Favourite Programming Quote - Whats yours?
"A computer is a stupid machine with the ability to do incredibly smart things, while computer programmers are smart people with the ability to do incredibly stupid things." - Bill Bryson26 -
Finally have the home office I've always wanted, with only a few more things left to do in order to consider it finished.
Power company loves me.
Wallet hates me.18 -
Yesterday I said: "My code was nice and well organized but then I started to do the things the customer wanted. Now it's horrible and ugly."3
-
How do you politely tell someone that constant conversations about progress slow down progress?
Not only do I have to stop for 30mins to explain what things I've changed, but now I have to rant about it on devrant.3 -
Telling people I don't need GIT and prefer to do things via FTP for years. That is till today when I accidentally deleted everything.
sudo apt-get install git16 -
DevRant works in china! 👌🏼
Honestly though it's been quite fascinating watching the great firewall of china actively filter most things I try to do.7 -
Don't want to go back to work and code, there's much better things to do; Like stay at home and code instead.3
-
Never ever do two or three nice things with css, they'll call you the css guy and you will have to do all their shit.5
-
I normally don't post silly things, hoping I can restrict myself to only do so on rare occasions #shortweeksilly3

Development is a team sport.
If you think you can do something better but your team doesn't understand it or can't work with them. You have two options: Teach them or don't do it.
This task seems easy but teach and tell are different things. Prepare to repeat things over and over again and give up your own time to share the knowledge.9 -
Best way to avoid procrastinating: the sooner it gets done, the sooner I no longer have to think about doing it. When I have a bunch of shit to do, I start with the things I like the least, and save the more enjoyable things for last.5
-
That moment when you have things to do, but instead you're learning 4 new languages because they look fun.2
-
Micromanager: “@Root, you need to do <thing>! It’s important, and very unprofessional if you don’t. Bad things can happen if you don’t do the thing. You need to get into the habit of doing the thing.”
@Root: Already does the thing.
Micromanager’s boss: Doesn’t do the thing.
Micromanager: Doesn’t do the thing.
Team: Doesn’t do the thing.
Micromanager: “You need to work on your reputation, @Root!”16 -
3 off the most dreadful things to do as a developer
1) Documentation
2) Testing (Multiple device/browser)
3) Wearing formal clothes7 -
I can't relax watching Silicon Valley because they have such a stressfull life that it reminds me of all the stressfull things I have to do.6

How do i save a Word document?
How do i convert it to a pdf?
What is a pdf at all?
How to put all those things on a usb?
Why is this Pc not working?
I should start to charge by Minute...8 -
It's great to hear the boss telling someone that your code "saves time" and "makes things easier to do".
Write good code people. It pays.1 -
Frankly if your a dev that doesn't push yourself. I wont take you seriously.
Experience levels range greatly! You have to be mindful of that to.
I push myself with every project looking for better ways to do things
Doesn't mean you can't have fun whilst you do it 😉4 -
Me: "We should do X!"
Client: "I think Y would be better."
Me: "If you're sure..."
Client: "I'm the one paying you!"
*much development time passes*
Client: "We should do X. Isn't it your job to think of these things?"
Me: "..."4 -
I hate father's day.
Reminds me of 2 things:
1. My father is a fucking asshole.
2. My ex wife makes it damn near impossible for me to speak to my oldest child. State seems to do the same shit ever other state does to mothers that do this: nothing, zip, nada.
Fuck today.7 -
Do people really realise that developers have become the back bone of society and alot of things will go south if they were to leave
But noooo they choose to call them the weirdos 😢14 -
I'd like to tell a story about a friend I once knew. She was good at her job, but only her job. People loved her so much, but when the people got interested in things other than her job, they took her with them. She was forced to do things she couldn't do as well, and all because people couldn't change. She feels overused, overworked, and she still tries to keep her head up. People need to stop using her.

