We will no longer be accepting contracts which have an internet explorer or edge support requirement.
All of the front end devs are going hysterical and celebrating 😂 🎉🎉17 -
*computer fell, broken in pieces*
Me calling [Microsoft] tech support: hey can you check my warranty on this computer, I think I broke it?
Tech support: yes sir but we must first go through the troubleshooting steps,
Me: no, no I just-
Tech support: have you tried pressing F8 sir?
Me: umm… no, look I'm just -

Tech support: sir please what happened when you pressed F8?
Me: it's broken, now if you could just check my warranty -
Tech support: sir I'm sorry sir I think you did it wrong. Please press F8

Every single time I visit my family during holidays they expect one to fix their computer/smartphone/printer/whateverFuckingShittyIOT-Device... Just printed them postcards this time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also: Hello devRant! Just been reading here for a week and every single day was full of gold - Thanks :)12 -
*On a programming support forum*
Guy: My compiler keeps throwing null pointer exception at line 128.
Me: Ok. Can you post your code real quick so I could figure out what is null at line 128?
Guy: No I'm not going to show my code to someone on the internet. What if you want to steal my code?
My mind: "Dude wtf why would I steal someone's code on a support forum?"
Me: *Use the next 15 minutes explaining that showing the code is necessary so that others can actually help him, and that no one on a support forum is going to steal his code.*
Guy: "You know what I'm more convinced that you want to copy my code. I might as well just try to fix this on my own."
What?14 -
1. Purchased GTA San Andreas from Google Play
2. Always got a download failure at 85% downloaded.
3. Contacted Google support, got asked how my day was going
4. Had no idea how to answer that11 -
There are only two reasons you should use Windows:
1. You are developing for Windows.
2. You cannot live without a game which still has no Linux support.
However, the right thing to do is refuse all contracts on Windows development and quit playing games that have no Linux port.21 -
First rant.
Managing an app in Canada, came back home to Thailand to visit my parents.
No deployments while you're gone, just bug fixes, boss said.
Landed at 3am, "hey I know we only support desktop but we got new customers only on iPad, make it responsive in a day and deploy." Wtf.
Haven't even seen my parents. In Starbucks.15 -
The company I work for...
Has:
1. No CI/CD
2. SVN instead of GIT
3. Outsourcing to India (oof)
4. No Automated Testing
5. Uses Bugnet (ancient, outdated)
6. No clearly defined code standards
7. No real documentation on the code
8. Rubbish code
9. No desire to reduce technical debt
10. Poorly maintained DB
11. Poor outdated equipment
12. A useless PM
13. Still priotizes IE support (??)
On a scale of 1 to 10 how fucked is this company and anything they develop?41 -
That moment at work when we've had no calls for an hour and suddenly the phone goes off
*TRINGGGGGGGG*
*suddenly you have a few Linux support engineers with a mini heart attack*
😅7 -
Dear mobile apps devs,
No one's gonna hate you if you do not provide a multilingual support. Just, please, stop using Google Translate and force the app's language to the phone system's. It's just dumb
Sincerely,
A non native english speaker11 -
Devs: We need access to PROD DB in order to provide support you're asking us for.
Mgmt: No, we cannot trust you with PROD DB accesses. That DB contains live data and is too sensitive for you to fuck things up
Mgmt: We'll only grant PROD DB access to DBAs and app support guys
Mgmt: <hire newbies to app support>
App_supp: `update USER set invoice_directory = 54376; commit;`

I have nothing left to say....7 -
First day on the phone as a support guy!
Before the first call came in I thought like 'please no email related issues as that's the one thing I suck at!'
Fair enough, first call:
Me: hello, how can I help you?
Customer: well, we've got this email problem...
Me thinking: MOTHERFUCKING FUCKING FUCK WHY ME 😭
Me: what seems to be the problem?
Damn, really?!9 -
Talking to Best Buy customer support live chat trying to price match using friend’s laptop.
Typed in “<b>Hello</b>”
Oh cool.. it comes out as bold. Let’s get a scary as fuck screamer gif and img src it.
Me: *Posts picture*
Me: *Waits a few seconds*
Me: “Did you see that picture?”
Support: “No. Sir, could you tell me the item you want to price match?”
Me: “Okay hold on.”
Typed in “<script type=‘text/javascript’>window.alert(‘OOGA BOOGA BITCH’);</script>”
Me: “Did you see that?”
Friend: “Dude stop.”
I push my friend away since I’m on his Best Buy account.
Me: “Did you see a pop up?”
Support: “No.”
Me: “Okay okay hold on.”
You have left the chat.10 -
Spend half the day setting up a dedicated server at work (including getting all the hardware together) and installing CentOS and tweaking around.
For a client? Oh no, there just literally wasn't anything else to do and I didn't want to sit around doing nothing or working on shell scripts AGAIN. (working in support (+ linux server management) and due to the holidays hardly any support requests come in)
*Hmmm, lets install nginx for fun*
"yum install ngi..."
*wait, let's compile from source and make it more fun!*
So yeah, that was my day, I guess.5 -
Hello, I just want to let you know I'm working on a 15 year old product and it is currently in production.
It uses Angular.js and one of the earliest versions of React.js. I cannot use ES6, we don't have Babel, no JSX syntax, no CSS preprocessor. No webpack.
I must support browser since IE6 with an ES3 syntax. (luckily I got some some polyfills for an ES5 syntax)
When I build a component I have to call React.createClass and React.createElement.
The render() function is basically a nested pile of React.createElement.
There is no documentation for this product, no tests, no anything.
I had to reverse engineer it in order to understand how it works.
The code base uses mixed programming styles and naming conventions, plus thousands of little js files.
Oh and obviously no hot reload, every time I make a change I have to restart everything.
Please, send help.
I'm in danger.
Sincerely,
An underpaid developer
....
I'm not crying, you are crying...19 -
Why the fuck would anyone still want to support IE? It's 2018 for fuck sake! Sure, there's no reason a website shouldn't work on IE, but do I really need to fuck it up just because something doesn't properly align in IE?
Fuck IE! Why can't we just let it die?11 -
Microsoft: We're brings new updates to Edge....
Me: Oh nice, was about time.
**Reads changelog**
"Edge now has support for Internet Explorer"
"No, really, you can now run IE in Edge."
Me: Oh for Fuck Sake!15 -
No, my family did not support me.
They complained about everything.
From how "Python was demonic" to how "Working with computer wont save you from the coming tribulation"
Growing up in a religious cult sucks.10 -
Manager: We really need to save money with this project, so nobody call tech support for anything.
Me: There's this open-source solution that would work great.
Manager: Bad idea! There's no tech support number to call.
Me: ...4 -
Friend brings over a Windows 8 all in one laptop.
Friend: Can you fix my laptop
Me: I'm a programmer
Friend: I thought you worked with computers.
Me: I do... but I'm not tech support
Friend: Please?
Me: (reluctantly) Fine.
*many hours later after attempting to get the PC to boot from a USB. WHY DOES THIS PC NOT HAVE A KEY TO ENTER THE GOD DAMNED BOOT MENU AND HAS NO BOOT ORDER SELECTION?????!*
Friend: Have you fixed it?
Me: No
Friend: You suck at computers
Me: ....
Never spoke to him again.8 -
All web developers should support up to IE9 without any problems.
Why? Because in Korea, it is normal.
Every person uses that damn Win7, which has either IE9 or IE10. Without IE support, no one will browse your webpage.
Now you would ask us, why don't you use other modern browsers?
We would then ask you, why would you install a new browser that is
1. Buggy
2. Heavy
3. Takes up ram
4. Has so many features
when you have an awesome minimalistic browser that is preinstalled, and works in all Windows? No thanks.
So, if you put a message saying you will soon drop support of IE, it means that you won't target Korea. Just after the support drop, there won't be traffic to your web site.
So what is the point of this rant?
1. We love IE. Lol
2. IE is lightweight, minimalistic, and the fastest browser in the world.
3. All websites should NOT drop support for IE.
4. We don't care whether web devs will have a hard time. We just think websites are built with Wix and Wordpress, and they work in IE, meaning, IE support is the number one priority.
5. If you ever start a business in Korea, and has a website, make sure to hire an senior Korean web dev who has worked with IE for a long time.
6. Here is the tl;dr
Hate us. Period.25 -
"Windows can't update because you don't have enough disk space"
HOW ABOUT YOU STOP FUCKING POPPING UP A GIANT UNFUCKOFFABLE OVERLAY IN THE MIDDLE OF MY VIDYA GAMES FOR THE 10000th TIME?
I fucking know I have no disk space, if you complain one more fucking time, I'll make disk space -- by deleting you.
(I'm joking, linux/mac game support is so fucking trash)17 -
Support: A customer complained about a nasty bug.
Senior Dev: There are no bugs in our software, just challenges that need to be solved.2 -
Really pissed me off when I tell someone that I am teaching myself how to code and they're like.. "Don't you have to go to school for that?"
YES.. I wish I could go to school but I am broke, have no family support, and got no credits for a loan. But at least I am seeking out other resources! The mentality of some people I swear!!11 -
Internal support article to get access to a tool:
"To get access click 'NO' in the 'was this article helpful section' and open a support ticket, making sure to mention the tool you are looking to get access to"
What fucking fresh hell is this? Why not have the article, contain the fucking link to open the ticket.
You have intentionally put up a useless article, in order to hack your way around this stupid system.2 -
Around 27 hours at new customer location.
They had a server failure due to incompetence.
They had fired their own IT guy and called us 6 months later because the server stopped responding.
First diagnostic. 2 drives are dead in a raid 5 with one hot spare. Raid controller then proved to be broken once the disks was replaced.
Waiting for new raid controller and installing.
Backup non existing, no one changed dat tape during the 6 months without IT. The tape was just a transparent plastic band, no media left.
Raid config is stored in static ram on controller, no backup!
Several hours in tech support to find out how to rebuild raid config from existing disks.
Proves to be impossible to rebuild raid set due to some checksum failures.
More hours with support to enable some diagnostic read only mode to mirror low level content to external drive.
Then many more hours to copy parts of the tree until it gets an error, restart after that and go on.
In the end we got around 70% back.
During this time I manage to be in contact with the raid manufacturers all support centers, one in europe, one in the us and one in Taiwan, switching each time one if them closed for the night.
The customer later declined a steady support contract due to us being to expensive ;)
Some just don’t want to learn.6 -
I switched to Comic Sans for any internal communication.
Those in delivery/support/sales/HR/emotional crap/professional buzzworders/etc no longer take me seriously and therefore I no longer waste my time with their BS.
If not an improvement in the more materialistic side of the career itself, certainly an improvement in the quality of life.3 -

