Started working in a company as an intern, they want me to do everything whether I know how to or not.12
-
One time my co-worker put a tiny piece of tape inside the USB receiver of my mouse which apparently makes any USB device stop working. It took me a while to figure out why my damn mouse wasn't working even though everything was properly plugged in and it had new batteries.
When I found the tiny piece of tape I was instantly knew who it was and it was pretty funny.6 -
Client: Urgent! App is crashing!
Me inside: Wtf, Crashlytics didn’t send me anything, it betrayed me...
Me: What’s wrong?
Client: Some random user sent me email that app is crashing SOMEWHERE(!?)
Me: ................................... no problem, I’m working on it.
*Tomorrow*
Me: Fixed, everything works fine now (didn’t do anything actually)
Client: Great, nice work!
Client never mentioned that “problem “ anymore.
#likeaboss4 -
GF: Why are working so late?
Me: Because no matter what I do, everything is working correctly.
GF: What....
The only career when you have to work late because everything is working like it should (cannot reproduce an issue).19 -
WHY THE FUCK IS IT SO FUCKING HARD FOR THESE CUM SUCKERS TO UNDERSTAND THAT CHANGING REQUIREMENTS 2 DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE IS JUST GONNA BREAK EVERYTHING!?!?
I DOUBLE DARE ANYONE TO TELL ME ITS NOT WORKING TOMORROW...
STUPID MOTHER FUCKER PMS CANT PLAN ANYTHING6 -
Wife - my site is not working, everything in the code looks correct. But it is only throwing me 404 all over
Me - "blaming the teacher for giving bad shit"
Wife after googling - I fixed it, you have forgot to enable .htaccess in the virtualhost
FFS how long have I been this stupid?12 -
So, I'm programming a control system for a prototype aerospace vehicle. You know, the stuff that needs to work to prevent falling out of the sky.
Anyway, test day was today (was -- not anymore). Wiring all the electronics, everything is actuating and works well. Except for one part, a little thruster for stability.
I spent hours - literally, fucking hours - trying to fix the problem. Wrong address? Wrong syntax? I had absolutely no clue what was wrong. Queue the hardware guy, $stupid:
$stupid: "How have you not got it working yet?!"
$me: "I don't know, everything I'm trying isn't working. I've spent hours digging through this code and nothing is fucking working."
$stupid: "Well have you set it up for the new thruster?"
$me: "What...What new thruster?"
$stupid: "Oh, the one we installed this morning, did noone tell you?"
WHY WOULDN'T YOU TELL ME THIS?! COMMUNICATION 101!6 -
Life story of every Dev in nutshell :
Everything is working perfectly as expected and no body congratulates Dev and no one gives a shit.
Single thing is broken and the whole universe be like : "Where the fuck is that son of a b*tch? Bring that bastard in front of me right now."
😡😡😡😡6 -
Me: *uses google chrome*
Parents: Stop, log out of everything, you're hogging up the internet, omg
Me: *unplugs computer*
Parents: *their computer still not working* You downloaded a virus to our wifi you're grounded for a month3 -
Was working on some a project at a coffee shop with my girlfriend when I got frustrated and exclaimed "God damn why is this method breaking everything". My girlfriend looks up at me and starts in surprise "code can break?".6
-
It's 2017, I've got a bird on my shoulder and a stressball on my desk, everything is alright.
( I should be working on that SQL statements I generated instead of writing them out right now)
Just one more thing

Wouldn't be amazing if we could charge like doctors?
User: good morning engie, just here for my checkup.
Engie: everything seems to be working perfectly with your laptop. That would be 70 bucks.
Not comparing professions just a random thought.12 -
That moment that everything seems to be working well enough but you're too afraid to release because of stuff you might have missed 😅4

Went into bed with peace in mind. Updated my website and everything working perfectly. Tonight I'll have a good sleep.
Jumped from bed all of a sudden :
GIT COMMIT! GIT PUSH!1 -
Last year, a customer bought a very expensive Symantec certificate for their website (that is not hosted by us).
They got the certificate and everything seemed nice. We got paid and all everything.
And yesterday, the customer called and said that their certificate has stopped working. I thought "that is strange" so I visited their site and what I saw was horrible.
The site has used and still used a Let's Encrypt certificate. The webdevs they have had not bothered to install the very expensive Symantec certificate for $1500...13 -
Hey everyone - apologies for the downtime earlier today. Our host is having a lot of issues and we're working to keep everything up through it.
On that note- there might be a little more down time tonight as they are trying to fix something and we might need a few server restarts. I will keep everyone updated and thanks for bearing with us!16 -
No, my family did not support me.
They complained about everything.
From how "Python was demonic" to how "Working with computer wont save you from the coming tribulation"
Growing up in a religious cult sucks.10 -
Fuck YOU Xcode!
20 crashes since I started working this morning.
Restarted the iMac, same shit.
Cleared NVRAM/PRAM whatever its called, same shit.
Closed EVERYTHING, restarted iMac again, unplugged from the wall, left it few mins, replugged back, turned it on, continued working, AND IT STILL KEEPS FUCKING ME OUT OF NOWHERE.
FUCK THIS, FUCK XCODE, FUCK APPLE, AND FUCK WHOEVER DARES TO THINK THAT ITS A GREAT PIECE OF SOFTWARE, im done.
P.S. this rage got me to a point where i had to make this paper13 -
The server for an internal application was acting up, but everything was working fine locally. After an 18 hour day, I just rerouted the traffic to my dev machine and left it on overnight so I could go home.
A piece of me hates myself and also loves myself for that one.2 -
Tried to switch to Manjaro from Ubuntu.
Everything good except ethernet not working.
3 hours wasted, updated the kernel, three network managers changed, realised that the ethernet wire was loose at the modem end.

