using Firebase and saying how cool it is, I'll laught when Google does the same that facebook did with Parse or hike prices like they did with Google Maps Recently.... People stop putting your core logic in a third party black box.. it's not going to end well...4
-
I just saw people speaking about arch linux. Seems like there is not a lot of people using arch here. So I may be the only one on Gentoo? :'(10
-
If number of people using Pokemon Go tries to learn programming go the world would be much better place to code.
-
You know your company is in shit when the only products that their customers are using are all written by people who has since left the company.
I guess the first ones to leave are the best developers. -
There should be a NGO for properly destroying scammers. And I'm not talking about documenting the scams. I'm talking about having the resources to deny them service, find their identities and report them to authorities. Even meddle with their computers using malware.
These people are preying on mostly elderly people and stealing their money.3 -
Seeing how smartphones are advancing every year, I would say in about 10-20 years, we will see lots of people using smartphones as their personal computer
What do you think?13 -
Best: building a compiler in C and using LLVM as an IR tool
Worst: my job, and a group project of 5 people which I ended up working on alone1 -
Going old school, but...
Does anyone else want to literally reach over and strangle people who move your desk items, including swinging your monitor around, using your pen and paper, moving your fan or bottles, or other things?3 -
People complaining about me using white theme are like people being dicks about what I wear.
Just take care about your business9 -
What's everyone's opinion when it comes to designing modern and/or minimalistic interfaces when using blur or gradients?
I see a lot of people who are hating blur used in UI elements and a lot of people praise the 'death' of gradients, what's everyone else think of these.
I personally love using blur in UI's and do like gradients if done correctly (not 2 colour gradients)
EDIT: I mean what's your opinion on blur and gradients not which one is better :-P12 -
I can't believe it, people are still using dreamweaver, and they doing so because they actually don't know that there are better options. How are you a web dev and using dreamweaver out of ignorance...4
-
Using Zoom to share my screen so my colleague can use his Skype Business to record the Zoom window so that the other people can see my screen and I can call in using my phone
All because Linux does not have skype business :p9 -
People who are shitting on a chrome browser for desktop because of security reasons, but using it on their phones - you are mental.2
-
RANT
Using Windows.
So frustrated. Do people use it to get things not done? Or do they use it to annoy others?23 -
Ah, the internal struggle.
Half an hour of debugging to find out why my code wasn't being called multiple times inside setInterval().
Only to realised that I was using setTimeout() instead of setInterval().
This is what depression and tiredness does to people. -
People who willingly install and use development branch web browsers and then send inages of exploded websites when using said browsers.
-
Reply to a recruiter today quoting her email:
You will end up with more qualified people if you don't use blatantly fictitious statements like. "While it's not often that I like to email people I don' t know (especially those in different cities!)" You're a recruiter using LinkedIn, the activity of recruiting is partially doing exactly the above.
No interest, have a good day. -
Some people think that web development is easy because they use framework for responsive designs, they dont know the struggle of manually using media query in css.
-
1. using "if... then... else..." When explaining something tru slack to non tech people
2. buying lamps i can program
3. dreaming abt my code
4. dreaming abt the solution
5. trying to make bot to send happy birthday msg -
When I see people using online tools to test the strength of their passwords I laugh at their stupidity 😭32
-
People think Machine Learning is all about using Super Complex Prediction Models...
But turns out to devote most time in data gathering and data cleaning(preprocessing).2 -
Some marketing people function on a whole 'nother level. They write internally in the same way they write to represent the company externally, using all the bullshit-laden buzzwords, using exclamation marks all over to convey fake enthusiasm. I wonder if they feel exhausted after doing this for a whole day. I know I would. But I suppose if it helps them perform better, well, let them do it, I guess.5
-
It's been more than 3 years since ES6 came out.
Why are tutorials STILL coming out with people using "var" over "let" and "const"?
Var is dead folks.8 -
Anyone else starting to perceive real life and communicating with people using logical gate thinking?
