When our sales guy came by for the 200000000000th time on a day to boast about how good he advised someone on a sales related matter.
Mate, we're Linux engineers and currently trying to fix shit up so why don't you get yourself a cup of shut the fuck up.5 -
It doesn't matter what I'm programming in, every time my wife sees me writing code she'll tell me "I think you forgot a semi-colon there".
I guess it was funny the first 3 times, but after 10 years, every day?22 -
GF: Why are working so late?
Me: Because no matter what I do, everything is working correctly.
GF: What....
The only career when you have to work late because everything is working like it should (cannot reproduce an issue).19 -
Hey frontend developers. If you do THIS:
z-index: 1000;
...expecting that it will ensure your div will be on top no matter what, I'm about to fuck your world up. Check this shit out:
z-index: 1001;7 -
- Open your terminal, you're a hacker
- Reinstall Windows, your aunt will be happy

Hey Mm...Morty. What are you doing?
Oh gee Rick, I’m just...you know...using Linux and telling the internet how that makes me better than them.
Morty, you rr...realize that it...it...doesn’t matter what OS you use Morty. Y...y...you’re still a piece of shit Morty. I can prove it...burp...mathematically Morty. In the grand scheme of the universe...y...y...you are a bubble sort algorithm surrounded by quick sorts Morty.
Oh gee Rick.14 -
So today I got removed from my freelance project because the client found out I listen to slipknot! What the actual FUCK? How the FUCK does it matter what I listen to?
And that cunt eater isn't willing to pay for the work I've already completed since "Slipknot is anti-Christian".
Burn in hell you piece of shit.21 -
"Only stay late at work when it makes sense to, otherwise always leave on time. There's always going to be work left, no matter how much you get done in one day."
Best advice ever.
Edit: I have to say it was during my first week in my first recent grad job.2 -
When you can't take part in the new avatar shirts (or any avatar swag for that matter) because you mostly lurk and hardly ever rant...7
-
There is one thing I have seen here in devRant. No matter how stupid rant you post no one trolls you. People are kind of humble here. They try to help you.
Just an observation, may not be true.10 -
Always be humble and always keep learning. No matter how good you get, there is always some better.4

Programs are like women,
No matter how much you get mad because of errors,
You're always the one who's wrong ..8 -
This is for all the developers out there. Keep learning and keep going!

CSS is an awesome language. It only takes you a few years of practice to be able to style a minimalist website in a matter of days.3

Remove the egos, and then read other people codes, it doesn't matter their codes are good or bad, you can still learn from it.

Looking at code in our workplace.. I realized one thing. Like Devops, legacy code is actually a mindset.
So here goes my thought:
A piece of code is not legacy because it was written ten years ago.
A piece of code is legacy because it looks like a piece of legacy code.
With the legacy code mindset, you end up writing legacy code no matter where you are, when you wrote it.
I was looking at some part of our code which we written in just the last few months, and I can’t help but think that they were legacy, so it really doesn’t matter when it was written!
It is more about how you write your code that determines whether it is legacy :)
Hopefully this was not crazily confusing anyone. Have a good day guys & gals!7 -
a friend just asked for good games that are ftp
i said why does the way you download a game matter. 🤦♂️7 -
When you start typing localhost but you are to fast and to furious for the browsers autocomplete and end up searching in google for this...
So far no one has notice but it is only a matter of time before I will be questioned about my Shakira obsession...4 -
I will disregard the fact that our target platform is windows, so sure, newly hired intern, go ahead and use linux if you want, it doesnt really matter.
After that he accomplished 1 day's work in a week because he was googling how to set up linux environments

"Why do you think we should delay launching the new site?"
Because it's late afternoon on a Friday.
"So? What does it matter?"
Here's a bunch of good reasons.

That moment when you get stressed because you think you've overslept but then realize that you work from home so it doesn't matter2

Oh god, my first proper rant...
Ok, I am finally fucking sick of all these people shit talking game engines because some people make shitty games with them.
What does it matter what game engine someone uses, unreal engine, game maker, unity, it doesn't matter what you use.
If you think an engine is shit, make your own engine from scratch with all your code, Jesus Christ people -.-10 -
Headhunter: So how many years of experience do you have with X?
Me: Why does it matter? I have been a software engineer for a decade, I can pick up anything in a matter of weeks.