Boss: We need health data for this iOS app.
Me: Cool, so we'll use apples HealthKit.
Boss: No that requires the user agrees to it.
Me: ... well yeah ... its private data.
Boss: No we need it to work regardless. If the user says no to HealthKit, just give them textfields for all the metrics HealthKit has and they can enter manually.
Me: .... but ... eh ....
Boss: and we'll partner with some companies and support their devices.
Me: ... see, the thing is ...
Boss: We also need to store it locally and then sync it to the cloud app. What do you think?
Me: ... ... ... no2 -
Apple you drove of delusional suckers! When will your retarded fashion devices finally support WEBP?!
A gallery page with images, and thanks to WEBP, it's 408 kB. Because Google made WEBP and handed out a well documented CLI FOSS compression tool that even can convert the source PNGs to lossy WEBP with bloody transparency. Well done, Google!
Except that Apple's shitty management can't take it that Google actually made something nice, so no WEBP. Instead, JPEG-2000 that enjoys nearly no fucking tool support. The free tools that even can deal with that mostly don't support transparency, and the encoder sucks donkeys so that JPEG still fucks JPEG-2000 big time.
So it's JPEG with matching background for iOS. Fine, but since JPEG's blocky artifacts are much more visible, the compression can't be that high, and it's 769 kB. That's 88% more image data for Shittari than for non-retarded browsers and even Edge! EDGE!!
Oh and if the user changes light/dark system mode according to surrounding light conditions, guess what happens? Yep, since JPEG doesn't support transparency, now it's different JPEGs with dark background via the media query in the "picture" element, and it's another 754 kB download. Bloody 1523 kB instead of 408 kB, that's a factor of 3.7!
Fuck your ass Crapple, with an electric eel!19 -
Client sends me support email concerning the CMS.
There's not enough details to go on, esp. browser info, so I ask her to fill out a support ticket.
She does, but doesn't enter any browser info, AND mistypes her email address so I have to correct it to reply to the right email.
I send her to whatbrowseramiusing.co and ask her to send the info to our support email address.
She emails support directly with these words: "I am using Google bowser".
I reply: click "Send to my designer" on whatbrowseramiusing.co and I give her exact steps to fill out the three form fields
She replies: "There is no 'Send to my designer', I only get the option to buy the domain."
I'm like "Whut?!" Did you mistype the URL? Why don't you click the link in the email? (Paraphrase)
This time I get an official email from whatbrowseramiusing.co, telling me that the client is using Safari 5.0.5. Which is five years old.
At that point I replied and said we really can't support this older browser, and included a link to the Firefox download page.7 -

I got through the first stage for a summer internship at Amazon. They send me a link to a technical test with a 7 day deadline to complete.
The link brings me to a 404 page. Fuck.
I contact customer support, reach out to Amazon directly, don't get any response whatsoever. The week has passed and the link is still dead and I s received no word from them.
FML. And fuck Amazon for teasing me like this and for having such shitty technical support.9 -
Me: *reading work order* Customer states Mac does not have sound
*Me turns on Mac, it makes the signature "BONNNNG" sound*
Me: Uh huh...
Coworker: Rule No. 1 of tech support: The users always lie
Me: True, but still! How do you miss the start up Mac sound?!3 -
Great... Just spent so much time on unfucking that HP turd that I don't have the energy anymore to rant about the many certified brainfarts that I saw in there - such as gluing the bezel onto the LCD, placement of ribbon cables etc. Thanks HP -.-
And no I'm not gonna design and mass-produce an alternative without any flaws, just to support my own criticism towards certain design choices.1 -
So, boss asks for support on sunday, I say sure, no problem. I arrive, get to my station and suddenly my nose, eyes and throat become itchy. The goddamn building's been fumigated. Fucking assholes. I'm going back home dizzy and nauseous.4

Waking up at 5 fucking AM to fly my ass all the way across the country to Vegas on a fucking Saturday. For vacation you may ask? NO! FOR WORK! Just so I can sit in a conference room all fucking week and work there instead.
Oh no... I’m not attending the conference either. I have to provide support for the fucking ticketing systems!3 -
PM: Oh, i got news about project xyz.
Me: Oh good, are we finally dropping support for that shity legacy system?
PM: No you gotta make a copy of it and convert all the currency symbols and add a bunch of new features, we selling it to a new client.2 -
After developing a chrome extension, cli tool and jsRant I think I should stop developing on devRant.
When @dfox changes the api I am going to have quite a bit of tasks on my hands :p2 -
Microsoft admits they were hacked. Explains how it worked and what happened. No big deal. companies get hacked. That's life.
Indirectly admits that all of their customer support agents have access to your inbox.
Cool. Deleting my Outlook email. Thanks guys.9 -
I love my notebook but still...
Fuck you to the person at Lenovo who thought that it would be a great idea to support 16gb of ram and then put 4gb internal ram into it.
I can add an 8gb stick to it, totalling at 12gb. There are no 12gb sticks (as far I am aware of) so yeah, fuck 16gb "supported" by the mainboard, 12 is the maximum.5 -
Finally fixed a major bug.....
FUCK YOU C# AND YOUR FUCKING CASE SENSITIVE BULLSHIT.
DAYS
THAT TOOK FUCKING DAYS AND AT NO POINT DUD VISUAL STUDIO BOTHER TO MENTION THAT FUCKING ERROR.
1 CHARACTER, ON ONE LINE, EFFECTIVELY BROKE THOUSANDS OF LINES OF CODE
fuck this, I quit. See you next time you contact the Microsoft live support chat!13 -
Just read an article that really grinds my gears. Its about coding in other languages. Not programming languages, but literally other languages.
Btw I learned to code in Spanish and I'm not against coding in programming languages using variable names in other languages.
That's fine.
What pissed me off was that the author claimed that we should be able to code Fucking JavaScript in SWAHILI or other languages available. What kind of PC bullshit is that!
Coding is barely fucking readable and now we have to make standards for Multilanguage support. Just learn the less than 60 reserved words you lazy fuck and code with them! I leaned to code with shitty tutorials in Spanish and theres no 1000x resources out there and this author claims you can't code unless you know english.
Granted. It's easier but wtf not just learn it. When I coded in Java in Spanish, I didn't know wtf a Class was or ags meant. So what. I memorized that shit. How? By coding!
Why bring this PC shit to programming? The author thinks there are few programmers bc we don't support fucking SWAHILI in JavaScript. Fuck no!
Now if you want to support this initiative. Think of this,
...legacy code
...in 32+ languages.
Have fun debugging this thing.14 -
I just got e-mail:
"Sunsetting Mercurial support in Bitbucket
After much consideration, we've decided to remove Mercurial support bla bla bla crocodile tears bla bla..."
So basically, Bitbucket started out as a Mercurial repository hosting platform. After GitHub's rise in popularity, they decided "hey, everyone's welcome, both Hg and Git!" Then it became Git and "okay Hg too, but shhh don't tell anyone". Now they FINALLY completed running it into the ground: "Only 1% of repositories are Mercurial" - yeah no shit sherlock, after actively hiding the fact you support it, people don't find out you support it! Surprised Pikachu! Oh congrats, Atlassian. You're so smart.
Mercurial support was the sole reason I had repositories there. I mean, for Git we already have GitHub, GitLab and others. So what's their unique selling point again? What's that, the sound of crickets? Thought so.
So after that, hopefully they change the name to "Gitbucket". Or preferably "Bitfuckit".7 -
Me: I need an SSL certificate.
Support: No problem. Just fire up your command line and generate one via OpenSSL.
Me: I'm on Windows.
Support: Ok, so what you do is code a Linux command line from scratch that will run in Powershell. Next, compile OpenSSL from your favorite of 60,000 versions available. Now, just fire it up and you're all set.
Me: Goodbye everything I've ever enjoyed doing in my free time.16 -
If you think changing "white/blacklist" to "allow/denylist" will help inclusivity you're a fucking racist moron who is actively hurting public perception of POCs and minorities.
You are the direct reason people scoff at the idea of modern feminism and racial equality. You've made the entire topic a fucking joke and reduced it to bite-sized, pseudo-progressive drivel that no sane person ever wants to support.46 -
Been a while but I'm back with fresh rants.
If you look in my history you will see support wanted us devs to start paying for writing bugs. Now the release presentation has passed but we're still in crunch time because we can't put clients onto the new version yet. And in the meantime our coffee machine broke. So support has started to manually pour coffee, which was actual real nice of them.
Now yesterday I'm in a hurry and the coffee is out so I decide to pour a quick cup for myself with the leftover grounds. When I'm back at my desk I get a call asking if I just made coffee. I'm like yeah something wrong? Proceed to get chewed out for being selfish and that they see how it is with me, then get hung up on before I can even explain.
So yeah not only is my company too cheap to get a new machine, the lack of one causes drama.
Today however our network guy, who was present when my colleagues asked what was with the weird phone call, brought in his own machine and let me have coffee from it. Meanwhile suport can keep their crappy manual pouring. And I don't need to go into their office anymore.3 -
Fucking Amazon rant again...
TLDR: Amazon specializes in “the last mile”. They are repeatedly allowing a 3rd party shipper (Purolator) destroy their main value proposition. Thoughts at the end.
Me on the phone with their support...
Me: so it says my package was attempted to be delivered today. I did not get a call or notification or anything and I have been working from home all day to wait for the package.
Support: -Sigh- yes, I can see it was Purolator we have been having trouble with them lately.
Me: ok, so are you able to see what happened?
Support: let me put you on hold.
.......
Support: So they said they will not call for a delivery, did they use your building buzzer?
Me: Nope, just stood outside the building and then left I guess.
Support: -sigh- Well you can pick it up at their depot. Let me get you the address.
Me: The one by the airport?
Support: Yes it looks like it is about an hour away from where you are. And they are only open during work hours.
Me: So, after working from home to get this package you advice is to take 3 hours off work and go there to pick it up?
Support: Well, we can refund it? If thats what you want.
Me: No, I would like the package I ordered please.
Support: There is nothing I can do sir.
Me: So before I hang up let me see if I have it straight. When I order a package from Amazon, do I have an option of who ships it?
Support: No, I’m sorry but that is decided on our end.
Me: And I have had this problem before with this shipping agent. So, your telling me that when I ship things to me with Amazon that I have no control of wether I even get the package? Your telling me it is literally a coin toss as to wether or not I ever get my package?
Support: yes sir, I’m sorry but that is all I can do.
Me: So you realize that, for example, if I went to my local grocery store and it was a coin toss that I could take my groceries home (even after I paid for them) then I will always go to another store....
Support: yes, I know. There is nothing I can do.
Me: So from now on I have to order items, wait for them to be shipped, check the shipper and then cancel the order of it is them?
Support: -sigh- you cannot cancel an order after it has shipped...
Me: wow. Sure is great being a prime and audible member. I get fast delivery of 50% of my packages and no delivery at all of the other 50%. Sorry for the sarcasm...
Support: I’m sorry I can’t help more.
Me: So just to clarify. I can expect NOT to get the package I ordered?
Support: sorry
Me: have a nice day.
————
Here are my thoughts as a student of business...
Amazon specializes in “the last mile” (in their delivery service anyway) and when they deliver the package they also deliver on that value proposition.
However, now it seems that one of their shipping providers is failing at getting packages that last mile, which is resulting and destroying the idea of their value proposition in a customers eyes. (Affecting more than me as the rep said)
Now, instead of believing that Amazon will get things to me, saving me that last mile trip to the store etc., I firmly believe that it is a toss up as to wether I will ever receive my package (based on carrier)
I know that if I was in Amazon’s position (a carrier hurting my overall value proposition with consistently unacceptable service) that I would come down on them with a force they have never seen or drop them entirely.
But of course, every company reaches a point where they have such market share and sway that they take their eye off the ball when it comes to their value proposition to customers.16 -
Getting corporate VPN access:
PM: Here's the program to get in, it should work.
Me: Won't install.
PM: sorry old version, here is the new one.
Me: Can't get in
PM: create a ticket
Support: Not sure, just try again
Me: Still won't work
Support: We forgot to set some attributes in your account, should work now.
Me: Nope.
Support: We are investigating.
*two weeks later*
Support: should work now.
Me: No it doesn't you stupid f***tards.
*gives up all hope*3 -
Had no internet for hours.
Called the support.
"We will fix it!" they said and they actually did. So maybe there are competent people working there as well???
No. Of course not.
Two hours later I receive a call from them. "It was not our fault. There was an update so we had to plug the cables back into the right ports."
Software update

