Girl : I like dangerous men.
Me : I didn't run test cases while committing my changes last night.
Girl : my hero!
Me : *wakes up from the dream*14 -
Woke up last night after a dream and shouted to My girlfriend:
"this has to be a f**kin Boolean !!!!"
I think I am a fulltime 24/7 Programmer :D6 -
Why do I create free services (at least free for now)?
Because one of my biggest dreams is to create a service which will be used by many many people.
A man can dream, right?
😞32 -
Tomorrow i fulfill my dream to have my own company office. It's small, a bit shit. But hey I'm only 18..7
-
My dream project is to work on a Hollywood grade raytracing engine (Pixar Renderman, Disney Hyperion,...) I have done some hobby grade ones like to produce the image here6
-
I have just landed my dream job. Coming from a background of java and python, I applied for a C++ heavy company... The interview process was centred on algorithms and I passed it. Now I get to learn the language I have always wanted to learn from pretty hardcore devs while I am getting paid. One of the best fucking days of the 21 years I have been alive for.3
-
Fuck yeah!
6 monitors are success-fucking-fully running on my setup.
Fun detail is that WITH the official AMD driver, one screen wasn't turning on and one had a weird resolution but WITHOUT it, it works completely fine!
Yes, it runs completely fine on Linux (Kubuntu).
Finally have my dream setup.42 -
I had been trying to fix a bug for the whole day, I decided to sleep for a while. During my sleep, I dreamt I was working on the code and I fixed the issue. I woke up, tried what I did in my dream and it Worked! I was so confused and happy17
-
I had my first nightmare in years:
I was at work, and suddenly saw that my NS has changed for my personal domain. I also saw that the domain has transferred to another provider and a company had bought it and had it for sale for $7000.
I woke up, but it took 10 minutes before I realized it was just a dream.3 -
*1 week into dream job*
Me: I need to communicate this variable to a script running in another thread, how do you normally handle that?
My Lead: oh, just add it as a global variable
Me: oh no...3 -
My 2 friends and me just started a company!!! I feel so excited, because I'm 17 and get to learn how to start a company, I always had that dream to be part of startup. My position is backend developer and db engineer working in apache and python for API's and MySQL for database. 😁😁😁😁😁16
-
Well got a phone call today and long story short is I have been given a probationary 5 week contract for my dream job, gonna be honest, kinda excited! :-D8
-
I just started re-doing my entire setup because I finally want to build my true dream setup 😍
Gonna pick up two monitors with monitor arms tomorrow and searching for a network switch as we speak.
Any tips?36 -
My internship at startup:
Dream: Lots of coding
Reality: Maintaining Excel sheets for API functions.😑14 -
Dream : Write todos.
Reality :
Well, i should conserve paper.
Oh, there is a todo app in my phone!

Shit.5 -
So my CEO wants me to move to architecting systems!!!!!!!! My dream since a kid !!!
It seems like a mad job where you're a crazy scientist 😂
What should I read or do to be better ? -
Pro(s) at working in my company:
- Lots of girls (we're literally 10% male)
Con(s) at working in my company:
- 99.9376% of them are taken :/
But hey, at least I can get my confidence boosted by talking to beautiful people and make new female friends :D
Partly a dev-dream come true?30 -
I had a dream that I was working in an office, writing Python scripts.
Then they changed my role as a frontend web developer. I wasn't happy, but I dealt with it. My coworkers were playing games instead of working and the boss yelled at me for slacking off even though wasn't.
I had enough so I told my coworkers to stop slacking off, but they were about to beat me up and the boss held a gun and that's when I woke up.
Thank goodness I'm too young for a job like that.4 -
I had to settle for a tech support job to pay my study loans. But a week later I got my first developer job in a big and reputed firm which pays well. This is almost like a dream come true.5
-
I quit my job, moved back home and will be studying my butt off and creating an impressive portfolio for the next 6 months to get a dream 100k+ remote job.16
-
Now that I have time to approach my ultimate dream ( being the pro penrester ) , asked a hacker for a road map and he gave me (U'll rarely see such open hackers that share knowledge :) )
Surprisingly I've been familiar with all the topics but being the most pro , requires u to be pro in every single topic .
Guess what ? I'm starting from basic linux commands all over again 😂
echo 'hello world :/'25 -
Coding destroyed my life. I used to be tripping and seeing flowers, now i feel like media breakpoints,i used to dream about jungle, now i dream about creating components,i used to have a few problems, now i have nothing else but problems, and here i am at 7am ranting for the first time on a nerd application which i didnt get the rants about... But now i laugh...
Where is this going????5 -
Spending my 23rd birthday in a server room 700 km away from home, discussing the requirements for app deployment. Yep. Every dev's dream.15
-
I'm gonna have a job interview in my dream company tomorrow.
Agile, Java, an awesome atmosphere and much to learn.
I hope I will get that job.12 -
!warning could be longer.
I must something let go:
Im now 24 ,my life was not easy .
I got bullied all the time in school from 1 to 10 degree. I had a dream since i was 6:"no i dont wanna be a police man, fire fighter, astronaut....i want to be a programmer "..
My father did me to make an apprenticeship with Volkswagen after i finished my "middle school" (10th class);
2 years of mobbing and be sad i leaved that motherfucking "-aship"
After a while my father again wanted to ,i must to an "-aship" .yeah hes been right, but i dont want to do and work like you do!!!.. then again after "fighting" my dad (parents), i was reliant to social help for a year..
(U must know,my dream was always in my mind)
I met a girl in a different federal state in germany and moved up to her.
I worked as a daywage man to get us money.
1 year was over and then i found out the apprenticeship as web and mobile developer (computer scientist) . I applied for this an got a place.
Now my fucking dream comes true in a few months!
Just wanna say that you never should give up your interests or dreams, doesnt matter how old you are!!!!
My journey begins 2017 and yours?:))))5 -
Just got moved from contractor to full time at my dream company halfway through my contract. On top of the world right now 😀5
-
This morning I kept falling back asleep after the alarm went off, drifting in and out of a dream about programming.
My wife finally said "no more sleeping".
Still mostly sleep, I replied very confidently "you can't sleep in a sandbox!".
I was dreaming I was in a code sandbox. Obviously sleeping is not allowed.
Jeez, my head has been really full of programming since this conference. (One of the talks was on codesandbox). -
I once figured out a fix for my bug in my dream. Luckily, I woke up at 2 in the morning and wrote the fix down and went back to sleep. The next morning, the whole thing felt like a dream.3
-
Today I woke up at 4 a.m. because in a dream I've thought that I had make a huge mistake in my code yesterday. So I've turn on the PC, checked the code and... everything just fine! F**king brain!7
-
Getting closer and closer to my dream setup!
What I want: powerful enough computer for some general gaming + IDE + shitloads of terminals with 6 screens running a Linux distro.
What I have: powerful enough computer which can run quite some games and handle my IDE + shitloads of terminals. Runs Linux already but still have to order 3 screens.
Nearly there 💜11 -
Expectations: I will program like the perfect lover! Fast, strong, safe, and with a passion others only dream of! I will stay up all night loving my code.
Reality: I code like a cheap whore. In fast bouts with whatever personal project will pay me the most in progress. My emotional experience is meh, it is sloppy, the code asks me to do things I don't want to but I say yes to get it to leave me alone, I don't use proper protection, and I am usually working stupid hours.2 -
I am a student. A Geospatial Engineering student. I made a demo Cordova app mapping incident spots on OSM., now my fellow undergrads think I can hack NSA, program a satellite, build all their dream websites and apps. The College Department wants me to lead an in-house photogrammetric programmable drone project. If they ask I'll say yes... yes I can! shit.😂5

