I swear the universe is cruel at times.9 -
Tired is the day when waiting for a file to load, only to realize it has loaded long ago and the file is the spinner.4

Manager: How come the intern does way more tickets than you?
Dev: Because you told me to only give him the easy ones since he either can’t do them otherwise or takes too long on the hard ones
Manager: Well how is he going to learn if we only give him easy ones?
Dev: That’s what I told you when you orig—
Manager: Assign him ALL of the hard tickets on your board immediately!
*Tickets closed per day drops significantly*
Manager: WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG ON THESE TICKETS!!!!!
Dev: …19 -

YOUTUBE HAS A DARK THEME?
How long has this been going on and why didn't I know about it? In all cases, I just turned it on and it seems like the start of a good day.14 -
My estimations before devRant:
PM: how long will it take to implement this?
Me: one day, tops.
My estimations after devRant:
PM: how long will it take to implement this?
Me: one week, tops.
Thanks @dfox for making me so productive.3 -
So yesterday my girlfriend and me wanted to clean the apartment.
We ended up coding on a private project all day long... but at least we put //FIXME notes all over our place.
Let's see how today goes. ^^ -
Pranks again today. Mother of God the level of those pranks is becoming high as fuck.
Define high?
Having to debug shit at system (cron, firewalling, users, sometimes even digging through logs/dmesg) level because weird shit happens all day long.
This is upping my Linux skills a lot though! I love it 😍9 -
So the other day my mother told me that her laptop does not start. Then we found out that she holds the "power" button so long that the laptop turned off again after a few seconds after the boot was initiated.3

Okay: "ハローリーダー" - "¿Qué?"
Seriously? "Hola lector RFID" - "Что?"

It's been a long day and the brain is obviously the first thing to go to sleep... even when you're still awake.2 -
When your colleague, who wrote the API is on vacation, the documentation is non-existent and you are tired from reading all-day long his spaghetti code, so you are just waiting for him to show up.2
-
Hello world! I'm new here. Discovered devRant randomly and I'm so happy I did 😊 Problem is, I can't seem to get any work done now that I'm reading rants all day long 🙃10

My boss caught me out the other day. He asked which browser do we test on. In our documentation it's ff chrome and ie10. In reality it's not ie.
I opened ie for the first time in a long time the other day to find a crap load of bugs. Including the attached.3 -
"Oh, I reverted your changes because I did not understand them"
I SPENT THE WHOLE DAY REFACTORING YOUR SHITTY SPAGUETTI SHIT U LAZY PIECE OF SHIT !
But I guess being a senior guy entitles u to sit your fat fuck ass in your chair writting garbage all day long.
Btw what he did not understand was f strings. In python. Srsly. How is that arrogant incompetent prick paid at least 10k more than me3 -

End up watching youtube videos all day long.1 -
Me: Making me work 17 hours without a 8 hour break is illegal.
Manager: You just sit at a damn desk all day and long shifts are required of IT
???????? Do you really think I just sit at my desk twaddling my thumbs?13 -
When I was first hired, I coded all day long and all was right with the universe. Then I got promoted. now all I do is attend meetings, grant access, and review other people's code. I need a demotion.6

I just had a 2 hours long company lunch followed by a 1 hour meeting with the whole team. And I still have a big problem to discuss with two colleagues. Too much social interaction for one day for me. Damn, how my head hurts.27

Day 1 of my CIT major:
Professor: "...and if we use the right mouse button to click on any file, we can access a complete menu of secondary actions."
It's going to be a long semester.3 -
At 4pm, after 6 hours of work of migrating from mysql to mongodb...
I am drinking coffee with my team.
Boss, comes from somewhere and asks...
what do you all want? (What he meant was, go back to work you all)
One of my team member- (angry and agitated) says-- a comfortable sofa.
Holy fuck, i laughed my ass out.
Guess what happend next...22 -
It seems like GitHub just got blocked here in China...
the gov: *talks about the importance of tech-related education all day long*
also the gov: *blocks every major site that provides good programming-related resources/education*41 -
The fun thing about wannacry and petya ransomware, that you are living in Ukraine and facing this sort of shit second day long6

I have been awake for 21 hours and couldn’t sleep last night, because of long vacation and my bed time is messed up. This is my first day working after training and I got 9~10 hours to go
P.S. coffee doesn’t help4 -
That moment you realise why you enjoy the dev life again.
It's been a long time since I've had a solid day of coding, just coding..., no meetings, no wild requests, no crazy issues, no data fixing because someone can't type a number correctly, just me, myself and that keyboard going on a field trip of quality coding time again.
Ah, it's a good day to end the week on!rant holy shit no meetings no problems lack of bau devlife those feels straight code quality code time back to the old days3 -
If you ever feel down at your job: remember that someone, somewhere has to read Windows10 user feedback all day long ;)5

This meme is not that funny, but after long day of coding when your brain turns into potato, it becomes hilarious.. why though? 😂4

It is always a good thing that none of your clients websites got hacked but your own website got.
Today's gonna be a long day.2 -
During a meeting with the client
Client: I don't care how long it takes to complete the app, I want the app to be polished and give the users the best experience!
Us: Got it.
*Later that day*
Client: *wants to implement a new feature in the app*
Us: It'll take us a day or two.
Client: That long?! I need to get it to the market ASAP!
Us:.......

