Boss: You'll need to make the presentation an hour earlier than usual. There'll be 20 people attending..
Me: Sure. Will everyone show up?
Boss: Oh yes, they'll show up.
*Reschedules other work at home*
*Gets 4 hours of sleep to wake up earlier*
*Prepares material*
*Shows up for the meeting 5 minutes earlier*
*Crickets chirp*
There literally wasn't a single person there. Everyone shows up at the normal fucking time and good old boss was 2 fucking hours late.
Guess what the presentation was for? To solve the fucking issue of why stuff never gets done on time and nothing works right. I think I might have a tiny fucking idea why, at this point.9 -
This blew my mind earlier today. It can actually draw not only itself, but literally anything. For more info watch the numberphile video on this formula.10
-
Boss - gives tasks to me. Timeline: 10 days.
Me - work hard and finish the solution in 3 days.
Boss- wtf is this. Do it properly.
Me - chills for 15 days. Submit the same earlier solution after that.
Boss - yes this looks nice now! Much better than your earlier work!
Me - dude seriously what kind of stuff do you smoke before coming to work?8 -
Do not ever develop a project for family or friends.
It's the fucking worst decision you will make.
Damn i wish I knew this shit earlier.
They make you become an asshole.8 -
I may have received the best email ever all these years (and a year as a Lead).
A client acted as a boss telling me to "work this weekend to finish the project a little earlier"
Enjoying my cereal so far..11 -
Hey everyone,
Unfortunately earlier tonight some code was deployed with functionality only compatible with the new version of the devRant app that will be coming out early this week. It caused some weird issues where normal rants would be rendered as collabs causing them to not show up correctly.
This happened when going to rants from the feed (fixed earlier) and going to rants from push notifications (fixed a little while ago).
If you notice any of that behavior still occurring please let me know, thanks!
Apologies for the weirdness and missed notif activity for those who were impacted.7 -
Suddenly my KDE neon installation didn't want to start anymore. (emergency recovery shell)
Immediately searching for solutions, praying for the best...
Saw a suggestion about removing any custom /etc/fstab entries. Removed an entry i added earlier today.
Boots again right away, fuck yeah, Linux, I fucking love you ❤︎4 -
This is me.. Earlier this week... At work 😂 when we get tired of coding or get stuck, we take a swim... Or just go home 😂9
-
I just moved to linux from windows . Now I regret

