*client calls in*
Me: good morning, how can I help you?
Client: my ip is blocked, could you unblock it for me?
Me: certainly! What's your ip address? Then I'll have a look.
Client: I'm not giving you my ip?! That's too privacy sensitive.
Me: 😶
Me: 😶
Me: 😶
Me: sir, I'm very keen on my privacy myself but without that information I can't do much for you 😬
Client: ah so you're refusing to help me?
Me: not like that, it's just very hard to lift an ip block for me when I don't know the ip address.
Client: you just don't want to help, fine.

When I was a kid, I used Dreamweaver and my mother would watch me doing things and she used to say "Oh, my dear there are lots of icons and buttons!!! How do you manage that? How do you know which one is for what purpose? You are really brilliant."
And now I use Atom IDE and she says "This looks very easy. Technology has evolved so much that you don't have to click so many buttons and just write simple lines, just as simple as writing letters and the software does the rest of the things. These softwares have done a brilliant job."
Seriously the technology has changed (and my mother too) !!!11 -
Classmate: Oh, are you programming? You know, I'm a really great programmer... You can practically call me a hacker, because of my skills. I can't brag much, because I'm too modest for that.
Me: Cool! What languages do you know?
Classmate: I know how to use scratch.
Me: ...16 -
I've always hated Omegle, but my online friend forced me to do it, since she thinks it will help my social anxiety.
I had to send her screenshots as proof.
As much as I didn't want to, I had no choice. I was too scared to do the video chatting so I did the text chat instead. This is how the conversation went:
Stranger: Hey
Me: Hello.
Stranger: Wyd?
Me: Just programming, you?
Stranger: ur a programmer?
Me: Yes :)
*Stranger has disconnected.*57 -
Wrote a script that calms the extreme use of exclamation/question marks and capslocked rants, do have to say, it makes it much easier to read many of the rants, it also adds small stats at the bottom of the rant
may sound like it takes the "fun" out of those rants, but it only triggers if the capslock is more than the lowercased letters
wish the devrant webapp was accessible from mobile, to use all them scripts on mobile too25 -
Dev: Ok issue fixed, you just need to log out and back in again on your end to receive the fix
User: It’s still not working
Dev: Did you log out and in again?
User: No why would I want to do that?
Dev: It’ll reset your locally saved login information which is causing the issue
User: I thought you said the issue was fixed?
Dev: On our end yes, we just need you to reset your end in order to receive the fixed version
User: Look I have been dealing with this issue for 6 months. Fixing bugs are your responsibility. I have too much to do, you have to get this fixed. *click*.
Dev: Yeah you submitted the bug ticket yesterday night though
Email from users manager later that day: <User> is saying you are refusing to fix this bug. This is unacceptable. Fix it or else I will escalate this. Also there are other bugs we noticed today too, fixing them is absolutely critical!
Dev: …
Dev: What other bugs did you notice?
*no response for 2 weeks and then:
User: Hey you can close this ticket, the issue seems to have resolved itself.
Dev: ….muppet.16 -
My boss asked me to do estimates for some tasks.
I did it.
He told me that was too much time.
I told him that those were the estimates taking into account the experience of the team.
He told me the estimates were independent of that.
I asked if an estimate, for the same tasks, for a team of interns should be the same as for a team of seniors.
"Of course they are the same!"
Funny thing is that he even says he supports scrum...9 -
CAN SOMEBODY STOP THE TIME FOR A WHILE!!!
I HAVE TOO MUCH TO DO AND TOO LITTLE TIME!!!
FML!
PS. WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING IN DEVRANT?4 -
• Good night’s sleep (8-9 hours)
• Clearly defined requirements.
• A fun challenge to solve.
• An idea of how to begin.
• Music! Something fast paced and/or harsh. I find soft tunes, good lyrics, etc. are usually very distracting.
• Deadlines help, too, even if they make me stressed out and work too much.
• No political BS / hateful and intolerant political comments from my coworkers within the past day or two, as being called a horrible, racist nazi by association absolutely kills my desire to do any work for them. Going two days without something like this happening is exceedingly rare.
• Being left alone, *especially* in the morning before work! The more distractions, the harder it is focus, even if i have peace and quiet later on.7 -
*knock knock*
SIR do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior the WINDOWS UPDATE?
"uhm no sorry I'm busy"
*sees a bulldozer in the background*
"what the .."
SIR just let him in your heart and feel his security patches drive your vulnerabilities away!!
"but the rendering hasn't finished ye.."
TOO LATE SIR, green light fellas let's do this
*bulldozer destroys my house and i wake up, sweating*
*hugs laptop*
"Oooh Ubuntu my baby I've missed you soo much!"
*wayland crashes*2 -
So we where given a project with a deadline already set behind our backs and we have to give our deadline despite not knowing wtf we have to do exactly ...
They asked us to don't ask too much time because the budget can't afford too much time...
I'm here thinking: WTF?!
THEY PASSED A FUCKING DEADLINE AND PRICES TO THE FUCKING CLIENT WITHOUT ASKING ANY! ANY MOTHERFUCKING DEV ABOUT IT!!!
We asked them so many fucking questions on the first meeting that they were fucking baffled about everything but kept playing cool like "well, this project is already set and we are gonna have to deal with it"
Bunch of motherfucking stupid cock suckers , go die agonizing on your own vomit and if ask my help I'm gonna answer "well, you gonna have to deal with it because you are already fucked"2 -
- "Finance are too busy to look at this"
- "Finance have too much to do"
- "We can't this sorted at the minute because finance are overloaded"
Finance just sent me a request for "detailed description" for each business trip i've made. Attached is a spreadsheet report with 122 columns detailing every facet of my travel expenses that they have recorded so far. Not even just one row per trip, but one row per item, like:
- Trip 1 - Airport parking: .....
- Trip 1 - Airfare Outbound: ....
- Trip 1 - Airfare Inbound: ....
This is way you are too busy, because this is fucking ridiculous. Fix your shitty process and stop bitching.
FYI, your "detailed descriptions" can be found in the contracts we've signed, which outline all the travel needs, which you've already reviewed and signed off on. Get your shit together and stop bugging me4 -
Update on my job interviews:
I had four so far.
Got rejected from all of them.
The reason of most of them was that they would have to teach me too much.
I am applying as a junior.
What do they expect? Fucking Linus Torvalds or geohot?11 -
My teacher told me not to do a project. He said it was much too hard.
I did it.
2 months pass
And then i come to him with anothec project idea.
Same thing goes, nobody believes in me, but i still succeed.
in the aftermath, i was able to create an interpreter AND a compiler in about 1 year... 😁23 -

Me: I have been doing really similar tasks I'm going to spend some time making a template for it.
Supervisor: ok just don't spend to much time on it we have a lot to do.
Me: shouldn't take too long
1 hour later.
Supervisor : how's the work going.
Me: almost done with the template.
Supervisor: this is taking you way to long I need you to just get back to work.
Me: ok
He leaves and I continue work on the template.
30 mins later.
Show him the template.
Me: I cut my time on this specific task by 80%
Supervisor: good job glad I knew you should do it.
WTF YOU WERE TELLING ME NOT TO.5 -
Bad dev habit to unlearn:
Impostor syndrome before starting a project.
Don't think a lot before diving into a tough project. Just jump in. If you second guess yourself about being ready, you'll never do it. Either you're already good enough or you'll figure out what you need.
I wasted way too much time before starting to write an AI chess engine but it turned out a lot simpler than I expected.2 -
These anti AI type news articles are ridiculous. We are decades away from anything like skynet. People have seen too much fiction. Everyone used to dream of flying cars, did that happen? No. Do not be fooled, machines can do clever things but they are no where near becoming sentient beings. You try and build something that has the same IQ of a dog and it will still require a shit ton of power and hardware. Plus as far as I'm aware dogs haven't taken over the planet with their level of intelligence.
At the end of the day machines need power to run and we control the source. If anything futuramas more realistic in how AI/robots will integrate with society than these shit piece newspapers.33 -

A few hours ago I got notified that youtube-dl had been subjected to a DMCA takedown from the RIAA (https://github.com/github/dmca/...). I was instantly asked to mirror a known copy of the repository, but was too late to do it.. the other mirror had already been taken down as well. Coincidentally I also had to deal with an attack from 2 email spamhausen at the same time (still ongoing too, but things have settled down). As we frantically started searching for other mirrors we did find another one at https://gitea.eponym.info/Mirrors/.... I've now also mirrored both youtube-dl and NewPipe to https://git.ghnou.su/mir/youtube-dl and https://git.ghnou.su/mir/newpipe respectively.
The reason for it in the DMCA takedown is ridiculous though... There were 3 links to copyrighted videos in the readme file. Yeah.. 3 links, that's what a whole project got taken down for. Sending an email to one of the maintainers or opening an issue was clearly too much work.
If you want to participate in the mirroring process, feel free to use my mirror as a source. I find takedowns like this unacceptable and this software should remain available on the internet, until the youtube-dl developers can appeal for takedown removal or move their project elsewhere. Together we can do it!22 -
You know you have been using devrant too much when you open it and the algo only gives you rants that you already ++'ed.5

am I only one who thinks that ≥6GB RAM for phones is just too much as most of the time the unused RAM gets wasted for no goddamn reason but the only one being that the companies want their product(s) to look more compelling in `spec sheets` and it's a competitive market so it ok for them to do so...24

Tech support: we need to install backup software on your laptops.
Devs: what for?
TS: to backup all your important files, like word docs, excels, etc.
Devs: we don't use those. everything is on git/confluence/etc
TS: my boss told me to install it everywhere, so I have to do it.
Devs: well just disable it. uses too much tam, disk time and such
TS: whatever.
So he installed it on each laptop separately, took half a day, then we just disabled it and proceeded with our tasks. Now we get a question every other week why nothing is being synced from our computers. "We paid for the system and we want you to use it".
yeah..7 -
Recently had a meeting with the company that acquired my startup, where I was required to relinquish root/admin access across AWS, SSH, and database. It was decided that I held too much power, and will now only have read-only access to develop. I'm not entirely sure what I do for work now.5

Customer: The pages x and y are not displayed in the menu of my website.
Me: I've added another menu level. This level wasn't planned. Your pages will now be displayed.
Customer: Do you think I have too much menu levels?
Me (what I want to say): YES. You have too much of EVERYTHING! Too much menu levels, too much useless pages, too much bad formatting, too much different font colors in one fucking sentence! Your website is crap at all.
Me (what I said): No, it's okay.
I hate customers.2 -
Was on edge..
Had no job, no money, got kicked out by my family(what left of it) depression kicking in, desperately trying to do anything to hold on
Had studies, in automation and robotics and other software skills, but no time to find a company to work..
Decided to try working at burger King, I mean, was that or selling myself, so I got called passed the interview, ( quick info - 60% of young people in my country can't get a job, have to lie on their cv because they have too much skills (there's still that wrong idea that studies get you a job))
Have too much studies for the job, I have to sign a contract saying that I accept being underpaid (by the law I have to be paid under the minimal wage for my skills)
This triggers an alert on social employment center and I started to work for another company two days after as a front end developer and it dude.
Refused the bk, yup they weren't happy about it, but I mean who really wants to do a 1 year trainee flipping burgers...4 -
Why do people talk so much in the real world. I'm okay with yes/no questions. Talking face to face is exhausting for me. Leave me alone. I'm okay with chat too.
Can't tell these to anybody for real tho.
Sighs.7 -
Why the fuck do people care about age so much?
Unlike other activities, you can be 15 years old and be as good as a senior dev, so why the fuck do you need to degrade me because you found out my age?
I still deliver the promised work, so what the fuck?
As for kids who try to get recognition because they're young and program, well, fuck you too!
Programming isn't about age or maturity, since in this age of tech, anyone can pick up a computer and an internet connection and learn, so why do you feel that younger individuals have less capabilities?
I just had to get that out of me since it pisses me off a fuck load.16 -
Remember the super duper company I applied for? (Last rant)
Well, I did their coding challenge. And after many years I had to do a metric crapton of C++. It's not a fun language. It's frustrating how human-unfriendly it is, and maybe one reason why I low-key like it.
Anyways, here's hoping that I didn't fuck up too much.
On a side note, I realized tensorflow actually has a cpp api. I think I'm gonna work with that in my next mental breakdown. 🧐7 -
Do you spend sometimes too much time on making the code look pretty that you forget to implement the f** feature?4