Tomorrow is our half day long sprint planning meeting. I'm excited to be on mute and play with my new puppy all day.1 -
Porting over code to python3 from python2 be like:
(Cakechat, in this case)
Day 0 of n of python 3 compatibility work:
This should be _easy_, just use six and do magic!
Day 1 of n:
Oh, true division is default instead of integer division, so I need to replace `/` with `//` in a few places.
Day 2 of n:
Oh, map in python2 behaves differently than map in python3, one returns a list, other an iterator. Time to replace it with `list(map())` then.
Day 3 of n:
Argh, lambdas don't evaluate automatically, time to fix that too.
Day 4 of n:
Why did I bother trying to port this code in the first place? It's been so long and I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS BROKEN BECAUSE THE STUFF RUNS WHEN I BREAKPOINT AND STEP THROUGH BUT NOT WHEN I RUN IT DIRECTLY?!
Day ??? of n:
[predicted]
*gives up*
I've had enough.4 -
In a meeting the vice president of IT asked me “How long would it take you to re-write our CRM in XML?”
I responded “I’ll have it done by the end of the day if you can tell me what XML stands for.”
VP walked out of the meeting not saying a word.3 -

Rant about a german problem in english
I think we as the people should just sue the german government for neglect of progress and neglect of the education system. If your not familiar with the state of german IT we have worse internetspeeds than uganda or the notoriously shitty australia, our neighbourstates look at us in disbelief while laughing in optic fibre. Our school system seperates all students after 4th grade in 3 tiers, the lowest one gives you the future perspective as a social security case. The second and highest tier require masses of useless knowledge, so called "competences"(Kompetenzen) which are totally useless skills with no real world application because they are derived from real skills, a median ground between all possible applications of that skill. And while doing that they terribly insist on doing everything the "proper" way, meaning handwritten. Most people you would expect to have basic computer literacy, meaning age 40 and below, are incapable of using basic functions of a non-smartphone computer and do not understand the slightest of what they are actually doing or supposed to do. And I mean nothing technical. Germans are the reasons they still put word as a job requirement for devjobs because this disqualifies half of our population. This leads to many people having the archaeic "we versus the machines" mentality, thinking that if they ever let the computer do parts of the job, they will then lose all of it to the machines. Thats why you never strive past basic mathematical principles in mathematics, which is a big misnomer because you never do actual mathematics, only calculating and basic calculus and statics. If you get to use your calculator, its some basic casio with no actual functionality then standard operations. And even using that is shunned upon. How is this country ever supposed to become something more than it was in the 90's, if we teach people nothing of use and kill all progress in its root.14 -
Fuck long covid / ME/CFS.
This is day two of being bedridden.
I want to have energy again. And be able to move and do even simple things without collapsing for hours or days at a time.

I've got to say, arriving at my teeny tiny rented room after a long day of distribution center work and sitting down behind my monitors with a good beer and doing some programming/server stuff really feels like coming home 😍.2
-
-Boss instructs me to always set high estimates
-Asks in how many days will i finish X
-I think 3, but adding 1 extra day for each random problem i tell him one week
-He says thats way too long, make it 3 days
-Shit happens and i can barely finish it in one week

I come home pretty tired after a long day of classes and work. I call my family. So this is how it goes:
7-year-old-brother: I want to make a programmable robot. How do you do that?
Me: Who told you about programming?!4 -
Anyone work with other developers who take 3 times as long as you to do things, spend all day talking, get nothing done, so you have to pick up the slack? Fucking annoying.2

My productivity hack? Exercise.
It's amazing what a good workout can do after a long day of work. The stress just melts away and i sleep like a baby!! Ready to rock and roll the next day. 😎4 -

Every time..
Every single time!
All day long the hairy one is nowhere to be found. But as soon as you put some tech and/or wires on the bed - be sure she'll find it to be the best sleeping spot in less than a minute.
Literally a techno-cat.8 -
Roommate: Filter it, would you please? (* Was talking about the tea*).

I get inspired when scrolling through devrant.. It is like a motivational therapy after a long day of caffeine and coding.. :d1

When you've had a long ass 14 hour day and you're getting nowhere with a problem so you finally accept its time to go to bed...
You lie there for 45 minutes doing nothing but thinking up awesome solutions to the problem you went to bed over....4 -
Today, the coffee machine gave me only a lump of sugar. Without coffee, without water and without glass. It's going to be a long long day...2

That strange moment an entire PHP project no longer throws any errors, warnings or notices and you don’t know if you should believe it or not.
It’s been a long day trawling the logs file by file, action by action, surely I’ve missed something or it’s just waiting to break like hell when I commit the changes. -
Tired after a long day at work. Let me shuffle some music in spotify:

"All I want for Christmas is you..."
Next
"Love and understanding,
Merry Christmas everyone..."