Most painful dev learning experience?
Learned that no matter hard you work, no matter how big the dragon you slain/slew, there are individuals out there waiting to tear you down. Not immediately, certainly not in front of you, and capable of going to extremes just to make themselves feel/look better.7 -
First rule of Apple beta software: do not talk about Apple beta software.
It doesn’t matter, that there’s PUBLIC beta. You cannot talk about it, cause you violate some idiotic NDA. And then, we get software that looks and works like everyone sees now.
Eat shit, Apple. And all of your fanboys.3 -
Why would someone in the fucking year of 2018 use fucking IE and only IE?
People need to understand that the sole purpose of IE is to download chrome🤣😂
No matter the framework/language you use it is guaranteed to crash in IE.
It's gonna be a glorious day😂15 -

Met a student who has failed and appearing for re-exam.
Me: You need to work hard to get distinction (~85%).
He: Who wants distinction? I just need passing marks (35). Marks doesn't matter, knowledge does.
Me: Student who strives for more knowledge will surely get distinction.
He: 🤔8 -
Dev: My VM is not working. Something is wrong with VM.
Me: Have you made any changes to the code?
Dev: It shouldn't matter my VM is not working.

The "Change Password" function autofilled the old password. Dev told be it didn't matter because "if you set the field type to password you can't see it".4

Helpful tip to all you freelancers or those with the authority:
Never let a client dictate anything in how you do your job, no matter how simple.
Even if they ask you to make yourself available at a specific time, don't. Instead, tell them times you have available so they have to work with you.
If you give a client an inch, they will always take a mile.3 -
Yesterday I had to ask a classmate what the arguments of a method were (no documentation).
He said: "Uhmm it doesn't matter in which order you put the arguments into the method?"
No more to say.5 -
Doesn’t matter how much experience you have, there’s always a new rake to smack you in the face. 🤣

When your specs simply won't run new code no matter what you do, non-conditioned (and unmodified) calls don't get called, and 2+2 somehow equals Q, you know it's time to give up and restart the simulation by going to bed.

Dev: You’ll want to store money values such as $2001.01 as 200121 when using javascript.
Manager: Why? That’s stupid.
Dev: Javascript doesn’t behave with decimals the way you think. It’ll show up as $2001.01000001 when you least expect it
Manager: Well I’ve never had that issue before! Besides that’s only a fraction of a cent off, that won’t even matter!
Dev: … literally the plot of office space but ok21 -

That awkward situation when an instructor looks over your shoulder while you code
Instructor: *breathes over my shoulder*
Me:*slows down coding and eventually stops*
Instructor: ...
Me: ...
Instructor: ...Is something the matter?
Me: *screams internally*
I respect the teacher but having him do that is not good for my heart :/2 -
"I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing it out"
Yes, and I'm going to point out that you're throwing insults around like a maniac, which makes your "opinion" seem emptier and emptier, until it resembles your cerebral matter as if it was a shadow copy of it. Fuck you.1 -
I still nuke Ctrl + S so often while coding/editing a document that I sometimes think i'm just borderline maniac. This is one of those paranoid habits that has stuck with me since my early coding days, despite a majority of editors having auto save enabled. What other weird/awkward habits do you have that you cannot get rid of no matter what?10

Worst codding interruptions? That's easy: fucking meetings.
You know they're coming up. They start to drain your focus. You double check the clock/start time. You ask yourself if you were supposed to prepare anything. You typically waste an hour of your time over something that could have been a fucking e-mail (or doesn't even matter at all). You come back to your desk, and your focus is broken and you wonder when the next meeting is coming up.2 -
Twitch Developer Rig sucked hard and was cropping my extension down to 300px high no matter if it was “panel” which should be this high or everything else.
So I posted to their forum and they committed a fix MINUTES later.

Tools don't matter. Use what is comfortable and don't listen to all the brand, OS, editor and tabs/spaces crap. Biggest challenge was to accept that no matter where you go, what you do, you will have to deal with stupid people.
They come in all ranges, starting from hr, interns, juniors, coworkers, code reviewers, seniors, managers, boss, clients.
And in order to grow in life, you have to learn to deal with them. Better even if you could make them a little less stupid.2 -

Top three reasons why I love to code:
1) People will think you are a wizard and feel so afraid of you that they call you nerd and give you a office in a cold basement (especially good in summer times)
2) Your friends call you for every problem they have with their computer and will give you a few bucks or beers in exchange.
3) You can rant about technical stuff and no matter how unfounded the rant is, your non-tech friends will believe everything you say.2 -

