So, my wife sends me this picture because our car had 111,111 miles on it. Of course she called me a nerd when I told her, "That is awesome because if you ignore the .3 on the trip odometer it is 63 and that in binary is 111111"8

If you're going to ask for my help

1980s - This thing can store entire programs !!
2017 - This thing can't even store my git ignore !
(Still remember when my dad used to bring games for me in these floppy disks from his office and my pc had a floppy reader XD)7 -
What non-dev team members don't understand is that when we tell them to wait while we're coding, we actually don't ignore them but try to finish the code before we forget what were we typing.1
-
Why the fuck did I set up GitHub and all the deploy scripts if your just going to fucking ignore it and edit directly on the server?!?
"Oh, I ran out of time"
DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW SIMPLE GIT IS?!?!?
"git add file
git commit -m 'Queef farm'"
AND YOU'RE DONE!12 -
Do devs really fight or do we just mildly assert differing opinions then ignore each other for extended periods of time?3
-
I HATE when websites ignore your browser language and use your IP address to set the language instead3

Friend: Hi! Can you create a car rental website for me?
Me: hmmm... yeah, we need to define some..
Friend: I will pay you in beer! 😉
Me: We need to define how you want to die.
Why some people try to ignore the fact that programming is a fucking job?7 -
I saw a commit with suspicious code days ago. After warning my immediate superior he ignored me and yesterday proceeded to deploy.
Now we have items in cache for days instead of minutes. I guess next time he will listen to me.4 -
When you write a guide and people completely ignore it, then bug you about problems they wouldn't have had if they read the damn guide in the first place.9

Arguing with a woman is like reading the Software License Agreement. In the end, you ignore everything and click "I agree".

10am: meeting invite for 9:30pm my time.
*decline with comment: can’t attend*
9:40pm: email, “is anyone from engineering going to attend?”
*ignored*
10:05pm: email, ok the results of the call were X, Y and Z. But we’ve been asked to supply architecture diagrams (which don’t exist). Can we do this today?

I was asked by our tester and scrum master to ignore some failing unit tests yesterday. The tester literally said "no time for tests, we need the build now". The scrum master is also a tester and agreed. I dont think I can respect either of them as testers anymore.3

My prepaid travelcard company sends me an email whenever I buy coffee for 50 cents. Decides to ignore when I make a €2500 withdrawal.6

I was laid off right before Christmas because my manager would not give me any work (bully.. possibly discrimination). I asked for work to do for 2 weeks, even coming up with things to contribute on my own. My contributions were rejected and the lead developer agreed with me that it was fucked up but did nothing. The little work that I was given was always completed above standard and the lead dev had made comments praising my self tasked contributions but each rejection I was told it would be shelved for version 1.2.
Finally fed up, feeling as though I was being completely ignored, I told the lead dev I was going home half day early if there was nothing for me to do. The next day the CTO fired me and even lied to my recruiter telling him that I had not shown up for work for 3 days (easily disproven).
It's now the first of the year, probably not the best time to be looking for a new job, and my current outlook is that I am not going to be able to pay my rent at the end of the month.
My motivation has diminished, my confidence is gone. Job prospects are few. I don't know how to proceed.9 -
Let me just delete this symbolic link and leave it copying the folder to the ssd real quick while I go to lunch...
Lessons learned:
1 - don't put a fucking / at the end of `rm -rf /path/to/link`
2 - don't ignore the warning of it being a folder after trying to `rm /path/to/link`
3 - backup your fucking dev database too
4 - don't do stuff hungry
SHIT!! FUCK!!3 -
Wow Mozilla published an infographic instead of an actual blog post and didn't include an alt-tag. Let's just ignore the fact that blind users exist and use screenreaders, articles about privacy don't apply to them right?9

When you are at a party and people ignore you when you talk about your job. And in my head I'm like:
"You assholes in 10 maybe 5 yrs y'all are gonna be replaced by computers except me. Enjoy your life while you still can."1 -
so heres to all the fucking programming teachers who use incorrectly terminology when explaining shit. now i gotta go tell my friend that he should ignore what the teacher said and ill tell her how to myself. also fuck javascript and code.org's terrible implementation of an environment for it.4