Got a ticket today to redo the companies html e-mail signature.
Requirements: Support for Outlook 2007-2016.
Me never done one before, thinking: "Regular Html and a bit of CSS, no biggie, can't be that hard"
Also me: "Okay let's see which CSS features are supported in Outlook 2007"
Quick google search to find out that there is nearly no support for anything and that Outlook uses Word as render engine.
Someone seriously thought using motherfucking Word to render Html & CSS is a good idea? FML9 -
I had a delivery deadline on the same day when an urgent support request came in. My boss was a stupid sucker who was afraid of taking responsibility, and that's a vice I absolutely hate with bosses.
We had quite a heated argument where he just wanted me to give priority to both things, which I declined because I had no idea how much time the support research would take me.
Finally, he decided that I should work on the support item immediately, but only for up to one hour. He was totally surprised when I accepted that without further argument. I told him that all I had wanted from him had been a priority decision, and that was one.
Felt like explaining to my boss what his fucking job was.4 -
Godammit Homebrew.
It's bad enough having to develop C on a Mac, now Homebrew is refusing to let me install a package that needs root privilege. Support simply says "no package needs root privileges" and "run as an admin". BITCH, THIS PACKAGE NEEDS IT.
So now I'm downloading homebrew source just to add a "--fuckingdoit" flag that skips their shitty "no sudo" rule.
Tooling should save me time, not WASTE it.1 -
- Back in October 2019 -
- Me: Hey, these two servers are having weird problems. Several services we use stop functioning every 7-10 days. I can temporarily fix them by taking them off the domain and putting them back on, but I don’t know why they’re happening or what further damage this workaround causes.
- Boss: Thats not good. Well. Keep doing the fix when it’s needed.
- Me: We should really reach out to someone at Microsoft through our support plan. I have no idea how to fix any of this and it’s making our Hyper-V environment very unstable.
- Boss: K. Let’s not worry about that now, let’s just keep working around it.
- In January 2020 -
- Me: Hey boss. More and more errors are generating from these servers. I’ve created a log of everything Ive found to hand off to a support agent. We really need to.
- Boss: Okay. Let’s talk to our internal team that uses Hyper-V and see what they did since they don’t have any problems.
- Me: Its not Hyper-V specific. It’s stemming from AD and authentication. It causes problems even without Hyper-V installed, so I don’t think it will help.
- Boss: K. Let’s just do what we can with what we got.
- Today, May 2020 -
- Me: Hey. The servers no longer work at all, and the workaround has no effect anymore. I’m completely stalled on my project now and have nothing to do.
- Boss: What?? What happened to them?
- Me: *Sends 17 page PDF file documenting all found issues, errors, warnings, and weird anomalies in both servers, as well as troubleshooting steps I’ve already performed*
- Boss: None of this makes any sense. I need you to start troubleshooting right away.
- Me: But... I can’t... *Sends screenshots of errors having no search results on the web, screenshots of Microsoft Support Techs on forums telling me we need to open tickets with Microsoft directly, other reasons why I’m completely blocked*
- Boss: Keep trying to figure it out. We need this resolved as soon as possible and we can’t let it happen again in the future.
Now I’m completely alone in our office, bitterly staring at the servers, trying to force an epiphany on how to fix these dumb boxes.5 -
I get frustrated when I get reports from the support team/clients
"[insert application name here] is not working"
thats all no information on which module or segment ... 😭😭
then I just waste time getting all the information ...2 -
Hmm internet connection is down. Check isp status page...no issues. Wait 50mins on phone to get to support, where they tell me there is a known issue, reported 4 hours ago. After call check isp status page...no issues
Is AWS selling status pages as a service now?5 -
In order to reduce support costs, manager instructed his team to remove all logging/reporting of errors in the company’s CRM application.
Team’s support tickets went down 80%, manager received an award for his efforts, but mysteriously, DBA/support workload increased, bad/missing data,
increased support tickets in other areas of the business (shipping, etc. that relied on correct data from the CRM) and other side-affectual behavior.
Even after pointing this out this correlation, showing before/after code, no one believed the two were related and I was accused of not being a ‘team player’.
“You and the other teams need to learn from his example!”. As ‘punishment’ was I was moved to the team managing the CRM application.1 -
The god damned education system in my country is completely fucked up. They teach TurboC++ in the name of programming, something that is no use in this world. This 80s ide is no use but it's compulsory to use turbo. Microsoft has fuckin removed support for 16 bit but they the syllabus won't change. I sent the concerned authorities an email about this but radio silence. This is too damn irritating.10

Fucking lazy customer support that files bugs with "<some functionality> is not working" with no steps to reproduce or any other description of the issue, deserve to die in the same hell as it is figuring out the rest of the details.

I cant express how outraged this makes me feel.
Me to my PM months ago (when I started) "we should upgrade the versions of node and angular when I do the tests (because yes, no tests at all)
Boss:"why? No no"
Our version of node 0.10.40 has no support any longer. But hey, I'm leaving that role :-) good luck new guy if new guy comes....2 -
"Hey boss, could you look over this reply to this support case before I send it? I just want to clarify a couple of things first."
"I haven't got the time to look over support case replies - you need to be proactive in deciding what's right, and then just sending them on."
"Ok, no worries."
5 minutes later...
"What the hell have you written on this support case? This isn't correct at all. Now they're going to be really confused. You've completely contradicted what I told them yesterday on the phone."2 -
When management says we don't want open source...because there is no support, and we can't afford Enterprise licence because it eats away the profit, and shit needs to be done in lightening fast way...FUCK!!!1

Spent hours trying to figure out why API calls to a third party service weren't working.
Hit up their support and find out the following:
"Hi there, we can only take true and false as strings."
"Uhmm... Does it take anything apart from true or false?"
"No, but they must be sent in as strings"
"Any reason why you don't take booleans if it's just true or false?"
*crickets chirping*

TL;DR: Why does that online shop NOT support paypal?
I'm a LITTLE pissed.
I wanted to buy some stuff online (since my gf birthday comes closer and I have no city, no car nearby to go shopping) - and this website doesn't support paypal. You know why? Because they had to high fees.
Why on earth don't they do it like any other online shop?! - the user can pay with paypal for a little more % or €.
I don't have an actual credit card but the thing you can get <18yo. Paypal works with it but I can't use any other payment option.13 -
In the process of moving our web store to Shopify (yuck!) and we are first creating 150000 fake orders through the API so that as we import our real orders, the numbers match.
I'm disturbed by the fact there is no better way to achieve this and after speaking with support they said our best bet would be asking about it on the forums.1 -
So, company I work at, is on desperate need of PHP developers, who can work in WordPress and Magneto. Company announced vacancy.
Only 20 CVs were dropped 4 days before from today. So company called all of them for interview and I was one of the interviewer. Most of applicants told me that they know Laravel but not WordPress.
I was like fine. Maybe they can work on WordPress too. But I was wrong. Here are some funny interviews:
Me: how many types of inheritance does PHP support?
Applicant 1: 7. Single, multiple, etc..
Me: Do you know difference between interface and abstract class?
Applicant 2: (he just said some gibberish)
Me: why do u prefer Laravel to WordPress?
Applicant 3: because by default Laravel support payment gateway, so we can create e commerce application faster. WordPress doesn't support payment gateway.
Me: how many WordPress site you have worked on?
Applicant 4: I have 4 themes in WordPress.org
Me: Do you create all of them by yourself?
Applicant 4: Yes
Me: Do u know difference between require and include?
Applicant 4: No
Me: Do u know difference between query_posts and WP_Query?
Applicant 4: No
Me: (facepalm)6 -
Client: I need the push notification to have purple edges with blue background.
Me: I'm sorry. Apple does not have a support for such customization. What we can do is modify title, description and also add an overview image.
Client: No, you can make it purple edges with blue background. I saw it on dribble!
Me: *Logs out*.9 -
Just overheard somebody discussing about adding in IE8 support for the website. Please no... Just don't.3

I once had to deal with GoDaddy customer support telling me their servers only support putty for SSH.
Well, fuck you! I use Linux and I SSH with a single command in terminal, no doubt putty is great but get your senses straight that putty is not the only way to SSH when you are being customer support for a tech company, don't just fucking recite a phrase list. Besides, they should understand Windows with putty is not the only way to SSH into servers, juicessh via Android, openssh via Linux, etc...
*btw, before you all rant about me buying from GoDaddy, I was lead dev for a startup few years back and they had already bought it from GoDaddy. Ofcourse they also provide free offers along with an order, which often includes email addresses, annoying support, gut-wrenching quality of service access...1 -
Who else has to hear the nagging from family members, significant others, friends etc... when you say your planning to get another laptop, desktop, or even a new monitor?
I swear I hear the nagging every week almost.6 -
Apparently Chrome will no longer support installing add-ons outside of the official store by the end of this year. Not even in dev mode...8

I am forced to use IDE and Text Editor against my will.
I hate eclipse, but what to do, Salesforce support that IDE only, although VSCode has one plugin for that, but it's not the best,
Why I hate Eclipse you ask?
1. Null pointers
2. No Emmet
3. No Autcomplete
4. Runs like shit on Windows 10 (See my last rant for windows 10)
5. no pretty print extensions/plugins for isml
For my personal projects I am forced to work on Sublime because again VSCode decided to drop
1. Syntax Highlighting
2. Autocomplete
for PHP
(Fuck you for hating php)11 -
Seriously? Microsoft does not support ed25519 SSH keys in neither Azure DevOps nor the actual Azure Virtual Machines? Like seriously? No there has to be a joke. There just ain't no way
It has been in OpenSSH since 2013.
2013.
We're in 2023, if you've forgotten.
10 years ago, OpenSSH implemented this standard.
Did you know what they tell you when you enter your valid Ed25519 SSH key into their system?
Did you know they tell you that "Your SSH key is invalid"?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN INVALID???!?! IT WORKS EVERYWHERE ELSE JUST FINE!!! YOU'RE THE ONE THAT HAS NO FUCKING BRAINS!!!
Composure.
I am calm, I am calm.
I have always. Been. CALM!
There is no one more calm than me....
I guess RSA it is then.
A second SSH key, just for Microsoft.5 -
Nothing ticks me off faster than non working websites or apps of big companies.
For example how can it be that the Lufthansa app has no offline support for ticket stuff and loads like all their requests worldwide would be handled by one raspberry pi A...

