I'm creating a website and I'm thinking: Wow, I use html, css, javacript and python, I'm awesome! Then I see what other people know: shit, I'm not awesome...

Got rid of Facebook for personal reasons...spending more time on devrant and much more happy :) less politics!2

No one is going to hold your hand in the real world.
Now go on and fuck up some more so you can learn more.3 -
I see software engineering mostly devolving to be simpler syntax, more widespread and reach more range of people, including non-tech ones.
That’s now obviously leading to more crappy javascript code, more abandoned frameworks, libraries, more shitty software and more dev rants.5 -
Learning a new language is like first time doing sex, it's hard at the beginning but when you start doing it right you just want more and more! :) good morning guys !!4
-
1. Try to stay sane in startup chaos
2. Use more vacation days
3. Separate work and free time a bit more
4. Get out into nature more
5. Hire 50+ good developers & get company to 15M active end users while doing all of the above5 -
Started using Vim and the more i use it, the more using regular editors feels like a waste of time.34

I created website for a client, with sleek material design.
He told me that the website was too flat and needed more shadows and gradients to make it more modern and 3D.8 -
I forced myself to use git on my latest projects. And the more I use it, the more I love it. I can relate to all the git-love here on devRant.21

I think we're going two sides:
For one, more and more technology is being developed/engineered which is even more and more and more intrusive as for personal privacy, I'm genuinely worried how this'll go as privacy isn't just a about not exposing certain things like passwords/bank account details and so on, it's also about being an individual who has their own thoughts, opinions and so on. If we keep taking that away more and more often, society will change and go towards the Orwell scenario (we're on our way there right now). We can change this as software/design/server engineers but that's up to us and I sadly don't see that happening quickly, also due to the 'nothing to hide' bullshit.
Second one is that were going more and more towards open source.
This is a good thing as this:
- gives freedom to devs around the world to improve software and/or modify it to suit their needs.
- gives people the opportunity to look through the source code of softwares in order to verify it as for backdoors and find security vulnerabilities which otherwise can remain hidden for the general public while spying agencies have way more resources to go vulnerability hunting.
For the people who think this isn't a good idea (even more open source), without it we'd be completely fucked as for moving forward/security/privacy. (I can give examples if wanted).3 -
That glorious moment when you remove a function from your Javascript.
is_internet_explorer()
It's one job was to detect and prompt a user about not using IE on this shit for a stain website - ironically built for IE 😂
You sir, will not be missed 🥳11 -
there's this thing I've noticed...
º the more interesting DEV task I'm working on, the more I forget to eat (sometimes at all @9-5)
º the more boring/repelling DEV task I'm working on, the more snack breaks I take
Am I alone here?
Does that mean exciting DEV (only?) work is more likely to keep you fit and boring tasks are dragging you to obesity?2 -
Yahoo, Kotlin is the first class language for android. So no more fucking Java codes. No more 100 lines for basic configurations. No more null pointer exceptions.
Only beautiful code and fun.14 -
Unpopular opinnion: Whole IT industry is becoming more and more degenerative with each passing day..17

Everyday I prefer Linux more and more over Windows 10...

Today my PCs 9 years of service to me has ended. We lived through 3 windows versions, many many linux distros and even more games. This computer gave me more happiness than any friend or girl. This computer supported me more than any of my parents.