My Dream Job?
✅ 100% Remote Work.
✅ No dogshit Proprietary Stacks like Adobe Experience Manager.
✅ Reasonable Timelines.
✅ Management defers all technical decisions to you.
✅ Actually Challenging Projects.
These are my Big 54 -
Do you code in your dream too?
Cuz, I do. Mostly it's about some functionality I am not able to implement in real life, at the end of my dream I feel like I have got a really great logical solution but when I wake up it doesn't make any sense.
(Excuse me if the image is a repost)8 -
I’m excited! I start my new (and first ever!) job as a dev today. I hope I do well. I’m surprised I got hired too, as I don’t have much professional experience to my name, but this is my dream and there’s no way I’m going to fuck this up! Wish me luck!2
-
I just had a dream about how to squash a bug I was encountering in my app. I immediately woke up, fixed the bug, and cleaned up my code. I thought this only happened in movies.3
-
I had a dream last night about how to fix a bug in my code.
I couldn't sleep the rest of the night because I was too excited about fixing it.
Plus side: the fix worked this morning.
Down side: ive drank so much coffee I can smell color5 -
!rant
I'm so so happy to have joined devRant: it gave me lots of motivation to work on my personal projects. In the last two days I worked more on an old dream/project than I did in the last year. TWO. DAYS.
Don't know for how long this motivation will last, but - for now - thank you so much, people :')3 -
I was so busy studying for final exams that I forgot the Google code-in challenge existed.
I only completed two tasks before I forgot about it haha.
Rip. There's goes my dream of being a finalist. At least there's always next year ;)4 -
Dreamt I was writing code for work last night, pretty sketchy stuff. But then at some point I woke up, and in my daze panicked thinking that I'd actually written that code. So when I fell back asleep, dream me was working on fixing all the issues that I actually had never writen. Woke up again, worried about if I had left everything well, and realized my stupidity.
I need some days off... 📴2 -
2017 was a dream come true literally.Long story short, I quit my job of 6 years as a PE teacher, studied Android Development through Udacity's Nanodegree program, moved my wife and kids out of our house (we were renting), moved in with my in-laws, Trusted God, learned how to build Android apps, applied at numerous tech companies, got offered 2 jobs, got hired as an Android Developer in Tennessee in December making almost more than twice I did as a teacher. My first day of work is January 8th. What a year it's been!6
-
How weird is this?
I was working on a project. I wasn't able to find solution for a particular sub problem. It was late so I thought of sleeping.
I dreamt about the problem. I solved it in my dream. When I woke up in the morning, I remembered the solution and I solved it.4 -
print('I love U world !!')
I'm back !! After being fired from my job (read my prev rants) , after a week they called me and told me that I can return! (If only I promise that I'll control my curiosity and i'll never make the same mistake ever again)
It is just like a dream !!
I'm really glad that I listened to your advice and didn't do anything stupid :)7 -
When I switched jobs from a slow-paced media company, to a fast-paced startup and learned what my team leader can accomplish in a day, would take me atleast 3 days... Not to mention doing things I wouldn't dream of thinking about them.
This experience has made me doubt my very own existence, let alone skills.2 -
I had a dream that I was installing some sort of package and the PM warned that it was a known malicious package and I was like "This must be a mistake, no it isn't" so I installed it anyways and then an ASCII-Art Michael Jackson started dancing on my screen to loud music and I shut down the computer and woke up and panicked because I didn't have any backups4
-
" I wish to have a job where I can sit all day and still have a salary " said the 9 years old me not really considering the consequences. 11 years old later, here I am with *a dream come true* along with a constantly killing back and knees pain at my 20's writing some java codes.4
-
So today after 5 years of working at my current company I decided that enough is enough... I called my boss (while being scared AF) and told him I quit. Now guys I know it is the middle of a pandemic going on right now but I want to focus 100% on my side project and I'm unsure if it will work or not, but it is a dream I want to be able to achieve. Damn it feels awesome to have a community where to say these things27
-
My supervisor once said he had a dream about me in the bathtub (after getting his teeth pulled and being on pain killers). Still was creepy none the less, like I didn't need to know. Lol.7
-
My GF said today that she had a dream where someone took her laptop, deleted elementaryos and installed windows. She was so infuriated and enraged that she woke up, and it took her like five solid minutes to realize that it was just a bad dream, and her Linux is safe.
-
I guess I'm not the only one who sometimes code in my dreams while sleeping. Maybe it's because working as a programmer is like a dream come true.4
-
Had a bad dream about python, woke up screaming "THERES A PYTHON ON THE FLOOR"
My girlfriend was so confused because she's not a programmer2 -
Do you guys dream about programming?
Tonight I was dreaming that I was building a client for some API and suddenly it started responding with 500 and then sent me a 50X "metal sound" (I don't remember the actual number), that meant the server was doing noises because of a mechanical failure.
I thought it was cool (because metal 🤘), until I realised the server was running on my laptop.
I started panicking and then woke up.4 -
I am Front End dev at a medium size company and I had to teach my PM how to create use case diagrams... Things are getting better and better at this dream job.
-
Finally my dream freelance project!!!! I will be re-designing and Then developing an Ecomm site for an organization that supports marijuana legalization. Oh those beautiful pictures will be my pleasure to slice up and implement. Lol3
-
It's been 6y since i created a devrant account, and went from a college kid to a dev lead, so much changed and i use my old posts as a window to the young me.
I am working my dream job, yet it feels like a nightmare.
The young me would give an arm and a leg for this position, and here i am feeling like this is worthless.
If any of you guys experienced something like this, would love to hear what it took to go back to feeling excited to code.8 -
Dream Project?
A script that remotely destroys all fax machines used by my clients so that they are forced to use vFax/fax2email/emailing their fucking PDF, etc.1 -
I'm finally realising my long time dream and making a programming language. It's a functional language resemblent in both appearance and usage to lambda calculus. I'll mostly be making plans down to the finest details until the end of summer, at which point if I can gauge the challenge I can hopefully submit this as a graduate project.
This is the first in a series of articles documenting my progress:
https://lbfalvy.github.io/blog/... -
Pandemic achievement: I slept early and woke up early too! Fuck yeah!
... Tho I did dream of an old-crush-who-I-hate-now and then of my friend breaking her leg, so I'm not sure, but hey, more hours in the day! 😁
Now, first going for food shopping and then I'm off to work.💃14 -
So I just got offered an internship at my dream company in London. The programme sounds super nice, it looks like I'll learn a ton of stuff, and it's super well paid.
BUT MY FUCKING USELESS UNIVERSITY WON'T LET ME GO BECAUSE THEY WANT AT LEAST 4 MONTHS LONG INTERNSHIPS AND THIS ONE IS SUMMER ONLY. I just hate that fucking school, it's the opportunity of my dreams but they won't let me go because of some stupid rule..15 -
I had a great dream where the perfect Linux distro was on my computer (like windows had never been) and I understood it well and the world was right5
-
Set up a server, code for hours using node and Mongo trying to realize your dream. FINALLY complete it after a lOOOng time of blood and sweat..
Then find out that a Noob who didn't know the first letter of web programming used FireBase and did what you did in a fraction of the time
I think I've reached the point where I can question what I've done, my purpose in life and.. As for my confidence I think it successfully descended during my last visit to the bathroom3 -
Over the past couple of days I did nothing but focus on programming. Well, today I fell asleep while working, became semi-lucid and managed to access root directory of my brain and went into a folder called "dreams" and viewed my yesterday's dream.
That felt mental when I woke up. I wonder if it really was yesterday's dream or was it my dream thinking it's yesterday's dream? Can I reprogram myself? Damn. Does that mean I did a reverse Matrix?3 -
Phew,
now I have a MacBook Pro, an iPad Pro and an iPhone. I achieved my dream.
Apple: MAC PRO WITH DISPLAY AND STAND.11 -
Yesterday I was able to write a C++ compiler, a cross-platform browser, a copy of Discord and my own OS!
Then I woke up and, as always, turned on my computer and realized it was all a dream.2 -
The British summer results in restless nights and broken sleep filled with nightmares.
One particular dream last night involved my friends messing around with a ouija board and they begin asking in questions. I remain sceptical and tell them to ask it to reveal the solution to the issues I'm having retrofitting a legacy web app with a new design.
The board disconnected itself. Hell had no answer. -
People! I'm attending to a hackathon for the first time (this country sucks)
Any advice?
I hope I can get dev friends, or even a dev gf (my whole life dream)11 -
After lots of interviews and waiting and hard work just got something similar to my dream job.
I am so happy. Thanks for all your success rants they gave me the motivation to keep going when it seems there was no hope.
Remember everyone just keep going, keep trying, keep pushing.
Happy ranting.2 -
I had this weird dream(emphasis on dream)
I was in a resort in bali waiting for my drinks and this cute girl comes over to my table.
Me : omg finally i can get a girlfriend
Me : hello beautiful
Her : hey i have this problem with my website *shows the messed up site with no divisions/containers * "can you fix this?"
Me : okay ;_;
PS : i started learning css, html and 2 other web technologies a week ago, and this is already happening to me, should i quit?5 -
What kind of developer are you and what is your opinion on other development areas?
Me: Junior dev, oriented towards full stack and Android(with a sysadmin background):
-Low-level(kernel development, embedded, drivers, operating systems, reverse engineers)- Badass, I wish I could do that.
-Mobile apps- awesome but too high level sometimes.
-Full stack/Backend- awesome.
-Web Frontend- fuck HTML+CSS. JS is cool I guess.
-Enterprise applications(e.g SAP) Pajeet, my son.
-Malware development- Holy shit that is awesome.
-Video Game development- was my dream since childhood.
-Desktop apps- No opinion.4 -
I just woke up from a nap. This may seem weird but I had a dream about organizing a devRant meetup at my location. dfox was in town for some reason it involved alot of beer.7
-
Yesterday I had a good idea for a project I'm working on, so I decided to stay awake all the night drinking RedBull in order to implement it.