I think I need vacation because communicating with non tech/code savy people requires an effort..1 -
For the last month WhatsApp doesn't want to open anymore. I guess its time to drop it and tell people to text me again.
Byebye last facebook product I was using.4 -
Wow so many teachers... Looks like lots of people take CS. The only CS teacher I have is myself (and books).
Best Dev experience... So far... Writing Watcher.
First app I wrote using modular design and I use it still every day. -
I think CPU manufacturers should start using bogomips as their focal point in advertising.
That poor unscientific measurement is neglected.
We should be aiming for Megabogomips by now people. MEGABOGOMIPS. -
Creating something out of nothing and knowing there's people from all over the world using my creation. One last thing is the developer community is so rich in diversity, walks of life, experience...it's truly awesome to get to know so many people who all program.
-
I fucking hate when people think they can do a better job not using a well tested library.
And then try justify why their code is better and quicker than using a library.1 -
Am I the only one with sore thumbs from using a phone and typing at work all day? Everyone talks about their phone and features it should have but I'm just like "hardware ain't shit if you're going to break your hands using it"
I think it's a tall people with big hands problem.6 -
Some people are so crazy about Hadoop, that for every problem, they think of solving it using Hadoop. Even when you need to process a 10MB file!!!!2
-
Woah! Collabs! Nice.
I'm actually glad it's a paid feature. The sheer entitlement of people using free software asking for development help for free has always bothered me.
Cool idea, I hope it works out! -
Ah yes, The Hacker News intentionally using intendation errors in python 2 to screw over people using their ddos script. yes. That's gotta be the reason
why the fuck am I even following these trolls3 -
So us Aussies are about to literally be forced into using NBN soon (for people who aren't Aussies, NBN would be worse than using a log of shit as your ethernet cable) and having all ADSL connections cut off... Fan fucking tastic!
They can barely keep the NBN up and running for one day and can barely deliver promised speeds but nooooooooooooooooooooo, everyone must fucking use it...3 -
Want to impress people. Create a number guessing game using the "binary search algorithm" and your program will be able to guess any number in a range of 10000 in 14 trys or less or 1 billion in 30.3
-
So what's up with HR people pushing people to stop using terms like master/slave and blacklist/whitelist because it's offensive to people? I mean this is simply censorship out of context. It's not blatantly hating on someone.
Did they did even ask concerned people their opinion? Is this really gonna help professional inclusion? Censoring terms will not solve issues if you cannot talk about it in an honest manner.
Fuck sake some HR people are paid for doing bullshit.7 -
What browser does everyone use? I've been using Firefox and its pretty good mixed with DuckDuckGo I could ask for better, but people seem to love Chrome. What does everyone think should I try Chrome for a bit.40
-
Print("Hello World")
When people design a brand new Postgresql schema (case sensitive) using a mix of upper and lower case letters.
Only to then proceed and escape every single table and column name in every single query.1 -
How does a person learn all these Dev ops/backend/frontend/mobile apps technology? I've been using Vagrant + Django mostly and I feel I'm so behind when people talk about AWS EB, Node, React, SASS, Less. Whelp2
-
Are people using Vim doing it for the sake of it? Is there such a thing as a Vim hipster?
I mean, nano is just nicer 😇15 -
So I've been using the command "poweroff" to shut down my Linux system, tried searching only if this is safe or not, mostly people just speak of "shutdown -h now" or something like that. So my question is: Is it safe to shut down Linux using the "poweroff" command?10
-
i hate when people use great tools improperly. what is the point of using SQL if you're gonna have a thousand tables with redundant data?5
-
People who delete a repo and clone again instead of a hard reset because 'they can't undo the changes they made" are the kind of people who shouldn't be using git in the first place.4
-
I'm still unable to find a single advantage of using the Firebase Database over MongoDB, yet people keep suggesting me to do so.
