Every single time I visit my family during holidays they expect one to fix their computer/smartphone/printer/whateverFuckingShittyIOT-Device... Just printed them postcards this time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also: Hello devRant! Just been reading here for a week and every single day was full of gold - Thanks :)12 -
4+ years of programming.
Still have no clue how to make my own regex pattern.
Every single time I need to, I always open 4 cheat sheets and/or stackoverflow.24 -

Looks like Apple is the new Microsoft and Microsoft is the new Apple...
I remember when every release of Windows was a catastrophic mess and you had to wait until at least SP2 to get the OS to work in a stable way. And Internet Exploder was *the* browser that broke everything, every time. And there was the whole embrace/extend thing, where they tried to impose their vision of web standards and compatibility, and *everything* you used *had* to come from Microsoft...
And now, it's Apple who fuck up every single OS release, on mobile and desktop, and whose browsers openly shit on web standards (ever try developing anything for Mobile Safari?). Apple's stuff that only works with Apple stuff (down to things like headphone jacks - OOPS, forgot, they dropped those now).
Microsoft is making interesting, beautiful hardware (Surface machines) while Apple is pushing un-innovative, overpriced garbage year in year out. And they're open-sourcing more and more, while Apple walls itself further and further behind its walled "garden". Bleh.
Be interesting to see in 10 years what will have shifted, because it'll change again by then.15 -
So my friend started a YouTube channel, being the motivational man I am I encouraged him and made him a logo for his channel.
It started here, he called me a bazillion times every single day asking me to make stuff like Channel banners, intros.
He even went so far to call my design bad and that I could do better.
I'm definitely losing my hold on my generosity, it's like this with every single fucktard I help. It's like programmers don't get to have a life, people pitch me stupid ideas at every party.. Having a casual conversation a guy starts talking about an idea.
Oooh... And the worst part they say you can have 60% and just give them 40% 'MINORITY' share for coming up with an idea I could pull up from my arse instantaneously
Next time he asks me something I'm gonna fuck him up or just charge him a bazillion dollars... FUCK FUCK FUCK... REALLY GOT TO BUY THAT STUPID STRESS CUBE15 -
The time my sister dropped the external HDD with every single picture of our family between 2000-2009.
I was 16 at the time, and it made me paranoid like I am today.

This annoying fuck is the single most hated guy on youtube PERIOD.
Every time I try to watch a tutorial or some gameplay demo this fucking cunt comes up with his piece of shit game dev course.28 -
My boss is technically my coworker.
I screamed my lungs out after it became clear that he didn't give a shit about employees that bring him money. After snatching all funds from a finished project on time, failing to deliver on the promise about bonuses (it's what I used to motivate employees to deliver the project on time), refusing to buy a new chair to replace the one held together by scotch tape and careful balancing, I decided to quit with maximum damage.
I screamed so that everybody would hear it. That encouraged another guy to get in with quitting, and within 1 month most of the team had quit, leaving the boss with a risk of lawsuits for prepaid contacts not delivered.
Knowing that piece of shit, he probably recovered and is treating other people badly, but at least every single person from the team experienced the biggest jump in careers straight after that.1 -
You absolute piece of shit.
Fuck you.
I hope your sleeves slide down every single time you wash your hands.20 -

Dear Apple,
WHY DA FUCK DO I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD 4+ GB EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAVE TO UPDATE X-FUCKING-CODE? A goddamn patch would be more than sufficient.7 -
A repo on GitHub I'm maintaining has grown with 200k downloads / month since I started working on it a year ago. My recipe? I added an npm badge in the readme showing downloads / month and I responded to every issue and reviewed every PR. Now there's so much issues and PRs coming in that we had to add an extra maintainer, feels great! Teamwork, fuck yeah!
Not every PR got merged of course, but every single one of them got reviewed. Just being a good and friendly developer, giving back to the community that has given me so much. Some tips for you maintainers out there. If you have a popular project and no time there's always someone else who's willing to spend time on it, ask around and you will surely find someone else.6 -
Less rant, more story.
Tl;Dr: Disney uses "Magic Bands" to track every action of every person within their parks.
So I took my family to Disney World this past summer and we got these "nifty" little things called Magic Bands. These things are little wrist devices that basically handle everything for you in the parks. It unlocks your resort room, it gets you into the parks, you pay for meals and souvenirs with it by connecting a credit card and/or your meal plan. It makes things real simple as it's like putting on your watch each day.
At first I kinda enjoyed how easy it made everything on the trip, but then as we were exiting a ride the couple in front of us noticed the digital signs had their names on them, I looked around and noticed mine too, a sign that said "have a good day $myName." It suddenly clicked. These "Magic Bands" are people trackers. Suddenly everything about the park that I had been enjoying, was part of the system they had in place using these bands as human cattle tags. The ride wait time estimations were perfect, not because of a good algorithm and estimations, but because they had actual real data telling them when a person entered the line and got off the ride.
Using a BLE scanner app I was able to see that they have hundreds of APs throughout the parks tracking every single band on every single person withing their compound. I started to think about all of the data they're collecting and the thought of it was overwhelming. The amount of assumptions they can make about people based on their actions within their parks and what that data would be worth to additional advertisers. By the end of the trip I was cynically pointing out everything to my family about the cattle tags and how much I hated wearing it and yet it was required in order to do anything.22 -
Ah, every time I am on VPN, on every single website I have to prove that I am not a robot.
Just because I am using a VPN service to protect my information, that does not mean I am about to fuck the website up or DDoS the shit out of you. I wish the CDN providers would understand that and make our life easier.
I am seriously tired of completing the Google verification. Select the vehicle, bike, sign post, dick, vagina, Mia Khalifa. FUCK OFF11 -
Every single time I try to find a solution to a problem I'm having....
Who were you? What did you see?4 -
I haven't checked my work email in a month or two.
We use slack, so every time someone needs me they just message me there or text me. It works nicely. I also dislike email in general.
Anyway: I looked at my inbox this morning, and again just now. I've gotten just over 900 emails today.
Why?
Tons of useless alerts on a shoddy as hell codebase. As an example: Every time a coworker uses a tool or lookup with a sub-par query, it ties up the single shared database long enough to generate response time alerts.
As a better example, there are many many many informational alerts that intentionally begin with "500 Internal" specifically to trigger an email alert. Why? I guess they were useful at some point?
There's just so much to fix...
And I guess I don't care enough.
On the bright side: this gives me a great reason to ignore my email!6 -
Now that I have time to approach my ultimate dream ( being the pro penrester ) , asked a hacker for a road map and he gave me (U'll rarely see such open hackers that share knowledge :) )
Surprisingly I've been familiar with all the topics but being the most pro , requires u to be pro in every single topic .
Guess what ? I'm starting from basic linux commands all over again 😂

Worst of many. Had to work with someone who could be accurately described as a monkey in trousers with strategically cut fur.
Him: "I have refactored code now I have to refactor all your goddamn unit tests"
Me: "so?"
<silence>
<checks his commit>
Me: "why have you commented out every single line in all the unit tests?"
Him: "I DON'T BELIEVE WE SHOULD HAVE ANY UNIT TEST. THEY ADD TIME".
Me:"You cannot be serious. Apart from the obvious mistake in judgement why in the name of blue buggery fuck did you not delete the files? Have you not heard of source history?"
Him:"...."
I became his lead.
He left.5 -

My dad has been using a Windows computer every day since 95. Yesterday he discovered that if you click the little tabs in the "details" view of the file explorer, you can sort the contents of a folder by name, date, etc.
I also tried to show him how to scroll with the mouse wheel, but he said it was too complicated, and he preferred to drag the scroll bar every single time.4 -

Boss: Ok, ping me as you get free.

WTF - I discovered that wasps listen to me!
Earlier when one came in, I tried to catch it with a glass and release it, or kill it if that wasn't feasible. This year, I tried pointing to the window and ordering "get out!" just because I was too lazy to take action. Of course, I didn't expect it to work, but it did. I thought it was only a coincidence, so I kept trying it. It works every single time!
Crazy shit!13 -

Also business: Wow, great idea!
Management: Here's your bonus for a great idea!

Dev from MIT argued about every. Single. Thing. I said. I'm not talking language or cultural or political barrier, I'm talking about just a naturally confrontational person. Maybe it was just his nerves (people do weird shit when they are nervous), but damn if i didnt want to throw him out after "agreeing to disagree" for the 4th time in 10 minutes.7

Why the FUCK do people keep turning up the brightness on the monitors? Every single time I'm in programming class, some complete fucking idiot set the brightness blindingly high! I want to keep my eyes for a while, anything other than 0 just makes my eyes hurt on this monitor!12

I don't want to judge people by their age, and I won't.
But please
If you decided to become web developer at the age of sixty+, stop starting every single conversation with the 3min monologue about how different things were in your days when you were doing everything on paper and how great it was.
I'm here to fucking teach you how to code. Not to invent a time machine and send you back.
And for God's sake, stop touching my laptop.9 -
Dear fucktards with cookie notifications.
Give me a damn button of just “NO, I don’t agree”
Ain’t nobody got time to unstick 500 check boxes every single visit, surely theres no good or useful reason of some of these sites having more cookies then words on their home pages.14 -
I hate the mentality that our only hobby as programmers should be coding. Sorry but I enjoy crochet, reading, video games, and fashion. I'm not dedicating my entire life to coding. If that means it's more difficult to get a job so be it. I'll dedicate some time to coding but not all my time. I hate the kids i went to college with who would judge you if you github account didn't have green squares every single day. Sorry I just can't focus on coding that much. I need a fucking break sometimes. I can't just be a coding robot. Maybe im not meant to be a programmer. Maybe that's why I still don't have a job when I graduated 11/20 and it's 02/02 but fuck. I can't just be a program robot. (Sorry I'm a little drunk and sad)25

Now seriously, WHAT THE FUCK???
Every single time I have to work with people from a particular country [you have one guess. Yepp, that's the one], I see A-FUCKING-LOOOOOOT of manual work?!?
"can you reboot the server?"
-"sure, let me help you, sir" <20 minutes later> "done"
"can you unlock my account?"
-"yes, just a moment sir" <20 minutes later> "please check now"
"can you restart this environment w/ 200 instances?"
-"yes sir, let me check" <6 hours later> "please check now"
"you've missed 18 containers"
-"oh okay sir, will restart them now" <2hours later> "please check now"
[I am already OoO]
why is it that every time I have to work with you guys I am the one who is automating shit. How come you never think of/do any automata? You are fucking technitians, you should know how. WHY DO YOU ENJOY CLICKING ALL-DAY-LONG????
I'm serious. Why??? I'm struggling to understand...22 -