This is a rant about that guy who is younger, more talented, smarter, more handsome and a super wizard in everything he does.. and still manages to be a nice guy.
Fuck you. It's unfair3 -
Why must it be that school interferes with coding and coding interferes with school? I learn so much more outside school with computers these days, and it's so much more interesting!3
-
The more I play with C, the more I realize why many people hate C++.
I like the amount of control and the simplicity. No unnecessary syntax sugar, and the code is very straightforward to read.11 -
Anyone else flipping tired of hearing: we need more this, more that, more blacks, more women, more whatever, in tech?
We don’t fucking need more anyone in anything.
We just need sane, talented and hard working people to get the job done well. And do that with courtesy to all person.11 -
Last year my goals were two:
- work less
- earn more
and I only achieved the second one.
Based on that, my new resolutions are:
- sleep more
- do not work more
- earn more or equal
- to gain stability
- more efficient workouts7 -
Paraphrased with imaginary ending:
Me: Ok so this X will never be more than Y items and not more than one pages?
Person: Yes. it won't be more than Y items and never more than one page.
Me: If this is always Y items or less and not more than one page, I can hammer this out quick then. If it is more than that it will take much longer to complete.
Person: Awesome!!!
-later-
Person: OK here's the template for Y x10 items and multiple pages.
Me: Oh I'm sorry, we're going to have to stop working on this. I thought you actually gave a fuck about this 'important' project and that you had deadlines you cared about, but apparently not enough to participate in this conversation with any level of intellectual honesty. Please fuck off now while I go work on more productive tasks....4 -
Anyone else get Stockholm syndrome for languages? Like you gotta use a language you hate for something and the more you use it, the more you warm up to it?7

Don't you just love it when you ask Hibernate to fetch some data from DB and it does that for you.?And also updates a few more tables on its way. And inserts a few more rows. And updates another couple of fields..
Isn't that just amazing? I mean.. What could be more satisfying than getting an "ORA-00001: unique constraint (some.constraint) violated" while issuing a FUCKING **GET** METHOD?5 -
I'm regretting trying so hard at my jobs. I get passionate and over perform, and because of that, I'm given more responsibility and put in more leadership roles with no more pay. I need to get better at doing the bare minimum and leaving the passion for home projects6

Do some cool shit that I’ve always wanted to do.
- learn more about machine learning and computer vision
- learn C / C++ / rust
- learn embedded systems / programming
- learn more EE centered stuff3 -
Life cycle of code
1- See what sound code I have written! It's beautiful.
2 - Hey we missed something last time, just add this bit of tweak.
3 - We need to add some flags for some exception cases
4 - Hey there is a new requirement. Just add some more paths and more flags
5 - More flags!
6 - This shit runs now more on flags than on the design!
7 - Flagception!3 -
I see now why people can despise WordPress.
2nd week of just pure learning and I gotta say that I can see that the way it was built was paved with good intentions, but it's clear people wanted more from it and things have only gotten more and more messy.
Honestly, it's fine. It's not my favorite stack, but whatevs.16 -
Finally my stickers arrived! Again! xD And they're getting more and more!
Maybe devRant should check their awesome-sticker-sending-process.
But until then, I ain't complainin' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯4 -
The good part is with each update Android studio gets more and more powerful with more and more features.
The sad part work each update Android studio gets heavier and even the basic feature is a pain in the ass to work with
-One sad Android developer ;)2 -
The more I study IT and programming languages, the more I'm leaving Windows for Unix. Windows feels so heavy, I don't know why.5

Wen want to get away from boring, monotonous and meaningless jobs so we can focus more on music and art. Thats why we created AI to automate music and art so you have more time to feel like shit.18

New year is the only +1 I do not give a fuck about. All it means is I am one year closer to death, so I will smoke one more cigarette after the last, one more cup of coffee with far too much sugar, and I will keep coding one more line after the other, and frankly it is just to distract me from the fact that there is always another +1, one more person to hate, one more word spoken, all so I can get to through one more year. So fuck the new year because there will always be another. But I won't always get a +1 on a rant.5

My last day at my current company and damn, I couldn‘t be happier. Consulting was the worst decision I ever made and from tomorrow on I‘ll be free.
No more lying to clients, no more pushing of horrible products, no more silence towards problems because they didn‘t pay for a more expensive service.
I can finally stop hating myself for my job!3 -
now I’m starting to understand why unit testing is helpful as I’m making more and more features to the existing system I’m beginning to realize that the more shit I add the more chances I have of the existing components to fucking break for no reason this is very annoying and time-consuming11

Every job interview I go through I feel more certain that I need to get out of my job asap and more doubtful that I wanna work with these companies.

