You realize how beautiful it is to work in the back-end when...
"Can you move it down 1px?"
"Can you try this color?"
"Can you make it pop more?"
"Can you make the animation 0.01ms faster?"
Millions more...10 -
"I wish I could browse devRant at work"
Well wish no more!

@dfox will I have my third entry on the projects page? 😇48 -
Dev submitting PR: “Testing instructions: Self explanatory”
Dev reviewing PR: You need to be a bit more verbose than that.
Dev submitting PR: “Testing instruction: Feature should work as expected”
Dev reviewing PR: *sigh*… Feature doesn’t work as expected
Dev submitting PR: WHAT IS NOT WORKING AS EXPECTED??? I NEED MORE DETAIL THAN THAT!!
Dev reviewing PR: …….So do I you muppet5 -
Was just asked to take on even more work. Asked for a raise. "there's no room in the organization for a new position". Yes, but you can still pay me more.
I'm not comfortable enough to do more work without more pay. Sorry.
We'll see what happens.14 -
At work today. Someone unregistered a domain name (don't remember the exact one) with something funny/positive about beer (for example beerisawesome.com).
Collegue: What?! Why would you unregister this?!?
*tells the boss*
Boss: well someone's got their priorities fucking wrong.
😆3 -
Agency: "Why don't you do more free work for us? When you do that we can give you better jobs for money?"
Me: "so if I do free work for you, I get to do paid work as a reward? ..you know that I am a freelancer, not your employee, don't you?"
*agencysulking*4 -
Best Git commit msg I ever saw was nothing more than: "please work"
...found after a junior dev left our company and we were reviewing things4 -
Today, I have a meeting with my managers. I’m going to demand more work and higher pay.
Wish me luck12 -
Got inspired by a rant and got something to make my desk at work more green.
What should I name him/her?30 -
Am I the only one who solves more bugs in my head on the commute home from work than I actually do at work?10

Questions I ask myself when things get serious at work: "Do giraffes get struck by lightning more often than other animals?"2
-
1. Try to stay sane in startup chaos
2. Use more vacation days
3. Separate work and free time a bit more
4. Get out into nature more
5. Hire 50+ good developers & get company to 15M active end users while doing all of the above5 -
Work, the haiku:
(Plus more Dilbert)
“Where are you on this?”
“I’m where JIRA says I am”
“Ok, but how far?”8 -

On June 2016, I've quite my job. 15 years as developer/system administrator in a middle company in switzerland. 30 people with everyday problem. 30 calls per day.
Now, i work in my own company.
More work, no more time, but u know what? No regrets!! I'm freeeeeeee! :p3 -
You go to work, have no work to do, so you work on your own personal projects.
Whats more fun than getting paid to do whatever you want...3 -
Today I decided to quit my job. Yesterday I had my yearly review couldn't be more perfect, I did everything they asked me for and more (help with recruitment, animate conferences, work very late a lot of time, work during my vacation days...) yet to be surprised that I will only have 3% raise (on a low salary). I feel not valued and I was very disappointed :(8
-
I'm alone in the office today and already done a lot of work. How can I be so much more productive when nobody is around.10
-
So day 2 of my python automations.
I have spent 6 hours and a lot of stack overflow “research” to saved myself 45 minutes a day with file downloads (web & ftp and outlook emails), excel spreadsheets and data manipulation macros, all stored in a nice tidy zip file at the end.
Now to find a way to send to a web server for digestion 😎
And all of this in a poor 90 lines 😧
God damn why didn’t I look into this earlier?2 -
Once a day, take some time to read your colleagues' commits.
You will see how they work, you will learn how they solve problems, you will understand their flow and you will know more and more parts of the code base.1 -
I bought myself a small summer gift 😍
This may or may not encourage me to work more at home this summer.23 -
You're already working 60 hour weeks and your client decides to give you even more work because you're delivering and meeting all the deadlines.5
-
'Be long-term lazy.'
As in:
Work hard.
DRY.
If it takes more than 20 minutes, then automate it.
Prevent repeated work by testing just enough.1 -
there's this thing I've noticed...
º the more interesting DEV task I'm working on, the more I forget to eat (sometimes at all @9-5)
º the more boring/repelling DEV task I'm working on, the more snack breaks I take
Am I alone here?
Does that mean exciting DEV (only?) work is more likely to keep you fit and boring tasks are dragging you to obesity?2 -
- hire a new Dev.
- not burnout this year
- work less, deliver more
- start a open source side project and make it production ready7 -
I LOVE WORK FROM HOME!! I love it sooooo much. You suckers think I’m actually doing work? HAHA. No honest, I’m so much more productive at home than in the office! Hahaha I love this!!!8
-
When coding at work is too intense to return the coffee mugs. One more to complete the triangle and call to our the coffee gods.4
-
The reason I drink a lot of water so that I can go to the washroom more often just to waste time while I'm at work.
I haven't been assigned any work for this week. Maybe I'll get fired. My manager isn't showing any appreciation towards my work.6 -
My company went remote since the outbreak, surprisingly, more work was getting done, so we are completely remote.3
-
i kinda got fired because they have no more work for me and i think i have a new job already, i haven't even grieved yet lol4
-
I get more work done when I know I'm leaving early than when I'm in the office for a whole day....2
-
Found devRant recently. Now I find myself spending more time here than doing any productive work... Fuck!4
-
Sometimes having a family is more stressful than work... love my wife and daughter deeply but they are exhausting 😓7
-
FUCK STATIC-SIZED ARRAY!!!
FUCK YOU!!!!
FOR MORE THAN 3 HOURS I TRY TO ADD A VALUE TO AN ARRAY
Nothing work...
Nothing...
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!18 -
I work slow and my work is delayed all because you keep on changing the design and the UX, adding more features and yet keeping the same deadline
-
They've told me I'm going to have to start doing timesheets.
When should I tell them I'm going to start producing work much more slowly?6 -
That look when a coworker who could not write a logic statement tells you to comment out more of your work!1
-
Assuming you make $100k and that's more than covers your cost of living.
Would you prefer being able to work from home whenever you need or make $30k more but have to goto the office pretty much every day?
The commute is 1hr.37 -
"I met with a potential client today and part of their opening gambit was how they were looking for revolutionary work delivered within a tight timescale, and if the work could be done a reduced rate then they’d be able to send a load more work our way. … They were saying that they wanted work that was fast, good, and cheap. And if the work was fast, good, and cheap enough, the reward would be the offer of more work that is fast, good, and cheap. … Let me be clear about this, these people are evil, and their work is poison. " - Hoss Gifford1

