Up until yesterday, I was planning on not getting a Bacherlor's degree related to programming. I'm currently an intern and I believe that they'll want to keep me afterwards. Even it they don't, my old boss has a junior developer position opening soon and he asked me if I was interested.

Why is it I buy a new phone for $500, then within a year it's only worth $50 and a packet of chips?

Today, Linux kernel 5.8 was released, here is how it runs on my new laptop.

- Realtek shit ethernet still doesn't work (no, I didn't return it, because I would have to buy at least 2 times as expensive docking station instead and it is just not worth it), but considering Realtek, it is probably not a Linux kernel issue
- Battery life while watching videos was improved pretty significantly from 6.5 hours to about 7.3 hours (1080p HEVC)
- All temperature sensors are now working correctly
- Fan is a little more silent overall, probably because of some power draw improvements
- Subjectively, the system is a little bit more responsive overall

I am planning on getting an Vega 56 for Linux. Does anyone know how it performs. I heard a lot of good stuff about Vega 64 on Linux. But the power consumption is quite high and I am not sure if the drivers work well.
So I was wondering if it's actually worth it or not.

I wrote a tiny Windows app that switches to High Performance energy profile when plugged into AC and switches to Balanced when on battery. It sits on the tray and you can override settings manually. I made it back when I used Windows 10, but it's also handy on other Windows versions

Trying to implement DDD into this current project of mine but the whole concept of converting Eloquent objects into plain entities seems to be more work than it is worth.

But the whole methodology of DDD also seems rather complicated.

So, working on real multi language support today I was searching for countries and country-codes. Yes this one is easy peasy. Also easy if you want every countryname in your supported languages.
But why is there no source for the states or provinces translated in every language. It's so hard to find...
Anyone knows a source for it? Is it worth to create a project for such translations?

Currently I am stressing myself out for these certifications and all people around me either say it is worthless or it is VERY valuable. I hate exams, it makes feel sick, is there other ways to prove that I am a good dev? My process for estimating dev work?

3 hours a day of uninterrupted dev time, 4 days a week (~12 hours a week).

So when I say the project will take 24 hours, it is about two weeks worth of work.

Is GraphQL worth it? It promisses to keep some load away from backend programmers but what about this scenario:
There's a list of items with scroll load/infinite scroll. There can be several filters as well as the Option to change the ordering of the list items.
With "traditional" REST, I'll hit the DB with one request, get the data in the right order to the backend, might itterate over it once to add additional information, cache the result in Redis/Memcache and send it off.
Using GraphQL, the frontend has to load all entries first, sort them in JS (which probably is slow on mobile devices), and then display it. No matter how "expensive" the query is, there's no caching.

Is that about it? Did I get something backwards?