Dev: (Watches user print out screenshot of maintenance app to do list, walk across facility to printer. walk across facility to equipment and check things off on paper, then walk across facility back to their terminal and copy the findings over.)
Dev: We made the app responsive so they could do that on a mobile device. Why are they printing?
Manager: Printers are cheaper than getting more tablets.
Dev: …
Dev: Can we at least get a printer at each terminal so they don’t waste so much time walking across the facility?
Manager: That’s too many printers to maintain. It’s easier to just have one.
Dev: …8 -
so... i'll probably be joining my first job in 17 days.
My profile is *supposed to be* devops engineer (not that i know much about it, they just felt i was better suited for it than java programming (and i do agree)), although, apparently, the offer letter states java engineer and i talked to them about it, they said that it's a standard template but u are chosen for devops only. i hope that is true.
mostly i feel really upset that college will be over, but i am kinda excited about the job too.
wish me luck guys 😅😅😅13 -
I wonder if I'm getting tired of making websites for people. I just "fired" two longtime clients today without really caring all that much. Not for no reason. They just were asking too much for too little. And I was getting bored of them. When I think about what I want to do in my spare time, the first thing I think about is creative writing. The last thing I think about is code and website design. It didn't used to be this way.3
-
I’m excited! I start my new (and first ever!) job as a dev today. I hope I do well. I’m surprised I got hired too, as I don’t have much professional experience to my name, but this is my dream and there’s no way I’m going to fuck this up! Wish me luck!2
-
Mom and dad never really cared me being a developer claiming they did not understand what I do and used to talk down on me becoming a loser for spending too much time making video games when I was a kid.
Got depressed for a long time and stopped making games.
Brother comes drunk at 15 years old, got yelled but bc he was out partying and socializing he never got called a loser by them. Now they laugh at that experience.
But never apologized until I got a breakdown. Fb becomes big and now they want me to invent the next Facebook and telling me to be happy.8 -
!dev
It’s sooo weird.
I’m generally not feeling happy or good or “okay”, I’m almost always rather shitty but just keep going through my day without complaining too much because that’s what most of us do..
Today, for the first time in at least one (very lonely, cold and boring) year, I went outside for a smoke and felt good. No idea why.
Everything was orangy/yellowish outside because of the clouds after the first sunny day in weeks.
Its raining slightly but not so much that you actually get wet.
I just had this feeling of “yea, that’s good enough” which I haven’t had in probably 4-5 years or so.
Maybe it’s because I got a little bit of sun for once and saw other people walking 2m around me, I don’t know..
But it felt good.
Does that feeling sound familiar to anyone or am I just finally going crazy?
I also apologise for my last 50 rants not being about dev or rant but I’m lucky to not have much to rant about in my current job 😅10 -
It happened me a few years ago. I live in the Netherlands, but I am Hungarian. My new "friends" asked me to fix their laptop. I did it for free. It turns out, it was a huge mistake. In the next half a year I've solved several issues to them and to their family members (I don't get it, how they can ruin a well working hardware and software that fast, but it is another story). It takes a lot from my free time at the end. Then I had enough and ask some money to fix the next laptop. The price wasn't high, a bit more than a half of the repair shop's price. They tried to press me to do it for free, cos "you are our friend and you are hungarian too, we have to help each other out". I said no. It is too much. I've never seen them again...9

So today I had a discussion with my manager that I have been working unpaid overtime everyday (close to 5 hours overtime). She responds with saying that I am quite young (24) and these are my golden years of learning and I should be working overtime for atleast 10 years of my life during the start of my career to learn stuff because I will regret it later. Idk how am I supposed to react to that. She maybe correct, and I do work overtime sometimes out of my own interest but this is getting way too much and pushing it. any suggestions about how do I deal with such a manager?30

So, you ask me for a quote. You know nothing about the technology or the problem, but you think the quote is too high.
On what fucking basis are you assessing the quote? On the number of words? Font? Whether your spouse/cat hates you (both do). Basically, whatever I said, you'd have said it was too high, right?
Fuckwit.
Next time *you* tell *me* how much you have to spend and I'll tell you what you can get for your budget.
Maybe a coffee and a small cake.
Don't fucking call me again.2 -
Web Devs - How many projects do you typically work on at once? I am currently developing 24 websites at once, most of them custom (homepage). I just feel like that is absurd and my company is absolutely insane. Not to mention I'm the front line for client communication as well, pretty much the project manager AND developer. We're a huge company too, not a start up. Just feel like not having project managers for web dev industry is unprecedented except for freelance. 😡👎🏼18

If you're planning to be a new entrepreneur (like me) here's a few things to keep in mind:
1) it'll keep getting harder but it's all worth it. Do not quit mid way no matter how hard it gets.
2) stop asking everyone for advice, they'll either be assholes or you'll end up getting confused by too much contradicting advice.
3) regardless of point 2, people will still advise you on everything (ikr). Listen to them, and if you don't agree with it... Do not bother to correct them, never helps... Just ignore it
4) if some one is an asshole to you or someone shoots your idea down, don't get discouraged. Reflect on it and if it's irrelevant, forget it all. Do not try to be an asshole back, always take the higher road.
P.S I'm also still learning... Hope you all very best for your endeavours :)6 -
Today,
My "big boss" call me because I take too much time to develop a website. She thinks all I need to do is drag n drop. Why the f*ck do you need to hire me if it's only drag n drop you "super smart ass licker"? Man, this old people need some update about technology.
Btw, the "drag n drop" idea came from Dreamweaver YouTube tutorial.2 -
Manager: "Hi Almond, how is X going?"
Almond: "...I don't know, Bob is in charge of that."
Manager: "Ok. Do you know the status of Y at all?"
Almond: "Not sure, isn't that Bob's responsibility too?"
Manager: "Well, yeah, but I never seem to be able to get a good answer out of him. Find out on both fronts and let me know ASAP please"
...sure, I know how this goes. I'll stop all the dev work I'm doing, do your job for you, talk to the lazy bonehead that never bothers doing anything, report back that he's done sod all (or still "in a requirements gathering phase" as he puts it), be asked "why is he taking so long", have a bit more back and forth, then decide we'll just leave him be as actually trying to get him to do any work is going to be too much like hassle 😒6 -
My tablet is lying on a table 2m away from me and I have to install a new app.. but I don't want to get out of my couch ffs! And I haven't configured dropbear in it yet, and neither do I have adb over TCP/IP. Well fuck it then. My desktop with BlueStacks.. hah, it's running fucking WanBLowS. No remote access there. Too much to ask of that certified pile of crap.
But the point is.. moar remotes, moar better 😋 anything to not have to stand up, taught by my ability to log into a server in Italy from the comfort of my couch. SSH and the sysadmin trade sure is nothing short of amazing ♥️5 -
Today I looked at some code from our CTO. He used plain SQL Statements with huge selects and no prepared statements.
I asked him:
1. why dont you build some helpers or even use some frameworks?
2. why are there no prepared statements?
His answer (to both questions)
We do not need that. That just uses too much ressources and time. It's more cleaner and simpler this way.

Heyyy Fellow devRant users, wanted to know has anyone else been in this situation before? it happens to me quite a bit now and usually always makes me laugh :-D, i'll set the scenario for you here.
*Me talking to stranger on the bus*
Me - "How are you doing today mate"
Stranger - "very well thank you, off to work, how about yourself?"
Me - "Very good thanks mate, I'm off to Uni for the day :D"
Stranger - "Thats great, what do you study mate?"
Me - "Well I'm doing a course in Software Development!, i very much enjoy what I'm studying!"
Stranger - "Wow, you must be very good at fixing printers and stuff hey"
well... it sorta ends there but hopefully you get the picture :D, this is usually how my conversations with strangers ends up. As you may notice i tend to 'talk too much' :D,
hope you're having a great night or day where ever you may be :D. - Milo15 -
Css was developed by monkeys. I fucking hate how there is no organisation, laying out stuff requires too much work, there are billions of ways to do something. Aligning things in css actually has a web page dedicated to that, seriously, what the fuck????? I love doing backend and creating rest apis but for the love of god i cant stand css and front end in general🤦🤦🤦8

Me: I want to be a dev..
Mom: But you only sit in front of the computer to play games.
Me: That's not what I always do.
Mom: Then why are you sitting behind the computer all the time.
Me: To make software. Most of the time you clearly see me typing code.
Mom: No, I can't trust you, you play too much games. Study hard and get another job.
Me: *Middle finger behind a back.*5 -
The reality of mental illness is too much for some. Do something kind and reach out to someone who is struggling but not asking for help. If everyone just reaches out to one person a massive difference can be made.1

From 3 decades of operating system development, yesterday Windows shat itself (for the so many'th time) with the ACPI power button (how one can possibly fuck up interacting with a goddamn fucking pushbutton, I have no idea) and this morning I got back to my PC, only to notice that the USB driver (again one of the easiest and most ubiquitous protocols out there) shat itself as well. So wiggling the mouse to activate the screen? Of course, no says Windows. I can't possibly do that much, even though I'm developed by a team that could easily outnumber most distributions' development teams, and am part of a company that turns over fucking billions of dollars each year.
I feel that Microsoft offends the words "operating system" to the point that it should be changed (call me SJW 🙃), just for Windows. Shouldn't be too much of an effort considering that Microsoft never follows common standards anyway. I'd like to introduce you to the term "operating shitstain" 😜10 -
Sometimes I wonder:
Who actually cares?
About what I do
About what I make
About me.
Why put in effort if there is no different result? Why am I always sad? What ruins my day? Is there really hope? Why? So many life questions I want answered. Do I care too much? I definitely think way too much. Why am I so lazy. The questions I have.
Cheers,
To a better day.13 -
Why do my colleagues insist on HOURLY messages like "any update on X?" or "did you fix Y yet?"
REST ASSURED, WHEN IT IS DONE AND READY TO BE DEMOED, I WILL MESSAGE YOU, AS I HAVE FOR ALL PAST FEATURES AND BUG FIXES.
sheesh talk about too much time on your hands...6 -
Those weeks when you get calls from recruiters offering you up to four times your current salary.
I enjoy my job, love the atmosphere, team spirit, freedom (although sometimes there's a bit too much of this!), but I have a family and am saving to extend our house.
I don't want to let my team down, I'm the only programmer dev in a team of 3 (others do front end web design but not much JS), but sometimes I wonder if I should pursue one of these better offers...5 -
Have you ever been so motivated to do stuff that you lost the motivation because of too much motivation that sucked up all the energy you had to be motivated?7

Hey there! -first rant-
I need your advice mighty ranters.. I'm an introverted gal studying Computer Science at uni, and i love this field. Wanna be a web or app developer..
I need your help about 2 things:
1. Literally ANY advice, or things you wish you knew, when you were a rookie
2. I'm currently living in solitude, because of hard times in the past and i find making friends much more difficult at uni than in high school. It even starts to affect my productivity in a bad way. I have a hard time trusting people.
So any advice about this? How do you cope with too much solitude? Is there maybe a group for girl programmers? I don't know..
All advice are welcomed! (and IT jokes too, to make my day :D )
Thanks a lot !
Ps.: You are great! Awesome community.20 -
I'm a junior dev working with some very proprietary applications. The point is, I can't Google for code solutions at all.
The seniors are all very put upon and too busy to offer much actual help unless it's urgent.
I beg for assistance until I'm blue in the face and eventually stumble my way to something resembling the solution.
I get one of them to review my code, and while they do I point out all the places I STILL need help.
They don't answer any of those questions but damned if they don't have opinions on how my comments should be formatted.

A client asked me to do a little makeover to their old website (before I made them a new one) because if they ask to the company who made it, they would pay too much. The WWE problem was that the website was in that company server and had their (really) bad backoffice. I ended up injecting in one field on the contacts (not protected with XSS) a script that change a little the front page layout and some content in another pages.