A added bonus of writing in UIKit and in Swift is the automatic macOS support. Yes, this is the devRant rewrite working on macOS, fully featured. And while this still requires some work and some fixes involving window resizing and how to handle image resizing, this is surprisingly usable for almost no dedicated macOS code!
(This post was sent using the AltRant client on macOS)11 -
Let's set your personal development goals for the quarter
Remember, they have to be free, align entirely with what the company is already doing and require no support from management.
Why do they even bother pretending to care about development?2 -
I've learned over the years that there's no such thing as a Proof of Concept app. You might as well call them beta versions since some salesperson or manager will see it and immediately tell clients about it who will buy it and then you have to support and expand it.
-
My coleague's story
- before leaving after long day at the office final look at support cases (after official support hours)
- sev1 ticket logged an hour ago, noone called us (although should have; after support hours)
- angry manager calls and demands to get in touch with the client immediately (we're already after support hours, FTS should pick the case, not us)
- we reach out. Customer has business-impacting case
- after initial info gathering: some cert got expired, they got a new one and placed it in the app's directory. The app still does not work
- the first question we ask: "are you sure you have placed it in the right directory?"
- "yes, we are sure. No problems there" - answers a voice with indian accent
- noone finds the root cause for hours.
- It's already 1am
- someone from client's specialists comes up with an idea: "are we sure the cert is in the right place? Let's try to move it to the same directory the old one was in the first place"
- .................................................
- production is working again
- "Why didn't anyone from support suggest this?!?!"
- .................................................
- 2am. Case solved, manager is informed everything's allright now.
- In the morning we get yelled at by the manager bcz we supposedly missed a sev1 ticket and were incompetent during the conf. call
This reminds me why I stay away from support. And why I started hating people. And why I do not work with indians (our ways are too different for me to stay sane and not to kill anyone).3 -
Apparantly someone made the Mr. in an automatic support email static. BeCAusE ThERe aRE no WOmEn in IT!4

Ok dev's, im proposing a small movement for windows 10 mobile, if you have used windows 10 mobile personally, you will know it is actually a fantastic operating system that is super snappy and easy to develop for (No i'm not a microsoft fan boy, far from actually).
The only downfall of the OS is the app support, so im proposing devs come together and create quality apps and games for win 10 mobile.
Hopefully this can sort of persuade others into a revolution of sorts (And hopefully change microsofts mind of abandoning it), I personally will support windows 10 mobile for every game I create, within reason.14 -
Whenever tech support answers "yes, i can help you with that sir",
what they really mean is "no, but i will google it for you" -
Choke on a fucking narwhals horn you pieces of shit, 28 days no ticket answer, then raised the issue again and again and again, still no answers, tried their email added in all github support readmes - got that in return, all their issues are closed except for the python wrapper, just fucking send me back a notice of your death already.5

What a bunch of cunts.
It's sad how they keep applying restrictions to everything. Two years ago, there were no restrictions. Now:
Max one website, random account locks if you ever get actual visitors, no support unless you're premium, max 5 simultaneous clients, one hour sleeptime a day, some "random" disk full errors or internal server errors and at least two hours downtime a day.
Fuck off.23 -
Pro tip. How to cut down on those pesky support emails? Break the only email link in your app I can find.
Genius.3 -
My University's tech support are all really happy and glad to help people. Was going to look into a student job, but damn no way in hell I could be that helpful and happy lol1

Amazon's AWS support sent me an email about a request to support that I sent to billing, saying they sent it to billing. They then said they couldn't help.
I just need them to stop billing me for things I no longer use!2 -
You know as a FOSS developer with no company affiliation the "I am once again asking for your financial support" meme is truer every second

Family support? What's that?
I have a complicated relationship with the rest of the fam, so I have been avoiding talking to them for a few years now, and it's not like they've been dying to contact me either. Except for mom, who would sometimes give useful insight. The rest, no support, work-wise or not.4 -
I love Nvidia's apathetic attitude to Linux support. It makes it so much more economical for me every time I need to upgrade my GPU - the mid-upper tier previous generation cards are always available for around the same price as a lower tier current generation card. There is no buyers remorse when the only things I'm missing out on by not going bleeding edge are kernel panics and random reboots.4

Mac fucking book pro! No! Just because I brushed up against you doesn’t mean I want you to boot up! Do you think I’m that eager to turn you on? Is the usual brain dead Apple user that fucking lazy to not wanna press a button to turn his computer on? And there’s no fuckin’ way to change this behavior!? I tried changing system variables but none of the suggested tips work. And you even have Apple support people ask: "why WOULN'T you want it to boot up if you sneeze on it?" FUXKKLK13

A bit of an anecdote here:
The project I am working on at my internship has to function perfectly in IE11.
There are users using it on fucking IE6, but no one paid extra for IE6 support.
Meanwhile, Microsoft themselves doesn't support IE11 anymore.8 -
So now I’m working with this code that is roughly documented because ”variable names are self-explanatory”.
Yeah, you just forgot that FORTRAN does not support utf-8 variable names...
Why utf-8? Because then if I see:
real :: 座標(3)
I would understand that you mean ”zahyō”, the usual 3D position array ”r(3)”, but no, I need to deal with:
real :: zah(3)
yeah...🙃🔫16 -

Thoughts on forced emergency support?
I am with a company I generally like a lot but there are some things I generally despise about it. Like forced emergency support.
I am not good at it, I don't claim to be.. I generally struggle with anxiety, stress and depression, I specifically avoid roles that require on-call service .. I'm a senior level software engineer.
I find it very frustrating to be expected to be on-call from 7-7 in support of infrastructure I did not architect, did not code and basically know nothing about. They provided me with a ten minute discussion about ops genie and where to find internal support articles for my training and that's about it.
Last night I received an ops genie alarm and acked it as I was instructed to do, I went around the system looking for the alarm cause and basically had no idea what to do except watch our metrics graphing praying there wouldn't be an outage. Fortunately the alarm was for our load balancer scaling operation, it was taking a bit longer than usual ... Sigh of relief. Stay up til 6am and fall asleep..
Wake up to a few messages from various people asking why I didn't do this and that and it took me every inkling of my being to remain cordial and polite but I really just wanted to scream and say a bunch of shit that would probably get me fired.
What the actual fuck?
Why expect someone that has no god damn clue what they are doing to do something like this? Fuckin shit training and no leadership to mentor me and help me get better at this role, no shadowing, no regiment ..
#confused and #annoyed
Thoughts? Am I a bitch? Is it unreasonable for me to expect my job duties stay in line with what I'm actually good at!?
Thanks.15 -

Autodesk + Linux is such a goddamn clusterfuck.
Firstly, they only release RPM builds for Maya, and say that they officially support RHEL and CentOS only.
No support for Debian, Arch, etc. What. The. Fuck.
Fine. Okay. Corporate policy. I can live with that. I use alien to convert the RPMs to DEBs on my ZorinOS installation and then found a script which does the installation for me. Cool.
Installs with a few library fuckups. Okay, no problem. I added the missing library versions (ancient libpng and libtiff). I run it. It throws up with some error involving licensing.
Upon searching it seems that Maya 20-fucking-17 can't handle the "new" consistent device naming system (the one which renames eth0 to enp1s0 or whatever). WHAT THE FUCK. Okay. Found a way to disable that. No effect. It's doing the equivalent of a boot loop with the same error.
Wow. This is the leading player in 3D content creation software :/
(As an aside, I did try to install Fedora 28 but it keeps failing with a TPM error. Yay for Linux distro quirks).1 -
INTERVIEWER: Let’s say client wants a gif in the EDM design but older outlooks don’t support it. How do you solve it?
ME: Maybe we can try using iframes if outlook supports them and host gif somewhere and use iframes to show it.
INTERVIEWER: Any other solution?
ME: We can probably also detect the email client and just show gif for all other email clients but a picture for outlook.
INTERVIEWER: No but the client wants the gif to show on all email clients
ME: But outlook doesn’t support gifs!!!
INTERVIEWER: yeah
ME: …..
INTERVIEWER: …..
I thought maybe I missed something having been a junior dev and never developing edms. So jumped on the internet after the interview and my second answer is literally how everyone does it. What even was the point of that question? At no point she said yeah that’s a good solution and that’s how we do it in the industry. If outlook doesn’t fucking support gifs then what the fuck kind of solution am I supposed to bring to the fucking table in 5 fucking minutes.7 -
So today when I was testing my new website I learned that IE/Edge does not support smooth scrolling with JavaScript.
I get why it doesn't work in IE but Edge... like what? Edge is supposed to be a modern browser... No?8 -
Honestly, stripe support is the best I've ever dealt with and I wish others would be exactly the same.
No level 0 support agents that don't know what the fuck they are talking about nor know their product to begin with, but instead every single person you chat with knows the API and even implementation details, just such a pleasant experience. -
!dev but tech related...
Got a device configured in a location that is fairly far away from me. It operates only through a cloud service specifically for these devices, with one of the most unreliable web interfaces and smartphone apps I have ever used.
I email my issues to the tech support who don't seem to understand the problems and can't fathom the difference between "reset settings" and "restart device".
Eventually they need to log in to my account to find out whats wrong. I explicitly state that under no circumstances should any settings be changed.
Today I find that the device has been removed from the cloud account. I physically must be near it to register it on the account again. Tech support don't seem to know what happened and the best explanation is that it is "a glitch". They have no way to add it back themselves. I have to travel to the device.
Funny how this happened after I let them access the account... -
No, Steam support, I don't wanna see your copy-paste shit, I just want you to fix your broken SSL on one of your server...
I hate writing to support so much (doesn't have to be Steam). I just want to see a human approach for once, but all I get is copypasta bullshit.2 -

TL_DR = "exec mail ceo jeff@amazon.com"
The laziness of devs, including myself, goes hand-in with the crazy deliveries (groceries, etc) that Amazon delivers without having to leave home.
But...Amazon isn't prefect, occasionally I have issues and usually support is great. But when support isn't what you expect and you're more frustrated than before, send an email response and include jeff@amazon.com
And no, I don't work there... I'm just happy my issue was resolved and I got a nice credit added to my account. (Mileage may vary) -

Something I wrote in my "how not to run a company" notebook:
Getting told you've now replaced the CTO as the person people ask for support (literally, he was recieving no questions), but you're not experienced enough to be promoted to senior.
I replied by telling them I was interviewing elsewhere.
Made me laugh. Is it really that hard for management to get that they should invest in talent?6 -
Company makes you doing end user support additionally to your (dev) job, so you have no time to do the latter.

We make a small server product with a web based admin system, as we were going to have limited customers who will use this (usually just the engineers) and this was not on the www. We dropped all support for all browsers other then chrome/firefox. No more IE/safari bugs for us XD2

I work for a big bank. I'm going to say pretty much the entire Support team is incompetent.
Oh something went wrong? Escalate to devs... cuz we have no idea wtf to do and don't have the most basic technical problem solving skills...
Bunch of useless monkeys... btw guess what time it is now? And what I'm doing?5 -
A client's site got malware infected, so we decided to remove everything and replace the site with a fresh WordPress installation (very basic site with 4 pages of content).
Contacted iPage live support asking them to check and unsuspend the account (with no files on it), but they kept on insisting that I buy their "firewall" and "SiteLock" services, with zero reply related to suspension. I've had live chat with many other hosting companies, never had such a lousy fucked up conversation. Without providing technical support, they keep marketing their useless expensive services. Fuck you iPage, you just lost a customer.2 -
fuck oracle. fuck my company.
Using Oracle VM Manager/Servers to host Oracle Phone transfer solution without support coverage from Oracle.
Requiring Unix sysadmins to update to latest release and not telling that we do not have coverage from Oracle if anything goes wrong.
Gues what.. We've updated to Oracle VM Manager/Server 3.4.5 which was released this year and it uses fucking XEN hypervisor version 4.4.4 which has been deprecated and dead since who knows when. Latest release of XEN is 4.11. But that is not an issue, whatever, enterprise, legacy software, etc.
This fucking update introduced memory leak on the hypervisor which has been reported as per xen 4.4.4 history. Furthermore, we have no support from Oracle which means that I have to dig through mailing lists and limited information on the net since oracle has freakin support wall on nearly each of the major bugs found on that shitty software.
I have no idea whether any newer version of xen will work with that old Oracle Linux kernel or not.
Furthermore, Oracle provided great documentation on how to rollback the fcking update. Reinstall the hypervisor. Riiiight. XEN does not have export/import feature.

- Wait half an hour...no SMS
- Tried few times...Started getting error: This number cannot be registered..