Bad news:
Everyone now wants their damn solution done "ASAP". Yet they fail to provide basic information. They never show up at any meeting. And ignore all my emails. FUCK!
Good news:
It's Taco Tuesday.1 -
Today I got lectured by one of our Seniors that my automated test isn't useful because it always fails. Reminded him that it only fails because of a bug that's assigned to his team for four months now. He answered that I should remove the test case. Sometimes I honestly question why they even have a QA if they ignore at least 80% of reported bugs...3
-
Boss: "is it done yet?"
Me: "I've been telling everyone we have a problem and I need all hands on deck. I've already analyzed the issue and explained it to you and the options but YOU PEOPLE NEED TO DECIDE or I decide and probably break things along the way..."
Why does everyone ignore me when I need help but are ok asking me when they need help?

#4 Worst thing I've seen a co-worker do?
Not a direct co-worker, during a fire drill, a call center manger told all the agents to ignore the alarm and keep working.1 -
LinkedIn for developers is the exact opposite of Tinder for developers:
Tons of young, attractive women send you messages you ignore.6 -
This freaking server migration has been going on since Thursday night (it's now Sunday afternoon, for reference).
I've been on the phone since 1830 last night, which means I'm away about 18 hours in. I'm finally eating dinner, breakfast, and lunch.
People who theoretically should know the environment better than I do argued with me in front of customers and then tried to say she was agreeing with me all along. She tried dropping off the call SHE WAS RUNNING 6 hours before she should have, because I was on and she thought it was becoming my responsibility. HAD SHE LISTENED, we could be done by now.4 -
Quick'n'dirty devrant filter for tampermonkey (frontpage, comments, mentions in comments, notifs), since there's no block/ignore function, bye to whoever lands on that 👋3

Am I the only one ?
15+ years in c# / .net dev and I still google "c# string compare ignore case" each time. Its just fucking faster than to remember exact syntax of the "StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase"9 -
Fucking hate when "senior" and "lead" devs ignore the advice of numerous junior devs when it comes to technical and process driven decisions. Especially when said higherups don't even code anymore and don't really understand the consequences of their decisions.10
-
No one fucking knows how to handle/raise errors.
I feel like this is the least talked topic in all fucking programming industry. This shit needs to be tought even more than the fucking SOLID, DRY, KISS, YAGNI and other kinds of buzzwords that fancy devs love tossing left and right.
Basically everyone just does "whatever you dumb error just dont bother me". They will just log/return null/ignore the errors and be in their oblivion with bugs propagating upstream the call stack.
"Throwing errors you say? Ew, why do you want to produce more errors?". Yeah, right, just stick another log/return null/or ignore the fact that the monke calling your function with bullshit arguments.
"But bro it's so difficult and time consuming and it would never happen!" Yes, you fucker! Yes! Programming IS fucking difficult if you want reliable systems! Did you not know that!? Well now you do! Go and fucking learn it!
FUCK!11!1!!27 -
I hate the dumbass people that send on slack: "good morning", "good afternoon" or "how are you?" and do not say anything until I reply. If you do this FUCK YOU!! Just ask the fucking question. Now I just ignore everybody until the question is made11

SQL injection holes everywhere... The original author of the product put concatenated SQL queries throughout the whole application. If it's not the client asked for a penetration test, we as developers wouldn't even be given chance to fix this shit.
I'm actually glad to have the chance. I can't live seeing them every day but force myself to ignore them.8 -
Well for any dev's wanting to see Venom but are seeing meh scores and bad reviews, ignore them because it was fucking brilliant...14
-
Coworker called me up and shouted at me for refactoring code. "It might break!".
But his copy paste addiction is sure to make everything more stable, right?
Course, he still hasn't figured out that I'm the tech lead, so I will completely ignore his useless whining, as I have his boss on board.6 -
I'm doing my CV in Vue with Bulma and everything is all nice and neat. I have a nice and neat 'skills' section that you can see pictured, and it's nice and neat. However, what is not very nice and neat is Firefox (and chrome's) print to PDF thing which ignore the nice little semi meaningless dots that I have, which is so fucking asdfghjkl;27

The worst part has to be you always compromise on your health just because your brain is telling you to solve a code block. You ignore your basic necessities, resulted in irregular patterns of sleep, skipping food and so much more.
Trying to maintain code which was written long back and alot of it has deprecated.
Yes you need to sit your ass down and write the whole thing again. -
I hate the idea of a programmer's day.
I like the logic (256th day) but hate the idea.
It feels full of bullshit. It feels fake.
I guess it had that wannabe impersonator vibe to it that makes me nauseated.
I have similar feelings towards other kinds of such days.7 -
I love it to maintain old unit tests which were not executed for about 5 years. 2/197 are green (╯ ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)╯┻━┻4

Me: there it is, app is complete and work correctly
Friend: What is this 5 warnings?