WHY? I can host Mongo for free on my own server and won't have to worry about *READING* costing money!6 -
Those people who don’t even understand the commit message
Who commits using commit message “commiting”?3 -
Can't believe that the debate between using space vs tab is still going on. Tab is the way to go people.12
-
I just don't get people designing database tables using VARCHAR/VARCHAR2 for columns that have numeric values in them, then use them as row identifiers.
I simply don't.5 -
Guys, I think they are asking about Big Data Loss. People thought it's about Data Loss.
My Big Data Loss experience is when everyone in Hong Kong starts talking about big data using spreadsheets. So lost.1 -
Why do people keep using .doc files? I've just downloaded a ZIP with 4 Word documents, 3 .docx and ONE .doc, what's wrong with whoever did this?12
-
So people always complain about how people ask bad questions on StackOverflow, but it seems people on SO are also unable to properly read the question.
I literally stated in my question that I've tried using android's v7 SearchView and first thing someone answers is use the v7 SearchView, I mean c'mon, RTFQ4 -
Why is supporting Windows Server 2003 in the project requirements?!?! Isn't that like fucking 13 years ago?!?! The support for it has even ended like 3 years ago. Also, why are people using Windows to host their servers? Do people know what Linux is???3
-
Why do people hate wordpress so much? It honestly fucks me off the amount of hate it gets and I honestly get a little triggered when people give me the "aww people who use Wordpress aren't real web devs" comment? Like fuck off i use Wordpress to make using a site more easy for my clients you daft cunt. 😩23
-
I hate when people use error, bug and glitch interchangeably. They are all different things people. Stop using such technical words if you don't even know their meanings.3
Can people stop using Kubernetes and over engineering shit for services which get like, 10 users at most ? Thank you.21
Anyone knows why comment limit on web version of devRant is 1000 chars and on mobile 2000 chars?
Is this an actual feature to push people for using mobile app, or inconsistency caused by not updating web app?7 -
People completing Stanford + Andrew Ng's course and bragging how they know machine learning in and out while having no idea how to code simplest application using the simplest libraries.3
People who think programming is just copy+paste, haven't programmed using COBOL, REXX or JCL (or similar "archaic" languages).
Best of luck finding all the answers on Google/SO. This is the world where RTFM is a daily task.
RTFM = Read The Fucking Manual4 -
The people who post in r/php make me want to quit using php entirely and just switch to python or c#.6
-
Work on new projects and open source some of them and have 50+ star on the repos and people start using it
-
There are people I've seen myself multiple times; who quit vim/vi using Ctrl+Z . I was lucky enough to ask one person to just run "jobs". That was horrifying.
I just needed to share this somewhere ...8 -
So much talk about wannacry and security, but everyone will forget in a few weeks and go back to using old unpatched OS with vulnerabilities.. Why don't people understand that security is a necessity, not a luxury!6
I see many people try to build automated insults using ML and reddit roast me, is it possible to build an automated compliment bot ?5
Why are many people talking about VM? Like I couldn't get if you're using it instead of dual booting or it's something else going on in the hind side.....11
Our team uses story format titles for JIRAS like As a ..., I want...
But in our git repo, a lot of people create branches using the same name:
{JIRA-ID}-as-a-...
And I'm always like why the fuck can't you take 5s to name your branches more descriptively? I usually name mines using some keywords from the Jira Title
But wondering now what do you all think/do?2 -
A project called instawish...
Basically its get pictures from famous people instagram ( watches, clothes, shoes ) and allow you to project on yourself using AR (vufforia) just creating the model based on the image. Simple as hell!5 -
Is anyone here using Mastodon or anything else from the Fediverse network?
I really want to change from using twitter to mastodon but I can't find all the security researchers and devs and generally cool people on mastodon.
Who are you guys and gals following? Are you using it exclusively or in addition to twitter?2 -
Why are most jobs just about web development or mobile development? (I'm not criticizing I'm a mobile developer myself)
Is it JUST purely because of the market need and people using them?