Last year my goals were two:
- work less
- earn more
and I only achieved the second one.
Based on that, my new resolutions are:
- sleep more
- do not work more
- earn more or equal
- to gain stability
- more efficient workouts7 -
Wohoo!!! Boss is paying me more!
Still a bargain for the level of work I’m doing but at least it is more reasonable.1 -
The devRant paradox: the less time you spend on devRant, the more time you have to do your daily work, the more freetime you have to spend on devRant!1
-
Need to send a mail to a more senior member of the team. Could use a hand translating the below into something more work appropriate.
"You have reached a new level of wrong, you insufferable prick, please just shut up and leave"11 -
Whatever was going on in the weekdays ... I forget about it right here, in my garden.
Have a nice weekend you all.6 -
Finally got around to updating the vanillia sleep screen to something more QA work flow base.

The Last Rodeo
Hi dear ranters. I've been a dev since I was 12, that makes 18 freakin years. Although I love my job and being someone who not only consumes but also produces, I am a bit grown tired of the industry.
About 6 years ago I cut ties from the last agency I worked with to become a freelancer. I ignited many projects, helped many of my customers (still helping most of them) to realize their goals. But I've come to realize that my country doesn't like old school laborers like myself (for some reasons I would explain if asked).
So I've been thinking: what would I do if I wasn't doing this job? What would you do for living if you were to stop being a developer? Let's have a chat.31 -
Sad day when you find out you work for a company who cares more about a working product than a good product.5
-
The good part is with each update Android studio gets more and more powerful with more and more features.
The sad part work each update Android studio gets heavier and even the basic feature is a pain in the ass to work with
-One sad Android developer ;)2 -
The development process that my boss called SCRUM. It was anything but. Management thought they could make us do more work than possible.2
-
Man, I am not a stickers guy, but I am seriously considering putting one or more of these on my apple monitor at work.2
-
More work-related than dev-related:
- Saying "yes" to extra work more often than necessary.
- Wanting to do everything myself and not delegating enough.
- Getting too stressed out.
- Avoiding conflicts and confrontations (even necessary ones!) and not being assertive enough.
- Overthinking everything.1 -
Never do personal stuff at work, never do work stuff unless hours are being counted. Proper separation of duties.
Boss always tells us we only work 38 hours a week and any other time we do we can take off later.
Procrastination for work projects thus usually involves working on unrelated, more exciting projects instead of the one with the hard deadline ;)1 -
copied a code for android from stackoverflow and it worked
edited the code no more works
removed the code and pasted the original code from stackoverflow and still doesnt work
clean and build and now the code starts to work7 -
All those complaints about having to maintain the shitty code the last developer left behind...
I work on a new project Monday. Modern stack on a platform I have no knowledge about. No one else more experienced to work with. I AM THAT LAST DEVELOPER!!!6 -
I was struggling to make advancements in my task because I was so oriented by the "more code means more work done"... I wasn't producing at all. Now that I grabbed a notebook and a pen and started to think things through, things are finally rolling. Sometimes it's 90% thinking and 10% coding. In addition to that, I can't even write spagetti code after getting a solid concept written in pen. I just hate that I spend so much time thinking until something good comes up. But hey now it's rollinnnnnn.undefined pen productivity less is more notebook efficient implementations mean more puzzles work smart not hard4
-
Me been in the company for almost more than a year now and still understanding the system.
Another developer, been here for around 4 months, and where ever I look, she will be contributing. Whether it's coding or resovling complex host issues. She works a lot.
I feel lucky to be able to work with her and also all other Devs in this team are awesome.
My motivational source and inspiration to work harder and contribute more and more to the team. -
Debugging JS,
*uses chrome devtools*, breakpoints work, everything loads, can work on fixing bug
*uses firefox devtools*, takes more time than IE to show up, the UI doesn't show up, can cry in the corner.
Why is firefox debugger so bad :/6 -
Stupid egos/politics at work
Seriously the work will be more enjoyable and with less drama fuck that -
Every job interview I go through I feel more certain that I need to get out of my job asap and more doubtful that I wanna work with these companies.
-
<rant>So I'm new to the having-meetings-every-waking-moment-of-the-day thing... Just wondering if anyone is supposed to get anything done??
Or are we supposed to gather more and more work to do during each meeting?
The only times I've been able to do work is when I can mute the mic or say I'm in a "lunch meeting"!!
Does this happen to everybody???
</rant>8 -
I wish it was more acceptable to leave a job every 2 or 3 years. I like seeing how different developers work and learning from more than just the same 5 people everyday.3
-
Got hired for my UI knowledge, then I get stuck doing backend work since I started, while the mountain of UI work just continues to grow and they refuse to let me work on it instead of hiring more backend help. Cool cool cool cool.12
-
Brought a stressball into work today (not a devrant one) and it popped within 10 minutes, of course causing more stress.
-
The more I go through devRant the more I think I wanna work alone... or with a small group of devs I know 😐 (as in, freelancer or something. Not in a company)8
-
"I don't like it. Fix it."
No more explanation available. Plenty of constructive criticism to work on there then... -
Back with more features now!
Cuz I don't have anything to do at work
This image is composed of screenshots from season three3 -
Work from home
Expectation:
- Free time from commute, more time for gaming
Reality:
- Free time from commute, more time for dev works
p.s. I'm more tired these days2 -
You ever have to work with people that are worse than you? and yet everyone in the group sees them as more competent? So much so that they get to be involved more with the projects than you are?
I hate this feeling, I'm just as good. -
You are not prioritizing your work!!!
Well I am but you keep throwing more work in my direction on like a daily basis ...3 -
Client : you are hired as a developer.
Me : we need more developers as there's more work and less time.
Client : Ok, here's another dev
(Meanwhile me doing my work...)
ON THE DAY OF DEMO :
Me : Here's the demo.
Client: it's incomplete, where's more work?
Me: that's the part of 2nd dev you hired before
Client : I don't care, I fucking need a work!
Me inside: (Why the fuck would the first dev becomes a task/team manager just because is the first one to join the project! Arrrgh!!! Hire a fucking scrum master to manage your fucking tasks/team, am just a fucking dev! )6 -
I have a more than average paying job. Cool manager who is okay with almost anything I do .The work place and colleagues are awesome but I'm not getting any work. My title says SE but all I do at work is play. Should I leave this place or stay and work on my side projects?7
-
First time back to work today after a month long break. It was soul crushing. I don’t know if I’m permanently burnt out or just seriously disenfranchised with the corporate world but I would have thought after a holiday I would be energised and ready to go. It turns out after coming back to work I feel exactly the fucking same! Tired, exhausted, discontent, irritable and most importantly BORED. I am bored spending 8+ hours a day at a computer chair responding to emails and teams messages! Has anyone felt like this before? Did you ever overcome it? I’m worried as I’m getting older I’m losing my love more and more for programming whilst simultaneously hating the concept of work more and more.5
-
that moment when you want to code but don't have anything to work on... I need more programming friends5
-
I'm pretty sure I'm more excited to finally have Jenkins integration at my work than I was for my birthday this year. No more manual builds!3
-
Google's new Material design, with more curvy elements with broad borders, woth cocky font ...... is UGLY as FUCK
12 year kid at work10 -
I can get a lot more done working in Starbucks, than from my own desk at work or home. Wonder if anyone else is the same way5
-
Ah, another day, another regression found in a major library
guess i work for all these companies as a volunteer
🤦♂️
good thing i'm no where near their 6 figure salaries either.
maybe i should get that 6 figure salary and then eat more salads and steaks at the free food court, type more shitty code on couches, and play more foosball during my approximate 4 hour work day to acheive their software levels
if only i was so good2 -