> make a change
> PR gets rejected
> IHATEFORALIVING! YOUR CHANGE IS NOT WORKING! EVERYTHING BREAKS!
> 3 hours long debugging session
> We find out a whole bunch of bugs
> Suddenly, everything works
> None of the bugs had ANYTHING to do with my change. In the instances where the app broke, my code wasn't even being called at all.
> My change was literally the one and only working thing
I wish life was like in The Office, when you just stop what you're doing and you drop the Jim stare at some camera3 -
Was working in small startup with great people on new projects, but for very low salary and shitty conditions.
Changed job to big company with nice salary and great conditions, but people are assholes and have to work on legacy stuff mostly.
Guess you can't have everything.1 -
My computer science teacher is very sly: while you are working he stands right behind you for some time, so you start writing good code, functions for everything, perfect indentation... But you don't know if he is still behind you, and you're not brave enough to look back, so you write good code for the rest of the lesson.
What a good prof8 -
The music I hear while coding can describe my current mood:
Dubstep and other electronic music -> chilled and focused
Movie soundtracks -> everything I do today is working fine
Anime Openings/JPop -> in desperate need for motivation
Metal -> why is that son of a code not working?!
What kind of music do you listen to while coding?17 -
I'm the only programmer in the company. Sometimes it's exhausting doing everything. I'm currently working on 3 iOS apps, a web app, building out the APIs and managing the databases at the same time.
Full fucking stack. Every day.11 -
Real Linux fuck up coming up.
Be me.
Working on a project.
Accidentally used sudo with git pull, every file now is only accessible for root users.
Thinking to myself.. okay I'll just do chmod 777 to the current directory
Forgot how to use chmod
At first something like
Sudo chmod ./ 777
Not working
Maybe
Sudo chmod / 777
Not working
Remembering that it's the other way around
sudo chmod 777 /
Now... I fucked up. I forgot the dot, and for a sec I forgot that '/' means root directory and not current like './' does.
Few moments later the permission system of Ubuntu is utterly fucked. Everything is not working.
Need sudo in order to fix everything but sudo isn't working.
Few hours of crying later,I solved it thanks to some nice ppl online helping stupid people like me who used that command...😂10 -
Ok, it’s been a loooong fucking day.
28 hours later from starting work yesterday, preparing for a giant deployment over multiple systems, Doing deployments overnight... on a Friday night of all days and finally, finally seeing everything working is just a beautiful thing.
Good night devRant!1 -

Coworker: Why isn't my internet working? I've checked everything, even the ethernet cable!
Me: *sobs*
Me: *connects ethernet cable*
Me: Try now... -
The company I work at have never used Git or any other version control system...
Today I'm working on making everything ready for Git and removing "backup", backup_old", "fileX.php" etc.
In the end, I'll be happy and the company will be happy for the better management and control.5 -
A few years ago I configured my wifi extender.
Got everything working as I wanted.
Changed password to my favorite 24char password.
Can't login again...
Meh... It's working as I want and is secure, not even I can login.
It's still running in this state.3 -
I hate access. I wish I could use literally any other program. But they're not authorized.
I'm the only one working on this, and everything is closed. How the fuck is the object in use somewhere else? And where the fuck did my primary key go???7 -
My friend and I have been debugging this server issue where the server can't find the input file.
30 minutes passed, we checked, restarted everything, still no avail.
When I saw his safari browser, THE FULL URL WASNT SHOWING. The server was working, we just didn't see a redirect behavior because of apple fucking trying to fucking prettify everything.
GOD DAMMIT.

That rejuvenating feeling when you've been trying to get a piece of code working for days, google hasn't helped, and you're just about to call it another lost day, when a random "what happens if I do this" solves everything.
I'm going to dream about puppies, prancing through a meadow, and rootbeer floats tonight!2 -
Not meeting any good mentors. Not meeting any good colleagues. Not attending any good dev classes.
I have self taught everything. After my uni kicked out, I founded my own work and working since then. Couldn't hire any great talent that can guide me with the pay I can afford.2 -
Don't lie in your resume or in the interview.
People know you're not an expert at everything, nobody expects that from anybody (and you should really avoid working for anybody who does)2 -
Ever since i became programming-literate i cant just enjoy a game without thinking how everything how everything is working 🤦🏻12
-
Well I just learned the value of reading comments on code
Been working on issue for 3-4 days 30 seconds after reading documentation and adjusting accordingly everything is working perfectly
I feel so stupid :(3 -
3,5hrs trip to Stockholm. Good time spending on devrant and working on exam project. Css3 grid everything!5

Vuejs is great. I havent read any of the docs, only the first part of how to make components, and pretty sure i just hackes shit together but i now have a working site. It just speeds everything up, unlike fucking angular lol.10

Dear sweet merciful Lord, my API is WORKING! OMG! I take back everything bad I said about PHP. Turns out the connection to the database was causing the script not to run. I'll figure out why later but poor sweet PHP, is innocent.4