I got freelance contact for this simple static website.
Now the client is having a brainstorm and started giving more and more requests for features...
Slowly it's going to be not worth it...5 -
@dfox Can you maybe change the [read more] text color and/or size? It blends in with the rest of the post and sometimes makes it hard to tell there is more to see.4

So it's been awhile since I switched from PHP to Golang.
At first I missed PHP a lot, but golang really has some advantages, so its fine.
But over time, and when the project grows in features, I more and more and more start to miss more and more at least basic classes / inheritance and abstraction friendly stuff from php.
Im finally reaching the point where I start to truly miss php, I can't stop myself after writing a feature to think how much less work that would be in php.
Call me crazy, but damn, it's real.14 -
In a universe where JavaScript was never invented, the world of programming might look vastly different. Perhaps another programming language would have taken its place, or multiple languages would have coexisted in a more harmonious ecosystem.
Without the challenges posed by JavaScript, web development may have been smoother and more streamlined. Websites could have been faster and more responsive, without the need for complex optimization techniques. There might have been fewer security vulnerabilities to worry about, and the web could have been a safer place for users.
In this utopian world, developers would have had more time to focus on building great user experiences and innovative features, rather than battling with cross-browser compatibility issues and JavaScript quirks. The internet would have been a more accessible and inclusive place, with fewer barriers to entry for those who want to build and create.
Overall, a world without the horrors of JavaScript would have been a world with less frustration and more possibilities.

I feel like a sailor waiting for an upcoming voyage. Restless, yet hopeful, yet a bit anxious about what will happen.
Also, am unemployed now. Lol. Feels awesome... Except for the financial part. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, am making way too many philosophical decisions as I stand at the edge of an important phase of my life. And rediscovering a part of my personality I forgot existed.
Anyways, hopefully future brings more robots, more AI, more fantastic things to build, and more money and success.2 -
• Learn new things!
• Continue my programming projects (mostly C#), and eventually publish them!
• Create more programming side-projects!
• Create more music, of various genres, and finish unfinished tracks! (I love music 💙)
• Buy a violin, or another instrument! (I already play harpsichord and piano, and I love them both)
• Buy a new PC setup! (maybe?)
• Get a driver's license!
• Create more music sheets!
• Create more custom maps, on rhythm games! (like osu! or Cytus / Cytunity)
• Make new friends, and meet with my older ones more!
• Go to places, new and old!
• Open myself more to others! (I'm kinda shy)
• Do my university's exams, properly!
• Do my conservatory's exams, also properly!
• Try drawing!
• Try all sorts of new things!
• Get a cat into the family! (I love cats, but I never got one because I don't know how to raise them, yet)
• Be more confident about myself!
And... yeah, I guess that's it :D
What about you?
Have a happy 2019, everyone! 💙2 -
I see more and more people encouraging people to learn Haskell. But why ? What can you do with it, that you would not do with another language? what have you done with haskell?7

Hey Guys
A few Questions I have to decide soon, for tools I never used:
1- How do you guys keep information about several accounts and stuff? Must have some protection to not be easily accessible (started using Google Notepad and Evernote until I find better... don't really like them)
2- Firefox: Is there a way to store groups of open tabs?
Like I have one windows with 6 or 7 tabs for movies (youtube and such), other for general stuff with 5 or 6 tabs, other with Arduino shit, and I'm going to pick Vue soon and another language to build native apps and that will be a lot more tabs, It would be nice to close them all and open them all at will or something.
3 - What Is your favorite browser? I'm using Firefox, but there are so many new good ones... Like Brave browser with Tor incorporated, or Puffin for Android (which uses a VPN with their own server by default)
4 - For windows users, do you have any tools to help with workflow installed? which ones you use and why?
5 - What I'm using: Google Notepad + Evernote to save stuff, Windows 10 and Firefox, (Linux Mint in VM) and I just keep my shortcuts in folders... I don't use the Windows taskbar for a long while since its so full of shit.
6 - How do you do your backups? Right now I'm just putting my code and important stuff in Dropbox.
I'm an old school programmer... Stuck in 1990's Ideas and there is so muchhhh shit these days that I would prefer your opinions then just googling.
Guess that's enough for this post. Thank you guys28 -
Working on the front-end of my portfolio project and I'm trying to keep simplicity in mind. Apparently, I have a bad habit of trying to add more and more features xD I have to stop myself.