FUCK YOU WINDOWS. HOW MANY FUCKING HOURS DO YOU NEED TO 'GET THINGS READY' ? IT'S BEEN 5 FUCKING HOURS ALREADY 😠 Even a woman doesn't take that long to get ready!2
-
My code is always a battle between best practices and what I assume would be the most efficient way to do things4
-
I realized I've need a hobby other than sitting in front of the computer all day.
What non-developer things do you love to do? :)39 -
I'm someone who' s productive so I get things done earlier than expected, so then I get time to rest. However, when the managers see me resting, they always think that I'm "not doing my job" or "idle" or "doing nothing" so they always ask me "what are you doing?" or "you've got things to do?".
From now on I will just pretend that every f*cking easy task is worth 1 week to do.15 -
A computer is a stupid machine with the ability to do incredibly smart things, while computer programmers are smart people with the ability to do incredibly stupid things.2
-
Anyone work with other developers who take 3 times as long as you to do things, spend all day talking, get nothing done, so you have to pick up the slack? Fucking annoying.2
-
I want to do 3 things in life:
1. Learn new technologies and don't work at all just learning.
2. Play video games.
3. Eat without getting over weight.10 -
Our boss has a camera in the office to "monitor" us, the developers.
He tries to monitor our movements and record the things we say.
I'm curious, do other people do this?
I find it annoying.23 -
Man how do you skinny devs keep so skinny? I'm not even eating fat things and I'm nearing to light obesity... Is there a patch that I missed? apt update says it's up to date?20
-
"iOS Development is easier"
Yeah, right? There's no dropdown, no checkbox, no radio button, no placeholder for multiline textfields, ...
Motherfck!
You have to manually do everything yourself and lay things out in their messy slow Xcode. Apple doesn't include important things only because they have randomly decided not to include them! Fuck this job.6 -
I’m not going to “automate” us out of a job ! *eye roll* We just shouldn’t be doing things a computer can do AND do faster/more accurately!1
-
You know what I do when I get upset or depressed?
I put myself in bed. I guess some things from childhood don't change.
Having a tantrum? Time to go to bed.3 -
Me: okay brain! We had our morning coffee. We're ready to work. Lots of things to do today.
Brain: yay! I feel unstoppable! Can't wait for logic problems and amazing things we're going to build! What's the plan?
Me: great! Today we're going to work on the ios implementation of our app. Where should we start?
Brain: ...
Me: brain?1 -
My coworker doesn't know how to use a terminal. He talked himself into his position and instead of taking the time to learn about the basic commands he keeps asking someone else (including the teammanager, who's actually a software engineer) to do things for him.
For reference; we need the terminal to tail log files, keep track of processes, cron jobs, manipulate file structures, use scp (I use sshfs) to move things between other workstations and servers etc. Being able to use a terminal is one of the basic requirements for our job.
What.
Why.
How.
Why do people do this?2 -
Windows:
When things go wrong, they fix themselves.
Linux:
When things go wrong, it's easy to fix them yourself and make sure they don't happen again.
Mac:
Things usually don't go wrong... but when they do, you're screwed 😲4 -
What is one supposed do when their boss says things like "Your UNCLE passed away, why do YOU have to go"?5

I used paint to do it, Did not have space to install PS

The never ending struggle between my need to do things the right way and the way client wants them3

To be honest I have no problem with procrastination. I love programming and there are few things I would rather do.4

A little back story:
A dev who left already implemented a system and modeled the data like he doesn't even care because he was going away in one month anyway.
This sucker here inherited the responsibility to remodel this fucking clusterfuck of data.
I was trying to do a good work here until today but some things came to my mind :
I don't care.
They don't care.
Fuck it.
I'm gonna do the same shit and the next person can suck ma'dick.
I have better things to do.
Look, I'm gonna do a lazy job that is gonna be a million light years better than what this sucker did anyway.1 -
Literally no work to do. Learning Ruby to fill the time. Forgot how fun it is to learn new things!4
-
So my co-worker refuses to use Interface in Go because he dislikes php and interface is "the php way to do things". Anyone with experience dealing with this kind of ignorance?14
-
Broken app's cousin (they do similar things are share devs) is now broken again too.
On two calls at once. Yay.
THESE PEOPLE NEED TO BE REPLACED4 -
Current status: i should have gone to bed hours ago and there are other things i need to do, but right now i'm compiling ffmpeg in a docker container10