I should have moved earlier ;_;19 -
before programming class:
"yes easy af, imma finish this in a few minutes"
during programming class:
*types everything in 10 mins*
*compiles and runs perfectly*
"wtf this isnt supposed to happen"
*spends 30 minutes trying to find the bug*
"fucking hell, it should fucking work by now"
end of programming class:
"oh i put int instead of float, good job, my time was wasted because of one fucking word"9 -
Finally got a 200 response back from the server! Woo!
I've spent two days trying to get this to work (see my earlier rant). but yay! finally working!
So I log the response body just to revel in its lovely glow.... only to notice an error message saying "INVALID_INPUT".
WHAT THE CRAP.
200 FOR AN ERROR RESPONSE?
COME ON.4 -
Earlier today, after helping a team mate with an issue, she ask:
"How come you already know the issue even though that's not your code?"3 -
Hi guys, I'm new here, discovered devRant randomly by browsing only. Bit sad I didn't knew about it earlier.
Greetings from France BTW 😄7 -
I just almost shat myself.
I altered the wrong database table column...truncated data we are required to keep for government compliance.
Luckily I had exported that table earlier today and was able to recover it all. I'm in need of a very strong drink right about now.12 -
I would really like to use Atom. If it managed to start earlier than a woman getting ready for a date.10
-
Not getting into linux/foss an dumping windows/other proprietary bullshit earlier. The friends I've made through this world, the passion, the ideology behind it...
I fucking wish I'd have found out about this at a way earlier age or even begin raised with those values.8 -
> git commit -m 'fixing what I broke earlier'
> git pish
> git: 'pish' is not a git command. See 'git --help'.
Did you mean this?
push
> you know I meant push, why can't you leave me alone and just do it13 -
Installed Ubuntu Linux on my cousin's PC... Age 12... He starts earlier than me... :/
But I'm proud of him :)8 -
I just started using git. it is unbelievably useful. What an idiot I was that I didn't start using it earlier. I LOVE GIT!3
-
I downloaded an API. Said API requires Java. Said Java version is 1.6... you can no longer download 1.7 or earlier versions..
RIP.12 -
Why does this keep happening.? Earlier I thought its a one-time thing but now-a-days it has become more frequent.6
-
TMW you're asked to arrive one hour earlier at the office, so it can look "busy and innovative" to investors.
Some of us are just the toys very rich people play with.3 -
I wish I started using intellj for java so much earlier.
I can't begin to explain my hatred for eclipse.10 -
What kind of dumb fucks are making these job application forms, initially I thought asking my “sexual preference” was weird but then I saw these !!!!
How does my earlier financial condition or what my parents did when I was 14 help my job application when now I am 28 !!
The fuck8 -
Just now I was compiling a new kernel for my laptop because the last ones were from before my rootfs became LUKS-encrypted. Then I found that option about SELinux again.. NSA SELinux. A MAC system that linuxxx praised earlier. Should I tell him? 😜8
-
This morning I got up a little earlier, and managed to make myself a proper cup of coffee in my favorite cup4
-
Me:
- Few days ago: Orders thinkpad
- Now: Checks email
- Sees shipping email from lenovo
*YES! Earlier than expected ship date by a full week*
- Opens email
- Package only contains the additional charger that I had ordered, I can't even use it without the laptop
*facepalm*4 -
me : *leaving 15 min earlier*
manager : IT'S UNACCEPTABLE, HOW CAN WE BUILD A TRUST RELATIONSHIP LIKE THAT
manager one week later: yeah we need you to work till midnight if needed today. You cannot say no.
me : ¯\_(ツ)_/¯8 -
I have a request for anyone that manages a project.
Please don't reschedule a demo to be earlier than the original date without talking to the developers(s) first.
That is all. Thank you.2 -
I heard my phone go 'buzz buzz buzzbuzz buzz buzz buzz buzzbuzzbuzzbuzzbuzz b-b-b-buzz buzz' earlier.
It was funny because it scared the shit out of my cat.8 -
I worked 76 hours in a row once, when I first learned Laravel.
I wanted to see if I could clone a site I created 10 years earlier that took 2 months.
I succeeded.
I took copious amounts of Adderall, though.
I don't recommend it.2 -
Went to a small place for lunch, they had a TV that I think was playing sports earlier, but at some point it switched to a YouTube Playlist and started playing a Javascript tutorial on geo-location haha
-
Instead of just accepting my proposal about upgrading the server - the customer I have ranted about earlier decided that it would be a good idea to try to install PHP 7.0 on a Debian 5 machine.
I feel horror when I read the bash_history3 -
So it's December 31st. Also my birthday, but no one is going to celebrate it. Wish I could revert to an earlier version of the program to when people were happy to celebrate it like, friends and family.14
-
Boss giving a me a lift to work cause he wants to start work earlier since our ad revenue plunged during the weekends. One fucked up day coming up.3
-
Boss came to me earlier
Boss: There's a critical issue with this release version for this project. Make sure it doesn't get deployed to our test/live environments!
Me: ...
Me: ...
Me: Err, that release went live 3 months ago... -
To all kids that are leaving Github only because the "big bad corp) bought it:
Why did you not leave earlier? Github was good being closed before23 -
PM: Your code bombs! It’s supposed to put a link to the schedule here!
2 minutes earlier:
PM: *runs code with malformed data and two cancelled schedules*2 -
I have to do 3 hours of offline coding for a job interview.
Started my Windows VM 30mins earlier:
"Updating Windows"
Now at 33% and the mail describing what I should do comes in 8mins.
Yeah. 😡7 -
There are people who say that devRant stickers arive when you forgot about it. They came earlier then expected (that's what she said)
Thanks @dfox and @trogus3 -
Earlier I was viewing my HTML document, but when I opened it this popped up. Musdguest is the name of my school's WiFi, and this kinda looks like the source code for my school's website...?6
-
Finally some user facing change on @Wikipedia
#PagePreview
Shouldn't this have come much much earlier?7 -
Usually, when I'm in the mood to code, my GF will tease me by sending a lot of text messages at once.
When I'm not in the mood, she had slept earlier :-|3 -
Because MS is dropping support and updates for Windows 7, I finally decided to install something else! Wanted to do it earlier, but I was clearly to lazy to do it.
I choosed Ubuntu, I know a lot of you hate it, but it is the one i'm used to, and i didn't want to search too complicated25 -
My tab key now requires a harder press than it used to earlier. STUPID MACBOOK. This minor inconvenience is a really major annoyance.10
-
I think I'm already blind. Or the liquor ate a chunk of my brain cells.
I just realized that devRant web version has different accent colours based on avatar's bg colour.
Earlier I realized I have disabled show hidden files feature on my file manager and thought there was no .htaccess file.7 -
Ignorant, stale old Dev I work with discovers huge bugs with a new project. A few weeks earlier I had brought up the fact that he does zero unit and behaviour testing and got basically laughed at.......
-
Used hashmap instead of arraylist for 13000+ entries and fetched it from hashmap. Earlier used to take 1500ms to execute and now only 500ms.. First time, optimization of code for which i can see the difference in real world.. Its a good feeling.
-
Got a busy day today so last night I went to bed an hour early to catch up on sleep... Woke up an hour earlier this morning.1
-
I opened a ticket earlier with my automated ticket script, and saw its number, so I couldn't resist.
-
I had defined a variable earlier, 'count', that I was trying to access later on in the code. Kept getting errors that the variable didn't exist.
When I looked, I had actually named it 'cunt'.
Best typo ever, gave me a good laugh as opposed to the usual annoying typos in programming.1 -
The intern: FUUUUCK, WHY ISN'T MY CODE WORKING?
Me: Lemme check real quick... ok, that's a null pointer exception.
The intern: Again? Man, I'm growing desperate. How do I stop making these errors?
My dumb ass with my 4 years coding experience, who encountered a nullpointerexception literally 5 minutes earlier: """"°-°""""11 -
These bloody form designers.
I was filling in this form earlier and there were some fields which were not marked mandatory so I didn’t fill them in (because why should I ?)
And then later, I received a dozen automated e-mails one for each non-mandatory field I did not fill asking me to provide them that information.3 -
The moment when a client asks to make a website responsive which was developed in earlier 2000. You open the code and its using HTML table structures.4
-
Ok so I was talking to my computer science teacher earlier and he said that he would rather use vim over PHPStorm for creating a laravel project. WTF!
Normally I would be cool with it, but he has pushed faulty code to git over 8 times. I'm just done.8 -
I can't believe I haven't looked much earlier for an updated github dark theme with support for different syntax highlighting
https://github.com/StylishThemes/...11 -
Taking several years before doing dev work as a full time job.
I really should have just dove in earlier.
Plus I always wondered what I would have gained from getting that shiny piece of paper (degree), but I guess I’ll never know. -
Today I decided sleep earlier and not to code late night , But when I checked time It was 12.20AM. And after that I was just checking rant, It's 1.00 AM now..☺😁2
-
WTF, timezones...
How is gmt+12 2018-04-19 02:00
But gmt-12 is 2018-04-20 02:00...
Here in gmt+1 the 20th starts one hour earlier than in gmt..
Time travel? Relativity? Rick? Illuminati?
I‘m confused..14 -
Went to hackathon
Earlier Thinking :- C language is father of all
Now :- Python is Godfather LOL ☺☺☺7 -
HOLY FUCK (!dev) SOMEONE KILL THE MANAGEMENT OF DEUTSCHE BAHN ALREADY