Entrepreneurship is much more than just boasting about your so called achievements on social media in every hour. Creating value and solving daily problems efficiently is much more important.
-
Being a team lead is watching your members grow more and more while you stay out of date because you don’t have any more time to read and learn what’s new3
-
when you confirm with a friend that 2 different members of their team who left didn't contribute shit (one of which got into a meeting with management with them telling them to work) , but they also made more money than both of you and are now making more money in more successful companies in more senior roles
is it possible to learn this power /palpatine1 -
Only one goal : earn more money.
- Not to work for friendship, equity, kindness, craziness, etc. Code more for sole purpose to earn more
- Accept more projects whether I can develop or not to earn more
- Learn to manage and work with freelancers and agencies to earn more
- Work for anyone and any type of project suitable for my knowledge as long as the offer is good to earn more
Etc. You got the gist.
My language for 2020 is money :3
(well I'm trying to, anyway)1 -
Just because OO exists, it's not mandatory.
Some code would be 10(+) times simpler, more readable and more maintainable without it.7 -
Working on Ruby on Rails for first time..
Blogs mention it's more human readable..
I guess I feel like semicolons, args and braces to be more readable... -
I'm confused. How'd we go from contributors like Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper and Margret Hamilton, to: WE NEED MORE WOMEN IN TECH, WE NEED MORE WOMEN IN TECH!!!10
-
At what point do you stop optimizing queries and realize it's a database architecture, scaling problem?
We've been having production issues this week because a lot more users with more demands, and I'm going we need more servers... We can't just have one db, we need to parallelize like Hadoop...
Everyone else is going, how do we optimize queries, indexes, reduce the load...11 -
One last feature and I’ll be done with a project holy fuck. I’m so fucking close just one more class and it’s done and I can move on to something I like a little more.2

Ugh. Challenges. I need to create a 3D two player online game with the new HTML5 WebSockets, and I'm using a free 000webhost server which I barely have control over. Does anyone know how to connect two client connections together in PHP?8

Gotta love it when you try out a different VS Code extension for a specific language and then on each autoformat, more and more spaces get inserted.

I like how it's lowly becoming more and more a typed language.
Anyway, nice updates, but don't really see much changes overall

I needed to update this function to add some more functionality. And this is what i did.( I did added more functionality though)
Will I be fired?5 -
TLDR filling disk space
Filling almost all c drive and buying more and more external storage.
When downloading new software, open file explorer -> my computer -> press f5 every 10 seconds to see your drive taking place. -
I'm not any kind of developer (yet), but I'm learning and this awesome site realy helped me to understand more about this industry from inside and I want to do this even more than before! =D1

I’m using Devrant sporadically due to my lack of time and I really enjoyed it back in the early days. I see more and more scammers/spammers posting here and I feel like I’m not in the right place to be posting/sharing/ranting.
My question: is someone or more than one person here actually maintaining Devrant ? Why so many scammy accounts here ?8 -
Any code should be simple and easy to read / understand.
I just reworked an old stored SQL proc.
Went from 102 lines to ... 10.
More I code, more I realize that maintainability, readability, comments and unit tests are more important than actual code. (And performances ofc. But if 1 line code does it in 1 second and 500 lines code in 0.2 seconds, I’ll take one line solution every time)5 -
More beer and more music. Who needs more in life? 😌

VSCode is not working. I hate this crap more and more each day.
Its intrusive, messed with file permission, does whatever it wants, spawns lots of clashing processes, takes endless for linting/highlighting/running lots of bs trojan processes in the background and effectively blocking you from being productive more and more.
It's dangerous to my computer and my health!!rant bullshit spyware man-in-the-middle-attack crapware crazy vscode trojan horses global virus blocking hate health8 -