After four months of working alone, finally got another developer at work. Unfortunately they hired him as my boss. He came to me yesterday with a new project and told me to drop everything I'm working on for it. I asked him the timeline for it, a week. Why. Why the fuck. Go fuck yourself.16
-
This happens more often than I care to admit.
I take a coffee, then I drink a sip.
Because it's too hot I put him aside.
Start working
Lose track of everything around me
Then when I am no longer distracted by the stupid bullshit line of code that I was stuck at, I go to drink the coffee and is FUCKING COLD!!!!!6 -
DevOps is like working in sanitation. If everything works as it should, no one cares about you. But if there is a problem, everyone is up to their eyeballs in shit, and it is your fault.
Same as IT btw.3 -
Nothing is working today. 😭😭😭😭
My perfect results of Friday have all disappeared.
It now seems like everything was running on magic on Friday. 😭😭6 -
Spent 1 hour "debugging". All this time I was running the old executable. Realized, took a deep breath, ran the new executable; everything was working properly. I love my life.
This is how you waste time, buddies! 😓4 -
If living and working in the UK wasn't hard enough as is for a student. This now happens and has, pretty much, screwed everything over.
Promoted lies, PM stepping down, value of pound dropping.
All going great! ☺️🔫4 -
Perfect....
I am working on my laptop, listening to some music and then... Suddenly the system gets stuck... Forced shutdown the system...
And voila!!!!!

this week started like shit, but today it seems like everything fell into place. the interns are working, the bs code i had to change works, i did more than i expected, plus i just cut my hair and it is cute as heck1

Just a moral story.
It's been a few years I've been using Linux for deployments.
And currently I'm working on a project that has Win on the Server so I'm working on the necessary installations and configurations and I caught myself actually reading everything in the installation and configurations dialogs. And I'm having this urge just to click next and get it overwith.
But thank you Penguin almighty for thee hath introduced patience and knowledge into mine soul. Or else...
... I would've fucked the whole system by a click lol6 -
Flexible working hours, Home Office, fair compensation, working on a greenfield product 🥰.
I was in a bad spot two years ago jobwise and I don't regret jumping the ship for a second.
I would never have guessed that flexible hours and WFH would be so beneficial to my mental health!
Not everything is perfect all the time, but it gets pretty damn close all things considered.3 -
What do you do when another dev overwrites/changes your working code without telling you, only because s/he cannot understand how your code works?
And your code was working fine, mind you, no bugs or anything, and is following recommended guidelines/standards. It's just that this other dev has a different coding style and prefers to rewrite everything his/her way even if it means breaking up otherwise sound logic.7 -
Hey, I´m through with the Win10 update.
That was fast. And no problems! Everything seems to be working.
Wait...
Android SDK not found...
Java not found ...
Seems all my environment variables are gone.
Even better all the standard variables are wrong too.
My Home Drive is now "H:" ?
What the hell?9 -
Today after working 7 days on a project. My coworker comes up to me and says he pushed everything on the server and that he cleared git to make everything cleaner. When he did I that he forgot to change some vital things. Now we have a black website running and no backup code. I was so passed at him. Luckily a stressbal works really well. I threw it at is head and felt immediately better. Sad part need to do it all over again.3

I spent two weeks writing a WordPress plugin to take some form data, process it through another website, and take the result to Salesforce. the client had a "Salesforce specialist" doing everything on the Salesforce side and refused to give me access to see if the data was properly pushed through.
Finally I got it in working condition when suddenly it stopped working, I hadn't changed anything since it worked so I asked if he could have possibly changed something. We argued for over 4 hours about who changed something, the whole time I was looking for the error in my code. At 6pm I finally told him I would need to take a look at it tomorrow.
Overnight he sent me an email:
"Hey, sorry about the confusion yesterday, I set Salesforce to deny duplicate email entries, looks like once I removed that everything is working."6 -
I was working on this mustachio fork called Morestachio and changed the Default Encoding from "Encoding.Default" to UTF8 while creating a .NetStandard version of it. After i have created everything i thought "Hey just for the lolz run my tests again" ...2

So I spent the last two days wondering WTF I did wrong, because my Laptop (Debian STABLE mind you...) would only boot in read-only mode and therefore only TTY (which btw sucks donkey-balls on a 4k screen (see image for visualization)) but on the earlier Kernel 4.9.0-7, everything was dandy.
So apparently laptop-mode-tools managed to fuck shit up in a way yet unknown, but as soon as I yeeted that bitch off my harddrive, everything was working flawlessly again...6 -
Our main server that stores everything and that everyone uses has been down for about an hour now. It's okay though I get paid by the hour. Plus, I'm working remotely today.
Probably doesn't help that we let other people other than the IT department mess with what we put on the server.1 -
It was the first time I worked on a big project with a big team, I looked at the given code and copied their code style.
I finished very fast and everything was working fine, was really proud of myself. I'd like to add some logging though.
Programm failed it was heavily async and parallel so 2 days of debugging had past the whole team was on board nobody knew what went wrong there.
As I stared into the darkness of my code I suddenly saw what went wrong 😂
As I adopted no curly braces style of the Team for
If (condition)
Justine();
And I added logging above without braces everything broke 😂 it was indented properly so as a heavily python user everything looked fine2 -
For the coming few months, refactoring my entire life. Everything will be redone with modularity in mind. So far it seems to be working well. Once the foundations are stable, I could start focusing further on the development of my Linux distribution. Hopefully that'll be done soon.6
-
Exams of two weeks starts tomorrow. We'll be doing a project. Only, 70 percent will be documentation :/. I'm trying to keep my nerves, fair of failure and everything else as low as possible but that's not particularly working anymore 😞10

FUCKKKKKK

And the fucking X stepper isn't working...

“Someone is eventually going to build a JavaScript compiler that output machine code, which will lead to an apocalypse and the death of everything you know and love when all JS code mysteriously stops working in the year 2048.

