Manager: This button is too dark, you need to lighten it. Have you no sense of design?
Dev: …
Dev: Hows this for an adjustment?
Manager: Wayyyyy too light now, jesus you need glasses if you think that’s good.
Dev: …
Dev: How about now?
Manager: It’s close, make it just a little more dark. God why does this have to take so long, do I have to hold your hand through this entire process!
Dev: …
Dev: There that good?
Manager: Yes that’s perfect! Send me a PR immediately so I can approve, we need to get this out ASAP, it’s critical!!
Dev: I can’t.
Manager: ????
Dev: There’s no diff, you had me gradually adjust the colour back to exactly what it was originally.
Manager: THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE IT LOOKS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME LIKE THIS, I HAVE A MEETING I NEED TO GET OFF TO BUT WE WILL BE HAVING WORDS LATER ABOUT THIS INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR.

Recruiter: This is a 100% remote position
Dev: Good! That’s what I’m looking for.
Recruiter: But the company does require you to come into the office “on occasion”
Dev: I live 5 hours away from your office so that would be not a good fit
Recruiter: And once covid is over the ability to work remotely will be getting reconsidered. You’ll likely need to move cities in order to continue your employment with them.
Dev: Yeah I’m looking for 100% remote work
Recruit: This is 100% remote! Just with the need to come into the office sometimes now and potentially more later.

Oh boy!
Time to apply for dev jobs!
Good thing HR is fair and just!

"I'm sorry but you're not qualified. The programming language we use is listed last on your resume."
Welcome to HR Hell ladies and gentleman.2 -
So I have implemented all the features required for the current release. Carefully reviewed my code several times, but no testing.
Tester: everything passed green. Not sure whether you're a good dev or I'm a bad tester.
Me: let's call it a draw.10 -
Interviewer: So are you familiar with our company and what we do?
Dev: I looked at your website, looks like you build tools for managing restaurants.
Interviewer: No. That’s not even close.
Dev: ?
Interviewer: What we do is create an ecosystem of integrated data centres all orchestrated for immediate stakeholder utilization.
Dev: But the product itself…. it’s a user interface for tracking inventory. Of like…. burgers…. and bottles of wine.
Interviewer: It’s not a product! It’s a data……habitat!!
Dev: …
Dev: So does that make your users animals?
Interviewer: 😡. Unfortunately it looks like you do not see our vision and would not be a good fit for this role.
Dev: Agreed.27 -
Interviewer: For this next code challenge you will not be allowed to use the internet, or an IDE.
Dev: …
Interviewer: OR a keyboard OR a mouse. I will be verbalizing the code to you and you need to memorize it and tell me where the bugs are.
Dev: …
Interviewer: We must do this exercise to know how you are as a dev without any performance enhancing “aid”. This way we can understand where you are truly at skill-wise, and what you are truly worth from a compensation perspective.
Dev: …
Dev: If I get a job with you will I be allowed to use the internet and an IDE and a keyboard/mouse?
Interview: Of course you would! Getting anything done without those is just about impossible. We just need to evaluate you without them to see how good you REALLY are.
Dev: …20 -
Fuck any dev who thought playing sounds automatically on a webpage or on a mobile app without user's consent is a good feature. Especially when you don't even include a setting about it.
Yes I'm directly swearing at any devs from Instagram.10 -

GUYS I GOT MY FIRST JOB, I'M SO FUCKING PROUD OF MYSELF (not a dev job, but I'm still in high school so anything's good enough for me)15

I just got handed a legacy php web project... Full of vulnerabilities... And it's using only mysql_ functions... Not only it's not OOP, there is not even a single class...
How good it's coded: User profiles are created manually by the frontend dev as htmls, and then the past php dev implemented them as links etc in the current page.
This is how I feel:5 -
Conversation I just heard
Manager: How's everyone doing?
Dev: I'm actually really tired. I've been having trouble concentrating and reading. I think I need a vacation.
Manager: Oh but that's good. You see, the brain is like a muscle. Today you lift 30kg, tomorrow you lift 40kg. So you will be able to handle more and more stress as you progress. That's great.