Seriously where can I complain? delays on every single train i was on since weeks. and always because of some stupid shit like "we need to let another train pass by". wtf you didnt know that earlier?15 -
As a college student, best part of being a dev is when there is no class, but instead of being happy for going home earlier to do whatever like everyone else, my happiness comes from being able to stay late at work, and put that project to roll.
Only developers can feel that. -
Apple really needs to add a "Deceased" tag to its facial recognition system, I just had a "memory" appear with a full 1:30 minute long video of my Grandmother who passed away earlier this year with "extreme" music in the background1
-
interviewing a guy earlier on... apparently jQuery is better because it can do things javascript can't
-
Terrible Dutch (!dev) tech pun I just came up with: (posted it earlier under the rant section but removed it due to that)
Wat moet een AMD CPU doen als'ie op vakantie gaat?
Ryzen.11 -
Java 12 is here.
Why so many releases now.
It was good earlier, years taken for next release.
Atleast we could update our resumes properly.15 -
I know I'm only an intern. But what in the actual sideways fuck. Are clients really this stupid?! They want to push the app into the app stores a week earlier AND add MORE functionality? FUUUUUCK ME.2
-
Set my alarm 25 minutes earlier to check out this awesome thing called devRant. Before I start my day. 😎2
-
After at least half a year of using a computer that froze or crashed at least every 10 minutes I finally replaced the faulty stick of ram.
Now it works beautifully and I'm dissapointed in myself for not doing it earlier.1 -
I saw someone rant about XML earlier, but truly the thing that puts me on the edge is XSLT. Who invented that crap.7
-
I’m sorry for my earlier rant (deleted). It was obnoxious and offensive. I was rude and stupid on a galactic level.
I was having a bad day. Cheers!7 -
I feel like we've had a similar group rant earlier.. is it just me?
Anyway, more frameworks. During the time it took me to write this, I bet that at least a dozen of them popped up already :')5 -
I hope this Never happens to anyone :(
On a serious note, Microsoft is talking away all the permissions earlier we use to have during XP.4 -
Woke up an hour early today.
I could get up and be at work early, so I can leave earlier to use the afternoon on this nice spring day.
Or I could go back to sleep because I'm still a little bit tired.
-> Scrolling through devRant an hour and a half. -
I mentioned earlier that I did well in a tech screen. It was 2.5 hours long.... Now they want me to do another 2 hour interview. How am I supposed to find a job while working without getting fired? ? ?2
-
!rage
*PM 6 months earlier: "Do whatever u want with this lib, your softw. will use it."
*PM today: renames main public function names in my lib - used by about 10 processes of mine.
*Me: (╯°□°)╯︵┻━┻2 -
I just started commenting my code. I know, its horrible i havent done this earlier..
I actually enjoy it now, i can express rage, write small jokes for myself to read next time i gotta edit the code, or just remind myself how fucking stupid i used to be11 -
Xcode 11 only 7.6GB
Earlier it was 4.7GB
New innovative bugs added or a finally good enough IDEfrom Apple?9 -
Tried to figure out why my computer was being slow and lagging earlier. Thought it may have been a bad update to the kernel I recently did, or an update to a package.
No, it was chrome and its horrible memory usage.7 -
Read all questions before starting the test......
#3 is just SimpleDateFormat with some text cleaning.... Easy
#2 was the hardest....
I ran out of time... should've given up on #2 earlier....5 -
Told by boss earlier that my job description should be changed.
It should be cook or chef, as I'm making spaghetti inside my editor.
He argued it could be risotto as well7 -
Not only coding, but studying Computer Science has changed a lot in my life. For example, learning about CPU scheduling algorithms made me manage time for my personal tasks a lot better. Earlier I used to waste a lot of time by doing tasks in out of sync order. Also coding made me realize how dumb most people are!3
-
I got pissed of earlier today cause apparently no ES6 minifier was available on the VS Code Marketplace. We'll, now a few hours later there is one.
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...5 -
Sales team came in earlier this week promising a client an application with several major modifications in less then 4 months. Guesstimating about 6 months to complete all the modifications.
Manager's answer: "Let's rewrite the application". Top it off he wants to use a obscure language that he only knows.10 -
Have higher technical schools with computer science as one of their topics (such as the one I visit) introduce people to how RAM works in detail earlier than in fourth grade, which would really help some of my classmates.2
-
Fucking Windows 10 forces me to install 'creator's update', messing my morning in which I got to office earlier than normal to be more productive! I really hate Microsoft's products.9
-
My condolences are with this ranter:
@potata https://devrant.com/rants/1480188/...
Client:"We absolutely need to support browsers from earlier then 2010!"
Me: -
Found this while getting dog food at the feed store. Turns out https://reddit.com/r/CrappyDesign/... found it earlier this year. Because I didn’t see the GNU notice, aren’t they breaking it?1
-
Flex + CSS grids is awesome. I know I am late. I regret not realizing this earlier. Way earlier.
Someone who does not agree with me please read this: https://css-tricks.com/snippets/...4 -
Taking charge of an existing project...
Me: "This certificate requires a password. Can you send it to me"
Other dev who was earlier responsible for the project : "Just use the default one"
Me: " And what's that?"
Other dev: "CHANGEIT"! All caps
Me: 😐 -
I recently discovered, that Python is much better tool for scientific calculations then MATLAB. If only I had figured this earlier, my studies could be so much easier...2
-
Started reading The Art of Computer Programming. Really liking it so far. Trying to get over my brain’s natural reaction to math of entirely shutting off and finding an excuse to do literally anything else is hard.4
-
my line manager & my line managers line manager had a 10 minute heated argument earlier, right in front of me, about what work i should be doing
i still don't know what i should be working on5 -
So, seen this when I just arrived at work earlier this week. Made me think of COD. 😂 We hear them frequently flying over us all day.
-
Been playing Skyrim a lot lately. "research" I guess. So any abbreviations and the like I think of TES or Skyrim related lore. I saw a post on devrant earlier that mentioned DB. My first thought was Dark Brotherhood. So this meme was born:2
-
earlier today i had 6k+ unread trash emails. now i have exactly 1 :)
unemployment is actually very productive8 -
Every Monday I am privileged to wake up 1. 5 hours earlier and listen to executives talk about what meetings they had with potential customers and what news about ongoing agreements with other potential customers (which have been in the pipeline for 1 year or more sometimes)
Why is this necessary?? There has been virtually no progress on any of the topics discussed. At least nothing that concerns us devs.
Instead we get to wake up earlier, waste 1 hour, and get bored listening to what essentially seems like a sales speech while convince the employees the company is not spinning its tires while stuck in the mud.3 -
The problem with daylight time saving is it also gets darker earlier....
And well work hours don't get shorter... Just means now after sitting in an office all day, I now go home in the dark.
Who exactly is saving on daylight...
How about we also cut work hours as well...3 -
Been sick all day, got to work from home. Kid goes down for a nap, my wife leaves to run her errands. Finally starting to get into my groove after blah-ing most of the day. So of course my kid decides to wake up earlier than expected. :P2
-
So trello is down. I need to see my tasks so I know what to work on...
Now, I just reload trellos page every 2 minutes... Bored...
Earlier today it was my bank that was down.
Good day.3 -
So I got a call earlier today that a letter from the US arrived for me. I can only guess what's in it.1
-
My director sends an email every morning asking team members to close their tasks at EOD.
Every. Fucking. Morning.
Like dude, we got it the thousand times you said earlier! Just stop doing that now!9 -
I was happily folowing a tutorial earlier on setting up an email server but the site got taken down for maintenance just as I reached the last step...
IT'S BEEN 6 HOURS NOW AND IT'S STILL NOT BACK UP.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING AND I'M GOING TO BREAK SOMETHING AND BE SAD.9 -
PC crashed while in the middle of a build, "ok, shit happens". Reboot, pc is super sluggy (a BSOD kinda does that, I guess). Reboot again and I check the event logs...I didn't find the problem, but at least my pc is sorry for whatever it was doing earlier.1
-
I fucking hate everyone who sends me a voice message, Just text me motherfucker how can I find some info we discussed earlier, you want me to listen to all your stupid messages with your lazy ass voice to only find the shit I'm looking for.3
-
Had a tech interview earlier today.
👨💻: What mocking framework do you use the most?
🧔: Smoking framework???
👨💻: ...
I guess either he needs to improve his skills or I have to polish my English 😂6 -
Needed to update one column in table A with data from table B (huge table).
Created awesome update query with join between the two tables.
A few hours later realized all data in table A is already being imported from table B in a query executed earlier in the process... -
So i left my job as an android dev earlier (nothing big, just didnt wanna juggle school and work) and as the year started i noticed that somehow i ended up working as an android dev again but this time in c#. There's no escape.9
-
Starting my first real dev position Monday. Scared about using a windows computer for dev for the first time but stoked.
My rant is against myself that I didn't switch jobs earlier.6 -

