Junior wanted to have a look at my CV to get some idea.
I told him "yeah sure" and showed it to him.
He applied to our company for internship. The CV is exactly same as mine with only name and work experience edited.

Applied for my first dev position last year. Interviewer asked for a code sample so I showed him some forum software I was working on at the time. I think my commit messages tanked the interview...5
-
A fresh graduate software engineer applied to the company and passed the coding exam.
Manager: Wow you got a very high score. Good job.
Applicant: Thank you sir. So am I hired?
Manager: Yes of course. You will be the team lead for one of the project.
Applicant: Wait wut????8 -
Applied for the job, recruiter got in touch with me and setup an interview.
Interview went well and heard I was hired after two days!
Yes, good recruiters, they exist ;)8 -
I have just landed my dream job. Coming from a background of java and python, I applied for a C++ heavy company... The interview process was centred on algorithms and I passed it. Now I get to learn the language I have always wanted to learn from pretty hardcore devs while I am getting paid. One of the best fucking days of the 21 years I have been alive for.3

I applied to three totally exciting jobs tonight. (!!!)
I feel so giddy ;3
Also: I had no idea salaries were so much higher than what I've been earning. I feel so horribly used and abused and undervalued. Toxic environment, indeed!
I will be so so so glad to leave it all behind. (And finally move!)
eeeeeeee!rant jeeze this place sucks. maybe it's the black mold in my kitchen good news root is excited and cheerful; what gives? job search17 -
Applied for a student JetBrains account, i got accepted in less than 12 hours. Thats what I call great customer service!14

In a nutshell, i severely underestimated myself, applied to a bunch of places and now they all want to hire me. Oh well.11

Once I applied for a Java position and they sent me a a online test, user and password. When I first tried to log in, it gave me an java exception. I lost hours trying to figure out the exception , thinking it was the test :/5

Recruiter: Do you use .net C#?
Me: Uh. No. I applied for a position of a front-end developer. I use JavaScript and...
Recruiter: Oh, that's good. We need an Android developer.
*sigh*7 -
Got a "Very Dissatisfied" rating from a user because apparently his issue took 30 days to resolve when the fix was applied in 30 minutes. I'm sorry. It took you 30 days to respond to my first email, during which I consistently sent follow-ups to you and your manger and I'm the bad guy?2
-
Email from a company I applied To:
"Hi... We will be in touch by the 7th of November"
Me:... It's December already. Maybe I missed it.
Second email: "Sorry! Typo. It's meant to say 7th of November. Refer to this instead"
Me: ...
THIRD email: "So sorry. Or mailing system is failing so disregard all those emails and refer to this one. Thank you."
Me: ... WHERE THE FUCK IS THE DATE!??6 -
So far this month I applied for 15+ game development related jobs, and spent ages carefully crafting customized cover letters and resumes for each particular job. Didn't get as much as a "thank you for your application".
Then, for the one random job application I applied to on LinkedIn using my most generic resume, and no cover letter, I get a near instant response and an invitation to coordinate day/time for an interview in person. Wtf.
Anyway, hope I get the job, because I'm running out of food.12 -
Fingerprint sensor is insecure
-gf can open your phone when you are asleep
-same with chloroform, unconscious, then use fingers
-can cut your fingers if it leads to that.
Fine I agree....but how secure is the face ID ??
-all of the same points can be applied to it.27 -
I applied for the wrong job for my placement year. Put down COMPSCI on the form (which, it turns out, is computational biology, which I knew nothing about) rather than ITSEC, which was the software dev side of things.
I only found out in the interview, when the first question was asked:
"So Almond, I'm a bit confused as to why you've applied to this role specifically given you've no biology background at all - could you fill us in?"
...errr...
I spewed some kind of crap on the spot about wanting to work in a field where I saw a direct & differing application of computing than I'd seen before, and thought my focus on the technical, rather than the scientific side of things might be an asset to them. This awkward exchange went on for a while - but somehow it seemed to work, because I was offered the job, and decided to take it - had a fantastic year there.5 -
So I dropped out from University after 5 years because I was fed up with it, took a look at the job market, found something interesting, applied for it and got it. Now I'm here on my first day, sitting on the toilet, scrolling through DevRant.

1. Applied to a tech company based in Seattle
2. Interviewed
3. Got rejected because "At the moment, they do not hire international students."
Then, why did you interview me in the first place? :')4 -
I applied for a job in a small gaming company. They rejected me by saying they can’t hire students.
I was cool with it because they didn’t waste my time and told me their decision right away. I started my own gaming company.
Fast forward 6 months later I went back with a business proposition. They accepted it. Its been 8 months now. Everything is going smooth.13 -

So I started working at this IT company here in Oslo. Norway. After almost 6 months, I have almost not had anything to do, except little over just 1 month where I actually worked on a project, and now that is done. I have nothing to do, so today I applied for 11 jobs.8

Got a message yesterday from a company about some dev job that I applied for a while ago...
Don't remember anything about the requirements, but I know that they were exclusively looking for people highly proficient in spoken and written English.
From our brief chat, I can only hope that the position is for a FUCKING ENGLISH TEACHER!6 -

Applied for 4~5 internships yesterday, got an answer today for the most interesting one saying that the position is still open, that they are interested by my profile and that they want to meet. That really made my day 👌8 -

My first ever interview for a developer position involved waking up around 9am to a call from an unrecognized number.
I answered and realized it was someone from a startup I applied to just a day before.
Instant phone interview with tech questions on React and Angular, and I BS'd my way through it, knowing almost nothing about either. Got the job, somehow.6 -

When I mentioned that I applied for Software Developer role, I was told that there is no vacancy for that role then why the fuck did you advertised and fuck the fuck did I apply.