Interviewer: We keep having devs take off for other opportunities after a short period of time. We need someone loyal who will be sticking around for the long haul. Dev: Like Poker? Or Joker? 🤡

Couple years ago, in an Indian web dev company I worked at, the management decided it would be a good idea to ask all employees to "justify their salary" and submit their answers via email.
(You read that right)
70% workforce submitted their resignation the same day, resulting in the HR (who came up with this idea) getting fired on the spot.
Good times.8 -
Project Manager: Hey Gid, we need to start migrating project-A to the new Server.
Me: Okay, I will inform Dev-Q.
Project Manager: Please do and treat as top priority!
Me: Hey Dev-Q, we need to migrate project-A to the new Server and we need to get it done asap.
Dev-Q: But I'm currently working on some critical bug XYZ which PM wants fixed before COB.
Me: I dunno maybe you want to speak with him.
Dev-Q: I was told to...
Project Manager: Yes! we need that done right away.
Dev-Q: What about the critical...
Project Manager: No! treat this as top priority the client just called.
Dev-Q: Okay.
Me: Any update yet?
Dev-Q: Yep but it seems like the database is quite large and the migration may take a while.
Me: Okay take your time.
Dev-Q: {hours later} Pheww done! All files and database migrated successfully.
Project Manager: Good good. So the critical bug XYZ was also completed and migrated to the new server right?

Our lead dev in the company seems to be a smart guy who's sensitive about code quality and best practices. The current project I'm working on (I'm an intern) has really bad code quality but it's too big an application with a very important client so there's no scope of completely changing it. Today, he asked me to optimize some parts of the code and I happily sat down to do it. After a few hours of searching, profiling and debugging, I asked him about a particular recurring database query that seemed to be uneccesarilly strewn across the code.
Me: "I think it's copy pasted code from somewhere else. It's not very well done".
Lead Dev: "Yeah, the code may not the be really beautiful. It was done hurriedly by this certain inexperienced intern we had a few years back".
Me: "Oh, haha. That's bad".
Lead Dev: "Yeah, you know him. Have you heard of this guy called *mentions his own name with a grin*?"
Me: ...
Lead Dev: "Yeah, I didn't know much then. The code's bad. Optimize it however you like. Just test it properly"

I just realized that my fucking boss managed to put a back end dev to do front end and a front end dev to make an api.
So me and the front end dev are constantly asking each other stuff instead of doing the fucking job properly because it isn't the subject that we like/spend our free time learning.
Although I understand that its good to have some "full stack" knowledge I also understand that my ui/ux is gonna suck while his api is gonna suck :)5 -
Fuck web dev.
I dabbled in many areas but I do web dev most often. And seriously: fuck web dev. Your site has to work on multiple browsers. Multiple screen resolutions. The code has to be tiny for load time. The images have to work for every resolution and still be small. The styling can look different in different browsers. So many useful javascript features are only supported by modern browsers. An on top of that: IE.
I’ve gotten quite good at all of this, but still: it’s such a fucking pain.10 -
I write blocks of code like this:

I'm trying to fix a bug and the previous dev is doing it like this:

It’s sooo weird.
I’m generally not feeling happy or good or “okay”, I’m almost always rather shitty but just keep going through my day without complaining too much because that’s what most of us do..
Today, for the first time in at least one (very lonely, cold and boring) year, I went outside for a smoke and felt good. No idea why.
Everything was orangy/yellowish outside because of the clouds after the first sunny day in weeks.
Its raining slightly but not so much that you actually get wet.
I just had this feeling of “yea, that’s good enough” which I haven’t had in probably 4-5 years or so.
Maybe it’s because I got a little bit of sun for once and saw other people walking 2m around me, I don’t know..
But it felt good.
Does that feeling sound familiar to anyone or am I just finally going crazy?
I also apologise for my last 50 rants not being about dev or rant but I’m lucky to not have much to rant about in my current job 😅10 -