Next goal: 200++'s to get the stressball.1 -
Returned to my desk earlier and guess what, someone fucking stole something from me. How dare someone fucking steal my tictac! 😑😑😑1
-
When you debug a piece of code for a good half an hour and then realise you forgot to change the name of some variable when copying code from earlier bits.3
-
when having a bug, instead of trying to prove, that you did everything right, start proving that you were wrong.
Then you'll get the yield earlier and you debug more efficient. -
After finnishing all functionality defined in koncept our boss said that we should write some unit tests.
Wrote first one and already found 2 bugs.
I guess we should start with tests earlier 😅😷3 -
I wonder if jetbrains will change my licence expiration date to a day earlier.
I get kinda depressed every time I open one of their products.
*Sigh*1 -
So the free WiFi at the Paris airport CDG bugged out for me earlier. Since it doesn't allow you to sign out, I had Schrodinger's WiFi as the login page said I'm connected but I wasn't (nothing worked).1
-
Doing home office today, so I started to work 1 hour and a half earlier than usually. Where is my daylight, Munich?!?!4
-
I left on vacation only to realize I pushed an old build to production. It now throws NPEs.
I don't have a computer, just my phone.
I'm regretting not going to bed earlier yesterday.1 -
Social interactions. Made me realize what people expect from an application. Earlier I didn't have end user perspective and used to design complicated GUIs with too many technical words. Now I make simple and easy to use UI with instructions that can be understood by non-devs too.
-
Boss asks me to come to work earlier, "there are a lot of things to do". Came earlier. Productivity is now really low because I'm tired.1
-
What Google services are you still using? Earlier this year I made a conscious decision to avoid Google services if I can. I successfully got off gmail and gcal. Because I have yet to find viable alternatives, I am still using:
YouTube
Voice
Gboard
Android
Maps
Music
Home
Fonts (on occasion)27 -
My mum was programming at high school. It was COBOL, but she never used it again. So thats how she lost every sense for programming. Even like 2 months earlier, she thought I am just playing games and watching videos, but then we finally had a talk and she understands now. I am happy.
-
Is Vue worth learning compared to react and angular? I have absolutely no experience with either one but was looking at Vue earlier and got curious3
-
A friend of mine stayed over and had to leave early. Idiotic as I am I set the alarm an hour earlier than necessary. Now that he's left there's no way I can go back to sleep again, so I've had plenty of time to track translations in p5.js, while my GF's sleeping. Aaah, aren't weekends wonderful?2
-
I propably mentioned it in an earlier rant but my father was a programmer, my grandfather was a programmer, and thus my son shall be too.10