Me: (after 5 hours) compile..... 14 Error, 😡 fuck you I want my warnings back3 -
is it just me, or do some people just make life difficult for the fucking sake of making life difficult?
now, lets ignore the lack of sanitised data, lets also ignore the lack of prepared statements, and for the love of god... lets ignore some magic numbers, because I still don't know what they mean yet....
but why! why would you create an array, implode it, smash it into a database query on the fucking fly, instead of just adding the data into the query in the first place.... it's not like you were doing this right to begin with, but this... this is next level!28 -
Back to work after vacation.
And WTF do my collegues ignore the hardware failures and save that shit for me? -
Shit will hit the fan pretty soon. We're understaffed, the team is all talking about jumping ship and all other teams rely on our work, so if we jump ship, it sinks. It's really amazing that management is unaware or choosing to actively ignore the possibility. Either way, they're fucking up big time. Honestly, if it happens, it will be well deserved, it just sucks for everyone else working under them4

It's interesting how much fun Javascript is, when you just ignore it and use Typescript instead. 😎2

I sent an email to a client asking for values in the database only they can access so I can finish an application and test it.... they reply asking for a new feature on the application and completely ignore my request for said values. then another person CCed on the email replies and agrees with the feature request and we should do xyz. still no values from him either. wtfff?7

for the final fucking time
i'm the one who did the 8 hour garbage take home challenge and submitted it
i shouldn't be the one who has to reach out two weeks later to figure out what the status of my application is
oh and you ignore me on whatsapp
fuck you4 -
Today I was having conversation with my friend about time consumed in fixing errors. Our non coder friend was silently listening to us.
After we finished our lunch he stood up and said,
"You guys don't know how to handle time with efficiency. Why don't you ignore all the errors, finish your coding and fix all the errors in the end. It will save a lot of time"5 -
If you're doing a talk or presentation and pause for the audience to answer, which you ignore anyway, I hope you slide off the stage and break your neck

I'm switching companies. Gonna have to use Windows, grr. No Linux for development machines. :(
How do you guys keep yourself productive in Windows? I honestly can't in its bare state.
Best idea, for now, is just using a VM on top of Windows and ignore the Host OS.13 -
Every Website seem to has some glitches... and you can't ignore them like non-web-devs do... i wish i could look up the menu on a local restaurant-website without going crazy about the buggy slider or the misaligned address-div