Super exited! Been thinking for a while now about getting back to software development (worked couple year as dev in my teens decade ago and since then have been in completely different field of work).
Finally made some effort towards my goal and applied for a position nearby.
After four rounds of interviews and tests, I got the job! Awesome!2 -
New dev: I need help with this issue. I've been debugging it all day.
*2 hours later*
Me: spent a while debugging it, eventually came across a stack overflow post that says you can't do that.
New dev: oh I saw that earlier, didn't think it applied.
Me: ... why ... accepted answer "It is not possible to do this, this way".
New dev: hhhmm, ok
... get the fuck out of this building immediately.3 -
I feel terrible making $3,634/year at my current job in Nigeria with all my skills and experience.
I've applied for jobs in Germany and had a couple of interviews but they fell through.
It's difficult been a software engineer in Nigeria. 😔19 -
I applied for a google step internship today. My cv is pretty good (people say). University transcript is a malformed csv and I am forced to provide a screenshot. Wish me luck.3

I'm a student in applied computer science and yesterday I had a course where we use drupal and we needed to update our drupal site. The professor told us at the beginning that in a previous lesson some people needed more than 2 hours to do this. I started laughing because whybin the world would you need more than 2 hours to update a site, right?
It took 3 hours to update my site -_-5 -
fucking hosting company...
Just got a ticket back explaining that "the settings you want to make to your mysql database aren't possible with our hosting products". While they state in their FAQ that there are no restrictions applied. (We are talking about to possibility of using JOIN here!)

I got the job and wow that was fast. I applied for the job on monday at 2 am and they sent me the contract on tuesday (today) at 10pm. Thats 44 hours from the first mail until I got the contract :D
Also: I just love it, the company seems to be exactly what I was looking for5 -
Getting a rejection letter six months after starting a job when you haven’t applied to jobs since you got said job is weird. Like, what’s the point in even sending a rejection 8 months after a person applied?
Either:
a) they’ve already assumed you weren’t interested and have moved on with their life or
b) they were really REALLY interested in the possibility of working for your company and have been eagerly awaiting reply… only to be given the terse rejection email 8 months later.
And in neither of those scenarios is that person going to have a higher opinion of the company because you took the time to respond eventually.
I just… I don’t get it, mates.rant sarcasm is my first language crushed about it — really i am job hunting and interviewing is ridiculous7 -

I'm going through job applications from technical point of view in our company.
A guy applied for 4th time already and in the field "Webpage or LinkedIn profile" he always puts: linkedin.com/feed.
How can I take him serious as a developer if he doesn't know that /feed is not his personal page.4 -
Declined a job offer with a startup, partly because of imposter syndrome. Applied for position as programmer, showed up for interview and got cold feet when it turned out they actually wanted/needed a senior programmer/chief technology officer and offered me the position after having asked me no technical questions, seen none of my code or previous projects.
Still, it was a job that paid money... And I'm still jobless two months later :(7 -
Just applied to a job with Microsoft with no professional dev history at all... I consider it a Turing test..3

Applied to a job I knew I was a perfect match for but never heard back. Wondered why but ah well. Applied to another and go to edit my cover letter to find out I had "joined the company when I was three years old" inside of it. Note don't write cover letters at midnight when your tired.2

Dad showed me how to build a computer when I was three. Then he spent the next ten years explaining how variables work over and over.

Okay so I have a lot of experience in UI/UX, graphic design, and Front End dev, but I hate it. My github and resume are full of front end shit because it makes up most of my experience, and so when I apply to software dev things I often don’t get interviews because of lack of exp.
Well today I got an email from a big company that I applied to over a month ago and they told me that I was an excellent candidate and that they’d like to interview me. I say “the position is still open? I applied over a month ago!” to which they respond “well, the position you applied to has closed, but we are looking to hire a UX developer and had your application in our UX pool of applicants”
I did not fucking apply for this. They saw my application and threw it into the pool for future UX gigs and I’m mad because I’m not in a position to not interview for this job but I also really want to work in software.
Do you think, assuming I got the job, that it would hurt my prospects further to work in UX?3 -
I am not a native english speaker and the position I applied for required good spoken and written english:
Please use the english language to explain to a 5 years old the purpose of a semaphore.8 -

"I have applied to 600 software dev jobs in 2/3 months and have had around 8 interviews but still no dice.

jesus i'm going to give up now. i'd rather be homeless than mindlessly wasting my time12 -
Is it too much to ask for companies in the current world to be.. oh I don't know.. honest and consistent?
If you advertise on your Job section: "We always give our candidates feedback, whether they got the job or not". Then, *****, give them feedback! I applied and they never got back to me. And no, that's not feedback.6 -
When I applied to my current job I was imedialety called to an interview. I was greeted by my soon-to-be coworkers and we entered the room where the interview was going to be held.
The boss walked accross the room and opened a door in the wall, took out three beers and asked if I wanted some too. I declined because I had a 3 hour drive home. Still got the job.6 -
Applied for a job at Canonical.
Was waiting for an e-mail response to know if I would move up the interview process or not.
Got a standardized e-mail to evaluate their hiring methods and how fast it was.
In that standardized e-mail there was this question:
"Do you know why you didn't move up on in the application process?"
Fuck. The e-mail should have something saying "Spoiler alert".6 -
Waiting for an email from a job j applied for as a SQL manager, they have no IT and they want me to rework their data model for the year. Did I mention I'm incredibly underqualifyed.2

Applied for job. CV says I've been a web developer for over 6 years. Js included.
Recruiter doesn't read and discards me with b.s. excuse that I haven't developed with JS for more than 3 years.
I clarify that with polite email. Her boss send me an email to fill my portfolio on .docx file.
Wtf? I let it go.
Two days later they tell me I'm not responsible for doing their b.s. documentation.7 -
Sorry for the so many jobs I didn't applied because I thought Scrum is a js framework XD omg... Actually... omg.4

Question for all senior developers / lead developers / higher ups out there.
If you were looking for a job, and this company that you applied for which specifically stated that they are looking for a senior developer on the job listing page, asks you to be a junior developer for a few months to prove yourself, would you still be interested in working for that company?22 -
Hi my dev friends... I have applied for Microsoft Student Partner, and need your support. I have uploaded a Video for the 1-minute Video challenge, and need good stats on that. Please watch the video and if you like it, feel free to hit the like button and Comment... (That will be awesome)