Riding along on a demo is the worst thing ever.
-Customer clicks buttons and things happen-
Customer: "Hey that's cool!"
Customer is now happy and excited.
Sales: "Hey would you like it to also.... "

Colleagues improvising themselves "Evangelists of everything" but continuously asking me how to do things.
Now you can go ask there.1 -
I avoided answering this question because I had no motivation to answer it.
That explains things huh? I don't know how to deal with low motivation. I just try to let it pass which never happens. Or switch to other things I'm more motivated to do.13 -
Apple app signing and certificates: how do people even circumvent/hack these things? I'm hardly able to do it legit.4

PHB wanted access to our team chat room where we do standup, among other things. Access granted. Immediately a new chat room was created.2

Site scheduled to go live at 9:30. It's 9am and I've just been handed 3 hours worth of things to do on it. #FML2
-
Just had a User asking to recover something from her Deleted Items folder which is where she puts things she wants to read later. Seriously! I thought this was a joke but people really do do this! The clue is in the name: "DELETED Items". Aargh!1
-
Boss: "how is the project going? When will you be finished? It's not that much to do right?"
Me - I'm stuck in my spaghetti. Not even started to implement things - fuck3 -
Getting up at 6:00 probably starts to please me. It's been three hours and I've done most of the things today.
Do you prefer to get up early or sit at night?9 -
Shadow clones like Naruto. Would be able to have jobs, do personal projects, learn things, and have a social life.
(Recurring dream)3 -
Linux is so fun to use!! can anyone give me some cool things to do with it ... things that fuck my pc up would be appreciated😂😃23
-
Been asked to do things out of my area, like print stuff, make videos, institutional document guides, etc etc etc1
-
I wonder what "eligible" means. "The few people who learn anything in this program..." I can't wait to write the copy for my school. "100% of students who turn out to be good at things - will do things well." haha.1

What I feared is happening.
I will barely see my gf for some time (until summer).
I just feel like crying, wanting to do a lot of things with her, barely getting to do so.
On one hand, I have a gf, on the other hand, fuck my life for worsening good things that happen to me.
P. S. if any of you fuckers unironically complain about the fact that I have a girlfriend (and you don't), go to hell22 -
Today I was trying to convince a colleague that:
fun example(){
if(thing){
//Do something
}
}
Is stupid because it should be
fun example() {
if (thing) {
//Do something
}
}
It's the small things that are the most frustrating14 -
Does anyone else feel like they're the smartest, most experienced dev on the team. And there's like a huge gap between your and everyone else?
So you have your own work and things you want to do, but end up spending a lot of time helping or fixing everyone else's whenever they get stuck?
So in the end you can barely get your own work done and never get any free time to do the things you really want to work on/learn?10 -
Today I decided to quit my job as a web developer.
And so I did..
NOT!
April fools. I'm still working all day without time to do or learn new things.2 -
Girl (trying to turn things on): people from my country are great in bed.
Guy: what data points do you have ?
*Girl walks out of the room* -
Think before you do. Both in life and while developing it'll safe you time.
You should also try not to overcomplicate things.1 -
Question: is it common to a developer to have lots of tasks to do at the same time, so you don't have sure what you need to do first, specially when you have 2 or more urgent projects?
That is one of the things I most hate on managing.8 -
What do you do to procrastinate? For me, it seems to be coding...
I've been coding for the last 2 hours but I should be doing other things...7 -
Why can’t you just make a document with the description of the things you want?
Why do you feel the need to send me fucking voice notes over 9 min long?2 -
Do you live alone? Do you work hard and barely have time to do things?
Please tell me how you eat 3 meals of healthy food. If you do of course..9 -
Things to get done by wk200:
- Finish B.Sc.
- Do Intership at Intel
- Get M.Sc. Scholarship from Stanford.
I know it's a bit big, but you have reach for the stars.2 -
Mom: hey I can't get into the phone, the PIN and PUK aren't working. See if you can fix it otherwise you'll have to go to the communications company to ask for a new card (my mom is working and can't do it)
Me: //gives it another try. Doesn't work. Searches online. Yep, can't do anything, it needs a new card
Me: sorry mom, you have to get a new card, there's nothing I can do.
Mom: OK
Me: why did you ask me for help, again?
Mom: well because you can do things and fix things and so, and I thought that maybe you could fix it
Me: 😑2 -
Since there is Scrum i am programmer , tester , software engineer , networking guy and application manager. Thank you Scrum didnt know that before. And i have no idea what i am doing right now ....2