With all the people around here ranting about their PM's, I'm really curious to see how a PMRant app would look like. What are they complaining about?
Devs that listen to music all day long and never want to be disturbed?
Engineers who talk in long, incomprehensible words?
...TDD taking too long?3 -
“Dear Manager, the reason I didn’t complete my sprint task today was that while I was nursing my fiancé’s COVID vaccine severe side effects, said fiancé’s Chinese roommate put a jar of some fermented product called “Golden Smell” in a precarious place from which I broke it, causing a veritable golden shower of glass shards and odors to permeate the workspace. If you don’t hear from me by standup, tell my mom i’m sorry."4

I'm so easily distracted...
Set my self the target of planning a project and then doing a straight Hackathon while writing the most optimised code I can while programming.
Long story short.. Ended up sellotaping a lazer pen to my cats collar and watched her chase her self round the house.
Very productive day. -

Well, today will be a day of trying to make my frontend angular website communicate with my backend symfony rest api. But after work also have to go to college and learn about ER models.
I KNEW MY ER MODELS LONG AGO.
This picture from one of my favorite series shows perfectly what today will be like.2 -
DO NOT f**king run automation and performance on the same f**king environment! You'll f**k up both the tests. Today is gonna be a long day.1

!rant Stood outside talking to my next door neighbor (who I hadn’t met yet) for over an hour yesterday.
In the middle of the day.
In Texas.

The importance of headphones is to avoid listening to co-workers talking nonsense all day long, especially young people.10

Step #1) Teach Alexa to respond to "When is Memorial day" with an incorrect date in the future
Step #2) Ask Alexa, next to your wife.
Step #3) See how long you can keep your wife going on "the government moved Memorial Day due to Coronavirus" before she realizes your just a prankster.1 -
For me, nothing is better than getting home after a long day, put a pizza in the oven, get a beer from the fridge and just sit back and do nothing for a little bit.2

Have you ever tried chatterbot library (python)?
Last day I tried to train a bot with a list conversation but no matter how long the list was , the bot was really stupid!
Do you have any idea how I can make it a bit smarter?12 -
First thing, I love my colleague. I know him for 15 years and I'm under 30. But I freaking hate when he picks his nose FOR ALL THE DAY LONG and uses shared mouses and keyboards, leaving them unable to use. I have to clean all that mess and no matter what we say he still do it. :(5

How long do my fellow devRanters spend per day coding? I will spend about 10 hours per day 6/7 days per week.
I ask this because I'm wondering if I need to re-balance my life choices. I took a whole day off
over the weekend and ended up feeling more rejuvenated coming back to my code this Monday.15 -
I long for the day I get a job with an actual developer team, where I can do things like getting my code reviewed or pair programming or being forced to write better tests.
Working as the only developer (or a team of 2) sucks :(4 -
Client: How long will it take you to build this?
Me: Maximum of 7days
Day 1 to Day 5, To myself: I have so much time, lemme build a Js engine in Rust and open-source it. It shouldn't take that long.
Day 6, After many failed attempts at debugging RegExp:
Starts working on the client's product, scraps off sleeping hour (why do I sleep in the first place)
Day 7: At 23:59...calls clients, he doesn't answer, probably sleeping... Sends message "Product ready to be tested at your call, I've not slept in 7 straight days because I like you"4 -
What do you guys do when you feel burnt out, and you don't feel like the weekend has actually let you unwind at all? Rinse and repeat week after week.

I think my manager has this false impression that just because we are working from home, we suddenly are gifted with lot of free time.

Does anyone use a particular reminder to remember to take breaks from their computer?
I'm noticing when I spend a lot of time looking at my computer screen, my eyes will get really tired and it'll be almost impossible to continue looking at a screen. However, when I am not looking at the computer screen all day long and the amount of time is spread throughout the day, my eyes are fine.
So I'm looking for something to remind me to keep taking breaks so that my eyes are rested all day long.

Yesterday was the first day of an "Advanced" C programming class. I looked at the first homework afterwards and saw this:
NEVER use 'assert'. Real programmers don't use assert in big software projects because it makes your code stop.
Who the... What... How... Why would you...
*sigh* it's going to be a long two months.5 -
When you spend half an hour long at your code wondering why your do while loop only works once.
Then you realise there is a return just before the end of the loop.
Today was not a good day2 -
However pathetic it may sound, I haven't. I've made good acquaitances, yes. But friends...
Last I had friends was in my first uni years. Long, long ago. After that - they went on their path and I - on mine. Work, family, personal projects and sometimes moto rides - that's my life now. Not really much time for friends. Not really much time to make any. Not enough time in a day to think/worry about it, not to mention reconsider my priorities/choices.5 -

Today my therapist suggested I work towards one day getting back the will and energy to start coding side projects, just for the fun of it.
That was a long, long time since I had the ability to do. Maybe I can get back to feeling that much in control that I can let work go for a day or two each week and just... Have fun coding. What a mind-boggling thought.2 -
Joing a company was the biggest mistake i ever made!
Wondering what was wrong with my career as a free lance android dev that i decided to accept the project ???
All those beautiful days coding all day long without any stress or deadline now gone!

