Best prank I did to a office must be that one I did when I was 7 years old:
> Sat at a schoolcomputer and explored stuff
> Found alot of network printers
> Found one called "city hall front desk"
> Created a word-document with the biggest font possible
> Wrote "Dick"
> 2000 pages of the word "dick"
> Print 2000 copies
> Did the same to a kindergarten and a "rival school"
> Never got caught because I used my teachers novell account ( the password was his name)
I miss novell15 -

fullstackchris: Ah, here's a solution we can use!
boss: I don't want to use it because it is too complicated.
fullstackchris: ok, that's fine with me...
[one week later] boss: oh I found this nice site that does X, can we do X?
fullstackchris: YES, THAT'S EXACTLY THE SOLUTION I ALREADY FOUND, *AFTER* YOU ASKED ME TO LOOK FOR A SOLUTION, AND IN THE END YOU DIDN'T WANT TO DO IT. OH HAVE YOU CHANGED YOUR MIND?!?!

After interviewing tens of candidates, finally found that one guy who doesn't start the conversation by mentioning jQuery 😂
Too many people started off with jQuery and didn't even bother to learn more about Javascript itself.11 -
While implementing a new feature I got “error in function A”.
I spent one day trying to figure out what was wrong.
At the end I found that someone copy/paste “function A” debug comments in “function B”.
I almost went to jail.4 -

Discovered this app and the cute avatars. Found out you need at least 10 points to create one, so here I go! Just finished my third year in computer science, now exploiting the positive discrimination for girls to get summer programming jobs ;).17

I recently had the problem with my Galaxy S8 that my camera won't focus. Searched for solution. Found one which said: "Just hit the side of your phone when the camera is on."

A few weeks before, my neighbor came to me saying his wifi is hacked and someone is abusing it.
So I tried the wifi and found out there is no password. And the one who was abusing a simple open wifi was me XD.
So I set a password for her and disabled wps. But hopefully no one (expect devrant) will know I used that much bandwidth.2 -

If you're angry at someone not figuring out your code because it was “obvious”, remember:
even before 9/11 happened, emergency lines found out they should say “nine-one-one” instead of “nine-eleven”. Why? Because panicking people were looking for “eleven” button on the keypad. They learned it the hard way.

Don't get me wrong, Dart is a darling. But also at the same time is like that one time you thought you found a good band and end up reading their wiki and one of the members turns out to be a wife beater.
Feels so good at the beginning and you feel you can do anything until you see the shortcomings and feel weird about committing time to it. -

Today was not my sharpest day but managed to sit eight hours on this chair with a laptop on my arm leaning. It's very comfortable.
I made a regex interpreter. Three versions, the first one was nicely programmed and functional but found out that it was 16 times slower than the clib one (at least!). Then i found out how extremely fast the clib one was and found out that the compiling to bytecode what they do is extremely effective. So, i've wrote my one bytecode compiler that is faster than theirs. So, the second version was born. After abusing that thing to find out what kinda speeds i could get out of it, it became very unmaintainable, beyond resque. So i made third version, this one is very performant. It supports [abc]{3} (three times dupplicating group) for example. It supports 0-9 and a-z that converts to 'd' and 'a' (shorter for speed). It converts [a0-9a-z]]{3} to [lada][lada][lada]. The bytecode is not smaller many times than source, but not having to think, suits the interpreter very well. It's blazing fast.
I wish I could smth like this for a living. Develop a language for a living or socket servers. Tired of python (great language, but boring).
Thanks for listening to my tedtalk6 -
So I got new internet two days ago but I never had time to run a speed test. Ran one this morning and found that I'm getting 113/15mbs when I'm paying for 60/5. Thanks spectrum for using the "median speed is" language instead of "up to" language.3

For hours I spent my time debugging my code, trying different approach to the same code function. Looking for one simple invisible mistake, that is when I want to make a delete request to the IndexedDB.
The request are fine without running a single error, the success event fires perfectly. But one thing which is unexpected, the object inside IndexedDB did not vanish at all. The data stay the same without any flaws (but how can that be, when the 'delete success' event fired? IT SHOULD BE GONE BY NOW!). No kidding, for hours I debug my code, yet found nothing's wrong!
Until one moment I found out the datatype of key I gave the request are different from the object I wanted to delete, the object has a key of 4 and I gave the request "4". I'm so pissed at this moment making me googled 'developer rant' and found this site.
Really! God Bless 1 !== '1'.5 -

Some years ago... And some xp less.
An old WordPress installation was attacked and our server was sending thousands of spam mails.
I found out that there was a line of code in the top of every php file. And I removed these files.
The problem was that
1) I was copying this fcking line to new files because I was thinking it was my code.
2) I found a Linux command to detect all these files and I removed them one by one. In every file. Many many files.

debugging a performance issue. basically the original dev had no idea what a database was for. system was generating millions of buffered reads, and paging horribly.
to see if an id existed they had done the following:
fetch all 1 million rows into an array.
iterate the array looking for a match.
if found, set found=true
continue to iterate the rest of the array.
return found.
repeat at every login.
replaced with
return person.get(id)
set world record for most i/o avoided with one liner.1 -
Just found out that this whole time I've been using the awful, half-baked, abandoned library instead of the respected, feature-rich, popular one.
Why did it appear first in my search results? Only god knows.