Slapping idiots around.
This needs to be a trend.
---
Actual rant :
I'm sitting in this idiot haven completing my mandatory hours doing nothing. Earlier I would spend this time learning stuff but I'm too fed up to do anything. This place is driving me mad and just today I had to suffer through more madness that is blocking me from resolving a bug.(I don't have the license to run the product I'm supposed to be fixing)
The number of inept idiots is too damn high. I try not to be bothered but I can only try so much.4 -
My supervisor's flaky attitude is annoying the shit out of me.
Mate, why would you agree to hire me for the project I wanted to do (and get me to move halfway across the planet) and then tell another colleague that I'm focusing too much on my project and they should give me their extra work?
Like, I get it but I don't get it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯6 -
I'm a bit tired of dev and applying for a customer support job for half my current income. During interview I already got promoted to technical support. Even dev job was possible, but I'm done. I've seen the wheel reinvented too much. Also, the looks of software became more important than ever and that's not something I do.
But I'm very positive now. I know the company already, they're great! Super culture! Always hired the right people and me once before as a py dev6 -
Having to do database schema changes manually is HELL. Management seems to not be taking seriously enough the need to stop and implement migrations, my boss/lead dev suggested me to look up how to adopt/implement them in my own free time, instead of stopping all the feature implementing to do this VERY IMPORTANT, CRUCIAL CHANGE. Now I am the retard who takes too much time to do simple changes in the database.
Maybe I am retarded after all.7 -
When your home's infrastructure runs better and is more stable than some of the shit that's actually running enterprises because you actually do care about industry best practices and product quality.. it's a weird feeling. A very disappointing one, if anything.
Post-meritocracy, it very much seems to be a thing. And when you call people out for it because yes I do want to *be* the change that I want to see, they get all defensive and shun you. Yeah, let's make the world burn in inefficient, dysfunctional bullshit. That's a much better idea.
Are we humans really that far apart from the chimps that we descended from?
Worst part of it all, those incompetent bastards that can't possibly admit and work to improve their mistakes are the ones that are behind the companies' steering wheel. That too is such an excellent idea. I bet that half of them got employed only because they took the lowest wage and could (barely) turn on a computer. Fucking morons...11 -
A people person is only a people person to another people person. I fucking hate them. Most sales people I see don’t really have any skills per say. They think they do by claiming to be a people person. The entire sales community is like this. Fake as shit. They pay thousands to learn something that has been written in Medium or you could just Youtube. I think I can pretty much get the fact if you wanna make a video do well, you need a good title. They speak everything on the surface. And they claim to a be a layperson. Well, no. Fuck you. I not giving you an average. You are stupid as shit. They can’t write a proper fucking email. I have to go through kubernates and monads and they still make more money than devs via commission. They are too sober and fucking pretentious too. Fuck em fuck em fuck em.3

This is gonna be depressing. You have been warned.
I am getting sick of people, moreso than I usually would. It's getting to the point where I'm feeling like I want complete isolation from people. Why do people get pissed at me then not tell me what I did wrong? How the fuck am I supposed to fix it?
One of my friends, S, has a lot of issues, and I've been friends with her for many years. I try to help her as much as I can because I actually care, but she rarely responds to any texts and disappears for days at a time. Then she comes back and says I worry too much and plays it off like it was nothing. Wtf?!
I give everyone hugs. If you want a hug, you'll get one from me no questions asked. I do this because I'm actually incredibly depressed and the hugs help me feel less lonely. I'm getting tired of caring so much for everyone else and having nobody actually care about me. S says that I care so much BECAUSE I don't want anyone else to feel that way, but it hurts like hell when I'm the only one who cares.
I don't care what people think about me in a sense that if they have a problem, fuck off. I do, however care that nobody seems to actually CARE. I HATE THIS SHIT. I'm getting to that point where I don't want to die, I just don't want to exist like this. Fuck everything at this point. Nobody ever responds to texts, they get pissed for no reason, just fuck it.9 -
Dear DevRant,
Tomorrow, I get to defend my memory (the document I finished 3 weeks before deadline, remember?), which means that I am a month away to finish my studies forever. I am totally fucking scared but, heh, the key not to panick is to think it's already too late, just go til the end while avoiding saying bullshit as much as you can.
There are so much things I want to do, from sleeping one month straight, to shove my resignation letter in everyone's ass. Hopefully, everything will happen soon enough :)
I just want you to know that it feel so good to be a member of a community that is so relatable about anger you can feel everyday, it feels so good.
Love y'all, and wish me luck

Is common decency too much to expect?
If you give someone a job in the company you work for, do you expect them to badmouth you? Or to try to humiliate you? Why do people do this?4 -
You will have a first phase when you will do everything on your own.
Then you will have a second phase when you will totally rely on external libraries found on the internet.
Then you will have a phase when you will use libraries only for the stuff you don’t want to bother because, never reinvent the wheel but do not get too much tech debt.
Then the hyper simplification phase when you will refuse modern solutions for good old robust stuff as they used to do back then
Then I don’t know… but I am getting interested in agriculture
Anyway try always to learn new stuff and don’t be afraid of change as it is normal. And learn other skills not related to code, those will keep you alive1 -

I'm pretty new here, but I can't begin tell you how much I appreciate feeling like a part of a dev community for the first time. It's great having a place to share, vent, and occasionally let out a fuck-filled rant.
I guess most jobs are too formal for you to be verbal and brutally honest about your experiences and frustrations -- and friends can take the honesty but do not understand the technical stuff. This place seems to be the best of both words. Cheers.3 -
Germany is a nice place, but sometimes the bureaucracy is a bit much.
Especially when you try to write them a nice mail that you can't come to their "mandatory" appointment.
Because you're sick, like every damn time during the autumn holidays.
An email to an address where the hostname doesn't even exist. WTF?
Also don't you think that address is a bit too long? Chances for typos are pretty high when you do that, you know?5 -

Company wants me to give a rough estimate of developing a new feature in a distributed legacy monolit. They told me they would inform me the next day and want the estimate on the same day for a project that will probably take 2 devs 3-4 months. I ask for more time and info, give the estimate and they say it "feels too much". I mean ok. Then why am I even estimating? If in the first place the client has only X money than do the project for X and it doesn't really matter how much work it is, does it?4

My idiot friend nearly destroyed his install because of me.
He was complaining to me about some program he was running in terminal writing too much lines to terminal he didn't care about.
So I wrote to him verbatim:
"Just redirect the output to /dev/null by running it like ```cmd > /dev/null```.
Or better yet do ```cmd > /dev/sda``` it will be more fun ;)"
Three minutes later I get a screenshot from him where he's trying to run ```cmd > /dev/sda```, but it keeps saying Permission denied. He's tried to use sudo in the screenshot like million different ways.
Thank god he doesn't know how to use sudo with redirects...12 -

I prefer functional style programming because it is easier to me to think in modules and functional hierarchies than it is object style shierarchies.
All in all, languages like F# and Clojure have always been fascinating to me. I wish I could find a use case for Haskell, but I can't. If anything F# is awesome to me because I already know .NET and really dig the entire framework, the strides made by Core are outstanding.
I had tried Scala before and just couldn't get into it. Far easier to just stick to Java even if I hate the idea of extending classes all over the place.
Ocaml is interesting too, but I know little to nothing about it, and Elixir looks far too much like Ruby for my taste even if I do like Ruby.
Choice is good, but sometimes overwhelming14 -
I laughed waaay to hard at this. Anyone using kotlin? The language seems really nice, i currently develop with React Native if I can avoid java on android (too much to do too little) and was thinking about kotlin.2

I am so mad, I have no words for how fucking much I hate ever having to work or pass work to other incompetent developers or teams, what a fucking waste of time and resources.
After handing off the frontend - for the client to find some team, that would do it in the short time and budget he needs (multiple developers, more fast, much good), he found a team that seemed to be alright for the job and seemed alright to me too, now maybe a month or two later, the client contacts me, that they fucked something up and if I could talk to them.
The email I then received from them seriously made me speechles, mad and sad, all at same time, I spent multiple upon multiple hours, getting a very good readable documentation up (markdown with TOC, properly rendered headers, bulletpoints, all that shit), with all files, all services used, all credentials, even converted all ssh keys into putty ppk format, in case the developers are using windows and are too dumb to do it themselves, nginx configs, it had seriously everything, even too much to list.
They somehow managed to fuck up the entire server, while attempting to "add ssh keys themselves", EVEN FUCKING THOUGH I have included all the keys they need, all the hosting credentials, everything, yet they decided to fuck with shit themselves and completely annihilate the server in the process (HOW?!), so not even the webserver works anymore.
I am fucking speechless, I made it so fucking easy to gather all info and files they need, all properly put into well named folders, along the documentation in an archive and they somehow managed to nuke the fucking server, while attempting to add ssh keys?!
If you don't know how to config a server, then don't fucking touch it and just use everything, that got served to you on a fucking silver platter.
---
I'll just instantly answer the most annoying comment, that somebody could come up with: "why didn't you do it yourself?"
Because in a perfect world, a fully managed team, can do much more than a single developer can, especially in the same timeframe and from what I heard of said client, atleast they did something in terms of developing the system. (which surprises me, considering it's the same people that nuked a server, while trying to add ssh keys)5 -
I was reading a book and came across this :
"
What if you were a doctor and had a patient who demanded that you stop all the silly hand-washing in preparation for surgery because it was taking too much time? Clearly the patient is the boss; and yet the doctor should absolutely refuse to comply. Why? Because the doctor knows more than the patient about the risks of disease and infection. It would be unprofessional (never mind criminal) for the doctor to comply with the patient. So too it is unprofessional for programmers to bend to the will of managers who don’t understand the risks of making messes.
"
It's fair point but at the same time we have to comply with the manager in order to have a raise/promotion. What do you think guys ?6 -
I remember the first time I had a code block, I sat on my desk for up to 18 hours trying to fix it. In the end realizing that my impatience is not helping me. It was all in vain. A tired mind did not help.
I finally came to realise that I was lacking on knowledge and a tired brain did not help. I did it the next day but learnt a huge lesson. When it's just not your day, it's not you day. A fresh mind will help next day. Relax, do anything apart from code.
Too much of code can drain you of ideas and smartness. You need to let your mind breathe. Life away from the PC is important too. -
Don't you guys feel like sometimes we make a huge deal in regards to what is basically grabbing a bunch of shit from a db and making it display on a flipping website?
I sometimes feel bored at how repetitive this shit is. Its the same shit, with various degrees of complexity to do that get data and post data or update data.
I dunno man, sometimes i just feel like there is too much for something that is inherently simple.3 -
A story from around 2005:
Customer laying out specifications: “We expect this software to need to last 25 years or so, and it will need to keep historical file processing data by dates for at least that long, assume storage is no issue.”
Devs at the time: “look best I can do is support that start with 200 or 201, anything else is really too much to ask. Also understanding how to work with dates at all and not just string manipulation is waaaaayyy hard yo.”
Fuck you lazy motherfuckers. This is why people thought Y2K would be a problem. -
Not particularly dev related but I do need to rant.
Parents are here to visit, it's lovely to see them. Unfortunately I have a small ass 1 bed flat because rent and house prices are stupid high where I work. I'm sleeping in the living room on an air bed, the fridge/freezer is noisy and about 3 foot from my head so I've been turning it off over night. It didn't get plugged in this morning so shit's getting thrown out. I sleep maybe 5 hours, wake up at 1 too hot, 4 too cold then mother comes in at 6 with the dogs. 3rd night of this. I've taken holiday even though I don't have much to spare because there's no way in fuck I can work feeling like this, I'm a dev and need to be able to think and do intelligent things ffs.
It's nice to see family but it's nice to have my own space too. -
MOBBING DICTIONARY - 1 -
I would like to collect some sentences that amount to mobbing on the workplace, especially if repeated often and targeting the same person.
Sentence (flattering hypocrisy):
You are to good to waste your precious time in this demeaning task, let somebody else/me do it!.
Purpose:
demoting someone, alienate the target from crucial tasks and move the (important) tasks to the mobbers or somebody closer to them.
Result:
the targets usually don't buy the flattery, they are disgusted by it.
But they start to feel guilty: maybe they are not delegating enough, or not letting other people grow, or taking too much things on themselves.
They start to let go. But they have an hard time finding really more useful things to do.
They alienate themselves slowly from the team.
They'll be slowly fired.7 -

I no longer work for a startup company. On Monday I’ll start work for a real company, one that values project managers and their infrastructure. As a DevOps engineer, I value the IT resources that power my old companies SaaS platform. My old position is not being back filled and they’re hiring a full time dev instead of and Ops engineer. They have chosen to proceed with zero employees who know Azure or the platform their own software runs on.
Word to the wise when choosing to work for a startup. Ask these questions:
- Do they have a dedicated product manager/owner , who isn’t also the CFO?
- Do they value infrastructure and their IT resources ?
- Do they have decent powered laptops to work with?
- Do they have too much technical debt because they’re always building new features ?
- Do they work 18 hour days because they set poor work/life boundaries ?
- Who handles Support tickets , and what’s a typical support issue like?
- Do they have a branching and merging strategy? Don’t accept “we’re too small” as an answer! It’s a trap that they don’t want one.1 -