Todays rant is about me trying to add some long text into my database. I tried it all day long, but the text was inserted partially all the time. I changed the collumns data type to BLOB, this felt false, but it seemed to work. The bad feeling triggered me to search further, so I rewrote my code and found the source of this behavior. I used utf8-decode-function on my text and that triggered some problems when inserting the text. I don't completely understand it, but I solved the mystery, that fucked up the day. I will sleep good now.

my boss plays music at full volume all day long.

So I had been developing a real estate website and developing a MLS feed parser. I had only 1 year experience at that time and parsing a XML feed was already complex enough. On top of it, the client wanted to automate feed download from the MLS provider through HTTP authentication. Managed to do it. Everything worked for 15 days and on 16th day the property location markers stopped appearing on Google maps. Turned out that address to lat-long reverse geocoding was failing because API limit exhausted. My bad, I coded it on view instead of caching the lat-long in database. Fixed it in a day and viola!

Worked all day yesterday (8am to 11pm) trying to get a regression test developed in ReadyAPI to behave properly in Maven/Jenkins. All I have to say is that I have some words for Smartbear.

Captains Log:
Day 2 of trying to get SQL database to work with JDBC application.
I've built a try/catch method and it throws up the message that IntelliJ can't find the JDBC driver.
More research to be done. My first officer duck buddy has no input for me.
It's going to be a long day.17 -
This 3 day weekend couldn’t come at a better time! Today has done everything it can to delay it and everything has been a superb annoyance!
It started off with our internal systems going down, a frustratingly tedious project proposal process, our phones went down, off the wall calls to support all day causing them to ask me junk.
As a parting gift the pending windows update and it completely crashed my development VM and corrupted my install of virtual box. I had planed in only working a half day, but worked 6.5 hours, hit traffic al over. Was late to the event.
Not I get here and there’s a bunch of smokers outside and I could reallllllly use a drag. But I’m not gonna. 😒
Just ready to kick back and do non computer things til Tuesday. 😎 -
The team in our office was forced to have, and I'm not kidding, TWO hours long agile meetings EVERY day. That's right, only 6 hours a day for work. Crazy managers
-
My body is begging me to sleep, but there is so much caffeine in my blood that brain is not letting me to do so....
-
Been a really long time since I posted on here. Sucks when you get stuck in a lab that bans cellphones.
BUT I got a new job now. No classified stuff. I can actually talk about what I do specifically now!!! And after a week I can almost maybe do my job one day.7 -
Erm not sure if this qualifies. Not so long ago I was tackled with having to read a device memory at a very high address in 32-bit linux process (kernel is 64). The 32-bit mmap is unfortunately limited to range of protected mode PAE so it just wouldnt reach that high. So! I wrote my own syscall in assembly that would switch to long mode first so I could use long registers and then I got my page and switched back :)
In retrospective not a big deal, but it made me really happy for the rest of the day when I saw that address in pmap :)1 -
Sometines after a long day of having clients continually find edge cases that break the code makes me want to be like.
"Hey! Having the app work well was never part of the scope for the project, just that it would work ish."
But I know better. -
So worried people will fuck things up in work when I'm not there. It's causing such tiredness and such long days. 🙇I think it's caught up with with today. No holiday leave taken for 9 months and not a day off sick. 🏳1