love-hate relationship with Python semi-rant
The year is 2020.
I have already grown accustomed to the idea that in order to do ML without worrying too much about having to completely jump through hoops with the tech stack I have chosen that I would have to settle with Python, which I like.....for small scripts that don't do much other than piping data around or doing simple admin tasks, that is generally our use of Python at work.
For anything bigger I would prefer something else. Not because I find anything inherently horrible in Python, I find it to be a nice language overall, that has made it possible for many to find a passion inside of the world of development and possibly an interesting in overall engineering and computer science principles. Much respect Python, good game Guido VR, what you did changed the world.
But it is that damn whitespace that gets me, the need to use it as a way to properly write blocks, I just can't make myself like syntactical whitespace no matter what I do. I can do without static typing, shit I did it for the longest time with JS way tf before Node and Typescript were a thing, and I have done it before PHP's attempt at having type hints, which still leave much to be desired. Ruby(imho) the most elegant language around doesn't have it and that is fine really, it does not bother me as much, if mypy gets powerful and widely adopted enough it will then be a non-issue.
But another thing that the 4 languages i mentioned before have is non-existent syntactical whitespace......I just can't stand it.
So, why am I saying all of this nonsense? Today I wanted to recreate a conda environment and landed on the use of YAML............which has syntactic whitespace and I lost my shit.
I seldom bitch about languages and technologies, shit, I used VBScript before, not only did I get paid handsomely for it, but I fucking enjoyed it(probably cuz I am a masochist).
But two things I cannot abide: VBA and syntactic whitespace.
Once I get enough knowledge for it I will push for the same level of tooling in Python to be ported to Scala.
Thank you for coming to my whiny post about something as small as bitching about syntactic whitespace.8 -
Wanna know what being social media famous or being a celebrity feels like?
Be a programmer on LinkedIn.
They’d be hitting on you and you have no other choice but to ignore everyone.2 -
This is exactly why I didn't want to give the client my mobile number.
It's a Sunday morning, and he's messaged me asking for me to do something today.
Hopefully by boss is sympathetic with the week I've had and lets me ignore it.1 -
So Zuckerberg wants to integrate Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook together.
Maybe this is his desperate attempt to make people to not ignore his own creation - facebook.
I just hope this integration is optional and won't be forced.16 -
‘Hey let’s use bootstrap’
‘Hey let’s make it pixel perfect to this design’
‘Hey, lets completely ignore bootstrap when designing’
‘Hey lets pile it all on dev while he fights this framework for 8 hours a day instead of working to bootstraps limitations’
I wish people would just accept that if you use bootstrap, you have to let a pixel here or there go for the sake of responsiveness.8 -
Python prorammers ignore this.
Oh so now we got a fucking new fight started on devRant on which line to put brackets on.
Fucking why!!??
Both conventions basically mean same thing and even no fucking ide is partial about the fact.
Stop it!8 -
Shoutout to the homies who work with people younger than them at the same level and just ignore what we say based on this fact. You fucking muppets.5
-
One thing I wanted to say here before:
The more the community of DevRant grows, the more "repeated" posts it will have. It's totally usual on social networks when they start to grow.
So, instead of saying bad things to people who post the same stuff, just ignore it and keep the community growing. :)2 -
Fuck IE, Edge, everyone who worked on them and their ancestors.
Specially fuck their obtuse need to utterly ignore common standard expected fucking behaviour for CSS3 -
Ignore the official start/finish times. Instead, sync your office ours to that of someone in your team you respect.4

I love how clients can ignore missing menu in their existing project, pages not updating because of fucked up cache, having three different versions of jquery and half of the code being spaghetti on fire - but they get anally retentive about margins not looking like on the wireframes on the new project.7

Today I got more praise for adding a spinning animation while loading page than the 5 months of complex coding I've done so far.
Users are simple, look shiny, ignore that nothing works.1 -

Ugh all but one unit test is passing :-(. I know the code is working- so the problem must be in the test... [add @ignore to test]. Yay they all pass now!1

My partner says I'm too much of dry logic and lacking in emotions. The way I want to find logic in everything and ignore illogical spontaneous emotions... Isn't helping me in here.
Just wanted to vent out and ask whether this is the curse of the nature of work... with tech I am in (I fantasise it to be that) or is it just My individual problem?15 -
So yeah, it's cool, I only built a process based on years of experience. Just go ahead and completely ignore it. A failure to plan on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine.
-
WYSIWANK
Why do they not know this? Spending the time to create beautifully crafted css for bullet lists, only for the client to ignore the bullet list icon in the cms and put some shitty keyboard bullet causing the display page to luck just plain shit. Fucking useless wankers (why do i bother). That's why wysiwyg blocks in cms are a cunt in the hands of fuckwits. -
I know it's not recommended to write git commit messages in past tense, but it makes more sense to me to use it. Maybe I'll change as I grow and learn more in the programmer world, but as for now, I'm going to be a rebel and ignore convention😎5

"Listen to your client, take into consideration all of their input, weigh the options, study the details, know the target audience, and then, if necessary, ignore all of it and design what you think will work best." - Von R. Glitschka3

