Have you ever wondered we programmers have so many strong communities.... Stackoverflow, devRant, Reditt, etc...
No other profession has such communities... Why? Why?
Because, we haven't built one for them.... 😂😁61 -
I don't understand why so many people fight this war of tabs vs spaces. My colleagues elegantly solved the problem just not using indentation at all36
-
Confession: I am not a dev, I actually work on an IT helpdesk telling people how to turn on their PC's everyday.
It's soul destroying!!
My boyfriend is an Apple dev though, and I only joined DevRant to see if it would help me understand what he talks about 24/7...
I have very basic coding knowledge but still find this all so fascinating!
You guys are so smart, and can literally create anything in the blink of an eye.
Why are you guys generally so very under appreciated??
You also have a fantastic sense of humour! Haven't laughed at so many nerd-jokes in years!
Loving DevRant so far!
Keep up the great work! :)31 -
My last internship. When acquiring a new project and having to give an estimate the boss/sales guy always went to the programming team first to ask them what the estimate was and then communicated that back to the client(s).
Asked him why he does that because many companies don't:
Well, the programmers are going to write the software so why the hell would *I* be the one who gives the fucking estimates?
Yes that was a good boss.4 -
Made a app in react native when it was on .42 version.
By the time I finished developing it, react native was on .54 version with many components had deprecated.
Ffffffffffuuuuuuuuckkkkkk!!!!!!!!
Facebook why you make changes so fast.
*Crying in corner*15 -
DST is my arch enemy.
"Why did I get paid for 7 hours instead of 8?"
"Because you worked from 1:00 till 9:00"
"Yeah, that's 8 hours"
"No it wasn't"
"Why does this input field say invalid time for 02:00?"
"Because that time doesn't exist"
"Why are so many tests failing"
"Because they check timestamps and durations which don't make sense in non-continuous time"
October is even worse...6 -
Boss: We want this feature ASAP, how will it take from your time?
Me:*giving honest estimation* about 4 days, there are many details to handle..
Boss: oh, we need it tomorrow evening, I said to the client it'll be ready..
SO WHY YOU ASKING ME FOR ESTIMATION YOU F**
😠🤬12 -
I haven't checked my work email in a month or two.
We use slack, so every time someone needs me they just message me there or text me. It works nicely. I also dislike email in general.
Anyway: I looked at my inbox this morning, and again just now. I've gotten just over 900 emails today.
Why?
Tons of useless alerts on a shoddy as hell codebase. As an example: Every time a coworker uses a tool or lookup with a sub-par query, it ties up the single shared database long enough to generate response time alerts.
As a better example, there are many many many informational alerts that intentionally begin with "500 Internal" specifically to trigger an email alert. Why? I guess they were useful at some point?
There's just so much to fix...
And I guess I don't care enough.
On the bright side: this gives me a great reason to ignore my email!6 -
God damn it, i said so many times that this functionality is proof of concept and needs more investigation into technical/legal details...why the flugzeug mr account manager have you gone and emailed all your client accounts telling them we are now offering it?... why are you messaging me starting your sentence with "now that we provide..." god...damn...it4
-
Me: why are you using so many break tags?
Intern: Its the only way I can position this div below that form.
Me: *facepalm*11 -
Just saw a blue screen of death In the top of a taxi cab. Had no idea these kind of signs were running Windows. Why are so many companies buying licenses for Windows when they could so easily use Linux ?21
-
This might come off like i'm so full of myself, but its just true.
This probably happens to so many other girl devs as well, so this might be relatable.
Why can't guys at school, work, etc. just be friends with me? They often start liking me as more than a friend, causing me to disappoint them that I don't, and then they don't want to be friends anymore.
I get it, there aren't many developer, 'gamer', reasonably attractive girls out there, but damn it kinda sucks :/.31 -
piece of code: *not working*
me: okay, i can try this again later
me: *comments it out*
4 hours later
me: omfg why are there so many comments??? :( -
Headhunter: So how many years of experience do you have with X?
Me: Why does it matter? I have been a software engineer for a decade, I can pick up anything in a matter of weeks.
Headhunter: *writes in his notepad: 0 experience with X"*6 -
My life 😂 why can’t I just stick with one? So many lost hours figuring out the differences between distros, patching kernels, installing drivers, and for what?8
-
Me: So why did you drop the db?
Intern: I couldn't rename the Model I've just created.
Me: Your CV says you're a prolific Rails Dev.
Me: How many days you have left working here?
Intern: 3Months
Me: Just take 3 months off work.13 -
Each sticker on a race car increases speed by a small amount, which is why they all have so many. Same thing with laptops.3
-
Why do so many people refer to Firefox as "Mozilla"? But never refer to Chrome as "Google" or IE as "Microsoft" or...? That really irks me :/8
-
I'm not sure why so many people are against certain languages..
This industry changes overnight so I'm kinda willing to learn anything I need to make my f**king program work...5 -
Hey guys
So, why so many rants about Facebook now?
I already knew that Facebook sells our data for a few years.... Didn't anyone else knew before that stupid #deletefacebook campaign?11 -
Me at midnight: let's release a demo build
Me at 1 am: why are there so many bugs? Why won't it compile.
Me at 2 am: omg finally compiled. Runs it, buttons don't work. Closes it, reopens it. Buttons work.
Me at 3 am: let's write apologetic posts for the bugs, but post the version anyway
Me at 4 am: why do I advertise in so many places
Me at 5 am: let's update the patreon reward tiers
Me at 5:30 am: nah fuck this, going to bed.
Mom at 9 am: wake the hell up we need you to dig out a hill and build a stone wall around one side of the house.
Me: omg wtf why.
Me at 2:30 pm: why the hell are we doing this, I have so many bugs to patch and everyone knows they are there because I told them all!5 -
"Why are there so many programming languages? Why don't you guys all just program in binary?" A friend of mine some of you may remember, the same one who decided to select system32 when trying out some encryption software from the internet, and who put a shutdown script in the start up programs3
-
I was bored so I scanned through Dev.to and Medium. I lost the remnants of the little hope I had left for mankind...
JS this, Python that, JS that... and so much other mindless articles of exactly zero substance and headlines to make any self-respecting dev cringe for days.
I meant to write something else, too, but I'm too saddened now. I no longer wonder why so many of the fresher self-made "devs" are so idiotic of a breed...35 -
There's so many posts on here that say fuck apple or Microsoft only real programmers or computer users run Linux. Maybe step back and reflect why these companies got big. Maybe the programmers in their development teams are actually good. Maybe variety and competition and different focuses is good for us and consumers.19
-
ffs take it easy with those fucking Captchas. If I have to solve a fucking Captcha every fucking time I click on a fucking link I want to slap your face3
-
Walk from my office to the cafeteria.
Bump into this one kid, we both good, said sorry and moved on.
Team of what seems volleyball players run by. Nice legs.jpg. continue to walk. Say hi to people st cafeteria.
Damn near 10 mins in taco line...way too many kids. Hold up what are all these kids doing here?
Wall back to office, sit down...then it hits me.
I work at a college. Das why there are so many fucking kids.
Stopid man. -
Damn, I really love Vue! 🥰
It's so clean and refreshingly simple compared to the shitfuckery called AngularJS (should be renamed to AngularJK or AngularRIP btw.).
I don't understand why I haven't tried Vue sooner... much mind boggle, so regret, many thinking...16 -
The senior programmer at work commits so rarely that in 3 months I committed more than him in 3 years (e.g. 0 times in September)...
What’s the point of having a repo on bitbucket if most of the time the latest code version is only on his machine?
And why I have to recreate and repopulate the db every fucking time because he made so many changes to the structure, which of course conflicts with mine?5 -
It's been posted by a child in a forum so I shouldn't be evil, but it made me laugh 😂
The question was "why so many errors?"5 -
"Why does my app have so many bugs!?"
"Why does literally nothing work!?"
"How come you cant fix these problems soon enough?"
...
Me: "remember how you didnt account for testing in the budget or development plan?"
"No"
Me: "thats why."2 -
!rant
I hate Apple and I hate all their products and I hate everyone that thinks Apple is "innovating" and I don't know why so many developers use OSX when they can use Linux. A closed source company with a closed mind.37 -
Why is starting a C++ project so overly complicated and annoying?!
So many different compilers. So many ways to organize the files. So many inconsistencies between Linux and Windows. So many outdated/lacking tutorials. So many small problems.
Why is there almost no good C++ IDEs? Why is Visual Studio so bizarre? Why are the CMake official tutorials literally wrong? Why can't we have a standard way to share binaries? Why can't we have a standard way to structure project folders? Why is the linker so annoying to use?
Don't get me wrong, I quite like the language and I love how fast it is (one of the main reasons I decided to use it for my project, which is a game almost comparable to Factorio)... But why is simply starting to write code such a hassle?
I've been programming in Java for years and oh god I miss it so much. JARs are amazing. Packages are amazing. The JDK is amazing. Everything is standardized, even variable names.
I'm so tempted to make this game in Java...
But I can't. I would have a garbage collector in the way of its performance...11 -
What’s the deal with vim, that so many are so hyped about it?
Why don’t just use atom or vs code or brackets for example14 -
No offence to anyone but I'm wondering why so many people go for Google chrome while chromium browser provides about the exact same browsing experience and speed etc but without Google's proprietary tracking shit. I know not everyone cares about their privacy but still wondering.13
-
Sometimes I wonder:
Who actually cares?
About what I do
About what I make
About me.
Why put in effort if there is no different result? Why am I always sad? What ruins my day? Is there really hope? Why? So many life questions I want answered. Do I care too much? I definitely think way too much. Why am I so lazy. The questions I have.
Cheers,
To a better day.13 -
Why do so many companies think that frontend work can be stuffed at the end of the product development right before a release is expected.
And to top it off, expect all things to be working, smooth, animating, responsive, crisp, fast with 100 fucking lighthouse score.
🖕 To everyone who thinks frontend work is meh!, Not real programming and similar. Fuck you!7 -
*squirming in bed*
If it ain't broke don't fix it.. If it ain't broke don-WHAT THE FUCK IS "payment.needed2"??
Calm down, it's just some bad code but it works, you didn't write it, it's not your probl-WHY THE FUCK DO THE IF STATEMENTS HAVE SO MANY DUPLICATED LINES??
Sleep. Just sleep. -
That awkward moment when your family and friends sit behind you and ask questions;
What is this you're typing on the screen?
Why words have different colors?
Why so many tabs?
How do you type so fast?
....... and more
Share yours.10 -
Maybe it's an unpopular take, but I don't get why so many people keep whining about debugging. If you hate debugging so much, why would you become a programmer in the first place? Wouldn't you be miserable most of your working time?9
-
taxes. what the actual fuck? I finally graduated and got my first 6 figure job, only to find out the federal government basically takes 1/3 of my pay??? WHAT??? Why are we all okay with this? I feel fucking robbed. I worked so hard to get here, so many sleepless nights, so many all nighters studying, just to get 1/3 of my money stolen from me? what the fuck?????49
-
Glad someone is suing them. Why the fuck would apple treat devs like shit. Why do you want 30% of every penny I make? Then why the fuck do I have to pay you $100 every year? And what about not allowing me to choose my own payment system? Some are understandable but you still can't threaten to remove app from store if the dev don't want to do what's profitable for you.
So many examples of victims - Hey, Spotify and there's a ton of independent devs out there who have been exploited so far.
Your platform is attractive to users because of those thousands of devs who build apps despite your greedy policies, so fucking treat them with respect.20 -
So many years of programming and it's still complicated to explain to my parents why lecturers at university won't spend time to help me debug my code on big projects
And that doesn't mean that I'm -not learning to code- if I don't receive help on finding bugs2 -
WHY Atom, when I explicitly select a suggestion do you NOT ACTUALLY AUTOCOMPLETE THE SUGGESTION ?
I have configured so many fucking settings to try to avoid this why is it that I have to explicitly select my option 3 and 4 times before you ACTUALLY auto fill it.
I use you specifically FOR the auto complete function and you FUCK ME OVER ON IT.
I can just not seem to find a text editor or IDE that doesn't annoy the shit out of me one way or the other7 -
I don't get it why there are so many people out, that think testing stupid model classes with getters and setter is needed.
Dude. There is no logic in this class ... it's pure data that gets not modified there (well except if you call the setter)
I've wasted way too much time writting useless unit test because some ppl want to masturbate on 100% code coverage 🤦🏻♂️12 -
Web, Desktop, Mobile, Front, Back, Ops, Data, etc. Why is there so many cool possibilities ? ! I can't decide.8
-
Java 12 is here.
Why so many releases now.
It was good earlier, years taken for next release.
Atleast we could update our resumes properly.15 -
#heavyrant
AGAIN !!! MICROSOFT (MAY GOD SEND THEM TO HELL) GAVE A DEADLY BLOW TO SOMETHING I USED TO LOVE !!
This new UI update is just aweful, i mean, i love github, i work using github, i do so many things with it, or should i say that i used to ....
This update seems so un-natural, it just doesn't fit.
Why would the collabs be shown so obviously ??
Why would the main window be so narrow while the rest is widescreen ????
My eyes get tired so quickly when i use it now.
It used to be something nice, easy to use, but now it is more like a social media than a professional coding tool.
I HATE YOU MISCROSOT WHAT EVER YOU TOUCH TURNS TO BE A SHIT HOLE25 -
Why do so many online resources still change quote characters in the code for the curly ones? It's 2023, how hard is it to add a fucking rule to skip conversion inside the <code> blocks?9
-
When the so called "css expert" ask you why you're implementing so many things in @media all and (max-width: 800px) because it "doesn't change anything"
I had to teach him about responsive web design and chrome developer tools mobile emulation...3 -