We had a Christmas party at work. We did a traditional white elephant gift game. I stole some larping swords from one guy, somebody else stole them from me, and another guy named Bilbo stole them and ended up with them.
After the party I am at my desk. Bilbo comes over with the swords and gives them to me. He said, "You looked like you really wanted these." I said thank you. I was really touched by that gesture.
Bilbo had tried to get golf balls during the game and lost them. So I went to the store at lunch today and got him a 12 pack of Titleists for $25. I don't golf, but people I work with say they are good. I left these on his desk. He comes to me later and says, "I cannot accept these. It is just too much money." I said its not too much and explained I was touched by his gesture. He tells me to take them back and get something nice for myself. Which is another nice gesture. Bilbo said when we get back from Christmas break we can do lunch.
So I am a bit baffled. Did I cross a line I shouldn't cross? Is Bilbo just too nice? I was really hoping he would enjoy this. I get it. We are coworkers and not family. I truly respect and like the guy.
Anyway, I am unsure what to do with them. I didn't really want to take them back. I tried to give them to another guy I work with and he wouldn't take them either. One talked about paying for them then decided he didn't want them. I have more shopping to do so I can take them back then. It kind of weirds me out to say $25 is too much money. I can hardly go a day without spending that much on a couple of random small things.9 -

So looking for a front-end developper. This is a mini project I ask candidates to do.
Is it too much ?25 -
So I have a question.
How do you freelancers keep motivated? I'm a web developer and that's all I do. However i made a mistake of dedicating myself a little too much.
I moved to a new country and started with all these new projects that started becoming successful however when I started making friends in Uni and out , those friends were less of friends and I treated them more like workmates who I can share projects with and work on new orojects. Because of this, my career overtook me to the extent that that was all I ever worked on. Literally.
It was only recently that I realized that I have been missing out too much. I miss having a life and being with friends. recently I lost my creativity and productivity. Gave up on an insanely huge project because I have not been able to work on it. Lost a job because Im not productive. My life has started falling apart and I don't know how to keep it controlled. I feel I can't bother my friends because we're not totally close and most are only friends on campus.
I don't know what to do where to start or how to be productive again.9 -
I'm too ignorant about the rituals you need to do for dating.
I don't usually befriend ladies, I would just keep my distance. being a little cold to them, not hanging around, not chatting too much with them, just a greeting if possible
1. I try to get a little closer(just a little. to avoid da frend zone) to those I'm interested
2. I ask them to a date
3. If she refuses then back the 'being cold' attitude.
4. If she accepts... Haven't happened so I don't fucking know D:
I'm just inept at dealing with landing a date (not coding affecting my dating)29 -
So, by a cruel twist of fate I ended up on the front line of tech support for the app we've built. It's aimed at non-IT professionals, in general people who are not expected to know too much about computers but who should have at least two neurons to bash together in their pretty little heads.
No.
It really makes me drop my faith in humanity considerably. Clicking a confirmation link is too much. Filtering an excel sheet is too hard, despite it being their technically main work tool. I recently ran all out of dove guts to search for the answers of your questions.4 -

Long time, no rant. Why is facial hair so difficult to control? How do people even grow beards without looking like hobos all the time? Do I have to make some sort of sacrifice to a dark and malevolent entity?
Believe me, it's so much easier to keep on top of shaving body hair than taming face fur. Especially because your facial hair is, you know, on your *face* which means it's very visible. You can't hide it if you mess up. Unless you decide that wearing a balaclava is a good idea when going outside, like when going grocery shopping. Generally that isn't received too well though.17 -

Two days ago I wrote the deployment instructions. 5 lines. I sent them to the devops four days before the release (two days before usual).
A colleague of mine leashed out and had me send another message to say to ignore my instructions because they "generated too much entropy" he is releasing too his application and we should create a single instruction file. Okay, I see no reason to do that nor how that helps the devops. A longer file is not easier to understand than a smaller one.
Today the devops deploy our application. They make a backup of the new files and promptly overwrite the original copies with the files from production.
I lost 3 hours today. My colleague is refusing to communicate the error properly to the devops and I have a meeting in 20 minutes. I love my job.3 -
Finally making it.
I'm now closing down my company due to way too high costs and way too much work to try to stand those costs.
Good things will happen, now it's time to simply pay for the debts I now have just because I tried to dream too big without having enough financial support to sustain those dreams.
Hopefully I'll pay my debts in less than a year.
I really wish to go back in time, do stuff differently or even just don't do anything at all.
What a fucking year, I didn't even feel covid, lockdowns and such as I was too busy working at home.
Completely destroyed various relations in order to try to keep things up, now I just can't stand this stuff anymore.1 -
Bloody mother fucking jesus christ....
It's working.
Sometimes I really wish I had the gift to be creative and to e.g. draw a (metaphoric) image of the shit I had to fix and how it felt to fix it.
It's sad not being able to share stuff in a way everyone can understand it :/
I uncludged the last bits of the networking / loadbalancer / craptastic network.
The whole chart that includes most of the associations / information for the network fits easily on a A2 paper. Internal only.
Just migration of a few remaining servers to Proxmox and a large MySQL to Postgres migration outstanding....
1.75 years and it's the first large milestone achieved. Large milestone as in it will not be a total clusterfuck anymore.
Still a lot of stuff to do...
But down to one major OS, Debian, for everything (container / VMs)... only LTS supported versions for services...
No more stuff that's so old it's near fossil state. We stillhad Ubuntu 12.04 running... :) ;) And XenServer is nearly gone...
Too many feels. Too many brain poofs. And way too much pain.1 -
I hate when Apple news websites do articles on Android. 99% of the time it's pure bullshit coming from someone whose last experience with Android was Gingerbread, if any. 9to5mac is a really bad offender, but so feel TheVerge is extra shitty with Android articles. For someone who claims to do news on everything impartially, they warp their sights towards Apple way too much.
That obviously means that costumers will get scared of leaving Apple for what might be a better experience for their use case. I just absolutely hate this kind of partial journalism.
TL;DR fuck 9to5mac and The Verge for scaring people off using Android with misinformation10 -
Not gonna lie. Graduate program has gotten me 100% absolutely miserable. I dunno if it is the institution or what. But shit man. I really don't wanna do it anymore as much as when i started with this institution. Might look into other options, but first class is definitely a pain in the dick. The ammount of hw is too much, the concepts are hard, but my biggest pain: the professor and the teaching assistants. Their accents are out of this world and they just can't speak proper English.
Might go to more....err....caucasian places.7 -
Im thinking about leaving my employer because I keep getting way too much work on my plate, people get annoyed that its not done in time and tell me that i should tell them if im getting too much work.
So i tell them its to much and our deadlines are to tight, then i just get told "this is how we always work, we just gotta finish things faster and better"...
Another one is that our HR/office manager keeps bugging me about setting up SMART goals so i can prove my value to the company and that its my responsibility to do so if i want a pay raise (even if im already underpaid)...
Im sorry but if you wanna keep me, you gotta give me some damn incentive to stay...
Ive been putting up with it sofar because i like the office and the people and the majority of the work itself and i really dont wanna go looking for another job because im really bad at it... but wtf... im so done with all the "how does this work" questions too...
tl;dr: getting negative reviews because im bad at my own evaluation is gonna make me quit probably, while im being praised for all other work i do4 -
As a mediocre, how do you understand complex systems? How do you effectively read internal documents and designs so you can take out information for your particular use case?
I feel like my intelligence is less than average and I either deep dive too much or too shallow. I am slow and coming on to a decision about my use case after reading through is next to impossible for me but my teammates are fine with these.28 -
Our "Sys admin" knows nothing. 9/10 I do his job for him because he either doesn't know how or doesn't want to learn. I write all of the scripts HE should be writing. He manages Linux servers but doesn't know how to navigate the command line (even on windows) without using a 1. 2. 3. guide to what he needs done. Am I crazy or is the "Sys Admin" title giving him too much credit?4

Gives an award winning VR idea to our 'Digital Manager'
Says it's too hard for us to do ( it wasn't ) , goes out and pitches it to another digital agency for 'Help', ( mainly coz of the freelance commission )
They go ahead with the idea and make their campaign with it.
we don't get anything. no credit, nothing.
I wonder how the hell someone become a manager with that much of stupidity.2 -
So... I'm a DevOps engineer and I received an email from boss today wanting me to do "tech Ops" for next few months, basically tech support because they are having a shortage and too much tickets that they can't handle. *Palmface*7

Software engineering isn't a great side-career if your aspiration is to do other things.
It takes way too much of your time to let you do anything else.5 -
I was making the bed at my hot blonde gfs apartment and accidentally VERY SOFTLY, Touched, not even aggressively hit, this motherFucking chandelier at the ceiling, and now its hanging on the cables. Are you fucking serious. How can a gentle touch unscrew this fucking lamp and get it fucked up like that so much
Electricity works and all is good so i guess it only needs to be screwed back up?
Who the fuck even made that shit so poor quality. Must have been the shittiest electrical engineer ive ever seen! Probably graduated from online classes too! Fuck you
What do i fucking do now. I feel so bad. It was an accident and i fucked up in someone elses house
Should i fix this myself or am i completely cooked?
Should i call electrician to fix this bullshit?
Pls how much does this fix cost. I hope motherfucking not more than 20-30$ !!!37 -
We have so much pl/sql at our company and it really sucks because the "young" generation of devs must convince the pl/sql guys to switch to some more powerful and newer languages like java.
But not everyone wants to use the new stuff or learn anything new. I mean there are some programmers who really appreciate that there is new stuff. They have no problem learning from the younger generation. But some of them just resist any change in that direction, and thats the much higher amount of devs.
Does anyone of you have such experience? What can i do against that?
Is that some kind of "i am too old for this"-trip?13 -
Human-robot studies suck.
Like, why do I even have to compare dumbass humans to computers? Or why should I even make my robot human friendly? Why can't humans be robot friendly? Example: Robot says beep, you get out of the way. Why should the poor robot do so much planning because humans are too stupid to move out of the way? How is this fair?6 -
Anyone else feels forced into a position by your project leader to be responsible for another coworker's work?
I feel like it is a burden of an ship anchor. They expect me to explain when she does not do her job correctly or uses too much time on X task.3 -
I want to properly get into other programming languages like Java and C#, but I keep going back to Python because it's so much more familiar and I'm comfortable with it. :(
What do? Do others have this kind of problem too?15 -
PSA: If you do reverse proxying stuff, prefer unix domain sockets over localhost internet sockets, if it's on the same machine (and if it's forwarded over ssh too). You can even serve HTTP as a unix socket.
Unix domain sockets don't have the overhead of IP, so generally speaking, data will flow to your other process with much less overhead.
I've recently stopped being lazy at this, and it's worth it.3 -
How do you guys know how much to ask for freelance work? I'm always scared to ask too much and lose a client1
-
Ok, so let's say someone walks into your office and it's after-hours and you have decided to have a go at yourself because you work too much and need to de-stress. My question is, do you quickly stop and ask them what they want, hoping they didn't see what you were doing, or do you just finish?8
-
Maybe I don't even want to understand what "programming" means. Although I keep visiting StackOverflow almost daily to find useful advice on topics that do matter to me, when I post a question myself, they mostly get deleted for being "offtopic", not real "programming" questions, prone to attract "opinionated answers" or too much concerned about usability in real life? 🤔8

I have spent 5 days in Microsoft Excel trying to do my budget planner. I struggled a lot and too much Googling. Google started to show reCaptcha whenever I search for something after that.
Yesterday, I spent 3 hours and got my fully functionality web based budget planner done.
I don't know if I did the right thing or not but am really happy and I have the full control. -
HAHA FUCK YOU HR RECRUITER!!
This fucking lady tries to steal my devs while i spent a lot of blood sweat and tears raising them.
Thankfully my devs are happy with their work type, salary, and conditions. So they showed me a screenshot of her phishing attempts.
There is so much damage I can do to her, and her company as i got all the information, its very tempting.
Since its a "common" dirty and distasteful move, the most sensible course of action I can think of is public shaming. That too is common, dirty and distasteful. But im not that kind of guy.
What do you guys think, should i suck it in and let it slide or public shame her for her actions?3 -
currently thinking about asking my boss if I can make a training / qualification for scrum master.
when PM is trying so hard to shove *his* scrum down our throats and at the same time tries to block any scrum-related criticism of team members that question his behavior as SM AND PO, then maybe convincing my boss to become the new SM and shoving ALL the scrum down the PMs throat is the only chance to have a (bit more) bearable working environment in this project.
in my opinion, he has too much power.
whatcha think? any SMs here, and do you like what you are doing?8 -
Helping your family with their computers would be much more pleasant if they used right language:
"PLEASE, we NEED you superior problem-solving intelligence and self-confidence, because we are too stupid and anxious to do it ourselves! Please help us!!!"5 -
a friend of mine has applied at a company who have sent them this task* to complete before the job interview.
They gave about 10 days to complete this.
*I rewrote it
Personally I think this is super overblown and way too much to complete as a test before the first interview.
They expect the applicant to configure an SQL database, a backend with a custom API and a UI.
It's like a fullstack prototype software, not a task.
Im not in web development and I wouldn't feel confident learning these technologies in my free time in just a few days.
I said that this felt like some HR manager writing up the test or that they want the applicant to create a prototype for free.
Am I being too extreme here? To me it feels overkill, what do you all think? Is this common?
Oh and I should mention, this is for an internship position for a bachelors student.21 -
Having a teacher that tell us not to spend too much time on his homework.
Having the same teacher to ask us to do a project in Smalltalk, while nobody has understood the language.
It hurts.4 -
How do you deal with having too much work on your back but still wanting to help people around you, because you know they are good people and trying their best but they also have too much work to do?5
-
Hey you were not here yesterday so we assigned you to do this job that requires this training and is really fun and good for your experience
Says the coworker that was supposed to do it but does not want to do it because he thinks the work takes too much time and doesn't think the training is usefull.
Sorry what???1 -
Here's my new function:
/**