[Working on a Project]
- Added a few lines for log display to end user
- Breaks everything
- Spent an hour trying to resolve issue, fails
- Commented those lines
- Everything starts working again
- Uncommented those lines
- Everything still works

Today we updated PHP on our server. From 7.0 to 7.2
Promptly the whole server went down and none of the pages on it worked anymore. I guess we sort of forgot that there are other pages on the serve than the one we were working on...
Now everything is operational again.3 -
Wanted: Senior Software Engineer for important job at NATO
Required: all sorts of leadership certificates.
2 pages of jibber jabber. But not a word about the software stack or even technologies used 😂
It's the opposite of where they ask you have experience with everything, I guess they found out that wasn't working either.6 -
I'm pretty sure every company is filled with parasites who suck the life out of the 3 top people who keep everything working.
Maybe when we see a tech company enshitify, it's because those 3 people burned out and moved on.4 -
hey dickhead, you could, at least, test everything is working after you merged your branch. Now you have leaving the company, i'm the one in charge of cleaning up your shit.
Hope you will eat a dick every time one of your program fail 'cause of your lack of test2 -

Those moments when your app server is down and you restart everything and then somehow it is magically working again.2

Just learned my company says it owns everything I think or build, whether I am on the clock or not. It was in the handbook, not the paperwork I signed, but it says I agree to it if I keep working for them. It even says I cannot show interest in something without their approval. FUCK!13

-Writes a function that I'm going to schedule for django.
-works in development.
-adds it to production cron using django-crontab
-not working.
-spends 3 hours editing code, searching for similar problems and reading documentations but find nothing wrong and it's still not working.
-maybe it's django-crontab so I decide to just write a custom management command and call it through cron.
-still not working.
-calls function using what I'm telling cron to do.
-everything works.
-?????????
-adds logs to cron command (sorry for not making it earlier)
-mfw the code is not working because I imported 'patterns' in urls.py which has been deprecated since django 1.8 -

The worst thing that could actually happen: I was working with a designer on a side project which wanted to build and see it grow. Everything went good until... He stops the communication without any reason!
and because of us working remote from each other there was no way of finding out why...
The project died :(7 -
Whaaaat theeeee actual fuuuuuuuuck. So basically I've got a server running and everything is fine. All services are working and I can access the webserver running on it over every browser. But randomly my ssh access stopped working (can connect but doesn't return shit after last login message) and when loading the web config thingie from my provider it gives me an empty response (all other pages from the provider are working). So basically I've got a working server I cannot access. But I'd like to access it and cannot even restart that shitty thing.
Anybody else had a problem like that or has any idea wtf is going on?5 -
Shows client site in progress on demo server. I tell them not all of the responsive styles on a chunk of the pages are done yet.
Client: Everything looks wrong. If it's not working it should say 'coming soon'
Me: This is a demo server, it will be finished before the production server for sure
Client: Put coming soon up please1 -
A call centre manager is dictating the direction for the development of an app I'm working on.
Everything is working perfectly and then I'm asked to implement logic that makes sense to noone else but her. Then a week later shit breaks. Then I'm blamed. Then I implement a "fix". Repeat this cycle over and over.
I've started looking at local postings for a job in construction.1 -
So I am for sure not the best web developer but I have been working on a personal project for over a year now.
Teaching everything myself I somehow got to a pretty oldschool, stack I still use: PHP, HTML5, JS with Jquery, ...
Should I feel bad about that? I somehow can't bring myself to learning something else because at this time I can do everything I want to do with my simple setup. Am I missing out on something big?7 -
Two states of a developer every day:
• Fuck this job. I hate everyone and everything. My code sucks. It's not working. Why did I choose this career?! I am so miserable.
• It works! I'm a programmer god. Oh my goodness I'm smarter than everybody.4 -
Went back to Laravel from JS stack after a year. Thought I might have a lot of errors while setting up but everything is working so perfectly that I'm becoming suspicious 😕2

To all the developers with a permanent job:
Do you guys still reference the web when working on a project or you know everything and code everything perfectly w/o help?
Just wanted to know if I need more practice with my skills or am I good to go.12 -

I just created a users table and added everything except two important fields:
1. FirstName
2. LastName

I'm sorry, I have sinned :(3 -
Today we launched the website that I’ve been working on for months. But the stress and fatigue of everything else (my personal life, the sleepless nights) got to me. Even though I got it done and it looks great, all I can focus on is how I ended the project. How I let the frustration of everything get to me. I just needed to get that off my chest.1