Hey, just joining devrant and find it so much funnier than

Reddit is a funny site but I find it more and more boring..1 -

i love how Linux marketshare doubled from 2018 And Windoes lost a ton. Ms is even starting making more noob Software for Linux to milk more in the future.7

Best:
Huge update and refactoring on my private infrastructure (gigabit lan, ipv6, new vpn architecture, new dns, new mailserver and much more). And there is no more microsoft in my little kingdom :)
Also i stumbled over devrant ;)
Worst:
Still a lot of unfinished projects, more and more problems at work because of lack of concentration. Been diagnosed with adhd this year, so at least i know the source of my problems, but it still hurts to fail :(
Best wishes for 2017++ to the devrant community!1 -
- participate in more exciting projects
- be more mindful about the time and mental resources I put in my projects
- find out what kind of dev I want to be -

Since education has been industrialized on a large scale we will see more and more non geeky developers.. But I think geeky developers are always better.. What do you think?4

My motivation disappears day by day more when wfh. Always sitting in the same flat drives me crazy and I'm missing socializing (as a person more on the introvert side).3

if we will make a list of female developers who are on devrant and are active, then list will end in less than twenty lines.
we should encourage more females to join the profession as they are excelling everywhere like as astranauts, politics etc.
I know abt yahoo ceo, I am just saying we need more and more.22 -
Working on a CLI based software and focusing more on the logo appearance/colors than the actual software.

More and more declining respect for programmers, unrealistic expectations from managers, and worse and worse code as everyone becomes dependent on taking modern hardware for granted.

It ain't even clickbait

one more week....one more week....one more week....
One more week until I get off this stupid ridiculous project and into something at least a bit more sane -
TLDR; read the last alinea, my train just arrived and I am typing this after the resr of the rant
So lately there's been a lot of hate on here to PHP, which for now I'd say feel offended if you want to, but fuck all of the guys hating on a language without personal experience or even just plain "I used it for a week or less"-experience.
Noticed I said "a", yes I am not just talking about hate on PHP. It's pretty much the stupidest thing one can do, exclude a programming language you might like more than you will think at this moment. I present to you; My first few weeks of internship last year.
So last year I had to find a company to do an internship at with two classmates, none of them replied with a come over for a talk except a company mainly working in Laravel (PHP).
All of us didnt like php at the time, me possibly even hating it the most, but that didnt keep us from taking the leap of faith and just going to the company for a talk, I mean it couldnt hurt right?
So after the talk we had a place for an internship, which we all thought we were all going to hate, because of PHP.
Now a few weeks into the internship (3 / 10 weeks I'd say) we had basically just gotten done with the first setup of the project we had to build. And we noticed after a good 2 or 3 weeks that it didn't feel like too much of a different language.
Personally I even found it better than C# or Java, which were the only other languages I knew at the time.
Now keep in mind I still like C# and Java, allthough guven the chance I'll choose PHP everyday over both.
But I learned more things I was expecting to learn those 10 internship-weeks, with the one thing I am writing about being the main focus:
Stop hating, try the language out for at least a week (yes 5 * 8 hours) and then make an educated decission based on your findings throughout the week, you might be surprised...rant im using vue more and more lately fuck shit fuck you train does anyone actually read this tho? fuck language hater language hate6 -
With every day that passes, I more and more want to do something else as a profession...
But WHAT?!?!8 -
If you’re ever feel tired of annoying corporate presence everywhere, go straight to Next.js issues on github.
Since zeit (the company behind it) are too busy polishing their pitches and building more and more fragile betas, no one will ever help you with your problem there. They literally pitch and release more often than writing anything there.
People are seem to have built the help community there all by themselves, and the more I look at it the more it reminds me of SCP Foundation IKEA (http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-3008) where people forever stuck in eerie infinite IKEA with no exit just built the whole new society.1 -
Learn more languages (programming and verbal wise), expand my knowledge beyond web technologies and build something with hardware, also get paid more.
-
Something I hate about working in the team is that the code reviewer will stall the time and leave a lot of pull requests unreviewed. As more code changes more commits and more pull requests.
The code base is conflicting with each other, what the fuck? I hate this.5 -
All the projects where you are doing an awsome design and code work and then the client wants pizza pictures... more pizza pictures everywhere... and then he wants more of them again.
Bottom Line - When you have to build bullshit sites2 -
I wish the companies understand the value of silent and problem absorbing people who are the people supports the company more than the ones who talks more to the death.7
-
i wish i had no university classes (or at least, only programming classes) so that i could learn more about different technologies and had more time to code :(3