Will a brand new MacBook Pro make your day the worst?
Yes! It will if you are an iOS developer who fucks with xCode everyday.
Let me tell you the story of my day with the brand new MacBook Pro.
I wanted to build my application for iOS 13. For that I should have the latest xCode latest version. For the latest xCode version to work I should have the latest OS.
It took a long fucking time for downloading the latest OS dmg file. And for the fuck sake I was not able to install the same as the file vault was being encrypted.
That fucking encryption thing took half a day. And then I installed the OS. Then, I waited for a long time while the pile of shit(xCode) was downloading.
Then I installed xCode too. And now you know what the day ends and it's time to fucking sleep.17 -
After a long day of project management and endless emails, I would go home and dig through books and online training programs on html and css. A few weeks later I really found that enjoyed the work.
A year later I took the leap, quit my job and went back to school. Great decision. -
All day long meeting with business consultant about company future, software architecture, technical debt, refactoring, resources, projects.
Conclusion from top consultant, ex country manager of a weeeell known tech company:
Who cares about "code" anyway? (disgusted smile)3 -
In the mood of doing nothing because I have so much shit going on. Anyone knows that feeling?
Also so many (cool) projects I would like to do but no motivation to start anything... I have no real reason to... I’m just waiting for motivation to come back one day - but it has been a long time.. :(3 -
When you code all day long, on your workplace and later at home, "live" meaning switches places. Stops being "code to live" and becomes "live for code". Change my mind.3
-
We are gating release of each sprint.
Today before 10:00AM I identified a major performance problem and asked devs to fix it (single if() will be enough as a hotfix). We're blocked until we have the fix deployed.
It's 5pm and we're still waiting for that 1 `if` clause to be added and deployed :)
A long day it was. Full of hopes and expectations, waiting for things to happen -
Release on Monday === almost 10h of code today... Though it's just an internal release, so not that serious really. Though it's be fun to have something we've been working on for half a year working decently the first time people actually get to try it... Well, well...
-
Monday we had an hour-long meeting with the only purpouse of deciding when was the next metting.
Later this week, the same day of the meeting, it got cancelled. -
I finally had a reason to setup an atjob on a server. Been looking for a reason to use it for so long. Today was finally the day!
Good feeling 😊2 -
After a long long time,
Debugged something that blew away my mind on how it works internally..
DynamoDBMapper made my day today.
What could have been more better gift during the super special sweet valentine's week!!!!!
I ❤️ debugging.
Found my lost love and interest to patch up with my most loved one Miss "Programming" -
Third official day back in the office today... And I'm alone in the devOps room
That lasted long \o/2 -
I take an excessively long, hot shower the day before.
>but don't you already do that on a almost daily basis?
Yes -
When you use a Windows desktop and Linux laptop at the same time and try to undo with ctrl-z in emacs... This is going to be a long day1

I wanna make a c+friends language and it'd be dev friendly and will throw lots of errors on compile to show love. Also it'll compile slower with each newline so you can always say "it's compiling" there will be classes but people instead and then instead of new I'll have create. As for loops let's go with a friendly do while loop and dontdo while as normal while or dowith i while to have a friendly for loop. Instead of ifs let's say decide() and instead of else let's have or. Instead of functions I'll have well you need no functions you'll have jumps and tests before jumps just like assembly has. Oh and everything will be a pointer because then it runs nicer. To create a variable you can't use = because that's the equal sign in decide you need to use "var int myint is 69" because why not. Then to print to the console "console.outputstream.out(myint)" instead of threads I'll have please like "please work" where work is a jump target. I hope you'll enjoy this language ^^
-
i cant touch computer for two days, and it make me a strange feel. maybe its a good thing . through travel to relax myself.have a funny day and then start a new coding life😁.this holiday is a long time, after this travel .also have enough time to Learning some good framework.3
-
I know it's not our nature, but go outside and enjoy the beautiful day today! (as long as its nice where you are).
-
To the companies stealing my money, I need you to stop auto renewing my subscriptions or atleast let me be able to schedule for how long I want to use your services. I cannot come one day prior the auto renew date just to cancel the subscription. It shouldn't be like that.4