I bought a corporate refurb HP desktop to use to replace a rpi3 in an IoT project I was working on. It came with Windows 10 on it. It has an ethernet port on it, which is what I prefer, but Windows 10 couldn't see it. So I installed Debian and everything worked perfectly, with no driver config.
-
Working along in a codebase for a few weeks. Then finding out there is a better more performant way to do something. Having to go back and tweak everything to use that feature you should have been using in the first place.
Thankfully, this has taught me to be more modular in the code.2 -
I was working on this ER model today and making everything look polished and alligned and then I proceed to generate the PNG out of it, but it turns out blurry and disgusting and eww and why the hell can't I change the dpi or ppi even? 96 dpi is not enough ...4
-
So I just spent over two hours trying to get...5 elements to align nice and even. Sometimes I would think I had it then..nope. Everything is thrown way off.
The one thing I've learned so far is to throw everything into more divs if something isn't working, and maybe that'll work6 -
When project managers are panicking and you know you are really so close from done, a few fixes and everything will fall into place. But manager is on your neck because "nothing is working" now you must take time to be their psychologist instead of working on what is actually making them panic 🙃 development is a rough space. One bug can stand in front of working products just like that
I really wanna say, please fuck off for a few hours. Thanks bye.3 -
Spent half the day trying to make something work. It wasn’t working before I started and I wasn’t making any progress. I don’t know why my changes weren’t working. So I yanked out everything I changed and put it back the way it was before I started. It works now. I don’t know why it works. I give up. 😂
-
Worst mistake ever :
Didn't care for changing environment while pip or apt, always did sudo for no reason.
One day installed Conda and unity. Didn't realise it changed everything to python3-gi. Everything fucked up.
Tried to fix by started removing Conda removed gnome*, lost GUI.
For first time worked on tty, after a 6 hour redbull session. Got back the system working.
First thing then done is learn to install in virtual and local environments.1 -
After two months of working on the new version I've finally decided to compile everything. I must say I was pretty confident that everything would compile pretty well.
I've never been so wrong in my life xD6 -
A short bittersweet story.
Ever since I quit my previous job a couple of months and started working as a freelancer, I haven't felt the need to visit devRant.
Everything that's rant worthy is essentially my fault.7 -
Reasons to dislike our work VPN when working remotely: Forces all traffic to be routed through it, not only the important internal stuff.
For some reason, I just dislike having everything I do potentially recorded and/or at least slowed down.13 -
working with non programmers - need to make a gigantic excel worksheet for everything that python could do in a dozen lines or two... 😑7

TLDR: There's some days where the Gods of IT are not with you. Just lost a whole day of work.
So this morning, we (me and my team) big performance issues with our web app. Lot's of requests time out, big latency, etc
Try to ssh to VPS, latency of 10 seconds between user input and output.
Usual checks: RAM ok, Proc ok, hard drive ok, reboot server (20 minutes), update/upgrade
We decide to call OVH. After 15 minutes call, we try to reboot in rescue mode. Reboot fails at 60% + everything freezes.
After an hour, OVH opens an incident ticket on +200 vps instances (including mine) everything is down during +1h
Finally everything is okay ! Even had time to migrate my new database schema.
Still, quick heavy on the mind but feels good to go home with everything working out correctly -

I'm very frustrated at my job. Nobody gives a shit to work and don't have technical knowledge. My colleague keeps on battering the peers. And colleagues are discussing everything without me.
So trying to switch company but no luck in a year. And I have stopped working at my job. Gives me serious anxiety.6 -
That moment when you're working on a website and all of the sudden the site (on localhost) stops working, you don't understand why, and then you realize you're offline :/, your site uses Jquery for everything (And because you're lazy, you didn't downloaded it... and you never will).1

Gotta love it when everything works flawlessly with the test API endpoint and credentials, but when I try to go live, there's suddenly a ton of additional configuration to get the third-party APIs working.
Why the fuck do you even provide a testing environment, if it's completely different from the live one?1 -

My god do I hate changing DNS settings. Spent an hour double and tripple checking everything and reading documentation. Was super stressed the entire time. Still ended up with a misconfiguration and 15 minutes downtime. But things seem to be working now.2

Dat feel when you have to threaten your laptop with a reinstall, before it starts working...
Literally happened to me yesterday.
And to ad to the drama I didn't have a bootable USB ready, so I forced the laptop to create the installer, that would ultimately be its own demise 😅
Suddenly, halfway through the setup of the USB, everything began working 😜 -

What have I been working absolutely all fucking day? FUCKING PRINTERS. I am so fucking tired of printers, everything to do with the stupid pieces of shit.
Then, some fuck stain has called me 6 times in the last hour trying to get me to drop all the things I’m doing and make him priority #1... Even though it has nothing to do with the computer and everything to do with the lack of fucking skills he has to preform his god damn job.

this is what I used mistakenly for assignment "=="

Since day 1, I've been eager in learning everything dev-related in English, and as it, I've focused on thinking, writing, shitting and eating english for a basis.
Now, where I work, I say, our country native language it's Spanish, but I feel bad whenever they tell me I must write everything in Spanish (code included). Maybe I'm overreacting or something.
So, here's my question for you, devs, when you're working on a coding-related project, should it be on English or not?3 -

I just finished this app I was working on, an app which I was supposed to be working on with a friend who never committed. It pisses me off that he didn't put in any input. So I created a desktop app a couple of months ago that relies on IG API. Everything was working perfectly. QA passed and everything was ready for rolling out. Took a
vacation last week, when I came back yesterday it was broken. My backup didn't tried checking what was wrong btw. Turned out IG got strict with its apps on June 1 (sandbox). He waited for me and didn't even bother to try to fix it.

I have a working game with no collision detection(basically not working). didn't touch unity for 4 days now. Fuck I hate when this happens.3 -
Working on a bug that in my opinion never worked. “Sr. Dev” dares to say the function has worked before. I’m a 100% sure it never did.

Yesterday a colleague was debugging some piece of typescript code for memory leaks as chrome and firefox were hanging at a certain page.
Her real brainfuck was that everything seemed to be working fine with edge. Microsoft, somehow, finds a way to fuck with developers. -
Created a piece of code (code A). It didn't work.
Found a replacement on StackOverflow (code B), commented out my code A and tried the new one.
Everything seemed fine, deleted code A. Tried the app and it crashed.
Re-added the commented code, and the app started working again.