I'll repeat what I wrote in an answer in another rant because I think it made a good story (I just realized it after writing it :p) :
I met a guy in my school who was the best of the school : I mean, he jumped over the first two years of the school (and he started from scratch, he never had programmed before).
I went to ask him how he got enough motivation to make all the two years projects in one and he told me something that made me understand why he was so good : "I'm fucking lazy, so when I code, I code something that I would use for a very long time, tools that will be useful in next projects".
By doing this, all he had to do in end-year projects was to assemble what he already had done to make the program. He had perfectly working tools that were awesome. So, he never had to work more than 10 hours a week after doing this.4 -

Because DevOps in a lot of organizations is really “help desk for clueless developers”, conversations like this happen a lot:
Dev “hey the thing seems to be not working right”
Me “what does that even mean? I need you to be a good deal more specific. What thing. What isn’t working?”
Dev “I dunno”
Me “Are there error messages?”
Dev “yes”
Me “….would you like to share them with me?”
Dev *sends error*
Me “ok did you actually read this error message?”
Dev “yes”
Me “…so you’re good then? It says you’re trying to use a variable that hasn’t been declared yet. You should fix that. “
Dev “…”
Me “good luck”13 -

A question for all the front-end developers of devRant. How the fuck do you get a really good color scheme for a website?
P. S. I am not a front-end dev so please simple words17 -
So, we’ve a small UK based dev team, we follow good practices and get good results. But ‘they’ want to deploy quicker (it was suggested we skip the test phases...) but don’t want to invest in more staff.
So their suggestion is to outsource development to Bangladesh and have us in-house devs work on discovery and innovation.
I’m uncomfortable with this as it feels they are thinking they can get quicker and cheaper dev done abroad (which I hate as it feels disrespectful to my fellow dev brothers n’ sisters).
Also disjointed as in my experience planning and dev’ing work best when you can talk face-to-face.
Thoughts?4 -

Even though I bragging about how good my few projects are to the people I talk to them about, I undervalue my worth as a developer.
Even though I am desperate for money, I've only recently started trying to get work in the dev community (with little success) because I actually feel that I'm not a good enough developer..17 -
Today I was writing Selenium tests and was struggling to find a good way to test a text editor. We did a weekly code review and my team lead rewrote the test ij 10 lines to generically handle all cases.

It‘s just amazing how much a proper type system and a modern language makes refactoring a good dev experience.3 -

When a dev says that he's a really good programmer in his CV/Résumé he usually actually means that he's really good at browsing stackoverflow4
-
I was being interviewed by a tenured Java Dev for a position of android Dev in a big company. it was a glass walled cubicle, and I could see in the reflection that he was browsing stack overflow and asking me the questions. My answers, although correct, didn't match with the accepted answer in stack overflow. sigh. felt good to be rejected.1

I still wonder why people go to programming classes thinking a dev is paid a lot. Not all devs are paid a lot and it takes passion and hard work to be a good dev. Don't just go there for the money. You'll regret wasting your life.4

My biggest dev regret was that I've followed other people's dream.
I lost precious time into trying being the "good kid" for my family and support them in their time of need.

This last year has been really good. First job where I am only a dev. Learned a shat ton about modern C++. So 2019 would be my fav year.
However, I think my favorite moment as a dev was when I realized I could go anywhere I wanted as a dev. That small amount of inspiration when you realize, given enough time, you could recreate the universe in code.
At that moment time became the enemy of ambition.1 -

(I guess the Question category is the best for this)
Do you believe that someone can be a good dev even if they write shit code?
I personally do, if that person acknowledges the fact that their code is shit, wants to improve it, is humble, is always in the search for constructive, etc as in to make their code better and more readable, I'd think they are a pretty good dev.2 -

When you don't know if you should start a developer tutorial channel. I have a good mic, 4 years dev experience and good editing skill. Should i?10

web dev agency makes a job ad that fits exactly my skill set.