As a senior developer, I introduced a bug in the hiring system at the company I worked at and it took HR nearly 2 years to fix it.
Bug: Every candidate I interview on Wednesday between 12:30 PM and 4:15 PM gets selected irrespective of performance.
Impact: 270 candidates got a job
1st Fix [1.5 years in]: Add multiple developers to conduct a single interview (still did not fix it completely after all I was a senior developer)
2nd Fix [2 years in]: Removed me from the hiring committee
3rd Fix [though was not needed but for HR's extra safety]: Started recording all interviews
It was a good time.3 -
Does anyone else feel Facebook is hell bent on attacking open source in order to gain a monopoly on it?
They are slowing replacing every industry standard tool with over engineered bullshit and it just gets lapped up like it's the best thing ever...EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME

I happen to be the only girl in my small dev team of 4 males plus me.
I'm freaking tired of hearing 'hey guys','how are you doing guys', 'what's the update guys' in every meeting/call when one of them is addressing the rest of us.
Yeah i know I/they can't do anything about it. I somehow grew numb to hearing it, but sometimes hearing it one thousand time in a single call is driving me crazy.
I once mentioned it to an a senior dev who happens to be the one using the g word the most during meeting.
Me: could you please stop saying guys all the time, I'm not a guy.
Him: what do you want me to say, 'hey guys and a girl?!'
Me: ... -_- (internally: seriously!!)
Uugh.23 -
I have this teacher who focuses so much on documentation that I hardly get to code sometimes. The worst experience with that teacher was with a project I think about two years ago. Every time I came up with (modified) documentation (we have to document EVERYTHING before allowed to start programming) she would turn me away with some bs argumentation and also point out non existing English grammar errors (my English is way better than hers). After nine weeks of documenting (so, no single line of code yet and projects take ten weeks) she gave me the green light. Then at 'delivery' she had the fucking balls to to tell me that MY CODE WASN'T THAT STABLE AND GOOD YET.
I WAS LITERALLY HAVING A LIVE RAGE ATTACK OVER THERE.4 -
Every single fucking time I run into problems, the problems are very specific edge cases of common problems.
The search results however, are created by an army of retards, they're a sea of answers to the common problem. They drown out my super specific edge case.
And then someone dares to half-read my stackoverflow question, and immediately mark it as duplicate.
Ugh.6 -

Fucking fuckers on Stack Overflow...
I kind a use SO every fucking day, helping people with horrible formatted (don't even start about content) questions, and then when I got a single fucking question once all three years, no fucking cunt out there is willing to help.
Some dumbass even downvoted my (in my eyes) total reasonable, perfectly formatted, good written question.
I fucking hate it, that I spend so much time on that fucking platform, whilst nobody is giving me some help.
Fucking fucker cunts....!!!!
I've fucking got about 2,5k rep, I fucking know, in what fucking dimensions I can ask a fucking question.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!4 -
If I had a dime for every single time a developer has been asked to fix a printer I’d have enough to afford the 3D version.4

I fucking love HP.
Why, you may ask, given that I've ranted about their crap so many times now? Great question!
I love HP because every time I go to town on their hardware because yet again it got me infuriated somehow, I don't feel bad about it afterwards. Instead I feel oddly satisfied, liberated from another piece of crap from them. And besides, usually it's their or Acer's shitty hardware that gets me worked up anyway.
That said, fuck you HP. Filthy Microsucking pieces of shit.
.. anyway. I've just went around disassembling an old vacuum cleaner this morning, to liberate its 800W single phase AC motor. I'll probably have to underrun it with a step-down transformer but at e.g. 200VAC it should probably work no problem 🙂12 -
FML, I hate projects where managers (and other developers, too!) irrationally think that the only thing to do in the codebase is delivering new features and fulfilling change requests.
After 5 years of such approach, the code is bloated, and has hack-on-hack done against the original architecture, and management complains on the time to delivery a change, however asking them to get some time to "refactor" meets a deny every single fucking time because "we don't have budget".
Decided to leave the team. Any reason to stay there longer?7 -
Hey guys!
Been away for some time. Didn't have anything to tell tbh - until today.
As you may remember I started a new apprenticeship at big (and super cool) company. We develop software for various platforms.
I'm currently working on a plugin displaying some weatherdata. This plugin is supposed to be in 2 of our products. One is pretty nice but a pain in the ass to compile. The second one is a pure WTF. It's a web app with approximately half the functionality but 5x loading time (without demo data!) of the other product.
Well, today I learned why we have this loading time. They use I don't know how much different js frameworks and libraries for every single simple task. "It's easy and Facebook does it too. Besides that why are there frameworks if you could do it native?" HMMM LET ME GUESS BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE ARE FUCKING LAZY!?
Why do you need MULTIPLE frameworks for a simple web display!?3 -
My first ever post! So awesome to find out dev rant and cheer up my day as I go thru everyone's story/rant.
I was single the whole time while I'm at school. After graduated, I finally pick up the pace to date girls. So I signed up for a few online dating sites/apps. Every single time that I create a new profile for the app/site, I always get frustrated and confused about the language field. Especially when there's only selector or check box for languages selections.
Like, where's JavaScript, PHP, HTML5, Css3, Ruby, on the selector or check box. I think a suggestions to those dating site/app dev needs to rethink the options for language selections. At least try to let us developers have a better profile than normal people! :-/13 -
I love to work in pubs/bars, this special kind of noisy environment works so well for me. I even go "into the zone".
Lets talk about this. Is anyone else the same? Just curious.
These are my 6 reasons:
0) Beer. 🍺
1) None of the activity in a bar actually interests to me, if you know what I mean. In my house, every single noise/movement will get my attention.
2) After some time all the noise blends into a kind of "homogeneous hearing blurb". Like a mantra. Maybe there are even white/pink/brown noise benefits (guess).
3) I go to places where I enjoy the music and atmosphere.
4) I like bars and pubs anyways. I feel good in these places.
5) Beer. 🍺7 -
Every time..
Every single time!
All day long the hairy one is nowhere to be found. But as soon as you put some tech and/or wires on the bed - be sure she'll find it to be the best sleeping spot in less than a minute.
Literally a techno-cat.8 -
I become Windows insider as soon it was announced. I have been using Skip head branch for my main pc for the last 5 years.
It meant installing at least three windows version every month for the last 5 years. It was a good journey(Still going on).
The one thing surprised me that in those last 5 years that windows never started installing the update when I was working. Not a single time my work or progress was lost due to windows update.4 -
Most tedious part of my day...
While meetings are boring and awful and all, it's probably spinup times for me. Each and every change requires a minimum of 35 seconds of spinup to test. If i'm testing something with mailers or other daemons, that increases to easily 90+ seconds (plus the worker thread pickup times).
It's not enough time to do anything useful, and more than enough time to lose my focus. It turns every task into boring, tedious struggle. It's awful.
Apart from my coworkers, this is the single worst part about my job. (Okay, the awful code quality totally pushes this to third place.)4 -
I'm taking an entrepreneurship course and there is this one guy who talks empty words just to impress others.
He uses linux and at every single course he opens the terminal just to run the commands "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt remove", the rest of the time he is on discord.
He always switches to the terminal so you can see what an 'expert' he is17 -
Why the hell does every single frontend job on Earth require expert knowledge of React, a fad JS library that will be forgotten in 5 years?
For extra credit: when was the sage advice of "keep content, appearance, and behavior separate" overruled in favor of "use JavaScript for literally everything"? Have I been in a coma for the past 3 years?
Look, I understand the appeal of separating code into repeatable components. I just don't understand why essentially the same thing can't be accomplished with vanilla JS, which is ten times easier to understand and doesn't require an entire website to be written in some make-believe offshoot of Ecmascript that will look like hieroglyphics a decade from now.
There are also seemingly no positions that offer people a platform to start applying React to real world scenarios. I've seen the "understand React in 5 minutes" articles. Wow, super cool, you used 30 lines of JavaScript to render a "Hello world" div. The possibilities are truly endless.
But seriously, how does this shit work? Where do I go to learn the mystical art of offloading every single one of a website's responsibilities to JavaScript? How do I use React to build an actual functioning website, and at what point will it save me time or increase my productivity instead of just pissing me off?17 -
Let's talk about input forms.
Please don't do that!
Setting time with the arrow buttons in the UI.
Each time change causes the page to re-fetch all the records. This is fetching, parsing, rendering tens of thousands of entries on every single click. And I want to set a very specific time, so there's gonna be a lot of gigs of traffic wasted for /dev/null.
Do I hear you say "just type the date manually you dumbass!"? I would indeed be a dumbass if I didn't try that. You know what? Typing the date in manually does nothing. Apparently, the handler is not triggered if I type it in manually/remove the focus/hit enter/try to jump on 1 leg/draw a blue triangle in my notebook/pray3 -
so i had the "miscommunication" meeting with PM today. he criticized me for "not following his orders", allegedly having worked on stuff during this sprint that did not help fulfill his sprint goal, and that i should have aligned my work with him. i didn't even realize this exact goal existed specifically for my user story (even though it was at least mentioned with one single word in story description, must have read over it). however, during the whole fucking sprint, he never mentioned a single time i should align with him. every daily i'm explaining what i'm going to do, every day he sees subtasks that i created for this story, and he never disagreed or mentioned this topic, so i assumed i'm on track. and now suddenly, when sprint is over, he blames me for the misalignment?
he also criticized me for having said something rude to him during a team meeting, but he couldn't rephrase or specify what i had said, he couldn't give any details at all, and also i couldn't understand or remember what he meant. what shall i respond to that?🤷♀️
also, aligning my work with that of a colleague and brainstorming with him about how our API could look like for our stakeholders was "not on track / following his orders" for him, even though i had announced it in the daily and he hadn't disagreed.
either this guy has alzheimer's or he has a down on me, dunno what to make out of all that.
and then he mentions i appear "somewhat aggressive" to him.
hmm weird, why should someone become aggressive when they have to deal with this bullshit all the time 🤦♀️12 -
Why is it that every single employer in this field expects you to live and breathe tech and have it as your only source of enjoyment? Can't it just be a job that I show up and do every day and then spend my free time with whatever the hell I want? This morning's job interview:
Hiring manager: so what do you like doing in your free time?
Me: talks about actual hobbies, trying to be personable, making a few jokes, etc
HM: soooo.. nothing tech related then?
I can't imagine any other job expecting this amount of devotion. "So you want to be an accountant but you don't do it after hours for fun!?" Why is this normal?
**Sorry for ranting, job search is getting increasingly frustrating.6 -
Fuck Xcode!
Why does every single and small update need to be at least 5GB? And why am I required to update you so fucking often? You are not fixing anything, so don’t even pretend to! Most of the time it is just to support the latest .x update in iOS. Can’t be too hard to update the SDK without updating the entire shit IDE! 😡
And guess what: I JUST UPDATED YOU, SO WHERE IS YOUR FUCKING NEW VERSION??? HOW CAN I WAIT 45 MINUTES AND AFTER THAT YOU DID NOTHING!?! HOW CAN I HAVE THE SAME VERSION AS BEFORE??? NOW I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD YOU AGAIN YOU FUCKING PEASE OF SHIT 😡😡😡1 -
"Some settings are managed by your organisation"
I understand the necessity for companies to be able to remotely manage their devices, but my god, I hate working on company laptops sooo much!!
Fun fact, even Chrome can be managed! The can manage everyting. It's called Microsoft Intune. It sucks!! And fucking 45 day PW change policy! And fuck you, Windows Defender Real-time protection which I can't turn off and It's high CPU consumption. Also fuck you Microsoft Teams for scanning. Every. Single. Link. I. Click. On. From. A. Chat. Before. Redirecting. Me. To. The. Actual. Website. Always takes a couple of seconds. Waste of time. Those accumulate over time you know! AND to Windows Update! You already know what is coming next: stop force-updating while I'm in the middle of fucking meeting! I have shit to do! Another fun fact: you can postpone Windows Update by turning the clock back. LIKE PLAYING AN OLD TIME-BASED STRATEGY GAME ON PC IN 1999. (12h work best.) And this fucking weak ass VPN. WHY I PAY FOR 1Gbps WHEN COMPANY VPN ONLY 10Mbps?!! What Am I? A fucking snail! Go faster!! pls!
But, thank god, we can email shit and open attachments in Outlook.9 -