I do wish that we could have a dev dating site. Why? Cause I cannot give my girlfriend enough time and then she gets moody and then this leads to breakup.
Now I have to freaking choose between her or code this is bad, bad.
If we devs get dev gf she knows how things work and things would work out16 -
Some things should be prohibited! Such as trying to look smart luring geeks with PHP code. That does not do what you wanted to do in the first place. Idiots!4
-
Is anyone making more money than what they're spending, saving up and having time to spend on a side project/hobby?
I really like programming, but I also want to be able to do other things. It appears that it can be a job that can make one comfortable financially to be able to afford to do other things. Way better than working for McDonald's or some other job.
Is anyone doing this now? Or is everyone working all the time and always stressed??3 -
lol I just saw Devrant Wordpress plugin to integrate on website. As per my experience many people here do bitching about things. Why would anyone wants to add those on website
-

Using Windows.
So frustrated. Do people use it to get things not done? Or do they use it to annoy others?23 -

Behavioral economist. If I can't make computers do what I want, I want to figure out how to make humans do things instead.
-
This happened at the beginning of my first job:
Me: I want to clarify some things that wasn't specified in my task. I want to see if I need to do them and how I should solve it.
Senior dev: Don't worry about it. If testers pass the task back to you, then you do it. Just do as it is.
Me: 😓2 -
So what say guys, switch to linux forever, and bye bye windows?.
Or is there anything i should know before i do this?.
Things i cannot do in linux?

Summer starts now!
Things to do.
1. Get better at overwatch
2. Learn 3d modeling
4. Learn animation
5. Learn how to apply programming to animation to make the process quicker
6...do job bc I need money.5 -
My productivity has gone fucking low.
I have hundreds of things ti do , Prepare for exams, write code for my internship project, write code for my game, learn new things about ML,etc.
But all I fuckin do is play games all day instead of making mine!
Plz help, give me some words of encouragement or tell me something that you do to boost your productivity and keep away from distractions !6 -
One of the hardest things on the company Slack is knowing when to STFU and let them do their own Google search.1

concious inclusion training: we want you to talk and share about a bunch of shit that's illegal to ask in interviews: age, sex, orientation, family status, religion, values, gender identity, ethnicity etc
what the fuck do any of these things even have to do with the job?
im confused but whatever6 -
Dont get me wrong I like C, but I've never seen so many different ways to do things where I cant even tell whats fucking happening in the snippet of code.11
-
do you guys think it's dangerous territory to do something you weren't asked to do at work?
like, i know i can improve some minor inconveniences, but they are not the priority. on the other hand, we always have a bigger problem and the little stuff gets left behind. idk, i just want to leave things better than i found them9 -
Boss asks me to come to work earlier, "there are a lot of things to do". Came earlier. Productivity is now really low because I'm tired.1
-
Worst part of being a dev? Probably that there aren't enough hours in the day for me to do all the things i want/need to do...
-
I';m officialy spending 30$ / day on cigarettes.
And average of 20$/day on beer.
Where do people find motivation to stop these things lol ?!
A lot of money here xD27 -
Anyone do me a favour. Curse at me, and say the worst things to me, my critics.
Not some soft shit, pampering bullshit, say some harshest shit.20 -
Software engineering isn't a great side-career if your aspiration is to do other things.
It takes way too much of your time to let you do anything else.5 -
Git is good. Even when I do stupid things like reset a commit I wasn't supposed to, it gives me the chance to fix those mistakes.
(Oops. !rant)1 -
Despite having programmed for quite a few years now, for some reason I keep thinking the filter function's predicate needs to be true for things you want to exclude, not things you want to include...
catalogue.filter(i -> i.quantity < 1)
was what I just tried to do when I wanted to fetch all the items still in stock... Why am I like this?15 -
I'm currently trying to get better at python and to learn django. And here I am, following a c++ course I found on safari books.
Really, sometimes I don't know why I do certain things...2 -