So can someone explain to me what's all the drama around our recent burned out sourceforge-dude? Y'all know you can just, ignore his/her rants/comments right? Unless I'm missing something here, I don't see the big deal. Not the first quirkling we've seen here, not the last. And It's not like he's spamming posts either, seems like a post a day, perfectly ignorable if you don't want to read their walls of text.
Like yeah, the levels of aggression are a "bit" too much but still. Ignorable.35 -
Why tf yall trashing w3schools and praising mdn? When I forget the syntax I just ignore the mdn and go straight to w3schools, the information there is more condensed, more like a cheatsheet. Also their online editor is far quicker than any codepen hipster garbage you endorse
If I need spec I visit the fucking spec, not mdn21 -
You see that got checkbox ‘initialize git’? Just ignore it for now, you’ll maybe want to learn about it later...4

IMAO, a new programming language/technology is like a new cute girl at your school/workplace. We give it a lot of attention and tend to ignore older programming languages/technologies2

The place I'm interviewing for apparently has a "no music" policy. Is this common? Music is a huge part of programming for me. It helps me get into a rhythm and ignore all the little distractions like people tapping their feet, etc. that drive me absolutely crazy. Am I expecting too much here???16

I was doing a demo and went to quickly launch PGAdmin from Start. I hit the Start key and typed "pgad" because that usually works as an application launcher for "PGAdmin". Cortana decided to ignore the program in the start menu and instead showed the audience info about about PGAD.
A whole room full of people now know about
PERSISTENT GENITAL AROUSAL DISORDER

How do I exclude most non-programming related posts from my feed?
I don't want to see Facebook-like topics about weather and housing in my Devrant client.
I know I can use the toggle switch to exclude tags - and I have excluded some (like Jokes/Memes) - but the non programming rants keep coming.
Any tips on more tags to ignore?9 -
remote work is so much better for me.. i think something is wrong with me because little things my co-workers do like clearing their throats, them slamming their keyboards and sometimes the way they laugh or even the way they speak... pisses me off so bad. OMG!!! even putting on headphones does not help. I wish i could ignore all that.

Internet Explorer decided to overflow something outside of a flexbox.
overflow:hidden suddenly makes Internet Explorer actually wrap the text, as it does in literally any other fucking browser.
> word-wrap?
< nah I'll ignore that.

Ugh, I really hope that people stop using this crappy browser in the next five years.5 -

Fuck you 10X developer. You create 5 PR's per day and I have to read through all of them. Then you proceed to ignore all of my comments and suggestions for improvement. And of course I'm the sorry private who has to find and defuse all of your sneaky mines.2

I swear to fucking god the itch.io desktop app is one of the worst design and programming piles of shit out there...
Deisgn is inconsistent and ugly, stability is up shit creek and simple performance is just shit even for an electron app.
If anyone has to do anything with downloading stuff from itch, just do it manually and ignore the app all together -
Does devRant really need a downvote button? I mean if a post is offensive just report it. I don't really see someone saying a post is bad. If a post is bad I just ignore it.9

Not at all irritating 😊3 -
I wish more workplaces realised how stupid it is to quibble, argue, debate etc. about stupid things like buying Devs intellij licenses. I mean sure, we'll throw a meeting to discuss it, argue back and forth, ignore questions about why the sales guys always get any new tools they want, and then waste more on meeting time than the damn license would have cost... Great idea...1

So f--ing what? Ignore the doublon and MOVE ON WITH THE COMPILE, JAVA! -
Small rant for today: why in God's name do some people feel the need to ignore the conventions of the frameworks THEY chose to use for theyr projects, and start just throwing stuff randomly around the whole codebase?
ARRRGGHHHH...
Phew...all better now :)1 -
When your boss asks you to work from home, because you can concentrate more on the big project you're working on and ignore support requests and other clients... then he just Skypes and emails you anyway cause everything needs doing today 😢😭2

I DON'T WANT YOUR FUCKING BULLSHIT LOGGING WHEN I'M FUCKING HANDLING IT MYSELF FOR MY ALREADY EXISTING SOFTWARE!! HOW DUMB CAN YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKER BE TO TELL ME TO JUST "IGNORE" THE MESSAGES IN THE CONSOLE WHEN I'M BUILDING A FUCKING CLI BASED SOFTWARE??!!1 -