God fucking dammit why are people so fucking lazy? A couple months ago I've had the intern refactor and organise this coworker's spaghetti code, and he did an excellent job, added type safety, etc.
I've took special care to explain it to this coworker that I understand he didn't have time to organise code and the intern took care of it, and to please keep it clean from now on.
Today I had to add a small feature to the same codebase, and every single thing that fucktard added from then on was crammed in the same file. And that guy's been here for 5 years already, I thought I don't have to triple check every single line he writes by now...5 -

ALWAYS read warnings guys.
Story time !
A client of ours has a synchronization app (we wrote it) between his inhouse DB and our app. (No, no APIs on their end. It’s a schelduled task).
Because we didn’t want to ask them for logs every single time, the app writes logs to disk (normal) and in Applications Insights in Azure.
When needed, I can go in portal, get all logs for last execution in a nice CSV file.
Well, recently we added more logs (Some problems were impossible to track).
So client calls us : “problem with XXX”
Me : Goes to Azure, does the same manipulation as always. Dismiss a smaaaaaalish warning without reading. Study logs. Conclusion: “The XXX is not even in the logs, check your DB”.
Little I knew, the warning was telling me “Results are truncated at 10.000 lines”.
So client was right, I was wrong and I needed to develop a small app to get logs with more than 10.000 lines. (It’s per execution. Every 3 hours) -
Every time I have to recall how to LaTeX, it's a huge pain in the ass. It's like learning to code in Greek (I don't know Greek). Happens every single time (it can be months before I need to use it again).
However.
Every time I finish my creation, I fall in love with LaTeX all over again.5 -
Designer ranting about designer.
Most graphic designer in switzerland have no clue on how to build a proper InDesign document. The design looks astonishing but when they want their design printed, they get roasted everytime.
No I can't print this ultra vibrant rgb color. This image has only 72ppi I need 300ppi in order to print this! WTF? What is this color setting? Japanese ICC color profiles? Are you retarded? No this layer composition is horrendous and unusable. WTF? a 60 page business report and no paragraph format presets? How I'm supposed to typeset this shit next year? No I can't print this fucktard, how long have been a graphic designer? 15 years? And you've still produce this crap? .... Every single time.
Thank goodness I don't work in print anymore.1 -
Every single time a cool electronic device comes out, that connects to an API. The nerd in me can’t resist getting on a 3 month waiting list to get said gadget. I impatiently wait. I get gadget. It’s usually cool but never as cool as the marketing made it seem….thats not the rant yet.
Within 2 year the company is gone and i’m left with a $500-$1,000 paperweight that doesn’t work anymore.
This has happened to every single device I have bought that wasn’t from a billion $ company.
These companies would rather screw everyone over instead of simply making the backend of product open-source so people that use the product can at least try to get it working again.
My 1st rant. Sorry in much better in real life at bitching about things 😎7 -
I usually convince myself like "no corporate/government has enough computational resources to classify useful information from enormous pile of worthless junk they could blindly collect from tracking every single step of all their users."
But every time I see this, it's like I hear them saying "Why we should bother? You just handpick the important ones. Thank you."9 -
Wait... so every single time I make an app, I'm technically saving $10,000+ ?

So here's a story..
Whenever we have a job announcement, whether tech or dev, there's this one guy who applies every single time and never gets selected. I have interviewed him once and learnt that he doesn't in fact have the skills or experience we're looking for. Also someone else with better experience applies everytime. He's been doing this for more than 3 years now.
Now WE feel embarrassed everytime he comes in for interview.
You can't blame him for wanting to work so much with one of the best teams in our tiny country. I gotta say I really admire his perseverance and I think and hope that he's gonna find what he's looking for with that kinda perseverance.2 -
My colleague does not use git (well, not for much), hates all external frameworks, and when he sees my code he tells me "that's not how I would have done this", every single goddamn time. Aaand we are the only two developers in our company.4
-
Dad: “Cool! Now you can sit around like you always do!” 😑
Mom: “So you are programming the computer? Can you show me how to do x on my computer/iPhone?” Except it’s the same questions every single time... She never learns...
Brother: Talks to me about jailbreak stuff
And of course, they all ask me how to fix things on different electronics.3 -
I sometimes feel Windows keeps on pushing useless updates, just to mess with the users. Change a single line of code (or rather just add a comment) and push the entire module as new.
How can it be everytime I boot on my windows device, it has an update.
EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. TIME.
Same goes for you steam.2 -
I don't know if anyone else here uses kik but there's something that's been bugging me for a while
Occasionally (frequently) bots start a conversation with you (the typical "come visit my porn website etc etc), right? Now, this has happened to me at least 20 times now, and EVERY single time, the bot's profile picture has loads of translucent yellow stars edited in, and I have no idea why
I can't think of a possible explanation for this, and I've put a lot of thought into it
Attached is a cropped version of what I mean19 -
The feeling when you realize some people on the project are writing legacy code from scratch. Apparently it seems they've never heard of any coding standards, they think clean code and style guidelines are for the weak and single responsibility means one single method is responsible for a bunch of unbelievably diverse things. They are like the Gumbys of the dev realm but it's my brain that hurts every time I have to deal with their code.4
-
I'm a junior dev in a scrum team with two senior devs: one actual senior and one average dev that's just been around for a long time. At stand up meeting, that average senior lists helping me as one of his task Every Single Day. 9 out of 10 times when I ask him a question we end up asking the senior senior together.2

Write a piece of code that works just fine and it's fairly extensible in 20 minutes.
Then proceed to spend the rest of your night rethinking and replacing said piece of code numerous times, with slightly more elegant code.
7 hours later and I'm still not done. Although a fine way to improve your skills, I seriously need to stop doing that for every single thing I write and start managing my time better. Got lots of other stuff I need to be working on...
Surely I can't be the only one doing this4 -

You know what? I've had it with this fucking hopped up country, I've been out the army less than a year and, full disclosure, I knew it was bad but what in the skullfuckery is wrong with the U.K?
Absolute retards everywhere, with some of THE MOST piggish, soul destroying and suicide mongering leaders I have ever met (that's a helluva achievement after 5 years in the army).
The amount of illegal immigrants that don't have a word of English or single thing to give this country, other than paediphilia, rape, knives, debt, and idiocy.
Yet the government is anally raping every single British citizen to give every single immigrant better living conditions than 90% of people who are here legally.
The woke-ism that permeates EVERYTHING is beyond a joke now too. When the hell did basic life become so convoluted, "offensive" and "scary" that primary schools have drag queens coming in to read, sex ed classes that teach shit like sex changes, transitioning, bending to everyone's will, and to be punished for asking questions?
It feels like there's a crushing weight on my chest 24/7 and I can't even speak about it because now free speech can get you demonized , ostracized, and even locked up!
It's okay though, you won't be locked up with any rapists, paedophiles, thieves, or SA's because they're all back on the streets to make space for anyone who dares have a voice.
Every time I talk to people now I feel violent and full of rage. Some of the time it's not even their fault, I'm just being chipped away at. CONSTANTLY.
I'm genuinely scared I'm going to lose my shit and break someone's neck, or my own.
DISCLAIMER: I know other countries have issues waaaay outweighing the UK's, and I'm not minifying them.
ANOTHER DISCLAIMER: as is the way, someone is most likely going to be offended by this post. Scroll the fuck on if that's the case. I'm human too and I need to vent. And this feels like the last safe space I can.50 -
Just realizing now that I've probably spent 60% of my programmer age (years of experience) waiting for dependencies to install and praying that the 9 kB/s connection I'm struggling with remains alive every single fucking time otherwise I have to start the wait all over. 😡😡😡8

So, I'm a veteran. I served in the Army as an information system operator/analyst. Glorified help desk, set up some equipment in the field, a few other small things. But I can make fun of vets, other branches, and those serving. I've paid my dues, and they're OK with it. Hell, they all do it too. But you have to be a vet or currently serving.
I feel like that with tech too. My buddies and I call each other geeks/nerds all the time. I get annoyed (read as pissed off) when someone from the outside does it.
I got an email from a recruiter that said something along the lines of "..basically a bunch of really smart nerds building software..." What the actual fuck? Go eat an entire bag of dicks, and choke on every single one.12 -
I'm pretty sure my clients would fail the marshmallow test 9/10 times if not 10/10 times. We have a certain time period of the day set aside for me to look into new reported bugs but besides that I'm supposed to work on regular tasks. Of course, they ask me five hours after that time period is done, whether I can look into a new (non-urgent) bug. At the cost of the new thing they want to launch in 2 weeks. 🤔 I would love it if we actually had time to fix every single bug in the codebase but what typically happens is I get about 15 bug reports (most duplicates) and I'm expected to fix all of them in a span of 2 hours.1

When they knew that you have IT/CS majors:
Others: "Can you hack my GF/BF facebook account?"

I love how my University CSSE courses make it hard for Windows users.
Student: Is it possible use VALGRIND in Windows CMD?
prof: I don't know, I only use Linux command line. Next question.
All programs must compile and run on Linux using g++. So everyone using windows has strip the IDE bloat and transfer the project files over to the remote Linux lab every single time they compile and run.
Benefits of being a Linux user!5 -
Welcome to this week's episode of "sudo-woodo tries to get a single Python script merged", starring...
•The software architect so senior they were working here while I was still in pre-school. Wasn't added as a reviewer and was completely absent on this project for two months but came in on this PR with a few questions, including questioning design decisions they agreed on the last time they saw the project.
•The QA lead with ten years of experience... in Java. Has never even touched Python and asked to review, only for every issue raised but one stemming from not knowing the language.
•The CI guy. A script guru who will find a problem with literally anything. Honestly the most helpful person of the bunch.
•My coworker. Hasn't said anything yet.