How do you guys prevent yourself from overworking? With deadline pressures I feel like it is very easy to work more than your regular 8 hours20
-
Best moment when u receive payment for the work and the amount is more than expected..
U start wondering:
1. Is it bymistake
2. Is he appreciating ur efforts
3. Is it because the payment was delayed last time..
Or maybe because he wants to give u much more work which is very urgent!! -
Only think I like more than coding is roller derby. Live streaming a game while I work on my own derby scoreboard.4
-
Interviewer: Here's a marker, diagram how you would implement a time management system to track user work.
Me: [draws out complex system to track user work via heartbeat]
Interviewer: God, no.. something more simple like a time clock.
[sigh] -
When you change one line of your source code and all of the rest of code don't work any more. Fucking Shit!2
-
Anyone else feel this 50/50 male/female work melarky is just silly. Most programmers are men. It shouldn't be more complex then that. Most beautitions are women. Nothing wrong with work being gender dominated... imo20
-
Took some leave recently to interview for a new job. Back to work to find that I have nothing to do. Asked for more work and got nothing. This place just gives me constant reminders of why I'm looking elsewhere4
-
If I had to name one attribute that dominates the software engineering ecosystem, it would be “arrogance” especially among young programmers. I think software engineering would be a much better place to work if people were more empathetic than being ginormous assholes trying to have a leg up over all their peers. Collaboration is much more rewarding than competition. It feeds your soul and feels a lot more natural.
Collaboration over Competition.
Have a peaceful day at work guys!5 -
I think it's funny when RH people email me offering positions to work with Java and that's it, no more details. Java can be used to build virtually anything, from web apps to systems for spaceships. Can they give more details?!3
-
Management: "Let's hire some folks and expand the team in this region. And then we will think about what they will exactly do. And then get more work or create more work with our own vision"
Hired developers *mind*: "Why the fuck is this small work done by such a big team? Why the fuck is this work done by a my team (different team) and not by the same team that built the product? Oh, they don't have bandwidth? They want to parallelize? And all decisions still have to go through the product team? They have months of experience and context? Right"2 -
when you confirm with a friend that 2 different members of their team who left didn't contribute shit (one of which got into a meeting with management with them telling them to work) , but they also made more money than both of you and are now making more money in more successful companies in more senior roles
is it possible to learn this power /palpatine1 -
Only one goal : earn more money.
- Not to work for friendship, equity, kindness, craziness, etc. Code more for sole purpose to earn more
- Accept more projects whether I can develop or not to earn more
- Learn to manage and work with freelancers and agencies to earn more
- Work for anyone and any type of project suitable for my knowledge as long as the offer is good to earn more
Etc. You got the gist.
My language for 2020 is money :3
(well I'm trying to, anyway)1 -
Finally no more xcode at work :D
But now I have to work with React Native, still a better thing to work with than Ionic 1 + Angular .-.6 -
# work on an open source project
# build an awesome pwa
# less frontend, more backend
# learn GoLang
# find or build more alternatives to Google services, Facebook etc.2 -
I just love how companies would go to any length to motivate you to work more!
As long as it doesn't cost them more than peanuts..13 -
Oh man. When I look for a job after I'm done with school, I need to watch out for those "pay-per-line" bullshit contracts. More lines? Everyone can do that, but it will cause inefficiency just for the money. I could make a fucking Python Hello World program have 100 needed lines if I wanted to, but why would I? More lines = more typing ≠ more work.3
-
Set some dev goals..
TLDR: spend less time at work coding
No, really..for what I do at work, I am happy. Would like to learn more recent stuff (partially stuck with vb.net), but I don't even know where to start googling.. sooo... get more free time I guess to figure this out..which is a dev goal on it's own too, come to think of it, this translates as don't spend so much time at work coding.. and spend some of it learning new (dev related) things outside of work..new/different js frameworks, python (been fixing/adding some code here & there, but never learned it properly & to check it's full potential, I heard it is awesome btw), read up on algorithm time costs (learn how to fuckin spell this!!)...
And kinda dev related as I will have to spend less time at work is to get back in 'sort of' shape and climb (more)..and spend more quality time with my husband, who is too good, totally supports me & my work, so I never get to hear him nag I was working late, which leads to 'stop working so long' goal I rly need to get in order or I'll burn out again, and I'm bitchy and horrible whe BO..and we don't wanna see that again..
Sum up: work less, learn new things, climb more, be happy/content.1 -
I'm on hourly rate and there are no more overtime for us in my company.
It's overtime if I work more than 40 hours a week. I guess I am off at 16:00 even if our servers are burning. How did you month go?1 -
Work so hard that you're too mentally exhausted to even think about how your life could be better or more enjoyable.2
-
2019 goals...
Launch my app in Play store
Build more projects
Make work fun for client
Earn more
Learn learn and learn.... -
I'm working on a Web API for retrieving informarion of some sort (can't speak as it is a work in progress😝).
Before starting to work on this project all the experience I had was Desktop (C#, VB) and some SQL but now I'm learning so much more: REST, Asp.net core, nosql, GraphQL and more.
Even if I can't finish this project, still what I'm learning is even more valuable2 -
Today marked my first year of full time development work. I am really grateful to my workplace for giving me this opportunity instead of wasting away in education for 4+ more years. I've learnt so much already and can't wait for more 😁3
-
Is anyone facing micromanagement due to work from home? The calls are happening every hour and feeling more like prisoned, Go corona go!!5
-
Everyone I know chilling and shit.
As a developer and having the ability to work from home I am being pushed more than usual and I think it is because of no commute time I am working more now a days.5 -
Decided to try out the new windows terminal app... It may be in preview but oh boy it needs work...
And not just a little work but A LOT of work, I've used prototypes that are more functional :-/4 -
the problem of being slightly competent is that they'll give you more and more work others aren't doing. sucks to be the one carrying the party irl2
-
Work has become my life and much like others the lines of reality and the machine are blurring more and more
-
I'm sure I speak for a lot of us when I say: LET ME HAVE A LIFE!!!
Management treating us like candy machines, wanting more and more features, learn this, learn that, learn complex material. HEY I'D LIKE TO ENJOY MY TIME AFTER WORK YA KNOW.
etc.4 -
Quality != more work + less talk
Quality = more talk resulting in less work.
That makes no sense mathematically.
“Let’s talk more about shit before we create shit”.
That’s a little better.
“Let’s talk more so we don’t create shit”.
Getting closer.
“Let’s talk more about what is needed till we all know what is best before we program a damn machine?”
...This is going nowhere fast.
Okay fuck it. Let’s just code some stuff. It’s more enjoyable.7 -
Pissed off as fuck. The more I explain to people that they have to provide at least one piece of evidence in order to analyze the problem, the more they end up saying "the app doesn't work".3
-
Amazon drivers are hanging smartphones in trees to get more work.
Technology at it’s best.
https://bloomberg.com/news/...3 -
The Online Marketers I work with sometimes ask how I know so much about certain things.
Well, while you guys were partying in your late teens/early 20s and playing sports with your friends, I was sitting home on nights and weekends learning about computers, networks and code.
It only sucks they make a shit ton more money than me and work about 4 hours a day.
At least I'm making more than most of my peers and probably 90% more than people I went to high school with.2 -
Life is so much more fun when electricity is cut off and you still need to get day's worth of work done from home5
-
Friday: Expectations vs Reality
Expectation: Work on work for half the day then work on side projects for the rest of the day. Consider it a good day.
Reality: Work on work for whole day. Then have your boss set the expectation to have a project completed by Monday morning that you know will take 3 more days. Hence making you work the weekend to try to get it done in time. -.-4 -