14,190 emails deleted. I got too damn many emails this week at work alone. I'm scared to check my personal emails5
-
I have a question to my fellow developers...
Why is AI so important these days... I mean... Wouldn't we just lose jobs (so many vompanies laying of emloyees thanks to automation)? Isn't this kinda detrimental?
By AI, I mean robots, automation, etc... Not the AI in say, video gaming or chatbots.28 -
I am .net developer which doesn't work with .net core(yet) and obviously i have windows as work os, while at home elementary OS is my main(again dual booting win10). I don't get why so many linux/windows rants are around. Get best of both worlds. I personally constantly need both and each are very different and better at handling different stuff, so why don't you (fanboys) stop it :)3
-
Security!
Offensive and defensive at both code and infrastructure levels.
So many times I see devs not give a flying pancake about security. Whether it be rolling integers for sql injection or permission guarding to prevent someone executing something they shouldn't.
Why is security in this industry always the last thing to be concerned about when it's the first thing that's going to kill your business.
😓7 -
A programmer can code.
A developer is a jack of all trades jumping into any stack and mastering the basics in a weekend.
So why the fuck can't I grasp humans. Their code is spaghetti....
Debugging gives way to many problems...
Atleast my personal code has a feature creep and for once it's a good thing!3 -
Why the hell do so many Android games require internet? I want to play it in undergound when I have nothing better to do! If I had Internet I could be doing something usefull instead of playing stupid games! Even devRant survives by caching in the stations and doesn't f***ing close whenever I'm offline!5
-
I will smash your fucking nerf gun over your head. Why is 30-40 yr old men acting like my kids even a thing. No other industry treats talent like infants. Nor does any other industry seem to have so many adult children present. </rant>9
-
I wonder so many devs hate Windows then why dont we stop creating products for it and start migrating all major projects (like games and software) to linux.7
-
Started working as a developer about 2 months ago and on the first day of of work I was tought how to make coffee.
I couldn't understand why is coffee so important to the everyone in the company. I didn't drink the coffee for the first 2 week.
Now after many sleepless nights spent coding i then realise why the people worship the drink so much.
People get very pissed when they go to coffee machine and find that there is no coffee then the last person to have a cup is going to be shouted at and at times even get insulted.
Now coffee is my fuel and cant do much without it.6 -
tldr; devRant is great
My favorite part of devRant is I ask an opinion on a technology and so many people give me alternatives or ideas to look into and learn about instead. This is why I enjoy this community I'm always learning about new things i probably wouldn't have heard about otherwise. Or at least wouldn't have run into for a long while. Thank you all1 -
Just created my first discord server after seeing so many people from here mention it. The questions I have are, why? What makes it better than say slack or something else? Is it prone to spam or bots? How is it for gaming?8
-
internet connection "speed" in Germany might be the reason why so many people still queuing up on the roads on their way to an office despite being allowed to work from home at least in theory10
-
why do so many programmers have so little regard for grammar/syntax, spelling and formatting when it comes to written communication?? it's not as though you can get away with ignoring their analogues when coding!4
-
Why do so many beginners gave this retarded notion that freelancing is easy? Little shits really expect to read one HTML tutorial and start making money off the internet?7
-
Roommate's laptop.
Only 1 chrome tab open, why so many processes in Task Manager. Should I tell him to format it?11 -
Started learning PHP bcuz @dfox loves it. Why not me?
(instantly)
WHY IS THERE SO MANY -> SIGNS???????
IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE AN ARROW AT ALL!!!!!!!!
IT SHOULD BE AT LEAST --> TO LOOK BETTER!!!!!
UUUURRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
(stops learning a few hours ago, got a refund)
(curses david)6 -
We have so many meetings.
"I once had a meeting which was to discuss how to organize meetings on how to manage tech debts"
"God knows WHY!"3 -
I just love when:
Programmer: I just hate people working with X language. They are so average and can't reach a thing...
Me: Yes, of course, but you also work but with the X full-time, right?
Programmer: Well yes, why?
Me: oh nothing, just wondered...
And in my career I've seen so many cases like this... They all whine that X is bad, Y is for noobs but still continue to work with it themselves...4 -
My two cent: Java is fucking terrible for computer science. Why the fuck would you teach somebody such a verbose language with so many unwritten rules?
If you really want your students to learn about computer, why not C? Java has no pointer, no passed by reference, no memory management, a lots of obscure classes structure and design pattern, this shit is garbage. The student will almost never has contact with the compiler, many don't even know of existence of a compiler.
Java is so enterprise focused and just fucked up for educating purpose. And I say it as somebody who (still) uses it as main language.
If you want your students to be productive and learn about software engineering, why not Python? Things are simple in Python can can be done way easier without students becoming code monkeys (assuming they don't use for each task a whole library). I mean java takes who god damn class and an explicitly declared entry point which is btw. fucking verbose to print something into the console.
Fuck Java.17 -
Why do so many programmers who aren't developing for Mac/iOS use Macs for their job? Why not use Linux and get a better specced computer for the same price?20
-
My boss: Can you write something to append the product names with their descriptions?
Sure. Sure you want that?
Yes. Asap please.
Okay, I'll finish it this today.
*Done
Finished it, want me to publish this to production?
Yeah.
(One week later)
Did you put those name changes online?
Yes, why.
Oh damn, your co-worker, D. Trump, has changed a lot of the names so they index better on Google. You should check those kind of things before changing it online.
Right..
Concerns a few thousand products. Long story hah
Tldr; updated many product names overriding many hours of manual labour.7 -
Why is flutter so unbelievably awesome?
It makes development soooo much quicker and easier compared to native java/kotlin/swift...so much simpler on so many levels, that it still feels somehow ..*wrong*...to me....10 -
Been getting a lot of troll / clown / clueless (?) comments on my posts recently. Select favorites include:
"Why do you have a login form on your website?" wut
"Why didn't you throw away that API key?" wut
"Why do you even need to access your apps' servers?" wut
There are just SO many amazing devs here who have NEVER had do any of those things, I'm quite literally an idiot and don't know what I'm doing, sorry for my ignorance. I'd forgotten that there is only exactly one way to build software, I wish I'd done it "that" way sooner! Foolish me.
Really not sure if trolls, clowns, or clueless. Don't care. 🤡🤡🤡12 -
Why are such many people afraid of dying instead being happy for being still alive?
I mean - if you die, it happens within some seconds ... done.
But on the other side, every other minute of your life, you just don't die.
So dying is statistically negligible.18 -
Sometimes I just HATE Google.
No, this is NOT because they keep all your data, are evil and all the usual things. I just think they suck, yes there are super cool things and a lot of things are just the best in the field but I just feel like we could do better, there are so many smart people out there I just do not understand why everything is taking so much time.
PS. Just deleted all my browsing histroy accidentally because I didn't read the small print - in the picture attatched.7 -
Why there are so many commercials about driving safe, but none about exploiting the dangers of downloading random software from phishy sites?4
-
Why the hell is JS so terrible, and why do so many people resort to using is as a back end. So many packages, so many outdated dependencies. My coworkers and friends have heard me rant about my constant frustration with this terrible setup.
I understand the need for dynamic html but why have we bastardized this language to the extent we have.
Keep your projects up to date, it saves people a lot of trouble in the future.8 -
Why so many recent questions about which code editor to use?
P.S. Nice to see vscode getting some recognition.8 -
When someone asks me a tecnical question in something i'm interested in:
"It works like this ... Oh i also should explain you how processors work ... Anyway, when a bufferoverflow arises ... And thats how crypthography works ... and so does blockchain work ... anf thats why bitcoin is causing way too many stress on the power grid."7 -
So I'm taking embedded systems subject in my masters course. They have mixed this subject's content with electrical engineering and I'm a computer science graduate. Everything was perfect until I reached to GPIO board.
Wtf is this shit?
Why it has so many holes and what are they for?
What I'm supposed to do with it?
What is ground? Transistor?
Why I'm connecting to two pins only instead of the 4 pins of a button?
Thanks to pi4j i think i will pass the subject!2 -
Why have so many fucking websites the signup form in the start page but you have to click in the menu to get to the login?!
I signup only once but I have to fucking log in every single time I go to the page!!!11
Annoying...2 -
Holy Mother of casts.
Just stumbled across a line that started with (((((( because it has so many casts in it...
That's why you don't use instanceof kids.4 -
Im learning Advanced Computing in a institute. Prior to that I have done many projects with Unity 3D, MEAN and C#. But guy who is teaching is very rude every time to the class. 'you people are stupid' 'you cant do anything on your own' 'that's why your here'. And Im self tought programer so Im getting really angry at such comments. How to deal with this?? 😥😫4
-
Why is OOP hated, here?
How is functional programming much better than OOP? (as stated by so many peole here)18 -
That moment when you change your username because you a get a bit too paranoid of your stalker-ish manager finding you here
But i start to get why so many people want to divide their online footprint into as many instances as possible, the less is know, the less traceable you are14 -
I HATE my router
Why the hell did virgin media think it was a good idea to NOT let me port forward ports LESS THAN I’ve already set up
WHO THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?!?
Its so fucking annoying, I’ve had to remove all of my set up ports just to add ports with low values too many times AaaAAAaa3 -
When your self-proclaimed "senior frontend web developer with 4 years experience" colleague asks you for the difference between "div .x" and "div.x" in CSS. That is when you understand why so many developers don't like having to work with designers.9
-
After reading so many peoples rants about Wix ads, I have been asking myself, "Why in the fuck are people on here seeing Wix ads? What in the hell happened to their adblock?! Did their adblock quit? Is adblock missing? Why is no one concerned that adblock is missing?! We need milk cartons and a search party formed ASAP!"undefined probably way less funny than i think it is stupid ass rant by me adblock muthafucka do you use it?1
-
Working on another SaaS product, and now I've run into a "fun" conundrum that is hard to determine cleanly in an automated fashion.
I'm certain it's stupid bullshit opinionated conventions like this as to why so many devs are driven to burnout and bitterness...3 -
I installed an ad blocker, less than three months ago, on my phone.
Experience has been great, but then I decided to check how many hosts it has blocked.
More than 100,000 queries blocked. All ads.
Seriously, what the hell? Why so many ads on the internet?10 -
As someone who uses UNIX and UNIX-like systems on a daily basis, and someone dealing with computer support in a school, I experience so, so many issues, many of which others have already ranted about.
For no reason at all, I find it incredibly frustrating how many high school students' understanding of sudo is limited to this:
Student: Hey, isn't sudo the minecraft command
Me: Erm
Student: You know, the one skeppy uses... to troll players? Anyway, you're doing it wrong. There should be a slash before you run the command
Me: aaargh.
and so on. Happens probably every 10th time I invoke sudo.
I mean, really? Surely these kids, with all their complaints and lines: hacking into the mainframe/whats the admin password/why did you block my VPN/ and so on, would know what sudo is. But NO, they just don't seem to get it. Sometimes I lose my hope in the futures of these kids.5 -
[Last year me]: Dammit, javascript is the worst language ever! Where are my var types? Why are there so many frameworks? Why the people are using it? Why? Why?
[Today me after updating my Linkedin profile with my javascript experience and receiving some good job offers almost instantly]: Oh good Lord, thank you for giving Mr. Eich the wisdom to create such a beautiful language, I'll build a new framework as a sacrifice to show my gratitute.1 -
i'm curious... to anyone on here who does hiring, why do companies always expect someone to already have experience with high volume systems. i've been a php dev for 10+ years but am having the hardest time finding a job and i have been turned down so many times because they expect me to have worked on a system with millions of users and terabytes worth of data already. it's beyond frustrating
-
I almost fired off an update query without a where clause on the live db. I stopped at the last second. I'm now having survivors guilt. Why me? Why was I saved when so many before me didn't make it? 😁4
-
But fuck, why are so many so called devs so fucking stupid?
Or have life decided that I should get all the stupid ones?
If the last one is true, Am I the Jesus for sysadmins?2 -
!dev I don't understand why in job ads they write: "Looking for 20 developers". What, are they raising a farm? LoL. Why so many developers.. especially if it's for a small company?5
-
My area of focus is switching between so many areas of focus without actually having the time to do so. Why is a day only 24 hours long :(1
-
Why is it that so many developers have trash tier hardware? Sometimes I feel like 90% of developers are hardware retards. You work on a computer all day why the fuck are you running one from the early 2,000's that takes a year to boot and can barely run the applications you need? Hardware is a lot cheaper than time and better hardware will save a huge amount of time. And why the fuck do so many devs use laptops? Trashy little craptastic aluminium shit cans folding under the weight of the heat they produce. The more work you do the slower they go. Meanwhile I sit back on my heavily over clocked, water cooled, desktop and fly through workloads that laptop users wouldn't begin to be able to think about. So basically buy a desktop with high end hardware and you'll be amazed what you can get done and how much less painful stuff will be. And if you need to go mobile just grab a Chromebook and remote into your desktop. You'll be happy you did.20