I hate touching my keyboard when I eat... I usually put some video to watch and start eating. But every single time it goes like this:
Me: "Finally finish that piece of code, time to cook some food!"
*After cooking and back in front of my screen ready to enjoy the next episode of my favorite show*
Brain: "Wtf are you doing! You have better things to do than watching this garbage! Like implementing all 101 improvements you thought about while cooking!" -
After finishing apprenticeship my boss wanted to print every source code of our website (also CMS) as well our onlineshop (the whole not just own modules).
His intention was to inspect the code offline so he can i.e. lay sheets side by side for an better overview about any relations. Ich knew that he won't believe me if i tell him that's a bad idea so i printed over 10000 sites of source code.
He never looked a single time over it2 -

Fuck, every time I read something about NFTs I lose another bit of faith in humanity I didn't even know I had.
I mean, I guess someone could make a bunch of cartoon characters (lets say, some sort of "pookey-man") using compatible styles and colour palettes. And I guess you could buy some of those if there is a product that makes trademark recognition a plausible dream (let's say, a videogame and/or anime).
But if the chance of success is akin to the chance of becoming a billionaire solemly from lottery wins, shouldn't the assets be priced accordingly?
Like a couple bucks a pop, at most?
Dropping a cool 30000 quid on a single lotto ticket sounds like the dumbest thing ever.
And yet at least a couple hundred hollow heads did it.
Fuck everything.3 -
About to demo my OS project for a systems programming class. Weird artifacting happening on the right edge of the screen (garbage characters, wrong color, etc.). VGA graphics are too arcane an art for me to figure out in time, so I draw a 1 block thick border around the whole screen and pretend I meant to do it. I updated that bitch every single frame to make sure nothing would ever be drawn on the edges. I got bonus points for making it look nicer.1

Web development:
I'm honestly happy that my toxic "senior" colleague is gone.
- Didnt learn a single thing in the last 10 years. Used godamn serverside rendering with Jquery / plain JS for a highly interactive business Web Application. Yeah boii, save that UI state in the relational database, good job.
- Every error in his shit was the error of someone else.
- Manipulative as hell. Type of guy that is your best buddy to gather information.
- Blocked entire technical progress in the Web department by manipulating people. Understandable. I mean if your legacy shit is gone...
- Kept backend developers from doing their job with unjustified complaints about structures... etc to justify that he needed an insane amount of time to implement simple things.
- Cried for every shit to be documented to the last bits. Did never do any documentation himself.
Fuck these people, honestly.1 -

www.sheffieldbusinessawards.org.uk
6 days. From scratch. AFTER a freelancer fucked up the first build in Wordpress, which took 36 days.
I've since rebuilt this - http://sba.rcg-dev.com/ in another 28 hours of work time, to give it more functionality for the 2016 Awards. Bare in mind - there is a fully bespoke, from the ground up CMS that manages every single piece of content on the website.5 -
Fucking search bars. It seems like no one is interested in making search on their website actually work. It always gives me some random shit all while missing relevant results I can find myself by scrolling through menus. It’ll miss stuff even while searching the exact subtext. Every. Single. Time.
If it’s not an open source library’s docs with Algolia, you can forget about their search bar.5 -
FLOATING POINT PRECISION! FUCK YOU! Spent so much time trying to figure out what was wrong with an algorithm I made to calculate and correct bounding only to finally realise, after printing out every single variable and calculating everything manually to realise the value was off by 0.0001 which made it skip an if statement. Ughhhhhhhh, so much freaking time wasted2
-
I know this guy through some mutual friends that tries to brag about everything he does that involves a computer in some way.
One time (probably 4 months ago), he used inspect element to replace the text on the Google homepage with like Amazon versions (Amazon mail, Amazon drive, etc), then proceeded to take a picture of the screen WITH HIS PHONE and show every single person he saw.
Every time I talk to him, he always brings up some pointless thing he did to make it seem like he knows what he's doing. But whenever I mention some more specific stuff (today I mentioned Linux), he claims to know exactly what I'm talking about but quickly changes the subject to something about his car (he drives a Jeep and has to let everyone know, like an Arch Linux user)
Dude just claims to know everything there is to know and can't back it up and it gets more annoying every fucking day
Anyone else ever have to deal with someone that clearly don't know a ton, but knows just enough to be dangerous/annoying as fuck?14 -
I just found out you can commit single lines of a file without the necessity to remove temporarily debug lines every time ... it has blown my mind.8
-
I'm fucking done.
I honestly can't see how developers like to work for years on a single project. Nothing on the side, just the one project. Fuck I'm a year in and I've already been pushing my patience.
After working on something for half a year I want some diversity, but every time I ask for it I get the "we need you doing this" card. I've asked plenty of times for my manager to find someone else to do part of my work, and every time I get the same thing. "We're looking for someone, don't worry". Yeah my ass you've been saying that for months and I still haven't seen a job opening.
Honestly, in a month or so I'm gonna tell my manager that I'm quitting soon, so he has some time to actually go look for someone. If he doesn't, not my problem.
For real though, the company is nice, people are chill, I'm just lacking challenge, and no matter how many times I bring it up, nothing's being done with it.
What will I do when I quit? I have no fucking clue, but anything's better than doing the same repetitive shit day in day out. Fuck it I'll probably go balls deep on my own projects for a few months, see if I can generate an income there.
If that doesn't work out I'll just go back to the life of sucking someone's dick for a monthly salary.4 -
Why have so many fucking websites the signup form in the start page but you have to click in the menu to get to the login?!

So my boss started to use https://toggl.com and now every single clients calling must be tracked by our timer.
This specific time I forgot to activate it as he called, but by the time I got to start the timer the fix was already finished...
IDK if I'm too fast or the client to stupid to fix his shit by himself6 -
The most annoying hack I've had to deal with was back when I did IT support, actually. Level 1 call center tech at the time. Apparently someone fell for a phishing email and gave out his outlook credentials. The phisher used that email account to send out another phishing email to roughly 1800 employees.
Security Operations noticed, because this guy's job didn't generally involve sending out mass-communication emails. They investigated, figured out what had happened, and opted for the nuclear option: they reset the password for EVERY SINGLE ACCOUNT that received the email. All 1800 of them. Over the weekend.
I walked into the call center Monday morning and checked the call stats, then did a double-take. There were over 300 people waiting in the queue. I almost left and called in sick. Turns out it wasn't that bad though. Annoying to reset so many passwords and having no downtime due to the full queue, but on the other hand my stats were better that day than any other, since every call was a 5-minute password reset.1 -
I’m starting to flat out not trust my team. Every single time I delegate a task it comes back with massive bugs and features missing.5

The Javascript build/bundling eco system is killing me every time I try to get into it.
Me: oh vite, a nice and fast bundle that supports hmr
Me: works like a charm
Well until I discovered that exporting a self contained bundle with Inlined dependencies is not a thing and you have to pray that your framework provides such plugins
The world of js/jsx/tsx bundling, building, tree shaking, transpiling, Inlining, transforming is such a wild west and that on top of an already very unstable layer of different frameworks that work so fundamentally different that you cannot apply a single principle to even 2 of then (from a building/ssr/bundling perspective)

Thanks GitLab.
After I get notifications about the final replies to my 6 month quest of updating someones GitLab README, I didn't expect MY fork to have been modified ( and thanks to that, made ugly / they removed all spacing, vertical & horizontal )
Where the fuck even was the option that GitHub offers where it prevents people from just doing whatever to your shit in a PR?
Why the fuck isn't this a permanent setting for either ( lab & hub ) so I don't have to manually turn it off every single time.
I didn't even think about that option up until now, since the maintainers didn't touch anything and everything seemed fine, but now that it was about to be merged, they suddendly got the bright idea of squashing everything into one commit and that on my fork itself, .. really helpful.5 -

So let's say you spent over a day trying to clone WebKit using git but it failed every single time. Because the WebKit repo is HUGE (at least 7GB of worthless bloated refs), your connection is unstable, and git doesn't resume.
Then you discover you can solve the issue by simply cloning it via SVN in your cmake script.
Then you hit build, and forget that you had `-j 8` set in your IDE settings.
Then your computer freezes when it tries to compile 8 of WebKit's "UnifiedSourceXXX.cpp" files at a time, and all your 16GB of RAM get obliterated.
What the fuck, universe?1 -
I HATE SPRING JPA HIBERNATE AND EVERYTHING RELATED TO FUCKING JAVA.
Everything behaves like it was created with a human as an afterthought, so it torments people and target audience are masochists. This whole ecosystem is an abomination of the software world.
Every fucking error has a thousand possible solutions for every single person AND NOT A SINGLE ONE WORKS!!!
The stupid thing will just keep throwing its internal problems in a stack DUMP DIARRHEA that you have to sort through to find anything remotely useful! I DON’T give a fuck about your stupid internal implementation, just tell me what the fuck you want!
And you have to play the guess game and find the right combination of their stupid little configurations to make it barely work. I couldn’t believe reading stackoverflow, people are just poking at it hoping it will work. And I’m literally stuck and can’t fix the damn thing no mater what I do, and I’m abandoning it.
I won’t touch this pice of shit with a twenty meter pole ever again! Last time I was this frustrated was the stupid java ee. Nothing in the software world has frustrated me this much. How does one even come up with this…

I'm not fan of games.. good work google and AI and alll stuff8 -
I'm trying to build VoIP into my browser-based game, and holy shit are sound processing people bad at explaining stuff.
Every stackoverflow answer has badly named variables, noone names the algorithms they're using (which makes research near impossible), and literally every single Web Audio API pipeline I have seen so far contains at least one unexplained effect with no parameters, but it's a different effect each time.
One guy had implemented some kind of smoothing for catching up with the stream after interruptions (where the playback speed is proportional to how far we're behind the intended latency), without ever mentioning it anywhere. And this is meant to be a basic example!4 -
Just wish I could swap a portion of my dev super powers for something more f’king practical like being able to do DIY or mix cement and lay bricks properly.

I work on many projects at work. There's divisions of teams and each team typically has one project. Each one of those projects have weekly Sprint meetings.
That's great! For the team. That means each team has one meeting a week so it's not too disruptive for those individuals.
Me on the other hand? I've got my hand in all the buckets. I'm on every team. I'm the only person on every team. This means I get to go to every meeting.
Let me rephrase that:
This means I -have- to go to every. Single. Meeting.
Which means I have a meeting every. Single. Day. Even if I didn't touch that project that week.
It is literally THE biggest waste of time. I sit there in a 1-2 hour long meeting saying absolutely nothing, not even being spoken to. I could be working on other projects.
And these meetings normally interrupt something I'm working on. Conveniently in the middle of me being in my zone. It makes me completely un-motivated to work for the hour before the meeting because why bother if I'm just going to get interrupted? And then it takes an hour to get back into everything after the meeting because everyone is fooling around or complaining about the meeting.
So that's three hours of my 8 hour work day completely wasted.3 -
So my Windows 10 after April Creators Update (aka Nothing Works) gets BSOD when I turn off Bluetooth, doesn’t recognize my headphones, turns them off if it does, WiFi forgets password after every single restart, most of the time I need to force Safe Mode to get the computer to boot because it freezes on black screen with cursor...

