Fuxk yeah! My code works! It's 2AM, I'm happy and there's no one around, so I wrote a poem :-P
What was once impossible,
Is now close to completion,
Thanks to my debug statements,
Which now await their deletion.28 -

You know one of the things I love about this community is?
We have such a diverse group of people and even when those who don't speak English natively, they try to on the app as much as possible keeping it consistent. Even when they make some mistakes, no one's a dick about it (from what I've seen), which is awesome!13 -

Just saw an upwork offer.
The client wants the dev to put all pages into one page.
"That sounds easy" I thought.
But it turns out that the total amount of pages to put into a single page is 904625697166532776746648320380374280100293470930272690489102837043110636675.

1. Trust no one even yourself
2. Ask questions even if they are stupid
3. Test your solutions, even manually
4. Write comments
5. Take your time to solve problem, even if it looks like easy see point 1
6. Take some time during work to get familiar with code and read something about technology that is part of your current work - even if you know it - see point 1
7. Always try to see a big picture - see point 2 - why is it implemented is more important then how is it implemented2 -

To people who have done tech support:
Shoot me. Do you know what it is like to teach kids to use a mouse? Or even type in a keyboard? They don’t even know how to double click. Gotta call google chrome the circle of colors for them to understand. Some think the video that is giving the instructions is actually them doing it. So when it ends they are like alright done.
FYI: working in an internship currently where we teach kindergarten up until 5th graders from scratch to Minecraft modding. Btw it is an unpaid internship.10 -

It is well written, it explains what is happening and what is the impact providing an example. I give some advice about how to handle this situation, it's about concurrency issues and it's pretty tricky to debug.

"Please, can you tell me what are the implications?"

Why even is Microsoft Teams?
Why does it suck so bad? Why is it a memory hog? Why does the ELECTRON desktop app not have native ARM64 support neither on Windows nor macOS? Why is it even an Electron app? Why the web version does not work with Safari (then again, barely anything more complex than my portfolio site works on Safari)? Why is the UI from 2016? Why is it preinstalled with Windows 11? Why the pre-installed Windows 11 version is a completely different entity? Why the preinstalled Windows 11 version does not work with school/work version of Teams calls?10 -
Facebook is a giant piece of shit. Not only is their platform a massive contributor to mental illness, even their API's are fucking garbage. I'm trying to use their ads API and what it does is it hijacks the entire fucking request so you can't even extract data from the request after calling it. So I handed in my official resignation last week as I will be changing to a new job next month. So one of the last big things that I have been working on is a Jenkins server for the rest of the team to use and currently writing up the documentation for it.
However I haven't been told who I will be handing over my work to, but the bigger thing I feel is that even if I write all the documentation, no one will actually read it. Reason I think this is because I doubt anyone else in the team will even use the Jenkins server. The major issues are that no one writes unit tests and don't even understand what CI is!
So right now it feels like my final month of work will all be for nothing and makes me wonder if I should even bother writing documentation, especially if it isn't going to be handed over to anyone.5 -

I think God is a developer. I have to say a most impressive feat, even for God, is the idiot algorithm. It has persisted through millennia of attempts to remove it, but it just keeps refining itself. While it's incredibly brief, its functions are yet to find an environment in which they cannot operate. It's full adaptable to any task, impressively modular, and self replicating.
No matter how what problem you present it with the idiot algorithm can always find a solution. It never leaves well enough alone. It can even give you an answer before everything is fully processed!4 -

Few years ago I was asked to give advice on a project. There was an intern doing all the work and I even gave him almost ready code to use. And he didn't use it even properly.
And best part is that they thought at the time that it would be finished in couple of months.
After few months I took over and had to deal with the "intern code". Almost all of the code is rewritten.
Status of the project is now very good. We are implementing new features and it has even passed strict security audit done by other company.

When you learn all the basics of a language but you can't even apply it 2 hours later. Such is programming.
-
Haven't ranted about anything for quite a while... So, is everything perfect in my work and life ? Or, is something reallllly wrong that I haven't even realized what it is ??1

Fuck this documentation is shit! Param names aren't correct and some API's expecting a different parameter than it is even named for!