Eventually I went to bed. I dreamed I was on an island with some friends and a volcano erupted. We escaped from the lava boarding on a big boat, then a tsunami wave reached the boat. Boat didn’t sink, however electric power went down. When the electric power returned, on the boat screens appeared the following text: "Please, restart MySQL". However, under it there was the PostgreSQL elephant logo. I was someway more worried about that rather than the tsunami. After that, a hurricane was coming too. We were saved by people coming with a spaceship, however they appeared to be drunk. I woke up thinking «WTF!».
This morning my husband told me our 4 cats made fuss all the night.1 -
I went to sleep immediately while taking a break from debugging and the dream was me debugging the same error the entire time. Then I woke up in my chair and resumed debugging3
-
i should be paid for the time i spend thinking about code outside of work. i really dislike doing that, but then my brain just decides to dream about code anyway and i wake up at 2am with ideas and a headache12
-
Woke myself up shouting hdcp at 4:40 am today!!!
I was explaining what hdcp was to my sister in the dream, why the HDMI cable wouldn't work..
Had a chuckle and continued to sleep, realizing what a nerd I am 😆
Who dreams about hdcp and hdmi cables?4 -
Since I was a kid, I always thought that my dream was to be a Computer Engineer.
As a Engineering Student, my dream is to have a 8h+ night sleep.1 -
Let's start by saying: God do I love programming and hate work!
My dream job would be a place where I get to write quality code for something that's actually useful and makes sense to people (or a group of people) without all the usual job bullshit; all the politics, fucking useless hours of meetings, the pretentious ass holes, and the useless mindless product owners with good pay to live comfortably and some organization (not being a complete disaster). It's only a dream though...5 -
These days are the best days of my life, up till now.
My best friend said yes to my proposal, I got a job at my dream company with higher payment, and no issue at all after my uat like last month.
I hope my codes doesn't ruined my day 😂😂😂2 -
My biggest dev career dream is to have a useful SaaS with a solid user base and then reduce work to 40-50% and use the rest of the time for hobby projects and a family.1
-
I have a dream...
I have a dream that one day my children will be able to wake up and install a fucking react native library without gradle losing its absolute shit3 -
My dream project is to create "The Machine" just like Finch did in Person of interest or to create the WestWorld Droids.
-
Is it possible to find a fix to a bug while you’re having a lucid dream?
Because as soon as I woke up I ran to my computer and heck it actually worked!
Which would mean subconscious mind knows why every error is occurring and how to fix it.
Which means our subconscious mind is playing our conscious mind.
Superiority complex.10 -
Well create a Googleing machine and infuse it with code words which it automatically searches till the Google AI thinks I am a ( ) programmer and gives me a job offer.this was my last night's dream . How Hard Can it Be?!!!
-
Create a new, fast, strictly typed programming language with organized project structure, normal package manager, dynamic syntax extensions (that means you can change the syntax of the language if you like!) and (most importantly) if statements which are written like this:
(bananas == 0) -> print 'No bananas!';3 -
Well I got offered a position as the CTO of a local charity but the funding fell through. That job sounded pretty sweet.
Otherwise my dream is honestly not having one, like in a situation where I didn't need the money. I'd not working and basically just spend my time volunteering for stuff at my church -
So... I was in bed going to sleep 5 minutes ago... I just had a thought I have no idea from where...
My dreams are controlled by code source files...
Change source files, I will have different dream....
Guess I spent a good amount of time with source files today 😅😅8 -
i dreamed a parallel reality
not even fking joking rn
it was MORE REAL THAN THE REALITY WE LIVE HERE
IT WAS LITERALLY LIKE I FKING LIVED IN ANOTHER REALM
this has never happened to me before ever
this shit woke me up at about 4:30 AM and i couldnt sleep for the rest of the fking day
i slept for 1h 30min
after i woke up it took me a couple of minutes to figure out if that realm was the base reality or if this current realm the reality we live in is the real base reality....
i wass fuckjgm lost !
there were 2 identical scenes that happened to me in the first and second realm
but both scenes had a different outcome, the realm i was in the dream had such a good outcome that it felt too good to be real BECAUSE I FKING DREAMED OF EXPERIENCING THAT I ACHIEVED HALF OF MY DREAM, WITHIN THE DREAM
And when i woke up and realized i returned back to this fucking realm i was so goddamn disappointed that i just wanted to go back to fkig sleep and just.. die
what the fuck
my brain is overwhelmed with bullshit and lies so much that i can not distinguish what is fake and what is real
fuck, eeverything in this existence12 -
std::cout<< " University, here I come! ";
// just passed a very important exam and I can't wait to get enrolled at my dream Uni :) Fingers crossed 🤞🏻12 -
Yesterday before going to bed, I got rid of and made sure my program has no more errors so that I can implement other features in the morning.
Today when I compiled the same program again(without any additional implementation) I got more errors then I solved in night. I guess the part when I got rid of errors was just a part of my dream!! -
I received a call from my boss saying I was laid off while I was out.
Wait a minute... I actually just woke up... This was all a dream...
Wonder if it is a message from my subconscious though...
Anyone else dream they get fired?5 -
Currently in 3 degrees bachelor in internship to be analyst-developper, yesterday my teacher came in the company where I do my internship and the man who supervise me said to him that I was just "perfect" I am the kind of person that they dream to hire, that's cool it makes me happy, but unfortunately the team is full :-/2
-
My dream project? A full immersion Virtual Reality... Like the NerveGear in Sword Art Online... *-*5
-
Today looking at code thinking to myself "I thought I fixed that code...shit that was in my dream!"
Why me?! -
I had a weird dream last night: at the office, my co-worker sliding a wide rubber band over my cup of coffee up and down 🤔☕5
-
I spent the entire freaking day on one spec — one! — and I still haven’t gotten it to pass. Or fail. It’s still just breaking. Even the simple crap is breaking, so getting the actual complicated things I need it to do working? Bloody pipe dream (whatever that means).
Just. Goddamn this system is complicated and poorly designed.
And no, before you ask, of course there is no documentation.
I want my day back. 😡4 -
Had a dream last night...
My grandmother gave me a flip phone as a present. My first thought was "really?"
But after flipping it open, I found that it had some gaming buttons (A, B, Start, etc). Also, it had a place to insert Gameboy games.
It was the most 90's/early 2000's phone ever.2 -
Surrender
Cry myself to sleep in the corner of my ofgice table and have a dream about how to solve all my issues
Wake up
Forget the solution
Repeat1 -
My biggest dev regret was that I've followed other people's dream.
I lost precious time into trying being the "good kid" for my family and support them in their time of need.
Now I'm considered old for a starter and getting a dev job becomes harder with each passing day.4 -
My wet dream is pressing tab when entering a path in cmd.exe and it suggests folders/files relative to the already entered path.
Like bash does it.12 -
I think I've been doing too much Android programming in the last three days.
Had a lucid dream last night where I couldn't wake up until I figured out how to set up an inter-thread latch that would allow me to process through a shit ton of data points in parallel without duplication or skipping errors in the most efficient manner (effectively no blocking). We're talking several hundred lines of code. Slept 14 hours last night, I heard my alarm but didn't wake up. When I finally got up, I did what I did in my dream and it worked better than the existing code.
Turns out my brain is great at Java evaluation now, I guess.4 -
Update on the saga of PhD application:
(Refer to previous rants for info)
My recommenders have effectively vanished from the face of earth. Emailed again a few days ago, haven't heard anything back yet.
I am almost sure I can't get in without recommendation, even with all my other glories.
... Is this the end of the dream?4 -
Just published the first part of my dream project on GitHub. Woohoo!
Genie wish #0 is that the world would find a use for this project, although I know that it's my job to use it to make great things so people see how it can be used.9 -
Last night I had a very strange dream. I should point out in advance, all of this is fictional and none of it really happened.
I was looking at an answer I posted on Stack Exchange.. for the sake of argument, let's say it was Super User. I remember the question being about volume limiting, which is actually an issue I and many other iOS 14.2/14.3 users have been facing in the last few months. Apparently it has been partially addressed in 14.4.
In the real world I fixed the issue by jailbreaking the phone and unloading the healthd service, while in the dream that was the answer I had documented on Super User. In reality I have documented it in several other places, but not there.
Fast-forward a couple of days in the dream where the answer was posted, and I was now looking at a reply. I don't remember the exact details of it, but apparently in the answer I had posted something about my network.. a screenshot from the iPhone? And the comment on it basically said something along the lines of "your answer is shit, and you probably have a very basic internet connection with default settings". I was really upset by that, as my network is actually quite advanced (on account of being a sysadmin).
Then I woke up and realized that it was all just a dream...4 -
Today
I was working on a project for the uni, went to have a nap and take a break.
The problem I was coding java in my dream.
I WANT A BREAK!!!!!!!!!! -
!Rant
Got my first job last week as a junior gameplay programmer. Dream job 😁
Well, more like a dream position than the actual dream job.
Proprietary engine and a new language are kinda hard to wrap my head around, but I've been having so much fun that by the time 4 rolls around I usually don't notice it and stay for an hour or so more.
I love it!4 -
I have a dream that one day I will build my own computer and install arch linux so that I could say I assembled both hardware and software.2
-
About to kiss my love in my dream (feelings intensify) but suddenly the terminal with ImportError : No module named 'cv2' pops on her face. (Even worse than rejection)1
-
My dream is to one day work on something and be allowed to finish it instead of being toss on new project every 2 days...1
-
My Teacher wouldn't understand the responsiveness of UI I designed and gave me 10pts for that.
I was told that my design is too unrealistic and idealistic for it to implement..
I used some css framework(to reduce the amount of work to be done) and javascript.
My dream is to become a web developer and make Desktop application with a use of ElectronJS(Currently devRantron is using).
One last thing... FUCK YOU, FOR GIVING ME A LOW SCORE FOR MY DESIGN.6 -
I was in a good mood until I read this weeks dev-question. I'm now having an existential crisis. Why do I do this? What's the end goal here? I don't know what my biggest dev career dream is. Maybe I should get a dog and live in the mountains. I think, I need another moment...7