Okay, Google. Stop this.
I'm very upset. Drive applications have gotten slower and slower over time on every single browser that isn't chromium based. This isn't their fault. You can't make your application, that tons of institutions pay for, gradually slower on every browser that's not yours. This never used to be a problem, and now it affects everyone *but you*. It's highly suspicious given your track record with YouTube. Hidden div over the video to prevent hardware optimization. What the hell?
You used to be the only big 4 company I had some trust left in. Over the last few months, I've lost it.11 -
My productivity is dying for want of a second monitor. I've been hooking up a new-ish HP external LCD to my brand new HP Spectre laptop. Every time I do this, the laptop soon locks up. Was installing Arch linux in dual boot with Windows and I fucked up.
Now I can't boot back into Windows. I tried to restore the boot 'thing' and I wasn't able to.
So tomorrow I will have to reinstall every single program I had since Microsoft doesn't make installed softawared recoverable.
P.S. This is the 4th time I try to install Arch without success (had problems with the bootloader, kde and gpu drivers and ended up bricking the os) but I'm still going to try until I get it to work. Why? Because I hate my life.7 -
Why are project/tool webpages so useless...?
I mean, whenever I hear of a new tool/project I google its name. Of course, its dedicated webpage pops up as result #1. And EVERY TIME I find them looking nice, but quite confusing, riddled with all the buzzwords, nice phrases, promises of a better tomorrow,... but I'm yet to find a tool's webpage that explains what's that tool for and how to use it at least half as concisely and clearly as that tool's README.md in its GH/GL repo.
I mean, I can read every single word in the webpage, look at every picture/diagram, every fancy gif and still in absolute majority of cases I have no clue what that tool does.
Then I go to its GH/GL repo, read the first 2 sections of its README.md (takes me what, 2-4 minutes?) and I know all I need to now about the tool.
What's the point of those fancy webpages apart from containing docs and an SEO-tuned link to a README.md...?
Useless waste of storage and computing power if you asked me.rant pretty and dumb repository projects not clear tools description buzzwords readme.md useless webpages6 -

I spent about an hour writing my own password generator at work... (And probably my item password safe) because my company doesn't allow using Keepass...
But require super complex passwords... That need to be exactly 8 characters...
And they expect us to somehow think of and remember them... And change it every 6 months....
As a developer, isn't it a given that if we can't have something, we'll just build one ourselves... But one that is lower quality since it is adhoc and with by a single dev... That doesn't have time or the experience of a domain expert...
They also blocked GitHub/Sourceforge so I can't just download from my own repo... And basically need to do it on company time... For better or worse.8 -
Every single time I present a tool for data visualization:
"Oh that's great! Have you considered integrating it with service XYZ? It would be great to see the data from XYZ alongside this."
The answer I would like to give:
"No, you retard! Nobody gives a fuck about your crappy service! Nobody uses it, not even your own team! This is the 10th service that I've been asked to integrate and I don't have time to dig into the details of yet-another-shit. If you have time to waste, please go ahead but don't bother me."2 -
Can we please stop making everything in javascript? Pretty please?
Like, I get it, js makes it easier to find developers and speeds up development, but writing a compiler to run on node? That doesn't make any sense to me. Typescript is taking ~11s to compile a medium-sized project, out of which ~9s are just type-checking (if I disable type-checking it takes ~2s to compile). Even Rust, which is considered to have a slow compiler (because of the borrow checker I assume) takes less time to compile a project of roughly the same size.
This is getting very irritating. If I want to keep type-checking, every single time I make a change on a single file I have to wait 11s before any tests start running. This was heavily affecting my productivity (and sanity), so I decided to disable type-checking and threw out the window 90% of Typescript's advantages.
Why the hell wasn't typescript written in an actually performant language? Just so you could say that typescript is written in itself? I don't get it, I really don't.14 -
Last night I looked at an Android app.
Going to put it bluntly, I don't like java much.
But Android takes it to a whole new level.
I was talking to our (SlimRoms) framework dev about how the database transactions used to take 400ms, and it was cut down to 10ms by, changing to xml with some kind of a reflector (so xml would be saved in the background).
This is atrocious. As a web developer, I live in a world where you can do thousands of transactions in that time (albeit on faster hardware).
So how is it that all of the abstractions in Android add up to a single read/insertion in Android (and I'm talking about an app written by Google) takes 400ms?
Every time I go in that channel to talk to them, I find something screwed up. Gah.4 -
I dont know why but everytime I want to make something I start out, find out its not possible and when Ive put it down and wait a few days there will be an sdk availble to make it possible.
5 days ago I started making a toll which reads the current song playing in spotify and it should send it to discord so other people can see the music Im listening to.
2 days ago I put the project down because there was no SDK available.
Yesterday the SDK for Rich Presence got released so I could continue where I left off. -
So i am stuck, i have assignments to complete, i know what i need to do, but every single time i sit down to write them up, my mind goes blank and i get extremely fustrated any advice? thanks.5

Dear Windows,
Why can't you FUCKING remember my choice to "Open folder to view files"? WHY BOTHER asking every single time I plug in a USB if you can't be fucked to remember what I say?? Why is this even an issue?3 -

Recent rant about hipster styled mobile-first websites which actually look awful on a desktop PC reminded me of this. How is this a good UX if I have to zoom out your page every single time? C'mon, I am not blind ffs!
You want some relevant info? How about a video that takes 90% of your screen instead?6 -
@dfox when will the feature of blocking users and blocking spamvotes be introduced. Im getting really annoyed by it every single time 30+ upvotes are given to my rants within a minute...
Its both ruining my overview of notifs and ruining the meaning of upvotes.21 -
Man, i hate these Windows 10 updates. Can't even boot up system properly anymore. Over an hour and half wasted with failed update installation EVERY SINGLE TIME!!
Happening 3rd time just today!
Why tf you trying to install update if its gonna fail?!!
I wish I could stop getting Windows 10 updates forever. Guys, Any ideas to block updates other than switching to linux?..6 -
No I don't want your updates every single day, Windows 10. Maybe I don't want to be so edgy with your updates. May be I like it XP style when updates didn't used to bug me with every single boot up and power down. It has become even worse. Who thought defering updates to the next boot up was a good option? It fucking interferes with the flow of work. They were like -
"You know what, let's update till 35% and then fucking update the remaining 65% at next boot"
"But users will be frustated"
"We'll show the update screen with clean font and a nice background. It will calm them down"
"Okay, so let users choose when to download the updates"
"That's not a fucking option, mate"
And if you are going to force updates down our throats please fucking mention what is being changed as a short description instead of showing a 'KBxxxxxxx' update number! If not that, at least hyperlink the thing to your update docs page! OR Mention a version buff if not it! I HATE seeing 'Update for Windows 10 Version xxxx for x64-based Systems' EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I see an update ready to be downloaded.
And no I don't play Candy Crush, or other games that are pre-installed as soon as I re-install fresh Windows or go on Xbox App. I hate to do this ritual of turning off auto download from Windows Store every time. So please don't pre-configure anything for me. Keep it fucking raw. That's why Linux distros win.
I'm just saying, Service Packs were a great thing with a need of little improvements. You guys ruined the whole experience, Microsoft.2 -
Why comment on the same thing during code review??
I submitted a PR and had to make a design choice that propagated throughout the module i was working on.
During code review, my coworker commented on every...single...line that this change effected asking "why are we doing x here?" instead of just creating ONE SINGLE THREAD with this question for discussion. There were at least 10 review comments on github from their one review that said "why X?"
Is this normal? Ive only had a few programming jobs and this is the first time this has happened to me.
personally, when someone makes a choice like that, i just make a comment and save the rest of the review until that is addressed.5 -
Rejections flying left and right and i’m getting tired of it. I’m already applying for a month and have been to 10 companies, made multiple assignments but it’s the same fucking story every single time.

Is there a thing like getting shadowbanned from downvoting on devrant or people just running bots that automatically upvote them if they hit negative upvotes?
Whenever I downvote anything thats at 0 upvotes (for ex. even spam that just didnt get noticed, where I cant report it on desktop), it instantly gets nulled, even on the most hidden and old rants.
I dont think theres always a registered user per every single rant out there at any given time that upvotes somebody. (often very deep down the comments)13 -
So, we are having a SaaS service for people where they can build X stuff. It is all fine as long as you are using basic things there, no complex cases and so on. Even on some complex - it does work just fine.
Here's the rant itself:
The production server throws us errors every 5-10 minutes that something broke and fails to do job X. At first we were all hands on deck fixing it ASAP to make it stable to later realise that most of these cases were users doing stupid shit. Then we began to fix the core issues rather than chasing every single issue there is (costs are important you know) - funny enough, we get few support requests a week and our 1h response time + 24h fix time usually buys us that customer and allows t o leave a great impression.
So all in all, bugles production is good but great support - is way better. Users can deal with issues especially if they are experimenting there but when they need answers - you'd better give it to them.1 -
How the hell am I meant to get a new job in Edinburgh/Glasgow so I can learn React/Angular/Vue when no-one will hire someone without experience in those frameworks?!
I was in 2 roles back to back and in that time, every single Front End Development role now available in the market requires commercial experience in React/Angular/Vue in order to proceed.
Even the 18k Grad/Junior Development roles require commercial experience in some sort of JS Framework yet I'm certainly not a Grad/Junior.
HOW DOES ANYONE USE IT COMMERCIALLY IF THEY'VE GOT NO EXPERIENCE.
I'm doomed.
For the record, I'm a Front End Developer with 3 Years of experience with personal study experience in React.2 -
Out of curiosity for all the front-end web developers, do you normally test to make sure that your websites are accessible to the blind, color-blind etc.. ? (and i'm not just talking about "alt" attributes)
I've been working as a web developer for over 5 years now at several different companies with close to 100 websites and not a single one seemed to have even considered it. The first time it came up was because a client REQUIRED conformance level AA or higher (I had no idea this was even a thing). In my opinion, ensuring that your website is at least somewhat accessible should be an essential step in every project.
If anyone's looking for some tools to make testing easier you can check these out:

Person : Today you worked for 18 hours. What did you accomplish?
Me : I did no progress in the code base.
Person : How is that possible? You were on the IDE all the time.
Me : When you have a huge package pulled in, that takes 3 hours to build, for every single change you do,
And the build path is screwed :D2 -
Our "agile" process uses one-month long sprints, ending on the last day of the month with a demo. (I'll rant some other time about non-consistent iteration lengths.)
Our sprint ends today (Monday). What was the most logical time to introduce changes that affect the architecture and break every single build? How about 4PM last Friday?
We're still waiting on the build breaker to show up while trying to figure out what the heck we can cobble together and run to show that we actually did something in the last month.2 -
I don't know who tf thought it would be a good idea to implement Workspace Trust in an IDE and force enable it on update. Yeah. It's so fun having to click "I trust this workspace" every single time when I get a new project or a code from someone, even when I open a project that I created but didn't open since this update.3