Share your opinion on this one and what other career paths in CS do you know about you think would benefit from more people in them.2 -
the moment other people are struggling finding a file using "find" in Linux and you find it using "locate" in seconds like a boss.1
The biggest problem I see with current state of AI is the feedback loop it creates in people.
For example, some (usually older people in higher positions) perceive long emails as a sign of courtesy, involvement, and hard work. As a result, others have started using AI to write longer emails for them, to get on "the good side" with their higher ups. And now that many use AI to generate longer emails, those same higher ups got used to it and started to perceive short, straight-to-the-point emails as "rude". So even more people are looking into using AI to generate longer emails as they don't want to seem rude. At that rate it's not long until those that rely on AI to write "better" (== longer) emails get promoted over some hard working person who simply doesn't care to write long emails.
Even though AI didn't do anything, it somehow still "trained" people to start using it and even rely on it, and it even indirectly rewards people who use it for completely meaningless and seemingly unrelated tasks. And in a few years, whatever comes out of this will be used to train the next generations of AI, creating even more of a feedback loop that people will be completely unaware of until it eventually crashes onto itself. Because that loop can't be observed in the AI itself, it has to be observed in the people.4 -
why the fuck am I stuck using a "custom javascript framework based on angular.js" instead of NORMAL FUCKING ANGULAR LIKE REGULAR PEOPLE DO.4
-
When the fuck will some people here start using categories how they should be used? They post something in "rant" category, but it starts with "!rant". Seriously, what the fuck? How can people this retarded even be devs?10
-
From now on I won't be supporting ie. Instead I will just show a page saying fuck you. Maybe then people will stop using that garbage.2
Webex works great in firefox on linux now. That was the last thing I was using windows to do. So my siloed-off VM for webex can run linux now, and people will ask me WTF operating system I'm using when I share my screen.
-
I'm kind of surprised people haven't tried using devRant as a job board yet. There's a lot of raw talent here, both seniors, and juniors experimenting with everything.
May as well start. We have ping pong!9 -
So i hear people like Enki, since i have been using it before it launched, forgot i had invites.
Your Enki invite code: NBLAC782.
To create a native CLI application for Linux, windows and Mac using C or just use C# and tell people to use mono... These are the real questions that I can't tell if I'm too lazy to ask myself properly...9
Microsoft 4-5 years ago : "hey we put in place a small Ai calculator "advisor" for you to check. Maybe you can pay a bit less"
People using advisor and puting it in yearly mode to how much diff it would take over a year.
Microsoft : Fuck people are paying less. Then see image...
I only see one reason for that. -
People who freak out and think they have been hacked when you send a message to them on the prod server using the wall command should not be allowed SSH access.
(How far) Do you see a future where one of Linux's distros gets a good enough user experience that average people start using it?
My partner has been using Ubuntu in one of her side-computers and they haven't complained. That said, my partner is pretty technologically literate, although they don't code professionally.35 -
I've decided that I want to make a REST API using Flask/Python. I've researched it for a few days, but can't seem to find anything close to a definitive answer: How should I structure the application?
I've found a lot of people talking about using Blueprints, and I'm leaning towards that, but I'm wondering if there aren't "better" frameworks for building a REST API? What do people here recommend that I look into?7 -
1. People stop adding too many comments to their code.
2. People stop using too few comments in their code.
3. I wake up one morning and find web assembly has matured overnight. -
Honestly, people who think “vanillaJS da way” and heavily work with HTML strings are a danger to human kind.
You’re basically running around with a shirt saying “I love using eval wherever possible”2 -
Update from my previous post about the white flag application, now I got support from random people for helping the needy.
Refer https://devrant.com/rants/4473133/...3 -
Quote from one of the seniors here:
"Build as simply as possible, in case other people don't know what they're doing"
So, instead of using all tools available (I'm trying to introduce using AspectJ), we should build for the least knowledgeable developer and not teach them anything new.11 -
Maybe changing the name of the this pointer to "m" will encourage people to start using it and stop prefixing field names with m_ 🤔
Has anyone actually ever seen evidence of SOLID principles being 100% adhered to, as opposed to people just saying they're using them correctly then you look at their code and they're clearly not.