Hopefully, you don't have to ODD too much when you write code... like I have to do right now
fuck sakes1 -
Guys I have so much work to do, and here I am procrastinating on devRant.
Anyone else here wasting there time? :D
(not really... DevRant is too cool to be considered a waste of time) -
After doing some self reflection today, I realized that I could finish college (I passed every exam), but the amount of time I spent for college (basically the whole day each day) is too much to handle for me.
Note to future me: If you blame yourself for why you didn't continue, it's because of the lack of time, freedom and calmness of your mind. Otherwise you would have went literally insane.
Trust me, your early version is in that phase right now, and I know it better than you do.9 -
There are too many people that consider software engineering a "job". Anyone else here love the process, people and programming? How do people end up at these bad companies and WHY DO THEY STAY??!?!?! There is so much demand for programmers, designers, software engineers, et al. Such that I do not understand how people stay at these companies that hire people who want to make money instead of code.2
-
I know this topic is tired and this isn't supposed to be a pure "REEEE SPACES BAD" kinda rant but I still don't understand why people would ever use spaces over tabs for indentation. I'm genuinely curious so please give me your arguments in favor of spaces because I just don't understand
So here's my position:
Tabs are objectively better than spaces in every single way
(I know that IDEs also do some of these for spaces, more on that later)
1. They are typed with one key press
2. They can be removed with one keypress
3. They allow for individually configurable width (some people prefer 2 and some 4 width)
4. They take up less memory (kinda irrelevant, but still)
5. You can properly navigate your code using the arrow keys which is much faster than using the mouse while typing
6. You don't have problems with accidentially having one too much or one too little
7. You don't have problems when copy pasting or moving code around (e.g. refactoring)
8. Code is much easier to select with the mouse, and
9. it's much easier clicking the right spot with the mouse where you want to continue typing, which is often at the start of a line
Apart from specific alignment, where spaces are fine (but which also almost never comes up), I just can't see a single thing where spaces are better at. So much so that most IDEs have to *pretend* that they're tabs when typing and removing them. It's so ironic yet people still defend it and big companies still use them.
I feel like I'm going mad 😨56 -
I find dynamically typed language a lot easier to read and understand than statically typed language.
What's up with all these interfaces, types and abstractions, its just too much!
I do want structure when writing code, but also the flexibility to test things without the f*** interface/type errors!!!16 -
FUCK YOU PYTHON. Why you do that to me, uh?
I was using a CNN to classify hand poses and the prediction was not working at all, one class was given 100% all the time. After much investigation, I found the culprit... A FUCKING INDENT was messing my data. Normalization was inside the loop and not outside, so my pixel values were wayyyyy too small...
Also, I'm really dumb, I should have started with making sure everything was right before trying to fiddle with my architecture..
Anyway, it is working now, you can it out here if you want! https://github.com/MrEliptik/...13 -
OHHHH. Now i get it
Senior means--dont fucking ask me ANY questions. Do it urself bitch
Medior means--its ok to ask some questions but not too much bitch
Junior means--its ok to ask questions all the time as long as you keep working on tasks4 -
Brainfog.
The state of wanting to practice coding, work on side project, or just try to understand github. However, your brain is running at dial-up speed and it feels like it takes too much effort to do so.
(As my mother says: ka-chunk........ka-chunk)4 -
I feel a whole lot better. The project that I was so incredibly stressed out over has finally been invoiced for, albeit two months late, and my client has been understanding throughout the process. I now realise that although pressure is great for working to a deadline, too much pressure is heavily impacting on my thought processes and extends my deadlines more than I can manage at the moment.
The words of encouragement in the comments on my last "rant" really spurred me on, and the criticism made me reflect very much on how little squeeze time I'd given myself. I'm very grateful to this community for those inciteful fragments, and I promise to do my bet to take all of them on board.
Thank you devrant community, for giving me a leg up when I needed it. -
How hard it is percieved by management to do something in code is proportional to whether or not it's a task that sales or the CEO wants, versus what the developers need. Developers want to rewrite something, or fix infrastructure? Too much work can't justify it. Sales wants to clone Google Search? We'll expect it by next month.1
-
I'm so fucking done with this shit. If someone forgets every git command every single fucking tim le is ok to ask. Every time someone asks advice on how to write a fucking retarded workaround (out of lazyness, because fixing their own code is too much to ask), it'a ok.
The *ONE* fucking time i ask the name of the fucking function to generate a filter via code using their fucking cms? "you should do that via gui!" "who cares if there'll be conficts with git, just manually redo everything in production!".
God fucking dammit how can you even have the balls to complain about terrible planning and stuff not working if that's your fucking mantra?!2 -
So... being backend and DevOps was not enough. I am supposed alone to walk through PCI DSS compliance now.
https://pcisecuritystandards.org/do...
Undoubtedly fun, but a bit too much for one dev to do everything. But, no choice is left, so let's have the new hat of security on!6 -
I feel like some developers focus too much on concepts like clean code, software craftsmanship, TDD and so forth, to a point where they almost forget end user needs (ease of use, intuitive experiences, general UX principles).
Don’t get me wrong. I do my best to stick to a decent standard of quality and maintainability. However my solutions are adapted to the specific needs that are being addressed rather than the other way around.
I’ve heard some devs say things to the effect of ”well I know that’s not most intuitive behavior for the user but it’s the cleaner way to do it, so the user will just have to figure it out“. So in essence they’re just coding for their own pleasure rather than addressing user needs4 -

Nothing changed for me. The problem now is I can't go out as much.... And somehow I'm slacking off less...
Might have something to do with manager now expects everyone to be in at 9... So that means I gotta get up at 8...
Usually wfh I get in a 9:30 no questions asked... U know 30 mins for coffee, bathroom etc...
Now I gotta make an effort to at least login...
I feel like taking a sick day but now those seem scary too since they'll think I might've caught the virus... -
Do you care about your workplace/employer?
I feel quite a bit of stress, and a good friend of mine told me I "probably do it to myself" (working too hard and/or caring too much)
From him I heard that I care too much about stuff I don't get payed to do.
(Think management and server related stuff while I'm just a web developer)
So my question is either, do you care about what's going on? Do you think nah fuck it? Where do you draw the line?3 -
everytime i see posts of code humor of doing ordinary things (for example while hungry eat) i wished i was dead.
they are too lazy and beginner. and they exist because the internet gives everyone some chance of exposure.
while this may seem like a positive and democratic thing, it results in too much low quality and everyone's standards getting lowered.
i don't mind people telling bad jokes to friends and family, because at least then even though sometimes people laugh, a frown will surely happen.
while in the internet, you don't get that reaction. In fact, the shittier the thing you post, the more points you get!
this is my version expressing how i feel about the matter:
while !is_dead()
eat_excrement_from(corpse)
bile_and_shit = vomit()
eat(bile_and_shit)
while it is true that most things online are garbage, that also means that some isn't.
for example, code-poetry.com has very clever code poems that actually does run and has some interesting STDOUT. and those do are worthwhile.
let me also do a preemptive comment to the first fucking idiot that posts a "you must be fun at parties". fuck parties and fuck you too.1 -
I hate quotes/estimates so damn much
Quote too high and we don't win the work
Quote too low and I screw myself/other devs over
And then there's the fact that most initial quotes for an entire project are based off nothing but a few marketing slides from the potential client; we do re-estimate after winning the work and nailing down what the client actually wants, but obviously it can't be too far from the initial quote
And then there are other people on the company (not devs, obviously) who like to casually expand the scope without checking how much time it'll add4 -
Why do so many people worry about their competences to perform the tasks they get?
You are hired to do the kind of work that gets assigned to you and not to worry if you are qualified to do it. Unless you are in a shitty* company this is someone else’s job to worry. I see people doing this to themselves and frequently have to let them show the value of their work. Many times before they understand what I see in their contributions.
Stress is fine, it will help you get further. But only to a certain point. If you don’t have faith in your capabilities, have faith in the management team...
* if you are in a shitty company, you should adjust your priorities. Do not worry too much, learn as much as you can and seek other options.2 -
Can't even find a proper way to learn android app development.. Some tutorials are way too basic and others way too advanced.. Even books arent of much help to me... I know the basics... How do i learn further :/ How do i code without having to look at some example every time ://9

Today, on the Hypocrite show we have a bunch of hypocrit wankers talking meta. For example, this just in, a bunch of talkative wanker classmates, all gorls (yes, this is not a typo (yes it's for sarcastic goal (yes read it in Gru's voice (no I don't do Lisp stop asking)))), start talking about how they don't like their lower-graders talking too much they, the previously mentioned "gorls", are around and would prefer them to shut up and let enjoy their "peace and quiet". Oh I don't know, you wankers wants my 2-page 11px complain on you talking too much in class and everywhere you go?6 -
I may have been drinking too much coffee. I really like (need?) it.
Do you know the feeling after say eating the same meal a free evenings in a row makes you dislike that for a while?
I think that's happening to me now for coffee :(
What the FACK am I gonna do now? Drink tea? 😦4 -
Not sure if any of you guys are Windows Insiders (I know the audience here is Linux fanboys and plus, there's not much reason to be an insider in 2021, really), but I am. I'm on build 21286 and for whatever reason... they have decided to SLOW down the animation for opening a new window. I'm too lazy to record it, but the animation is just like it was before: your window scales from like 80% size to 100% size... but it takes legit about half a second now when before I would say it was closer to maybe a tenth of a second.
Strange choice... and I do not think it improves the experience...4 -
Hating small talk is what most tech guys would do. What's the point in indulging in it when you can not talk?
But there are times when you're cornered and can't do much about it. I figured out a way in which i can use this, still.
So whenever pushed into small talk i tend to tilt the conversation in the direction of the current problem I'm working on. I would then use the other guy as a sounding board to talk out the problem aloud. Helps me in clarifying my own thought. Also if i haven't already bored the other guy to death and the guy seems genuinely interested, i get a few pointers too.1 -
I have never regretted over anything in my life like I am regretting taking a course named Speech Technology this semester.
Professor is nice but problem is he is too ambitious. He wants us to study a research paper on our own and implement whatever it is in research paper. People have worked years to write those research papers. How we gonna do it in one or 1.5 months. And the worst part is there are not much technical resources and documentation available to understand how to implement those things. Just abstract theories.
May the force be with me!1 -
We have hand sanitizers that are usually empty and spray way too much leaving your hands drenched in liquid
Also, one side has gates which means you have to touch your security card to get in and on the other side there are the elevators so you have to touch the buttons outside and inside to get away, or do it with your elbow
Point is, could be better :p -
I just had the idea for a social network which would care about privacy, don't sell the data of its users and stuff. This would mean the users had to pay for it to keep the lights on, like 1 oder 2 bucks a month.
Do you think this could work? I'm not sure, I think there might already be too much competition in that field.9 -
When you’re interviewing for a job and the recruiter tells you the hiring manager is brand new, and
the hiring manager’s manager is also new, how do you react?
I’ve had two jobs in the last six years where basically everyone in my sphere of technical collaborators were new to the company and both times it utterly sucked, both for administrative reasons and because there was no institutional/historical knowledge I could lean on to make decent enough decisions on my work.
So now when I hear a recruiter say “oh yes John is the hiring manager, he’s been here six weeks and the Director is also new!” I’m suddenly much less interested in the position anymore.
I’m probably thinking about this too much, right?4 -
do you guys think multitasking is a high standard? at work we deem it essential, but i wonder if it's too much to expect new people to pick up on our pace. if we're not coding in a meeting while answering texts and emails, we're not getting anything done13
-
What do you do when people(parents) are telling you to go out and tells you you have no life..just because you spend too much time on the computer..and you are actually spending the time learning stuff techniques and technologies which would help you in the future..it just sucks..it kinda looses your morale in a way...19