Thinking about quitting college more and more.
Not because it's hard, but because I can't bear with it anymore. I had a 3 day break and I noticed I didn't want to just disappear anymore.
What will I if I quit? Work. Try to find work in something electronics or programming related. I know my chances are slimmer than someone who did finish, but I can't...
I dunno3 -
How good was you saying that the backup function was? Maybe I should remember saving my work more often ...2
-
I fear that in the future there will only be 2 possibilities as software developer
either work for pennies out of passion while others profit off your work as more and more open source developers do
or work in a dipshit heavy environment with soul-less automatons who look only to maximize a column or another in a spreadsheet until they are ready to retire and die6 -
So many people ranting about devRant needing to be more secret when at work?
I've got a solution coming up somewhere in the next 4 hours.7 -
Starting my day with 15 emails that I urgently need to respond to. I hate Thursdays. It's just meetings and emails and more meetings and more emails. No time to get work done.2
-
I finish at my current role on Thursday
Really can't be bothered to create more work for myself.
I'm basically doing the occasional work and browsing DevRant :) -
Since this daily schedule stuff is catching on, here's my day!
- Wake up
- Work
- Eat breakfast
-Work
- Eat lunch
- Brush Teeth/floss
- Shower
- Work
- School (part time graduate school)
- Sleep
- Repeat
- Hate life for 2 more years5 -
Was going to work on learning more about creating APIs in ASP. Net core today. Instead playing video games with my son. Much more fun!
-
If there's something that makes me want to shoot myself even more than having to work with python, it's python's package management.7