At the beginning of my IT career I was so desperate to get into this field that I even read a PHP 4.3 intro book and applied for a php dev role

Recently applied for a Junior DevOps position. Didn't even get further than the recruiter because they wanted at least 3 years' experience. I'd hardly call that Junior! I was even willing to take the slight pay cut from my current position as a mid level dev3

I think I’ve applied to 5 jobs that show up as “remote” now only to get halfway through a screening call and find out “oh, we’re looking for people in Albuquerque”.
Are my expectations out of whack? If you’re looking for someone in your city, you’re not looking for someone remote. You’re looking for a local worker who just has an office that’s not on your balance sheet.
Is it semantics?
Am *I* the bastard?5 -
Just got a rejection letter.... I haven't applied to a job in a year. These guys took their sweeet-ass time.... lol3

There was this motherfucker searching a dev to build a vue component on freelancer.
I applied. 🙄
Then he started to ask me out about Upwork. How he wants to use my account through TeamViewer. And how he will pay me for this monthly.
Why am I magnetic to idiots and scammers? Can some one please Avada Kedavra all idiots? I will pay you monthly. I swear.3 -

The shady company that tried to interview me for a data entry job when I applied as a software developer called me. They left a message asking if I was still interested in a help desk position. Like nope and I never was. Been working at my current job as a software engineer for over a month. Try finding people who actually want the jobs you're offering!6

Be yourself, don't make yourself look better (or worse!) than you actually are. Also, I never made a side project in my life and I landed every job I applied for. Don't pretend to be someone you're not.

Wouldn't say our teamwork failed we just sucked that day.
I had a ticket to fix a SQL sp and then correct some data afterwards. As this was the typical "urgent fix need now" we went through a different process for fixing it.
Me: Just sent you some scripts can you check them over before we apply it to uat?
Boss: let's go through it together.
5 mins later
Boss: looks fine I'll apply the scripts.
2 minutes later
Me: did you apply the scripts to uat?
Boss: No I applied them to live.
Me: oh ... oh no.
At this point I realized I was missing a critical where clause so yup my update was applied against all of the data.
Boss: oh
Yup he just spotted my error.
Helpdesk phones start ringing
Boss: you pick it up it's your code
Me: hey you applied its your problem now.
One db restore and several incident meetings later we fixed it. Twas a fun day.1 -

So... I went to Google's Applied CS with Android programme.
Had fun, some good people I met, finally there is a person I know who loves C/C++ as well and has similar traits to mine.
Other than that, I still hate Java dearly and idk how I got selected.
But... It. Was. Fun!!! 🤗🤗2 -
why the hate on java? ok, i'm only studying applied computer sciences for a year now, we mainly saw java /javascript and i like them. personally i worked with python, c, c#, php, swift too but i still don't see the problem with java4

So, after crashing and burning during my last interview I’ve applied for another job, this time as a Technical Support Engineer.
Bringing my aspirations down slightly to spend a bit more time building up my experience.
But, the job is for a good company, and I can work from home. -
Full stack isn’t about knowing just a backend and little bit of JavaScript. Turns out a bunch of them who applied this week seem it have derived a new meaning for it!
Throwing around terms like “I am exploring MEAN” doesn’t make you sound cool unless you have some working examples that you have built with it.7 -
Estimated 12 hrs for a landing page that looks more like a home page design. Coded it and flipped it into WordPress in 6 hours, full functionality. Client says design still isn't approved because of text changes...that were already applied in development 😑

!rant && anxiousness
So, I applied for several jobs because I started hating my current job and the boss.
On my CV and motivation letter I really only wrote stuff I am confident enough with to show if someone would ask me.
I only have 2.5 years of work experience and a B.Sc.
In 3 days I already got 2 answers out of 3 companys, I applied at, who would like to meet me.
Tomorrow is the first meeting.
Now I am anxious that I might still not live up to my CV or motivation letter although I know that I use the techniques mentioned there daily.
I fear that I might be not as good as they might think now, even feel like I know nothing at all.
I never really believed I would fall in the imposter syndrome trap, but here it is.
Any advice? I really want to find another job and I don't want to screw up the interview because I am too nervous.4 -

My friend applied for passport renewal yesterday from different state and received a message for printing in evening. -
In the last module of my bootcamp(make all the jokes you want about bootcamp I have thick skin and a degree 😬) and just started applying for jobs. First job I applied for was a big company asking for 5+ years experience.
Might as well get used to rejection early 😂3 -
lol @ doing stand-ups for the sake of stand-ups. I used to work for a company that vigorously applied them. Bro, I don't care about your development progress. You're wasting my time with your bla bla. Bunch of people just standing there rattling out their daily progress.. but no one really caring. Not useful.
lol..10 -
Client: Why was the payment applied to the May invoice?
Me: Because that is the only open bill.
Client: We want to apply it to the July invoice.
Me: What business rules exist to hold an invoice open in order for the payment to be applied to a future invoice?
Client: ...can you manually correct this?

Interviewer: We need fullstack developer with a salary of $100 for two months of training and $450 if you have great accomplishments9 -
mom: son you received a package
me: wow 😍 (expecting stressball)
mom: oh nice, it is great
me: wow (so fast international delivery)
mom: it an invitation to a state level event organised by state government
me: yeah, mom i applied for it.
stress over stressball -
I have plenty of those but one that shines out from the croud is one frontend guy.
He had to modify some javascript slider but couldn't figure out how.
So he comes to me and tells me he found the code where the slider is initialized but changes are not applied.
I walk up to his desk and he shows me some CSS code with #slider selector in it.6 -
Applied to an AI startup, offering 100 bucks if I pass their coding challenge…hopefully just an algo question and not a damn jira ticket7
-
In Switzerland, when you are unemployed you need to candidate for a certain amount jobs per month in order to get money from the insurance...
So I applied to complete my list, but never intendet to actualy go to this (FUCKING) company... And here I am, and I want out :-(16 -
I applied for a job as Frontend Dev, went to an interview and was rejected... Well they offered me to come to another interview for another position and if I'm lucky I will do animated and interactive Banners with CSS animation and JS in the future! So freaking awesome!2
-
Spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out why nginx was throwing a permission error even though I had the proper user/group permissions. Ends up that the entire path to the web root must have +x applied to it, not just the webroot!!2