What is something I can complete in a week (let's say 30-40 hours) as a newbie (I made an android app, played around with engines like unity and unreal here and there, tried some c#, and I always mess around with the linux command line, my RPi, etc etc)? I'll start working in a dual-studying job ('applied CS') in 2 weeks so I'll have enough learning-without-doing to do. I just want to learn something by doing something useful (e.g. a small android app that I can put ads in or sell, or maybe provide something for free that people like. I don't want to write my own engine( that'd take very long anyways) or make a compiler because I feel that'd be kind of useless and even though it'd probably be fun, I would lack initiative.5 -
Being able to learn the basics of many languages so that I can do things the fastest way.
Because the Dutch national railway uses fucking XML for their api5 -
You know these things that are obviously coming but you do not want to do them at any cost so you just keep on pushing them away?
Well it looks like I'm going to be homeless in January...1 -
I'm a fullstack dev, but this is coming from the point of view of frontend work in Rails 7. I'm using jsbundling-rails. I tried to get importmap to work, but that was fool's errand.
I absolutely love the module system in modern js. I love how closely it resembles the way python does things.
npm isn't the meme I was led to believe it is. I also don't need things like toString.js, so maybe that's why.
I also love using flexbox. It's so straightforward and I don't have to rely on hacks to do basic things.
Where have I been you ask? Over my head in paying work that never gave me the chance to update old but working code.
jquery and Bootstrap plague me from when I built these things years ago when they were needed to get things done quickly. My skillset and the technologies available to me have also drastically improved, allowing me to do things with fewer libraries. -
Everyone talks about quality, but they don't know what it means/ don't want to invest the time to do things right.2
-
How do you know when to quit working for a particular company?
When you quit your job, what are the things or factors that tell you that that's the right time to do it?

Assertequals("Fail","Fail") in the catch block.
Things developers do to bloat their test coverage at my organisation,

Management sees green1 -
Oh well, glad it's not a wk98 rant, just annoying to install and sync the data, this time I am going to do a full image backup after installing the basic things1
-
Fucking hell it pisses me off when you go to so much trouble to streamline processes, set up systems that improve workflow and solve issues, find better solutions and show how they make life easier... and people are like "yeah nah let's just do things the same old shitty way we've always done things".
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻5 -
How do you deal with the learning curve frustration?
So, as a software developers we need to learn things frequently. But when we start, we have a lot of things to cover before we call ourselves average on that subject. Before this stage, there is a lot of frustration, stress, anxiety etc. How do you people handle it?6 -
By trying to do my best. Doing a good job makes me feel good and gives me even more motivation.
Also by trying something new every time. Either by using new library, new approach do to things or whatever. Just to keep stuff exciting. -
The things people do...
Let's add a virtual tamagotchi to vsCode.
VsCode pets anyone?

I just want to like fucking push all this shit out from my desk and throw things I'm so angry right now i can't seem to start what I need to do today like I'm fucking paralysed
And shit seems to be happening like ghosts, literally things falling when I haven't even touched them pc being really fucking loud etc1 -
How about a Git for Databases?
Do your changes, delete things, create things, and then when you are sure push these changes to your server.
If you did something wrong like accidentally delete fucking everything, just revert and everything is like before again.
Also you can view history and blame people for doing something wrong.
Tell me what you think about this. Not clue how you could implement this tho... Also I have enough to do already so feel free to take this idea!10 -
I love how I watch a tut for a specific problem and then go down to the comments and see ppl say things like, "Awesome, dude you saved me hours. Now, can u show me how to do, this, this, this, this and this?" 🤦🏾 I'm like, bruh, u can't figure out how to do at least one of those things on your own??? 💀2

