Well I ended my interviews-adventure finally.

Applied for three companies:

- BiggestCompany

I failed in the last two. But got the job in the first one.

The bittersweet sensation is that I got the job in the first one first and then got rejected by the other two so my last feeling is the rejection one. And I really liked BiggestCompany2.

BUT KindOfBigCompany is actually really cool and has a lot of benefits and also I'll earn much more than I currently am so I guess Happy Ending after all :D

I said yes, and got the job without an interview on a one year contract. Three months in, I got an offer to convert to permanent. I've been there 14 years now.

Just got a message from a recruiter that contained this sentence: "I have the JS attached for your review". Took me a while to realise JS meant job specification and not JavaScript (which is required for the role).

Our company opened a job offer for a new teammember in our team.
Same skills and expertise as mine, but the minimum salary offered is more than I earn.
I decided to just apply for basically my own job and in a matter of 10 minutes I got a message by HR, asking why I applied and that this is basically a position in my team. After I explained the reasons, I got a message from my boss 5 minutes later, who wants to talk to me live tommorow about that.

Gotta say, fastest response and invitation I ever got on an application.

I just got a response from a recruiter saying that I didn't pass the screening because "they need people with degrees". Why the fuck didn't you mention that in your job requirements before wasting my time? Fuck recruiters and their degrees!!

I got really pissed off with this company. Why you ask? Well, first off they send me an email for applying with them for a job. Ok, harmless. I wait a couple of weeks and they send me another email. I'm excited, perhaps I got the job! NOPE it's the fucking same email for the fucking same job. I half assed their application the second go around because I was pissed off with them. In their section about uniqueness I essentially gave them the finger.

My dad was a computer engineer, taught me a bit, my high-school boyfriend (now husband) studied computer science, and I studied liberal arts. I couldn't get a job but got at job at my husband's startup. I learned a lot on the job and started doing tutorials online and I am the only person in my MA cohort with a job. Always been comfortable in the tech/dev world but didn't get into it myself until last year.

I was impressed with my latest job interview in the government (got the job).

Applied online, and they extended the application deadline because the lack of quality of applications.

I got invited for an interview. Present there were HR manager, Department manager and an employee from the regional office (opening a new dev department in the region).
Most of the interview consisted of them telling me about the company, and asking a bit about me. Nothing technical.

1.5 month later I got a 2nd interview. Present were two developers from the main office in Oslo. Again, very little questions about my technical capabilities. Mostly just repeating the stuff said in the first interview. Though I did have to send some code in for review by them.

A month later I get a phone call from the department head saying they’d like to offer me a job, but they don’t have a concrete job offer yet, as it has to be approved by a committee (gov stuff). That takes two weeks, and I finally got job offer. 42% pay rise from the current job in the private sector.

I later went and re-read the ad for the job. “Bachelor/ master required. For particularly qualified applicants, this requirement can be ignored.”

Fascinating that they didn’t give me more tests.

I got the job and wow that was fast. I applied for the job on monday at 2 am and they sent me the contract on tuesday (today) at 10pm. Thats 44 hours from the first mail until I got the contract :D

Everyone says "don't lie, don't bluff", but all those years ago I put my foot in the door and got my first ever dev job by pretending I knew what JavaScript was. It all worked out in the end.

Last I started my new job, and I got 2 new laptops (one from my job, amd a separate from the client, as I'll be there full time for at least a year). The work one was pricy af imo (P50, ~2500$ ex. VAT), then I got the client one... wtf is wrong with these people, the laptop cost fucking 6000$ (again, ex. VAT).

Now on the personal side I'm cheap as fuck, and the current laptop I use is one that was meant to be scrapped at my old job that I took home to fix. While it's fun getting those laptops, my brain cannot stop thinking "why the fuck do I need 64 gb ram, 2tb storage and 500gb NVME ssd to basically write text?"

In early 2016 I got a front end web development job.

<1 month later, was fired from thatfront end web development job.

Reason: After several years focused primarily on social media marketing, I didn’t know what the hell I was doing and couldn’t catch up fast enough to what their shop was using. My coding skills were way more out of date than I ever anticipated.

