Me: *updating Ubuntu using terminal*
Non-tech friend:
*looks at my terminal*
WOW! You must me real good at hacking and stuff!
Me: Of course i am, but keep it a secret though.4 -
Finally removed elementary OS. (Random crashed and everything) and installed Ubuntu 18.04. It looks great.24
-
Not sure what hapend... On my laptop running Ubuntu 17.10, I just got a notification:
Problem occured: "Ubuntu is ready"
Not sure what to do now... :P8 -
Brace for Ubuntu 17.10 release coming tomorrow. Bye bye my old friend Ubuntu Gnome and hello vanilla Ubuntu
PS: don't hate for liking Ubuntu, at least I'm on Linux, cmon 😄20 -
"I think I need to reinstall my python on ubuntu"
* proceeds to remove python
* ubuntu breaks
* tries to fix ubuntu
* ubuntu no longer goes to desktop
* cries
* tries not to cry
* cries a lot
Yeah moral of the story is never uninstall python (at least for ubuntu, idk other linux distros)16 -
I almost did rm -rf / as root on my computer, but Ubuntu actually stopped me from doing it, even as root, saying it was too dangerous. Props, Ubuntu. You saved my hard drive.9
-
My friend once told me an incident.
One day he was using Ubuntu and his 10 years old niece, who was only familiar with Windows, saw him using terminal.
She then said this, in an amused tone:
Oh my god Ubuntu is really smart. In Windows I have to point to things to make it understand. But here we can talk to the computer and it obeys?
I think she's right !! :)
Linux is like black hole. Once in, never out !!3 -
Me: wow in really starting to love arch Linux, feels good to be away from Ubuntu!
Ubuntu: Yo! 18.04 is here!
Also me:2 -
Old boy said to put my brother's old laptop to use for him because Windows is too slow. He just wants basic usage like news and checking his favorite sites. So, you know there's only one way to take care of this...install Ubuntu. He tried it, loved and now doing full install for him. Ubuntu saving old computers since..well since forever 😁7
-
So I've decided to try and switch my complete development environment to Ubuntu from Windows. I've used Ubuntu before but just for general use. Excited :D
Any essentials or anything to get?33 -
Installing Ubuntu in VMWare. After the installation, proceeded to install VMWare tools to get the full resolution.
Shitloads of errors. Kernel build failing, gcc exiting with error code other than 0, all the copying failed. At the end of the process the executable says:
Enjoy,
---The VMWare Team
What the fuck am supposed to enjoy? My broken fucking Ubuntu in a VM?5 -
Been using Ubuntu for only like two months now but yesterday I discovered GNOME. So much better than Unity.
My reaction when I installed it:14 -
I've installed Ubuntu for her something like 2 years ago, because her Windows installation was fucked up. After that 2 years she aksed me to install her new computer and copy the personal documents from her old computer.
So I backed up all her personal stuff like photo's and so on and asked her if she would like me to install Ubuntu again. Then she said that she would love to get Ubuntu again, because it was much cleaner and easier than Windows 😁.
So, from now on, my mom is using Ubuntu instead of Windows. That makes me really proud of her.3 -
Wasted whole day installing Ubuntu and get it to work on my laptop 😥
Now going back on Windows...36 -
I thought there was something wrong with my Ubuntu 16.04.
Whenever I pressed '|'
'~' used to appear.
I totally gave up until I realised I mistakenly chose the UK Keyboard.
Ugh.3 -
Finally installed Ubuntu and successfully configured the wifi setting, any package I should install?29

Just switched my girlfriend's laptop from Ubuntu 16.04 to Arch. Every single glitch and issue we were having is gone. She's even got some buttery smooth Wayland going.13
-
Ubuntu GNOME 17.04. with some customization looks like I will settle for this as my preferred Linux Distro.4
-
Well something happened to my Ubuntu and suddenly.... <poof> it supports my Nvidia GPU now </poof>16
-
Did you know?
Ubuntu 16.04 can't build ROS.
Fsck!