First time using a computer:
Booting up some Mickey Mouse game from a floppy disk when I was 4 on my dads gateway 2000.
First time coding:
Writing html in dream weaver at 14.
Edit: holy shit dreamweaver still exists?4 -
I once had a nightmare because my boss suddenly appear in my dream. After that I woke up and can't sleep again, so I'm checking my mail and there is a new mail from him.. On 2am.
-
Got some really responsible teammates in my University project.
We have split our tasks and everyone is working accordingly.
This seems like a dream!4 -
Damnnn, have u ever found the solution to problem while u were sleeping cause i found the way how to fixed a bug in my dream maybe cause i was thinking about it before i went to sleep but its really weird when i think about it. 😬🤯1

Finally I got a dream job! I'm so fucking happy 😁 That was my dream since I went to high school and finally I achieved it. I put a lot of work into it and I knew it will happen. So guys follow your dreams, it's an amazing feeling when they finally comes true 💪💪💪3
-
I had a dream that I was on my first day at a startup and it was all going pretty well, was pretty happy ... So I asked for the code and it was php and had to use windows...
How can a dream become a nightmare so quickly?3 -
Since I already achieved my dream of being employed as a mobile app dev, I'm into creating music now to prove myself I can achieve something with this too. But you know, I'm kinda lost what to do. Like how I was when I started programming 😂
Maybe one day I can combine both skills into something interesting.9 -
Well this is the end...
My dream of getting a enginieer degree is over.
I hope my plan B wont fail.9 -
Finally got an offer from a multinational org i could previously only dream of. Ugh i really deserve it plus i didn’t fuck myself over by not negotiating this time. Got an extra 10k on stock options which was wild. Bye bye leetcode, hello Netflix and weed for the next month until i resume in August.
Such a relief knowing my family will not starve and die (joke but i am my family’s support so i was a quite worried last month when the interviews just seemed endless).7 -
!(isRant(thisPost));
Submitted my third pull request today in just a couple months as an intern, got told I'm doing a great job and already being considered to move to a more in depth dev team. Honestly a dream come true. Great company, great people, and I have a solid shot at a REAL full time dev position after college. I'm so happy man all that work finally paying off. -
My dream project is something very simple but not yet done in Pakistan.
I want to create a marketplace for musical instruments and related equipment. Currently it's very hard for amateur musicians in Pakistan to find the gear they're looking for, and being one of these musicians myself, I know how frustrating it can be. So it'd be great if I can solve that problem in a country where the government does very little to help independent artists grow.1 -
I had a dream once that I gave up coding to join a monetary.
Is my subconscious trying to tell me something?undefined why are my tags so long catholic school influence possible new years resolution? addiction2 -
Me: *gets a payout from my old job*
Me: ahhh now to spoil myself, let's get some pixel buds and a day dream set and maybe a nice bottle of whiskey.
eBay: YO! We have that MacBook you've been looking for going really cheap at the moment!
Me: ... I hate myself...
Why does stuff always go on sale when I've spent my money ;-;2 -
Found my dream girl. Programmer, smart, good sense of humor, knows Python, but nothing can happen. Boyfriend of 7 years and thinks I don't like her. :D How did I deserved this?11
-
Being able to make THE game I've wanted to make for 4 years. I have a team of people who wants to participate (dev, artist, etc) and I even started building my engine from scratch.
But most importantly, my dream for this game is to have it published on the Nintendo Switch (also PC, OSX and Linux of course)
But right now I must focus on finishing my degree and doing contracts to make enough money to hopefully work full time on my game.
I'll see you in 2 years Albi4 -
I currently have my dream job as a web developer, with a little above average salary, good colleagues and an understanding boss.
Today I had a recruiter contact me with a job opportunity (Senior developer) that would easily net me 1.5 times more salary, and a lot of other advantages.
It almost hurts to say no.4 -
So...
After about a month and a half of lots of interviews with 2 different companys, BOTH of them offered me a job last night.
One is a big digital agency in my country (~2000 employees) the other one is a smaller development firm (~200 employees).
It feels sad to have to deny the smaller one but the bigger one is a dream job for me due to the fact that thet focus a lot more on new tech compared to the smaller one.
But i have never been happier in my life!
It is a dream come true!3 -
My dream project -
An App that will reduce human impressions from this country without bloodshed.
Seriously ... People are everywhere, here. It is surety that you will get to see some or many people, no matter where you are. Park, Jungle, Mountain, River bed, Abandoned Land, Osama's bunker, House with annabelle ghost, Cloud, Space, Other planet .... damn
That way I am only helping mankind and nature. And then I will get nominated for Nobel Prize too.3 -
I have already accepted another internship offer.
I just received a far better offer.
And somehow I made it to the final interview round for my dream company.6 -
During my studies on the university, while preparing for the linear algebra exam I had a dream where I was a matrix in the Jordan normal form.5
-
My goal as a intern achieved, my dream of being able to understand 113,000 lines of code for their website priceless.2
-
Not purely dev related but I’d love to make a living out of creating my own products/startups. The dream.3
-
In 2018...
Maybe someone will like me.
Maybe the next person I take a liking to will be single, uncomplicated, and available.
Maybe asshats will disappear from my life.
Well, one can dream, can't I?2 -
One of the constants in my live is that I cannot type in dreams, no touchpad or keyboard will ever output more than three coherent logically keys before it turns into gibberish. Other interaction works, but no input for computers or phones.
Today I dreamed of assisting a guy to shutdown the Linux Server I set up, via remote. The dream totally derailed and was a bit boring. My dream characters realized that something is up and used a different keyboard. No dice. Visually it looked like Thai or so without the appropriate fonts.
Sometimes I am really wondering what my dream director is thinking.5 -
Had a bad dream one night that my bosses were going to run me through the ringer on some stuff that I needed to do better.
A day later, exactly that happened.
It would’ve been nice if my premonition could have had a few days gap between dream and reality so I’d have had some time to fix things first. -
If you are a dream stealing cunt then kindly fuck off. I don't know you, I don't want to know you. Climb into whatever hole you came out of and just eat shit.
Nothing in this life raises my ire more than people who hate on others daring to dream. The haters don't add to society and are just stealing air.2 -
My dream project is to build my own analytics system and project on monitors which basically says everything live users on site, what every user is doing... where my site is failing etc...
Fortunately I'm solely working on it and implementing in the company I work. So, in couple of months it is going to be realistic.
#awesome #analytics2 -
I got to tell someone about the dream that I had today, but no one in my real life will give a shit, so I'll say it here.
I saw myself flying in my dream. Where it got so good was, I detected that it was a dream and kept going. I legit thought to myself "I can't take damage cuz it's my dream" and started doing maneuvers like diving downwards to speed up and pulling myself up.
It was almost like I was playing GOD mode in a videogame with me as the protagonist. I could fly whatever speed I wanted and do whatever moves I wanted. All the while knowing fully that this is a dream.
I don't understand why but I'm so happy about it, today.1 -