Why can't more stuff support markdown?
I have had more reasons to use it lately, outside of repo READMEs, and (re)discovered just how awesome it can be in different text situations.4 -
1. Extend my infosec knowledge further and try getting more work in that area (and less as a dev).
2. Specialize more, dabble less.
3. Learn more !dev skills (military/political history mostly) -
I often use white noise to help me sleep and more and more often recently I've start using the deep sound of a moving hair dryer to help me concentrate. I find it extremely relaxing.2

Jesus christ google hurry up and finish work on crostini!
Seem's like every day there is some new news about its development's and im just getting more and more excited! -
1) Having the opportunity to read and write the future, with no one telling you that you can't
2) feeling superior to non-techies because as this world gets more and more digital every day, you have more potential to control them or make them dependent on you
3) hopefully the AI overlords will be more peaceful to programmers because we created them....3 -
So many open tickets and they keep becoming more and more. In the end they will never be worked on, as there's always smth more important, although they are reprioritized on fixed schedules. They will eventually be discarded because they were forgotten and the ticket was already done, just by a ticket with similar naming or similar intent.
How would you solve this? Can this be solved?2 -
if you are a good developer, been dispensable in a project is like quicksand: the more you try not to be, more important you become ... and you die choked by Jira tickets and anger

Anyone elses file names sound more and more frustrating as a client continues to request tiny changes? Like it goes from

Couldn't be more proud of myself and at the same time more terrified of what to come.2 -
dear Android devs, how many of you work in a Team of more Android devs? And are you more productive in a Team than being solo ?12

Stoners who are bragging the worst. They can not function properly and worst it, they are not aware of the fact they are making themselves more and more idiot as time passes.
Normally, I wouldn't care stupid people to get more stupid, when you are trying to cooperate with them in any case, they are pain to deal with.42 -
Making CS more practical oriented and hands-on focussed would help a lot. It will develop more interest and attract more students. Nothing feels better than your own code doing what you intended it to.

Every time I get annoyed by something on GitLab I'm more and more tempted to start making my own git platform.
What could possibly go wrong? :D1 -
Somebody write more and more ugly / incomprehensible lines of code for 1-2 beautiful line.
But the bug is always in ugly code.
I hate these programmers, I hate these programs!1 -
- Stay relevant in technology
- Keep working from home and writing code
- Try to finish some personal projects
- Post more content online
- Print more 3d stuff
- Learn Blender
- Gain CKA k8 certificate and some other cloud related certificates
- Try to find one more nice remote client
That’s more on less everything related with dev / computer stuff. -
C#
Lately there have been a lot of new features for the language itself, and I fear that a lot of them make the language more and more convoluted.
Also AoT Compilation should be pushed more, but that might just be my opinion.14 -
I just realized i created a paradox: no one codes on a daily basis more than i do and yet everyone earns more money than i do7
-
Why do people think that putting in more hours = more productivity and sitting extra makes you a more hard working employee?
Today out producer guy indirectly tried to tell me to 'be more productive' and to show 'some dedication'; I asked him outright that is he implying that staying beyond office hours is how I'm suppose to do it and the asshole replies how else would you? (in a non aggressive way)
Fuck this attitude. 😐2 -

When /W4 in Visual Studio (cl) shows more (and more helpful) information than /Wall /Wextra /pedantic in gcc (MinGW)....