Users have use cases, test cases, user manual etc documented material with them at the time of UAT.
But in the end users do only those things which they don't suppose to do..!! 😑😥1 -
Started working with the Fish Shell, liked it pretty much until I had to write a shell script!! Things are so different from bash/zsh. Now i need to learn how you do things in fish.
Fuck you Fish!!:/7 -
I keep being called a "melt" by my mates, cause I say odd things .. cause huge geek 😅 or I'm just odd
Aren't most things better when they melt ... Melted cheese? ... Oh ice cream ... 😐 That's not better 🙄 ok.
Sorry I do use devrant to get things off my mind to total strangers -
Ok. that made a full circle.
I needed for ONCE to manually do git things.
(There is a plugin in V which wil lrecompile SCSS to CSS if CSS file is deleted, I want to comit delete).

Linear algebra is a hammer that actually works well on things akin to a nail when wielded right. Do you have a similar wildcard that works everytime you try it?2
-
Things you can do while npm/yarn install is running -
- Take a nap
- Go for a walk
- Read something
- Check social media
- Listen to music
- Watch videos5 -
I dont like programming languages where "there is more than one way to do it".
There should be one way to do things, it makes it easy for developers to understand code others have written, it makes it easier to start working in new teams etc etc.23 -
That is strange. I have become developer at 27. Well, I 've decided to become a developer, to be honest, started to learn C++. I have tried lot's of things before: sale things, play bass guitar, copyrighting, driving a bulldozer. All reactions towards my choises was negative, and descision to become developer, programmer was like: "ok, do it"4
-
Had an idea for a Webb app tonight that I could use to test some new things out. Didn't get round to the new things but 3 hours later I do have my IDE set up, quarter of a billion npm modules and a gulp flow so complicated it feels like the file system is a rubicks cube...

Be interested. Try to do whatever you're doing the best way possible. Do research, keep up, roll with the punches, and don't take things personally. If you like being a dev, it should be easy to find the fun in it.
-
Do I want to go into research or industry? I must only answer which is funnier "PhD Comics" or "CommitStrip."
This is the way to decide things.2 -
What do you do to relax at work when things get heavier and life feels more stressful?
I kinda need ideas 'cus I'm tired and I tend to get grumpy and mad. :(1 -
Is it just me, or do Adobe products just get progressively harder to use? I'm thoroughly frustrated with trying to figure out how to do simple things like annotating screenshots in Photoshop, like I used to do several versions ago. All these damn options and non-intuitive names for things and crap scattered all over the UI. I just want to draw a friggin arrow and wrap red text in a nice box with a white background!!!

lets say I have managed to hack over 100 PCs (not powerful , all in the same building)
what kind of things should I do to them ?
*mining bitcoin is out - those computers are really bad*6 -
Sometimes i feel bored of developing but i wan't to, i don't know how to explain this feeling. Do you guys sometimes feel the same ? Like i have a lot of things to do, i would like to learn new things but when i launch Unity for example i feel lazy, bored of it.
I'm stressing about my further carier, will i feel the same and so, stop developing as a job ?
I don't know if i'm the right post subject, and sorry for my english btw.2 -
a deprecation *warning*. we IGNORE warnings. if they actually want us to do something about it they need to call it a deprecation error. and also probably prevent compilation. virtual smoking coming from the emulator wouldn't hurt either. if they expect action on these things, they're going to need to do better than warning.2

Do you know what is both a good and a bad thing about old tech like IRC ? vs Slack, Twitter, Facebook, Email, etc for socializing ?