The best experience I had as a student was attending a few masters degree classes at a computational arts course, it was awesome being the only developer in the middle of a lot of art graduated students who were learning to code. Awesome exchange experience, final projects were art exhibitions with interactive art. We used Arduinos, Rpi, Openframeworks, Processing. I miss that and I still think that my dream job will look like that. -
Since I was a little boy, my dream has always and will allways be to go and secure data for pornhub.... 👨💻👨💻👨💻2

Not exactly a dream abour coding but my favorite instructor in college.
I dreamt the secret police came to arrest him on campus since his methods teaching cod were unorthodoxed.
As they were leading him away I was screaming and crying - “He’s the best teacher here, what are you doing!”

Q: Your biggest dev career dream?
A: To finish my thesis, get a job, where I can peacefully code. And to earn enough money (does not mean rich) to just live a comfortable live without worrying about money too much.
Am I asking for too much?
Whats with you? What is your biggest career dream?6 -
Today I woke up from this craziest dream.
We were in France and there was a younger Mike Patton (who was french) speaking and apparently teaching french to an African girl.
The next scene he's in the back seat of what's apparently a taxi, and brags about how perfectly he can speak English. Besides that I see him playing the guitar.
In the last moments of the dream, however - and confusingly - the song Rusty Cage by SoundGarden starts playing loudly in the background. And that's when I found Patton is also a hacker.
Thinking about this part of the dream minutes aftger waking up, I found it to be the funniest, though not the craziest thing I ever dreamed.
Whereas I tried for hours to edit the configuration files of a tractor demolition game (some sort of Vigilante 8, but with tractors), he gets angry on a lady for an reason unknown to me, and in his moment of rage, manages to jump her houses' fence, surprisingly to edit her /etc/resolv.conf file - as if it was the most evil deed in the world.
In this final part, with Rusty Cage still playing very loudly, I find out me and my sister where watching this scene on TV (apparently patton was also an actor). After that, I comment to my sister in a grave tone: "Well, this guy is dangerous, maybe she should build a higher fence".
Then I wake up.
Although a crazy dream, it clearly addresses the fact I sometimes try to be a lot of things at the same time, and how this overwhelms me...1 -
Discretion is advised
I had a bizarre nightmare where I wake up tied, my head inside the glass cube, my eyelids stitched to my eyebrows so I can’t close my eyes, and then @rutee07 pours drain cleaner into that cube, through immense pain I feel my eyes turning cloudy and skin on my face turning into soap, meanwhile drain cleaner goes down my throat
And then I woke up. This dream was the reason behind my dice game liquid PH rant I posted not much earlier.3 -
I dreamt about bugs this night. Not software bugs, but actual bugs, like a centipede that enjoyed attaching itself to the inside of my palm and such... Not sure if dev related or not, not a good dream either way :/5
-
I'm down to write multi dimensional Git. I'm tired of losing the code that I wrote in my dream to go up in smoke every time when I woke up.
I just want to commit and push it to the dimension that I'm livin'. So that I'll have access to the code that I wrote in my dream.3 -
35y/o and a child (well, 2 soon), experienced as an integration dev (not my dream job tho), scripted a lot as a devops engineer (bash, py).
My heart says "jump deeper into devops and/or py", but my imposter syndrome infested brain says it might be too late and that after 10 years in IT it's time to navigate more into management/architect role (mostly because I've seen a lot of people around me follow this path).
Thoughts?7 -
Today I had a weird dream. The mars was collapsing to earth. Weird part was when everybody panicking and screaming I was watching it getting bigger and bigger every second. I was like "woah, this is amazing". I knew there was no point being scared because everyone will die anyway. I embraced death and enjoyed my last moments. That was realy weird experience.2

i dream of having a working dev and test environment
or being good enough to have my own stuff working
i don't go out of my way to fuck around with any of it, i just want to do my work, clock in, clock out8 -
my wife is setting up her new phone that arrived today. maybe i am a bit jealous. on the other hand i dont know how using devrant, reddit and duckduckgo justifies a new phone. better save this for my dream computer.6

I always dreamed to live in USA. Waking at the morning and see those huge buildings, eating pancakes while I cover myself from the cold. For a while I forgot this my old dream of travel from my Portuguese home to somewhere on Texas or California. Since I am in my last year of university, after being student worker and after 6years being graphic designer and 3 them as full stack developer, I trully believe in doing this...5

Do you know how to spoil my weekend? Interview me on Friday afternoon for my dream position and tell me that "you'll let me know Monday latest".
Guess who couldn't mentally switch off over the weekend?4 -
Not joining the weekly rant.
But had a haunted dream last night and it was definitely weird.
Dreamed that I was at my childhood house and opened the door of my room. Found literally nothing. Just empty room. Got scared (for whatever reason) and run to my mom. Came back to the room with her. Opened the door. Everything was in it's place; bed, chair, table etc.
I didn't watch any scary movie for the past few months. There was one scary dream few months/weeks ago and I wrote about it. And now this. 🤔1 -
my C# dream:
if (Object.Property != null)
wouldn't produce an exception if the obejct is null but just equal to false5 -
I just have a weird dream.
I am talking to a person and I enter into a dream land for a few minute (I think it a few minute) since I am really tired.
The weird thing is I am still having a conversation with the same person in my dream about the same topic. Now I am awake and that person doesn't notice that I was asleep (Good job my unconsciousness, good job my auto reply system).
Now here is a problem.I cannot distinguish the dream from reality and the detail of the conversation merge together. For instance I don't remember what is the correct price of the item since the price of the item differ from my dream and real world. The price of the item may be 2000 or 1800 , which one is it?
There are also various details which merge together.2 -

I was a gay in the dream.

What in the fuck is happening in my brain?4 -
Why does my brain sabotage me? I have a weird dream that wakes me up and now I’m awake at 3am and can’t go back to sleep. I went to bed at a reasonable time because I was dead tired and this is the thanks I get?2
-
#wk6 coolest bug: it was first year CS and we were learning data structures. the assignment was a maze solver using stacks. I couldn't figure out the issue I had and went to sleep. my dream that night was in code (one of a few times it's happened) and I woke up mid-night and typed it in and it worked. slept like a baby after that.
-
It has finally happened. I have escaped the land of bloated Objective-C and JabbaScript. This week I have started on another project, a full stack team working in Angular, Java, Hibernate, PostgreSQL. The dream has come true. Java it has been too long my friend.
-
Not exactly a dream, but during an internship where I tried to engineer a way to listen in on Bluetooth communications, I went so deep down the rabbit hole that I once half-asleepedly thanked my girlfriend for "keeping an eye on the Bluetooth channels for me, because these little twerps just keep jumping around all over the place"