"Hey guys, what's up?" 😡😡😡
Why do so many people on YouTube begin their fucking videos with a pointless question noone is able to answer and which no one would acknowledge even if they did somehow manage to answer? What's up is an automatic thumbs down and fuck you.5 -
How the fuck did my company decide a single toilet stall is enough? Are they really this cheap? Why must I go to the bathroom three times before I can actually use it? Why do they think one is enough for 100 male employees? In their defence, they do have urinals, but I'm not comfortable using them.
So many questions and I STILL NEED TO GO!4 -
I don't know why they made so many algorithms, data structures and big O questions during interview, when all they wanted me to do was to maintain some legacy, tight coupled, spaghetti code with no architecture, documentation, tests nor any kind of engineering behind :/1
-
My biggest coding motivator is "this thing I'm using is crappy let's replace it" and that's why I have so many unfinished projects.15
-
I know this is sort of off topic but I think Psychology is pretty great sometimes and while it doesn't explain why we behave the way we do, it does a great job studying it, at least. So to explain why fake news is so rampant and why despite us being in the middle of the technology age, so many are still ignorant, they conducted a study on what makes a source credible. It's a very long and thorough study, so I will like it for you to read, but the gist of it is this: any long text which is too boring to read word for word is automatically taken for truth. Images add credibility. And simply adding a reference - even if it isn't a credible reference or if it's not related to the information at all - will make readers assume truth, and most won't even think to validate the links.
Here's the full story:

So, apparently we need to establish an estimate before I start working on a task.
Why not rather let me get on and do the task, see how many hours it takes and then pay me accordingly?
This is for a freelance gig, just FYI6 -
Have you ever wondered why programmers have so many strong communities like devRant, StackOverflow, Reddit ect. and no other professions has such communities?
Becoz we haven't built one for them.
😐🤝9 -
How can so many devs have NO FUCKING CLUE what DNS is or how it works
FFS the amount of times ive had to tell devs to clear their dns cache when the browser tells them right in their fucking face a nxdomain error after deployment of a new test system and they just come screaming in confusion why its not working is entirely too high7 -
Why do people not use search engines?
Like there exist so many good search engines and you still ask a question that can be answered by searching 2 minutes on the internet???
You could save yourself and others so much fucking time!!!7 -
Why is sleep not a choice. I have code to write but my body and mind wont let me stay up.
Too many projects so little time
No one to help 🙃
Sleep is really a devs enemy 🙆🏾♂️12 -
I’m using Devrant sporadically due to my lack of time and I really enjoyed it back in the early days. I see more and more scammers/spammers posting here and I feel like I’m not in the right place to be posting/sharing/ranting.
My question: is someone or more than one person here actually maintaining Devrant ? Why so many scammy accounts here ?8 -
Legit question: Why are there so many people coding in javascript while so many people are saying it is actually a bad language? Why is everybody coding in a "bad" language?11
-
PM:"I don't care how you dev build it, those are tech details, not my business, I only care about the business domain."
sounds familiar?
this is the main reason why so many projects failed, can you image any professional use such an asshole statement in other industry.1 -
I tried to watch netflix ‘13 Reasons Why’ series after reading article about ‘scientists found a 13.3 percent increase in teenagers’ deaths from suicide”
source: https://theverge.com/2019/5/...
I started scrolling trough the show after second episode cause it was so boring and predictable.
Maybe I’m just to old or maybe don’t understand USA school system or maybe I watched way to many typical movies about how the ‘popular group of teenagers’ make other teenagers life a nightmare ( Including scary movie and Venezuelan telenovelas ).
Can anybody who got interested into the show write why it is so cool or depressing ?10 -
I opened devrant with this rant in mind and the first thing i saw is a post about someones boss getting killed...
Fucking hell does someone have good news?
Everywhere i look is pain. Why is this world so cruel!?!?!
Why is there war Why did so many people get killed Why Why Why
My only safe place is while coding, this distracts me from this whole world. I create my own world while coding and dive deep into it. Its one of those things keeping me alive.4 -
Why does the content of my comment have to disappear when I accidentally click next to the post button?!
So many times I wanted to comment something, lost the content and said 'fuck this' because of it.
Just keep the string for as long as I'm on the same rant and not reply to a different person..2 -
I don't understand why we have so many apps on the smartphones. I mean, we don't use "apps" for the desktop. We just use the browser and visit the webpage. Why can' t we do the same on smartphones? They do have mobile versions...
(In fact I do, but many ppl use apps like Twitter, Reddit, Facebook instead of just visiting the webpage). For me it's just waste of memory space.6 -
Don't like the way how to do something? Witte software for it! You need something automated? Develop the autonation algorithms! Don't like how an open source application works? Change it! Don't like how the closed source application works? Fucking reverse engineer and patch it!
Being a developer opens incredibly man doors in the world of information technology, that technology that drives our world, society and so, so many parts of everyone's life. So why on earth wouldn't you want to be a developer?2 -
Just curious why I see so many devs drooling over Lenovo devices... I personally think they are some of the worst designed hardware around but seems like I'm in the miniscule minority here...7
-
That moment your senior gets an email saying the company was bought over. Should i worry?... Why did i not get the mail?.. So many questions. Not sure if i should even worry.7
-
I was asked the other day by a young dev why I prefer C# over Java.
So I responded by asking him why Java over C#?
Of course he replied "Its what we were taught at University"
Ah, well, there you go then, I wasn't.
Must be the grey hair, but I have seen so many languages come and go that they all look the same to me, so I just use whatever comes to hand these days.3 -
What's with Angular? Why are there so many Job Openings for Angular in India? It's like every recruiter is asking Angular. And the pay is much more than the backend Dev positions. Just because its frontend. I feel voilated for being a backend dev.3
-
For fuck's sake, why do so many engineering professors use Comic Sans in their power points and documents?!? These are incredibly intelligent people, so how can they be so ignorant? We all have to suffer as a result... Honestly, has nobody ever had the balls to tell them to change their fucking font because it is ugly as sin, hurts the eyes, and is super childish? Fuck all those people who insist on using Comic Sans. You all deserve to spend time burning in hell for your cruelty. Better yet - sir who invented Comic Sans: go fuck yourself and burn in hell.9
-
I love what I do, I'm passionate about what I do and at times I'd rather be home coding than at work in a meeting. While coding is amazing, I can see how someone could become overwhelmed. I can see why people are scared of programming. Not everyone needs to learn how to code so I don't see why so many people are pushing this "everyone should code" agenda2
-
So I was just wondering, how many of you here use FreeBsd and why?
Is there a big difference between BSD and Linux?
Are there many BSD servers out there?7 -
Why do so many instructors/tutorials/books leave the comma out of “Hello, world?” It bugs the shit out of me. I know they know better...10
-
I've now spent 6 hours trying to find a way to do something similar, as you can do in Neo4j, where you find relations up to depth 5, in PostgreSQL.
The issue is, I have to tables. One with persons, another one with relations (incoming ID and outgoing ID) to have a many to many relationship.
I'm at the point where I just don't care getting it to work. In Neo4j it's a fucking one liner, so why the fuck am I getting assigned to do this in PostgreSQL?
To prove a point? Well fuck you, I'm done with this shit.3 -
during a programming introduction course on loops my pals started writing `for` loops instead of `while` loops like so:
`for (;expression;) {}`
spent weeks explaining why it's wrong. needless to say, they still do it. had to hinder myself from ripping my hair off my head11 -
Is it good or bad that the rest of my team is working on the large (shoddilly built) apps but I'm on the side building analytics, reporting, and other tools? (basically telling people why there are so many problems with their app).1