Not so much a problem with the way CS is taught, but I think it's a problem that a lot of people put emphasis ONLY on programming (and maybe data structures and algorithms) and ignore things like Computer Architecture or Theory of Computation.
Most of the CS syllabi I've seen are built very well, but many students (and some teachers) seem to ignore a bunch of subjects because they don't contribute to making them "hireable". -
a deprecation *warning*. we IGNORE warnings. if they actually want us to do something about it they need to call it a deprecation error. and also probably prevent compilation. virtual smoking coming from the emulator wouldn't hurt either. if they expect action on these things, they're going to need to do better than warning.2

I have a code and it is giving different answers in different language and compilers
the code is
Int a=4
Int b = ++a + a++ + --a
Please ignore the syntactical errors
But this logic give different answers in different compiler and language like in
C(turbo c++ compiler) it gives 12
C(gcc)- 16
Java- 15
Python- 12
Can anybody explain the logic behind this...10 -
First rant!
Ah, npm... Lots of packages use ES6 syntax because it's nice to write, and then transpile to node-compatible code either with CI or a precommit script. Just spent a whole day trying to figure out what was wrong with my project, when it turns out I just had to tell webpack to ignore node_modules *except* for this specific package. Sigh.2 -

Unfortunately, due to my recent decision to only connect with people I know, it means I get a lot of those “Do you know this person?” pop-ups when I hit ignore. And because I’m a lyric person, it also means every time I deal with someone I don’t know, my brain goes:
“I don’t know him!”
“Peter, don’t you know what you have saaaaaaid? You’ve gone and cuuuut him dead.” -
when you start using vim more and more and learn about, sure it will take to start enjoying it because there is a learning curve that we can't ignore, than you will be upset that you didn't learn it before, and use it for daily use, the same can be said about linux4

I really hate when you get rejected in an interview and get no feedbacks and even worse when you reply HR with a question and they not answer you at all and ignore you.

Today I've realized that the previous dev for the time working on this project has decided to create brand new table in Db called 'Customers' and put all new user registrations there. So far sounds ok, if we ignore the fact that there already exists 'users' table with a few thousand accounts and not telling anyone for this 'minor' change.1

Yay, nothing better than good ol' change request... Right?
Let's see...
Limit user's ability to do sth, if this condition is met, allow editing global parameter of this condtion, than add per action overrides, on top of that add per-user override, on top of that add per-user overrides to ignore certain overrides.
Shiit man, reading this took me 3-4 times and still Im not sure if I 100% understand
Okay, I think I got this.
setting
per-user ignore flag to setting
override to setting
per-user ignore flag to override to setting
override to override to setting
per-user ignore flag to override to override to setting
design assumption: automatic system that can make life easier
me: designed system to be fully automatic
every single change request: be less automatic, require more user manual and more attention to work2 -
SonarQube is obnoxious in it's moronic ideas that demonstrate lack of understanding of the languages it's analyzing.
In C# there exists a special kind of switch-case statement where the switch is on an object instance and the cases are types the instance could polymorphically be, along with a name to refer to that cast instance throughout the case. Pattern matching, basically.
SonarQube will bitch about short switch-case statements done in this way, saying if-else statements should be used instead. Which would absolutely be right if this was the basic switch-case statement.
This is a language with excellent OOP features. Why are your tests not aware of this?
I can't realistically ignore the pattern because that would also ignore actually cases where it's right. And ignoring the issue doesn't sit right with me. How does it look when a project ignores tons of issues instead of fixing them? -
Lay out exactly how you want a jr dev to fix his code, only to have him ignore all of it except that a certain library will be used in the fix.

App of a little social network I'm member of didn't connect to the server anymore, since the social network changed their SSL-certification and my smartphone is too dumb to accept the new one.
So, I pulled the source code of the app from GitHub and added some code dealing with SSL-connection-exception-handling.
A warning appears, that there were some errors with the SSL-cert with the question how to proceed and three options:
Quit, Ignore for now, Ignore and don't ask me again.
The code to ignore ssl-errors is just for debug-/develop-purposes, but hey, app with that little "hack" is running only on my phone x)
Now, the app is working again at my smartphone \o/2 -

Like once i ignore someone, i dont see any of his messages ever in any topic
It's mostly a user side filter thing
This way everyone can speak without the drama that come with conflictual subjects
The offender can still speak his mind and everyone expect those who ignored him can see his messages
The user who ignored someone can still live in a fairytale feed where he see things that wont trigger him
Win win 🤔3 -