In retrospect, the only reason I got the job was that their 3rd party skills testing website repeatedly wouldn’t submit my results and didn’t change up the questions, so by the time it finally did, I had guessed 90% of the answers correctly. I registered as a false positive and that was, apparently, enough for their HR person.

Resigned from a job I got before my last semester of Masters where I worked almost two years. Boss started acting bad at the end and my work was really stressful.

Now I don't have a job and running out of money.

The story of how I got my new job (I will start in december) even though it is not a dev related one:

I was about to reduce my work hours, because my wife was getting a really good job. We couldn't both work full-time, because our son is in kindergarten. Then she broke her ankle and the job was gone. Right at this point I was offered a job at a friends company. I knew him by being an intern in his company.

awww shit dog, I got the job! Now they wanna know which OS I want installed on my company computer. Wondering if maybe I'm still secretly being interviewed....

Here's a short story about luck:

A few months ago my wife signed a new job contract requiring relocation. However before starting that new job she got another (and much better) offer (also relocating to the same place) which she took on. Recently that first company fired 700+ people, including the unlucky one that filled her position.

If she had not gotten that second offer, she'd be out of a job after just relocating.

I got home from my day job today to work on a side client's project that is due tonight.

Realized I'd left my laptop with all my setup for the project at the office.

I got the job offer XD it's not a big pay increase from what I was making before, but honestly I'd have taken a pay cut to get out of my current fucking job. Hell, I was one more overly dramatic angry email away from quitting on the spot and going to work as a stock boy in some walmart or something.

I got my last job more or less by luck.
The freelancer platform I was active on, had once an offer for 100.- if you find a parttime webdev for some small business.
I was looking for this kind of job anyways to finance my parttime study so I wrote back.
15 minutes later, their boss called me and wanted to meet me for an interview.

3 days later, at the interview, we talked roughly 10 minutes about my experience and then it was all about the upcoming project and at the end, about when I want to start and what I want as my salary.
Needless to say I got the job and the best: Also the 100.- 😎

Just got a new job.

All good, really enjoying it.

Only problem is, the canteen smells of chips and it's making me very hungry... Water for me :/

My leaders asked me to run the technical interviews for a position I have been asking for since I got this job. Because I am the only in the team that codes for Android. Am I friend-zoned in my job ?

Well, more like a dream position than the actual dream job.

Proprietary engine and a new language are kinda hard to wrap my head around, but I've been having so much fun that by the time 4 rolls around I usually don't notice it and stay for an hour or so more.

Hello all, I was wondering how some of you guys manage stress on the job? I recently got a new "real" job as a lead php dev working 9-5 in down town Houston. I must say, this "normal" work schedule is kicking my ass. I'm constantly exhausted, stressed out and am now having second thoughts about the position. What should I do?

Got appraises on first day of my job by reducing the calls to redis by half.
All I did was replace SET and EXPIRE with SETEX.

I was in school looking for intern places when a teacher told the class he had an amazing company for about 20 students. Got the intern job by doing my first ever job interview. After a year I got a traineeship while still in school (3 days school, 2 days work).
Now I have a job there, which for now is helping new interns and trainees while sales is searching for projects for me. (I work at a company which "sells" developers for a certain time, Im not sure what the english term for "detachering" is)

on one hand- got a new job, on the other hand getting a new MacBook pro just before they release a new generation

Just got interviewed for a project today.The interviewers knows i am a fresher and the last thing that they told me after the entire interview was that the job requires a 4 yr experience!!! I was standing there and wondering why am i being interviewed then and how was my profile selected for the job 😂

First proper day of work today.

Started at 11. Listened to multiple guys shout about how much everyone made in this crap-infested cesspit of a sales job.

Got to a city I'd never been in at 2.

Walked around in the fucking rain knocking on doors till 9.

Got on the bus at 11.

I earned £20 the whole fucking day, which I'm not even going to get for a fucking month.

I'm would firebomb the office tomorrow, but I need this job. Badly :/.