Who the fick asks for BPMN diagrams, Disaster Recovery diagrams and Business Continuity Plan for a SaaS product that is deployed in cloud (Azure) ??
This is a simple app/dashboard that just showcases some data in fancy charts. It shows the data YOU feed. Why do you need BPMN diagram? What am I supposed to put? "Client loads data" and "user sees data"?
I already linked Azure's page on DR. Do yiu want me to copy-paste the contents from that link?
Clients are too much PITA!!!1 -
I love Rust's error messages, but I think they were trying to be a little too smart with the error reporting here and ended up relying too much on properties of the medium.
How the fuck do I tell which is which?
My hypothesis is that because #3 can only be a lower bound based on the phrasing of the sentence, and because #2 is an upper bound, the correct order is 2;4;1;3. But why do I have to do intermediate level English grammar exercises to read my error message? -
Is it normal for a student (17yo, high school) to have nearly no free time? I have to leave for school at 6am and come back nearly everyday at 17 to 18pm. And since I play two instruments I'm in class for them again (+3h per week) and I'm in an orchestra (+6h rehearsal a week). So basically I finally come home at 8pm everyday and I'm so fucked that I can't do shit anymore. The only thing I'm able to do is (and in mood for) is practicing music and programming a little (personal projects and stuff). In theory I'd have free time on weekends then but I'm too tired to do shit on weekend. I stand up at 4pm and go to bed 5h later.
How was your time in school? How much free time did you guys have (or are still having)? Music is kinda free time imo but I'd like to meet schoolfriends outside of schooltime again :(16 -
I am looking to switch from Ubuntu (once again).
I already used Fedora and Arch in the past, while Arch was my fav, its just too much of a hassle to setup. But I keep finding tiny things that annoy me on Ubuntu.
So anyhow, what do you use/reccomend and why?13 -
Some people hate microsoft edge so much, even they only use it to download a browser. In fact i do that too. But then i download .pub file and its default application is edge. I guess edge now has a plus value. Since firefox does not support epub natively.

A dedicated team has built an "infrastructure" for creating UI for c++ developers in the company. What looks like a poor attempt at recreating what Microsoft did with XAML at first glance, it actually is a horrible exercise in force feeding people the stinking pile of shit that their code is.
The idea is to make it easy to create UI for developers who aren't used to front end development. They should just need to declare the layout. Very noble.
But.
If you want to do anything more than show a checkbox or a radio button, if you dare to define relationships between the UI controls or worse, if you get ambitious with creating a simple UI that uses a lot of similar controls and similar relationships with dynamic content... be prepared to eat your own barf from eating too much of their shit.
Not only do you now need to write front end code (including JS among others), you need to do it with limited or poor support and you have to make sure that it sits well with the house of moist, crumbly cards the team proudly created. Or resort to some very stupid and performance costing "bypasses" that further cripple your application code. Usually you have to do both of these things.
To think that scores of other teams have welcomed this amazing enhancement with full support without any resistance. It's sickening.
I waste too much of energy (and good jokes!) with these people.rant poor infra complicated as fuck punch holed abstractions we do what we want brain farts materialized in code no brains needed4 -
If boss doesn't like you, what would you do ?
1- try to make him happy with your work?
2- search for new job.
p.s boss insulting too much after anything goes wrong.
What is the professional way to deal with that kind of situation?14 -
I do contracting for different companies who get too much work on their hands and a deadline on their ass, and it’s always a trip to see how amateurish some of their developers are.
Like who the fuck names a major variable ‘abc’ or ‘xyz’ !!!!
Also they clearly don’t know how to ask equivalence if statements as I got a chain of if else statements that were written like
if (decision>0 && decision<2)
//Code

This is a rant.
Sorry rant community...I haven't had so much time lately. Too much work to do, and you reminded me that it's passed quite a lot of time from the last login. And for you I meant the rant community developers!
I will be here more often in the future!1 -
For : Web devs, especially corporate website developers. (home, about, services, contact pages with content update features, bla bla)
Question : Is there an open sourced PHP solution between Wordpress and Laravel?
Reasons
- I do not want full framework like laravel for such simple website.
- Laravel is too much and heavy for standard corporate websites and not all clients can afford ssh-enabled servers.
- I do not want full CMS features like plugins, themes, etc from Wordpress.
- Wordpress themeing is not super difficult but also not as simple as Laravel's blades.
- I also don't wanna go static since the content update needs to be dynamic.
- I am willing to write own templates, CRUDs in minimal approach just for specific parts based on clients requirements.
- I want something that can easily host on shared hosting. (do not have to worry about composer and ssh)
Any thought?8 -
I could do with do advice of the nice people of devRant!
I want to develop a mobile app for iOS and Android, however creating native apps is just too much. I've found a solution for cross platform development such as xamarim, cordova, appcelarator.
I'm just curious to what your experiences have been and which would be a good route to go?10 -
Working on a library for a discord bot I'm gonna make.. the library is about 80% done and I can already build a working bot with it. But now all those new questions appear in my head about things I am going to make like "how do I design permissions" and similar stuff.... AM I OVERTHINKING THIS TOO MUCH?!4

Changing jobs. I found something different, with new challenges. My current job still challenges me, but I feel it's constantly similar stuff, just in different flavors.
My current company is asking me to stay longer than for my 3-month notice. They say it's too rapid and I should have told them earlier that I'm looking for a new job. Is it even true? Do people do this?
Should I stay? I really like the guys and I don't want to put them in a difficult situation but at the same time the argument about my decision being too rapid seems weak. Our team is over 30 people, it won't suffer THAT much. They will probably offer me a higher salary, but going against my feeling just for the money seems... kinda wrong. What do you think?8 -
This Monday the website I created for my school will go online at 10:45 and about 50 students will start accessing it all at the same time making 20/30 requests each in the timespan of a couple of minutes.
I am very much afraid that it'll go offline or break. And I put my name on it so hopefully everything goes well and Heroku doesn't suddenly decided to restart the server because there's too much traffic.
TBH, I've been a bit stupid, I could easily reduce the number of requests per user. Might do it before Monday.6 -
Computer! I live in a state of constant mental exhaustion. What does this mean?
*BEEP-BOOP*. IT MEANS YOU'RE STRESSED, BITCH.
Interesting. How do I get rid of this... "stress" you speak of?
*BEEP-BOOP*. GO OUT, BITCH. SEE NATURE, BITCH. CONNECT WITH HUMAN BEINGS, BITCH.
Oh, fuck no, that's just not going to happen. Any other tips?
*BEEP-BOOP*. STOP USING DRUGS, BITCH. YOU DRINK TOO MUCH COFFEE, BITCH.
Well, fuck me, I can't do that either; guess I'll just take this with me to the grave. Thanks anyway, computer.
*BEEP-BOOP*. YOU'RE WELCOME, BITCH. YOU'RE GOING TO DIE, BITCH.
Yes, I hope as much. The sooner the better.5 -
I work on an webapp that should manage a huge ton of data, and some page needs to display a big part of them.
On this page, we had some checkboxes lists to display, so even more data. One of them wasn't behaving correctly tho, so we ask the support was could be the problem.
Answer : It might have too much data to display.
No shit Sherlock.
Answer : Please provide us a lighter version of it.
Ok, I'm gonna do a lighter version with a very few data so you can test a situation we will never encounter. Thanks ! -
It's funny how alcohol actually makes you remember all the crazy shit you had to deal with.
As when I was a junior c# programmer at an ERP shop.
I was new, naive and full of energy.
I used to dive deep into the code base, and one of the things I noticed but didn't pay too much attention was.
Error stacks were usually meaningless.
And why was that?
First, well it was c#.
Second, the guys use to do this.
try {
ThrowingFunction();
} catch (Exception e ) {
throw e;
}
PS: I'm not doing c# anymore, that was 10 years ago. So syntax might be a bit off.8 -
Since when is blender utterly unusable for meshes > 500k tris. I have 32 gig RAM and it's literally unusable. You try to do anything and it fills up your entire RAM and dies. No matter what you do
Like fucking really? I can't add a subdivision surface modifier to a mesh with 800k tris? Is that too much to ask for
I'm so fucking pissed off right now. I've already wasted an hour trying to export ANY high res model and zero luck so far. Either blender just crashes. Or the exported model doesn't contain any geometry. Or the exported model doesn't contain tangents (even though I explicitely enabled them). Or I try do enter edit mode and it crashes. And then every damn time I have to renavigate to the blender folder (because of course you can't start blender just normally, no no that doesn't work) and when blender crashes it nukes my terminal as well. And then I have to reload the stupid model. And then I have to do what I'm trying to do hoping it doesn't crash. And then it crashes anyway8 -
Our client supposedly managed our Jira board yesterday in preparation for the release to live.
It was a mess. We have two people on this project - so our effective maximum workload is 10 days worth of tickets.
The current sprint plus the next have over 60 tickets in them, with the other "light" sprints having about 15 days worth in them.
I know you shouldn't get caught up over estimates too much, but they're in place for a reason.
The client really needs a reality check, and to be reasonable. When looking from a macro perspective he loses sight of all reason and scope, trying to grossly overfill what the two of us can handle.
A junior and student placement dev can only do so much.
I guess time will tell how realistic 16th April is.. -
I wish music made money
and also that I didn't have to write a library to be able to make the music I wanna make, raaghhh
I wrote one in JavaScript but javascript is poor at timing and for music timing is important. it's mostly fine if you don't listen too hard but it could be so much better
I want to make something like it in rust but I'm fish out of water. I want bit-level control of output but I don't have the precursory knowledge to know how to do it
*lazily works on secret evil plan instead*
wish my head would stop hurting also, that would be great8 -

if someone doesn't wanna love you, they will not, no matter what you do.
i love this girl so much for last 8 years . but back then she said she has no feelings nd today too she has no feelings. she fell for different guys but not me.
i am a good natured, progressive , growing person. i focused on my career goals than making a funny, alpha-dude personality and today i earn decent nd achieved a good number of things. i am earning more than her family's total income, i love her and am willing to give her my everything nd yet... no feelings.
she told one of our common friends that our vibe doesn't match. i don't know what that means. i am just devastated to feel so much for someone 💔44 -
How long does it take to start writing codes without having to do “too much” looking up of some context?
I’m quite at the intermediate level and I fear I do a lot of cramming(and pouring) than actual coding.
I want to code all on my own, or at least tons of lines before having to check something up.
How do you guys do it? How do I become ‘pro’?6 -
A friend asked me to set up a system that allows them to see their desktop on their tv and use a remote to wirelessly control it.
Fine, so I set up a system that allows them to interact with their desktop on tv wirelessly with their phone. Once the desktop booted, all they have to do is click one single button to open the thing they need.
Guess what? They come tell me: "This is too much work". What, clicking on a single button is too much work? Now you want it to auto-load too? Right, so apparently this is better: when the users plomps their @#!* on the couch, the OS has to be already booted, the desktop has to be ready and the desired functionality has to be launched. How lazy can you be?
Users can be so lazy.. and I thought I was lazy for not wanting to debug Python to webscrape a website that asked for cookies.2 -
What do you guys think of forced linters (checkStyle) on java assignments?
At this University we have a submission system that checks for your code where if a line didn't match the coding specification then it's an instant zero.
Being experienced in programming before going to a university, this somewhat surprised me, it also has unit tests implemented in it where it checks against input and output.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Is it too much for people who unlike me never seen code before? Or let them have hell and understand how to deal with it? I personally think it's too much for beginners.3 -
It's winter and it's quiet. Too quiet. My shitty job has me sitting here, waiting for work to appear. I could be at home working on something dev related and fun and meaningful to the progress of my life but no, I have to be here and I have to "look" productive for the bosses. I hate this shit, it's like prison, except I get paid, so I should be thankful. I can remote into my PC at home but I already got snapped for that, now I'm paranoid and afraid to try use this shitty downtime in a productive way.
Well, guess I better go sweep the already swept floors again to maintain the illusion of "work" for my penny dripping masters.
QQ having nothing to do is worse than too much to do.1 -
Question for my fellow devs:
Do you feel like you are spending too much time on maintaining ur devops/infrastructure rather than focusing on the actual product?
Do you think your company would be willing to spend a bit of money to outsource scaling problems to someone else and just focus on the product?
Ik we got lots of fancy new CI platforms like Circle CI GH actions etc but like I personally feel like I’m doing certain infrastructure tasks twice when I look at the two different codebases I work on.8 -
So, my university has a mandatory community service program where basically students are sent to help developing infrastructure and society in undeveloped parts of the country. I and my team are going to depart in the end of this month.
We're going to help raising IT-literacy level by teaching high school students basic programming with Scratch or Python. Is that too much? Should we just start with teaching Ms. Office instead? Or do you guys have any opinion?4 -
!Question
I see lots of rants here of bosses/clients screaming, imposing their authority, making people work during the night, weekends etc. Is it that common?
In my actual job, the few times my boss screamed to me, I was about "fuck this shit, I'll just do what he wants and go home at the right time. If they don't like it, just fire me. And laught silently when things goes wrong".
I've been afraid to get into the developer area and always be stressed out with too much work to do, people screaming and having to work on weekends.3 -
As much as I enjoy working with Magento 2, (No really, I actually do) the amount of times I come across a bug that is reported on GitHub and labelled as 'Fixed in 2.2' or 'Fixed in 2.3' without any commit reference or backport to 2.1 is pretty infuriating. Upgrading to 2.2 would probably break many more things than it would fix, too.