Last day in the office. I started remembering good old memories. Felt nostalgic and doubted my new job as they were not giving rise as per my expectation.
Then, my manager comes up with his divine improvement in the good working site (not for me but for other dev).
I felt sorry for my fellow mates and started praising my new job.1 -
Me: here is my idea with the code. Does it follow what you had in mind?
Dev lead : this is good...really good but if you could take everything you have here and make it a reusable module that would be great!
Me: so it is or isn't what you had in mind?
Dev lead :: it is but I need you to change it all.
Me....FML -
That moment a non dev friend wants to get into web dev and ask you want he needs, you give him a list with 5 languages, 20 libraries/frameworks to use, 8 tools, 25 devices to use to test and a letter saying "Good luck learning all of that"1
-
Show 10 lines of code to a dev.
Dev: It could be improved here and there, it can be optimized way better etc.
Show 5000 lines of code to dev.
Dev: Looks good!5 -
I start my first mid level dev job tomorrow after securing a job on a 10k pay increase. Feels good man,my junior days are over ^=^2

When a fellow dev doesn't use their Thunderbolt Display because the resolution isn't as good as their MacBook Retina display. Kids these days....1

I was in a good mood until I read this weeks dev-question. I'm now having an existential crisis. Why do I do this? What's the end goal here? I don't know what my biggest dev career dream is. Maybe I should get a dog and live in the mountains. I think, I need another moment...7
-
I feel like there should be "dev recruiter" position that people with developer skills could fill. Every time I go to an interview, I just know the person asking me dev related stuff has no fucking clue about anything I'm saying, it's printed all over their faces.
A good developer almost instantly knows if you know your craft or not.
Let's not keep wasting everyone's time -
Google cloud platform.
1. Great documentation and support
2. Good free tier & dev freebies
3. Cloud console + SDK rock
4. Did I mention the great documentation?
5. Seriously the documentation ❤ -
I heard in one dev podcast saying "Know everything about something and something about everything". I think it's very good moto in your dev career and general in life3

What the best database solution for web and smartphones dev?
Is mysql the good choice?
I’m an “old” dev with old usage, php-mysql-JavaScript.
Is it a 2018 solution or am i a dinosaur?
All data will be stored on server side. Web and smartphone app as client.
Thanks for your experience sharing.6 -
One day at the office at whoever built Laravel

Dev: ok... So our devs will use mysql, we can use sql quer...
Boss: dump them all too, again, we will make our own functions that dont look anything like that
Dev: we can also use standard...
Boss: NO STANDARDS! Creare every single php method or sql query in another method that does the same job... -
Did a wireframe walkthrough and a fellow dev ask, "Which language is the app written in?" "Visio, exported to PDF ..." Guess it was a pretty good wireframe.1

So how on earth is Strict MVC good for web dev. A variation of MVC works well but strict principles no!!!5

Is there a dev who knows a good webpage to get started with kotlin and spring?
I've searched a lot but can't really find something good. So I'd be very happy :)
Thank you7 -
Do you consider good appearance in the dev world important, or at least necessary?
(just want to hear ideas)4 -
What's the best dev-related book you ever read?
I've sure I'm forgetting some, but I'll go with "Don't Make Me Think".
Thought I might see if there's anything intriguing I've not come across yet.4 -
Take me into the organization as a dev
tell me that I'm supposed to bring ideas and tell you how to improve and what's required
I do that
You ignore me
You expect ultra performance and good profits
GO FUCK YOURSELF7 -
Did I really go to university, have object oriented programming taught to me from scratch and embedded in me as best practice, work with OO frameworks for 3 years and become a damn good web dev just to use Drupal?7

Why does everyone screenshot a Tweet, instead of using a perfectly good app 'Tweet2Pic' being available on Play Store.
P.S: I am the dev, shamelessly promoting my app. I am not sure if I can share links here 😅3 -