I look retarded running a VM of Ubuntu 14 in Ubuntu 165 -
What I've learned so far in Ubuntu
1. Never mess with root directory
2. Never mess with scary command
3. Never install additional DEs
4. Never close terminal while something is going on
Or you have to install Ubuntu again
Although I love Ubuntu7 -
I switched to using Ubuntu as my primary development environment about a month ago from Windows and I couldn't be happier! The initial setup was a pain in the neck (esp. display scaling issues, which Windows 10 is much better at than Ubuntu), but now that it's all set up, I'm lovin' it!6
-
Mint can't find correct driver for Intel NUC.
The download page for linux Intel graphic driver update tool project was closed.
Asked what's happened on Ubuntu stack exchange, got immediately closed, because of off topic: mint is not Ubuntu...🤦♂️
My solution is to uninstall mint, and install Ubuntu...
Still the same driver issue, but at least I could ask...
God damn it.25 -
Finally switched from Ubuntu to Arch. Wish me luck.
Finally switched from Ubuntu to Mac. Wish me luck.
Similar sentences, very different feelings!5 -
Installing Windows after Ubuntu is not the recommended process for a dual boot Windows and Ubuntu system, but it is possible. 😂6

I am using a 2012 MacBook pro now, but I am thinking about switching to Linux (Ubuntu) or Windows before university. What do you recommend?39
-
I just realised that I've been experiencing a lot of stress and frustration over the last couple of months. I also realised that these feelings of dread and existential anxiety stem from my heavy use of Ubuntu. So I ended another agonizing 3 hours of trying-to-get-internet-access-again-so-I-can-get-some-fucking-work-done and managed to blow off some steam without causing too much property damage. Then I sat down and thought about it. And you know what? I hate Ubuntu.
With Window$ I can at least get some work done without having to write my own network drivers because the current ones do not function when the day of month is a prime number or some shit.15 -
Wanted a quiet day at work this Monday so updated my development laptop to Ubuntu 16.04. Ended up spending the whole day fixing it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯5
-
This how My Ubuntu desktop look's, where the wallpaper is of the project we(team snappy Robotics) did.5
-
Just spent like 2 hours theming my Ubuntu 17.10 development VM, but lets be honest, the suru icon back with a unity8 gnome theme does look really fucking good!6
-
So I decided to let the Ubuntu on an NVIDIA Jetson update itself to 16.04...Immediately get a message saying the USB driver is broken.
Yaaaay2 -
Step 1: Download archlinux.iso
Step 2: realise your worthlessness
Step 3: Newborn awe for arch users.
Step 4: Ubuntu????
Just kidding though. Not giving up till system breaks atleast 7 times..😑7 -
Just a package machine into which you'd put the number of your package then get it. Apparently it runs Ubuntu and it's not set to start automatically. Damn part of me wanna connect a keyboard and find out what it has to offer.9
-
I finally got to updating my old laptop when I saw a post about Ubuntu 18.04 being released. What do you guys think of it?8
-
I am getting so addicted to Ubuntu 😍.
Once you get used to the terminal workstyle, you never go back to Windows!7 -
I've had my stickers for a while but finally decided to put them in my new Chromebook... and yes, that's Ubuntu!9
-
You never know what you have till you lose it, I learned this after I launched my Ubuntu and I found my cursor to be absent :p
-
Im trying to find a Linux home!
Been using Ubuntu for about a year now for schoolwork and before i was on arch Linux.
Just wanted to hear from devrant what distro is your favorit?31 -
Really? Is this the Ubuntu Unity logo? Tech journalists honestly, if you want to write about new tech things write properly with proper information and relevant images. No dev will read that article if you do this kind of blunder.4
-
I am just so thankful to Ubuntu for providing the minimal installation option. These small changes really makes the OS more friendly :)3
-
OK, I've been using Ubuntu Linux for 5 years now, and I had to leave a Dell Linux for Mac today in Office.
Am I the only one who thinks Mac OS sucks!
Fine they have the best hardware, but Mac OS is slightly disappointing.13 -
Just installed Ubuntu on a friends laptop because of my advice. I haven't spoke with him since and he was online on whatsapl tomorrow.