Not Dev related but I'm super fucking excited and have to vent somewhere and fuck Facebook and Twitter.
Purchased a smoke infuser and just ordered some hickory and applewood chips... As soon as this shows up I'm going to be infusing every single item in my kitchen!
Got a feeling cooking is going to start taking away valuable Dev time!2 -
Chocalate filled donuts are demonic they taste like they are filled with hopes and dreams, but every single one of them probably carries the amount of sugar a human can ever need in his life time. Making a function pointer in C and typedef-ing it.
Done wrong. Every single time.
Look up in the internet.
Copy a typdef-d function pointer.
It works.
Check it's syntax.
THE SAME FCKIN SYNTAX AS DONE FIRST!
And that's why I hate function pointers.2 -
Every. Single. Time. I've tried to learn and implement proper Unit/Instrumentation testing, the main Android devs decide to go for something else or introduce some feature or Gradle plugin that breaks every tutorial out there. I find it way easier to just test everything manually than learning the new yearly trend. Am I the only one?1
-
I'm in a situation at work where management and even the team I'm on, does not want to create a test suite, because:
1. It takes time to get decent code coverage. Time that could be spend doing new features
2. My team doesn't like to test.
We're now in a situation where we break something every single fucking time we relase and the manager just ignore that it's now a common occurrence. It it literally just a matter of time before the entire fucking backend will shit itself over poorly maintenanced code (who has time to do refactoring anyway) and poorly tested flow.
It annoys me greatly that a developer with many years of experience fails to see and understand that just doing test by hand, screws us over so badly.
As a junior dev, i would like to know, how are your team dealing with testing?
Because we're clearly not...9 -
How often does this happen to you?
Hmm I need to install the nodemon package, ok so I enter:
npm install -g nodemon
Result:
npm WARN
npm WARN

I then wonder why would it not work??? Then after looking at the errors I realise ohh:
sudo npm install -g nodemon
This literally happens to me almost every single time I install a package.8 -
Our time recording software (based on SAP) triggers a blocking synchronous web service call every single time you do *anything*. Imagine having to wait 10 seconds every time you:
- put a number in a cell
- select a row
- press anything on the screen
Oh and when you lose connection nothing is saved and you have to start again (wtf was it even sending to the server)2 -

I'm so fucking done with this shit. If someone forgets every git command every single fucking tim le is ok to ask. Every time someone asks advice on how to write a fucking retarded workaround (out of lazyness, because fixing their own code is too much to ask), it'a ok.
The *ONE* fucking time i ask the name of the fucking function to generate a filter via code using their fucking cms? "you should do that via gui!" "who cares if there'll be conficts with git, just manually redo everything in production!".
God fucking dammit how can you even have the balls to complain about terrible planning and stuff not working if that's your fucking mantra?!2 -
My Senior posts on LinkedIn about fostering a good work environment, but nobody in our office talks to each other and every time he comes in I get 45 trello cards about what I’ve not done right. Not a single time have I got a ‘well done, you’ve really taken initiative, you’ve managed to do something new without any guidance’
What’s the point in being on a juniors salary if I’m not being taught anything?5 -
Okay, so, my company does some stuff around blockchain. I had source for smart contract prepared before and it was on 'todo' queue. So, time for it, time to deploy on Kovan, time to test it on actual chain. Riiiight? Okay compiled no problem, deployed, no problem, i plug into several gui's ABI provided by compiler, and... Well..
I still do not understand why each and every gui prompted me to send view transactions (external view), instead of, well, eval them locally, i checked the ABI manually, it is correct, i stripped it down, it is correct, all up to spec.
I try older version of offline MEW, to have older web3.js with no success that thing works properly.
Every
Single
Web3.js based client
Behaved
Differently
And none behaved correctly.
I would, like, understand, if I didnt use official compiler, but official compiler should for F sakes be compatible with official client.
Today this stole 6 hours of my life, I didnt manage to solve it, and I am legitmitely pissed.
Im getting close to re-implement segment of web3JS to be able to do the tests I need to do.
Its not like I havent done it before.... -
JQuery is not badly designed... It's not designed at all.
JQuery is just awful and it's being used by people who know nothing about programming... Hell, some of the JQuery developers were not even programmers or had programmed before.
JQuery is a part of the whole "Wordpress community/world" and that world is full of people who doesn't understand what they are doing, Wordpress isn't designed either (that's why Wordpress stores serialized data in a structured database).
Every single Wordpress theme developer includes JQuery and it's disgusting. Most of the time, they don't even use it.
JQuery is not Javascript on steroids, it's javascript with cancer. Get rid of it. It's bloated and only lazy people use it. (JQuery will give you about 200ms extra response time for your site)5 -
I managed to remember some old Bitwarden (password manager service, I remember that linuxxx recommended me this one a looong time ago) credentials, so I logged in. I found an old devRant account - not my first though (I deleted it).
I've been a random lurker all this time (this is the first dev community I've been and I'm not planning to leave it until it dies), and it's good to login just to give my 2 cents.
I love you all. Seriously. I love you all with every single bit of my heart (get it?), impartially. Thanks for existing.
Here's an interrupted "caramelCase posted a new rant!"; it's actually longer but a wild guy ++'d my comment.

Joined a new project. The codebase is… Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, is there ANY decent project in vue which has an hint of readibility in this damn world?
Every single time anyone talks about vue I roll my eyes “no I swear we managed it well!” 600 lines of code components. Is there even a good way to structure it for big apps?9 -
I haven't touched my OpenVPN server configuration in almost a year. Everything seemed to "just work" the way I wanted it.
I have now just found out that all ipv6 DNS queries were actually going to the wrong ip.
Why am I such a magnet for stupid shit like this?
Every time I try to do something beautiful, elaborate, complex, I always get some small shitty detail wrong.
It's like "close, but no cigar".
Every.

Bonus fun fact: I only found out thanks to Windows' DNS leak feature. Thanks, Windows!5 -
My buddy needs website, I helped him to setup localhost, and told him I can work on backend if he wants, he is my good friend so I could even do it for free if he shares some income later down the line but he would need frontend anyway, so someone would need to do it. Some consideration later it turns out that there is noone to do the FE, so that is trashed and instead Im solving wordpress problems for him whenever he has them..
God... I forgotten why I hate wordpress... Every single time I helped him I felt like Im doing workaround to workaround and it somewhat works like its supposed to...
Edit: fixed wording11 -

Filtering stored procedures by name in SQL Management Studio. Enter name and press enter. Cursor goes to next cell, instead of submitting.
I do this every single time. -
Here is a gem I found when looking at the previous offshore team's database.
So apparently they didn't know that SQL has an ALTER TABLE command to add new columns. So they created a brand new table, version 2, THEN migrated all the data over, every single time a new field was needed.
Then of course they had to update all their code that previously looked at the original table and the clients had to resync data onto the tablets as well.
Maybe they thought it was a good solution since they don't know what database versioning is (something they also manually implemented) or that ORMs exist.
**Sanitized the table names but kept the general structure, casing, etc

If you publish a package over Composer - or in fact any package manager that allows optional dependencies - please don't make dependencies that aren't **absolutely necessary** required.
Is it a theme for your nice app? Don't make it required, some are not going to want to use this theme and don't want to deploy extra Megabytes to their servers every single time.
In fact, someone may even want to replace that dependency with a fork, like a customized version of that theme because it is not flexible enough! Forcing that dependency means it can only be replaced with hacks.
I am looking at you, `oxid-esales/oxideshop-metapackage-ce`, with your extra themes and demoshop data that makes the Deployer tool push and copy around half a Gigabyte of unused assets on a website every single deployment!!2 -
God DAMN IT!!!!
I swear, every single time I get close to a Spring project I'm elbows deep in shit.
Like this case... I have to explicitly specify @DependsOn for my @Component, so Spring could autowire constructor parameters. If I don't, sometimes the app starts fine (if I start it through IDE) and sometimes it fails, saying bean could not be created (apparently, there's some functionality gap causing PostProcessors not to be called if the bean is first touched by a constructor autowirer)
when they say frameworks are good and fast, I say "LOOK AT MY LIFETIME SPENT WORKAROUNDING THEIR ERRORS!!!" -
Does anybody else have the project where every time you try to change something, no matter how small, you always end up screwing it up and needing a bunch more time to fix it just to get back to the starting position?
I have this project I've done, a custom Ambilight system for my TV, and everytime I try to add a feature the lights stop working altogether... Tried adding detection of when I start my media player to automatically start the Ambilight mode (I made several modes, one of which is just shine a certain color all the time which is great if you don't want to use normal lights and want to be able to control the lights from your phone).
I had the code for detecting app start and stop from before when I implemented it for a slightly different system. I just changed the few things that are different and poof, no more lights... I managed to forget the other system checked a flag after every process exit and overrode the mode and I removed the setting of the flag, but not reading of it...
Every single time I do changes on this it's something... Other projects sometimes go smoothly, sometimes not, but this one just doesn't want to be kind to me....
Results are awesome, though :)5 -
[Week 44 rant] Worst CS teacher experience:
In Uni (aka college), CS teacher would show introductory C code during the lecture, then proceed to run it... And compilation errors. And then spend the next 45 mins trying to fix it. Usually they would get it working in the last 5 mins of the one hour lecture.
This would go on every single lecture for the next 10-12 weeks.
Most of it was basic stuff like hello world through to sorting algorithms etc.
At the time it was pretty silly and 3/4 of the class stopped attending the lectures...
----------------
In hindsight maybe it was all intentional and training us for what real dev life would be like? -
Hey devRant! Long time no see
I recently landed a job as a java developer so that's amazing
Still getting my head around the company's codebase, and holy fuck its huge.
I was taught best oop practices and patterns in CS class, but seeing them implemented in such a huge project is kinda pisssing me off: every single thing in the code has dozens of classes that call and implement each other, I spend half my time spamming the "open declaration" shortcut in a futile attempt to understand how the pieces fit together.
Sometimes I wish they had stuck to implementing everything in a handful of files, instead of the jungle of nested packages and references I got :pensive:
Oh well at least most thing are documented
I kinda get y some people despise java for being so verbose and forcing strict pop on the programmer XD4 -