I think that leaving a child of just a year or even few months in front of the tv equals to an adult watching porn, the more your baby keep watching the cartoons on the TV the more he is not satisfied and would like to watch something BETTER. Now let's compare it to us as Adults, the more asses and holes you watch on pornhub the more you don't feel satisfied and you keep looking for something more exciting, and that's how you damage your brain.
What do you think?12 -
I started a months ago in a new company and I grab a horrible legacy system and what makes me more angry is they know the code isn't code and isn't fit our new reality but they don't want to refactor the same.
So which more features we produce more bugs comes along because the legacy code bugs still on there.4 -
<previous_developer>'s_file_of_shame.me a log of hideous code base I've inherited. is growing and growing. The more I write the more I wish I would be rid of it.1

An App/service which would help doctors and patients to schedule consultation hours. Also an patient would always have medical relevant documents as digital documents. No more waiting for faxes, no more lost diagnostic sheets everything is always in reach. No more search for an MRI appointment and no more overfilled waiting rooms. Better programms for docs! The ones ive seen in hospitals and doctors offices looks horrific..1

In 2019, I wish to contribute to more open source projects, pick up C++ and create more projects of my own which hopefully leads to a successful startup.

When you have no more tickets on your plate for a sprint, do you usually ask for more tickets, or do you wait to get assigned more tickets?

Did GPT have an unfair advantage compared to every general Chat-AI that comes after?
I mean, chatGPT was trained with data mostly generated by real humans. Now, since chatGPT and GPT4 is released, it has become more difficult to tell the content from bot and a Human apart. This means future chat AI will probably also by trained with data from other AI. And since AI doesn't understand context, and therefore make more factual error, future chat AI will learn more and more wrong things (generated by previous AI versions).4 -
!rant very happy to see a development at my uni towards having programming(+related courses) being more and more examined throughout the course through assignments and seminars where you have to explain what you did and why. I think this is a much more suitable solution for some courses best done with practise than having a paper based exam.3

Can't believe I am actually falling more and more in love with spacemacs.. it just keeps delivering2

Since when I discovered codepen.io, everyday I watch the picked pens to discover new cool things and feel more and more ignorant. Do you have a codepen account? I want to see yours

The more I learn the less I feel like I know with regards to programming.
As time goes on it seems more and more important to restrict picking up new topics so I can gain focus and clarity on the ones I already know a bit.
Should I double down on the ones I know or continue to try a bit of everything?1 -
Devs act like princesses more and more, since there is such a shortage of developers. So many of them are never satisfied and always want more and more. Is this a problem only in the Netherlands, or also in other countries?9

Start standing up for my health and my expertise more, dive deep into animation, get a job on the product side, find time for my neglected side projects, go on more walks, get with a hot dev girl who can act as my lead and can spank and beat me when my code is shitty, network more with other devs to build collective safety nets for each other, buy a house with a record player room and hockey garage, practice more love3

Why Windows 11 is trying to be mac os (at least look wise)? The more I use it, the more I am getting irritate. All the ui from windows 10 is still there, so why add extra sugar candy just to look different than windows 10. Many things require more clicks and more typing now.9

For 2020 I want to achieve more insight of my already running collaboration service/tool for businesses by talking more to managers, chiefs and workers.

I thought I might give bootstrap a chance by recreating an existing website. Problem is that this website is "simpler" with a carousel and a dark mode toggle being the few more complicated features, so it might be even faster to simply write the CSS myself and get my hands dirty. Using bootstrap for this seems more and more overkill, the more I look at it. On the other hand I know bootstrap already takes much care of responsiveness and vendor-prefixes and so on. What have I gotten myself into with bootstrap...21

I am starting to agree more and more with Linus' assessment that C++ is stupid! Maybe I should move to C!1

Hello family,
what do you think about publishing unfinished apps? I dont mean beta versions, but apps where you could implement more features bit by bit. So the main app is fully functional, but you could implement more and more..
So what's your opinion?
thanks fam