Got branches:
+ More organised
+ Easier to work on lots of features
+ Easier to collaborate
- Commits don’t show in github contributions
Result: no branches1 -
I feel a little bit lonely when reading all the rants about Windows 😞 Are there more people like me who really can't work with macs but love Windows pc's? I mean, they are fast too, and customizable, and fancy, and work almost always.16
-
Me: "You should go with this other option for the software. It's cheaper and you can do more."
Client: "No. This more expensive and less-capable thing I chose is better. We'll make it work."
[several weeks pass]
Client: "This isn't working. Why didn't it work?"
Me: "You have to upgrade to a more expensive plan, or switch to the other solution I told you about."
Client: "No. We'll make it work."
Me: *facepalm*3 -
My boss tried to make me work at holiday (there's no work till 5th of Jan). I laughed at the proposal more than I should, then he understood what I meant and didn't say anything 😄
-
When your job gets unnecessarily difficult because too many people work on the same files, and then they ignore your changes in version control. I waste more time redoing work that was already done and ignored . . .1
-
If you have no moral compass and only want money, don’t work for Facebook. Work for ISIS. It will get you much more.
Otherwise, look for a decent company.14 -
All the projects where you are doing an awsome design and code work and then the client wants pizza pictures... more pizza pictures everywhere... and then he wants more of them again.
Bottom Line - When you have to build bullshit sites2 -
I just work without thinking about whether I want to do it or not. The more you think about it, the more you don't want to do it. Just get to it.
-
When 30 minutes of commuting to work are more valuable.... (me when am almost cracking the cause of the bug)1