Why does VC++ deployment have to be so painful? So many flavors of MSVRC, so little time. And don't get me started on the D3DCompile_*.DLL mess.

Recently I wondered why so many people complained about Windows 10. I had no issues, no crashes, and no bluescreens. Everything was fine.
Then the "anniversary update" installed. After days of restoring partitions, reinstalling, boot repairs and blue screens I realized Windows 10 is now incompatible with my PC.
Well, good thing MS extended support for Windows 7... -
(Not a rant)
New to devRant :^)
Tell me the reasons why you started programming.
I want to know since there are so many devs out there..8 -
"There is a reason that we keep our variables private. We don’t want anyone else to depend on them. We want to keep the freedom to change their type or implementation on a whim or an impulse. Why, then, do so many programmers automatically add getters and setters to their objects, exposing their private variables as if they were public?"

why is every auth provider utter and complete shit?
why are docs and tutorials that try to teach auth so complete shit?
No wonder there are so many security holes everywhere, nobody bothers to make it simple for the next person.
Next time people that cry about security/bad auth, and work in that field, this one is for you:5 -
Omfgggggggggggggggggggg
Fuck you typescript.
A whole day wasted working on react native pull to refresh bug, wondering why the fucking hell shit doesn't even appear when u try to pull. And so many other weird shit like touchable opacity not showing up.
Guess what was the problem? Fucking typescript importing shit from react-native-gesture-handler.
Btw I live and breathe typescript. I appreciate typescript everyday but for today fuck you typescript.3 -
There are too many people that consider software engineering a "job". Anyone else here love the process, people and programming? How do people end up at these bad companies and WHY DO THEY STAY??!?!?! There is so much demand for programmers, designers, software engineers, et al. Such that I do not understand how people stay at these companies that hire people who want to make money instead of code.2
-
Why does college have to have so many core classes? I'm a Computer Science major, I don't want to learn about the history of the economy or chemistry, I just want to code! About to finish my first semester of my second year and I've only taken 3 computer-related courses, and about 15 useless cores that add nothing to my education9
-
Had a lot of folders with pictures in them in a directory and I'm not kidding, I did 'mv /* .' instead of 'mv ./* .'
Immediately stopped it but a couple hundred files were moved.
Looks like mostly jpgs but also some Python scripts... Not sure why I'm so stupid..
First time I've been happy to see so many permission denied's..
I'd like to clone myself and then have myself punch myself in the face..3 -
Why do Apple have to hide the ”request desktop version” button behind the refresh button on the Ipad?
I get Idea. They problably thought it like you refresh as desktop site. But it took me ages to find out how to request desktop site!
Why cant it just be like chrome and have the settings and tools behind a menu where everything is.
And this is just one of many of Apple products flaws! Shame on you Apple!
If you wonder why i even use a ipad it’s because it’s a school ipad that is locked so we cant install apps.6 -
Friend asked me this:
"So if PHP is that bad, why there are still so many job offers for PHP devs?"10 -
Noooooo... all I wanted is to quickly reboot to Ubuntu! Why Windows, why?!?!?! So much time wasted staring at this screen, so many lines of unwritten code...6
-
Why do I even go back to https://www.theverge.com/ ? Why ?
So, I quote :
"Sandra L., who also requested that I withhold her surname, used Examity for a midterm in her astronomy class at Ocean County College in New Jersey"
How many Sandras in astronomy classes do you think they have at Ocean County College in New Jersey?
"We protect identity of sources"5 -
I want to talk about media queries.
THERE ARE SO MANY FUCKING VIEWPORTS TO SUPPORT.
Seriously, why hasn't this shit been standardised; why does every new device *have* to be different dimensions from the rest?
Couldn't we have a S, M and LG scale for mobile, tablet and desktop????
Then we've got the fucking pleasure of DPR, as if it wasn't hard enough to be comprehensive for your shitty iPhone 5s.
Fuck you.4 -
For the fucks sake why doesn't githubs mobile version show the stars/forks on a repo? 😠
If I'm on github on a phone it means I clicked a fucking link so I want to see how many stars the repo has or star it myself for later.
Without the star rating I might as well search a forum for libraries because the main reason I use github is so that I can see how many people are using the code so I know it's going to be maintained in the future.
It's such a big oversight on a otherwise fucking awesome service3 -
Why? Why?
Of you, you were the last I've expected such failure and misery...
Not once, not twice, but I have you a chance so many fucking times...
I won't deny it, we've been through good times, done so may things together, and I admit that I'd never be able to work without you.... this codependence is just too damn fixated...
But, I think I should part ways with you, I'll visit sometimes, not just to have fun, but mostly because of work matter.
Sorry Linux, you've failed me, I'm leaving you for Windows.3 -
Today I think it became apparent why we have so many data and prod issues...
No one understands SOLID design principals... Particularly Separation of Concern. No wonder all the Spring (DI) modules look like a mess of God functions that are impossible to reuse and difficult to extend...3 -
I hate fucking SteamVR stuff so much. I don't know why, but Valve has not set up the plugins in a way that makes any sense. I have so many workarounds in the project I'm working on it makes me sick.
-
Single page apps? Why are there not more complaints?
Why are there so many ways to "build" these apps? Where are the standards?
Also, what do you prefer, framework wise? Please don't say Ember.10 -
Why are there so many "curated list of X" on Github? I really liked browsing the trending page because I found several gems of OSS in it. But nowadays it seems chinese course materials, "curated lists" and so-called "H4Xx0r-Res0urces" share the space on the trending page. Has Facebook arrived on Github?2
-
I just found out why so many accounts of mine had a lot of login attempts recently. Turns out Epic Games had a leak in 2016 with no info to its users about it. So my email and default shitty password i dont use anymore but for useless accounts got leaked...4