That feeling of regret after you get a not-so-good grade in a class because you were too advanced in the subject matter. Doesn't matter if you know a lot of programming languages. There is no greater satisfaction than when you write your first "hello world" in a new language.6
-
I didn't think this were true when I started out programming in the field, but now that I've been working for a few years, I've discovered this:
While your technical expertise does matter, it does not weigh as hard through as how likeable you are; that's right, likeable. You can be an idiot, yet if you make people like you and pull the right strings, people will think you're this grand genius (while you're not!). How perception matters..
Soft skills matter somewhat, but I discovered they can make or break it. I noticed people like to be idiots and frolic around instead of taking things seriously that need to be taken seriously.
Here I am, with my expertise. People don't like me - and it makes them judge me the wrong way, like I'm stupid. Yes, imagine that, you with more skills, being looked at as stupid by idiots with little the fewer skills.
It would be neat if I were valued for my skills, not how much someone likes me!
This industry is... disappointing.10 -
This wasnt i thing i learned, rather a thing i taught someone.
It doesnt matter that you are in love with x language and you want to devote your life to it if the industry adapted something else, you will have to compromise.

!rant is a logic operator, right? As in NOT rant. So why do I so often see them on actual rants?

Why is this a thing?8 -
How many of you actually study without any sort of aiding substance such as coffee or vitamin pills? I do, for instance.
I don't use any aid but it makes it more difficult sometimes. I just eat wholesome food and work out to make my brain have enough energy to process difficult matter.30 -
It’s been almost 2 years since I left US. But damn, is America now so bitterly partisan? No matter what you say or do, half the country hates you.25

My dad: I don't know why you like programming... you write lines of meaningless things, there is no logic behind.
Me: ...Actually, it's not true... ehm... it doesn't matter... (in my mind: you would not understand)1 -
From a few years of programming experience, I come to know that "we cannot write perfect code."
What I mean by this is no matter how perfectly you write code, but if you have a peek on that code after about 3 months, you will be like, "I could have done a lot of things in a better way." Provided the code is atleast of 100 lines. -
For some reason, Tableau is really heavy. I mean, all reporting software is a little bullshit, but Tableau... The server we had took 45 minutes to restart (no exaggerating - we timed it).
Reading the log files, yes, it WAS doing shit the whole time. Lots of shit. It seemed to be running just... Tons of software.
Tableau seemed to be aware of this because they have a page where you can check the status of everything. I assume that starts up first.
If you're looking into Tableau, two things to consider:
1) No, your braindead financial manager won't be making their own visualizations, no matter how many times the marketing team writes "drag and drop" on the Tableau website.
2) You'll make some nice visualizations but find that when you try to do more complex things, you run into constant roadblocks. If your manager asks "can you make it do x"? No matter how much experience you have, your answer can never be 100% "yes"... Or even "no" for that matter.
Not the worst experience with enterprise software, but definitely a surprisingly bad experience. -

Seriously ... People are everywhere, here. It is surety that you will get to see some or many people, no matter where you are. Park, Jungle, Mountain, River bed, Abandoned Land, Osama's bunker, House with annabelle ghost, Cloud, Space, Other planet .... damn
That way I am only helping mankind and nature. And then I will get nominated for Nobel Prize too.3 -
Not really in work as a job, these people inspired me rather in lifestyle and thinking: (these are not quotes!!)
Richard Stallman - you can't be sure the program isn't harmful unless you see and understand the code.
Linus Torvalds - doesn't matter if you like the person or not, let the code speak for him/her.
Raymond Hettinger - there are both stupid and smart people. It doesn't matter. What matters is asking the right questions and providing clean and explaining answers. -
No matter the hard work you want to do, how much time you want and really spend to complete something, always a scumbag project manager will set the dates so that you won't make it in f*ing time!! Really now, it is frustrating!!
Well, I moved to a new company and all seems vanilla. But you know. Now I have this lesson to remind myself.4 -
Ugh, doing laundry sucks. Partially because the laundry area is adjacent to the living room and that makes it harder to hear stranger things, but mostly because it signals the end of the weekend. But I decided to be positive and share some positivity with you:
No matter what challenges you will face in the next week, you can do it. The Universe/God/The Flying Spaghetti Monster chose you to face the challenges because you can do. If the universe can believe in you, then so can I. And so should you. Get out there and rock fellow DevRanters!!! -
Mobile App Development vs. Web Development as a career? It doesn't matter. Do your job well. Sometimes, you can't control where they put you.
-
good evening folks,
im living in germany and want to get my first domain...
should i use ". de" or ". com", what would you prefer?
It should be an portfolio of myself if i finished it.
We have people from around the world here, how are you handling this? Does it matter at all?
thanks for help.7 -
GOD I FUCKING HATE UNITY AND FUCKING C# SO MUCH
EVERY TIME I TRY TO MAKE IT DO WHAT I FUCKING WANT IT TO IT'S LIKE "mmmmmm nah lmao" LIKE FUCK WHY CAN'T YOU JUST FOLLOW FUCKING 3 LINES OF CODE NO MATTER HOW I PUT THEM OR ORDER THEM YOU BRAINDEAD FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT PROGRAM4 -
ESNext (next version of JavaScript) — because no matter what I do, as long as I'm working with web technologies, JavaScript is king. My career has evolved from UI-focused work, primarily working with JavaScript, yet I've also worked on embedded platforms and even operating systems! JavaScript is my foundation and you must always remember your roots!1

