I’ve worked at six companies over my 10 years of professional programming. All companies say they track internet usage of the employees. This is the first company I have worked for that sends you a weekly summary of sites that you visit.

My productivity reduces by almost half after lunch and reduces to 10% the day I leave headphones at home. It is only after tea break in the afternoon that slowly I start getting back on track again

A project that is used across our company with multiple clients. It's huge, over 2million lines of code and 116 separate projects. Not a single piece of documentation. Took me three weeks to track down where the authentication occurred with visual debugging and mapping tools.

Had to track down IDA 5.0 today because I need to decompile a DOS program and DOS' included debugger wasn't cutting it. (Related note: If anyone has a copy of SOURCER, mind sharing?)

Any other people here that find Python to be actually a harder language than Java? With Java it's much easier to keep track of your code and to track what variables refer to certain object types.

It feels like Python has much more quirks and feels therefore much more inconsistent as a language. Object oriented programming is more verbose with static methods and decorators being vague for example. This makes it harder to grasp concepts like design patterns and SOLID principles in Python imo.

I swear YouTube's recommendations are fucked. I watch one fantano review of a song that just dropped and YouTube is over here like

"hey, do you want to see what EVERYONE thought of that track?"

Is this just me every dev have this problem, while learning something new sometimes I loose track and learn something else completely without any intention of learning it.

So, my company already has subscriptions to rally (jira alternative) but the current team fucking uses an online SPREADSHEET to track work items! it's easy to track, blah blah, fuck you. The feature requirement is just one fucking line long. Are you kidding me. Don't come back to me saying something is not working as expected when you didn't specify how it should work.

Fellow Freelancers, can you recommend a platform you use to track and share project progress with your clients?

What do you typically use to keep clients updated about project status? There a Fancy SaaS solution or do you use a simple excel file??

a one track mind is probably one of the shittiest things to have.

Reasons my mother-in-law phones us:
- the laptop is not connected to wifi
- what is the password of our MS Office subscription?
- the website says I can only play videos without adblocker
- I want to keep track of a Youtube video link

If you're making code changes without a Story or Bug ID, you're doing something wrong. Take the 30 seconds and open a story to track your friggin work please.

So in my experience, coding while I'm not sober actually helps out sometimes. I always end up documenting my code way more so that I can keep track of what I am doing, and the code I write is actually decent.

At my company we recently made some restructuring of TFS, such as renaming folders and moving projects between folders. That all worked out very nicely - except that some files completely lost track of their history!

Sometimes, certain features don't work in my app if it's uploaded to the production track in Google Play.

It works in debug mode.
It works in release mode.
It works in the internal testing track.
...but it won't work in the production track? Y'know, the one that actually matters? Theoretically, there shouldn't really be a difference if the same exact APK was uploaded to the internal testing and production track, but... idk dude.

As a result, I implemented a secret way to test a feature in the production build (it's an app to remotely control OBS Studio): if the first connection you added is named "yayeet_" and you open the disclaimer, it tests the feature. Luckily, I got some of the stuff figured out, but I just thought the way I had to test it in production was dumb.

I asked my boss if we could move the website to our version control. Reason is because he would make changes and break something and didn't know what he did and so he spends the entire day trying to fix the issue and of he can't figure it out he then asks our only web developer to resolve the issue.

He didn't understand how we could keep it in sync with what is published when he makes changes.

Had to explain to him that's it's only to track changes. He still didn't understand.

How is this person my boss... Only one location for our website, doesn't track changes, and runs the backup on the same computer that hosts the website. Yes... He just modifies the hosting files...

Why, god why... Why does my track pad stop working everytime I boot back from Windows into linux.. It usually takes just a couple reboots within Linux and it's back up and going... but now it's stuck... ugh..