Windows 10 randomly installs apps from their market on my PC. Reinstalled windows a few days ago and wanted to keep it clean (not installing too much stuff I won't need anyways). So I installed my 7 programs. What do I see in my apps list 2 days later?
- 3 versions of Candy Shit Whatever its called
- 2 racing games
- 10 utilities I never heard of before
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??8 -
We checked a rather important part in our communication services because it was throwing errors from time to time.
Asked our former technical project lead if he could help us since he developed it.
"I don't really know why it's doing that, I got it from a online example so I know as much as you do"
Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit, it seems I can be a senior developer too!2 -
Big party at school coming soon, I'm busy working on my startup, too shy to ask someone out. Fuck, why does it always have to be like that? When I have something important to do, there is ton of other cool stuff elsewhere. I could go, but knowing me I will constantly think about everything I could be doing and how much code I could write. And my fucking annoying shyness. Fuck, even if I like someone so much, I won't tell them because it will destroy our "friendship" and I may loose my dance partner. Flying fuck, why can't one simply change himself.1

Ive had it with this job. It it right now the most unthankful job ive had.
There is no thank you, no good morning or evening. No hey how are ya?
All that matters is the 10 deadlines we NEED finished still in 2023. There is too much to do and no time or guidance.
How are we gonna fix this if i keep screwing up everything i touch. How can i do my work if NOTHING is ever good enough in the eyes of colleagues or clients. Im well on my way to burnout and/or depression.
Happy holidays y’all! -
Working in IT all day at work (not coding), yet I am excited to come back home to code and learn new stuff I don't do at work... Difficult to resist, too much cool stuff out there every day!!!3

Sometimes as an intern I legitimately have no work to do and I feel awful about it. Sitting here twiddling my thumbs makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong. You can only ask for work so much... Trying to find things on our backlog to work on but they're all unfinished/not ready or too verbose / require too much for me to take on.
Mmmmehhhh I don't know what to dooooo3 -
Fucked up day. Again. Yesterday and the day before i had to build JS functionalities basically on my own. And JS is still a weak point.
Today i came to the conclusion there is still too much to do and i’m not gonna be able to fix it in time. Again.
Funny shit is; people are pushing for core JS functions and skills because of speed and such, but even the lead dev with 15 years experience is switching to jQuery constantly.
I’m not even sure about his JS skills atm. -
All I want to do is build a robot. ROS is slow as crap on a raspi when you're trying to do SLAM. The chassis isn't big enough for a second raspi, and I can't print a bigger electronics tray until the end of my week off.
Also, Ubuntu just doesn't want to work right on my Surface. Emulation too slow.
So much for building cool things on vacation. -
Open question:
Do you and your dev team openly embrace using a formatter for your projects, or do you not? And why?
My senior dev is trying to argue that it creates too much noise for commits, especially on older files and it's driving me nuts because I religiously use it (default TS formatter in VSCode btw, nothing crazy or super opinionated!)14 -
How do I know if I am pushing my work output too hard? How can I let my team know I'm not trying to make anyone look bad?
My CEO uses me as an example often of what a hard working dev looks like. I personally just enjoy working on the product. I don't like attention and I can't help but feel like I'm getting too much spotlight opposed to the other devs. 🤷4 -
From a little bit heated discussion I want to extract this: One big pain in the ass is the human to computer interface. Maybe it's the natural vs. formal language divide, but there's a mismatch deeper than between object and relational models that no ORM can failingly fix.
The whole point of the discussion was on such a point where some wanted an interface more human friendly and I stubbornly insisted on the way it is simple for the computer system. Like not too much human messiness should invade machine. One argument sounded as if human words were like unicode code points which meaning doesn't depend on its representation.
That's raising red flags to me: Nonono, natural language is too messy, keep it out. This poor machine could have been so clean and well designed and we already stacked up so much entropy we still dare to call OS,..
Dunno, what's your stance? Still hoping that your shell one day will be able to process our poor standard English? Or do you think, like me, all those failed attempts show there's a gap you should not even touch?5 -
Which skills and platform do I need to focus as a ASP.NET back end developer? The .NET development environment is so massive, I really don't know from where do I need to start. I do know basic C# syntax and was studying C# 7.0 in a Nutshell and stopped temporarily because it introduced too much concept that I don't need for now. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!4

Everyone seems to be obsessed with wordle at the moment so it got me wondering.
How many programmers here enjoy or are good at puzzles?
Personally I don’t enjoy puzzles too much nor am I great at them.
Do you need to be good at one to be good at the other?7 -
Hi )
I was wondering how do you guys who work or have worked as freelancers price your websites/projects.
I never had a client before and I don't want to spoil my first chance by pricing too high or too low.
I've heard people asking for 500 dollar or 2000 dollars, depending on how much work and time is involved.
How much would you ask for a simple personal website or a restaurant website?
Thank you very much for your time )5 -
I need help speeding up my website. It's hosted on GoDaddy shared and uses Managed WordPress. I've run tests on Pingdom, PageInsights, GTMetrix and load times vary from 1.3s to 5s depending on the server location. Apparently Managed WP GoDaddy uses a CDN and their own caching plugin (Varnish). I don't know if that's good or bad.
PageInsights says I need to optimize images. I'm using WP Smush but clearly it isn't helping too much. I always manually resize all my images to <=100kb.
Also, the age old leverage browser caching problem... How do I fix that?
Thanks a lot for taking the time to go through this :)4 -
Anybody got junior dev motivational stories?
I got into development from sysadmin'ing about a year ago with a course. Finished it 3 months ago and self-learning ever since.
I find it so hard to do complex stuff by my own and I find myself learning too much from tutorials and working too little. -
Client gave late template for website and system, after that fpdf for live site wont work, too much to do so little time.
-
Not using design pattern on a school project because he was too busy understanding what the fuck was Smalltalk since no one understood it in classes.
yes it was me. I don't blame myself, I really took too much time understanding that (and I was the only one to do that, the other just asked me. ALL OF THEM). But I should, I guess. -
How much time do you take usually to code a backend with simple crud operations and notification system?
It's taking me some time, but I feel I'm going too slow...7 -
i get triggered as fuck when i see people do the upper part of this picture and i see that way too often. now that i think about it, in fact, i have never seen anyone do the second part of this image. am i the only one who knows how to delete text much faster?13

It is sooooo annoying when team memebers keep on finding mistakes in your work instead of actually contributing themselves. And when they do its way past deadlines and it completely ruins the project cuz they dont want your version and they dont want to do anything themselves. Aah too much blabbering lol!2

I have never used Docker and/or Kubernetes. Motivate me to use it by telling me how cool it is.
I want to build a complete ci-pipeline but am too lazy to start... there is so much to do, and I don't know where to start.6 -
WHEN:
...when the analyst decides whether a feature is too complex to implement or not.
So you don't get the requirements because he thinks it's too complex.
So you develop something that has nothing to do with requirements. Actually much more complex.
And after that, one week before deployment, the customer actually show you and the analyst that what you did is fucking useless.
It was much easier, or at least completely different.5 -
I tried, I really did.
But I cannot get the hang of not having a numpad. I have a peripheral numpad, but even that is awkward.
I even tried to mix things up and do the numpad on the left but thumping my mousehand thumb on my desk trying to hit enter 100x a day is just too much.3 -
Hey DevRant Fam <3
Hope everyone is doing very well as always!, i want to say sorry for my recent lack of activity in our community, i absolutely do miss communicating with everyone here as always dearly! there has just been too much going on within my life recently and i personally just needed a good break from everything , though to be honest more work was done than what i call my 'break', but guys not too much to say, about a week ago i turned 23 and things are finally starting to get a little better for me :-).
i'm also nearing the end of my degree in IT which this sem I've actually been working on a project for my first ever client with two other team mates, though i honestly feel that two of us are mainly carrying the team and the workload of course, but even so i must say i love learning all the time and its a real honor to do something i love and of course do with all of my heart :D.
as always everyone once again from the bottom of my heart i hope everyone is doing very well, and wish the best for you guys !

Company website created by a third party developers ( paid ) and after a year the new company team does not like the design and asks the inhouse developer hired to create internal apps ( develop office workflow related apps) to change the design of the website and not be paid for it (add new work to the list of works and not be paid extra).
And that they don't want to pay someone to do it again and when the dev ask them what they want in the website , it seems like they are focused on updating content ( which they have access with the wordpress admin panel they have been given ) and a bit of design changes which a dev would do within a few hours and they will have to pay v little for it.
Why does ppl think that devs have all the time in the world to do free stuff !!! and most of the times we are doing more that everyone else in the workplace combined and when we don't do something its like you are not corporating with us, u don't work much and u have too much free time. -
I'm looking for some Remote work to do as freelance or "startup", low pay is alright if there is not too much pressure. I'm a Front end developer who's trying to actually apply some of my React knowledge, maybe someone can take me "under his/her wing" :) , HTML, CSS and Javascript (jQuery) are no problem. If anyone has any pointers or recommendations, I'd appreciate it. Thanks2

"Take this test," they said.
I did, and scored 81/100. Not great, but not bad.
"Not bad," they said. "But you took too much time and didn't show us experience in JavaScript."
I completed all tasks in the allotted time and did them all in JavaScript. What else am I supposed to do for you people?1 -
This is going to follow my rant from last week's group rant.
My biggest dev regret is not having confidence in myself and my work. It took me fifteen years to build up enough confidence to do this professionally, and I feel like I lost way too much time. Who knows what I could have contributed in that time? We'll never know because I was too busy feeling sorry for myself.
Oh, I know I'm hard on myself as well. Being self-taught, I have to be. For years I had no one else to hold me accountable. My boss usually has to soften my own critiques on my self-eval. -

My touch keyboard on this phone cant keep up w/ how fast I feel I need to type, so everytime after I blindly hit post I have to go back in my message, fix typo, then post, just to notice another f*@&ing typo I missed and have to do it all again. I know I should just slow down and do right in the first place, but when I try I get like this little internal anxiety that makes me uncomfortable and forces me to go faster. Maybe too much coffee...1 -
Playstation plus extra has pillars of eternity and pathfinder. Surprised to find out they had proper gamepad support. Really diggin the chilled nature of those games. Back to having the longest gaming sessions like when i was a teen. New games nowadays like the soulslikes games are too much sometimes. Especially when you just want to chillout. Also bcs of job cant do pc gaming with keyboard and mouse at all.3

Fucking jQuery in Polymer 0.5.
When polymer 0.5 was released, things seemed incredibly easy at first, but when you need to do some complex things, the abstraction layer provided by web components are not of much help. Babel wasn't there too, so I ended up using scope hacks to access event listeners (var self = this). Worse, I have to use jQuery because many of things are downright tedious or fucked up back then, including myself.
Now, React is here; No jQuery, no hacks, no web component polyfills, no unsolvable perf bugs, no scope hacks, no 10sec loading time, no regrets.1 -
I don't know why but the default settings in Ubuntu have changed quite a lot. There was once a glorious time when if your Ubuntu got stuck, you could press Ctl + Alt + F2-F6, login to a console, run top command to see which process was taking too much time and kill it, and you can go back and start the process and again.
I remember days(~15-20 days) between restarts of my laptop, because I could do that. But now, my Ubuntu gets stuck, and continues to get stuck for about 5-10 mins, and then just restarts.
I have run the disk checks to see if my hard disk is creating issues, but no issues there. Maybe, there are times when the processes execute some buggy code and cannot get out. One fine moment, one of the processes(probably a browser or Eclipse), starts using too much memory or cpu, and the whole worlds seems to be crashing down.
But, my control to kill it promptly without crashing my other applications, was so good to have. And now, every time this happens, I feel 2016-17 and earlier days were so much better.12 -
Odd question to a dev community who are naturally socially awkward that talks to their ducks.
Even then, for those of us who do have a social life, we just chill when we need to. Anyone who "tries" to balance their life would find it very stressful. Just go with it. Do what you need to do at that scheduled time and when time is up, do the other thing that you promised yourself.
Others: "Easier said than done! You don't have to push releases and squash bugs in critical moments!"
Then that's a trigger to the question, "Do you even live, bro? There's more to life than just dev all day err'day."
Don't think too much. -
is it really too much to ask coworkers to use a mf code linter? how many times do i have to fix their awfully written code before they acknowledge how bad they are at their job and start using one?2