I think a good path to dev education is if you are interested in it as a teen and try out coding and keep failing. Persistence and interest will bring you farther than just going straight to uni/dev school.1
-
After 2 weeks of ranting I have honestly ran out of rants.
Either my life as a dev is too good or I'm clearly not coding enough.
The later seems more plausible. -
I started iOS app dev thinking there’s good scope in the future, now I hear people saying app dev is gonna die switch to data science. Tf6
-
Really loving all these Udemy sales and humble book bundles, a lot of is for programming and some of them are actually really good!
It's a good time to be a Dev! -
What would be a good dev burial?
I'm thinking somehow represent my ashes in binary, commit my testament and have my loved ones do a git push.11 -
My first job was at an e-learning firm, and I was a part of the team that made the digital content.
The team had a really good spirit. Often too good, as our team manager often gave up on us and left our weekly status meetings because we were all just joking and having a good time.
Still, we usually did an OK job and delivered on time.
Those were good times. Now I'm just a single dev without a team in a pretty large company. Luckily, I'm away on paternity leave atm.2 -
I dreamt about bugs this night. Not software bugs, but actual bugs, like a centipede that enjoyed attaching itself to the inside of my palm and such... Not sure if dev related or not, not a good dream either way :/5

Dev: Please let us know when will be a good time to make a DNS switch for launching the site?
Client: ok

Client: one hour later, hey I did a DNS switch to your server but the site is not there?!
Dev: (Fuck me running!!) fuck fuck fuck fuck and fuck my life! -
So it seems Mr. Bean has still got it :)
Anyone have a good Dev meme for this shot? (He's looking at a fat guy with 2 young girls in his arms.)8 -
bug comment in the tracker, from the new junior dev, during her first week:
"probably fixed by [other dev]".
Among the unhelpful comments, this was a special gem. really special. a What the Fuck did you mean by that special. Was it fixed or not? who fixed it? [other dev]? someone else?
it was better not to have any comment at all.
later that junior became a really good dev... -
HR: "you are the highest paid dev on team"
Dev: Then not just me, the entire team should get a hike 🥴
HRs are hired because they are good negotiators.

Front-end dev is on holiday and I have to deal with this.
188 lines of Less overriding default Boostrap styles, plenty of those god awful "!important"s.
I switched to CSS-in-JS for good reason.2 -
The dev before me stored all the emails and passwords as plain text in the database. This is not good. Not good at all.1

Me: *ranting to my friend who isn’t a dev (but is in IT and a good knowledge of networking) about a problem I came across in my project.
“I don’t know how I’ll send folders”
Him: “just compress it before hand and decompress when it’s sent”
Me: *mind fucked*
Have any of you guys gotten surprisingly good ideas from non programmers?10 -
Worst dev experience: Started vim, could not escape, had to get a new computer... 😐
Just kidding, everything was good 😜 -
A non dev has no right to pass judgement whether a dev is good or not. Be it engg manager or a product manager or any other manager6
-
I feel like front end guys and gals are basically the folks that make the back end guys and gals look good for the boss. Not in a straight dev shop, but when your boss thinks html is a programming language...3

Be good at speaking! I've landed 3 dev jobs, without any formal education, merely because I'm good at talking. Bigly good!3

Could a freelance dev let me know how they find clients? Not just the ones from sites online and such, but the good clients, 3-4 month projects, proper prices?4

Does anyone have any good podcast to listen to about programming? Preferably anything related to web dev but anything is welcome5 -
how do you tell a junior dev on your team there code is shit and please don't push to the main codebase without approval first,
without crushing them and and sounding like an ass cause there a good person just a n00b developer8 -
So turns out android Q got the first Dev preview... Come on Google, you can turn material design 2.0 around and make it look and feel good, I believe in you!!!!
(Material design 2 is what I imagine Fisher price creating) -
Problem of a beginner dev who's looking for a job:

So I just started learning programming specifically c# cause that's what my dev uncle recommended for beginners. I hope I can meet interesting and good people around me :)14

Any Ruby on Rails developers here? I‘m an Angular Frontend-Dev and want/need to learn RoR, especially for backend development. Any good books/tutorials/resources?8

Is GoDaddy any good? I've seen that Google has opened .dev domains floodgate and I was wondering about starting my own page. Dunno which hosting service to choose and if I even should make my own website considering I'm not a Web Dev 😅19
-
Dev bootcamps? I went to one! Probably the best decision I ever made.
They aren't perfect, they're pricey, and they won't make you an expert, but it's a good way to expedite a new career, gives a good base knowledge to start out. -
Sorry if this isn't very dev related:
Does anybody know any good freelancing websites for artists, illustrators, ui/ux designers, etc. ?
I've seen upwork, but they're so uptight they don't accept everyone.5 -
I thought it would be a good idea to name my dev blog after a common runtime exception. I started looking up un claimed domain names. I guess stackoverflow.com is taken. Next idea... indexOutOfBounds...?12

What do you think about weed & dev instead of - or even with - alcohol & dev?
BTW, I just noticed this (2 hours ago! I didn't know there are limits, which seems like a good idea..). I deem it obligatory to share. It's also the reason I'm asking 😁10 -
Is it a good idea to start learning Python? I'm a PHP dev but I really want to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. Moreover, I think as a PHP dev, I don't really have a future.4

Client and ex-Dev/manager wanted automated testing.... manager doesn't see a reason for interfaces... Still wants unit tests, and a SOLID design. Doesn't want to pay for the extra time needed. Good times2

Which smartass frontend dev thought it would be a good idea to put a cancel button just over the captcha button? Or the website just isn't responsive...4

As a junior dev, i really appreciate these wk58 rants. Every time i begin to doubt my abilities, i get some insights into the work of past geniuses, and i feel like im doing pretty good for a rookie

Biggest dev ambition:
Be good enough to:
1. Get featured: press or App Store
2. Win Grand Prize in Google Code-In (trip to Google HQ)
3. Win WWDC scholarship3 -
My best and worst dev experience this year was getting a new job.
The bad parts: I’m inheriting a code base that was maintained by an outside agency, so there’s very little documentation. There’s a lot of systems maintenance and upgrades that have to be done because it was never done. I’m working at a larger organization, so tracking down who I need for info can be tricky. I’m the only person maintaining my code base.
Now the good parts: Better pay and benefits. My co workers, dev and non-dev, are always helpful. Since the dev team is small, we are very discerning when we pick up work for the websites. I have more independence to self-learn. I’m not at a blame culture. My role is permanently remote.
So far I think the good outweighs the bad.2 -

This year I started watching animes 😅.. and watched 30+ anime. also got hobby of editing anime clips just for fun and it turned out.. good. I got 500 subs on YT and 8k on snap 😹. good time pas when not doing coding 🥱1 -
Any good resource for dev related news/blog posts?
It would be nice if you can filter dor specific languages or topics. -
first experience with ios development and ios designer with xamarin.ios..
as an Android guy, I find yhe way apple make building UI too disturbing and not helping dev to do the job more fastly.

Monster Hydro sucks. Why did I think it would be a good idea to try this instead of an actual Monster?5 -
I'm starting to think that I could listen to some podcasts while I work, to learn things in the background.
Would you recommend good podcasts?
I'd like to listen to software dev good practices, or real life dev stories to learn from. Also videogame dev related would be good too.5 -
When you get brought into a new dev job and the lead tester says "oh good, the junior bug boy is here"... Not sure if he thinks I'll be squashing them or making them...