The old company I was working at, was absolutely treating their new employees as shit. Everything was handled by the old timers who "knew how the world worked" (to those, TDD was useless, because as proven by this company only, it was a waste of time).
Everything that the new employees or "young talent" came up with, had to be talked through in a senior group, without the young talent. Never got anywhere, their software was absolute garbage (yet worked by sheer magic!!!!)
Today I learned that a former coworked had hos LinkedIn account say "[company]: waste of time."
And before you say "No company you work for, is a waste of time, as a software dev." i say, working for this company made you a worse developer. By. The. Fucking. Day.1 -

RANT
I am finally coming to the realization that I hate my job. I love working in my field but the place I working for saps my soul. It feels like a battle going to work every day.
I'm not sure if it because it is inherent working in local schools but it always just turns toxic. Teachers think you are their personal slave and why they can't get their class statistics up. Then they complain to the administration. That administration expects us, a skeleton crew, to bend over backwards, stop what we are doing, and fix everything. Because we aren't doing anything at all and we broke their shoot out of spite.
On top of that, and don't get me wrong, 1:1 is nice and all but it isn't just buying devices and giving them to teachers and hoping for the best. You have to invest in support, programs that work for the teachers in using the devices, and TRAIN THE TEACHERS!!! Teachers are smart in their own way but the online lifestyle isn't for everyone or of the box.
All in all, I just hate having to justify everything I do to people who just think everything is free and I have no personal life outside of work.

I have to stop this in the first place, but:
Rebuilding something that already exists as a plugin or module.
Why the fuck should I make everything from zero if there's already something working that suits all of my needs?
On the other hand, avoid abusing the usage of plugins in order to avoid demolishing performance4 -
Wk25: Objective C. I was working on a project for a plugin, the host for which was in objective C. Basically the language lets you get away with arbitrary code injection and runtime inspection of everything. You can print class names, function names and variable names, then use all.
We had to "use" these features slightly creatively to get access to everything we needed. And symbol stripping doesn't stop jack.1 -
you don't need a cms for everything. just use md and git instead of coding unmaintainable plugins for cms that stop working after upgrading to the next major version1

When I was working as a mentor in my last job, everything new I leared were hardened by teaching it to someone else. Now I am working as a software developer and I feel the necessity of teaching. This is a Rave, as opposed to a Rant. Working with a team that will actually test the backout scripts, and migrate twice in QA in order to make sure everything works. This is refreshing, because most teams don't test their backout, and you really are in trouble if your migration fails, and your backout doesn't work.

I make a new desktop, for a given task, support ticket, or whatever. And when I'm 'done'. I keep everything (ticket, whatever I was working on in vs code, related emails) open but minimize it all except the pull request waiting to happen.
If I get some feedback on the PR / changes I just fly through my virtual desktops and there it is and I'm ready to work.
Then after the PR goes through ... I keep it open for a bit anyway to be sure nothing bad happens.
Then after a while I shut it all down assuming that it is working well.
All this so I don't have to fire everything up again for a rando request or dork up or whatever.2 -
when you've been working on a project for months, and your client changes everything a week before it's due
-
My dream job, apart from everything that's been mentioned already, is working every other month or so: one month working (not too hard of course), one month off. I'd spend that either travelling or hobbying.
-
I've been working super hard for the past while.
I'm unhappy with almost all my work but my coworkers seem happy so whatever.
I'm just constantly irritated with myself for taking so long or making mistakes or whatever.
Gotta give a presentation tomorrow, not feeling excited.
Everything sucks , god fuckinngfck fuck my life2 -
I just got my first 17in laptop. It's a dell XPS 9700. I wiped it and installed Arch Linux within minutes of unboxing! lol. I just finished and we're at 6 hours from delivery (4 hours of beer drinking and) 2 hours of config later, I'm posting on devrants. Everything but the audio and nvidia graphics worked OOTB. I'm still working on getting nvidia prime working on Wayland. Tips welcome!5
-
4 hours later and my code is finally working and as usual it was only one line causing everything but on the bright side I now now how to use mocks and spies
-
Working with a spaghetti wordpress site makes me wanna scream. I don't even know if my changes have no effect because I fucked something up or there is some absurd caching system that thwarts everything I do.1
-
For the past 4-5 years I was working with my friend or alone on multiple projects. Everything was on my head (from meetings with client to configuring CI) I became exhausted and for a change I agreed to join bigger team where I was suppose to be just regular developer. Now I know why I was working alone XD1
-
Sometimes I feel like I can achieve everything in this very moment, sometimes, I'm like "meh! why do I exist? why I'm working that hard." 🥴1
-
Was working on fixing some test cases in js, tried everything i could but part of test case was never executing.
After couple of days of pulling my hairs, found someone had overriden the test lib methods by mistake😭😭3 -
WhatsApp Messenger is not working today here in Mexico. I wonder how'severything going on over there 😂😂😂 it brings to mind once when I first released to production some dlls I modified. The bank core didn't work 10 minutes5
-
I'm so happy today. Fixed a bug that was haunting me for weeks. My ionic app was working on Android, the browser, the toaster,... Everything but an iPhone. I thought it was an issue with iOS and this bug really messed with me.1
-
best part of programming is when you don't know what the hell you doin , but everything is working perfect.1
-
Hey, I actually calculated and averaged everything, and I found out I only spend about 43.4 repeating percent of my time awake actually working.
Can you all calculate yours as well to see if I’m a lazy slob or if this is normal?7 -
with all of this experience and working with so many different people I learned.
No, matter where you switch, everything is same the only thing matter in the end is whether you get coffee served on your table or you have to make it yourself. -
Yo any webdevs out there is forefox the nes IE ? I'm working on a simple dashboard for a project i used Justgage for gauges the whole thing looks great in chrome, safari, edge and opera. in firefox everything went to shit ... what the actual fuck !!!!!