Perl is already high, but this thing is on LSD: https://raku.org/fun/
The fact that it's sort of serious and not an esolang designed for pain makes it even funnier.8 -
fuck lazarus
fuck pascal
please people you get C, C++, rust, java, javascript EVEN BRAINFUCK is better than this fucking stupid and obsolete language.
The toolchain is just horrible. fpc, fp-compiler, lazarus...
Even in repos 3.0.0 is not the latest one. Like who the fucking cares about improving this language, please think of people who don't give a shit and freeze it already
language is slow
language is horribly verbose
language is CRYPTIC to debug
nobody sain would ever want to learn this language
10 years ago as a student I would pit on lazarus
today I still pit on it
now about lazarus...
The IHM is one of the most shittiest interface we could ever dream of.
Even gimp does it better
you get to download fucking Mbs for a condensated pack of windows all over the places

I'm looking into GraphQL and so far so good, but I am finding it hard to implement business rules, for example:
1. Receive request with auth token
2. Know who the user is by extractin userId from token
3. fetch data related to that user only.
I was only able to make it allow or deny if there is a token or not lol5 -
I just wondered... Is it even possible to write unit tests for an OS kernel or a bootloader?
How would you do that?2 -
It makes my blood boil when my colleagues (who have been here for ages) know that maintaining dependencies in code is important but don't even action it because they give the excuse of having no time or the pressure of finishing it on time.
It angers me that I'm now in .dll hell and they don't even consider the time or push a valid case to fix the issue. It also frustrates me as I've realised that they have grown complacent/indifferent, not even attempting to change it.1 -
There is a theory that states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what Brainfuck is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizzare and inexplicable.
There is another that states this has already happened.2 -
WHY is cmake such a total shitstain?
Nothing about it works. literally nothing. I can't even make it run a script and do probably the single most fundamental notion of what it means to run a script, which is display its fucking output.12 -
Is there a lesson that you need to keep relearning?
Mine is: Never ever ever trust the data. Never. Even if your mother entered the data herself, don't trust it. Quarantine it, scrub it, and check it for errors. There is no white list.2 -
C is one of those languages that I have no idea why I really even mess around with it. It's cool, and useful, and all that jazz. But holy hell messing up one little line of code is the death of everything.
One forgotten semi-colon, and you whole program is gone. It will mess up other lines of code, which will mess up other lines of code, so on and so forth. I've even had times where I have to almost rewrite little programs I'm playing around with because of how much little errors can mess it up.
Don't even get me started on compiling. I don't even want to get into it now.1 -
What is it with this trend if having a SIM card in every modern car? Fucks sake, can't even find one that can be sold without -_-6

When you're having such a shitty day that you're investigating why something is (obviously) wrong and after ages you find a bug that you just don't even want to admit you made, but then you realise that, even though that's there and would fit the weird behaviour, you realise there's actually a safeguard that, while it doesn't correct for the issue properly, it at least prevents the whole thing from going apeshit...
Oh gods please show me why this is behaving so wrong even though the massive bug is kind of cancelled out.... -
Well fuck you too windows, my disk is where it is suposed to be, even though the controller is broken. Even linux can still find it. Although it takes a while to load the actual transfer. Recovery of terrabites takes ages4

I wanted to get the latest NASA APOD photo with Python. Easy, right? Nope! Firstly, their RSS feed is partly HTML, so feedparser doesn't understand it. Secondly, feedparser doesn't even get the titles of entries correctly.
Which is why I'm trying to parse it in a horrible way using Python regexp. NASA can put humans on Luna but not even get their RSS feeds to parse properly.2 -
Holy shit! I just finished Maniac and it is so fucking amazing, I can't even speak. A must watch for everyone lol.2

Cons of using an unmaintained app! :/

Yeah, I have some friends, but none of them appreciates Yeoman like I do.
Fuck, they don't even know what it is. 😡😡😡1 -
This project is such garbage. JavaScript built at runtime with JSP bindings, every form is submitted with Ajax even when it doesn't need it. Ajax calls with HTML in a JavaScript string sent to the server only to be echoed back to the front end to build DOM elements. I literally can't even.2
-
I can build my .aab, upload it, have it approved, and release it on Google Play before my stupid .apk IS EVEN DONE PROCESSING ON APP STORE CONNECT