My weirdest dream about programming?
I was sitting with my buddy and we were programming, and literally, verbally arguing with compiler that he should compile, and he was spewing out different errors each time we compiled, and it somehow matched our arguments, so it literally was "replying" with different kind of errors ;-;
I mean, we didnt change code, but tell to compiler "no, no, no, you dont understand. This error is wrong, becouse here and there is this and that and it just should work" **pressed compile again and gets different errror**
Yes, that was after few nights of c++.
Edit:
yes, in that dream compiler was spewing out bullshit errors that didnt made sense.2 -
Hey guys! So I just woke up from a dream in which I was talking with skilled programmer and he gave me awesome pro tip which I'd never realize exists!
But it was my dream so my idea. I have no idea how the f*ck this works but it's awesome. Is it just me or ?3 -
My name was Quiet Array -- I showed it, printed on my ID card, to some waitress. She asked for my hand in holy matrimony, and we got married by a soda dispenser. Immediately went our separate ways. I fiddled around with some runes on my galaxy-sized stash and invented a new way to sodomize demons, but the arcane secrets got lost in translation.
Then I woke up, and my first thought was: "shit, what a cheap-ass discount kiki dream".3 -
My dream project is a heavily story-driven game, with plenty of decision-making for the player and a lot of possible endings. With no money or time limits, I would make it with live action scenes. Just a great movie in which you have the final cut.
-
I hate how the world works sometimes, get a potential chance to work in my dream job after having no contact from any other workplaces and boom, as soon as I might be on the right track I get offered a full time position as a level 1 help desk technician... Fuck3
-
I've been on the same job for over a year now and I'm still working the same hours, but it feels like my life is becoming only work. i come home and sleep and I dream of work, so i can't even escape it when I'm supposed to be resting. i think i need a vacation2

I had been so stressed about not getting interviews as my final semester's coming to an end. It looked like I was going to be staying unemployed for a while and that I might have to take any job offered wether I liked it or not.
Now slowly but surely interviews are lining up and for the first time it seems like I have options and might land my dream job -
Last night I had a dream that knowing how to use Kali Linux was one of the requirements for a job I was looking at applying for.
So I was thinking to myself "hey, I know Kali, I should put that on my resume," but I was too lazy to do it right away, and when I did try to add it, my resume wouldn't compile (LaTeX) because one of the brackets was missing, but I couldn't find where the missing bracket was.
It was weird...1 -
today windows started updating its filesystem, I couldn't access even the screencapture! I would have lost all of my files...
And then I woke up. you bastards make me even dream about computers!1 -
OK, we all hate Gates, Elon or LTT for some reason. All heroes in my eyes. Ok, I do cringe at some LTT stuff, especially when about Linux.
I've read a book about Gates (Very bad one), about Elon and Jobs. So, I think I investigated well.
But there, a list from people we all hate for some reason. Question is, who's your tech hero?
For me, it's Robert Nystrom. But being a dictator of own project like Torvalds is my dream13 -
Hi ! This is not a rant but more like a need for help.
Currently i am working in a retail job , but i am planing to open my own business where me and my team can develop apps and webs.
My family and friends are telling me that i will fail.
What should i do , chase my dream and become unemploymed for a short period of time , or continue the way i am living ?
Thank you for your time and patience , and i am sorry for grammatical mistakes !3 -
Programming gave me a sense of accomplishment. The feeling of being able to dream something up, and then make that come to life, and always improving yourself as you go. What else gives you the same flexibility to change and add on to projects? All of this combined for my love of math and mechanics, and I found that programming was my true love!

Man, got a call today from a company in Hawaii to do a job similar to what I'm doing now. The salary was 50k less than I'm making here in the states, not even joking. There goes my dream... 😞2
-
Last week of classes and this semester is history. One step closer to attaining my dream job of being a software engineer.

My dream! When I remind myself that I'm not where I want to be yet, I get in that ultimate coding-zone. I push myself to be better every time and that gets me coding and learning new things. And of course, red bull ;)

One evening I put on my Quest2 and have some fun with the Climb2. I fell off the cliff a few times. Next morning my 5yo wakes up with shitty mood and tells me he had a dream how he was on a hill and fell off. It wasva bad dream.
A few days later I was watching The Troll on Netflix. I like this king of genre so I was enjoying it. Next morning my kiddo wakes up all excited with 'daddy daddy, I've had a dream of a mountain!'. 'Did you fall off this one too' - I rush to ask. He says: 'no, but the mountain stood up and it was like a man!'
he's been asleep both times. I was with my headphones during the movie and on 1bar of volume during the climb. He's never seen neither the game nor the movie [or any troll, for that matter]. And I'm not making this up.
How... How the hell did he do that. Do we after all float in some wibbly-wobbly ether we can communicate through?4 -
do you guys also dream about code or is that just my brain? i swear to god, if i see something awful at work i dream of a way to fix it7

SWE in fintech in MNC, job involves "bigdata' . Get paid >> avg
I FUCKING HATE IT. THIS PLACE IS A REAL DREAM-KILLER.
Size of the big-data ??? <50 GB ! Entire place runs on gimmicks and show off.
PO is a dumb cock sucker with minimal tech idea. He is busy sucking up business users and dictating us to rearrange tiles on reports all day long.
Fed up with all this shit , I decided to give GRE and apply for masters in Computer Vision .
For good GRE verbal score , I need to learn 1100 words , 90% of which I have never heard in my entire life.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ????????
Will my dream of working as a vision scientist for autonomous cars never come to life ???????
😢😢😢 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Plz motivate me to get out of this shit-hole -
I was always fascinated by Silicon Valley(the real place), it seemed like a dream workplace. But ever since I've watched Silicon Valley(the show), I have lost my faith in the place. I used to be amazed by the big people in tech, but now all that's left is skepticism.
Is it really like that in real?4 -
Well last 2 days at my dream job and after the 8th time they've contracted me they still haven't come close to offering me a position... Do I have the right to be pissed off? Because I am! >.<2

Lots of Web devs here I know but I hate js and the rest of it :)

Finish my biggest project :)
In 2017 the project was counting 60k lines of code (which doesn't look as too many) but I was able to remove some libraries and make my custom system, now the project is counting 10k lines of code :)
My dream is to open in these months -
Did some distro hopping at the weekend and ended up back in Ubuntu.
And for the most part everything is running like a dream, except MY motherfucking SQL.
Installation appears to be ok, but doesn’t let me set a root password, and throws errors like it’s cool when I try and change the root password.
Same goes for MariaDB.
All of my googling for a solution has so far failed me1 -
At my first programming job, the codebase was a tangle of legacy web forms, MVC, templates in a content-management-system, and AngularJS. Learning the CMS was particularly stressful.
One Saturday night, after binge-watching videos of DOOM 2 speedruns and mods, I had a dream that the Icon of Sin from DOOM 2 appeared in the code, gazed at me menacingly, and lunged at me before I woke up.1 -
Went for a interview for a first time after I've found a job as developer last year. It was my first time trying to get a job in gamedev. My dream has come true - they asked me about what games I like and we have talked about mentioned titles for about ten minutes. No idea if I presented myself good enough but experience was really awesome.
-
My dream project is to revamp education, be it through an app of some sort or by any other mean.
Can't justify spending a quarter of your life in a place you usually don't want to be, listening to stuff you can't relate, being taught by people who wasn't born to teach and being tested for things you will never use and couldn't care less.
Come on, there has to be a better way! And this goes beyond online courses.1 -
That might seem a bit random, but I started off this year with a nightmare (a literal dream) where I've fallen victim to remote code execution, because I cloned someone's git repo.
Is such a thing even possible? The closest thing I've found was this blog
https://blog.blazeinfosec.com/attac...
(and the info on it was already worrying enough), but that shouldn't have affected my dream computer.
Some details I more or less remember:
* The execution happened right after git clone
* The uri to the repo was a custom domain (no github, gitlab or anything)
* no submodules
* GNU/Linux3 -
My dream project is happening right now! Become the ultimate programmer and learn all the programming languages2

My current dev dream is to move away from JS based hybrid mobile development...
Guess I need to get back to learning Dart and Flutter hey? (: Because, well, fuck Cordova.. fuck it with `rusty-barge-pole.js`.2 -

So I found my dream college. They have video game development which can seriously help me out in my work. Problem is I need to raise my GPA to a 3.0 and score a 18 on the ACT testing my school does in order to get accepted. My current GPA is 1.7 and I don't know what my score was on my last PSAT. Kms2

Came up with a solution in my sleep though.2 -
Software engineering was the only field, which was scientific in it's nature and got my interest in early teens.
I've always wanted to be a scientist and/ or do scientific research, however, this dream is still far away at this point in my career. -
I saw a dream. In my dream, a dude appeared and told me that there is a torrent named "Programming Languages Theory" in pirate Bay, containing 1gb worth of books, and that it will be seeded by a guy who likes tea and bags in general. What a weird dream.1
-
My dream is to make video games. Knowing that I learn Java at school, which langage is the most appropriate for you? My teacher, who is a java fan, told me java, of course. On internet I found c or c++, and I even found a JS framework (phaser), but the doc wasn't great.
Do you have advices ?13 -
It just hit me. If you wanna achieve something great you have to dream big. If you aim for something humble, you'll just get lost in the endless land of diminishing returns where you take forever to make little progress
If you aim high, you are naturally inclined to do big strides since you feel that there is still so much left to be done
Just a thought I had working on my engine2 -
I just woke up from a lucid dream.
I could really control the situation, but it was fun telling my mate how IT stuff works LOL.
It's 3.22 am for me rn.
I fucking told my classmate how the proxy server at our school works. How the packets are being sent and received, how they get cached at the proxy server and through how many nodes they approximately get.
PS: I don't have a rubber ducky or whatever you call it to tell the problems of the program to it.7 -
Recently, my graphic designer friend who started learning web development has seen Dennis Ritchie calling him in his dream.