One good thing about working at a shitty place is you end up knowing what not to do by just pure pain.
I once consulted for a company who had the latest tech - kubernetes, bit bucket, you name it. But it didn't matter. The code was shit. It's not about the tech, it's always about the people that use the tech.5 -
still the most humiliating thing in the world is being interviewed by someone half your age for a job that is beneath you and being expected to answer their cookie cutter questions.
'how would you handle this'... well. first I'd start by putting my cock up their ass, and then when they said ow, i'd ask what was the matter....
HOW THE FUCK DO YOU THINK I'D HANDLE IT ! JESUS CHRIST !4 -
y'know it's nice to know that no matter what happens, some things in life never change. even if you want them to.
like no matter who you are, or what you're doing, SELinux will always be there to ruin your life....4 -
* at DrupalCamp *
"Now, you can use our all-in-one .exe to install Apache and MySQL on your computer"
ME: but why would someone do that?
"In order to use the LAMP architecture"
ME: But there's no Linux!
"It doesn't matter, Apache runs on windows just fine"
ME: Feels kinda like using Express on Python4 -
When the anti-tech departments pretend that remote work don't exist and annoy people about things that really don't matter, specially when you are not in the office. Like massage chairs or birthday cakes for someone you never/hardly ever met.
(bullshit departments like celebrations, facilities, marketing, culture, I swear I'm not making those up)3 -
An application requiring lots of servers to handle the workload is not the problem.
The problem is an application that cannot handle workload no matter how many servers you throw at it.2 -
You know what the worst type of screwups are? Those that have already happened but you don't know about yet.
There you are, coasting along, thinking everything's OK, blissfully unaware that you're fucked. And no matter what you do, you're still fucked. -
Its so disheartening to see how easily replacable you are if you work for someone else, no matter how hard you worked. The moment you say " I am resigning", the behaviour of your manager changes so dramatically. Its like you don't exist anymore. No more new interesting work, no nothing. Why!!!!7
-
If you ever think you are useless, remember there is a language change option on Fast.com.
It even has UK and US English variant.10 -
No matter how much fancy stuff you use, next flashy framework to abuse, or whatever shitty js you produce
css will haunt you ...
and fuck you. horribly.3 -
What are your guys thoughts on Stackoverflow? I feel like no matter what I say on there, whether it be a question, comment, answer, it’s never good enough for someone. Everyone there just seems so rude for no reason. Do you guys have the same experiences? Just curious if it’s only me or it is like this for everyone.14

made my first dart server today, i already fucking love it!
i already used it for flutter, and previous node.js was my backend of choice.
i'd recommend strongly. no matter the platform for the frontend, web or mobile (or desktop app), you can use dart, and you can use it for the backend too!
it's like java but not shit.3 -
0) Because it's kind of Magic.
1) Love solving complex/small problem using this magic.
2) It's frustrating as well as exciting when magic is not working.
So yea it's kinda magical and doesn't matter which language you do magic in. -
Why everyone in management wants to know how i solve the bug if you do not even know what is Bootstrap. All that matter is fucking bug is resolved PERIOD