Why do corporate douchebags keep hiring fucking cheap ass local hardware companies? What is this mysterious fucking attraction they have towards shitty IT?
My fucking phone literally has more RAM than my work laptop. I want to go home earlier just so I can get some actual work done on my non retarded personal laptop. -
That moment when you fixed that "unexpected feature" just by adding one line of code.
I wish I had noticed it earlier... -
Start it earlier in education or at least give the option to students to study it earlier in their schooling. I wasn't able to study it at all until my final year.1
-
UI design android
Back in college we were taught the principle of KISS (Keeping it simple stupid) and experienced it first hand today.Been struggling with a layout design from our designer and had cursed him a lot earlier.
Turns out I only needed few attributes:
android:clipChidren="false"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal" -
In your earlier years. Try to work in a startup. Don't go for corporate life yet. You will learn hell of a lot in a small startup.
And also if you are doing job hunting just spam the recruiters and top officials of the company in LinkedIn until you get an interview setup. Because fuck it you need a job !4 -
I personally don’t mind the wave of “back to the office” as long as transports costs are added to my income and I can start 1h30 later and leave 1h30 earlier.10
-
I regret not finishing all the personal projects I started. Then I would have had at least something I could have put on my CV and gotten a job earlier than at 23.
-
Earlier I used to say "I am good at throwing and catching." After learning Expcetion Handling in C++, now I am saying, "I'm good at throwing and catching EXCEPT in C++."