does anyone know where i can find fresh android tutorials ?
since all i found are old from 2014 and they no more work properly7 -
Class components, although verbose at times, are still far superior than functional components in React. The more I work with React, the more I believe that: Hooks are plain shit.
-
*writes function*
*doesn't work*
*adds more shit to function*

Jesus christ google hurry up and finish work on crostini!
Seem's like every day there is some new news about its development's and im just getting more and more excited! -

I usually don't get attached to the company I work for. Rather I'm more attached to the work what I do.
But I don't know what happened to me today! When I resigned from my company, somewhere deep down, I felt bad! 😥4 -
Today's a good day. Just replaced my old MacBook pro from 2012 with the newest one. Can't wait to work again with more horse power on the machine!5

Rookie develops who think they are so
much more knowledgeable thank you, yet don’t stop asking the simplest of questions, preventing you from doing your work.3 -
Something that irks me is the misinformation that the DOGE proof of work is less complex and more energy saving than the BTC proof of work.
BTC: SHA-256
DOGE: SCRYPT (SHA-256 + Some additional steps and higher memory consumption)11 -

Good Morning! (it's morning here in my area) My coworker gave a good word today "Don't work for an arsehole until forgot to work for yourself" and "Working for a company who under appreciate you is like having sex with a zombie , the more you remain inside, the more part of your penis disappear"
hahahahaaha and today is his last day..6 -
I need to build a dynamic regular expression with matching 0 or more char, but \w doesn’t work.
new RegExp(‘^\/\w*#’ + route, ‘i’)
Any solution? 🥺14 -
dear Android devs, how many of you work in a Team of more Android devs? And are you more productive in a Team than being solo ?12
-
1. Extend my infosec knowledge further and try getting more work in that area (and less as a dev).
2. Specialize more, dabble less.
3. Learn more !dev skills (military/political history mostly) -
The more I work on the backend forms validation side of my .NET Core project the more I understand how to fuck up web forms in general... 😈
Never underestimate the necessity of a backend validation other then the frontend one. 👿4 -
Given a set of projects, twice the amount of work half the amount of time to do them in. We told management we need more time and more developers. Products are being given to the clients with lots of bugs. Management's response: double the QA team size... We almost have more QA members than Dev members. FFS.

I honestly love arguments that deal with programming and the "proper" ways to do things in the workplace. It makes work slightly more enjoyable lol.1
-
How pervasive is underestimating project/sprint work to land contracts and expecting devs to make it work in time?
How often are you expected to work more than 8?2 -
I work in physical sciences, and while a lot of my colleagues hiss and scream at programming and continue bench lab work. I have more freedom, creativity, and financial support for my computational research. So, for that, I'm thankful.

Maintaining a good mood, listening to Avicii and electro house music the whole time at work.
It works so far, no more Kendrick Lamar or NF. -

This “only one more rant“ feeling when you have to sleep because you have to get up and work tomorrow very early.
Please send help.1 -
The scrum master cries out for the team’s burndown chart as he move more unplanned work into the current Sprint.1

The fact that I am forced to use xCode more and more again, really gets me. I miss vsCode (especially monokai pro) a lot already, but the phonegap developer app simply doesn't work with things like touchid to preview the app.
-
I'm excited about flutter, looks like it will make cross platform mobile dev more fun.
Also dx12 rtx real time raytracing. It would be cool to work on it at work. We do animations for short movies at work and render times are huge now.
I'm kinda suspicious for both though. Couldn't check it out yet.1 -
It's more annoying for me when my code works and I don't know why (when actually it has not work) than when my code doesn't work and I don't know why.2
-
When you have no more tickets on your plate for a sprint, do you usually ask for more tickets, or do you wait to get assigned more tickets?
I'm the new guy, and don't want to work too fast, but also don't want to work too slow.5 -
Just any of them really. I'm great at starting side projects, but the "work more" thing is constantly an issue
-
I have nothing to do today. I could go Jack off in the bathroom for 3 hours, then go home and my boss would be proud of my hard work. He told me to leave him alone because he is busy today after I went back 10 time for more tasks. We don't use any issue tracker or anything, and I already commented all the code I have access to(microservices means it is all developed in small stand alone parts and I can only see mine. No repo....). But I get in chewed out if I seem unbusy!!!1