When your retirement estimates says no matter what, you'll be earning more than you do now when you retire... -
Setting up npm private registry and mirror is like setting up machine for handling ddos attack.
Last time I was tuning linux kernel tcp ip stack by adjusting default variable values was ages ago but if you see 100 open sockets in a matter of second after you try to install single frontend dependency you start questioning your life. -
I'm just wondering how many developers is tire of people asking them to build a complete custom site in WordPress. And when you tell them "hey Fucker it would be faster and work better if we just build this cms from scratch" but the client won't budge they want fucking WordPress no matter what...10
-
That javascript ecosystem is pretty fucking neat.
Yea we got problem with certain tools like `npm`, but threw is so much shit that comes out, in a matter of month you have solutions springing up for those obstacles.
Its pretty fucking beautiful ;) -
Happy New year
May you have a year that is filled with love and bugs, laughter and debugging , brightness and dark theme , hope and distro hopping and little less windows vs linux shit 😂 please arch guys you too 🙄😝
Wish you all a great year 😅😛
I rarely post anything but I'm pretty active reading every shit post here. we fucking have a great community here. Few people are going through some real shit , hey you, things will get better don't lose hope but don't just wait on it , things don't ever get better by just wishing. Do what has to be done no matter how hard that decision can be.
Cut all those toxic people from your life doesn't matter who they're. You all deserve better
Believe in yourself. Everyone is going through some real shit. Keep fighting. Live for yourself.
You got only one life live upto your fill potential.
Regret is the worst thing so do whatever the fuck you want to do.
Never give up doesn't matter what you're going through.
And in the end may you "live" all the days of your life. -

[JS]
Which one do you think is faster? Pushing callbacks to an array and iterating them when they're due, or this:
const oldcb = cb;
cb = () => { someNewStuff(); oldcb(); }
The callbacks can never be removed and will finish fast, their order shouldn't matter.8 -

I have developed a talent for detecting Indian tutorials. It doesn't matter, I'll obviously still watch if their accent isn't really thick (and they don't use Hinglish!) But I just can tell.
Something about their choice of design in presentation is distinct and when you see it... The accent isn't far away.3 -

"so what's the difference? there are groups and communities for devs, why devRant ?" It was my colleague's question and I was about to loose the debate between this and other social n/w.

And he said "Let me see your profile."4 -

And please a real-world language, let Haskell stay in its Ivory-tower where it belongs.11 -
How do you define a junior/senior dev?
I've been a professional developer for about 5/6 years now.
Would taking a "junior" role be a step down? Or does the term not really matter?3 -
Why? Why?
Of you, you were the last I've expected such failure and misery...
Not once, not twice, but I have you a chance so many fucking times...
I won't deny it, we've been through good times, done so may things together, and I admit that I'd never be able to work without you.... this codependence is just too damn fixated...
But, I think I should part ways with you, I'll visit sometimes, not just to have fun, but mostly because of work matter.

Guys, just a question. Let say in a company either your boss, senior or manager who always wants to win a conversation no matter what the issue is and whoever is at fault.
e.g.
Me: Roasters can't lay eggs
Boss: Yes they can
....
(After few minutes you are bore and want to end the conversation)
Me: Yes, yes fucken Roasters can lay eggs. You are right. Now fuck off.
Question Again:
Will you work for someone who wants to win the conversation?2 -
Guys! Have you ever been so roasted with your family conversation that you are really pissed off but there's no way out. The matter of dignity you know. But guess what... The topic going on is Python! Don't need a way out🙄😛5

Hey all! Ironically, last time I posted here was when I got my first job in the industry. It doesn't matter what you think you fucking moron. The bottom line here is that you forgot to add a master table for this and you are asking to create a master table from me when I have no fucking records, YOU THINK you need it today but deep down you too know that is fucking impossible to do.
"Only some code modification"

CW:"Yes, tell me."
ME:" Because, they don't matter!"1 -

And that, folks, is why you never do a rush job, no matter how urgent, without an RFP and answering estimate followed by a signed statement of work confirming agreement to the estimate. No matter how much you trust your client or believe they will do right by you, process still matters.2

You ever feel like it doesn't really matter what you learn, you'll never get anywhere because politics, etc? That's kind of how I'm feeling now. I've been using my time unemployed to teach myself new things, but it's not really helpful when it comes to finding another job. My personal savings can keep me going for about a year, I think. I'd rather not have to test it though.1