You guys think he got hooked? 😄5 -
Ubuntu 18.04 will be sending basic telemetry to Canonical by default. Great for people like me who have to use Linux for work and want a better UX. 😀8
-
I've been using Ubuntu 14.04 since it was first released until this moment (June 2018). What a stable OS i've ever used. Thank's Linux, you're free & awesome.
Thank Mr. Trusty & Tahr1 -
Google has its own Linux Distribution for its internal Employees. Its called Goobuntu.
Goobuntu is based on the normal Ubuntu versions, but is used by internal employees of Google. Its not currently available for general public.7 -
Why does Ubuntu get so much hate on here?
Is it because people believe it doesn’t act according to the spirit of the Linux community (whatever that is) or are their technical reasons?16 -
alias break-ubuntu="do-release-upgrade"
# Only works if new distro is available, otherwise you have to find another way to break ubuntu -
Lotta Ubuntu hate on devRant today ...
Funnily enough, Wappalyzer tells me devRant runs on Ubuntu.
And anyway, Ubuntu is a good operating system. It's not my first choice, but it works well as a gateway drug to Linux. I have it running on a couple EC2s because its the simplest to provision and set up.
Ubuntu is good, save your hate for Windows and particularly MacOS20 -
They just announced Ubuntu 18.04, that will be called "bionic beaver" (i wish i could adopt one of these)
But what scared me the most is that for this website, the #1 feature worth being announced is that the OS will fully support color emojis.
Can't wait for Ubuntu 18.10, Cancerous Crap.

Hello, I am new to DevRant!
I was fed up with Windows 10(broken search, start menu etc), hence I installed Ubuntu on one of my PC's.
Now the issue is that my Ubuntu System boots very slowly!
I have a Docker Container + Some apps in startup! It used to boot up very quickly IDK after a week of use it has gotten considerably slower!
Pls Halp!17 -
I've installed Ubuntu a million times before, but never had it hang here for 20 minutes, anyone else ever experienced it? :-/
Don't want to hard reset the PC while the USB is being used11 -
Windows 10 has the same pros and cons of Ubuntu:
• New version every six months ( 2 GB each time);
• Naming of the version based on year and month (1703, 1709);
• Both shell understand mkdir and ls.4 -
UBUNTU 16.04 VS ELEMENTARY OS
I'm Currently running Ubuntu 16.04 for all things dev related, is it worth the time to switch to elementary OS?
Or is there any other distro you would suggest me to switch to?17 -
Ubuntu NHS
Maybe, we could finally see Linux in a non-technical environment!
What do you think about this?8 -
Finally making the jump from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04.
Forced to upgrade to 15.10 first, because reasons. -
So I have a dual boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu 16.04.
This evening, I finally decided to update Ubuntu to 17.10.
Note to self, never try to install Ubuntu from the live usb when trying the "demo", prefer to install on boot, because this fucker encountered an error, forced me to reboot then decided to occupy the whole disk and wipe Windows out.
I'm sure that Ubuntu 17.10 was made by DevRant, that's totally something you guys could do 😂5 -
I am constantly typing "ls" on CMD to a point it has become quite annoying. I'm so used to my Ubuntu.6
-
Yesterday I successfully converted my normie friend to linux. I installed Ubuntu on his machine and he loves it so far.1

Today i just decided to move to ubuntu 17.04 from windows 10, is it hard to get project done fast with ubuntu? I need some thought, because windows really pissed me off from the lagging retard.15

No better way to start a work day than ubuntu randomly deciding that it can't connect to a wired connetion that worked yesterday and works perfectly on windows....3
-
So I was digging our chat logs in 2017
That time we were coming up of alliterative code name (Ubuntu-like)...

Using M$ Teams on Ubuntu is a painful experience. Feel like setting up a VM just to run Teams the way I want to it run.6

Daily wtf:
Got my new bt headphones. Went to work and plugged my bt stick in the PC. Paired them and double clicked on volume control. Each time i clicked ubuntu froze for 30 sec.4 -
I said I wanted Ubuntu, and I got Ubuntu 18.04
Why you might ask? Because the older LTS has features that have had more time for bugs to be fixed.7 -
I want to dual boot my win10 PC with Linux, but I can't decide if I want Debian 8 or Ubuntu. What do you guys think?27
-
I don't know what happened with my Ubuntu 16.04.