I have a dream, that one day, a major update of my app will have no bugs and/or crash reports within 24hrs of its release. ;_;1

Top reasons i code :-

My dream project is one which will calm devs' atmosphere, to create a cool interface between a dev and some fucking PMs, dont really need to interact with them at the 'backend'

I once had a dream where I talked to people in C and JavaScript. I used if statements in my brain to respond to people.
Such a weird thing to remember once I woke up. -
Why do we dream 5 minutes before waking up? (or more specifically, after the first alarm) :(
I had such a nice dream but sleeping longer would mean being late for work :-/
for anyone interesed about the content of my dream: Had a girlfriend who actually loved me...3 -
Best: getting a job in systems programming which was my dream since I wrote my first hello world about ten years ago.
Worst: recognizing that time isn't the restricting factor but energy, I'm often just too tired to work on side projects -
unrealistic dream :
in my 40s, being cto of a market leading product in its v10 stage, whose v1 i created from scratch. me doing nothing except creating the best remote work hustler culture for the company .
i will be making both : the topmost and bottomost engineers/managers give ppts and talks of product that they created, ll system and hl system designs and the decisions that went into it
i also want some powerful management/ ceos as friends, that drive our boat to greater heights and generate tremendous revenue+ fundings + profits
----
realistic dream :
to keep being SE1 (or at worst SE2/tech lead) in a company, do 4-5 hr non impactful work per day and earn 3x the inflation as am doing now. plus somehow get a lottery or something once in a lifetime , that is worth 100x my current income so that i could build a home and 2 cars and a children fund
dev is not a great thing to be dreamt about, but it certainly paves way for a happier and healthier lifestyle if done right -
I lost the book that i store all my passwords on it
I almost had a heart attack and
I woke up from my dream2 -
i want to make a paid subscription service for products that can replace google's and are privacy-respecting. primarily email and messaging apps. all with optional e2e. cross platform, open source, all that good stuff.
after that, maybe add alternatives to google docs, or release a first party phone that runs a mobile os that runs lineage or something.7 -

Since few days/weeks, I'm way less productive, much easily distracted, not into my job ... I'm the only dev here, mostly alone at office, and a lot of pressure on my shoulders ... Do you have some tips, to gain productivity, and have the smile back ?
PS : every single day I just dream about my current side project, but it's my job who pays the bills ..14 -
I'm losing faith in my future right now!
I'm dying working for my current employer (read my last two rants) but no one wants to hire me and I'm not sure whether it's my skills, little experience or only halftime availability until I finish studies!
Also, while I'm at it, there are second to none game dev workplaces here, in Poznań (and working as a game dev is a dream <3).1 -
Carpel Tunnel has actually made me a far better programmer.
While I've had to cut down on how much I program, I have instead started writing the first draft of any program on the whiteboard and manually debugging it.
Also got my dream internship because it made me far better at coding interviews!1 -
Spend hours of many days organising and structuring the architecture just in my head. Often go to bet thinking about it and dream about it too.
Sometimes I record audios on telegram to myself so that I can remember what I thought, I never listen to them though.2 -
Recently I've had a lot of realistic dreams and it's awful. For example, yesterday I dreamed that I have a SoftEng lecture on Monday at 9am. The day before I dreamed that Russia defeated Ukraine and are now neighbors with Hungary. On both occasions I was later convinced that the memory fragments were true until I either received conflicting news or some unrelated trigger reminded me of the later, unrealistic parts of the dream.
I can sort of deal with the possibility that my current life is a dream and I'll eventually wake up and start over from an unspecified morning, but the possibility that while living in reality an arbitrary subset of my memories comes from dreams is much worse3 -
Holy shit my dream last night was the best I had in years. I was basically in this open world (just real life) kinda thing that felt a lot like DayZ with the atmosphere (just no zombies). We we're a lot of friends just running about. But it was also kinda an exploration dream where I went into this bunker on the airfield (I guess) and then it was more like an action horror game where I had to shoot the most disgusting creatures. Except one monster was a cute girl (yeah I don't know). The dream then shifted to cuddling and making out with this super cute girl in bed
Oh man. This dream had it all and it was crystal clear the whole time, it was just amazing
Sorry, not sorry for reading this lol7 -
My biggest dream is to study at CMU, but I already have master degree and I'm not in US. So the chance is very rare.😖1
-
My dream dev-power would be to have a prescient warning with a couple years advance on what's the next interesting AND money-raking technology, so I will be already an expert just at start and I could even get a job at the sponsor company.
-
Smart glasses. There is one kind of them, which is pretty much my childhood dream to have. A kind if glasses that I can use to display contents as I do today with my multiple monitors. Is there something like that on the market? Must work with a laptop, not a phone.
Merry Christmas or holidays or whatever's you're celebrating today for everyone here btw.1 -
My dream was to have collegues that teaches me different approach on developing and will never be selfish, and now i have that! teamwork at its best! sometimes we have discussions when our logic doesn't match and in the end, we'll come up on better ideas.. :)
-
im from morocco and im programmer
i want to go to usa to complete my career ...
here in morocco there are no programmer
just little stupid programmer and stupid company .. :/
how can i realize my dream7 -
Does anyone have a really nice coffee shop in your city that opens in dawn time? I was looking for something like this in my city and I didn't find. Now I don't know if something like this is possible or it is just a dream.6
-
I am stuck at a job.. which is solely drag and drop.
My role title is Software Engineer just for namesake. Internally shifting to Product Team seems impossible at this organization. My aim is to work at Tech Giants.
What should be my next actions in order to achieve my dream job?
PS: I am preparing for the tech interviews2 -
I kid you not, last night had a weird dream. In it, as I walked into my place my girlfriend came up to me with a smile and guess what.... She turned into a terminal.. With green fonts. The vividness of the dream is still fuzzing my mind.3

“I don’t know whether I’m alive and dreaming or dead and remembering. How can you tell what’s a dream and what’s real, when you can’t even tell when you’re awake or when you’re asleep? Where am I?”
Metallica -One
Woke up with this on my mind.3 -
My dream job, apart from everything that's been mentioned already, is working every other month or so: one month working (not too hard of course), one month off. I'd spend that either travelling or hobbying.
-
Many years ago, after a busy day and some stress eating, I built a button in my dream, and, almost as if I was triggering the reflux function, I clicked to test it, I shot straight up in my sleep from heart burn.1
-
I think I just figured out my problem. I can't think of any dream that I want. As I sat here, there is not a single thing that I could dream... I just wanted to stop feeling this way.1
-
What actual pain is, trying to install CUDA on Windows (that should be a pain there itself) and all after 3 hours you realize your lappie doesn't support it (Geforce 820M)! There goes my dream of Theano, PyCuda and Tensorflow-gpu ...6
-
Inside yesterday's kiki dream, I woke up from a kiki dream and tried to explain it to my wife
So yeah, behold. Tomorrow you'll witness the first kiki dream seen within a kiki dream.2 -
I had a dream last night that I saw php error logs from my code floating above people's houses if they were using the site.
-
XCode is so terrible. I have to force quit it several times a day in so many use cases. I wonder why Apple cares so little about us developers. I dream with the day they’ll make XCode a good IDE. Everytime I run maps on the simulator my CPU goes to 700% and every time I checkout a branch, the thing hangs there so I have to forcf quit it 😠😫
-
I had a dream that my code made me fly irl. I traveled at high speeds and noticed up and down. The whole dream theme was that of the sky when the sun makes it and the clouds turn pink. The feeling was like when u get a crush on a girl coder. I might theme a part of my game around it.
-
Recently I am on my exams and I need to study well, On the other hand , all of the things I am studying has no link to my dream job !! So why should I study it and not to choose what to study .. Even though, I don’t really care and I keep on programming because it’s what I love ..💕🚶🏻♀️, no worries, I still study too.. I like studying and learning new information but I hate tests and exams,,🙆🏻♀️💔11