FUCK GOOGLE'S INSTANT APPS.
I know google is bad in general, but fuck Instant Apps in particular!
Doesn't matter if you've disabled them from every account you have, they will still update and install themselves no matter what! Doesn't matter if you're on wifi or on a mobile connection using data either!
What's even worse is that there is no trace given of these update - just a temporary notification while it's downloading and installing the update, then it's gone! Blink and you'll miss it.
Can't even get rid of this shite, because I have a few accounts tied to a project that are entirely based on google services :(

I feel the need for a personal AI is real. I mean at this stage of my life I feel replacing humans around/close to me with a strong AI.
The idea is kinda creation of a strong AI but control its learning ability limited to one user.
Pros:
You have someone who understands you completely.
Knows what/how to talk no matter How's your mood.
Could be used to calm down the user even in critical situations.
Besides, if something doesn't workout just fucking tweak the code its yours no matter what the fuck you do with it.
Do I make sense??3 -
Since we have apple vision pro you can walk around with in public and AI where you can swap parts of people it’s just a matter of time when someone make application where you walk around and see people naked or hide ads.

Im beginning to think im stuck in an infinite loop of learning. This fucking bullshit never stops. I just continuously keep learning new shit and the more shit i learn the more i realize how much bullshit i still have to learn
It creates an illusion as if i know nothing
Just when i thought i see the end of the horizon and reach it only then i realize it just keeps on going into oblivion, as a sphere
Its like im trying to catch and find a corner of a sphere
There aint none
Its pointless
Is it also pointless to keep learning like this?
Perhaps this whole existence is pointless
Real talk now whats the point of existence bro
No matter what you do or dont do it doesnt matter
No matter if you're successful or not it doesnt matter
No matter if you learn all the bullshit in the world you're still gonna die and it wont matter
No matter how much i learn, it still and will always appear as if its not enough to these shitface recruiters and companies, to them it doesnt matter
Nothing matters. Everything is empty and meaningless. The entire life itself is. I dont value life. I dont care if i live or die. I feel no joy when i succeed and i feel no sadness when i fail
The tiny little bit of joy or success cannot outweight the years of sadness depression emptiness and failure the life has dumped onto me in spite of my hard work and continuous learning
Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh20 -
You can't have things quickly and also ask everyone in the building for their opinion on those things at the same time. It just doesn't work that way, no matter how much you want to be liked.
They're called priorities, not equalities. -
Hey DevRant fam, i'm curious to know, if you had to use a programming language you haven't used in a good long time, such as c++ or any language for that matter, what would be your method to be getting back into that language again?

Boss!!!
Boss isn't a person.
It's not a name.
It's a feeling.
It's an emotion.
It's something that you are afraid of even in ur dreams.
It's something that pushes you, shouts at you, criticises you, shouts at you again, but at the end he gives you appreciation, money and fame(sometimes).
No matter how shitty the pay is, it is something. Better than nothing.
If you don't like it, go to another boss.
or better
BE YOUR OWN BOSS.2 -

I don't know why but I think that I'm the only one that doesn't like material design. I get the concept and can see why Google came up with the whole material design thing, but it doesn't move me, no matter how clever it is.
Am I right? Do you hate material design too? Although hate is a strong word, so should I ask are you ambivalent to it too?3 -
You ever try looking something up to solve a problem
And then, out of thin air,

Even if they were confirmed imposters, does it matter? If you wanna stay, stay and go with the flow. If you wanna go, just go. I've had lots of friends who were actually imposters, and this developed my imposter syndrome, but in the end I found that it doesn't matter; if you enjoy their presence, stay. If you don't, leave them.

For me it's definitely teaching. Whether I teach coding or any mathematical or even theoretical subjects. I find that when you teach someone you learn how to communicate better and transfer knowledge effectively. Communication is key in client relationships.
Secondly when you teach someone a concept you think you understand you tend to find flaws in the way you understand that subject matter by forcing you to hear your explanation out loud. This in turn will make you delve deeper into that subject matter and make you understand it better, rearranging your own perceptions and correcting those flaws. -

It's not like you need most of the F# keys anyway you can just as well have the functional keys without this abomination.. or here's one: how about making a fucking mapping hm? To inventor of fn key: "You can suck my balls!"1 -
Trying to change security settings for Internet Explorer in a Windows Server is so 😫.
I just want to download a simple file from email.
What would I do that on a server you may ask.
Well is just a virtual machine in a testing environment, so it doesn't matter.1 -
I would like to ask you fellow devs how many books you have read.
No matter the subject, length, medium, or reason for it. Of course I am asking for an approximate number, I'm not asking you to count your books.
I am asking bc I once heard that people that have read more books, are generally more successful in their career.7 -
Many years in the same company waiting for an improvement in my career. Result: role change from Solution Manager to ICT consultant (better before) and Salary increase of 20% (better now). I simply do not understand my company behavior. Happy and Sad at the same time. What do you think? Titles do matter or not?