3D Printer problems
Anet A8
Fan problem.
Hey guys.
So, I have a problem with my printer.
The fan that cools the printed model (fan1) isn't working... and everything seems fine.
What should I do to find out what the problem is?
Thanks18 -
Whenever I thought everything is okay and I am all good for the day, earphone stopped working from one side.2
-
Fucking Ruby.
Installed my new job's codebase on my machine and it's fucked everything.
While trying to get the database working, someone's dropped my User table, so I can't log in as 'Josh' anymore.
Now I can't compile scss assets without a fucking gem error.
I'M IN A PYTHON ENVIRONMENT, FUCK OFF!
GRR.1 -
Started working in this company, contract is for 5 weekz, 1 app, 1 project. Good money, good everything.
First day: "hello, this is your coworker".
THIS GUY CAN'T EVEN DO AN N+1 METHOD. -
Was working on a nestjs api and building it on a starter template. After a year of work nest framework has been upgraded by two major version and api is unupgradable and in dependency hell.
Solved it by doing a transplant into new codebase built using cli. Only took two days. Everything went better than expected. -
From more than a month I've been working on Web designing and today I opened up Android studio to work on a small project and I felt like I almost forgot everything. This happens with you guys too?1
-
I cant believe how powerful and FAST nextjs is. Very smooth and lightweight. Easy to work with.
Also angular became super fast and smooth. 5 years ago in 2018 i remember working in angular and it was not that fast. The project structure was a bit messy. But now everything has drastically improved and became simplified.
I love both now. Happy to be working in both2 -
Well most of my friends are developers, so we either are working or going out, eating, drinking or just ranting haha... With my girlfriend and my daughter is a little bit more complicated, but they're there to remind me that not everything in life should be about work
-
I am so tired of working for big multinationals with lots of collegues.
It feels like you are expected to remember -everything- anyone ever said at some point in time.
I honestly can't keep track of all decisions made in the past ten meetings in the last week, what all other twelve teams are working on or the personal preferences of somebody on the other end of the globe.
I just want to write code. Is that so much to ask? -
Today before leaving, the QA said she found problems in 3 issues I've been working on, until now everything was ok. Tomorrow is the closing of the Sprint but I can't present this progress because it's not completed...
I know the QA is doing her job but why now?
Hopefully I'll fix it tomorrow before the meeting1 -
Last week, I was stuck with an annoying bug. Come to work today, reverted back to the previous commit, started over and everything worked.
I guess this is (it was working on my machine)^(-1) -
when you don't know the timeline of the project you're working on. So you don't know if you should rewrite everything to be more flexible in the future2
-
Working as sole dev and learning everything on the fly, including "proper" ways to write code. Now that I work in a team, I can see that I'm at least adequate at my job.
-
It's like my life is divided into two parts these days. Some days I wake up and the sun is shining and everything feels good. Other days I wake up and remember that I'm going to be working on writing unit tests all day. :/
-
Do you know when you're testing your code and anything works as it should, even when everything looks all right? I dunno how about you, but... everytime this happens, I just change var/function name to something like "fuckingCalculate()" or "suckerAvg". It's similar as punching an old TV everytime it stops, or kicking a door that doesn't open.
.
.
Once I change the var/function to It's previous name, everything stops working as before.
.
What a shame... -
I work very hard to the point I have no medical leave in all the time I have been working, I take do I get any respect nope at every opportunity I get shat on, blamed for everything today I was told off for thinking.5

The lovely moment when you find the library which does everything that you’ve been looking for, install the flippin’ NuGet and get busy....
Next day you compile and run... just to make sure that the old stuff are still working, only to find out that yesterday’s NuGet flipped up everything else’s dependencies.... *fml and let me die !! -
I've been doing stuff on my free time after school for about 3 years now. And i cant keep working on projects without losing motivation or getting stuck without a solution and then giving up, i've also tried working with a lot of teams and friends but it seems like everything i do or i work on ends up cancelled or full of issues and roadblocks. any advice?4
-
I just spent 6 hours trying to get JupyterHub working with Real-time collaboration.
Time. Fucking. Wasted.
Outdated or non-existent documentation. Weird conventions. Everything is just annoying.
Is it really just hard to push a complete product to production instead of an half-ass untested mess?1 -
Bought a new Small Netbook recently.
Wanted to install Linux, because Yeah, working with Linux All the time and I'm " in love" with it ;)
But ... it's not working properly.. No Sound, some keys aren't supported and some other Shit that arent working as expected.
Shit. Tried everything, multiple times, the Hardware is not really compatible with Linux. Damn, this is the only shit about Linux..
Yeah, I'm now so desperated, that I've Just installed Windows 10.
My only hope - the new bash/Power Shell. Does anybody has made some (good) experience with it?9 -
So a web service wasn't working, I am contacting the one that developed it.
"Have you updated your web references ?"
.... are you actually meaning that I have to change again everything in my code because you changed things without warning ?
*update*
Yes, you did. (´;д;`) why -

Please guys I need ya help. I added a scrollview to a project I was working on and it messed up my preview. It just took everything and positioned it above, even if I tried aligning to the parent bottom, it didn't move. Please any possible solutions to that. I am working with Android studio.1

Freaking hell, why google fucking sign in not working after the app is on google play, I have tried everything, run the release app on device and everything works, I thought they are using the bundles to generate and sign the apks so learned everything about fucking bundling and generated app bundles and signed it and generated .apks file locally “I already used the release key not debug key” double checked Auth api keys and installed on device and fucking everything works on the device except if I upload to google play then download to device the middle finger is waiting and google sign in not fucking working, I moved on and attached the app to Logcat and after a lot of digging I saw the fucking error 12501, I went to sleep after seeing this fucking error number. I’m fucking traveling now.