Why did the devs think it was a good idea for the iPhone to have the flash go off as a notification, I feel like the person opposite me was having a strobe light show5 -
Ok, OnePlus nice fucking job!
I receive all of my notifications even during night and I lose around 4% per night - this is almost iPhone level!5 -
I know I can't be the only one of us that listens to dev related podcasts. Does anyone have any good ones they'd like to share? I'm looking for something more entertaining than Software Engineering Daily, yet more informative than MS Dev Show.1

I love commitstrip comic. There are others like Dilbert, devhumor, turnoff etc. Some are not continued now like Programmers life, which was also good. Which are your favourite comics related to dev?4

I am in love with Electron JS.
Started Programming with Desktop development(Visual Basic),in my high school.
After a detour of trying Gamedev,Webdev, several frameworks, feels good to comeback and try Desktop dev.

Exercise and sports are good ways of relax and get some discipline. Writting, either blog posts or simply for yourself improves your communication skills. On the communication side, I've specially noticed that I improved by doing talks (dev and no-dev) even if it wasn't for and audiance of more than 30. Games also helped me with problem solving and management. There's a lot a stuff 😅

My badass dev moment was when I read a valve white paper on text rendering and implemented a dynamic text version of it in webgl. That white paper was about signed distance fields and how to hack the alpha channel of an image to bake in some font smoothing data.... Holy fuck that felt good. Oh and it looked good too!1

Job Interviews and technical tests...
Why when interviewing for full stack Angular(typescript ) / C# do they expect devs to be as good at C# as a 100% dedicated C# dev.
Why do they expect them to be as good as a 100% dedicated jQuery/pure javascript dev when 50% of the job is for Angular/typescript. WTF?
Full stack devs typically are constantly jumping around between tech stacks so they're always "working it out"
You hire a generalist because you want a generalist. Don't interview and test them like they're 2 specialists combined into 1.2 -

So essentially I got into dev to break shit and make peoples lives miserable. Good times.2 -
Let's say you're pretty good frontend dev, a bet geeky about strong typing. And you're paired with an API backend, and it's PHP. You would think it's pain when it's bad PHP. No, real pain is when it's good PHP, and backend dev embraces and uses dynamic nature of the language to an extreme.3

Having an argument about "empty" function in php.
someone told me that we shouldn't use this function because this is deprecated and doesn't work on php 5.3.
He has this opinion because once we took a site live and there few conditions broke. And they were like this " if ( empty($this->input->post())"
While I was trying to tell basically it wasn't empty fault I used it wrong, because the docs says nor its deprecated neither it'll break if we just use variables in it and not functions.
Argument ends up in "not getting any reply" :/ -
I got an interesting quesrion. People asking me why i started programming and i realised quickly.. I started so never had to deal with people and fast forward a few years i got the opposite, only difference is. I found like minded and good people that love what they do and I am glad with that, maybe abrupt but in my mind, good decision.
So in the end, thank you all regardless of your upbringing, past and where you are in your career. You're the reason all of us actually find comfort in talking to people. Where it be rants good or bad

So I've been looking at web dev job apps recently and reading over some of the requirements needed and almost every company advertising for a web dev is also wanting a web developer who is also a 10/10 web designer... this proper irks me as after doing a course which helps you ease easily into the web industry being a competent designer wasn't a requirement.
Why is it that to be a web dev now days you need to be also good at designing?1 -
So my former dev decided it was good idea to write a native module for our react native project, so that every time we call our api... we have a pass through the RN bridge.

Probably a good idea to collect some social skills there, as that's nothing that is required or learned with my dev job -
Which YouTube channel is good for beginning to learn arduino?
P.S: I'm a web dev without iot knowledge6 -
Clearly Appcelerator & Titanium. I still can't understand why the previous dev decided it was a good idea to launch an app with that 😡1

Firstly give me the skill equivalent to the best in the field. If the rules allow it all of these skills listed and if not any of these :-
1. Computer networking to the point of having the same knowledge as the best in the field. Why? I am curious about that stuff and being able to work as a network engineer if I don't get a good Dev job
2. Cyber security. Why? I enjoy it and being able to make sure my code is not easily exploitable is a cherry on top. Also having a backup job in case I don't get a good dev job