My Windows Computer is crapping out more and more with each "update".
Currently, it often hangs when shutting down or restarting. Completely out of the blue!
Like, I remember it updated itself a few days ago and now I have random problems, crashes and a few more bloat-/spyware apps that I didnt order.
Also, windows added a few more cryptic services to my OS that now phone home to all countries all around the world.
This is a nightmare!3 -
Am I the only one that spends more time and puts in more effort towards my job...... than anything else in my life ??
Love my job more than anything3 -
I feel more excited creating my own products and an ecommerce store. No more jerky bosses. Of course now I have to do everything myself. Here's another iPhone case.5

From my recent break up, it's safe to assume that I don't have a social... anymore.
I'll be more optimistic here and think I'll get more time to learn and give more time to fix issues -
Or when I get a jira task and I spend more trying to understand what the fuck is it supposed to mean than actually solving it.
Love it.
And yes, asking about it would take even more time. -
I understand that is is much more personal preference but I figure suggestions will point me in a direction to explore.
Suggestion on mouse and keyboard?
As expected I'm coding a lot more now that I have a job doing it but that also means more hand and finger fatigue, stock shit just ain't cutting it.2 -

Do you guys think that developer market is being over flooded? programming jobs are glamorized and more and more people are getting into the field, what will the market look like in 5 years?2

I really hate it when you are reading DevRant on a public wifi network, and the network decides to drop the "more rants" packet, that you are blocked from loading more rants. Why do most applications stop loading more pages after a single request times out, it's really annoying2

I'm more partial to Sublime Text. Never got into the Atom craze, and always wanted to be more vim-ish.
But more and more people seem to be into VScode for some reason. Need to check that out soon.1 -
I just wanted to say that most rants I saw today were great. Loads of original pics and good stories. This, while others think devRant is becoming more and more of just a repost forum. Any thoughts?1

So I just watched Them some more, and saw a whole episode which almost to me seems like a fucking snuff film. Depicting the 1800s as being far more dementedly cruel than they already were with people smiling in delight at a 'witch' burning that resembles more the fucked up way people are now, than what I would imagine them back then, which is likely more callous overall.12

good evening devs,
any suggestions/tips, on how to learn more efficiently, more effectively, more structured?
Recently, after school/work, my discipline to learn is lost a bit..
Because, watching tutorials or reading, while programming the shown, isn't the right thing for me.
I need definitely much more practice , to keep shit in my brain.
Maybe i need ideas? small projects and then make it bigger and bigger?
How do you learn?
Whats your way to practice?1 -
Start teaching as early as possible. Cut the repetitive ICT courses too, and put teachers who know more than 'This is Word and how you open the internet' in the front of the class.
Also, there should be more extracurricular things that focus on CS. Maybe have a once-a-week meet-and-hack, or a hackathon every semester. We have something like FIRST Robotics here, so why not more of that? Just something to engage children more and provide more opportunities for them to discover CS in the classroom. -
So basically, At work, we are starting to get bigger, more devs, more ppl, but we are starting to get QA, and PM, and Im starting to hate it4
-
I got both fundamental Azure and AWS certifications, need to choose one to stick to for the future, I'm leaning more towards AWS since it has over 50% more market share than Azure and a much bigger and more robust platform, I also really like how they constantly add new features and services and integration with third party software. Azure developers seem to get paid more though and I found its UI to be more user friendly so....opinions? 🤔2

Caching is cool. But damn it! When it comes to testing it's just a hell of a pain to search and disable every caching found to ensure the result is repeatable.
npm cache, /tmp, ~/.cache, and more, and more! -
Using the Devrant iOS app Incan't scroll down to load more posts. Is that intentional?
At least I cannot do it while using filters. My "front page" uses some filters and I can only see 10 posts. When I scroll down hoping to load more posts I attempt to "drag den to load more" but the app doesn't load more posts. I just see a spinner that vanished.
Bug or feature?2 -
I have been using 10 sick days since I had sth… I can use 5 more days legitimately and even 10 more dishonestly. What to do?8