I DESPISE languages that enforce a style on you because "muh community code consistency". Like ok, I understand it, but if it gets to a point where I cannot configure *MY* IDE to format *MY* code the way I want I'm gonna get pissed at you. Why does it matter to you if my project uses 2 or 4 spaces? At least give me the option to disable your fucking formatter and use my IDE's default one.
Fuck you Dart.10 -
colleague's constant whispering across whole office 😏 he won't shut up no matter what you say to him...
only music to the rescue here 🤘🎧1 -
I've spent a whole day writing date helpers that already exist in moment.js and cover many more cases than mine.
Webpack tree shaking is a thing, you know? Library size doesn't matter anymore <__< -

Yoo fellow devs... And sysAdmins??
We're tasked with migrating our apps from current HP UX server to RHEL...
Most of our apps run on Tomcat 7 and weblogic...
We also have Oracle DB Enterprise Edition...
Just wondering if any of you out there from the stone age have done this recently... Any tips.. Warnings... Advice on the matter?? -

I *hate* cmd+z in Atlassian Wikis… it removes text that was written ages ago… and you never get it back… no matter how many times you press cmd+shift+z or cmd+y… 😡

No matter how hard you try to cover every requirement, there will always be at least one you missed, if not 100.

No matter how hard you try to stick magnet with a wood it just won’t work out in any way.
i hope its possible to change the wood into metal just like as easy as type-casting an integer into string, but it just won’t happen anyway~~2 -
Brush up on languages/technologies the company is using/what the job post is for. Say what u like/dislike about those technologies. Most importantly, know that even though you will have many bad days, it only takes 1 good day for none of those to matter!!

Disclaimer: I haven't done much research.
Do you have any good course / tutorial / guide to using Web Sockets with PHP or Node? I'm looking forward to knowing about the matter but I'm just asking here before just in case someone has a good / recommended resource.7 -
I've worked with SWIFT for a good amount of time. I can't say that I'm a great developer in the language or any language for that matter but I think I should learn PYTHON first. What do you guys think?

This is a TypeScript question, but that shouldn't matter.
Would you use dependency injection to get access to your controllers inside your router files, or would you just import them?2 -
Fucking rounding I hate you, trying to write sales figures to an accounting system API that is using some kind of fucked up rounding method that will not balance no matter what I do. Agghh1

Why does it matter if I scroll my mouse with my middle finger?
You keep using your index finger while I stick with my middle finger.4 -
Life is tough when you get angry at bubbles in stickers that were poorly placed, but you, yourself, place stickers really poorly. No matter how hard I try fixing them, it's no use...

List the top books you consider fundamental to your software engineering knowledge and abilities. A book that really made you improve. Anything, up to you. The point is that without it you would be worse off.
Any topic. Systems design, DSA, security, architecture, doesn’t matter.6 -
Spent months writing up a model and fine tuning, trained on complex image data (all we had to work with), to work well with what it needed to do.
Only to have “subject matter experts” be like: why don’t you use PCA and K Nearest Neighbours.
The fuck do you think the baseline was written with? -
since we have go mod I believe that if you are doing microservices or fracturing a monolith app into microservices for that matter, you rather have a monorepo. I'm finding really useful to do `import ("backend/monolith" "backend/notify")` and such than sharing protobuf files by copying with some Makefile target.

Optics matter. You could be doing a shit job (as a developer), but if you keep up the good optics with the boss, agreeing to build a calculus app in the future, even though the multiplication api you are currently working on keeps throwing error, you'll look good.2

Got a Job lately and therefore three Interviews.
In two of them was a question about SQL Injektion and no matter what teck stack you apply for that's the time to mention PHP :P1 -
Dont be a dev if it affects your own well being in any way, most of the reasons given by other people here are in some way about a person's character affecting others. If it makes you happy, gets you money and gives your life a purpose then others opinions shouldn't even matter.