Yeah, I have experience qith qorst CS teacher.
Considering that teacher as function (object) no matter what we pass never give results... It was anti boolean function can't even decide true or false because lack of info and throws any exception even on success..
It was like getting tons of errors when code is 100% perfect -
Is it even possible to buy music anymore? This "Music" / iTunes store... is a total fucking mystery now.14

Google Photos <-> Google Drive <-> Google Keep <-> Google Calendar interoperability is _very_ limited as I already knew, but it seems to be even worse for "non-technical" people trying to actually use it4

Progress on my blog (incocast) goes smoothly, even implemented a basic rss feed. Currently the blog is Service Layer only (because I still have to create a front-end)
It might even be interesting to open some api calls to the public... I don't know yet.. Maybe..
Either way the next thing to implement is a commenting system! :) -
VBA, not even the documentation is fine. I still have to use it. PHP just looks an elegant and charismatic language near VBA.
-
Perforce , what kind of version control system is this . It can't revert two check-in on same file. It can't revert check-in from bugs even after back-out of that check-in2
-
I find it hilarious that sometimes when i create bug in our app nobody finds out. Even pretty significant bugs. Sometimes i wonder how is it possible. 😅4

Microsoft Office Communicator (2007) is complete junk.
It can't even save a conversation session overnight -
I think deja vu is even worse for me
*as a developer*, even if it wasn't true,
thinking 'I have a already done this
exact thing before' is such a downer
for productivity..
For some reason I just had it with Xorg,
I don't think I ever touched it before..2 -
just feeling satisfied being able to program. even if it is just a small vba script again. but it accomplishes a feature in urgent need. best point is doing it within paid time.

Is it fair that oss auhtors/maintainers are not being contributed to by for-profit companies that rely on their products even though the licence allows?2

Calling something "idempotent" is fucking stupid. Why do you have to overcomplicate an already complicated shit such as terraform?
Why not call it unchangeable? Something that can be understood by a 2 year old. What even is the "immutable" word for if not even that is being used??? Why have 2+ words that define the same shit. Are u fking stupid who the fuck coined this phrase Idempotent and thought it was a good idea
When i read idempotent i have to remember and translate in my mind that it actually means "not changeable". On contrary theres "Non-Idempotent" so this fucks up the complexity even more cause Now i have to translate it as "non-not changeable -> which means it is everything But not changeable -> so if it is NOT not changeable -> it means it IS changeable" Fffuck offf13 -
Ok so my newest project is launching tonight and I feel very anxious, even though I tested everything beforehand. Is it normal?4

I'm not sure if this is a red flag but it appears to me it is, as I have seen it occur more frequently by self-interested employers:
When you don't respond to their inquiry and they keep prodding you about it, even weeks after it.2 -
The webpack production mode can't even recognize destructuring. It can only naively replace literal occurrence of process.env.NODE_ENV.
What is this? A f'ing template engine?10 -
When Client insists on making Excel what it is not... Implementing a management dashboard in Excel which source are at least 7 other workbook, that correlate...
Not even VBA is easing things here... -
Is it possible to sort collabs by the most popular? It would be cool if there was an indicator of how many people want to work on a collab as well, or even indicators showing the project is shipped and is available.2

The biggest issue I have with bootstrap is that some old school back-end dev always insist on using it even if the design doesn't work with it at all..
-
Linux package management is dumb for one simple reason: it is too complicated for its own good. There are too many different approaches and even within one approach there might be multiple repositories.
Is bad.13 -
So I just got something to work the way I wanted it to as a start. But I already don’t like the result and want to change it, even though this is how I planned it to be.4

Is it any coincidence that IBM's application container is called WAS. In other words their product is past tense. As in it wasn't even state of the art when it released.