- Wait for SMS...no SMS
- Tried adding my number to a friend's twitter account...Received SMS code..
- Tried again signing up with my phone number, got error: This number cannot be registered..

How can I reach my f***** limit when I haven't even received a mail!
I've been trying to signup to twitter for 2 f**** days now with no luck, wtf is happening? it's a major social network for f*** sake.
And what's worse there is no way to send support mail, their "Contact US" page only has options for existing users..8 -

It's fucking sad that when you buy a new laptop with good specs, good nvidia graphics, good sound and install Arch Linux because you hate fucking windows and arch way is the right way. But, then Linux fucks you because there is no proper nvidia support and you have to use wine which doesn't support new games and you run frequently into problems like audio (P.s. maybe in linux 4.10.11). You have to configure microphone everytime while using Skype and see some other guy having same laptop playing happily latest games without much burden.😣😣😥😥😔😔

Three days ago my focus was shifted from a development role to a support role. I was shifted to replace another support guy who had used fraud to get the position. I have no experience with this role but there was decent KT and I'm catching on fine. During onboarding and KT I'm serving as the first contact for new tickets and whatnot...
Today I got a ticket with an error on our production instance that no one had ever seen before. It prevented the guy from using our service entirely. I tried to reproduce it and... I couldn't use the service either. No one could. Everything was down. I could see the sweat building on my manager's forehead.
Thankfully another member on my team has done a bit of support before, so we collaborated with each other and other teams throughout the day to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. I'm listening to them chat remotely as we speak - so far I've been working on it 9 hours straight.
This service is used by everyone - it's a business critical service with due dates on actions and escalations to managers... Imagine if the support ticketing service for your company crashed. That means a lot of people are asking what's wrong, requiring extensions, etc. I've been answering to managers and seniors in the business throughout the day.
The best part? We figured out why the server went down, and the reason is fantastic: someone updated the server's code without telling anyone, and all they had done was remove critical parsing code. Just took it right out, pushed, redeployed. We don't know who did it or who even has access to do that. I guess I have some detective work cut out for me after we've fixed everything that was broken by that.
I miss coding already.1 -
Applied in a company for a development work, as I have been a developer for some time now and want to switch jobs. The new company was larger and I had no experience of how processes work at larger companies.
I got a call and after the usual chit-chat I got asked if I would be interested in a support role. Since this was new to me I was afraid to flat-out say 'no', so I told them that I had applied to a developer role through their website. They said that theirs is a service-based company and interaction to clients is something everyone has to do. I started digging, as to why the current position is different from the one indicated on the website.
After some more conversation, the call ended.
Later I came to know from an acquaintance that there are both support and development roles at that company and since support positions are few people's "first choice" they first try all the candidates that call; those that fit into the support roles are assigned there.
Needless to say, the compensation and general nature of the support jobs is much inferior to proper development positions.
I dodged a bullet.1 -
the worst documentation I've dealt with was (sadly) some I wrote myself.
We had a project - build with no maintenance agreement attached. so I half-assed the docs and tests... a year after launch we sign a support agreement and I'm struggling to figure out how the damn thing works! -
So no decent internet for me the whole damn weekend and I have no more podcasts left to listen to while working. FUUUUU ...
The internet "technician" that was supposed to connect the house to VDSL really fucked my connection up - I escalated through support and I can't fix it.
(I hate it when I can't fix things myself! Especially electronic ones! Especially simple electronic ones! Damn it!)

How can you bring in a PBX device with no manual at all and the settings are all in Chinese and expect me to be a God and configure it?2
-
We support IE at work.
went to test page in IE, CRASH... With a freaking jquery exception, what?!?! Error was no help, debugging was pointless.
Took me 30min to find out that I can't define a variable in a JS function definition like "function doStuff(isThing = false)".... That's ES6 only...
Made sure I prevent further mistakes by setting my PHPstorm language setting to ES5.13 -
So i work in support (do dev stuff in my own time). Spent 3 months seconded to another team supporting in project clients.
First issue i had in that team was a client with serious data issues which took about 30 hours +/- to diagnose and write some scripts to resolve.
After they went live and got handed over to support they had the same issue again but instead of support picking it up they sat on it till i came back on Monday.
Ive spent about another 10 hours or so picking through audit logs. I get all the shit no one else can either be bothered or capable of doing and to top it off i didnt get the promotion i was going for because i hadnt closed enough tickets, because they keep giving me all the shit to fix for everybody else -
That feeling when Linux has better support for image formats... 😂
I've tried to open ARW files on Windows all day, no luck. Works 'out of the box' on my Antergos system.2 -
This morning I got a reply to my tech support email:
The problem was that the dynamic pages on my website are no longer being served as dynamic pages and so IIS is throwing errors on every page load. Seems to me like they've done something their end because I didn't touch it when it happened...
The tech support email essentially told me to rename all my files from .cshtml (ie. a dynamic page) to .html.
I'm not expert, but I doubt this is going to solve the problem...4 -
The customer support team in my company just put a shit description about the issues and expect the devs to solve it. The screenshot is in a German language that is officially said to be not used in the company yet it is still used. The zendesk has no images or context. Do these customer support think we are magicians?2

Working with Apple subscriptions from Dotnet Core backend. Their API makes no sense IMO. Loved so much working with Stripe, but we had to support In-App Purchases aswell.
Made a small easter egg for futre developers to find. (unreachable code).1 -
Happy!
Being an Android Dev myself, I bought my first app in Play Store!
Nova Launcher Prime was offered @ ₹10 (~0.15$). No matter how small the contribution is, it's quite a special joy to support another dev!4 -
wtf GitHub
https://github.com/orgs/community/...
ran into a person today who said their account got suspended with no info and they were writing a speech for a conference on there and now everything is upsidedown for them so I decided to look into it
bruh what the hell is that customer support
is this what happens when Microsoft buys platforms. uegh3 -
First year of PhD over, no idea where my thesis is going, no friends who can understand, no one to ask for honest advice, no support, lab mates don't care, advisor is busy with I don't know what....... seems like I'm fucked9

Client: We need to support uploading doc, docx, all image formats and PDF to convert and combine everything into a PDF.
Me: lol. No.
No way in hell am I going to try to convert docx to PDF in Java.4 -
I spent hours trying to support \n, \r and \r\n in my algorithms to convert between utf16 line/col and utf8 absolute indices to comply with the LSP, before realizing that
- Orchid itself doesn't support \r
- There is no established user base
so I'm in the best position to reject all files that contain \r and offer to convert them instead.10 -
Worst mistake I have made is accidentally wiping a database table by messing up a SQL script. This was caught after it had been deployed to around 30 customer sites, most of which had no technical staff on site, and we didn't have remote access to. I bought our support team cookies for fixing that one.1
-
No Internet for 4 days because of shitty Metfone ISP. No one should ever support this kind of company.
-
Everyone was joking about how no major innovations are really being made for front-end. Then you get Microsoft saying they want native 3D model support in browsers. Like, for what?4
-
Spent 2 hours today doing L1 support work!!! God i hate working with lazy people!!!
2 hours wasted checking for an application bug on all deployed client pcs when the only issue is the printer has no fucking paper!!!
L1 and L2 support exists for these kind of issues!! Do your god damn jobs!!! -
Pitching Preact for a client. They wanted us to use Dojo because they bought support for it and I was like OH HELL NO FUCK NO

Product owner: when will you have that script written and submitted to DBAs?
Me: if nobody bugs me, hopefully COB today.
Product owner: great!

Me: I just finished user support, I have another script to write first. Does yours take priority?
Team lead: yes.
Me: ok....*sigh*

I loved you Xamarin.Forms I really did.
I defended you everywhere... Released 5 apps.
You FUCKING SUCK, no svg support (no none of the apis work), startup time is FUCKING insane, i could go on for hours......
Please any Android Developer out there is there any smooth transition to native? (Dont tell me about Js bullshit)
Help me fell the Native Power of Android.
Show me that apps don't need 20 seconds to start.7 -
"Write the failing test first."
Oh, I know. This is probably simple, but when you're stuck on support tickets - there's no faster way than to write a test for whatever the issue is and run it.
You wind up having a quick way to verify your bug fix and you now have a test going forward to ensure the bug never happens again. -
So it's 2020 and still no native RTL support in 'modern' text editors or 'modern' web frameworks/libraries.
I'm looking at you sublime text and bootstrap.9 -
Recently I wondered why so many people complained about Windows 10. I had no issues, no crashes, and no bluescreens. Everything was fine.
Then the "anniversary update" installed. After days of restoring partitions, reinstalling, boot repairs and blue screens I realized Windows 10 is now incompatible with my PC.
Well, good thing MS extended support for Windows 7... -
Fuck you facebook
Fuck you zuckerberg and your dumb support.
Your fuckin shitty platfoem became even more garbage. You ban accounts for no fuckin reason. People reporting accounts continuously for posts that are in a closed group that the first thing the group description declares that if you feel offended you should just leave and the posr are jokes.
And fuck your support too for not fuckin being helpful while you explain to them that you are targered.
Fuck you, seriously, people can’t even take a joke and you fuckin support them.
I hope your trash platform dies.1 -
FML having to take on and support a python test framework that looks like it was written by a junior C embedded dev without a mentor.
- Imports everywhere in the code
- No abstraction or OOP
- sys.path.append fest (broken imports of course)
- Global variables fest
- No docstrings
- No readme
- Somehow mixed with a jUnit test framework as well
- Uses Windows environment variables profusely
- Pycharm has a stroke when I open files from this project5 -
My dumbfuck hosting fucked up the mysqlnd installation and it is missing the pdo api extension. All my queries are returning strings for every field. It's easter so no support available. I've planned to deploy the new site in this weekend. Now i have to manually typecast after every query because i've used === everywhere. This will be a long day...6

Our timetable for lectures are online as "rapla" eventsystem. I want to write a small app including a timetable. As I didn't found any way to get the lectures as JSON (Bad documentation of API) but only as formated (and ugly) HTML View, I just wrote a small node module that parses the html body with cheerio and fetches all needed data of each entry in a week. Worked out pretty well, will add more functionality.
Never felt so independent 🙌🏻 -
Recruiters with no clue (a recurring theme it seems).
Got an e-mail this morning via LinkedIn proposing a position in Zurich (Switzerland) doing customization of an application according to business needs, configuration of interfaces, gathering of requirements, 2nd level support etc.
DID YOU READ ANYTHING MY LINKEDIN SAYS? I work in storage support (doing mostly troubleshooting of FC/iSCSI issues between storage and hosts), and live in Amsterdam, and while I would like to pivot to a SW dev job, this seems to be way over my grade of experience, plus I have no desire to go living in Switzerland.
Arsehole!5 -
DB team: We will have someone reach out to you and set up a call for your database support request.
Me: *this will suck...some dude with a super strong accent, audio that sounds like crap on a 56k modem, and horns beeping in the background*
DB team: The support engineer is actually from your same area.
Me: Nice! *maybe an American*
DB engineer: "uh yes ello dish is ramajadeshava and I will be supporting each and every request"
Me: *fuck...but at least there's no horns in the background*1 -
Maybe this is naive, but I feel if an application/feature is strategically important to a company, at least two developers should always be assigned to support it routinely. This great resignation is no joke, and I’m getting tired of being the last man standing here. I’m too old for this shit.8