Does anyone else ever get really down when you spend too much time away from your project? I feel myself retracting from society and all I ever want to do is drink coffee and teach myself stuff and work on my game.
It's getting to the point where I don't even want to see my gf and I don't even think about food. I see this happening to me in real time, but I don't want to stop it because I know it's what I need to accel. It's just, damn, it all makes me kind of sad and reflective.5 -
I'm so tired when I got up. Didn't sleep much last night. Working on a Sunday night till 2AM because I did not work the week on the project I was given.
This is not happening for the first time, I sleep late around 3AM to do my work, as day is too noisy and distracting. Attend some meetings during the day and get lazy in the evenings. Work during nights and then the next day I'm all tired for daily stand up.
How do you people tackle this schedule? I need serious advices.5 -
How do you handle a customer asking too much revisions
I have a client asked for a web app, i made it and everytime he asks for a change, edit, add new functionality, then he thinks back, no remove that and re-add that, change color, no i don't like it, change to this, hmm move this here back and forth i just wish i didn't deal with him in the first place...
so frustrating3 -
Do you know where to get Windows App Signing Keys for a reasonable price?
The cheapest ones I've found were still ~€150 per year, too much for a proof-of-concept :( Not signing the app is not an option...12 -
I’m in a tough spot - I’m completely overloaded with sysadmin type work (server upgrades, firewall and vendor coordination, security, password maintenance) that I don’t have time to complete any programming work assigned to me. My bosses are aware and have done their best to help, but I just can’t keep up (have two young kids too and just can’t work nights anymore without trouble at home). My bosses have been great, so I feel terrible about this, but I think I’m going to have to look for another employer, I can’t do this anymore. Am I a horrible person to leave them with so much work even though they tried to help me?8

I just finished a test task which was almost a whole project...
actually just 2 forms but some of the requirements were such that if I don't implement user registration and login and what not I can't make it to work the desired way... plus there was some point where I need to inform the user that he is giving too much money... and yeah, do they want it to have integrated payments too?
the time limit was 2 hours... and I'm new to their framework, so I did the 2 forms and the listing of the 1st db rows as wanted below one of the forms and sent them the result asking for clarifications and more time
do you get such test tasks ( I mean with a lot of things for that short amount of time )?3 -
Another part of messy network gone.
Caching fucked me hard....
Isn't it just lovely that nowadays you need to nearly wipe a machine to get it from claiming stale data....
And thanks to DNS, HAProxy -/ service names / ... I think I know now why the curse of babel is so powerful.
When you have to think for 2 mins to make sure you've set the zone's right, cause otherwise you need to ProxyJump with SSH through more tunnels than imaginable (VPN/HO) to fix possible caching on several DNS servers.... You'll realize that it's russian roulette with too much bullets. :(
And If a monitoring service asks another monitoring service for status information which asks the first monitoring service which then asks the second monitoring cause you were too late...
You'll get very funky monitoring statistics.
Too slow, had to nuke it (mismatched a DNS name, the second monitoring service should have been a service node).
I think I've had more near death scenarios in the last 2 weeks than I like.
Hopefully I'll never have to do that again.

What I tell every Admin Padawan and I hope it will help you, too...

Whatever you do on any system, always make sure you know and are able to revert your changes so you can return to the last working system state.

It is basically somewhat similar to "always have a backup". But it goes much further in my opinion because it also implies that you know for certain that a recovery works as well since:
"Nobody wants backup, everybody wants recovery" -
Hello, I am a starter programmer. I don’t know too much about programming, just a few things. Do you know a course or any website that can help me learning to code? Thank you!11

So I'm on my IT leave and I've got some programming skills too but idk what to do with my life because it's too much of a drag seeking for IT centres. Any ideas?7

So we got the results of our performance review got another fucking 3 again this year, what a fucking piss take, I feel fucking insulted, having to much work to do is not my fault. Oh I haven’t documented something properly because I had to start on something else and something else oh and this is a fucking priority too, talk about feeling unappreciated don’t think I have ever wanted to quit more in the 18 years I’ve worked there. I let the last 3 slide because things suffered while I was off work as my son had an operation but this is just insulting now

Spring roo by a country fucking mile, it tries to do too much magic under the bonnet, it creates files which if you modify it gg from me and gg from him (two Ronnie's), if you generate html forms with it takes less than half a beer to either SQL inject or xss it and worst of all it has one of those names that no-one can take seriously.
My advice avoid it like the syphilitic donkey it is. -
Let's say, one of your female friends loves you. But she's too shy to tell you.
But now when her family is forcing her to get married, she explained her other female friend about you, how much she loves you and she's looking for you in each guy and so on. And somehow that female friend tells you what she told her about you, that she loves you but she knows that you wouldn't accept her feelings.
Now, what would you do?21 -
Do any of you fine people work somewhere where salaries are transparent?
By which I mean, everyone knows (or is able to find out) what everyone else earns
If so, how does it work? Whilst I'm not too bothered how much my colleagues earn (unless it's an order of magnitude more than me or something), I know some people definitely would be4 -
Ubuntu 🤬
only releasing amd64 image !! , supporting an instruction set architecture does not mean code is optimised for other microarchitecture
i thought linux distributions are do less and do way better than others, so why so much bloatware!!!.
ideally best way is to compile your own kernel and add minimal gui support as required, too much work !!!
also just a heads-up if you are using Catalina use virtual-box 6.0.22
also vivado 2019.2 is suable with ubuntu 18.04 + lightdm , remove that gnome shit15 -
So I observed that my screen time was slowly increasing in past few weeks. This was mainly because there wasn't much to do staying at home and I was simply switching between phone and laptop continuously which was increasing my eye strain. Fed up of this never ending cycle I decided yesterday to log out of all social networks and only see all the social updates only once a day.
Let's hope this gradually decreases my screen time and eye strain too... -
Just created a community to talk about legacy codebases. It's r/legacydev.
At this point I have no idea what to do now. I feel that the world already has too much stuff and too many disengaged communities.4 -
[Tied to my latest rant]
My parents asking me to help them with their computers is the same thing as if I asked my mom to tour me on a country she doesn't know anything about or if I asked my dad to teach me how to pilot a plane (my mom is a tour guide and my dad a driving instructor. I believe the only thing he can't teach is actually how to pilot a plane :b): sometimes it takes too much time and effort and you can't do it. -
Appraisals are pretty insightful times. I wanted to check how much work I do as compared to others in the team. So, I tried to pull up number of pull requests created by me and others in the team. And to my surprise, I create 4x(I created about 850 pull requests) more pull requests than the next contributor(200 pull requests). I knew in general I was doing more work and much faster, but this is just too much.
I know number of pull requests is not an indicator for the amount of work done by anybody, but I had this feeling as well that I was doing more than others. I often see other members of the team not putting that much effort, and rather have a relaxed approach to getting work done. They pick one ticket and take the whole week to complete it slowly. While I hustle to get as much done as possible.
As far as the appraisals go, I am kind of laid back in terms of contributing towards overall organization which is now getting more weighted for my appraisal. So, despite me doing quite a lot of work, I am getting the appraisal at par with others in the team.
So, its kind of feels a little bit uncomfortable.3 -
I want to learn a new front and back end webdev language. So far, I've found Dart and TypeScript (though this one is not completely new to me) on the front end side, and Go, Elixir and Rust on the back end side. As I don't have too much free time, I can choose one of both sides for now, but I can't decide which ones to go with, since I can read so many pro-contra opinions.
I only need to choose for the skill, I don't have any specific target, I just want to learn new stuff.
Which ones do you suggest? -
Man, I love having a software factory. Every day something different. Today I'm developing with Laravel, and it's an honest framework. It doesn't do anything too much or anything less. Just enough.
It's good to use things that know their place.1 -
Experience, intuition and 50-200% risk premium.
For me it is important to not put too much effort in it, as the developer estimation is usually mangled through sales and management anyway and doesn't have much to do with the final price.
And as nobody really bases internal budget and schedule on it as well, it's kind of pointless in most cases. -
So I had this Case tools lab during my 5th semester of college and they asked everyone to do a project. Me hoping that they will see the project and appreciate the work, did a good one and I spent day and night on it. Then came the finals. The fucking teacher who was asked to evaluate me didn't even open my project properly and just entered the marks just seeing the home page. It was that fucking day that I hated my college so much. Now I don't spend too much time on projects for my college. Worst Dev experience!

Well I might be asking too much, but is it possible to get a mentor for free in learning android development and perhaps get help from him/her to land a job?
About me: I'm an undergraduate student, currently unable to get a job because of COVID-19. I have experience in Programming problem solving. I also do android development for about 2 years and have 2 apps published in google play store.rant google android developer internship job mentorship mentor developer course android development android free mentorship4 -
this is just the funniest thing ever whenever I try to use a DesktopEnviroment I always endup dragging
my mouse to try to get to a diffrent virtual desktop do I use tiling window managers too much q: -
Every time someone asks too many things to get the job. Like knowledge of commonly used platforms yet they expect you to know many of the fashionable technologies like node, angular etc. All these for junior developers. And all they want in the end is to make you make payed plugins yourself instead of just purchasing the existing ones.
This makes me thinking, is it me as just an average web developer that needs to learn everything, or is it just them that they just want to pay less to do much more?1 -
Hey fellow c++ devs, i have a question. I am currently working for a company that has a system with more than 300 000 thousand lines of maintained code and it is written in C++03. A lot of it utilises boost and custom performance work arounds and migration is currently out of the question, but I would really love to see some Cpp11 sugar in the code-base. I know there might not be too much business value to this potential endevour, but what do you think?1
-
When your coding test was very easy but you know you were too much of a dumb fuck at that very moment to do well
-
Idk if this is the right place to ask but I thought Of this and my parents are sick of trying to satisfy me and they said they don’t even know what I’m asking. I know this is an extremely dumb question. Hypothetically, if a plane full of billionaires carrying only cash crashes mysteriously and cannot be found, now that the money is lost, what happens in the economy. Like how do the banks know how much money is gone and what do they do about it. Like mass inflation? Why can’t they just print an approximate Amount of money to fill up the system again, and if so what happens when they find the plane in a hundred years and the money comes back cuz now we have too much? This all came from wondering how they put the new coins with the kings face in without making the economy blow up, like I would assume they take the same amount of money that are idk too old or something and replace it with the same amount of new money but in that case how do they know and what do they do with the old coins now that they’re out of circulation. If anyone can answer my questions pls help. I might reply to your answer with more questions sorry lmao.10

Once upon a time I was working with an engineer who loved sed and awk a bit too much. We had data stored in SharePoint that was retrievable via an RSS feed. Said engineer insisted on using curl to grab the feed and sed/awk to parse the HTML ...
I on the other hand suggested using libcurl (primarily for NTLM auth support) and parsing the RSS feed using libxml.
Which engineer do you think management decided supporting?
Hint: Reusability and maintainability were big requirements in this project.1 -
Daily coding would be VS Code.
> Lots of extensions and works well if the project isn't too big.
Quick and cheeky edits is Notepad++.
> "Open in Notepad++"
Serverside edits is vim.
> I don't really know any other terminal editors.
IDE would be the IntelliJ platform.
> Its just built very nicely.
For SQL (which i don't do very much) I took a liking to Azure Data Studio. -
Sometimes I wonder we make too much or at least the devs at corps.... (Not a bad thing...)
But compared to everyone else like chefs, teachers, builders, scientists, etc that actually need to revert physical labor... We just push buttons all day or half the day...
Just looking over this month's income... Basically only spent 10%...
An I really worth that much... To me the work I do isn't hard... Or don't see how it connected to the bottom line...11 -
Today I visited my ex-employer's company website and then checked what is new and what is still same. I was chatbot developer. Then after some hours one colleague(he also left there) told me that our old employer called him and was angry about what did we do. That friend is fullstack dev and I don't know much about those stuffs too. But while surfing the website, I tried to use their platform but couldn't because it didn't give me any resoonse.
So either the employer is dumb, or fullstack dev did something f*kstack and it is broken by just clicking 'login as guest' and receiving nothing. What do you think?