I can count more than one responsibility here...1 -
Capitalism works because 2 people who would actually hate each other, have different opinions if they ever met can trade their time using the market without knowing who is on the other side. Purely based on merit.17
When did people decide that developing using a tech that doesn't even have a proper command line debugger is a safe bet for a production system?
NodeJS, tower of nonsense... -
When interviewing people still ask me if I work with Eclipse. I'm Android dev, why should I ever work with that piece of sh*t of an non-IDE?
Please just don't ask for Eclipse. No sane androider uses it. I don't like to waste my life using the worst software ever made. I would even say that no one should be using it. NetBeans is better, IntelliJ is best.2 -
I see a lot of people here coding using terminal editors like vim. Isn’t it better to use an IDE rather than vim? How do people in the industry do it?3
-
Ctrl+X followed by Ctrl+C to quit. Let that sink in. Think about :wq. Think about Ctrl+X. Think. Ask yourself how you think about it and then think again.
And if you say "well it's AWESOME" then start using your clipboard more when using a gui around the terminal or ssh and come back 1 month later.
People say vi is counter intuitive.. what the fuck is emacs then?2 -
Anyone using Kubernetes? Just want to know how much many people actually you it vs the actual hype there is around it8
Am I the only one to this date who still doesn't feel comfortable using the NumPad? I always have the NumLock key turned off and people who borrow my computer get annoyed by that. I've always typed numbers using the row above the letters. Typing numbers on the NumPad is very slow and unnatural to me. Is someone else out there feeling the same?4
-
I understand the desire people have to use an open source driver for their graphics card, but it feels like that's not the only reason people seem averse to using nvidia's closed-source driver on linux. I have used it for years, and never had a problem, and though I have an admittedly specific use scope, I would like to know what it is that people dislike about it. What problems do you have with it?3
GitHub should allow server linking and social content downloading for repo authors to encourage people to still host their own repositories
Some asshole deletes everything and we're all fucked15 -
Why do people say Binary to ASCII? Shouldn't they say, "Binary to readable text through/using ASCII"?2
Hey where can I get access to the devrant API? GitHub readme said it isn't officially public yet but people are still using it. Just had a few for projects I wanted to try.2
We should begin refusing to work for companies who enforce using MS products. Need to buy actual desktop office license because their software doesn't accept web-edited elements? Pass.
Seeing a "are you still there" message in MS teams, or figuring out what other browser to use since you already have several MS accounts? Pass.
Azure devops and no way to expand the code during review?
Yup, pass!
Enough of this BS. People who opt for using MS software don't care about their users nor contractors' experience. We shouldn't care about those people.24 -
Using DB triggers is something bad? I have started using NoSLQ databases (CouchDB and MongoDB) and I can't find anything intuitive or native to the BD.
The worse is that I have googled it and I rarely find people asking for triggers in NoSQL databases.
What am I missing? My concepts about RDBMS blind me about NoSQL?7 -
Anyone know any good sources on creating a multi seat system using Ubuntu (or some Linux). I want to have 4 people using 4 monitors, keyboards, and mice. On 1 computer. It’s for a project idea9
After start reading on devrant I noticed that somehow people are using vim and emacs quite a bit. Why are you using them m? Are IDEs or Editors like Atom/Sublime not far more sophisticated than CLI Editors?11
So what do you guys think of a tailwind css?
Any people using Julia here for something real. Like analysis or building applications? Is it worth learning or should I stick to python and cpp ?2
I know Windows XP is ancient,but how do people legitimately get anything developed under Windows. It's legitimately frustrating. If it weren't for my sdcard wiping itself when I shutdown I'd probably be using Debian.5
With bitcoin/binance still allowing russia to move money about, is anybody abandoning it? I don't feel comfortable using it, but also if it becomes their only way to fund themselves, the government will push through new tax laws on it and throttle it anyway. Or just outright ban people from using it.