How to install windows, when there is no network boot support, no USB and you are on Linux?
I did it through vmware, just ran using the current hdd.2 -
Opened up my laptop to install faster wifi card with macOS support and it turns out that I have m.2 type connection ready for ssd.
These fucking idiots in Toshiba have never said anywhere in this laptop’s specs that it supports m.2.
I bought 128gb ssd and installed it.
Fast af boie and no problems booting from it.2 -

TL;DR Asus is a scumbag company when it comes to software.
I love Asus, they make awesome hardware but man do they blow ass when it comes to software and their customer support. They had perfectly working Link To MyAsus app (on Windows and Android) but no no no, we have to release updates and break this shit. Now I cannot use my phone as a webcam.
Fuck this shit.5 -
Fuck you Scaleway! With a large rusty spiked pole!
Yesterday you locked my account due to "suspicious activity" and asked me for ID to verify me for "anti-fraud reasons". Fair enough. I comply, and you unlock my account.
Today, another person from support locks my account AGAIN, saying that I haven't yet replied and requests that I send you my ID *AGAIN*.
Either you motherfuckers have no fucking clue how to handle a fucking support ticket, or your answers are NOT FUCKING CLEAR.
Fuck you and your free credits, I'd rather spend money on a service I can actually rely upon.5 -
Mozilla has announced plans to remove support for the FTP protocol from Firefox. Users won't be able to download files via the FTP protocol and view the content of FTP folders inside the Firefox browser.
According to the report of ZDNet: Michal Novotny, a software engineer at the Mozilla Corporation said "We're doing this for security reasons, FTP is an insecure protocol and there are no reasons to prefer it over HTTPS for downloading resources. Also, a part of the FTP code is very old, unsafe and hard to maintain and we found a lot of security bugs in it in the past." Novotny says Mozilla plans to disable support for the FTP protocol with the release of Firefox 77, scheduled for release in June this year.
Users will still be able to view and download files via FTP, but they'll have to re-enable FTP support via a preference inside the about:config page.13 -
There are no meetings at the company I work for. GASP!!!
Well...we have one, now and again, but it is just an opportunity for the boss to update the support team with changes to the product and we (i.e. the software engineers) come for the free pizza. GASP!!! I would prefer that we have technical meetings, but it falls on deaf ears.1 -
For the fucking love of God, a client is too lazy to adapt his CI Tools to support latest Ionic that he wants us to rewrite the WHOLE WEB APP in Angular1, just to support their legacy JBOSS + Maven build process. Fucking fortunately, no adjustments on the timeline.
If I only know the names of those lazy fucks, I'll put them on the Death Note.1 -
Monitoring tools madness: quest foglight.
So, setting a blackout for an FMS "HA cluster" (which does not work due to a bug infested custom jboss implementation) can bring the servers down... And no way to bring them back up.
This brilliant piece of enterprise APM software costs 600.000€ for a 5year license.
I,ve added more drama (logs, threaddumps, support bundles and screenshots) to the support portal...
45 cases now in total, oldest case still open date 2017...
Fuck you quest software4 -
Short contract job, helping a solo dev.
Me: what's these "200" everywhere?
Him: the max number of sensors we support. I know it should be a define, but it just became that way.
Me: <shrugs. Well, I'm only staying here a couple of weeks. Goes on working on my own branch>
A week later, manager says: "now we need to support 400 sensors!"
Solo dev: <searches and replaces all occurrences of 200 with 400. The program breaks>
Me: what happened?
Him: I only changed the max number of sensors!
Me: Mmm. <searches for 199 as well... Bingo. Creates a define, searches for 198 and 201 for good measure. Gives him no comment about my change>3 -
"hey, can you help me doing this on the phone?"
"hey, do you know what,'s wrong with my computer "
And so on...
I am no tech support.
First world problems, I know 😑 -
I'm doing my Postgrad in I.T with a specialty in Application development. I've honestly lost interest in software development. I no longer have that *thing* I used to have, I've honestly completely lost interest. I decided to accept I really nice paying Technical Support Analyst position. It's very close to my house and I can work from home.4

RavenDB was by far the worst document storage "solution" I have ever had the displeasure of working with.
- Loading data crashed the service.
- Queries crashed the service.
- Monitoring applications crashed the service.
- It didn't support clustering or HA of any kind.
- Sometimes it just worked for no good reason.
- Often it broke for completely random reasons.11 -
GOOGLE, I WANT TO FUCK YOUR ASS, WHY THE HELL THE NEWER VERSIONS OF ANDROID ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO OPEN THE FUCKING WEB APPS ON LOCAL NETWORKS, THE SAME APP IS ACCESSIBLE FROM IOS AND FUCKING ANDROID CAN’T FIGURE OUT THE CORRECT DNS OF THE LOCAL IP ADDRESS BECAUSE YOU DROPPED IPV4 SUPPORT YOU ASSHOLES.6

The bygone clowns have started their new project. I look at the FAQ page. It's literally lies, because I know what they've done so far.
"We've had thousands of clients!" no they haven't, lie.
"We estimate approximately % of customers..." they don't have enough data to support that, lie.
Since when did marketing become lying?
God I hate this planet.7 -
You have two extremes in Australia - latte sipping brunch eating do gooders who live in white suburbs but ardently support multiculturalism (as long the extent of it is only trying new italian coffee or weekend bellydancing classes) or living with white trash where women act like men and men act like animals.

Why do people use fucking IE/Edge, that makes Styling so fucking complicated, half of the things are not fucking supported, and these fucking clients want support for those damn fucking piece of shit browsers.
I just want to blow up every fucking computer which still has no other browser Except those pieces of shit.2 -
I have spent the last 2 days on the phone trying to get support for certain issues...

It is universal that all support lines are complete garbage. Shitholes for stupid people to get paycheques.
I have noticed that this task has actually had a negative impact on the emotional state and it upsets me further that I have allowed this.
I am getting a virtual assistant to handle this because frankly, my time is too valuable to be consistently wasted by stupid people delivering no results.
"I am a software engineer and have tried all the normal debugging techniques"
"Did you try restarting it?"
"Yes, that was the first thing I did..."
"Well, would you mind doing it again"
"Yup... It did not work"
"Hmmmmm....."
5 minutes of silence...
"Have you tried the next step that you already read on our support site"
"Yes!"
"Could you try it again for me?"
"FFFFUUUUUCCCCKKKK YYYOOOOOUUUUUU!!!!"
I am literally listening to someone who is reading the god damn support page (and reading it at what seems to be a 3rd-grade level) GREAT!!!! -
One of my seniors is leaving the team. Honestly, I did not talk about personal stuff with him but during this lockdown, he was the only one whom I talked to this much. My most projects are with him, so in the team I kind of only know him. And now he is leaving, I feel so heavy.
I was anyway feeling no interest in my work, and now this, I really don't want to work at all. I don't want to be in this team, really without his guidance I can't do good. And this reminds me now I don't have anyone in the team to guide me. It's the same feeling as you get old and now no one to support you and you need to support yourself and slowly others. It's frightening.
On a good note, I hope things will turn out to be good for him, he's a nice person after all :) Everyone respected him, and he was trusted so much.2 -

My work had Project Management software before to track tasks and issues, but the new boss wanted to switch to some new support tool. A bit annoying, but no problem.
After decommissioning the old (free) PM software, he decided to put off the new software implementation. Instead, he created a shared g suite inbox that we have to log in to and check for issues. No routing, no priorities, no notes section, no progress tracking, no tasks.
Now I have to give progress updates several times a day on my tasks because there is literally nowhere for me to report my progress. I have no idea what my priorities are since we have literally nowhere that specifies priorities. This is a PM and support nightmare, and as a former SCRUM master I'm about to lose it!6 -
Fucking piece of shit Salesforce Lightning Experience. Theres no fucking way that you didn’t even implement a port of ListView actions to lightning. I have to fucking do a VFPage-LightningAuraOut-LWC just to embed a fucking LWC on the your fucking ListView button. Add the shitty and non-existent support of lightning notifications library to lightning out!! Cannot freaking show a toast!! Ecosystem my ass you mfcker3

If you refused to pay for extended support there's no need for us to "Fix" a problem on your app when there's a new IOS or Android version released.
Sure it might work and no we can't future proof it.
Just pay for extended support and no that's not part of the development. -
Ha! Our Ops Support DBA Manager just asked (tongue in cheek) "if we are now supporting MS Access, too?" To which of course, the answer is no. Business user who install Access on their desktop and use it for business, get to provide their own support. As their Dev DBA, I'll be more than happy to help them migrate their data to SQL Server, Oracle, or Teradata, depending on the Use Case for the data. But, no, we don't support Access. Ever.

Damn java 9 is such a pain in the arse. First there isn't official support for NetBeans which used to be my primary java development ide. Had to move to intelliJ for that jdk 9 support. Then came xamarin and visual studio. And guess what they don't support jdk 9. So now I need to have two sets of jdk to keep my work going. I don't understand the point of having a stable release if there is no widespread support. I mean sure visual studio is Microsoft problem but NetBeans is available from official oracle website. At least they should be able to integrate support for it.2

Does anyone have any recommendations regarding self hosted documentation/"note taking" platform/server ?
I would like something with markup support, I've looked at the awesome list for self hosted services on GitHub... But there is a lot... So does anyone has any experience he or she is willing to share ? 😇

So some big customers are getting problems for a given software project. The relevant dev team, customer support and I, part of another division of QA, need support from a specific QA team. We work for a multinational company employing above a thousand of people around the world.
None of the members are giving signs of life. Nobody from any QA team answers my emails, slack messages or anything. Management does not seem to care either. Did they suddenly die without my knowledge? I am just trying to do my job and find solutions to problems.
I am an inch close to giving no fucks and start playing video games. lol2 -
Always hate asking these questions but Google is no help and SO is just filled with unhelpful answers...
Does anyone know of an up to date debian repo that has an up to date version of valac for arm?
It's a pain in the ass to keep rebuilding on my system everytime I reset my Chromebook and the official Gnome repo doesn't support ARM .-.2 -
Why is it that I'm some able to get things working only after I make a guess complaining to technical support about how it's not working...
And it seems no one else has raised the issue.2 -
There are tools i use more often, but a place in my heart is reserved for ILSpy.
It shows IL code as c# code and it helped me so much at understanding how components work.
Best moment was when a support guy from a company told me stuff that wasn't correct according to the code...
...no need to tell him. Hope it stays unencrypted :-D -
Kudos to Fedora for the 32 workstation release. It works as advertised on Lenovo laptops (even the new ones) OOTB, no issues.
Caveats: It's Wayland with Nvidia graphics disabled and has no fingerprint support, but that goes with the territory. Still an arch adherent personally, but it makes the office engineer laptop story significantly easier. -

I am thinking about picking up a functional language. Currently I use Kotlin (and I fucking love that language) but I have to admit that it's support for functional programming is limited.
But I think their lies a certain beauty in fp and I want to do some project with it.
The 2 main problems are:
1. I have no experience in functional programming. I have no clue how to structure my program (potantialy without oop) and write clean testable code.
2. I don't know what language to use. Scala seems great since it has good IDE support and I like the Java ecosystem and Haskell seems to have more beauty but is missing that IDE support and it is very unfamilar for me.
So what do you guys think I should pick up? And how do I learn to write good software with it?17 -
I hate it when I want to implement a 3rd party API and their docs have no hint at how to create a test account.. Why do they make me call their sales team / bother their support for that?4
-
I genuinely have respect for people and their professions.
But . . . why the fuck are IT Support generally hard to deal with.
I don't fucking have access to a Service and I damn need access. Support immediately without checking says: no you do have access go to xyz find the service click on it bla bla bla.
Bitch, you think I didn't try all that and just felt like having a conversation with you?
wtf5 -
Well, after the snafu with the Ruby dev job, I've instead landed an SQL Dev role. Notice handed in, and in four weeks I will no longer work in support. The fact it's closer to home and pays more is a bonus.1