And Now I'm bored by Typing
fsck -y /dev/sda1
on boot
😥😥4 -
Upgraded to Ubuntu 17.04 and now Ubuntu freezes at login screen. It's been more than 3 hours and 0 progress.4
-
Today, i set up my first pure-Arch environment and I can say,
It's freaking awesome.
Sure, its more difficult to use than Ubuntu, but damn, its really just the system I want.3 -
What IDE to use on Ubuntu?
Hey guys, just recently started getting into Ubuntu & Linux, and I need some recommendations for a good IDE (or just an editor). I want to program C, C++ as main priorities, but want an IDE that isn't locked to only one language :) Been looking at Sublime Text, and while it looks cool and easy to use, I'd prefer something that didn't require a license..
Hope you guys can help out, any help is appreciated :)20 -
I've been using ubuntu for more than 2 years now and would like to know why arch is so popular. What advantages does it have over other popular distros?5
-
Make the ubuntu upgrade to 18.04 and it takes forever to finish
It also updates new version of i3, I hereby gets this shit 🤦🏻♂️3 -
Regarding my previous rant where I shit talked about ubuntu 17.10
So instead of downgrading I tried a last chance (why not, system was fucked already) by installing unity, yes the same shit that ubuntu team removed from ubuntu 17.10 as major upgrade.
Well, it turns out gnome shell was taking more than half of my cpu in idle state and this unity barely reaches above 10%
Life lesson learnt: not every upgrade is better
Same goes for android studio, let's save it for another rant10 -
My Ubuntu VM just work fine for consecutive 217 days without restarting.
Need to change some config
And... I forgot the application access key... Damnit!!!
Lucky, I kept the access key in the password manager. Whew.5 -
So php7 deprecated all support for mysql none of my previous projects are working on localhost. Moreover,Ubuntu removed the php5 package from it's latest version . FML.17
-
My Mac SSD got fried, so started setting up Ubuntu 16.04 on another system for the time being. Who the fuck says just Windows has problems!! Ubuntu can be, and most of the times is a fuckin nightmare!! And its a fuckin LTS release, for fuck's sake!! 😣8
-
my workstation, can't imagine to work without it,
waiting for dev rant stickers even left some space for them
Proudly running Ubuntu Gnome 16.043 -
Installing Ubuntu on an old box of mine. May run well after all. Gonna make some experiments with Ruby and Python3
-
Mistakenly executed 'sudo chmod 0 /usr/bin/sudo' on computer lab's Ubuntu 12.04 system.
Now each time I type sudo, permission is being denied. FML.5 -
Installed Ubuntu 18.04. Loved the minimal installation feature. Reduces installation time and the time you spend removing everything unnecessary
-
I am using Ubuntu for two years now, for me it is faster than windows. To have more speed what’s next!?6
-
"Yeah sir I got the logo. Yeah sir it's totally original and I didn't just added a little curve to the Ubuntu logo"

I have dual boot windows 10 and Ubuntu but some time when I using Ubuntu writing permission is not allowed on NTFS disk and some time it does Why???2
-
My computer froze during Ubuntu update. I had to turn it off, and instalation did not finish, now Ubuntu won't start.. great..4
-
I'm proof that deadlines motivate. Ruined the grub2 installation on my Ubuntu install and told myself I'd have it fixed in an hour or less. It's fixed now with 3 minutes to go 😅1
-
Thoughts on Manjaro? I'm thinking about switching from Ubuntu to Manjaro since I feel like I'm not much of a newbie to Linux as I used to be and Ubuntu consumes more resources than I expected (been using Ubuntu as my main OS for the last 4 months)10
-
can you recommend any ubuntu software which would allow me setup notes on the screen?
microsoft sticky notes for windows has been very useful for me in windows env, but couldn't find an alternative for ubuntu.
A browser plugin, which could turn my opera homepage to a set of sticky notes/ clock/music widgets would also be equally awesome5 -
A link I've been visiting quite often since I moved to Ubuntu 18.04
https://askubuntu.com/questions3 -
me: alright, let's update Ubuntu disco
*a few moments later*: disco-updates.tar.gz.gpg missing

Ubuntu installation freezing every single time I try to install it. Trying since yesterday. Dammit Ubuntu!19
-
So since elementary is based on Ubuntu 16.04 would it be possible to turn it back into Ubuntu but keep all my data then upgrade to 17?3
-
Elementary or Ubuntu?