When co-workers act like you have no work to do. So they try to give you more stuff.
Fuck. This. Shit.1 -
I never understood why there are screenshots of commits being like test, test2, does it work now? or WORK YOU SHIT..
..until i tried to gitignore stuff a bit more specific while gitkeeping folders and deploying shit relying on CORS.😂2 -
I’m a junior developer on a very small team (4 devs total including me and the manager).
Because we are so small, we work in silos. We individually work on issues and rarely work together.
There is a more senior dev that I really would like to work more with. I feel there is a lot to learn from him because he has the experience and skill sets that I would like.
What’s the best way to work with him more? Should I just ask him? Or is it better to find a more indirect way?7 -
you know that feel when you're in one or two weeks of vacation and one day, you look into the mirror and you notice you look like 5 years younger and also you're able to actually enjoy things in life and try out new things, and you wonder, what am i doing with my life...2

3 hours in to work and I've already wished Java had two more features: native tuples and partial application in method references.5

Company has hybrid work policy. My coworkers go remote twice a week. I have never gone remote for more than 10 days for the whole year.
However, I just went for remote today and seniors keeps asking me why did I go remote? Even guilt tripping me.
I guess I put it on myself for not taking more remote days but it’s just annoying that they will make you feel that you’re pretending to work even you do actual work from home.
Just venting today.7 -
So the work from home is going like, I'm coding in dreams too. It's been more than 3 days, I have successfully completed more than one module😂
I guess it is happening with everyone. -
I'm more excited for my devRant dual monitor setup than my work one. I see I still got my priorities in order 🥴

Going to work more exhausted the monday morning than I was on friday evening is a REAL. FUCKING. PLEASURE.

Last year we had a meeting to discuss lessening the frequency of meetings and let people work more of the day. After a three hours, it was decided that nothing was getting solved, resulting in three more meetings to be added to the calendar to follow up.

What are some bulletproof linux distros, I'm tired of semi-stable distros that need more attention than the work that I'm trying to do on them.7

Create your own deadlines.
With your deadline, you work more hard and if you end early, you get that free time (or you have time for emergencies).1 -
When you get more managerial corrections on your projects and approaches to things than your coworkers do BECAUSE YOUR WORK IS SO MUCH HARDER AND MORE TECHNICAL THAN EVERYONE ELSE’S but you still end up looking dumb because you’re the only one being corrected on stuff.
-
Shit my "Senior" Dev coworker days:
"Well, logically, lies are more important because it takes more effort to remember the lie, who you've told it to, and any extra stuff you made up to keep your story straight. Then, when you have more than one lie, you work even harder to keep them all in line".1 -
Is there a minimum amount of months I need to work for a company I'm fed up with so it doesn't look too bad on my resume when I finally quit?
I swear I keep thinking of quitting more and more every passing week.4 -
more like a combination with browser incompatibility. i designed a neat webapp with transitions and stuff only to find it didn't work in the desired browser.3

It's pretty hard to work with relatives in the family. They expect too much from you. More overtime work, no or less pay, demands are somewhat unrealistic because they want their project on top priority and the list goes on. 🤔1

Just migrated my custom help desk software for work to cockroachdb! Scalability here I come fucking come! And no more fucking MySQL Master Master configs to deal with.

What tool/process/concept saves you the most time in your day-to-day work? I'm looking for things I could integrate into my own work that would make me or my team more efficient1

It doesn't work. Wait, it might be this. Yay, wait.... it doesn't work. Who cares, people won't notice. I'll fix it later. 1 year later, maybe later. 1 more year, maybe later.4

I'd like to work for a small software house that pays decent, understands a life/work balance (40hr/wk), has a relaxed environment, worries more about the end product than timelines, and gives you Fridays to work on pet projects and training.

I don't know if I'd quite say it's MY specialty yet but the company I work for specializes in automation. I'm technically a support/DevOps person atm but they've got me heading more more back into dev work (which is good)

I don't understand why the fuck it takes me more than a day to fucking make an svg work dynamically with its background and it still doesn't work for fuck sake

you presented your idea to the PM then thinks it's good then suddenly disagrees then gives you more work load... oh well1

Work on it every day for max 30 minutes or something, instead of waiting for a day were I have more time.