Alright so I've been thinking of taking my skills to the next level and would like to know a few things from PRO C++ DEV out there
1. Is it possible to set up a production level web server with c++, if so why don't i see many and why are there so many with nodejs etc..
2. Client side web pages without Javascript, possible?
3. Well I forgot the other questions I wanted to ask, if I do remember you'd be able to find them in the comments
I believe in a single universal language for coding, hence I place forth such questions9 -
Putting aside my ordinary moral horror for a moment I'd like to comment on rust.
I have never seen a language that seems to have very limited use that so many people make a point of pointing out their use of so proudly and I have to wonder why.24 -
As a dev, not a manager, what's the maximum number of projects you can handle at once?
I know it depends on the workload but wanna see how others do on average.
Literally fried up with so many projects put on my shoulders after the exodus from my company since they f-ed up bonuses and hikes.
Also, why does every manager think their project is The Priority one? Selfish assholes.6 -
Why does the sqlite SUM function round down values?? WHY?
10333.03 is printed as 10333
This has caused me so many problems?
What is the solution to this?2 -
The new MacBooks look so nice. And Mojave is pretty nice, and dark theme! And the touch bar! The price is quite high but for the first time I'm actually debating getting one... Almost. But:
Why no escape key apple! You were so close! A physical escape key at the cost of your touch bar being 1 inch smaller! Is that too much to ask!
Many programmers use Mac. I can see why, it's a bsd variant, it's almost a Linux box except it's supported and accepted by the non-geeks of the world.
Many programmers use Vim! It's great!
So it stands to reason that a "not insignificant" amount of Mac users use Vim. Why would you do this to us? Or at least offer a "Vim model! With physical escape key, some nice out of the box vim buttons for the touch bar, a greatly inflated pricetag... Yknow, the works!" But nothing?! You almost had me apple.6 -
As a web developer who focuses on accessibility, why is it so goddamn hard to get buy-in for accessible design?!
If you design to be the most accessible possible regular users benefit from an experience that works, for as many people as possible, in more situations than most test for normally!5 -
I have a huge axe to grind about companies sending me emails I have not consented to. Sometimes they have a checkbox for it, which I always, ALWAYS make sure I do not check. Sometimes they just add you automatically as soon as you enter your email adress.
Sometimes the 'Unsubscribe' link leads to a dead page, or just doesn't work.
And sometimes... They send you a bunch of emails to let you know they will absolutely stop sending you emails 😑
Why. Why? WHY? WHYYYYY?!?!?
Why are so many, even otherwise respected and very customer satisfaction minded companies so disgustingly cavalier or downright dirty about emails?
Even after this whole GDPR thing! -
I love devRant, show new prespective and many related story around me and my job.
For me devRant is like medicine, help me smile and make my good mood sometime.
But, also like medicine I only open the app on spare time or when I need it.
I just curious why so many people so addicted to this, also I see some user maybe like 90% exist and continously comment on every rant that I open.
Maybe our reference/priority is different, I prefer playing game mostly.
Well that what I think, just random spawning before go to sleep mode.13 -
I'm just a developer. So why the heck do I have to spend whole days talking to potential bussiness partners, discussing possible deals, preparing plan for next year and organizing various coworkers (including some managers) to fulfil the other deal that I haven't helped to negotiate. If I wanted to track so many things, speak to so many people and not write a single line of code whole days, I would have became manager and would ask for different salary!2
-
Why people tries to run kali Linux in their android?????
Kali is made for computer not for androids then why so many people like to install it in their cheap android 😡😡😡1 -
Spent two hours looking all over my code with so many debuggers I was about to crap and BOOM found you can't use "dec" for a table or string name in PHP. Just typing December would have saved me hours. Not sure why but put ticks around it and everything was fine. I put this one on htmltypos.com so others can figure it out. May be `dec` is shorthand for dechex....?3
-
Sometimes I really don't understand why so many CS students take pride in talking in a highly disrespectful manner about their professors. While it is true that not all professors are upto the mark, but imo that still is no reason to use derogatory language for someone senior to you, which sadly is quite common these days.3
-
Why are there so many mobile apps trying to teach children coding through obscure logic puzzles? Is it really that difficult to open a text editor and the docs side by side and learn.2
-
Why Android uses so many quirky features in Java, like inner and anonymous classes, callbacks and nested generics?
I searched everywhere for the reason but can't find why, only how.
I rarely use these features outside of Android development.4 -
Me before having to implement a bit more advanced content structure for the client: There are so many headless CMSes out there
Me after: Why the fuck are there no healdess CMSes whatsoever?7 -
Why the fuck is midnight 00:00 and midday 12:00? Every other hour is the same for Am and Pm in 12 hour time. I can’t find any explanation other than all of humanity being unable to count.
All date/time libraries must encounter this bullshit. There are so many similar levels of bullshit with everything related to time handling. Time zones, stamp formats, minimum intervals overflows are all so fucked.14 -
Why do we still speak in direct DNS?
I don't know about you, but I have observed so many DNS mishaps in my day, and also have observed that developers and non-devs consistently fail to have a succinct mental model of how to set DNS properly for a website.
There are lots of services that make setting DNS easier than ever, but I'm kind of surprised so many people still have to think directly in terms of CNAMES, APEX DOMAINS, and all the direct domain knowledge of DNS.
Can't we have a higher level abstraction that compiles to DNS with more safety guards? Sure, let me dip into DNS when I need to, but why are DNS settings tables still such a normal thing?
I write Ruby code so I don't have to write C code. I'm sure there are attempts in DNS abstraction, but the fact that I haven't come across them means they are probably still too leaky or just not mainstream.
Thoughts on the matter?4 -
Why many students use bluej while eclipse is far better?
I want to be a programmer so, in future probably I will join any college or something.
So, I want to know what is special in bluej That eclipse can't fulfill?5 -
Side project showoff
Why isn't it enough to develop a tool that even the end user likes? So many challenges to get it through to the right people.
I launched this project in January. Didn't have anything to do for the year before when I got back home from my internship. So made this lol.
Any feedback is welcome.
www.kwerious.com13 -
Why are developers so excited about coding assistants if they still make so many wrong and annoying suggestions? Why would anyone even pay for such a service?8
-
Why is it so easy to just keeping thinking to yourself, I really want to do this project. Then literally never want to actually touch it, so many great ideas filling up multiple text files strewn between devices. Stupid motivation.
-
Honestly, why do so many resources offer quizes to learn programming? How on earth are you supposed to learn programming by doing fucking quizes?!
-
Does anyone else hate the Facebook SDK or is it just me?
You have to jump through so many hoops and get different tokens for different end points. Why???
Take a lesson from Google. Get an API key and send a get request. Simple. -
Fucking node.js module directories are so goddamn bloated !
Why are so many fucking files necessary ? WHY ?17 -
So as i was exporting the apk file from unity, unity crashed and it caused a BSOD
I had a fucking heart attack because i coding from 16 hours straight
But my shit is still there
I finally understand why do many people use a MacBook pro for work5 -
🚽🪠I shitted like 5-7 times today💩. Dont even know exactly how many. This cant be normal. How is it possible for so much shit to be inside me? Where does it fit? Im full of shit. Maybe thats why job interviews and schools are also full of shit cause they all shit 10 times a day. I have to flush toilet at least 2 times so all the shit can go through. Its that big of a shit4
-
Why did I ever move to a cubicle in a more densely populated area? (>_<)
So many people constantly talking. It's like it's a requirement to be loud to be on this floor!2 -
I’ve been on devRant for a very short period of time and I’ve seen too many posts about PHP fucking people in the ass.
Is it really that bad?(I’m an embedded systems geek so don’t ask me why I don’t know anything about PHP)18 -
Why does java have so many nonsensical limitations? Why? Why can't we have multiple heritage? Why can't we have friend classes? Why can't we make static abstract methods? Oracle, PLEASE.9