Ubuntu installation freezing every single time I try to install it. Trying since yesterday. Dammit Ubuntu!19
-
Every. Single. Time.
Push APK to device. Runs.
Make code change. Try to run - but device not shown in ADB list.
Only this sequence works, and not every time:
1. Turn off USB debugging on device
2. Turn off debug mode with toggle on device
3. Turn back on debug mode, then toggle USB debugging
4. Wait for prompt, allow debugging from computer.
If I check remember this computer, then I need to add the extra step to revoke authorizations.
Why. WHY Can't I just push to my device while its plugged in more than ONE TIME4 -
Oh man, you guys get two rants for the price of one tonight.
DEVRANT IS RUNNING REALLY FUCKING SLOW. I know the platform has been 5.999999 feet under for about 4 years now, but it's starting to get reallllly grim.
Also: single wick candles always fucking tunnel. My girlfriend is trying to say I use them wrong. I do not. I burn them for long periods of time and they still have a huge fucking coating of wax on the outside. My triple wick candle is perfect. Burns to a nice puddle of liquid wax on the top every single time. Can we get SOMEONE working on fixing this?????3 -
Sometimes I need to talk about what I create. Which requires fucking Powerpoint 'cause you have to distribute your shit to dorks who only can live with this crap.
And then every single fucking time I touch that stinking abscess I have visions of shoving some white glowing rod of spiky steel up the arseholes of the inventors and maintainers of Powerpoint, enjoying their screams and regretting that I will be able to enjoy this exquisite pleasure only once per asshole.3 -
I guess you could say that my speciality is cloud at scale. I’d say it chose me more than I chose it.
Looking back on it though, I think what I like about my speciality is the unique challenges it brings.
Every speciality has its own set of challenges, like tight resource limits in embedded, or client-server synchronisation in native/mobile.
The challenge of cloud at scale is throughput. Designing systems that can support 100K users making a bazillion requests a second, or a data pipeline firing events that you need to process in near real time without dropping a single one.
The real challenge of course is doing all this within a sensible budget. We have virtually infinite compute but we dont have infinite dollars to spend on it.
Its a fun problem to solve.3 -

This might sound like generalisation but the amount of paper people in France (atleast Paris) waste uneccesarily is shocking. It disturbs me to see some jackass printing pages after pages of garbage in the office each time they want to check if a printer is working as expected. Or the professors using huge white sheets to explain shit when the white board is right fucking behind them (to add to it, they use only one side of the sheet). Or literally every single store handing out paper receipts for a 1€ chocolate I buy. Why isn't their a digital alternative? Why are people so not bothered about how much they're fucking the planet just coz they have enough resources to live happily?
If machines ever overthrow humanity, I'm sure they'll do a better job in tidying up everything.4 -
Where do I request a new word to English dictionary? Apparently, template is now tempalte according to my fingers >_>2

Shame on you Facebook Developers!
I’m neither messy or anal coder, but whenever I push something to production I make sure to handle all debugger warnings... I don’t think it’s perfectionism, rather good practice, makes important bugs easier to find. ;)
A single Facebook SDK Framework has 70+ unhandled warnings, trivial things, could be fixed in a half day...
I had to use ‘inhibit_all_warnings!’ flag literally for the first time, not to get frustrated every time it gets updated :/
P.S Not to mention I had to change the dependency manager because (with the newest update) they have written themselves out of compatibility with the one I was using... C’mon guys. Not cool. -
To me this is when you have that one breakthrough you spend considerable time on and with the divine knowledge of a peer collegue solves it in minutes... That feeling of enlightenment. That is what drives me everyday. Learning from mistakes, record progress, expand your knowledge, and call for help when you're stuck. Every single day.
-
So.
I just sat here and listened to some awful gibberish that sounded kind of like the language a person would use to describe logistics or construction, but that still lacked so much filler language that a straight spew of jargon doesn't seem likely.
reminds me of every single time I hear someone describe new technology that ends up bombing.
like the push towards graph databases which I personally can't understand the underlying storage mechanism which would make them work
of someone describing locks to your house that can be unlocked from a cellphoen over the internet.
or 2 form factor authentication and what happens if you lose your phone and there is no customer service ?
on that last maybe they could take a sample of every customers voice every year or a fingerprint or a blood sample :P1 -
Dear Python linters, why can't any of you implement some actual linting features? Like, say, consistent use of single or double quotes? Or dict() vs {}? How about indenting nested function calls? Forcing list / set / dict literals as multiline? Trailing commas?
And while I'm at it, why can't you handle dependencies properly? Say, separating linter & linter plugins from the remaining dependencies in a way where I don't have to manually remove them from the requirements lockfile every time?3 -
Well, I thought "hey, I need to urgently update my own infra for a change, been neglecting this way too long, but should not be longer then a day."
I spent the whole weekend dependency resolving, modulesyncing and ensure deps are met ... And every single goddamn time it's stdlib causing a whoupsie on another module...
Oh at least I am having fun. Sort of. -
Why?! Why do companies need to build a useless application for their product every... single... time? It's not like I'm going to watch the state of my (future) pension every single day, I only want to update my personal information.
(I kinda get why, but still, you can get similar features out of a PWA as well, which is less annoying for the end user)2 -
I have to confess, the first time I saw a framework like bootstrap I hated it because I didn't understood most of the HTML with a lot of tags with classes everywhere. It took me like 3 weeks to learn how to use it right and I made 3 websites from 0 in the process.
One day I read about a framework that uses Material Design rules (which I apply in my electronic projects with rgb screens). Since that moment I started to use it. I love how easy it´s to do a complex thing with a few lines.
For those who are starting with web design, give it a try to these frameworks. They will make your life easier. I was the kind of guy that writes every single line of html, css and javascript by hand.5 -
I have a lot of meetings and that makes it difficult to answer my workphone. One guy has been calling me every single time I have a meeting and he never answers when I try to call back.
He can contact me through email, ticketing system or Teams, but nope, he keeps calling my phone.
I send him a message through Teams asking if he can tell what the issue is.
He tells me he will just call me via phone.. Why?! Even calling through Teams would be better! Just tell me what the issue is! -
I look at the "Discover Repositories" sidebar every time I log into github. I've found some really cool stuff that way.
But I'm really confused as to why I keep getting typescript-related repositories there.
I've never created a ts repository
I've never made a pull request that had ts in it.
I've never created an issue in any ts repositories.
I've never even written a single line of ts.
The only reason I can think of is that I was browsing the official typescript language wiki for a few minutes...
A COUPLE WEEKS AGO
Yet sometimes, all 3 repos in the side bar have typescript in the title.
TL;DR: github, please stop pushing typescript on me.2 -
System malfunction: *appears out of the blue*
Me: *searching for THE problem*
Seniors: - it's never just a single problem...
WTF!?!? How come? How many problems are likely to appear out of the blue to cause some malfunction?
Every time.
Every time I'm debugging smth others say it's always multiple problems.
Every time I find a single root cause
seriously, guys, how often is it multiple problems. Honestly, I've never had more than a single root cause. And I've cracked a looooot of them.
Where does that belief come from?2 -
Forgot to "git rebase --continue" after fixing conflicts, wondering why my code doesn't work. EVERY SINGLE TIME ahhhhhhhh1

MATLAB literally has matrix in the name but the fucking array start at 1 thing fucks up every single time I try to use a matrix or array. How do you do the one thing you designed your program to do so fucking poorly. Whoever decided they were going to make arrays start a 1 for a matrix manipulation program should be hung and quartered.4

Got a guy trying to convince bosses of enforcing ESlint rules or whatever
This is the same guy that came into our repository forcing this shit on every single file he touched, when we had a different, established style
I shouldn't have let his new style enforced by ESlint defaults pass the first time in code review
Like, WHY the fuck do you want to be the enforcer of styles when you started shitting on what was there in the first place
Jesus fucking Christ5 -
I think YouTube gave up on trying to send me ads.
I have an adblocker in my desktop but not on my phone. In all of my years using YouTube, I've only ever clicked on an add twice on purpose, and maybe a couple of times by accident. By now, even when I'm not using an adblocker, YouTube still doesn't send me ads! And for some reason it's lately been sending me ads of YouTube itself. It's a very annoying 5-second video with just the logo of YouTube. They're really just telling me "I don't have anything to promote to you, so I'll just make you waste 5 secs just cause."
However, every single time I get on incognito, I get one ad or maybe two per video. wtf2 -
Having to work with my colleagues you doesn't believe on Dino's, satellites and big time believer in the flat earth (even hung up a map of it and stuff..) aaaaand.. him not understand a single proton-sized amount about IT but ignores my advice when he gets issues with his computer...
Ps. And yes, he has smelled alcohol as well, after a talk with the boss nothing has happened..
Pps.. FFS..NO not every thing is fake you stupid excuse of a human being with flattened peanut brain.. this is not the bloody Truman show (although good movie)
Ppps. Forgot the why.. why.. why?! Well.. isn't that the question with this guy.. (╯°□°)╯︵( .o.) -
Neko Image Farm.
Yes, you heard that right. My most recent project has been farming neko images onto a removable drive to sell in the near post-apocalyptic future. How I did this? I used this API called nekos.best for the images. And an auto clicker with a time interval of 6 seconds to save them (Yes, there is a 100% better way of doing this). So, every minute, 10 nekos are downloaded. Anything faster would destroy both my PC and my internet. This has been the single most useless project I have ever done...6 -
New AltRant release!
Release Notes:
- Transitioned to URLCache-based caching solution for attached images for much faster loading times
- Fixed many layout issues
- Finally added "more info" button in profile screen after 2 years of the feature being absent from the app
- Fixed many different crashes
- Added rant refreshing
- Added double tap to upvote on rants and comments
- Added creation date/time indicators on rants and comments

All users are required to test every aspect of the app.
I worked really hard on all of this to improve every single aspect of this app - from responsiveness to crashes and layout glitches, while also adding many features that were absent for a crazy amount of time! Please enjoy!
The last build will expire in a week from now.4 -
Product designer keeps on changing designs and managers approve it every single time. Totally frustrated to work. Why can't they think of scenarios based on design? Why should they allow me work on something guaranteeing that things won't be changed but change every single time.
I know product specs change, but too much of change frustrates the developer. Why does no body care for developer's mindset? -

My family has been very supportive, but mostly ignorant about my journey to software development, and tolerant of all of my fuck-ups along the way.
Yet they don't dare to even think to know what I am doing, because every time they asked me, no matter how well I explained, they never got any of the intricate parts of software development.
They know I make software. They know about the usual stress that comes from organizing projects, planning, maintaining infrastructure, but to them, it's as if I build buildings or I'm like a single-man conveyor that creates cars. It makes sense, and they will never understand how I do it, and they don't care. -
Manager complaining about why things were done in a 'different' (not the manager's) way.
If you bloody define your tickets better, this shouldn't have happened right!?
I wouldn't have to keep chasing you for details EVERY SINGLE F-ING TIME and I probably wouldn't have to redo and undo the same sh*t 4, 5 times2 -
When you can't use anything else other than php with no libraries and no frameworks/external packages and you have to reinvent the wheel every. single. time.2
-
There is no shame in being tired of reinventing the wheel for every single project, and using a framework will make you save a lot of time
-
Do you ever get those moments if you wonder if you're in the right field? I'm not talking imposter syndrome or anything, just plain, you can't do it.
I've been staring at this cpp function for over an hour now, and I still can't decide where is the right place to return it. This is like every single day while studying cpp, and it's seriously beginning to dishearten me. I know it's just one of those things that'll come with time, but it's been nearly two years now and I still can't get it...6 -
Perfectionism... I often refactor my code because I always see something that could be "done better" in my own work, which can slow me down if I'm not paying attention to my main task.
If I could stop time I would perfect my code all day, but that isn't realistic. 😂
Doesn't apply to dev work only, I've had to learn the art of not giving a shit about every single detail in many other disciplines. I just love getting things done really well. -
I attempted on national competition in an IT field, where there were tens of great projects (in other fields as well, like chemistry and so..). We had to push everything to their portal, so they can study it in advance. While pushing the docs, I found that there were SQL injections that allowed me to list everyone's rating and to download every single doc / additional sources.
Worst part is, that even after I reported vulnerability, they obviously didn't had time to fix it. -
Why the *fuck* does everyone think every single paragraph should be centered? Yeah, sure, components, icons, things that are presentation, sure most of the time you want that centered. But not *every* time. And, especially, never when the content is body copy text. That shit is hard to read, dammit! And yet I swear every single non-technical person and marketer I've known wants everything to be centered.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY -
Every, single, time, Windows, updates, and reboot...
I do not know what I did wrong with this Mint. It works perfectly until I reboot to Windows. So Windows update itself, I have to reboot and, after finishing all Windows boots, when I come back to Linux it does not work anymore.7 -
Not the worst documentation but the fact that I even have to google the simplest things every single time for the simplest problem. It’s time consuming, I get distracted and I feel dumb for not knowing how to read a Json :)4