I've never been a big fan of the "Cloud hype".
Take today for example. What decent persistent storage options do I have for my EKS cluster?
- EBS -- does not support ReadWriteMany, meaning all the pods mounting that volume will have to be physically running on the same server. No HA, no HP. Bummer
- EFS -- expensive. On top of that, its performance is utter shit. Sure, I could buy more IOPS, but then again.. even more expensive.
S3 -- half-assed filesystem. Does not support O_APPEND, so basically any file modifications will have to be in a
`createFile(file+"_new", readAll(file) + new_data); removeFile(file); renameFile(file + "_new", file);`
way.
ON TOP of that, the s3 CSI has even more limitations, limiting my ability to cross-mount volumes across different applications (permission issues)
I'm running out of options. And this does not help my distrust in cloud infras...9 -
List of things one of my Python projects needs:
- cross-platform IMA/VFD/VHD/VHDX/qcow/VMDK/IMG/DSK/others image read/extract support that doesn't need admin/root privs (so no, can't use dd or mount)
- custom DB format (for speedups when indexing files and retrieving info based on hash) and converter from previous DB format
- GUI or actually good CLI
- massive speedups
kill me now4 -
Was testing an editor for writing technical documentation. Asked their support:
Hey ___, am I right in thinking you can't paste images directly from clipboard into a document?
Couple of hours later:
Hi ___, yes, you can add images by uploading them: <url>
The URL they provide has no examples of being able to paste images directly from the clipboard. provides Trying to figure out if this is yes-but-no or no-but-yes. -
So apparently you can only download your albums twice from google, if you want them afterwards you install their shitty "music manager"
there's almost no other service where the artists I want to support upload their music, but holy fuck I wish I know this bullshit sooner. I honestly wish the cunts responsible for this a chronic pain. the more the better1 -
No support here. I was doing Communication Studies but spent most of my spare time learning webdev. My parents repeatedly berated me for messing around with it: "You should focus on your studies". Proving them wrong turned out to be THE most powerful drive.
3 years later I nudged my brother in the same direction when he wasn't sure what he wanted to do for a living (with parents' approval). -
I recently tried to prototype a few pages for a new webapp I'm working on and--because I'm a masochist--decided to try something other than Bootstrap. It seems that no one can support backward compatibility and even Foundation's examples don't work with their current version.
Folks, add new stuff all you want, but don't break what works. If you do, at least update your damn example code! -
So, working on real multi language support today I was searching for countries and country-codes. Yes this one is easy peasy. Also easy if you want every countryname in your supported languages.
But why is there no source for the states or provinces translated in every language. It's so hard to find...
Anyone knows a source for it? Is it worth to create a project for such translations?1 -
What baffles me is how despite being on version 3 of Swift, Apple still havent updated Xcodes refactoring tools to support it. All I want to do is rename a variable or function but oh no. "Xcode can only refactor C or Objective-C code". Yet they are plowing on with new features in other areas like the interface builder but completely ignoring the tools that make IDEs useful.
-
Install Linux they said, it's better than a blue screen windows they said, THERE IS NO LINUX DRIVER OR NDISWRAP SUPPORT FOR MY WIFI ADAPTER I'M BASICALLY IN THE SAME BLOODY SPOT BUT WITH A PRETTIER TERMINAL! The reason for getting a blue screen in the first place was a bloody fucked up wifi driver!!!! I both love and hate you guys7

My vps made me crazy last night when it showed me no space left on device, & i was like wtf dude merely using 2gb out of 50gb. The providers support almost convinced me to do a fresh install my already heavily configured vps. Then all of a sudden the vps back to normal this morning and I again was like wtf dude my night wasted on this shit 😒3
-
Why Apple has to do every configuration so f**ckin difficult? After a thousand logins, validations, and 2FA just to change my f**ckin region I find that I need to contact local support by chat or call even if my account is clean (no payment method added, no purchases made, etc.). Yeah right, great products, but crappy website UX.1
-
WooCommerce sucks, Block editor sucks, Elementor is no better, but if you want a real mess, just add more plugins. Bonus: if you use any "third party WordPress plugin", WooCommerce support can always say, oh yeah, I see that you are using a third party plugin, so we cannot support you, sorry.
Fuck, that's not the kind of front-end development that I was hoping to do in 2023.4 -
I once had to install a Mac OS VM for a school project. I tried customizing one simple thing in the boot options and I was meet with a green screen with an apple support phone number, no debug options. FML. We ended up begging the TA to do Android app instead, and we did :)

I finally got a nice Ubuntu setup working and running. No wrappers or drivers for my existing wifi dongle but a new one on the way. And Cities Skylines has Linux support so I'm happy. I love it Cheers guys xo1

My manager, while apparently trying to blast us over taking too much time to understand a product (that no one in the team knows about completely):
I don't understand why you guys don't understand the severity of it. How will you support the product if you don't even know it? There's no comments or anything also, just code! You guys should be able to grasp it!
I'm sorry, what now?
(The part about no comments is true, by the way) -
Thought about startup.. Strange but literally saying no single coin had in my pocket.. Still have love for startup.. But u know what no project no idea no team.. Still struggling for startup.. Fortunately few days back got proposal of govt project.. One min game literally coin replaced his face.. But after some days grant procedure issue pending sucks.. Still have love for startup.. Suddenly got a thought can I do it after grant but I know I have devRant support.. So still continue to love for startup ;-)
Just few days are remaining and waiting for it.. -
Use Swift Package Manager, they said.
I'll be great, they said.
"Note that at this time the Package Manager has no support for iOS, watchOS, or tvOS platforms." - https://github.com/apple/... -
So this week I'm working with special purpose printers (Dymo, Label, Card-printers).
They only connect via USB and there are no linux drivers, so CUPS on a Pi and sharing them won't work '-.-
Guess I'll try that USB over IP thing and see how that goes.3 -
Of all the browsers required to complete mandatory classes online for the USMC you would think they would support a modern browser and no IE6 or flash heavy courses only...2
-
Great news when the process I need to support through the night finishes early so you no longer need to work. Terrible news that I have zero chance of sleeping now as in preparation I didn't get out of bed until midday and am full of caffeine.

Our head of customer support:
We are transitioning from using Zendesk to Salesforce. We need to do some dev integrations..
Me:
HELL NO!6 -
The guts, i mean WTF?
Tried learning client side storage and the lord of the best practices (google) were like "WebSQL deprecated, use Indexed DB instead".. said fine,im up for skill level-up
...
That was 2 years ago and WebSQL is fully supported upto Android 7.1 yet i dont see no buzz about indexedDB, user s i have to support are mostly on Android 5.0 (which has excellent support)...come on...pick a side and leave devs out of your batshit crazy politics. -

THE fucking pip is not working again. This time throwing sslerror ssl_certificate. Googled and came to know they removed TLS 1.0 and 1.1 support. Solution upgrade the pip. Done. Still same.
Checked their website no information.
Don't have words now.3 -
Thinking about upgrading my security. Found this interesting project on kickstarter:
https://kickstarter.com/projects/...
It looks pretty promising! Open-Source, no cloud services and Windows Hello support.
What do you guys think about it?
I just want a second opinion before I invest money on it!6 -
Coding a voice controlled IoT project is all fun and games in research until you notice no frameworks support your native language...2

i have no idea what im doing been here barely 2 months but am being put onto the support rotation, fml, why4

Does anyone of you ever generate PDF documents under Android?
It is a task in our current project and I don't find a lot (usable) libraries out there. Our first try was iText but under iText 7.1 they no longer support Android 6.5 -
should i add to an existing horrible node js program with dependencies that are marked unsafe or no longer supported, or port to a nice shiny c# or python app that will probably be much easier to support and extend and organize ?2

The first company I worked for had a policy to not ship any release, service pack or hot fix as long as there were still open bugs with the severity "critical" or "blocker". They wanted to ship a service pack nonetheless, but without violating the rule and thus keeping their KPI unharmed. So the support guys got in touch with developers and asked them to lower the severity of certain "critical" bugs. They said we by all means need to write into the comments that the severity of those bugs has to be reset after the service pack was shipped, so that those important bugs would not be left behind.
- Support team violates the rules set up by themselves.
- Developers had the actual work of doing so (and the blame to catch).
- The Support team's KPI just remained unharmed.1 -
When your boss says this is the cause, it must the cause. No, you don't need logs, you don't need any investigation, you don't need any proof to support why this is the cause. You don't have to provide alternative suggestions or any testing... Because he must be right! Just fix it the way he told you!

Microsoft ends support for Windows 7
Support for Windows 7 ended this week which means that security or software updates will no longer be provided by Microsoft.
Windows 7 will continue to run however it will be more vulnerable to viruses and malware. The best way to remain secure is to use the latest operating system available.
Microsoft have a dedicated webpage for user questions, next steps and detailed advice. 👇

I wasted 470 rupees ($5.6 USD) recharging on the wrong WiFi account, today.
😭 How's your Friday going? 😭
(I did ask Customer support if it can be refunded but they said No, it's not in the policy to refund these transactions).
It's a good thing I always chose 1 month recharge over 3, 6 or 12 months recharge, otherwise I'd have killed myself today.10 -
First job was digital agency, then full stack dev. Then.... Later found out absolutely hating to do ux ui. Very passion about backend. Agent keeps sending front end role. Want to do help desk support but no experience....

Fixing a faulty plugin modification from a former developer, and no documentation, plugin provider wants payment for support...
Me crying on the side near to pull the trigger -
Monday...Wasted...VDI not working and IT team still have no clue what the hell is going on..
What a sucking support system.2 -
Wouldn't it just be nice if there was universal browser support and no internet explorer? Web development man

Telegram or Signal? Got essentially blocked from Messenger because I was stupid enough to fold to peer pressure to get it for robotics and since I enabled it with a GV number they stopped allowing its use for specifically security checks while allowing it even to reset a password, and I somehow got a security check triggered, with no customer support and no ability to call with code, so I'm looking to switch. Even if I get Facebook back, I want to move to something at least that doesn't randomly trigger security checks and then has no customer support.rant messaging apps messenger fuck telegram mistake signal facebook no customer support why did i move all my chats there peer pressure i'm stupid12

on an interview for an apprenticeship as IT support, got a question that should've been simple, but got dragged to far beyond. "what if you can't figure out a solution to a problem? what if there are no colleages to ask? what if google isn't available, what if the nothing in the universe can solve it?"5

Was working with my internship boss to implement an CI but the documentation were cryptic and no fucking support on the forum whatsoever.
So I started working on creating my own CI dubbed Blackjack CI and he posts this on the forum
https://discuss.circleci.com/t/...
But how fucking hard can it be to have fucking propped documation.2 -
There is no story of tech support for my mom. Because I don’t live with my parents anymore, and my father is Head of IT where he works. So he does all the IT support at home 😂
-
Me: I opened a support ticket with the software vendor last week. I haven’t heard from them yet and the can be slow to respond. I’m unable to debug the issue on my end. If you can’t wait, here are some solutions to explore. [sends a few suggestions]
Stakeholder: Can I give you examples of another error that I think is related? Is that worth exploring?
Me: 😑 No. I’ve reached the limit of what I can do for debugging. I need the vendor to answer my support ticket. -
I just recently stumbled over qutebrowser, a keyboard-centered FOSS-browser. It can be used with vim-commands exclusively, so no mouse needed. The only downside is that it doesn't seem to support plugins. Perfect for people like me who keep losing their cursor 😅2