GM sucks. (General Motors)
There HR sucks, can't call on booked time, for phone screening and wanted me after I applied for job 4 months ago. I still entertained them. But now, it has gone too far.
I am blacklisting GM for life. I will never ever work for them, unless they give me 1 Million per month2 -
Anyone recalls my raspberry's hotfix for overheating problem?
Frankly I am considering it as a long-term solution. I currently have a proper rpi fan applied but it's just too freaking noisy! I thought my work lappy is noisy when at 90C. But this tiny rpi fan is just.. Painfully loud! Especially when rpi is suppised to be tiny and invisible.
Soo.. Yeah.. 3"" fan for an rpi it is!9 -
Random number calling me:
"Hey, you have applied to us for a job"
Me processing the 150 job applications in my brain.1 -
Started learning React recently cause the job I applied for reqires it.
So far so bad.
I...I don't get it.
It might be that I'm just starting out, but I can't see any practical use for it. I don't GET it.
Ugh..never been this frustrated (which I'm guessing isn't helping the learning process.)
Gonna have to wing the shit outta that interview.7 -
Hardly a how, but relatable.
I applied for a job at a genetics company as junior developer (6 months after graduation and no job in that time). I was sadly declined the position so thought why not apply as intermediate developer at the same company and what would you know I got the job. -
I hate that the company that I work for has every hugging page blocked. I can't even download or use pip. For hug sake, I don't even have a project to work on and you stop me from working on any side projects?
I hope I get a call from the places I've applied for.4 -
Was offered a Mid QA position in my home country and just for shit and giggles applied to a QA Lead for another one (remote) and they offered me the QA Lead one as well. And now I don’t really know how the fuck you are supposed to measure seniority for this kind of jobs.2
-
Hi this is my first post. Kind of annoyed at the job market right now. I've applied to a lot of positions without much luck. My internship last summer got cancelled bc of covid, so all my actual job experience is retail. It's hard to break into the field even with a college degree.8
-
Got my first internship as a Web developer in exoitics India.
This is great day as I am only in 12th standard.
When I applied in the company then they reject even day not care to take exam but after then when I given and out off 5 questions I done 4 then they believe and appointed me as a Web developer.4 -
Today, I applied StyleCop Analyzer to our project codebase.
over 40k of warnings sounds like fun :D2 -
> unemployed (took a break)
> not gonna go back to the old company
> applied to another job, awaiting a response
> canceled Netflix
> Meanwhile doing small projects for myself, teaching like PWA and Web Notification API, focusing on javascript
> doing small time work (providing WordPress websites), not really proud of it, but only that works here for a small time3 -
I received a call from a company that I applied for to come for a design test. The guy said he would email the details and noted down me email address. I said OK. I didn't ask the guy's name. It's 2 weeks now and didn't receive any email. What do I do? The phone number connects to company's reception2

A Chinese coworker who always brought a tea flavoured hand lotion bottle and applied it before coding on his finger tips and wore the same clothes from Monday to Friday changed only his shoes...2
-
Company i applied for told me how they are planning to release a new project on friday.
... Decided for a different company -
Fuck ...Got a call for a job I applied and windows goes on fucking update and had nothing to say much about job cause I could not get to see or print job description. Fuck windows4
-
This just crossed my mind. The company i applied at was working with the freaking Wordpress for webshops and still they think i’m not good enough for them. Next time better check the code i send better. Insane. Bunch of fuckheads3
-
The correct amount of applied test time is often subjective. My theory to objectify is this.
Plug a tester into the mains supply.
Turn the juice on.
When his screams reach a certain pitch, you objectively know QA is done.
Thoughts?5 -
This is one of the coolest shader tutorials I have seen.
https://youtube.com/watch/...
It simply walks you through start to finish enhancing a weapon. I also found it can also be applied to 2D games as well. What I don't like is it is not setup to be generic. I will have to figure out how to make it be a weapon effect you can apply. I think having weapons provide a mask for where the shaders should be applied would make that possible. Then the generic effects can be applied to the weapons or removed. No need to have unique weapons of every type and for every effect.
This is the kind of tutorials that really get me going. When thinking of 2D I had not really thought about using shaders like this.4 -
Interview pointers please
I've so far applied around 5 jobs and none of them have reverted back to be. I think I gave my best but have not been able to crack the personal interview..
Any pointers??4 -
kinda pissed at github/microsoft right now. my friend applied for the student developer pack before microsoft bought github and got accepted in 10 min, i'm still waiting and it's been three days. how long did yours take?11
-
A friend of mine has been searching for a job for 3 months, he finally got one, signed a contract and started 2 weeks ago. Now he got an offer from a company he applied to, completed an interview and was abandoned and they want to pay 3x more than the present job. This is bad luck. Bad, bad luck3
-
How to approach job applications for EU and US market?
I have applied at multiple places and have never made it even to the first stage. The jobs I apply for, pretty much match my experience level and stack.
Does this have something to do with visa issues since I am from the Middle East?
Or is there something else I am possible missing out on.23 -
!Rant
A friend suggested a job offer from the company he's working for.
The team seems nice and mostly the same age as me. Also everything seems much more informal than my current company.
Besides the fact that I have not yet applied for this position, I already tempted to decline every bullshit meeting I have to participate :D
Seems that is time to change ;)7 -
I applied for an internal position within my company and spoke to the hiring manager.
She gave me extremely strong narcissistic vibes and something within me is screaming to stay the fuck away from that job.
What should I do? The opportunity is masssive with lots of learning accompanied by stress because it is a complete domain change (moving from B2B to B2C)?3 -
Just got accepted as a Tutor. I have to teach PhD students in medical field SciKit package for image processing. Been coding in Python using pandas and numpy for years, but I know jack shit on SciKit.
I applied just for fun and got the position. Now I am fucking terrified.
Meanwhile I rejected a Teaching Assistant position because of this one.6 -
I went to a machine learning meet up.. I asked every one over there to explain me K-means algorithm. I got K different answers, then I applied K-means algorithm on K different answers to form K clusters..1
-
After graduating, me and my friends looked and applied for jobs immediately. Our first job interview consists of 2 additional interviews but sadly, I failed the second one (don't ask why) but all of my friends passed so I was really bummed out. But I still attended the final interview and surprisingly, they didn't know I failed and we all got the job.2
-
I applied for a full remote position and got a job offer. The contract however says that I need to be in the office 3 days a week. 2 hours commute one way...
What a waste of time2 -
one of my previous employers would just box up your stuff, if you were fired or transferred. Once, a teammate came back from lunch to find her stuff boxed up and thought she was fired, when she'd actually been promoted to another team for a job she'd applied to months before1
-
Somehow managed to create my own theme for my IDE. Unfortunately didn't implement the highlight feature for semicolons, arrows, comma etc. (totally forgot about it)
Applied it super excitedly and started writing code.
Some lines later a simple loc generated error. Spent nearly 5 hours on fixing the issue. Later realized what was actually missing.
Fuck my life. -
The new (mobile) google results design looks horrible, what were they thinking when they applied *{border-radius:5px;}? 😷4
-
No one loves Java as much as Google and Oracle. They are willing to have a battle in court. Or maybe it is just that $9 billion 😂😂😝
But on a serious note as a former paralegal "I don't think copyright should be applied on a programming language " plus, I feel like even if it is applied... google is using java in it's own way (android) as the courts have stated that you can't copyright a language syntax or API definition. So Google can use the Java langauge syntax and core Java API freely on Android.
I don't know about you but, a lot of clients do bring up their concerns..on what the implications are for them and their company developing mobile apps!!
Any updates? Concerns? Thoughts?3 -
How many job applications did you send to get your first full-time job?
My friend applied for 200 jobs before he got one. I am in my 30s now, but my motivation has almost run out.
The future seems bleak.16 -
First patch for buildroot submitted and added applied to master!! 😁
I had the impression that git (like, more than "git add ." was just too complicated and that making patches was some sort of dark magic using some obscure unix tools.
Well, it turns out that is actually pretty easy, fun and exhilarating!!
Looking forward to build up until I'm making contributions to the kernel! 🤓 -
!rant.
I fucked up. Recently I applied for a job in Intel. All questions they throw at me I answered well, but there's one question that f**ked me hard that I can't think of any answer to. (Because ! am not familiar with this)
I was questioned about SLAM ( Simultaneous localization and mapping), I am new to this.
Now I think I failed to get the job. Therefore, I f**ked up12 -
Client asks "Why cant i see an active order on the grid", i say: "You have the No-Active filter applied", Client says: "I think thats no lt the correct behavior", then i just shoot myself...