Some years ago I was on vacation with my wife. Everytime we were at the swimming pool, I worked on a really small side project. About 4 months later, I had an interview for my first Job as a developer. I showed them this project and got the job 😁

So I had two job interviews yesterday. Except they both got cancelled due to the snow. Luckily I got them both rescheduled to next Monday. But I wasn't happy about the weather ruining my carefully crafted plans. Work gets more toxic by the day and I want to get out of here.

Urgent: I got a coding camp JavaScript Instructor job very well paid expects answer tomorrow. I got another company wants me but they don't have offer as they must get permission from the CEO for a developer job. The developer job would pay less than instructor job

I don't know what the fuck to do. I would like the dev job for experience but I haven't worked for 3 fucking months.

A fellow student decided to apply to the federal police, after talking with then at a job fair on the campus. The police strongly stated that they had a high demand for new people.
He did not get an answer for the next two months - not even an acknowledgment - so he quickly found another job in the mean time.

After the two months he got an answer stating that the application deadline was over now and it would be great if he'd come for a job interview. Unsurprisingly he declined..

when you got used to coding PHP in uni then the first job you get uses Python.

I just got a job as a "Web designer", but I've quickly learned that my job duties involve installing theme forest themes for clients and sticking to the template. I'm not allowed to write my own code. ever. uuuuuuuuggggghhhhhh

This story is really quite amazing.

I got into my current company thanks to keeping a friendship from a quasi-ex-girlfriend. She got me in contact with her husband, who besides being a fellow nerd was also a highly-respected guy inside the company. Which is to say his name carried quite a bit of weight, and got me an interview and ultimately a job.

I got in via Support, but finally got promoted to developer last year, and have been enjoying it quite a bit.

Just got my first job as a junior front-end developer. I am currently working on coding emails and holy crap trying to code for all different email clients. Never thought each client rendered stuff differently. (Outlook is the worst!)

But I am loving the job!

3 weeks ago my job got cut while I'm overseas ☹️ only a few days after my grandmother died - talk about when it rains it pours 🌧 but so grateful for the last chance to say goodbye to granny.

I've been on the job hunt for a developer job for about two months now.

Last Monday I finally got my first response. Later that they a recruiter from a local telecom reached out saying they needed software engineers and wanted to meet.

Studied for 9 years in a degree, decided to quit because the math related subjects were to hard for me. Got a job anyways. TL;DR; a degree doesn't really atleast. not if you find the right company.

I got my job by applying on Indeed. I know! Crazy, right? You apply for it and you get it. Pretty much never happens with these job sites because of crappy recruiters and clueless HR drones who tend to post and forget. I must’ve hit the luck lottery that day.

I recently finished high-school and got a job in PHP Development. My employer told me to make a simple app wich OAuths you to your Discogs account and receive your library list. I got hired afterwards and now i work on a huge project which launches in less than 2 weeks. The day i got my job i havent worked with Laravel but ~ 3 days.
When you need to learn something due to the pressure, you'll learn faster. It's the same as learning a new language - I'd rather go to live in a country where it's mainly spoken that language and learn it due to the necessity than buy courses online.

So related to my very first rant, after two months on the new job, I got the whole team together (including my boss) and taught them how version controlling works!

Does any developer here does design work as well as code. I got pulled into it. was expecting a only dev job, according to the job description" but the creative team start handing me InDesign task and Photoshop task with no experience in design. is that crazy or normal for front end developers?

I'm getting started on web development again. But I want to get the right tools for the job. I don't hate Dreamweaver. But I know there's got to be something better out there for me to use.

After graduating, me and my friends looked and applied for jobs immediately. Our first job interview consists of 2 additional interviews but sadly, I failed the second one (don't ask why) but all of my friends passed so I was really bummed out. But I still attended the final interview and surprisingly, they didn't know I failed and we all got the job.

Sometimes when I think to myself "I got this deadline but I have to do my job the right way" I remember that I'm opposing craftsmanship to economics. And sadly, economics always wins.

I was away for a long time. Now I got a new job which means it's time to start ranting. Fuck this legacy code is worse. I mean, a fucking cat running after a mouse could write a better source code if he had somehow pushed buttons while doing its job. Every fucking best practice I know is crushed to bits.