My dream project I already built but I would like to make it better so it's still a ongoing project.its a self help medication system for over the counter medication (panado herbal remedies etc).pick an ailment and it will give recommendations that will print out the receipt.this system can be put into pharmacies.
-
Today was all about dynamic memory allocation. I spent my whole day researching and learning this topic. I had watched couple of videos before I got to bed. Just a while ago I had a dream where Bucky Roberts from thenewboston and David J Malan were instructing me. Wow, such a nice dream.
-
i had this crazy dream that there's a code ghost that erases the blocks of code i wrote and produces bugs to my programs... damn this is the first time i got really scared.
-
Oh yeah! I am a struggling coder. I have a dream. I want to be a coder what if I am a software tester now. I will create my own softwares. The day I get my concepts right, you will see me scripting your story!2
-
umm... all of my dreams are weird. and are a selection of random things that happened. the only two weird things that were in my dreams:
1. (long ago) NPM logo on a tablet-smartwatch hybrid in a dream that isn't related to programming
2. (recently) a level 1 dude in some 8-bitish game trying to get into a cathedral which is supposed to be entered late in the game, only to get his ass kicked by Grim Reaper and a Sims 3 notification popping up about the death of that dude. -
I think some love might help my career. When I sleep on a bug, all I do is dream about the girl I don't have and when I wake up the bug is fixed
-
So, I get this super awesome machine, a hardware which was my dream to use for gaming...
2.2Ghz i7, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 4GB Radeon Pro 555X, and SSD.
But...
Its a Mac. Nevermind, CSGO is there for Mac.
The IT dept has some weird shit on this laptop that can sense if I'm doing something wrong 🙄
Why could they not spare us?8 -
freud was all like, dreams are about your subconscious talking to you
woo-woo circles go further, and it's basically the universe telling you what you need to know. to quote some stoner I met once, "if you dream, you're a shaman"
this morning I had a dream that I was in high school and Oprah Winfry was sitting on some cushions on the floor with her girlfriends. she said she got sick but then took this thing and it amazingly made all her sickness go away, expressing how surprisingly easy it was before her whole group got situated into their official girltalk. I asked her something cryptic and inoffensive (forget now, was deliberately not trying to get political though) and she cold shouldered me, nose up in the air and all her girlfriends followed suite
in the dream then I remembered I had this stuff in my locker and told myself to try it when I get to it
... then I woke up and in reality I bought this thing ages ago and it's in one of my cabinets. ate it and dream Oprah Winfrey maybe was right. message received I guess
now I'm taking medical advice from spirits of my enemies, I guess?11 -
My dream Job Interview
Today I was interviewed by my dream company to work at. I'm still in school and it's an apprenticeship for computer science.
I had to develop a program, on a flip board which finds equilateral triangles. I was given a few points with coordinates on it and should think of something. I didn't get halfway through it.
Does anyone think that this is to much for an 17 year old still at school?
I'm so concerned that they don't take me because of this challenge.2 -
Weirdest dream i had about code, i was just coding all my social interactions; i'd have some kind of overlay over my vision and i'd have to type in my every move and sentence while going on about my day in a very gray and sluggish world as if i was just a programmer stuck inside my body, working with myself the way i work with a server.
Another time i actually found a bugfix in my sleep. I had wasted 8 hours on a dumb bug that day without managing to find a solution and when i woke up, all the code was in my head and it worked on the first try! -
Should I try to build a OS myself with this: https://github.com/danistefanovic/... as my starting point?
My goal is to try and build a Linux OS that can also run Android apks (not necessarily from the Play store) that is imaged and able to run on my Raspberry Pi. Or this is a dream that cannot be realized?2 -
Hello , I am Student 1st year , studing Programming.
My dream is to be the most famous programmer in the world.I am hard worker.
I am learning C#.
The problem is that I cant find to much space to work with other here in my city , and learning my self it doesnt make sense to me.
What would you suggest to me ?4 -
Drawing pictures in your mind. This is something I have always struggled with.
Is there a set of exercises a person can do to develop imagery in your mind?
I have had times when I closed my eyes that I experienced what I would call imagery that rivaled or was more detailed than what my eyes fed me. But I only experienced this and did not create what was in the imagery. It has only been once or twice. I know that when I start to dream I can start seeing things with imagery, but I still cannot control this directly. I had one lucid dream where I woke in my dream and was able to construct things for a short period.
What I would like to be able to do is construct shapes and diagrams in my head. Perhaps visualize how an algorithm might function.
Is there a way to learn this?5 -
My dreams are getting so weird i'm keeping a dream journal now.
If only I could draw/3D model/remember things a while.1 -
My dream is that by the time you're 40 you could drift into the eternal sleep. I haven't yet, but the only thing I know is that you're going to go away. I know how people feel, and I want it all to go away forever.1
-
I just had a dream where I was running Linux and after installing Eclipse, some ransomware virus took over my SO.
Guess I really was tired as fuck2 -
Before vercel released v0, an ai tool to generate html and css code for your project, I had a dream that I was writing front end code and there’s this mysterious search bar where I can just type in what I wanted and let it generate html code for me. Then the next day I saw the tweet. I was honestly shocked and I checked the tweet time, it was definitely after I woke up, so there was no chance that I saw this thing before my dream.
And the shitty thing was that I was thinking about developing this after I woke up. This sucks -
My vServer setted Up recently is working.. nearly.. git isn't working.. cant Push to the server.. permission denied, Can not read.. Shit! Any suggestions?
I can login to my Server with my Public Key, but for some reason not with git. Maybe I will Dream from a Solution. Good night ;)6 -
When I was started my journey in coding, what ever I do, I think about coding. Sleep code, eat code, dream code, dating code. Its become my usually nightmares.
Its become worst when I got stucked in coding. Ppl see me like a geek zombie.
Coding used to ruin my life.
But when my code working like charm, feel like god. I can do anything. 😂😂😂
Sometime l just love it, but most of the time I fucking hate it. -
Dear devRant,
I have come up with my greatest drunken idea, but I don't have the time. So I'm calling on you to make my dream come true. *dramatic music* Hanson Bot! The natural language dating site bot that poses as an underage girl, banking all interactions, setting a meet, and forwarding it to the local police. Chris Hanson... You thought you were safe... I'm gonna automate your job!1 -
Today I got my plan upgraded for free to unlimited data it's a dream come true and between 12am and 12pm I used 8GB hahaha

Ending my Web Technology project for uni listening to "Requiem for a dream"

I think I just had a lucid dream... my first.
I thought I snapped my glasses in 2 because I forgot it was on my bed and somehow crushed the nose piece while getting off the bed.
So I'm going crazy looking for my backup and thinking how much it would cost to replace it since i don't have vision insurance this year...
Even thought about using tape to put the 2ends back together....
Just woke up and realized it was a dream. My glasses r fine.
Wonder if this is a warning though... Maybe I'll be more careful because of it...10 -
Had a watchdogs type dream, but my profiler kept bugging up and I ended up in the bunker trying to fix it until I woke up. I no longer play that game
-
I had spent all night writing a series of nested loops, my dream was me circling in an old above ground pool like I would as a child. We used to try to make a whirlpool by trying to run along the wall.
-
Most of the jobs I dream of are really just jobs I romantisize. Like being a journalist travelling the world with an audio recorder. Or being a barista. I’ve already done the barista thing though, and I’m happy I took the step into software engineering. But maybe one day I’ll go back and start my own little café.

Do you use social networks?
What do you think, how important is social marketing for active users of social networks. For those who may not know, social marketing is the promotion of your page, blog, in various kinds of social media. For example, I am an active user of YouTube. I have a dream, 1 million subscribers. But starting was not easy at all. It is very difficult to break through the routine of thousands of other small channels. The guys from https://videosgrow.com/free-youtube... helped me in this. Now I’m half way to my dream, I have about 500 thousand subscribers, which I am undoubtedly glad.1