Some people wake up at 6am but i wake up 2 days earlier so i have 48 hours of free time ahead of all of u so suck my shock6

Earlier today I spend 3 hours that included a nap and cleaning the house to try to clear my head and figure out why my Unity multiplayer code wasn't translating properly to local. Turns out a certain function has no problem existing in update in multiplayer but wants to be in fixedupdate in local... Productive day.
-
I've finally read "Reflections on trusting trust". I'd probably do it earlier if I knew it's this short. It's also terrifying. 10/10.

Boss comes, asks that I make a function in the site. Tell him it's impossible / forbidden, he says okay and goes back. Comes back a week later, asks for the exact same function he asked earlier.
-
You know that feel where you're looking for a solution and don't find one. And go down this rabbit hole of self loathing? And everything is sad and depressing. You can't think straight. You feel like an idiot. You kinda don't know/ forget things you knew a couple days earlier.
Well, that ended yesterday. For now.2 -
Today, i finally got my desired job as Android developer in a startup, earlier i was working as a php developer to pay my bills. I told my pm about me quitting this week and man he congrts me from getting out this shitty job.
Now m just waiting for my salary before i quit. -
I started using vscode for flutter yesterday and it’s so smooth! Android studio used to make my Mac so slow! Why didn’t I do this earlier!3

Finished our first phase of the project about a month earlier. We entered the second phase and the project manager is shouting to do it as quickly as possible.
Sometimes I think I should have watched TV series in the meantime rather than finishing the task early. -
I'm in love with Webpack but jeeeeeesus when it breaks in obscure ways maaaaan
Like, I got it working earlier, no errors, everything looks great... aaaaand website is blank. No page, no source, not even anything in the console, just blank. Over an hour later... turns out removing the output target fixes it. Why? No idea. Nothing.2 -
Once I really messed up with git. Lots of conflicts, strange branching, HEAD in detached state etc. Just cloned an earlier version of the repo into a separate folder, hand transferred all the changes I needed to keep and force merged into master as if nothing ever happened.1

Developer skill #906: Tactical Sleep.
"Sure, I'll build you a landing page for your email campaign ...... For 10am tomorrow? ....... But it's 4:30pm....... Director says so?..... (Silent fml)"
Ask me earlier douchebags. -
I regret not learning c++ earlier. I learned Java before and now I have to work with mainly c++ for its libs and it took some time to adjust also I've never used Java for anything useful so far.
-
So we had a sprint review earlier. There were like 20 bosses who attended, head of this, head of that. We spent 5 mins to demo our application, and another 55 minutes discussing the "delivery date" 🤯2

Earlier i posted i felt like a fraud in this internship ,
But turns out my code was correct the damn API was broken i kept thinking in fing up
Ugh -
Sometimes I just hate myself.
I just binge-watched the entirety of Silicon Valley in a one sitting.
Why in the name of Babbage's Analitical Machine can't I be smart enough to figure out when the show is going to be so AWESOME! Should have done that much earlier.
n_regrets = 0;2 -
Anyone of you have any idea how to go sleep earlier? I was on sick leave for a week and usually watched movies or coded something to 6AM and now just lay on the bed for 3-4 hours each day and try to sleep. It ends up going to sleep at 4AM and being zombie at work.4
-
I spent the week working on an adapter to a specific format, the client came this morning to tell us Json would also have worked. Then why didn't you tell me earlier?!?
-
Someone was not telling important details which lead to a lot of work leading in the wrong direction.
Asking that someone why he hadn't shared that earlier was seen as complete disrespect against all management. -
Yes, after an initial period of scepticism they did.
I was incredibly well supported, both morally and financially, and I'm incredibly grateful for it. It's a very fortunate position that many don't have the luxury of experiencing, and I've no doubt it helped immensely - especially in earlier years. -
Trying to reverse engineer a competitor's system, which is a pain due to lack of documentation (despite the fact that it's "open source")... Then I run into some documents on the web about a much earlier version, and suddenly, we're in business 😈😈
-
I just wrote a pretty long story to post here. I forgot one word in English and wanted to check it out. I also forgot that I was working earlier on an app for work and disabled apps in background. When I opened devRant again, whole story was deleted. FUCK
-
Thank you those who tried to help me with my problem but I'm still not the best at this even though I've been doing for quite some time. I'm sorry I used some much of your time earlier also I apologize for calling out @example-user3

Just discovered Katalon and Selenium. If I knew about it earlier I could have saved days back in 2017 if not weeks. <3 this is a good start to 2018!1

Ctrl+/ for commenting a line in xml.
Successful.
Ctrl+/ again to remove comment ....nests earlier comment.

started learning react earlier today via codecademy - absolutely fantastic setup and explanations. Would recommend.
Now to get my other developer to learn it as well. -

My Bros housemates make a mess but don't clean up and generally don't get along. What can he do? Too expensive to live by himself (California)
They're new grads, met somewhere, dunno the details, and decided to rent together earlier this year. He doesn't seem to be very social and just games in his free time...2 -
As mentioned in one of my comments earlier, I am learning web development. And as such would like a web hosting service that is affordable and has instant customer support.
Suggestions ?10 -
I was teaching my friends to code in HTML with Atom earlier today so we could finish the homework for a class and in the span of one hour, two kids randomly approached us and started staring at the screen. They thought we were coding something huge when in reality we were practicing our ordered and unordered lists. Lmfao2

Holy fuck... why didnt I know about Fritzing earlier... AND WHY ISNT IT SUPPORTED ANYMORE! Its such a fucking great tool... Its so fucking great... I never used a tool so fucking capable for Prototyping with my circuits...