Is anyone using Linux on HP Pavilion (Touchscreen)?
Just wanted to know that everything is working properly or not?7 -
Just got asked to head a non profit project. I've decided I want everything in JS because I'm working with very inexperienced developers, so I want to know people's favorite Node.js MVC and Server, please and thank you!4
-
working with Mapbox and so far everything works except displaying custom svg pointers for single points while clustering the multiples.
the documentation is only semi useful.
and my work-at-home coworker keeps meowing at me like that guy who wants to talk about TV shows whenever I'm working
I want a nap! -
Just realized I can't use my new Linux laptop for work because we use Xamarin. And there is no working version for Linux yet. Also no one knows when there will be one. Why support everything except for Linux?5
-
Its been a month my desktop stopped working and i tried to get it repaired from a local workshop. The guy tried everything to make it work but failed.
Now i am stuck with
no computer to trade forex, work on my personal projects.
Time wasted....9 -
So I am working on a Java library with minimal dependencies. Everything goes well until you dont want clients knowing how to construct the internal objects and you dont have a depenency injection framework to help.
Unit testing becomes that bit trickier1 -
Ooh man, the last month I been working all day in my home PC.. and I realized how much I have problem with the noise from the fans and everything. I truly believe programming need complete silence to be productive... #soundproofeverything4
-
We learn more with blockers and errors.
I do learn more by doing each day rather than a tutorial/doc.
PS:There need to be a basic idea about the env we are working but It'snt mostly effective/practical to learn everything and work or implement in that.1 -
I've been working on an ERP system these days. Learned how to properly use AJAX and JS. Also, my code is so much organized now, I can really say I'm a better dev now than I was before and this particular project is making me give my everything everyday.
-
I told them I can do everything from front end, back end, to iOS and mac app, just not Android. I don't like Android. Now they are assigning Android tasks to me, I am working like shit and very unhappy.
Am I not professional or is this ok?2 -
You know when you start making some guide/tutorial, everything is working e.g for 1 hour, step by step.
Theeeeen suddenly 1 error from universe stopped your work. Checking for the error debugging it next hour, asking questions online aaand ? no one has an answer. Yeah that's it stick with it, or restart ;D4 -
Don't you love how bad programmers show off what they did that "works"? I mean, because "working" is everything you have to consider in a software.3
-
After a year and half of learning and working in web development I thought it would be a good choice to make a career move to learn COBOL. I'm now a mainframe programmer writing COBOL all day. The struggle is real folks.
Everything I learned GONE! -
Just deployed my Nodejs app but some routes are returning *503 Service Unavailable*.
And others are working just fine
Is there a special way to name routes when on production?
Because everything was working fine on localhost
Thanks for your help1 -
This is very annoying. Even more annoying because everything appears to be working great other than this ugly malformed error message:
-
Wasted 3 hrs on this today:
-Wanted to control pi gpio pins from php web server
-shell_exec(gpio write x x) wasnt working for me
-made a python script for gpio toggling which i wanted to execute with shell_exec
-still not working. Changed permissions, changed code , did everything possible SO MANY TIMES!
-Turns out if i had added a '-g' in the gpio write command..it would have worked in the first place!
FUUUUCK!!!!!!! -
I was working on a cloud image for about 2 months and wasn't aware of expiration date of image. Now my all work is gone and I don't know how to recover my files.
Will have to do everything again. 😡😣 -

Facebook Pages Manager Android app is not working properly. I am not receiving push notifications when people contact me via page inbox. Already tried everything I could think of: disabling battery saving for pages manager app, making sure notifications are all checked in facebook page settings and etc. Any idea how to fix this?
-
We uploaded a theme (The7) to a fresh new wordpress installation.
We imported a few pages and then BOOM! everything stopped working.
That fucking theme and its plugins just destroy the whole server... -
So I've been working with heavily data centric applications for 15 years or so. And I must say moving our data warehouse into the G Cloud was the worst idea ever. No tooling, everything is barely working, debugging is a nightmare.
If you are thinking about it, just don't.3 -
After working with ReasonML/Bucklescript for nearly half a year, it is very hard to go back to plain js even with flowtype.
I feel paced by the language AND especially by untyped libraries which makes everything I import a fucking any type, gaaaaaah! -
Sooo. That starts to be a bit annoying:
I'm working on a large refactoring with a pretty good inheritance / generic system. And some code generators.
Rghjt now I'm doing a script which generate code files, which will generate code-gen templates which will generate final files.
It's funny and it's a one shot generation, but still. So much abstraction.
(End result is good tho. Everything in small files less than 15 lignes of code. Everything structured.) -
Anyone knows some good resources about git?
I use it everyday - but only the basic add, commit, push, merge commands. I'd like to get a deeper understanding of git and of different workflows (like working with rebasing).
So if anyone has a recommendation for a book or something where everything is at one place - please let me know 😀1 -
I just love when all my code is perfect and clean... then I compile it to see my changes... and everything is fucking broken.. so I think "okay, let me see if I missed something or forgot a space or something stupid."... nope not that *recompiles* nothing is showing up.
"That's cool too, who needs a working website anyways." -
Working in a city that is slightly hard to reach if you don't live near by....
All the people who come to interviews are fucking weiedos that don't even know basic stuff..
I'll just write everything myself i guess 😡 -
Working all day long on a new feature to resolve a perf issue but realised at 6pm only that everything was pointless. I love my job