As part of my engineering apprenticeship, I was sent to work on a train depot. One day, a mentor of mine called me over and said "Kid - can you go and see Mr so & so and ask him for a long weight?"
I, without thinking about it - went all the way across the depot found the gent and asked him for a long weight. He looked at me, a little bemused - and asked me if I knew what the weight looked like. I said no. He continued to inquire about this weight - it went on for a few minutes until I realised my stupidity. There is no such thing as a long weight - only a long wait.
Needless to say my mentor had a huge laugh together with his mates at my foolishness.
Sometimes things really are quite simple. -
Wrote a good backup program, no one cares. I mean, its great if you want to create fast offsite backups! And it is simple to use, and has a pretty dedicated developer working on it all day long (Me)... Well, of course you would want to check it out, so here you go https://github.com/paulkramme/...7
-
How long did it take to receive an offer from a big tech company after your final interview? I’m just so antsy with waiting.. Any one have experiences past 2 weeks? Or even next day?2
-
What the fuck? Been trying to see rants all day long at work and at home and DevRant was super weird as if I wasnt connected, which I was...
Tested jsrant.com and the api was working...
Connected to a VPN on digital ocean and everything works flawlessly, dinconected from VPN and DevRant is off again...
Now on VPN... Wtf...5 -
My first rant/rage/despair moment ever was in university during a Java course where I thought I had completely lost the plot at the first exercise.
I was misspelling system.out.println() and kept writing down system.out.print1n()
That was a long day... :/
Luckily I never make 4-hour debug typo's anymore now that I'm a real developer (I wish)3 -
when your IT policy means that you have to submit a tech request for each nuget package you know you're in for a long day
-
I had a 3 day long weekend and I ended up spending them on learning python and watching some cs50 videos. Good weekend I suppose!5
-
Yesterday had fogged mind all day long. I felt like the biggest r-word in the world. Couldn't even map some simple API arrays.
Tool Laterus just makes me woke AF.
Been coding hard today since I turned on the pc1 -
Does anyone else feel they need to remind themselves to go to work tomorrow?
Or what they were supposed to work on?4 -
Friday, forced deploy day for last & current months work. Been stockpiled due to holiday.
Yesterday boss demoed the product to clients so they expect to test today.
Early o'fuck this morning, a coworker managed to drop all secrets and env vars from CI pipelines and trigger a deploy leaving production broken...
It's gonna be a long and busy Friday... -
The test server at work was going up and down all day. Not great when I was trying to use my new dashboard.
Long story short I found out the hard way to make sure I closed my SQL connections -
Fuck this job !! i prefer to sleep all day long than go to work and hear my boss' annoying voice .3
-
I told PM that a feature is only ready on Thursday. He goes and tells Tuesday to the business owner. Comes to me and says make it happen. Nope, sorry. Not going to happen.
Non-tech people should not make commitments. I long for the day their jobs become obsolete. -
Does anybody else feels like scrum's daily is utterly useless when working day by day on site?
I mean, we talk to each other either way, all day long. Scrum acting like this is the 15 min of whole day we will have the chance to speak...2 -
The Berlin rental market is so bad that I have to spend my long weekend figuring out how to write a bot to send applications for me.. (or keep hitting F5 all day and still be too late)5
-
Long day in the office and go out for bottomless pizza except that the restaurant is slower than old dial up Internet
-
Silence and an interesting project go a long way. If I'm really interested in a project that means I'll spend hours a day (even when I don't have them) working on it, and incidentally, procrastinating on other things.
-
"Everyone gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense. " - Gertrude Stein1
-
It's harder to grab hold of underperforming colleagues and give them a shake up, and harder to catch contractors working more than one job at once and doing poorly at both.
I'd still take it over a long commute and office work any day, though.1 -
Waiting for a job interview to happen for the last hour. After a long week and day, stuck in the traffic getting here, paid unnecessary money to the taxi. Thinking about leaving the company without doing the interview for the last 15 minutes. Fuck job interviews anyway.4
-
It is 10:54 on a Monday and I have not had a Monster because my drug deal- um doctor, told me off for drinking it (not good for anxiety etc). This shit is tough...8
-
Does it bother you when a co-worker keeps talking on phone all day long and it's not work related? It bothers me.5
-
They want you to go paperless (cos it saves them shit loads of money, and the shareholders like to count it all day long) not for environmental reasons. But their shitty, flakey online banking system is always down or having technical problems. Fucking sort it out!4
-
I just solved a 3 or 4 month old bug. Dont even know how long I've been struggling. But im tired. I had to hire people off upwork. Over 20 developers failed to solve this problem. 4 months later this one guy solved it within a day.... Fck u flutter1
-
It takes a lot of stamina to integrate frontend with backend all day long.
I wish I were younger...1 -
"I am barely awake, it must be like 3-4 am. This has been a long day at the office!"
It is 11pm... Long night to go!1 -
First day of the semester long group project. And I already stayed up way too late working on it and writing clarifying questions to ask the teacher tomorrow.1
-
I ran a big long-running terraform apply and somehow thought it would still work if I locked my laptop.
When I went back the next day (I know lol) terraform was hanging, had to force stop which screwed up the remote tfstate.
Had to spend a whole day manually deleting about 70 AWS resources that terraform created but had no knowledge of because of the corrupted state.9 -
How long (what % of day) are you fully focused (contentrated) on programming on average per day? How many hours is your work day? The longer the hours, the harder to stay focused we probably can agree. How are you doing in carreer - good or not, can tell as detailed as you might want to share.19
-
Today's the day I realized my branch was better off if I just restarted from master and cherry-pick the commits I liked from the old one. This is what I get for the branch hanging around so long.
Lesson of the day: Merge early, and merge often. -
So I developed this proxy server that will throttle down API calls to one of our providers so we don't get blocked for TOS violation...
Some dude had a tool running all day long which crashed 2 minutes before I left work.
This literally ruined my day until I recalled it's all cached!!!!
Mood is back again and I deserve my beer! -
At the end of the day...does the end consumer REALLY give a shit about what language you program in? As long as the app fucking does what it's supposed to right? I feel like this is a never ending rant for me because it seems like programmers will never understand that it doesn't matter as long as the end consumer / client is happy.2
-
MFW I worked longer than 8 hours because of a weird bug that turned out to be caused by lack of typing in a third-party library. Was supposed to be a number but I was giving it a string 🤦♀️Need more sleep.
The funniest part is the library was written in Typescript. HmmMMMMmm...
Throw a `parseInt` or warning for wrong type in there for me, fellow devs! Save consumers of your library a headache!! -
tl;dr
that moment was a full semester
full
I was an Electrical Engineering major taking a Data Structures class and for the first time, I understood the title computer SCIENCE. In EE, you just blueprint all day long, but you never build anything. In CS you build and blueprint at the same time.1 -
+1 When after a long day of coding your bosses close the office to play Age Of Empires 2 on a LAN with you. And you even get to beat them. Trip down memory lane...2
-