Why the fuck isnt pythons tabbed loop thing something that's configurable?
So many things to like about python, but is there someone on this planet who actually likes this feature?
Trying to use it in Jupyter notebook (browser) is a nightmare, because tab will focus on next ui element.
Or am i missing something?13 -
Why the fuck is it so hard to write a simple bash script. Syntax so strange and so many symbols you need to know. If you need to do calculations with floating point numbers, the mess is perfect.11
-
so many rust libraries have code in the README but it isn't syntax highlighted lol
this is such a dire omen to me
like it's so basic
why did you miss it2 -
Rant.
Why so many people complain about this lack of a 3.5mm jack? It's 2016 and we still have that fossil of a tech from the early 20th century. A digital device with an analog input... I mean, come on! It's for the future.10 -
HOLY FUCKING SHIT
WHY IS THIS CLASS SO FUCKING FULL OF INCORRENT INFORMATIONS?????????
I've started university last year ( 2017) and I got a class named "Basics of Informational Communication Technologies" and it's so freaking bad...
The book is obviously just an english book translated to our language and signed by the proffesor. I've been trying to study it right now but it's so frustrating and I'm just 15 minutes into reading. HTML is not a programming language, viruses are not always under 4 kb, source codes are not always based on classes and so on....
Not to mention so many badly explained stuff that could be explained soooo much better and simpler...
How do I deal with this? -
Why so many people complain about Vim? Just drink Nuka Cola.
Anyway, my first scripts were done with edit, in MS-Dos...
Anyone who can't learn how to use a tool... Well there are so many IDEs...
Just use something else1 -
Figma dev mode sucks so hard I dont get why people seem to like it so much.
It was working fine before and now I have to throw away my complete workflow because of their bullshit beta.
They stripped many features which were working fine before for their fancy bullshit.
Instead of fixing existing issues they just add new bugs.
I cant even get the distance between two elements.
Fuck you Figma.2 -
You're allowed to flame me for being a clueless idiot btw.
Why do so many sites append things like titles and words from posts to urls (Devrant included)? I know for sure that this isn't necessary for it to find posts (there are ID's). If there were just those strings of text and the site had to figure it out I would probably kill someone. But really, why are they there? User convenience? So that people see what they're going to read about when you link them to something?
TL;DR Why do urls for rants/posts have lots of text at the end?7 -
So far in my career I've tried been hired to a startup, two medium sized consulting agencies and a Fortune 500 company.
Trying to figure out why the startup and the big company managed to attract so many assholes.
I've heard similar trends from friends in the industry.5 -

Why the FUCK do bank waiting lines have to be so fucking long? And why do these old cunts have to spend 30+ minutes in the booth each? If this goes on, I'll have to wait in line for THREE FUCKING HOURS just to raise my fucking daily transaction limit! And all I fucking wanted was to order the parts for my new goddamn rig! If you have too many cocking clients to handle, hire an extra worker or five!2 -
This fucking manual with their abstract ssl section is driving me nuts. Why do you need so many keys? Fucking jks!
Fuck your pseudonyms, and why in the name of the holy cunt do you have to cope them with aliases?
Jerry, barry, tango. You all get a fucking certificate!
Jerry is an asshole, barry is a cuntand I don't even know who tango is, but fuck tango in particular! -
why so little books about enterprise paradigm on developer (best practice/app lifecycle/scrum, etc) when so many resources about coding4

Why are there so many testing framworks for JavaScript? Jasmine, mocha, buster ... and for spies, stubs and mocks, there is sinon and for assertions, there is chai. And oh you can record entire external api calls with nock and whatever else I forgot. I am a bit overwhelmed by this overambundancy of libraries. Writing tests is supposed to be easy.2
-
Why Windows 11 is trying to be mac os (at least look wise)? The more I use it, the more I am getting irritate. All the ui from windows 10 is still there, so why add extra sugar candy just to look different than windows 10. Many things require more clicks and more typing now.9
-
What do you do and why?
1. Keep an idea for yourself, so no one is going to steal it.
2. Talk to as many people as possible to get as much feedback and opinions as possible.
I personally prefer 2.
How about you?5 -
Many of engineer blogs like to write about how he made the tool work, but rarely explain the back ground... like why it works, what's happening in the background, and why he chose that commands, methods, or options out of other stuff he could chose. I know it's impossible for a person to know everything, but I hope I wouldn't feel so much difficulty to find information which provides a little bit broader scope of knowledge about the tools.

Javascript/React question of the day: Habe you used Storybook.js? How was it?
Would you recommend using it in a medium sized side project? (I'm also considering simply using docz)3 -
Programmers logic:
Wife says to her husband to grab a loaf of bread, if they have eggs then grab half a dozen.
Husband goes out and comes back with half a dozen loaves of bread. The wife is fuming and asked why he'd bought so many. His reply "they had eggs?"1 -
Why is React.js so hard to learn for someone from a JAVA back end background? I'm constantly asking myself "so should I set param as string? or int? Array? so many methods that's returning html tags! what collects all and makes it appear at WHERE??"9
-
People are whining about frontend bloat, overengineering, too many packages on npm and whatnot.
And I'm just like: "Hey! You still can write your own leftpads y'know..."
I just don't get why having lots of options has to be so bad... -
Cab someone please tell me why windows has so many update but still taking so many time to even open a simple app????3

A tale as old as time:
Customer: "This is wrong in all these X places!?!?!?"
-screenshots, panic, etc.-
Many emails and clarifications later we find out it is wrong ... in just ONE place ... and it wasn't even one of their initial examples.
Customer: "Why does this take so long to fix???"

I've fallen asleep while trying to finish this series so many times that I must've changed the "Trending now" Netflix's listing for the whole country.
I wonder why do I always wake up right when the last episode ends, though... -
why won't you people let me move on ?
you people started draining me of my life a little at a time from the age 28 onwards. why ? I just want to see some goddamn new tv and movies and work and have a home, and an acceptable level of progress in life.
a chick once and awhile, some lappy dances, and a stiff drink twice a week.
why is being an actual standard american such a horrible prospect for so many miserable little evil bastards out there ?1 -

(I know this rant won't gather much attention, maybe there are just a bunch of people that know Redux and still less that used it in Angular).
I feel so bad, really, I just want to throw everything against the wall. I really hate ngrx, I hate redux and how it's de facto implemented in Angular. I talked with other developers and everyone around says that redux is hated only by people that don't understand it, and well, maybe it's stupid, but I hate it.
It's so different from Angular plain programming, why the hell I need to create a index.ts file? It looks so wrong.
Why the hell import * as reducer, why don't you just import the reducer?
Why do you need a switch statement? Really? We're in 2018, languages as python removed it, in the era of reactive programming why don't you just map a key to a function?
Why so many files? Why for a 20 rows module I've to write 5 files each of them twice longer?
Why so much boilerplate? The time spent at implementing everything will be ever gained back?
Why does everything looks so wrong?3 -
i've been banned from SO again because too many people hit downvote on my shit without telling me why, so i'll ask in short here:
How the fuck are u64* and u64 different, why can't I cast between them or between them and a double and why the fuck is C gay?
Now, again but longer:

Why so many weird frameworks and libraries? these days I study so many frameworks and install things and I am actually overwhelmed. Sometimes those things conflict each other and end up messing up my PC. Do frameworks and libraries make dev environment fancy? I am not sure, to me it seems that things are going messy. Please give me fresh perspective.2