I like elementary's ui, but I don't know if I can get any benefit from switching from Ubuntu to this one15 -
Ubuntu has taken the "Lindows" thing too far. Three updates in and the built-in RDP server gets fucked.
If canonical makes so much money with ubuntu...why are they even allowed to make such mistakes? Fedora is much more stable with newer packages.
Sadly most popular software opts in for Debian's cousin who likes to eat Elmer's glue. -
Should I wipe my duel boot Ubuntu/Windows and install antergos base + X + i3-wm during my final month of thesis?
Is there a really good reason to drop Ubuntu in favour of antergos base?1 -
Why the FUCK does this bloated Ubuntu rotten swamp corps of a former beautiful Debian always, really ALWAYS, FUCK UP distro upgrades!! Which retarded spoon shagger at Canonical came to the conclusion it were a good idea to release every 6 month, regardless of the inability to actually update this crap?!? My other systems run Arch since their first install back in 2009, still clean and up-to-date systems!!!!3
-
->Replaced Windows with Ubuntu Budgie on first day of internship
->Ubuntu crashes under slightest pressure (running Firefox with like 5 tabs + VS Code)
😔5 -
I've been doing software development for my personal projects on Windows OS since college, and I just started dual booting Ubuntu...
How did I not realize how slow Windows was for coding until now? Holy. The customization of Ubuntu is insane.3 -
For some reason my Ubuntu stopped viewing the open windows when pressing 'super+tab' and it felt as if I couldn't navigate the os anymore, like I was just sitting there feeling....stuck. Holy shit we've taken these features for granted.
-
Aah fuckin ubuntu setup,
I made a some free space from windows disk management for Ubuntu setup, afterwards the turned on ubuntu setup, it showed the free disk space as unusable!!!
I did something,i don't remember, and somehow I entirely erased my E:(contains all my media) Drive 🤦. I was also about to erase my D drive ( contains all my dev work and all).Than I stopped and will sort it later.
I always have my media backed-up on mulitple disks hence I didnt lose much. But Why the fuck does Ubuntu show empty space as unusable ?????2 -
At the risk of starting a war I have to ask...
Should I use Ubuntu or Arch and why? I've always used Ubuntu but have seen a lot of people talking about Arch. Maybe it's time to make the jump?17 -
Technical issues......Had to switch to Ubuntu,
Do me a favour guys, those who'll put Ubuntu over any os provide me some motiv@tion..
Having to change the os, terrible thing for a begginner. 😕18 -
Short but sweet:
why doesn't linux mint (an Ubuntu-based distro) fucking trim SSDs by default? Ubuntu doesn't do it by default either!9 -
Spent 4 FUCKING HOURS to solve a connection issue on my Ubuntu Server only to get a call after said time from the server provider that they installed an firewall and blocked my fucking port. WHY ????2
-
Ubuntu 20.4 is not very cool.
It might look "polished" in some (barely noticeable) areas , which doesn't matter to me as i already used better themes and icon packs. Moreover they tried make ui and icons flwt which looks terrible. It feels like to ubuntu's designers , flat= every icon in a dark gray color. Am not a fan of black topbar either, the old darkish looked much better
The worst thing is that now i have to go through multiple start screens since my laptop is dualboot :/ .
Its now like : black screen > (hp+ubuntu logo) + grub > (hp) > (hp+ubuntu logo + loading icon) > lockscreen > my system
Earlier it was just hp> grub>lockscreen>my system. The fast start up was one of my favourite features of Ubuntu, now its a million loading screens. The lockscreen is cool tho6 -
Why do people use Ubuntu when there is Elementary. Elementary is easier to use and have a working wifi driver for default.3
-
happiness is formtting half of your classmates laptop from windows to ubuntu!!!
#WelcomeToTheFamily7 -
Worked until now on my private mac and used pymssql and freetds to connect and work with a MSSQL DB and Python
Two days ago I switched to an Ubuntu Machine and I couldn't get it to work.