What is a stupid technology that is supposed to save you work that actually causes you more work?19

Is it possible to sort collabs by the most popular? It would be cool if there was an indicator of how many people want to work on a collab as well, or even indicators showing the project is shipped and is available.2

Keep your search relatively broad, but find a company that you'd actually like to work at if you can. This would make interviews more smooth because you actually want to work there, and it'll keep your morale high.

The more I work with Java, the more I recognize how C# copies Java and yet doesn't admit themselves so. Real hypocrites. F@ck C#.5

When signing and completing the contract for a freelance gig requires much more effort then the actual work/code involved. Sorry I mean “independent contractor agreement”. 🙈

atleast I will nt feel alone any more because of a crapy siri and all time fear of crashing the machine will keep me focused on work more

So I'm free again. Started a new job in November and then last week they said it wasn't working out. They like me but need someone "more senior". Good luck finding someone more senior who is willing to work on jps and glassfish 2 in 20204

The more you good and quick at your work, the more feedback points/improvements you get.
Seriously fuck those last minute changes! -
Some 80s and 90s books. And the more the time goes by the more I lean towards FP and stateless systems...
On the syntactic side I love the work of Kevlin Henney. For me it's all about readability. So a lot of choices are based on that. -
My top goal is work more on my project https://github.com/RiderExMachina/... and get it up and going.
-
I LOL at those pictures of ppl that work from home at the beach 😂. Thats bullshit, no programmer could ever work like this with no ergonomics and a laptop on the lap for more than an hour.
-
Getting an exclamatory thumbs-up up from your PM hits differently. ☺️😊
So motivated to work more amid limitations.💪🏾2 -
Well once someone tell you please give more effort at work and you provide your maximum then he finds it not enough.
I guess it will be more than fair to leave without any discussion.3 -
When sharing your nomination for a webby becomes more important than your actual software development work mh.tl/vote1

Taking work-related tasks as personal challenges and conquering them has worked well for me so far.
Increases the level of contempt you get from work and also makes working so much more fun. -
Decided I didn't want to work my job in operations any more, learnt Javascript in 6 weeks the approached the head of development. Still learning now ;)1
-
I always work too much in bursts. Long days of intense work when I’m deep into something, skipping lunch and breaks. Then short days when I take it easy. Would probably be better to work more evenly.3

I kinda having feelings for this RPA girl at work . I dont wanna make myself more derpessed than i am right now. We talked like i talked about work stuffs. just before leaving work for the first time. What is up ? wth going on .10

Dealing with work hangover.
I'm in a state of lull and daze and don't know what to do next.
Y'all got any suggestions?4 -
By experimenting. By trying to integrate different tech and seeing how things work out.
If something doesn’t work out, you know the problems, if something does work out you have one more way of solving some problems.
(Also by freelancing, adding these successful experimentations into a shippable product and adding it to yoir portfolio) -
App for hitchhiking: map for places(with clustering) is almost ready. Other features like offline work, routes and more are on the way!1

So basically, At work, we are starting to get bigger, more devs, more ppl, but we are starting to get QA, and PM, and Im starting to hate it4
-
If you got the chance.
Always improve your iteration times!
The faster you can go from change to result. more things could get done.
And more time is left to work on other tasks that always get pushed away.2 -
Hey,
I've been wanting to take on some freelance work in my free time. As I have a lot of free time.
So does anyone know a site more geared towards amateur to intermideate dev's who want to gain experience and are willing to work at lower rates because of that ? Or any site where i can just hop on and find some work. I've been suggested upwork but that seems to be more for more experienced devs.4 -
We learn more with blockers and errors.
I do learn more by doing each day rather than a tutorial/doc.
PS:There need to be a basic idea about the env we are working but It'snt mostly effective/practical to learn everything and work or implement in that.1 -
When you are going to college and do more work and research on your own with Google then what was taught in class.4

I guess the whole "can work from anywhere!" mantra doesn't apply to those looking at junior positions. I wonder how the industry will handle the lack of new hires coming through as more and more seniors demand WFH accommodations.3

Frick frack facks! I can't get my efing method to work well! **fck it I'm going dota2 to get even more frustrated**

You know I find there being disembodied scans of documents seems like it would create more work than if a clerk just got off their fat ass did a scan per job and they hired more clerks.lol
-
Ok so a company from a neighboring country contacted me for a remote job opportunity... the offer was quite good
Now I'm working more on his project even at work than my work project -
Do you consider helping a colleague with more experience than you as a wating time in your own work ? Some manager told me I should focus on my work...1
-
Finding myself with more and more time where I'm not engaged in conversation or listening to an actual person. What are the best dev-related podcasts to listen to whilst I work/code?1

Office Politics
I suppose I become a victim of office politics. I was working on new project and one more new project having e-commerce aspects was in queue. But my ex-manager went to the boss and asked him to assign me to her :( No more chance to work on e-commerce :( again have to work some geo-location services. Feel like fu*ked up ..2