When you debug nasty code and first committer has but his/her name on top of file. Searching author's home address after long day.
-
you know it's going to be a long day when you're slacking on your project by reading RFCs about transfer protocols
-
Ah, now that I'm done spending my first hour of the day typing a long decline to a request for me to work overtime, I can finally get back to work.
-
Interviewed a dude to join our grad program the other day and he had the choice to program our simple algorithm question in any language, he chose PHP, spent a long time coding it, like a psychopath4
-
Heading out after a long day of website work, it seems like my phone is having a laugh at my expense.3
-
PERL.
So delighted perl has become the Latin of scripting languages. Horrific syntax, library drift and bloat second only to js, inconsistent lint/standards that no one followed anyway...
I'll grant it might have had its day, but delighted those days are now long gone (and even those days held arguably better alternatives available, but I digress).4 -
Had a Long discussion with stake owners and PM. Ended in despair over corporate guidelines and impossible demands from the board / CEO.
PM finally said: Fuckit, let's get a beer, i'm buying.
Best day so far this week.1 -
What Linux distros do you use and how stable are they ?
I'm currently running antergos, but it's really not working out. I'm looking for something that is more or less stable in the long run (something that doesn't require me to reinstall the whole f-ing OS every other day)13 -
Why does "git rm ..." Without options delete files! That is the dumbest thing ever. If I wanted to delete files, I could always type "rm file"... You forget --cached you're going to be in for a long day.
-
I actually just published a blog post about A.I. after having a big ol' ponder in the shower the other day. It's pretty long form but you can have a read here if you fancy:
https://aaronumhoefer.wordpress.com/...1 -
Sat next to a guy, like close enough to smack, but he would have hour long chat sessions with me on gchat going over work and projects. Kept his headphones on.
Another kid, one time I was helping him on HIS project he was given to finish before next day. I was helping so he didn't get stuck working TOO long over. The shit head still left at his normal quiting time and said he was gonna finish it at home. Still wasn't done the next morning when management needed it.1 -
My stupid body sweats when it's cold and doesn't when it's hot. I sleep in a long oversize sweatshirt. But during the day, it's the opposite, except for my fucking feet, this is why during the summer I wear t-shirt and stuff but with heavy winter socks.
Can you suggest a patch for that?3 -
Day of days! Insomnia supports environment variables! And has for a long time! I just missed it is all!
-
Any advice on buying a new mouse?
Uses: Programming, Gaming
Old one was a Razer Deathadder.
I don't mind if it's expensive as long as it's good quality. I'm basically using it all day.8 -
Sometimes after a long day the simplest of bugs is very difficult. Took me 10 minutes to figure out why my method to assign colours to users wasn't working.
addEvent({
name: userColour(something.name),
date: something.startDate,
color: 'yellow'
}); -
Have been working all day long on a dataset.. Worked like charm in the end.. Went for dinner, now it's outputs have changed all together and I haven't touch the code, I think Skynet is here.
-
I used to have this awesome co-worker who patiently listens to me ranting everything all day long. Well that's before devrant came along.
-
Some days I look back at the work I had done that day and think to myself, "what the fuck took me so long?".1
-
4, for a school project (and I was in school too). I get distracted really quickly, so I never work for too long. This day I must have been really 'in the zone', because 4h is a really long time for me!
-
Assuming you're working 8 hours a day, for how long do you manage to stay productive? I think I can't do more than 4 and a half. Maybe 6 on a good day.
-
Go on DevRant of course. Then go to the gym or go for a long run at the end of the day - Then we start again tomorrow.
-
One day I had to work from my parent's home as I went to visit them on a week day. I was working on the living room. One moment my mum comes to me and says: "They are paying you all that money for doing THIS all day long? I wouldn't give you $20/month for that." We both laugh. 😂😂2
-
Finding and solving problems on virtual computers in PC Building Simulator helps with the stress of a long day of finding and solving problems on real computers.3
-
I wonder which is worse:
1. all day long every day doing things you MUST do and running out of hours in the day to do them all
2. all day long every day doing things you WANT to do and running out of hours in the day to do them all1 -
Just curious, but how long do you guys spend programming a day. This isn't counting working time although you can include working time just declare it first!7
-
Today is my day to clear the confusion between strong exception safety and basic exception safety. <3 c++
And I have to have do this. Long time.1 -
Ah, the end of a very long work day, a beatiful time for me to click"update and shutdown" instead of "shutdown" on my laptop and being to scared to close the lid because I don't want to meet the thorn of God for ignoring the ancient wisdom of "Do not turn off your computer"
-
Can’t remember the longest “consecutive hours” session, but had a few work days that probably lasted 14 hours ( had breaks though )
Did however do 7 months of work days starting at 6am and ending at 5pm, but had two long breaks most days.
Also did a 21 day working streak once, skipping 3 weekends.
Now I work comfortably 😬 -
So I've worked a bit too hard today, some thing with production being down...
Does anyone have some sort of relax/wind down pattern they don't mind sharing?
My current one is watching youtube the rest of the evening, but I am interested what everyone else does to calm their minds after a long workday4 -
16h a day. I was late for a birthday present so I worked on it for as long as I could. It took me 2 months and I was not done in time...
I had eyestrain of death and all this trouble only for a freaking birthday present.
But the present was good, although it was incomplete.2 -
A colleague of mine were bashing all day long about which JavaFX scene builder is the best. Let's settle this what do you think?1
-
It's gonna fucking long day, after work I have to attend the convocation rehearsal tomorrow and the day after i.e. Saturday it is actually convocation (graduation day). I had 12 hours of sleep in the last 3 days and it is catching up with me now.
I'm gonna slack today and take an off on Friday1 -
Having sex. Or long hot showers. It's amazing how doing either of those helps me unplug for the day and start to refresh my self for the next day of coding.
Context, I used to burnout quiet often. Learning to unplug allowed me to be a better software engineer that could work better over an extended period of time.3 -
One of my teammates signed up for a day-long session on Angular 2, since he's been doing a lot with Angular 1 and wants to transition to the new version.
The instructor spent the first half of the day going through the w3schools tutorial on Angular 1, because "understanding the basics of Angular 1 will help understand Angular 2".
Btw, this was a paid workshop session. -
It goes back two years ago, i was writing web crawlers with scrapy. i don't remember how long i worked, but i think it took a full day
why: because, web crawling is so much fun and also i was young and stupid -
Was dreaming about a repository for a good night's sleep, when I took a 4 hours long nap. All because of non existing sleep last night. - Might need to take a day of soon, it's just so darn hard.1
-
A parade of planning meetings every Monday where the whole executive team (including the CEO) sits in. Each meeting was an hour long and it took up their whole day.
It was ridiculous how unproductive that was. Continues to this day AFAIK! -
Getting my Code fix On my Phone! Bought a small laptop not long ago, few weeks, and within a couple of days, it threw a blue screen of death. What a crock pot of stewed sht. Now, thankfully, I am pain-stakingly coding on my Android. The good news is, my Asus should be here any day!2