As it turns out Ubuntu was not able to solve the DNS Name into an IP Address.
FML - 2 days wasted2 -
Creating a partition for Kali or new version of Ubuntu. I know a lot of devs say Ubuntu is the Windows of Linux, but I kind of like it2
-
I needed to do a fresh install of Ubuntu again because it wouldn't start. I'm starting to feel like a real Ubuntu user
-
Bash on Windows. Why? Good or evil? Thoughts?
Ok so I'm going to throw it out there, I'm a newcomer-ish to both Ubuntu and programming (2nd year CS). I'm using Ubuntu for the OS module. Can I run the C programmes in a "Windows" environment now?2 -
I am thinking about installing a Linux Distribution on my Pc... I can't decide between Ubuntu or Debian. Which one would you recommend for a Linux beginner or would you recommend a complete different distro? :-)6
-
CentOS or Ubuntu for developing?
I've been working on Ubuntu as developer for a couple of years. As a requirement in my new job, they want me to use CentOS, so i was wondering how different could be it to Ubuntu?2 -
!rant
Which one do you stand for?
Ubuntu Unity VS Ubuntu Gnome
Let the games begin.
If you use a different OS, go ahead and add it in the comments!5 -
It all started last night.
I removed libdev2.so using apt remove and before I knew what the fuck was going on half my packages on ubuntu were broken.
Then I got this idea (which I m fucking regretting right now!) to just upgrade my ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 and reinstall the broken packages again.
I spent my entire night and this morning for upgrading and configuring it.
I left the pc on for a while and when I got back I see, the firefox is fucking lagging on youtube, stack overflow, pornhub every damn site even my localhost which never happened in my 17.04
Fuck, I wasted half a day and now I m just going to downgrade this shit1 -
A few days ago ubuntu decided not to start, yep, in the middle of my exams mind you, so i decide fuck it am moving to windows, i installed ubuntu on wsl, loving it , i ain't coming back linux it was a nice 3 yr run.5
-
It's 4am and I finally installed Linux for the first time (Ubuntu, the easy to install one)... And now it's stuck and won't load after login asdasd I feel dumb and I need to sleep.
I really thought I had done it lol "bitch you thought"4 -
On these days, I’ve been trying to update at least my Firefox or chromium in the Ubuntu 12.04.1 because they work so slowly and everything I found was using terminal command sudo apt-get upgrade or update. I tried that but what my console was showing me has nothing to do with what I saw on a few tutorials, can anyone explain why this is isn’t working?
Pd: I suppose my Ubuntu version is pretty old10 -
I remember when I was on Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.04, there was that weird glitch on TeXstudio where it initiated a system shutdown signal when I just press on the power button, even for less than half a second.
And now, I don't have this problem on Xubuntu. I still don't know what were the circumstances of this glitch, but I don't think I need to bother about it for now lol -
Went to download Kubuntu over Ubuntu since I'm not a fan of Unity. Error message during install, crashed computer, have to reinstall Ubuntu using backup USB -.-4
-
Guys,
Is there anyway I could start a hotspot in Ubuntu, while I'm still connected to the desired network, so that I share the internet connection?4 -
Before installing Arch Linux, I failed to see why I'd use it over Ubuntu.
After installing Arch Linux, still have no idea why I'd use it over Ubuntu.
(Still using and loving it though, after 3+ months.)1 -
Quick, should I install manjaro over Ubuntu?
I didn't set /home as a separate partition. please tell me the move is worth it.4 -
So who at Xilinx decided that their toolchain should only support a years old Ubuntu version which is buggy and one minor release behind LTS?6
-
Fuck ubuntu 18.04 with their snap format. Yes it's good for things that ubuntu users need, like libreoffice or Chrome.
But GOD SAKE WHY DOCKER ?
21 days ago it was not even possible to modify daemon.json reliably xD4 -
Has anyone heard of anbox? It's something that they say could run android apps on Ubuntu. Is it worth using? Or am I better off with an android vm? If vm which android version do you people recommend?2
-
I was reading Mysteries of Udolpho while using Ubuntu and the words got mixed up in my mind, so suddenly I was reading Mysteries of Ubuntu while using Udolpho.