So I applied to a Java internship, I'm an absolute newbie in coding, they invited me to an interview and we're gonna have an assessment exercise regarding Java and OOP in general, any one have a Java or OOP one weekend crash course? Thx!14

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for speaking to me earlier,
If you could send me the following details we can really get the ball rolling with the recruitment process.
• Any jobs you have applied for or interviewed (I need company name and position)
This stops me re applying you for jobs you’ve already applied for
• Any key elements an employer has to have for you
• A name phone number and position held for references at your current contract.
If we can get these over asap then we can start the ball rolling and get you a new position in the most time effective manner.
Kind Regards,
Brainless Lazy Back-Stabbing Recruiter.3 -
I was never promoted - mostly because I never stayed more than 8 months in the same company. I changed jobs so frequently that at some point an HR in a company I applied for asked me about it and thought it was not a good sign.5
-
Today I found a vulnerability in an local agency website. It's one of the famous and biggest that if I would applied they wouldn't even look at my cv. Long story short, I managed to login to their admin dashboard and sent a screenshot of it as a twitter mention to them. All they did was to like the tweet while I had the chance to fuck up the website.5
-
Not a rejection per se, but a company I applied to just stopped emailing me after trying to arrange a day for me to come to the office and meet the team, following an informal phone interview. They dragged their heels while I was on leave and by the time they got back to me I was back at work and had limited time. They basically just ghosted me after that.
-
I was just back home from a 5-month work trip abroad in another field and I had just found a new recruitment platform; applied to a company that had an ad in it and they contacted me like less than a week later. Arranged an interview, flew out, had the interview and received an offer like three days later. Almost four years later I'm still at that company.
-
The weekend is finally over, I have updated my Web Proxy and built an entire blog to post on and applied for a bunch of ad-networks.
I think I have been rather productive ☺ -
Best Experience: When I finally got my own machine so I could do whatever the heck I wanted to it. Learned and applied more than ever.
Worst Experience: Being an idiot and getting kicked off the only dev team I have ever been a part of because I asked too many questions and did no actual effort... -
When I wrote count++ in Python and got syntax error. Darn!!! I just applied Java and C syntax again!2
-
Finding internships as a college student is aggravating... I applied to 12 different companies in the last month and have only heard back from one and now I'm stressing out because it's getting very close to summer and I have no job. I have to pay for college and food and all that shit somehow but I can't exactly do anything about it besides apply to more companies and just sit and wait1
-
So how does dead code from 2007 still exist in this codebase, better yet why were there three of the exact same page literally no differences lmfao. Spent a moment having confused QA guys talk to me getting me confused because they couldn't replicate the solution that had been applied to all three versions of the page.
-
A recruiter calls me without any notification for a job I applied. The first qn i get is what is the salary I expect and how much work experience I have. Straight up rejected saying not enough experience. It wasn't a fancy company but surely looked decent enough. Is this pretty common or did I just dodge a bullet?1
-
Person marked the ticket as ready for review, but if you merged the PR, no effective changes would have been applied to the codebase as all line additions were commented out 🫠3
-
ok,. so i've been into job hunting for a while and i found this rather attractive posting with reasonable salary and work hours, it clearly states "PHP Backend Programming With Laravel", so i applied, a day later, i got in contact with the employer via skype, and to my surprise, the employer told me that skills in c# is required because the job position is for a senior c# dev... smh2
-
I was construction management for ~9 years, then I quit with really no back up plan, and decided to pursue a career in development. After a little self education I started checking Craigslist every day for internships/entry positions, and applied for all of them. Within a couple weeks I found a company willing to give me a shot, 2 years and a few agency jumps later in Still kicking.