I work 9 hours a day. I started attending a masters that assumes you work 8 hours so lessons start one hour earlier than I'm supposed to clock out. I told the boss, and he was MAD. Even though I told him I'm taking the job cause I wanna do a post-grad.
What do I do now.9 -

I'm really excited with the 2018 World Championship, and I guess I'll leave work earlier to watch the games live.

Finally got around to re-aliasing `pip` to reach `pip3` on my mac. That feels so good. Why didn't I do that earlier?
-
Any fellow devranters in the pytorch udacity scholarship?
Damn,i was so excited for that, but it started 5 days earlier and now here i am , too busy to even start the videos. God i am gonna watch them after waking. -
Not purging my senior devs code from missing curly branches earlier. Maybe not my worst sin, but DAMN DO I REGRET IT NOW.
-
Earlier whenever I need to edit photos, I boot to windows for Photoshop. But now I am fairly comfortable with GIMP. Seems like soon I will be able to wipe me windows partition
-
* Left leave work a bit earlier, because I had driving lessons.
* Finished the issues I was working on and headed straight for to the school.
* Checks notifications
Coworker on that Merge Request I labled as ready: Did you forget to push?
I'm so sorry for being such a bad person 😅😭
At least it's nothing of priority 😔1 -
With the advent of everything being a service (read AWS, GCP, Azure) do you think it's time for our education curriculum to incorporate these services at a an earlier stage (say undergrad) since in the industry, this is kind of enough to make a decent living (speaking more from a devops perspective, programmers are still needed I feel)??2
-
Sat here for 30 minutes trying to find an error a client saw that I fixed earlier (mobile error). After going through everything I could think of, it turns out his browser was just caching... Fml1

Anyone have books or blogs about microservices and APIs they like?
I spent so much time focusing on front end frameworks and technologies and now I'm having to teach myself RESTful API structures and micro service stuff. I should have spent more time on this earlier on...6 -
Earlier rant: StackOverflow is losing traffic because of obvious reasons.
Today: OverflowAI https://stackoverflow.blog/2023/07/...4 -
So yesterday and before school, I tried to make a little count down thingo that shows time left until the class ends with js. Earlier this morning I tested it and well
If a countdown timer counts up then I guess it works...
Well that was interesting. -
When the guy who hosts the development server goes home earlier and you don't have access the the server. I'll be dammed, but there's nothing I can do expect play mobile games
-
Most days I want to weep as I recognize having worked on precisely the same thing earlier but noone seems to want to admit it.1

So about a big problem I had earlier in the two last weeks, we were waiting for the expert of the team we work with if they have any idea. But we had to wait for him to get back from their one-week break.
We asked them about it
They have no clue
fuck. -
Ok, I'm curious to know, who is the person who has been in devrant the longest?
Comment the date that you joined if it is earlier than the last person who commented.5 -
Send an email.
Or, more seriously: invite only people who must be there, and can add something to the discussion, have an agenda, stick to it, and plan the meeting so that it ends at the start of lunch break. That way everybody will be interested in finishing on time or earlier. -
After not answering my calls a guy from another team decided, that it will be a great thing just to let me know, that there is a bug in a script that I handed him earlier... 15 minutes before end of my work... extra 2 hours spent on finding the solution... and it will be continued tommorrow 😒1

My biggest dev regret is not starting earlier. I started learning how to code only 5 years ago, when I was 19. God, I wish I started earlier.
-
I am shifted to Django for the new project from Laravel. I am shipping features so quick my boss thinks I was slacking off earlier. #django_for_life #python1
-
Told my friends about this awesome app. It used to be my safe place earlier, but oh well... Kinda happy and sad about it at the same time. Hope they don't recognize my handle 😅1
-
Apologies devRanters for my earlier post about the EU vote, it wasn't meant to be a debate, had enough of that on fucking Facebook. Sorry 😬1
-
TDD shows you just how much "junk" you've added to the codebase before without TDD. Then it becomes TDD refactoring. Wtf, what a mess. 😑4

This cunt android studio, asshole. Every fucking day it would show me a pop up saying, "hey, update gradle", I always ignored it until today and that mofo has fucked up my project. Spent last 3 hours debugging as to why it is not able to resolve dependencies which were working fine earlier. And every time I click on "try again" it will resolve the dependency which it wasn't able to earlier but instead find a new one to fuck with and throw an error. Had to come back to old version resume my work FFS.2