Hekromongikus friunglajtka. Borkokorakantes frikilikum.
Oh yes,
and you're expecting a phone call.
A good day to you.
Peace out.
Dudz.
Weed.
I mean long live the queen!2 -
I just pulled an all-nighter for some homework for grad school with a good friend and now I have 2 deployments today. Guess I can come off my coffee hiatus because I need it! This day is going to long unlike my patience.

I've been drinking the Microsoft Kool aid for too long now and I can't think of many modern day things that make it a bad company. Someone please save me @_@10
-
after a long struggle this has become a rant.
we've tried numerous ways to make local server/xamp/bitnami work with ubuntu 14.04 so that we can get working on WP and then setup git repo. thought life would be easy one day.
are we the only one suffering to make this thing work? -
I'm currently doing my college internship at a company where the working hours are from 8 am till 5 pm. I was suprised by the hours because it feels so long. I was wondering what hour do you guys work and does every company use these hours? I live in Belgium. I'm not sure how it is in other countries. Thanks!5
-
Today is the last day of my Lunar New Year holidays, which lasts over a week from last friday, the exact amount of time I haven’t been coding.
I have to return to work on tomorrow 🤦🏻♂️
Tell me how you guys get back your performance after a long holiday?4 -
Spent the best part of a day getting Google maps to offset the center of its bounds to account for divs displaying the marker info, which are floated on top - why does this shit take so long??
-
I resigned from my job, and now there are 6 weeks left at my old desk, until I can leave and jump into a new world.
Now, I have done all points on my checklist/todo-list and I'am now surfing the web all day long.
Any suggestions for websites to learn something / interessting reads?5 -
When you work all day long for your company and you go to your client place for your own business after 💪🏻1

So how is everyone's day going, me?
Well i'm silently screaming because I just finished building a long class only to find out im trying to extend a compact class .-. -
Oh a long day of reproducing a series of summarized videos about not so much my favorite topic but one that is constantly on my mind
Third time at least -
So I had a pet goat... He was this one developer that would walk around and bother people all day. We called him a goat because of the way he would move his mouth and smack during long pauses, like a goat or cow would do with a mouth full of grass.
-
It was a really really long day.
After today I think my brain change color. It feels like the color you assosiate with the sound that apple makes when its sad. -
back to coding after a long time, day 3 debugging wrong function for half an hour.... ahhhhhhhh back in the saddle :))))

Spent most of my day trying to create a new project that looks like the rest of our old projects. A quick GitHub template would go a long way please.

I gave a certificate, laminated and all to a team member today:
<name> is the worst person on earth according to all Entomologists.
He keeps eliminating bugs all day long.1 -
Working all day long on a new feature to resolve a perf issue but realised at 6pm only that everything was pointless. I love my job