Why does stackoverflow looks dead to me. Asked 2 questions this month , not even a single downvote or comment.
Is it only me?3 -
I literally don't understand the purpose of a "higher half kernel"
What does it matter where my kernel is mapped in virtual memory?
"It is traditional and generally good to have your kernel mapped in every user process" what the hell does that even mean??
Mapping my kernel into userspace is something is explicitely don't want to do. Like at all. Ever
And in physical memory it matters even less where it is.
I'm so confused right now3 -
So my Windows installation is getting the creators update. Let's see if it even installs. Stuck on here for about half hour.4

Opus is an amazing codec, but did Soundcloud really have to switch to it with a bitrate of 64kbps? even 80kbps would have been worlds better.

https://youtube.com/watch/...
I honestly don't believe it is really true and if it is, I don't think google listened in the backround or even cortana did, but it was youtube itself.
But still, pretty creepy and maybe listening does not work like in real time, but it is working. Slowly. Hidden. Precisely.1 -
Are emacs users really be like polishing their configs for years, for decades even? Emacs users of devrant, do you really end up with an ide that is more efficient than anything else? Is it worth it?2

I am so habitual to handling unexpected behaviours in Android to avoid crashes that even in real life most of my conversation with my brother is like what if it happens.. he'll be like we'll see when it does... I'll be like why not handling now... And the conversation goes on and on...
I guess my mind is trained now to handle null crashes, even in real life.1 -

Or when I get a jira task and I spend more trying to understand what the fuck is it supposed to mean than actually solving it.
Love it.
And yes, asking about it would take even more time. -
Damn it. This WiFi service in the train sucks. Not only they do block so dangerous stuff like Ubuntu packages but it is not even fast / reliable enough to give me stable SSH. NOT EVEN VIA FREAKING MOSH! We are talking UDP and couple of kbytes. Thankfully they let me pay for it after using up my generous 15 free minutes. Suckers.

I'm using right now Huawei Honor 5X with Cyanogenmod 13, but I really want to go back to Windows (I've been using it on Lumia 620 and 535). Is it again fast like 8.1 was? Is it even worth it?3

in vb.net i can declare a void function:
Declare Function some_func& Lib "some_lib.dll" ()
then try to assign its return value to a variable:
some_return = some_func()
and get no errors during compilation, not even a warning
but in runtime it produces integer arithmetic overflow exception
in what way it is not even a warning?4 -
Is it actually viable to become specialized in analyzing and optimalizing C# code? Like is there a market for that? Even if it is just other people being too lazy to do it.🤔8

BSNL (Indian state run telco) offers 4GB data per day for 90 days at just INR 444 (around 7 USD). Sounds awesome right? But the catch is their network. It is so pathetic that you don't even get signal of you're inside a building. Even if you have full signal, data speed hardly reaches 0.5 Mbps.2

To angular users: I still didn't try NgRx. Is it a better pattern than managing state with services, even for small apps?

I'm doing a code review and, it's not unheard of to have lowercase SQL im our codebase even though most of it is uppercase. For this reason I decided to let the lowercase SQL slide even though it makes me cringe so much... That is, until I came to one procedure that was uppercase and in this revision it is lowercase :O I want to die a gruesome way which would be very nice compared to this :O

Why is everybody using "wpa_passphrase" instead of "psk" in wpa_supplicant.conf is beyond me. You have an option to avoid plaintext passwords, the wpa_passphrase CLI tool even generates an entry for suppliant configuration, yet it seems nobody is using it.9

mod-php is weird and should never have existed.

I tried to reach myself Ruby a while ago, but ran into a plethora of issues just trying to get a stable running version of the compiler going. There's like, three different sites claiming to be the official site, which is which?

How bad is SAP really? I have seen so many rants about it, but it still seems to be thriving. It is used everywhere here in India. I work at IT department of a Hospital, and even they use SAP— the only complains I have heard is it’s cost, so they are slowly replacing it with Open Source alternatives like ERPNext.2

After few weeks I got back to an Electron app. Rebuilt the thing, copied fresh binaries to a Win 10 VM, and the app doesn't even start, it instantly crashes. Literally nothing changed - libraries (and their versions) are same, source code is the same, node version is same, it was built on same machine, VM wasn't even started since then.
Tried a fresh Tux binary, and of course it runs fine.
God, I hate Windows. 😩2 -
Installed Spark on mobile ( termux ) and after a hourlong battle managed to connect it as a worker for the master in my laptop.
Doing these things made me understand how underpowered mobile hardware is. I couldnt even unlock my mobile when i ran the master ( just started it.. didnt even run anything ) in my mobile. -

What do you think, is this bad practise?
boolean isNumber = true;
try {