-
That moment when you really want to try swift but Ubuntu. I can do this on Mac(in house) but I prefer laptop with Ubuntu in work 😩2
-
I have been developing laravel projects with PHP 7.2 for a month on my new macbook air. Today i had to work on php5.6 project and got really frustrated cause homebrew doesn't have php5.6.
Should i install ubuntu?
Is there anyone using ubuntu on macbook air?
What are the problems?9 -
I thought I'd actually stick with a Ubuntu for once. But, Elementary OS looks so cool... Apparently it is also quite fast and lightweight. I might actually put on the work to transfer from Ubuntu. Ugh.. I'll at least try and wait till I get my new computer and try it there.....3
-
Ubuntu is causing problems like lock administrator etc on lan connection. Can anybody suggest what to do or should i change the distro?😑😑😑😑3
-
Fuck Ubuntu and it's caching. What's that? Oh you have 180 Gigs of free space? Let me take care of that for you in a few minutes. Say goodbye to your next boot and good luck figuring that shit out.5
-
Holy fucking shit, I hate ubuntu SO much.
So what it happened..
I was tryin to set up an Ubuntu server on my machine using virtual box, and I know what you are thinking, "VirtualBox?" yeah its the only machine I had lying around and it had windows and I didn't wanna re-format its hard drive.
So Here how it goes...
Install went fine.. But when I was trying to manage multiple network interfaces, it was Terrible & pain in the ASS 😡...
So initially I needed 2 network interfaces, one for NAT adapter and another Host-only interface for SSH and stuff.. so I made changes in virtualbox settings and rebooted the VM. and it stuck on "a start job is running for wait for network to be configured" I was like okayy and removed host-only adapter and rebooted, it booted fine :/ then I tried combo of bridged adapter with my Ethernet and a host-only adapter, and what? it booted finally! but this wasn't an optimal solution because it had and IP address within subnet of other devices with my router and half the bandwidth (like 50mbps or something).. I reverted back to NAT network & I checked with ifconfig and it STILL didn't had an IP address assigned to it for Host-only adapter!! FFS I deleted the VM and reinstalled the whole thing again but this time both interfaces attached..
after installing it stuck on same shit again :'(
"a start job is running for wait for network to be configured"... FUCK!
after about an hour of troubleshooting and trying different configurations, I still couldn't get it to work.. I never had such problems with centOS.
Fuck you ubuntu.. fuck you in the ass7 -

Had to face the music and make the jump from Ubuntu 22.04 to Fedora 36. Am I have to say it’s been night and day so far. Everything is snappier. Yeah dnf is very slow in comparison to apt but there’s changes you can make to speed things up and the nifty terminal interface is a great change and helps to make up for the speed issues.
Came with Python 3.10 installed, Gnome and gtk4 apps are nice, fluid and up to date and the random slowdowns, freezing and restarts of Ubuntu running the version of Gnome are nonexistent.
For the life of me I can’t see why Ubuntu would drop the ball like this. I have a Dell XPS 13 developer edition and this is the best it’s ever ran. Even wifi connectivity is better despite of the crap WiFi card that ships with this machine.
I want to love this version and while it is the most graphical appealing and functional version of Ubuntu I’ve ever used. The memory management issues make it damn near unusable.9 -
Ubuntu wanted to update after I booted. Didn't think it'd be a problem. Now this.. For the last 30 minutes. It's still on btw.8

Inspite of having a decent pc setup, ubuntu keeps stopping.
My pc specs are as follows :-
RAM - 16 GB DDR4
HDD - 1TB (Windows 10 professional)
SSD - 240 GB(Ubuntu 20.04LTS)
GPU - Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 ti
CPU - Intel i5-9400F (6) @ 4.100GHz
My daily usage hardly requires 5 gigs of ram. Ubuntu works suddenly hangs and works fine again...after sometime again this thing happens...in discord the same thing happens but more frequently than the normal workstation. When i give my password to login, then also it takes time more than normal to start. Even bootup takes like roughly 40 seconds whereas windows boots within 2-3 seconds. Any help would be appreciated.15 -