Cable/Internet outage. Tried to contact ISP (Mediacom, who are awful)... Reported outage over an hour ago, but no update.
So, I figure it's time to call then...
In support app, selected "Call someone now." Selected sevices. Drop-down for "Tap down arrow for list"... contains the single placeholder "Tap down arrow for list". Plus, of course, you cannot submit the form without making a selection from the list.
Fuck your fucking support app right in the java-hole, Mediacom.
I did not need any more reasons to hate you - you are already at the top of my list, with no one else remotely close behind.3 -
Why the hell do the Pixel 3 XL have a notch if it doesn't support Face unlock?
Meaning there could be other functions related but they are like face filters on snapchat and all. Face unlock is something would be used the most.
Really Google! U decided to keep the notch but no face unlock 🙄7 -
"We're surprised some tasks were getting done faster after you left."
No shit, Sherlock. 3 teams, each having multiple devs waiting with their own support queue, sat in on my handover. If they weren't getting done faster you're in a lot more trouble than you thought and I'd have jumped ship much faster. -
My one of my favorite open source project was Re-think DB!
It was highly light weight real-time DB.
One fine day, I read a blog by the CEO / founder, telling we are under loss since there is no financial support! and we are closing it, by just keeping the website and docs of prev version alive!
I was heartbroken , for days!
This takes the top place for favourite oss project
Btw
It has high no. of stars in github than Mongo db, reddis, etc..2 -
Rustfmt doesn't support inline function calls with a block last argument unless the last argument is an array literal or lambda. Dedicated support for arrays is obviously intended for XML-like trees where a factory takes a number of arguments and then a list of children, and the use cases for block last lambda argument don't need explanation, but what I don't get is how did no one catch on that this is a useful pattern that should perhaps be generalized? Why can't I produce the same behaviour for a function call in the last position.3

Just looked at ES6 compatibility table and every major browser's latest version supports it above 98%. Except Safari. But Safari 10 Beta is out for developers to test, so as soon as they release Safari 10, I will drop support for non-es6 compatible browsers in my own project. No more transpiling to ES5!3 -
One very important thing.
Just thought about getting a supporter today. Clicked the button on my Android, and then stopped back.
As app developer I know, there is a 30-40% fee according to the platform for selling this.
Then I tried on the webpage, my thought behind was, your getting the full money. No possiblity there.
Is that because of tax reasons? I would be glad to support you.10 -
A moodlecloud subdomain is sending me unsolicited emails, I have no way of contacting them, and the moodle support team is just stonewalling me.
The lack of ownership in society really sucks sometimes2 -
Learning a piece of software from an external supplier. The manual is thick like the bible. The examples fail without explanation. Trying to contact support just leads you down an endless trail of support articles. Damn right I get frustrated and bored. Can you blaim me for rather hanging around on devRant than desperately trying to work around problems in someone else's system/documentation? Yeah, I have to pull my shit together, but they have to pull theirs first.
-
Why is customer support sometimes so shitty? A coworker good a Win10 Laptop (Win7 before) and one program wasn;t working there anymore. So we reached out to the support asking to help us fix it. After over a month later and x-amount of E-mails back and forth. The answer was, you have to upgrade everything (Webserver, Database, Client) to use Win10 (no backwards compatibility). Which is fine, I don't mind upgrading and understand that software sometimes is not backwards compatible. BUT THAT IS SOMETHIGN TO STATE IN THE 2nd E-MAIL. Not an infinity later after a tiring back and forth of nonsense.

Assumption. Screens are wider and wider, bigger and bigger.
Solution 1: Make more one-page layout sites like there is no space on sides.
Solution 2 support solution 1: Make everything 2-3 times bigger so there can't be space on sides.
Solution 3 support solution 2: If there is some free space, call it neccessary white space.
It's a trend i see around me. Sometimes i don't get it. More than 1 year i have no side menu in designes what i coded. -
The Ankmocker Package for flutter
Mock your api offline by specifying the fields of your class as well their types.
You can also generate standalone data to test the limits of your UI
Installation very easy because it is a simple file that you just copy and paste in your project
No yaml required
No dependencies
Work with all versions of dart

Don't forget to share and support the project if you find it useful.
Happy coding 🙂1 -
Where I work I'm close to the receptionist's desk so it means a phone ringing in my head all day.
I usually stay back later just so that I can work when it's quiet. You, other employee, have no soul if you caused a printer jam a full two hours after official quitting time and are now trawling IT for a support tech. -
Company automatically disables your employee login passwords after every 45 days, which is a good practice for ensuring security. However I get no notifications that my password is being disabled. The result, for the past 4 months, I've been going to IT support requesting them to let me change my password on their admin console because I forgot to change it 'once again'. Sigh.. :/2

Hell yeah, I love that feeling! I have absolutely no idea about working with the LEMP stack (nginx in particular) and I'm slowly figuring out how to get it working. Even tho I just noticed that chrome doesn't support npn for http/2 and that I am still up (GMT+1) I wanna continue working in this project. Man, I love that feeling <31 -
So the first 3 hours at work on a Monday have been spent giving technical support to fellow co-workers on THEIR OWN local development environment. I have no idea how they've set everything up but they want me to fix their VM's.

Spent 4 hours today debugging the polyfill for fetch in IE to discover the latest version of IE11 has a bug in FileReader.
I have no way of getting around it. It simply cuts my text response off by a few hundred characters. I have to come up will a solution by Friday...
Why do we have to still support IE 😭1 -
Why... why they have to be like that?
https://github.com/micro/micro/... was reported 11 days ago, I have this issue with the dashboard inside docker than registers no services nor clients, a shame because this enables testing and that comes handy specially if you have never ever done micro-services.
Despite linking to a minimal example that reproduces the issue I have in my project I'm not getting any support from the developers of Go Micro other than "use the latest Docker image, it shouldn't panic", sadly others give it a try too but their directions won't fix the problem.
So this makes me wonder, after 11 days and a minimal reproducible example provided from day one, why no developer have offered any hint of what I'm doing wrong? they know their software, it should be easier for them to spot why the bloody dashboard is not working as it should.7 -
I'm currently a fresher and just got an offer for support reliability engineer( tech support in simpler terms) and it pays 5 times the average in my country with lots of perks. Also it involves no programming. I'm interested in programming, should I settle for a developer profile which pays less or a tech support which pays almost the double?9
-
I no longer have commercial licenses for Visual Studio at home.
I'm looking at getting VS Code. I can keep support for C#, and also do any HTML5 and PHP here. It looks promising because it is free, open source, and uses an environment I'm already familiar with. Projects I work on at home ate usually single developer projects.
Thoughts?1 -
Just realized I can't use my new Linux laptop for work because we use Xamarin. And there is no working version for Linux yet. Also no one knows when there will be one. Why support everything except for Linux?5

It is incredibly frustrating to work with SDK with no proper documentation and less community support.
I have been struggling with errors and there's no Post online by someone getting a similar layer.
FUCKING HELL SNAPDRAGON NEURAL ENGINE WHY THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE TO BE SUCH A CUNT. WHY ARE YOU THE WAY YOU ARE.
DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE DOCUMENTATION AND EXAMPLE.
I FEEL LIKE CRYING. FROM 1 WEEK IM GETTING NEW FUCKING ERRORS AND RESOLVE THEM, GET ANOTHER UNIQUE ASS FUCKING ERROR.

this is 4th day to i want understanding what's going on in Apollo client v3 there is no tutorial
i want some groups or community to i can ask for help is there any one here to know were should i go to find groups for programming support ? like facebook chat groups ? -
I have to submit a rebuttal in two days I am crying I have no support from PI. I didnot have enough sleep. Anyone has been there this is my first paper in this area of research

Infineon infineon infineon...
Your aurix tricore is amazing for all safet systems... On paper.
Your support is abysmal. Tried forums, support line to verify a demo that only seems to work sometimes.
I just wanted to get ethernet communication using the demo. But hey one week gone and no success....
And the code seems to behave differently for each run :| the debugger works only on global variables and no printf statements. But hey just make a lot of globals right? So little footprint available so not possible :-\
Hoped that some forum could confirm the demo so I knew I was just making a fuck up, but cannot get that verified...
Embedded programming not for me... :/ -
I am asking here, because even stackoverflow community don't know the answer...
Does Doctrine DBAL support oci variable binding in Oracle or not? I need to know but there are no answer so far...
Hopefully, someone here knows :)1 -
Has anyone worked with ARCore for Android before? Gonna make a project using ARCore but the support is so baad. Barely any help online.1

I hate css. When I was in support, for some reason my task was to redo our support page (which I am no designer and never claimed to be, but whatever). I have been in engineering for quite a long time now. We HAVE a designer. Yet, the support site was never redone (and it should be) and any little bug that comes in for it is my issue. This css is going to be the death of me. Is the day over yet?1

im honestly super fed up with ms teams, their support is absolute trash, and it seems like they didnt even bother to set up a proper support platform at all.
they have docs on how to delete your ms teams organization but they give no warning whatsoever that after u delete ur organization you cannot make a new one?!?!? WHAT?!
went looking for help on ms support and the only answer they provided was to make a new account, what the fuck?
so now im stuck with my main account bricked on ms teams and no one to contact! -
Now I didn't become a dev solei to avoid paperwork but the lack of paper was appealing...
I'm stuck in a support gig because it pays more than any of the dev jobs I got offered and I do is write is docs on Confluence.
Please no "Money isn't everything" comments. I agree but the dev offers I got, I couldn't live on -
Hey guys,
Would you like to join the production support team in early stage of your career ?
Let me know your thoughts.. anyways I don't have a choice to say no.9 -
Just built out my first app using Cloudflare Workers, Typescript, and DurableObjects. Holy shit, this is nice stuff.
It's taken little to no time to build out:
* JSON API written in Typescript
* JWT verification against my OAuth backend (SAML support too)
* CI Automated Deployments including unit tests
* DurableObject support
* 3rd party HTTP calls + caching (built in to the framework!) to reduce network latency and hiccups.
* Cron-like tasks on each stored object so they can awaken the app on a schedule and update themselves as necessary
* Rapid deployment to new environments
The local testing with coordinated "miniflare" is dreamy too. -
Does anyone know how to publish MS Teams app to the app source so that anyone can install it? MS Teams docs are shit and can't figure out the procedure for the submission. It's been 2 days since I reached out to their support team and no response yet.
-
Has anyone used or seen a nice lua back end wrapped already in a windows front end programming platform, I have made many apps do many things in a app called AutoPlayMediaStudios, even tho it was made for AutoPlay Menus at first the tools it as and can make are epic but it's getting past it and the support is bad for $300 you get the app at that time and 6 months support and update after that you get NO updates and no real support.
I looking to move forward, there is the option to learn a new language for most people but for me I do it for fun and I just want to be able to keep supporting the tools I already made but in a more updated platform and better windows integration.
I love lua as its 90% if not 100% readable and understandable so when I get a error I can see it easy.
Love to see what other apps might be out there, also I don't want to make overlay apps I want to make core exe's fk MS's overlay bull.
Thanks for reading.1 -
I finally subscribed to soma.fm and am actually paying for it. A few years ago I wouldn't pay because I couldn't, but now that you can pay by card and Åland Islands is even listed in their country list, there's no excuse. Feels good to support great music that I listen to every day. No more free-riding at their expense :)