Just found a letter from old girlfriends and lovers, and a folder full of a closed form of soft non-gender hentai...
Why do I find homoerotic hentai art better then more normal hentai... I don't know, but I still do.
Well, I'm just gonna save a few... hehe
Btw, also found some paintings and drawings I forgot I've done, 15 years ago. :D2 -
I have plenty of those but one that shines out from the croud is one frontend guy.
He had to modify some javascript slider but couldn't figure out how.
So he comes to me and tells me he found the code where the slider is initialized but changes are not applied.
I walk up to his desk and he shows me some CSS code with #slider selector in it.6 -
After meddling around with all kinds of goopy front end frameworks I decided to take a look at TypeScript (in Angular 2).
I must say, as a Java developer: Why have I only found this now??
Granted, I have only played around with it for one day.1 -

Conversation with American developers, suddenly we began to talk about college and how in debt they are. I tell them that don't have an education related debt.
They were skeptical at first, but then we found that my entire education costed less than one semester for them. That's one positive thing about living here.
How about you guys? Happy with the cost of higher education where you live?3 -
As a 17 year old iOS Developer it is hard to find iOS jobs. I found one and 8 months after working here their funding is low and they can’t afford for me to work anymore and are cutting my hours😤11

Couldn't sleep this morning, so at 6am I tried to tackle the bug that gave me a hard time yesterday... at 10am I found the bug, and so I remembered the number one rule when coding.
KISS? Nope.
The number one rule is that your past self is dumb and he probably created the bug in the easy part of the code... you know, the one you didn't even check because of-course-the-bug-cannot-be-there-Im-not-stupid.2 -
I want to create multiple entries on a worklist with one message in one of the systems we work with.
I googled the issue and miraculously found link about precisely this issue...
It was a mailing list... with my messages... last message: "thanks, i managed to figure it all out"...
And no details...
Well, fuck me...2 -
This "rootless" OS X El Capitan security feature is bullshit for developers. Just found that one out the hard way.2
-
One thing that i found in common among most of rants was devs getting annoyed by people who interrupt them while coding, obviously it's because we love what we do while in most jobs they wish for someone interrupting them so they can stop working for a while

So Pop!_OS is my primary OS for development and Windows is my primary OS for gaming. I have Pop!_OS installed on my laptop (alongside Windows but I almost never use Windows on my laptop) and Windows on my desktop gaming computer.
One of the things I love about Debian-based OSes like Pop is the apt package manager. One of the things I've always hated about Windows is the fact it was lacking a cli package manager like apt.
Then I did a Google search for one and found Chocolatey. Curious about it, I installed it on my laptop (I was in Windows at the time to use FL Studio, which I've found doesn't work very happily with Wine.) With Chocolatey, I installed VirtualBox and Vagrant, and I have to say, I'm not disappointed. I'm ecstatic I've finally found a cli package manager for Windows.
TL;DR: If you use Windows and you don't have Chocolatey, get it.1 -
I just found out my router has 2 SEPARATE places where you can specify the DNS servers. So I changed one place but not the other, and they don't seem to be linked! Such bullshit design.2

Created a piece of code (code A). It didn't work.
Found a replacement on StackOverflow (code B), commented out my code A and tried the new one.
Everything seemed fine, deleted code A. Tried the app and it crashed.
Re-added the commented code, and the app started working again.

I'll never finish this shit!!!
Whenever I close a task I end up creating one or two more I found in the way, it's like an infinite rollercoaster of technical debt and perfectionist-me throwing work at myself.1 -
Found this in one of the group's I'm in on Facebook. When everyone called him out on scamming people into helping him mine Etherium, he responded with so much word salad about entrepreneurship and blockchain he could open up a vegetarian eatery.

Sometimes, switching coding languages can be bad if they are the same "kind".

Clients started using our system after a lot of infrastructure issues, a few days later everything stopped working. Hell break loose in the company one day the developers fix the issue next day was something similar. After a week of threats, fights and gunshots, one of the colleagues found out that one DB script file is missing, git history can't show why. After going a bit deeper with other tools, they found that I did a fucked up git merge that overwritten the original script. And that was 3 months ago...needless to say that the team got very, very pissed... So my tip is, be careful with git mine and theirs because that can fuck you up...2

It's probably no news that I love Typescript's versatile and powerful generics. Today I found what is probably the most brilliant use of these tools to solve a real problem. This package exports one generic type which takes one generic argument, reads it like a JSON schema and returns the Typescript type for it:

I found that when I worked on a Mac I only had one screen and worked quit productively. I didn't feel or miss only having one screen.
But when I'm using Windows, I struggle to work with less than two screens, in fact I could do with six! 😂
Is it just me or has anyone else experienced the same?
P.S. good to know I'm not alone 🤓

I was talking to a few people at my school while playing with the Chrome dev shell, one of them told me to trace the path for Pornhub, after a bit I learned that the bottom IP was from Amazon Tech. After some more interesting searches I found out the Amazon placed a 3.4 billion bid to buy Pornhub.
I found this interesting to say the least.