me: *Taking Applied Statistics with R in the Math Department in my college*
classmates: "Did you get what's going on in that class?"
me: *never took statistics* Well I can get the programs to run, but I have no idea what they're telling me"
classmates: "I might get what's going on... if I could get the code to work."
me: "Well we're both doing great, then"1 -
I worried i would be jobless for six months. Ok i applied at at least 20 different companies but i’m only jobless for two weeks now =D

Did any body ever applied to a job at SO jobs? The conditions looks really good but it looks like they are only for senior dev or sharp profile on some extinct technologie.. did it ever work for any of you guys?5

Me: Spends 4 hours configuring my new IDE
Me: Hovers Apply for the last apply
IDE: Crashes
Ne: Reopen IDE, not worried as I applied and saved multiple times during setup
IDE,: Totally zero'ed EVERY SINGLE SETTING...
Me: Googles alternatives to X -
Started at a shit position (throwing truck) with a company to get my foot in the door. dev position opened up, so I applied. Only to find out employees have to wait 90 days before they can switch departments... 😑😑😑

Applied for a research intern, talked about their research and my current project for 10 minutes, then started a fucking coding interview, which I couldn’t solve cuz I’m dumb
But man, this is a research position, and our work were so close wtf?
Got rejection this morning, fuck the coding interview8 -
Got a call by a recruiter for a function i already applied at and already got rejected as well.
That was a very fast call! -
hi guys, I applied for a job and I passed a coding test. Now they called me for interview tomorrow. It will be an 2 hour on-site assessment group assessment for them to see how I think and work. I am a fresh graduate. Any advice? Feeling bit nervous9
-
Applied Discrete Math is fucking hard. Logic and proofs are freaking hard. Even Multivariable calculus is piece of cake. Give me Calculus, Linear Algebra and I can get a high grade.
How do you even start to wrote proofs?
I’m in Chapter 2 and struggling. Imagine the later chapters.6 -
When you finish a project that abuses vanilla js and canvas for real-time updates on tables generated from drag actions in a graphic (no raphael, paperjs or konvas) and test it in IE 😄
Thank god it's going to be applied in a controlled environment... a real browser can be used 😇 -
I don't get it.
The job listing is for a developer. I applied as a developer.
Why do they ask me whether I'd be willing to do tech support? What's their motive?6 -
Company I applied to for a senior position gave me a take home assignment and after reviewing said I'm maybe not to the senior engineer level but close and they'd like to consider me for normal engineer role. I personally don't think too much of it and can understand, but want to ask if there's any suspicion of trying to get a cheaper deal or if this is quite common actually.9
-
Recruiter after not hearing from a company I applied two months ago: "Please accept my apology for a belated reply, I am struggling with Office 365."
Fucker - if complexity of Office caused a two month delay to answer a fucking email than you need to have your small spastic brain checked asap.
Should've just kept his mouth shut rather than to insult people by sending these kind of excuses.2 -
I just saw a post about enki, and decided to try it out. Apparently there is a waiting list, but I applied for the beta and got a code less than an hour later. So if you're interested, definitely try that :D
Their site: Enki.com4 -
!dev , im just a sysadmin down in the mud...
But users!
"We dont want to put the webcam [of our choosing] in the powerful computer so we run the videoconference on the old crappy laptop we brought"
At it is laggy, bad audio etc.
But that is less scary than plugging in a cable? On a machine dedicated for videoconf, stands openly on a desk. And this is a technical university. Applied technical. -
I just applied to some student jobs (like cashier) and didn't even get an interview oO my life sucks, I'm going to delete myself :o1
-
So tomorrow I'm talking to the CEO of the company I applied a job for as the 4th step of the recruitemenr process. Kind of nervous about it because I don't know what to expect from this interview. Any advice?😬😬😬1
-
Every school I applied for the next year rejected me... So I'm forced to work next year instead... In a way that's great but I'm only 20 and wanted to get higher diploma for a better salary 😕2

Image upload is broken again so I made a page where we easy can upload and share any type (so we can share source files) of file on devrant: https://devrant.molodetz.nl