Funding a war is one of the occassions where decentralised financing becomes a major problem.18 -
How do people make well organized js backends? I've been using express for a long time for simple backends and messing about with APIs but I can't seem to organize it in a way that feels efficient enough for my standards. I'm wondering if other people with lots more experience than me have either resources or rules that help them keeps these kinda projects organized.8
This is some cool shit:
People worried about AI replacing programmers when it was the math people software has been replacing.6 -
NodeJS' url module of course doesn't include __proto__ when enlisting parameters (in /?__proto__=hi for example).
People using objects as maps are insane. They are so insane, that they don't even realise that. -
What do people here use to 'manage' projects in small teams?
Im currently working in a team of 2 and using gitlab for git and using the changelog for changes and todo stuff.
Its working 'alright' but its still a bit of a hassle specialy for 2 persons.
People here use other tools that are faster to use etc?3 -
With all the people here using and loving Linux, I wonder how many of you have contributed money to either a distro, drivers or the kernel itself?6
People not using FaaS (like aws lambda or azure functions ) to build chat bots (facebook, slack) but using express based (or any webserver based) application deserves a place in hell.
Can't think why would you use expressJS based app for chat bot. Especially with event emitter shit. At least for Lucifers sake document which event triggers what. Please. -
People not even reaching 100 points in the dinosaur game: 😭
Coders using inspect element to get infinite points: 😈😈2 -
Just curious, but do a lot of people here actually search content using tags. I made a post on CSS around 2 weeks back and it still gets upvotes pretty regularly.4
I don't know why people are complaining about windows updates while they can stop the update service from service manager. I did that wile I was using windows.
Moral of the story: I use linux. 😜 -
Funny Thought: There are lots of people who actually get paid to crop images, touch up pictures, and add watermarks using PhotoShop! Still, in 2021!! smh6
I’m unnerved by the number of people printing money in their basements using graphics cards. We have a global inflation problem and a semiconductor shortage. The cherry on top is that our solution is to make more semiconductors…3
Why do people refuse to use cli tools development enviroments?
I'm wasting my time cleaning a drupal codebase bc the previous dev committed the modules instead of using composer....1 -
What's everyone's favorite operating system? I've been using Ubuntu for years now and I actually have no idea why as I have no real reason to be using it other than people tell me it is good.
What is everyone's favorite (unix) OS and why?1 -
Is the android emulator still dogshit? Will I put myself through endless misery until I get a real device? Last I tried was when people were using eclipse.2
I got yet another interesting question today:
"Why do people make demos with such old machines? No one's using an Amiga or C64 anymore."
I can't really answer this one.4 -
Why are there so many template languages? Do people enjoy them? I certainly don't.
What is the problem with just using functions? E.g. using https://j2html.com/ or http://www.lihaoyi.com/scalatags/
You can do code reuse with functions, for-loops, classes, interfaces etc.
Why are they avoided in Spring, PlayFramework and similar? -
I started working on a small declarative PHP framework inspired by SwiftUI using some Laravel components. Wondering how much interest people might have in it.
2024 - At Microsoft its still not clear for the people that who is using Visual Studio might want to create an installer for the application he's building.
Why would people want an installer, what a crazy thought to have it in the ide primarily used for building applications.8 -
Tell me about your experience developing apps on a Mac.
I heard a lot of people are displeased by the platform. At the same time, I'm comfortable developing web apps on a Macos (using vim + tmux) and want to know whether I'm missing out.4 -
When people on GitHub respond to issues I subscribed to with "+1" instead of using reaction emojis. 😡 I get an email everytime...
Why are end users so braindead? "omg I deleted the whole db" turns out they wanted to delete one entry but pressed the wrong delete button.
Especially older people who are braindead. Same with self service systems that braindead people have problems using because they are not "user friendly" (read: n00bed down so a 1 year child can use it)7 -
I think php has Potential and no i don't see people using it nor more jobs in that sector as its still 70% of the internet7