Made a working full stack native app..
QA-"what happens if I change my time and try to fool the time based component."
Why didn't you tell about that earlier you piece of shit!!!! -
!rant i just to ask people here what made them quit or look for another job at another company.
I need some insight because i have conflicting feelings about leaving earlier than expected.6 -
Installed Kali Linux alongside Arch Linux. Earlier I was using systemd boot manager. Now that I've installed Kali, grub was installed along with it. Now when I boot arch via grub it's not loading.
Some of the daemons are loading and then it stops there itself.
Please help...13 -
Alright folks it’s the first, you know what that means. No Nut November has officially started. Make sure to read the rules properly. I have a few passes already from earlier this year and bc I was born in November, but I don’t plan to use them. Good luck.4

So as it turns out, the redemption of client money has failed.
About £4k just sitting there.
I was doing testing earlier, and accidentally left the endpoint at sandbox, all of the payments failed, so we have to mock the payment in now, once we get internet back.1 -
So the product has been labeled "ready for launch" for months, but the client has apparently been procrastinating and weren't ready.
Finally, earlier this week, they claimed they were set for launch, and that I should prepare the final bits.
And now they demand additional functionality which requires refactoring code.
Sigh. Why, oh why?1 -
I take back what I said earlier
This male is indicative of very gross and dirty behaviors
“It’s feeding time in the fucking zoo!” -
I started learning at age of 16, when I went to technical school (aka college in UK). Mainly learnt web development but now I'm adding to the pallette of languages. I wish I started earlier though
-
I just fixed some weird bug in legacy code which was caused by UI that contained text input fields embedded inside of text input fields.
How can anyone even think of this as a good idea?!
Needless to say, the UI was just broken. Maybe not a few iOS versions earlier. But definitely on the current iOS.2 -
Today was fun, i set up a dedicated minecraft server on my old laptop, to increase fps when I play on my shitty phone now it runs real smooth. The server is running on a proxmox vm - ubuntu server.
I wish I knew that fps would be this high , i would have done this wayy earlier, am loving it8 -
When your company gave you a sucky increase then 5 months later, after all your motivation has dried up and have fucking decided to look for another job, they gave "a just enough would have been better if it was earlier" off cycle increase.
Now I'm stumped -
Yesterday 14h work, today‘s day started earlier at 7am.
Live deployment is not going great.
WE SAID WE NEED TO TEST IT BEFORE GOING LIVE1 -
Tell you what happened to me last time. I went to this fucking job and it lasted the length of orientation just because they're assholes. Just like the assholes.modfied my work schedule by half and hour so I have to leave an hour earlier. Mother fuckers. Give me my goddamn earlier items back and go to hell early !
Imma make things out of them that they sell and feed orphans with them ! Oh and haha exactly 360 rants this morning ! -
So earlier today I went to a super market store and started gathering some items. After collecting a dozen items I felt like not buying. I put my trolley in a corner with items still in it and walked out if the store without buying anything. My first encounter with abandoning a cart in real life.. 😁😁
-
I made some commits just past midnight. But they’re not showing up on the repo on the 23rd nor on the 22nd. At what time are contributions updated on the profile ? Or is this some stale_chache issue I read about earlier.
Edit—
Perhaps because they are not verified. I found out about it only now.2 -
I do not know what an rss feed, heard it a lot but never bothered to check it. Am I a normie? Did my earlier life go to waste?3
-
That I did not have the rant idea earlier when I see a rant that could have come out of my dev life.
-
I asked this question earlier but I wasn't clear.
I'd like some suggestions on a keyboard for my PC (running Ubuntu) and MacBook Pro.
I'd prefer it to be wireless but I'm cool with wired as well.2 -
company bought a software for 400€. we figured out we could not use it for its use of a proprietary file saving system without access to our own data. so i took all good features, extended them with our specific requirements and built a quite open system myself. good day. why didn't i thought of that earlier?
-
I wish i had know about pnpm earlier. Would have prevented the gazillion of node module folders spread across my projects
-
When you find out you already finished coding a module a week ago after coding the same thing earlier the day cuz you were so busy jumping around projects and using different class name....
-
sigh.
same shit different day.
anyone else want to pretend to be me from an earlier visit between being neurologically poisoned by prolonged misery, shock, brutality and wasted time ?
why are we not moving forward exactly ? -
Does anyone here have experience with Kotlin?
I'm 100% JavaScript/web development for the moment but I consider trying to write some native Android apps earlier or later and heard some good things about Kotlin (language developed by the guys from IntelliJ afaik), which is supported natively by Android.
Soooo, how does it hold up? -
Question Devs... This was a complicated issue earlier. User tried to do an add-in through Microsoft Outlook and received a .net programming error message.2
-
Not gonna mention the better world part or what would make it
But would say a nice start is to not be living in a poisoned version of earlier events where people are crazy stupid and gradually disappearing and being replaced5