I really do not understand why people do not use the defaults, I see a PHP code and I see all the PSR's violated, SOLID violated, and as it is something of years, unfortunately we did not get more rapporteur in a timely manner. I didn't go to college, but I must say, what the hell do you guys do in college?
Then many (the good obviously) programmers do not understand why they take so much the fun of PHP, if they see the codes that I see lately...2 -
There are many issues with designers. Let's skip hamburger fuckups, navigations on bottom or other stuff. What pisses me of most are tables. Simple tables. As many times as i remember i told them: plaease, design this table with full borders around cells. Your design will make problems with rowspans a cellspans. Why you keep doing that? This is not like tables list in your fucking IS, where you tracking your shitty designers tasks.
How to talk with them? Blow their dicks off before discussion so they feel happy?
But you know, i'm just coder... I have no main word on design things.10 -
Today checked my learning time tracker. I have spent already 80 hours for learning angularjs. And I still am not able to write unit test without errors. What the fuck. How many hours more do I need to finnaly be able to write unit tests without any problem?
Like today getting
An error was thrown in afterAll\nSyntaxError: Unexpected token 'export'
and I do not even use afterAll() funciton so they give error somewhere from the inside of libraries. Why they do that? why cannto they give easy to understand error?
Everytime I sit to write unit test for learning, all the time I feel I will not understand. And I am right everytime. Damn. That makes me need to force motivate myself. I want to see results, not sit at the same place so many time.18 -
When grafic designer design a list of products where on top of the page is header with title, category description, big fucking image, big fucking category navigation and on second screen list of the products.
Just why? Why put the important stuff (products) on second screen? Just why? You have three asses of space, you fucker. You can put category list on fucking SIDE. How many time you did this shit?
What about multilevel categories when menu just show current category children? I need to go fucking back or what? FUCK YOU! Stick this stupid boxes into your ass and design real navigation.
What is so fucking great to having big ass monitors and design more and more one column websites, just why you fucking retard?4 -
Why are there so many get bitcoin quick scemes out there. Are these things even legit? Because im starting to wonder, just curious now (thinking)1

Why why do people bother making so many lazy Stackoverflow spinoffs? Who would ever want to read that garbage low effort websites?6

Writing a x-platform cli tool in Go designed to be an infinite REPL until EOF if no arguments are passed. Code works great on Linux and Mac as-is but not on Windows. On Windows it only works at all if args are passed.
WHY.
And people wonder why I don't like Windows. It's a shame my userbase has so many tech-saavy Windows users. If not for them I'd cut that git branch off the repo in a heartbeat. -
Why do so many different programs have so many different dependencies...I mean can't everything coexist everywhere.
Spent 2 days on aws only to realize the solution is to switch to GCP. I mean what?1 -
So many people complain on how js is stupid (I did too not long ago), but at the same time you know there are good parts in it if there are books literally called "js: the good parts". So I've been thinking, why not make a subscript of it with all the recognised bad bits cut out? What do you guys think about that? Too bad I'm too underskilled to pull that off alone 😥1

My 'corporate startup' doesn't want to upgrade their old bloated platform to a more agile framework.
And then ask, why we miss so many deadlines :/1 -
Have any of you ever wondered why it is so difficult to stay focused on a project when there are so many things wrong and have so many ideas to fix it?5

why does microsoft products require so many accounts, google does it better IMO.

I have my algorithms exam a day after so I'm on Hackerearth trying to solve some questions and many questions there explicitly require you to consider arrays to be 1 indexed. I'm like dude wtf? why?2

XCode is so terrible. I have to force quit it several times a day in so many use cases. I wonder why Apple cares so little about us developers. I dream with the day they’ll make XCode a good IDE. Everytime I run maps on the simulator my CPU goes to 700% and every time I checkout a branch, the thing hangs there so I have to forcf quit it 😠😫

Oh, now I understand why my past self had some pain in the neck in front of his computer. Twas his future self (the latest version of me writing this post) strangling him for the terabyte of duplicates of so many shit spread around my external storages.
Over 1 Terabyte of duplicate data among the 2.5 Tb in use, in the 3.5 Tb of maximum storage I have.1 -

Why is Drupal counter intuitive and unwelcoming! Why make it hard for new comers!
If you are looking for a feature, you have to code it anyway. So much code under the hood but you always end up using contributed modules or create your own. fck fck fck. So many buggy modules.
fck fck fck1 -
I seriously don't get why so many frontend developers are defaulting to React to build even the simplest of pages

Sometimes people ask me why i don't like awwwards. Ok, lets give them another try. I just opened 40 SOTD and every single has some kind of loader from 2secs to 15secs. Than i opened this site: https://pianotriofest.com/. It has no loader! But still, i have no idea how to control it. 95% of them can't work without JS. So many flaws i can't even describe, so little quality. All of them reached 7 or 8 in usability. Awwwards judges are incompetent kids.3

Why do IT Indians tend to lie so much? So many indian freelancer transform into John from USA and work together with a team of highly skilled specialists that studied in the most Elite universities in the world6

I don't understand why corporate waste so much money on agile training they know that doesn't gonna improve performance of developer at all. Instead of it decreases his performance because of so many annoying meeting and reporting3

As a now obsolete practice in the age of widescreen monitors and resolutions many times greater, do you still enforce line lengths in your code?
If so, what length do you use and why?7 -
Hey guys, just wanted to know what does everyone really think about Blockchain, honestly.
I've seen Blockstack create so many modules duplicating almost every centralized functionality, but why aren't they as famous yet. Just because people aren't aware?7 -
Why are there so many template languages? Do people enjoy them? I certainly don't.
What is the problem with just using functions? E.g. using https://j2html.com/ or http://www.lihaoyi.com/scalatags/
You can do code reuse with functions, for-loops, classes, interfaces etc.
Why are they avoided in Spring, PlayFramework and similar? -
There are 49 security updates for Windows on my system this morning. Almost all for Office. Forty nine! That's just nuts. I just updated it yesterday. I hope I don't have to reboot 49 times.3

Why is Lua such a pain to install? Like seriously there are so many hoops to jump through, why can't it be like java or python? -_-3

Why there are so many bugs in angular? Why the fuck zoneJS freaks out when asyncValidator and *ngIf depend on the same observable. Fuck me4

I just discovered there's a "subscribe to user's rants" button hidden in the options of a rant or profile. Why is this not a big, accessible, visible button?
So many times I lost good rants from a few folks around here (only to discover them weeks later) and wished there was a follow functionality in the app. Turns out there is, it's just hidden. WHY?2 -
"The Senior Developer told me I was wrong but I proved that he was in fact wrong." - Why are there so many rants like this? What's the significance of the "Senior" part? Are you just telling the world you are better than "Senior" or do you just want to put them down?3

My company is contracted by a pretty big one. Having worked with them for about two years now with good insight into what's going on here I'm crying fucking blood over the 110% crazy decisions (and greatly expensive) caused by incompetent people with decision making positions. Feeling enlightened about why so many IT projects fail...2

When I visited a social network after a while, I could not believe my eyes …
Seriously: why are so many large and successful websites so user-unfriendly? Is it only me, or is it bad UX design? Am I just getting old?
A short elaboration on effects and reasons, with links and screenshots, in my new blog post:

So today, at workplace, while discussing something we came at a point that why now a days many folks around us are screaming at JAVA or boasting about modern languages? where as many good concepts originated from it as well as even in many orgs the heavy lifting of huge tasks like in spark is done using java.
A thought came into my mind that, are we kinda becoming lazier by using languages like python, ruby which help to do tasks with little code?2 -
For those wondering why so many people are leaving GitHub, it is due to the fact Microsoft is part of the PRISM surveillance program, where the NSA and other agencies can get their hands on your raw, unencrypted data without anyone knowing.
This is the reason 2 companies and 20ish devs gave me as to why they moved from GitHub to a self hosted Gitlab2 -
So I've been forced to work on a project for some time using JavaScript
Many parts of it must function synchronously and js has a lot of libs and otherwise that will spawn threads in threads
I'm horrified by the amateurish appearance of my code
Await this await that
Everything enclosed in something else and what is worse is the base node modules I'm using are ALL asynchronous! Were talking methods that one consistently has to wait on finishing like db reads !
Why is js so dumb ?26 -
Why do any tutorials on any kind of technology start their projects on ports like 3000/8080/4200/5000 and so on? Why not start them on port 1/2/3/65536/etc.? Are these chosen tutorial ports free to use? Any special meaning? I've looked up a table of ports and many ports have a specific purpose but are still (mis)used for that arbitrary whatever project?9

Tmw you look at something and instantly get a new project idea.
This is why I have so many unfinished projects. -
Why does every programming language have to have so many different ways of doing the same thing? I mean, come on, do we really need both for and foreach loops? And why do we have to choose between switch and if-else? Can't we all just get along and use the same damn structure? #FirstWorldProblems30