Design is 40% by GPT. Modified a lot. I'm happy with the looks now. Originally it was white mode, i applied filter: invert() for a dark mode. Result isn't bad.6 -
- Applied for a job at campus interview
- Got selected (yay)
- Turns out it's a BPO service center
Another opportunity will come, till then I'll apply for the paid PHP Internship. -
Had a interview over teams for what I applied for being a software position but the person interviewing me thought I applied for her HR position. No idea how that got fucked up that badly. She said she'd send my resume over to the technology hiring team. 🤦2
-
Applied to a new place that seems cool. Feedback: I am overqualified for what they need and they know I would get bored and leave.
Ok, so let's stay bored in the current one... fml. -
So I’m panicking a lil bit.
I applied to a bunch of summer co ops from like feb 20-25. I haven’t heard anything from any of them yet - not all of the postings have been closed but my first choice posting closed feb 22...
I know it hasn’t been all that long but I’m pretty used to getting responses (non dev jobs) within like a week and I’m scared that I won’t get ANY responses.
Most people started applying for co ops in December, and I know I procrastinated a lot, it’s just unlike regular jobs where u keep applying till u get something, it seems like co op applications shut down by now, 3 months before the summer term.
Did I screw myself over? Is it too late? I’ve never applied to co ops before and I just REALLY don’t want to spend another summer bagging groceries...1 -
The moment when the company you applied to as Junior Java Developer emails back asking for a date for a phone interview and it's been 3 days passed the day you picked with them and still no call.. 🤔😥3
-
Who of you actually like the product you work on or the company you work for? today I knew I do when a company I had applied for 7 months ago called me (fashionably late i guess) and i politely said Im happy in my current job and am not interested anymore.5
-
Applied for a Laravel position
No Laravel code or projects and shoved into Wordpress Dev.
What waste mine and their time.
I suppose it just wouldn't have worked out anyway.
Onwards and upwards.1 -
When I graduated and I applied for jobs, companies were all over me and I was flooded with phone calls and e-mails of recruiters. For each job I applied for, I would get a reply 9 out of 10 times.
Now, 2 years later, 1 year in the field and jobless, I get zero replies and no one is interested in me anymore. Most of them say that they don't want someone who's worked for only 6 months in one company and a few months in others. It isn't even my fault.
Weird..
Has anyone experienced this?7 -
Follow-up to this post: https://devrant.com/rants/1917090/...
I am most probably going to choose the study program "Ingenieurinformatik" (in English: "engineering informatics" or aka "computer systems in engineering").
Why?
It combines mechanical engineering, [...] with informatics. Cptn. Obvious.4 -
And this is how to properly use devrant!
Just made some custom css changes and applied them with stylish extension. -
I applied for System Analyst vancancy. I got the interview. I went for the interview. Today I received an email stating that I've not been selected.
Inner me: Rejection is part of life. Hang in there.2 -
this is not a rant.. more like the opposite of rant.. I want to share my overwhelming joy.. that is.. finally receiving my preview for AWS EFS!!!!! I must have applied for this about 8 times! And only today, do I get my prayers answered! Today is going to be a good day! :D2
-
How many days an hour do you real professionals actually spending writing code... Right now between work as a junior front end dev, class and an applied project for school my brain is mush by the middle of the week and I spend my weekends trying to avoid opening my laptop, I hope I'm just overloaded right now and that I don't feel like this when I graduate.
Im getting a little worried though.2 -
gRPC is very messy and unstable, dependencies doesn't compile (workaround is possible), gRPC don't supports libressl (there exist some PR to add libressl support, so I applied them), finally gRPC doesn't compile.
Have fun using gRPC in C or C++1 -
Applied to nearly 50 vacancies in Australia for role of Software Engineer/Developer. Maybe about 10 of them replied and said:
1. due to current international restrictions we are unable to provide Visa sponsorship for overseas candidates
2. we have decided not to move forward with your application
Waiting for others to reject me too.1 -
The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.

Applied for summer co-op positions today. First time applying for tech jobs! So much more nerve wracking than applying for random whatever I can find jobs. I’m so scared and imposter-syndrome-y, but I know everyone feels that way... aaaah1
-
Hmm.. I applied as a QA Tester on company x instead of web developer(back-end). So that I will know how to properly test my side projects. And planning to shift on web development on the next year. I hope this is right. Haha2
-
Fellow Devs,
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am at a loss. I have applied to several Front-End jobs, both local, and remote. I have personal projects on my portfolio, and I offer to do "homework," that's been assigned while applying for a job. I am currently learning Python, but I don't have a project up with that.
Any suggestions?16 -
Was going through a Java book that jokingly read 'The volatile modifier may also be applied to project managers'.
I do get what volatile does to instance variables. But I didn't really get the joke though. Anybody care to explain?2 -
Studied applied physics and electro engineering for 3years since I'm a stubborn idiot, went shit. Had my first code course in C and knew that I had to change education. Life quality increased by a factor of 10 for me. And I haven't looked back ever since.

Question about GPG:
So I understood the concept and successfully applied it to my Gitlab, but how helpful is it?
From what I understood it helps detecting which commits are from verified authors and which are from just someone who has access?
I'd appreciate if someone explains more on how helpful it is :)5 -
Just applied for my first internship, the manager said they just hired a girl fresh out of college so there might not be any payment opportunities (which I wasn't expecting anyway)
Might get a technical interview next Monday or Tuesday, wish me luck!2 -
I know using Composition is a good way of reusing components. Works like a charm and sends data down the tree like a waterfall.
But in our codebase it's applied to bugs. Fix one, get two more, fix two get four more.
I want to cry :'(( -
So, all the jobsoffers that went through the headhunters turned into rejections.
The ones I applied for myself all resulted in success 🤔 makes yyou wonder2 -
HR manager of a company I had applied for called me using her mobile phone. Is it me, or is it unprofessional? I never ever use my mobile phone to call a customer. I am thinking about withdrawing the application based solely on this. Any suggestions?7
-
I applied to this company and I can't find any information on them. What they stand for, their mission statements... I'm kinda sketched out. Should I continue applying to this company?
In hindsight they're "Still operating largely in stealth mode" so maybe I shouldn't be surprised, also there seems to be no way to tell what their paygrade is and I don't want to step into something that may not be for me.2 -
I applied for a job on Upwork..
Client was in regular touch with me through emails.. He selected me after I showed him code of the projects done by me..
Then I sent an email asking him to tell me more about the company..
And no reply from him thereafter..
Any similar expeirence? Aren't we supposed to know atleast something about the company that we are working for?2 -
Basic story on what this is:
This function when applied a @SideOnly(Side.CLIENT) shouldn't complain that it must be applied on a Side.SERVER.. but IDEA is being a troll and justs complains that this is an issue and must be applied on a Side.SERVER .. but it compiles so eh... i will just let it be... -
I need to change how payments are applied to invoices.
ApplyPolicyPayments() looks promising! Make changes to the method to look at the bills in order of the invoice due dates.
Run a test on the DEV environment, and the system is still exhibiting the same bug.
At this point, I wrote a quick logging plugin that I could attach to the DLL and start telling me what is going on.
Turns out, payments are actually applied in a method named BalancePolicy(). So what does ApplyPolicyPayments() do? It DOES apply payments to bills, but then just doesn't save the work. Having it commit the transactions breaks the billing system. FML. -
I just found out i've wasted month of my life by troubleshooting wrong component.
I was unable to access my application in cluster and suspected networking and port configuration. (custom corporate setup with chaotic documentation did not help to situation)
In the end, it was caused by Jenkins, which failed on building a new container but still showed "build: success" while it deployed May version of container without any changes applied. -
Whatever be the current trend on Linked-In, at the end of the day the product development life cycle remains quite the same.
Still, as developers which general domains in software do you think would flourish in the near future?
My picks (not in order) -
>> Cyber security : automation, both offensive and defensive
>> Block chain : trustable data platforms
>> Applied AI : a few key models, applied to all niches, bettering existing UX
>> IOT : wearables, embeddables, smart appliances
>> AR : Navigation prompts, real time info about real life objects
>> VR : Immerse entertainment. (Metaverse 🤮)
>> Quantum computing : first gen costly commercial releases, new algos
What would you add or subtract from this?1 -
Is ± read from left to right or right to left?
So if I write 1m ± 1% ± 1% does that mean 1m ± 2.01% (1% applied twice) or 1m ± 1.01% (1% applied to 1%)?8 -
That would be the !important rule, when the client wants some ui change but the stupid library has !important rule applied.. and also the media queries in combination with width/height and percentages, trying to adapt the ui because the client ones ie8 support..