Coding taught me to be patient, understanding, and accept my mistakes.
Don't blame the computer when things are going wrong; it is just doing that it is being told to do. If you acknowledge that you might be to blame too, sit down and have a calm conversation with it (debugging joke😂), things will be alright. -
My dad didn't actually know what it was I did. He wanted to get me into hardware and network security type things. Basically the kind of things network engineers or systems admins do. I am still not sure he knows what I actually do.3

Wish everyone could understand that it's not learning the programming language or the 'best practices' that makes you good it's understanding how things work together and how to mix them to create new things that do what you want is the real engineering2

My JIRA fanatic manager: log whatever you do during the day, even the smallest things are important. and you have all the material needed for next day's standup meet.
me, on a particular tuesday:
had lunch
peed thrice
bitched about an unreasonable bug raised by the testing team
listened to Rihanna's song Diamonds
had four mugs of coffee
, among various other things.
next day.
manager: so, ssup?
me: eh, didn't do much yesterday. was one of those down days I guess.
Guess who was asked to write "didn't do much yesterday" on all the JIRA tickets assigned to him? -

I fucking give up. I can't debug my code, and all my programmer friends have better things to do than to help me. The fact that portaudio requires me to store things as void* makes it even more convoluted if possible.3 -

Hi friends of devRant. I'm looking for some advise.
I love learning new things(tech). I want to try out a lot of things like crypto, game dev, AR/VR, etc. I'm also a student and worried about my career. You know you just can't keep exploring technologies and not focus on a single track. Currently, I'm good with web dev. It feels so difficult at times. I hate leetcoding/competitive programming. So you can guess I'm not great with whiteboard interviews. How do I manage time to learn new things and also be able to land a job in a domain? Do you ever feel the same? Any career advise?5 -

A peer told me today that if I wanted to get better at my job as architect, I needed to focus on building things so they could be handed off to another team when they got too big for my team to support.
He seemed to take exception to my assertion that we DESIGN things on PURPOSE to not need to do that.
I guess I need more training. -
My advice: simply code and work out things on the fly.
You will maybe need to rewrite something, but thats ok. The more you do on the fly, the better!5 -

Everyone on my team now seems to to agree with everything I say about things we should do.

Until the old Dev left this team, I never had to handle any of the website end of things. Now he's gone, I've had to look through his code, and Jesus Christ I didn't know you could be hired to do things without knowing what functions are. It's just long strings of PHP includes.3

Why so many weird frameworks and libraries? these days I study so many frameworks and install things and I am actually overwhelmed. Sometimes those things conflict each other and end up messing up my PC. Do frameworks and libraries make dev environment fancy? I am not sure, to me it seems that things are going messy. Please give me fresh perspective.2

What do you use to plan and organize the managerial side of things ?12 -
When I lose motivation I either try to do other things or just sit it out while trying to force myself to work on projects, sadly it doesn't work sometimes

Everything that isn't code drives me nuts. Like build scripts? How do those even. And I always find myself fighting against my IDE to do simple things. And how do I use a debugger? Println statements only take me so far.

Why do they demand 12-month goals when we use Agile Methodologies?
If we do it right, we don't know what we are working on next sprint, let alone 12 months.
Our goals are to work on the highest priority stories. We are not to work on stuff "in the background", so how can we have any long-term goals?
The only things we can plan are outside of our actual jobs (like conferences, training, pilot programs/hackathon projects, etc.) So the only things we can review at the end of the year are not the most important things we do.
Poor managers love numbers and checklists to hide behind.2 -
1. Only thing where correct logic doesn't backfire at you.

I like how classes are getting more interesting and challenging But I don’t like how I don’t have time to work on my own projects. I have plans for them and I know where and somewhat how to do things. But between classes, homework, things teachers ask me to do, TA work, and medical issues I don’t have time to do my own thing anymore so GitHub is going to show massive spots of inactivity making me seem dis-interested in things not school related

One of our previous clients is not paying the rest of the payments after receiving the codes. What are the things we can/should do digitally to make them pay the payment?
btw, it was a web app. we worked on the front end and the backend of the app. So, naturally we know all the API endpoints, we have the database access, and so on. So yeah, we can do so many things.
But still I wanna ask you guys, what would you do to make someone pay?3 -

In this time of the year is a tradition to spend time with the family (they expect you to do) but I have to do other things (e.g. my project).
So I have to balance those compromises... I kind of feeling that one of both is a time waste... can you guess which one?
How do you spend this holidays? Any tradition in special(unique)?