Every ten years, a new social nexus, from Usenet to Reddit. Every day, a flame war. Every year, a great leader that wins flame wars, convinces people to follow them. The question is, what happens next? What do you preach to the gullible masses you won over?
Every single time it gets to politics, and then, to philosophy. Yet, there are no large strides in sight to world peace.
You've seen that meme where everything is just applied math. Well, math is applied philosophy, and philosophy is a product of misunderstanding the language.
In the end, the flame war you won never mattered. Archived threads, Wayback Machine, inactive Usenet mirrors. Acres upon acres of human thought, passionately expressed in computer text, roamed by no one but web crawlers. Give them three days, and they'll forget what you taught them.
WWI had shown us that we couldn't improve the masses with art and education. There is no vaccine against stupidity.
Life on Earth is hell. People are hell. Living among people is hell. If your life isn't hell, you're fortunate enough to be paying criminals that are stronger than other criminals around them, for protection.
Only the habit of systematically denying yourself pleasures your inner animal wants, plus a healthy dose of doubt, can make you human. Without restraint, a man is merely a greedy beast.4 -

I'm completly hating having to work with databases at college.
I have to use my department's Oracle server to which I must connect using a VPN that fails constantly and I must use SQL Developer that hangs every single time I want to do more than a single Select with it.
Maybe next year I finish this course unit.5 -
in this takehome challenge: let's see how much we can over-fucking-complicate every single thing. You want one selectors (that could just be one-liners) stacked on top of MORE one liner selectors? you got it!
you want sagas with fucking wierd ass syntax that can be replaced with i don't know, BUILT IN JAVASCRIPT??!!? you got it!
oh yeah, and with all this complexity, not a single line is written with TypeScript...
...i can't remember the last time i fucking had to write the characters 'propTypes' on a react project
what the hell is this, 2015?
it's absolutely mind exploding mind boggling how these orgs operate
double the work, double the time, double the cost
but what do i know? i'm just a 🤡 -
I had been working as an IT-consultant, for some year. Where I often had to educate about APM products, and a lot of them was over skype to outsourced IT departments in Asia.
I could use a hole dag teaching them about the product, and how to use specific part of them. Even though I asked them if they understood everything I have said. I never got any questions or had to immerse anything.
But almost every single time after, I got a ton of email asking about everything I said. Why just why, would you just sit, smile and nod. If you did not understand anything. So I had to use days, going over the same presentation over and over again, to each and every participant.
Now I am so happy I gave the company the finger, and became a full-time developer instead.1 -
Wednesdays. The day we get every single dev in a meeting room, and get everyone to explain what the fuck they are working on and what sort of issues they are having. Regardless of whether you'll ever see that site or not. Can't think of a bigger fucking waste of time.... ....meetings for the sake of meetings.... PISS OFF!!1
-
I dont get why companies shy away from proper source managment and devops it just sounds like managmentheaven:
Your developers would write down every single thing they did in nice and easily quantifiable units of work, with then they did it exactly to the minute, and with CI/CD patches could be released directly after being tested. And tests mean the devs even safe some QA time.2 -
Fucking windows 8 sucks cock. Every single fucking time i open a fucking tab open it says "Close your tabs to save memory" Every fucking ten minutes. IT PISSES ME OFF.5
-
Fuck testcomplete, fuck having to spend 40 minutes mapping out every element just to still hang 5 minutes every time you try to check the existence of one, fuck having a software who's sole purpose is to automate testing and save time take hours upon hours to do what a person can do in seconds, and fuck me for having to use this piece of shit to test every single change made to our site.
-
Really need to make it a habit to read every single piece of documentation and included read me file for a plugin and framework that I'm using even if they essentially say the exact same thing...wasted so much time just to find out I literally needed 1 line of js instead of all kinds of custom code -_-
-
Don't you have when a job offer expects people to know certain specific libraries?
And I'm not talking about frameworks or something essential for a certain field (Like Web3js for blockchain).
I once lost a job opportunity because I didn't have experience working with a specific UI toolkit for Vue so I took longer doing certain things because I needed to check the docs...
I mean, I understand companies want people with experience but I feel it's stupid to expect us to know every single library for every use case imaginable from the beginning. Most of the time, it's stuff we can learn very quickly7 -
The comments on a community site that was live for 6 months were not working. I looked at it and there was some dreadful code that threw an exception every single time, the previous devs solution was to wrap a try/catch & return 😨
-
sometimes I have random curiosities while I'm out and unable to test things. this is one of them (will comment with answer if I ever test it):
obviously writing aliases to make things you do frequently easy is a win. but what about typo aliases? stuff like sl, dc, she, etc. these aren't typo'ed often (hopefully) but are defined every single time you create a new terminal.
has this probably miniscule overhead actually been meaningfully measured?
question: how many aliases must be defined to cause a significant (say, 3sec?) slowdown when opening a new terminal? -
That lovely moment, when I have to spend an hour on mail delivery issue, only to find out the message was flagged as spam due to a faulty dns blacklist.
Though the way it got flagged is idiotic and funny at the same time, too.
The blacklist domain got parked, dunno why, and of course, all of the dns queries thus got redirected to a different dns server that just returned the A records of the dns park owners.
Guess what that causes when you use that blacklist? Every single email gets flagged, including that one of ours that I had to debug.
Fml, an hour of overtime for a stupid malfunctioning blacklist... -
Timesheets and Formations:
Every week, I'm supposed to fill out a form detailing how much time I've spent on which projects... I'm a research engineer assigned to a single project, so I'll always fill every day with 8 hours on the same project, because if it yields to less than 39h the website gets mad at you (even though I'm paid on days, not hours).
I get why it's here, I just don't get why it's my responsibility to declare which project's budgets should be liable for my salary.
As for the formations, they're always these extremely slow paced, completely obvious type of courses that borderline murder you with boredom. Yes, I know, corruption is bad, can I get back to work? -
When ever I start working on a project of some kind I usually find myself cursing the code, cursing myself and asking why I couldn't just go into something easier. But without fail, every single time I get the project working for the first time, I have a massive grin on my face and feel like a child at an amusement park for the first time. All the bad feelings I had towards the code dissolves and makes me excited to keep moving forward.1

I want to stop drinking coffee but everywhere i look there is always wallpapers and cups and shirts telling me that this is our fuel reminding me about it and i always wonder if it will be possible for me to stop drinking it. I want to stop drinking it because i just can't control myself and i drink it all day while i'm at work and at the time i arrive home my stomach hurts. Every night i think "tomorrow i wont be drinking a single cup" and then here i am ranting about it.1

Every single time that I realised how much of my expertise sounds like vaporware to people, mostly management and C-level.
Have been working on security for quite some time now but seeing that I can't really get through make me feel useless and not worth my weight in shit.1 -
For fuck sake. This is literally the 10th time today either Rider or Unity has had hiccups and just crashed. Every single time I had something which wasn't saved and had to be redone. 😡 I could be so much more productive without having to rewrite a lot of my code twice...1

On a Mac / when I close the lid Chrome Canary opens up 40+ tabs with the snap message. Anyone seen this? It's freaking annoying and it happens every single time.1

Hey, I'm looking for a tool to emulate multiple, maybe around 100 browser clients at the same time, having open the same page at the same time. Every single instance would need a separate IP (VPN/proxy). It should also be sort of ressource friendly(not 100chrome windows/tabs)
Anyone got suggestions on a tool I could use? thanks6 -
partially tech
Is it just me or every single time* I call to some support after first 30 minutes I really want to ask question "can I talk with someone competent?". And no disrespect to these guys, many people call in with simple stuff, but damn, I try to solve stuff on my own and call in only when I need someone who actually can get somewhat technical and have some knowledge about the product/service/smh. Infuriating.
* one hosting provider proven to be exception. -
My shell was taking a really long time to start and I spent hours disabling every single plugin and trying to start it up without it to find out which one was the culprit.
Turns out it wasn't any of my plugins, it was NVM.

testing a form and having to fill in the info every single time I change the code - gross
Does anyone know of a way to refresh a form (ctrl+F5 in chrome) while keeping the data?6 -
There's time crunch already, we need to finish this feature, this stupid fucking feature, quickly.
We design, and then code and obviously because of Murphy's law, our code doesn't work. Why, you ask. Because some shithead was modifying arguments behind the scenes and it took us fuckload of time to reach this conclusion.
Out of frustration, I made this.
https://github.com/iostreamer-X/...
It's a tiny library which helps you log every single change done to your object.
But seriously, fuck that shithead who modifies things without a care in the world! -
I need nextjs tips
Im coding in nextjs for the first time because the framework i need to use only supports nextjs/vite/react. I have no idea how this framework works and im literally googling for almost every single bit. Also using chatgpt as copilot. Heck im googling even how to do routing here. The code is probably gonna be total shit.
Anyone can give me some tips in nextjs on how to keep the code clean? How is a project supposed to be structured?5 -
If anyone has followed the Android course by google, is it only me or “lesson 7: recycler view”

It was my first time doing an NLP task / implementing a RNN and I was using the torchtext library to load and do sentiment analysis on the IMDB dataset. I was able to use collate_fn and batch_sampler and create a DataLoader but it gets exhausted after a single epoch. I’m not sure if this is the expected behavior, if it is then do I need to initialize a new DataLoader for every epoch? If not is something wrong with my implementation, please provide me the correct way to implement the same.
PS. I was following the official changelog() of torchtext from github
You can find my implementation here

HELP: yesterday I discovered why my Gradle build takes so fucking long every time, but I still don't know how to fix it. for some reason, it sees the node_modules folder as NEVER "up-to-date", and so every single time I run 'gradle war_exploded' it copies the entire node_modules folder into the war, even of nothing has changed. any ideas?2