Not a dev job, but was once called about a month after I applied for a job and was told they put me at the top of their pile of applications and never heard from them again

Technically we are not getting any paid leaves. Because we have to complete tasks of the day too on which we have applied for leave. Before the leave-day🤔

I remembered about my HackerEarth test for a company I had applied to. Quickly took the test and literally submitted it at the last minute. Phew, that was close😅....

Fuck! After spending the day playing shit with our servers FS to extract more space, I had to restart the servers for the changes to be applied all this because of a shitty architecture and a minor desire from the management!
The ssh server didn't start with the server, what am I supposed to do now..4 -

I was out of work for 6 months...I applied at a company that takes in devs and trains them. There was a test, then a personal interview, then a bootcamp process...it was hard. But I pulled through.

"Google chrome is outdated because it hasn't been restarted for a while. An update will be applied if you restart Google chrome."
uhm.... Logic is something different, I guess? -
In need of a job where I can make the kind of money I want, I applied to xteam (I'm not based in the US which makes a big obstacle to getting a job there) and no reply. I applied to G2I and they said they only want full time (So I guess my profile is good). So, I'm hoping to finish my current project quickly to apply again.
@xteam, you really should revise your hiring process, it's really disheartening to not receive any feedback from a platform that says it focuses on community.5 -
I am hearing reports from less computer savvy people that some Apple devices will refuse to charge the battery if updates are not applied. Supposedly as a way to strong arm users to update. I cannot find anything on this when searching.
Has anyone heard of this?8 -

I applied to a position for a Java position in Brussels. Having 7 yr experience in Java how much should I aim for? Keep in mind I don't work in Belgium currently -
Just applied for my next school, I'm going to study application development. Lets hope for the best and hope that I pass my exams and get accepted.1

Company I applied to is going to make an offer me tomorrow. I feel like they will try to kinda lowball me. Is it rude to ask for lets say plus 10 percent as soon as I receive the offer ? In your experience have you did this and how it ended?1

Can anyone recommend some good resources to brush up on Big O notation?
I’ve bought some books etc, but just looking for more information.
I stupidly applied for a job at a FAANG company, and they’ve invited me in for an interview (thought I’d get knocked back at the sifting phase).4 -
Just applied in windows Never in Linux.
Before call to technical support, apply the first rule in windows.

I start my summer class tomorrow; Applied Probability and Statistics. I took a look inside the textbook for the class, and now I want to kill myself. Oh well, at least it's not Calculus 2.5

I've had a hard time getting on board with Google using the "Yes, and..." approach in design sprints. IMHO, it's tough to apply a stream-of-consciousness from improvisational theater to building software. Two completely different arenas.
Personally, I've always applied the "No, because..." approach, designing pessimistically/programming defensively, while still being innovative, creative & empathetic. I get the psychology of public criticism making teammates butthurt & stymieing future contributions...but that's maturity.10 -
Do people get emails from Amazon, saying you already applied couple years back but
there was no luck, but hey we have these jobs now, are you interested?
Or this is some kind of scam 🤣6 -
Need advice.
I applied to a company and i am still waiting for the reply via email, the last email they sent was monday, should i wait or just find another job opportunity, the interview went well but i dont know if they will reply or not.4 -
Is anyone else interested in the Characteristica Universali. It's very fascinating and not enough people know about how it can be applied to non neural network artificial intelligence.

Today was the first time, that Git saved my ass.
I'm building an MS Access DB with fronted and apparently I fucked up while working on some FS stuff and corrupted the fronted-db.
Luckily, I sync my changes regularly to a git-repo so I just took my last backup and applied all changes that happened in between. -
Just moved to a new phone, (Wileyfox Swift 2) and noticed that my settings (by which I mean the dark theme) weren't saved. While it's unlikely I'll be switching phones again in the near future, I think it's unlikely people would use different settings across devices, so could settings be automatically applied when signing in? @dfox

Hello fellow germans devranters! I study Applied Computer Science (dual) in a big telecommunication company at the moment. But I found out that almost every IT related things (programming, configuring servers, databases whatever) are outsourced, we only work on project plans, project specifications or such things. But that is something I don't want to do my whole life. Are there still some big companys in germany where these IT related things are still made here?

Applied for an internship, they gave me a test which was pretty hard for me and I didn't finish completely and properly. I spent almost 2 weeks on it until I was too behind on uni work. They offered me a position, and I negotiated terms. Now they tell me their human resourcing plans are going in another direction and won't accept me. :''''''''(4

Well, there was some urgency but no deadline as a it was a personal project. I wrote a job hunter that applied for everything I had any kind of shot at

I am working on this Flask web application as a part of the recruiting process for a company I have applied to. There are so many mysql connectors out there, but most of them are either deprecated or have shoddy documentation. Finally I found one that was working, but it used
caching_sha_password2 as its authorization plugin which is no longer supported by MySQL😤😤😤6 -
you might have watched The Matrix 1, 2,3 & 4 how do you feel the concept and the story to be applied to our existing life?16
