Last hour of my job today:
Hardstyle blasting out of the speakers at full volume
Everyone drinking a beer
Boss coming in with "Fuck this shit we're gonna game!"
This is what I call a good end of the work week 😍33 -
> be me
> want to write troll "viruses" to fck arround with frieds
> write batch files
> shit everyone can see what I do
> google 'how to make exe'
> install VS
> google 'make exe with vb.net'
> spend 3hr/s copying the Internet
> send friend exe
> blocked by antivirus
> write other bullshit
> actually learn stuff
> shit I'm kinda good at this
> keep going
> 4 years later
> be system administrator / devop / web dev / app dev / desktop dev
> get paid
> inb4 wants to troll friend - finds dream job instead7 -
So I had a job interview and got offered the job on the spot, then I went back to my manager at my current workplace to raise an issue about me being underpaid for this months wages and this is how the conversation went.
Enjoy.20 -
8 am, got in to work, everything has exploded overnight. The servers are dead, the scripts aren't running, everyone has panicked. So many emails.. So many Skype messages. I wish I wasn't the only one who can fix it. Send help (and coffee).25
-
Just a little bit of venting from me (written in GT for speed):
>be me
>apply for a programming job at a local company
>interviewer says that he's impressed with my resume and says that he'll call me
>one week later
>"hey anon, drop by our office, you're hired!"
>hot diggity damn!
>papers say that it's a help desk job
>"oh don't worry about it, it's just that we don't have a programming sector yet"
>wtf the job offer was for programmers but w/e a job is a job is a job
>start working there. Really mineal shit like fixing entries on SQL, resetting modems, etc.
>decide to write a couple of scripts for more mechanical tasks such as gathering .xml for the accountant
>everything is peaches and gravy
>one day the boss calls me into his office
>"hey anon, you're fired!"
>ask him why
>tells me my coworkers ratted me out on the scripts, says that I'm cheating on the job
>ni🅱️🅱️a wut???
>try to explain myself to him but he won't listen
>get fired after 4 months of being the most productive member of the team
That serves me right for trying to be good at my shitty ass job. Oh well.14 -
Friend: "Don't all computer science people learn multiple languages so they can use the right one for the job?"
My reply:
We learn multiple languages because some asshat before us had a hard-on for it and now we need to keep that shit running and we don't have time to rewrite it.6 -
It's official, I am quitting...
Boss walks in today while we busy discussing how to write up the new endpoint we need from the api and tells us there is too much discussion and as only woman can multitask, Dumi is the only person that can be productive...10 -
I'm so fucking tired of all these "teach kids to code" and "everyone can code" shit.
It's genuinely not for everyone. Some people are not meant to code, so stop trying to force it down everyone's throat because we're going to end up with a lot of people doing it because of a nice job and shit, not because they want to.
I get many of these programs and shit are to expose people to it and all, but fucking hell stop trying to make everyone fucking programmers23 -
My boss: "Do you ever like, not be on the computer?"
Me: " it's my job"
Boss: "oh shit you right. My bad"2 -
So I've been looking for a Linux sysadmin job for a while now. I get a lot of rejections daily and I don't mind that because they can give me feedback as for what I am doing wrong. But do you know what really FUCKING grinds my FUCKING gears?
BEING REJECTED BASED ON LEVEL OF EDUCATION/NOT HAVING CERTIFICATIONS FOR CERTAIN STUFF. Yes, I get that you can't blindly hire anyone and that you have to filter people out but at least LOOK AT THEIR FUCKING SKILLSET.
I did MBO level (the highest sub level though) as study which is considered to be the lowest education level in my country. lowest education level meaning that it's mostly focused on learning through doing things rather than just learning theory.
Why the actual FUCK is that, for some fucking reason, supposed to be a 'lower level' than HBO or Uni? (low to high in my country: MBO, HBO, Uni). Just because I learn better by doing shit instead of solely focusing on the theory and not doing much else does NOT FUCKING MEAN THAT I AM DUMBER OR LESS EDUCATED ON A SUBJECT.
So in the last couple of months, I've literally had rejections with reasons like
- 'Sorry but we require HBO level as people with this level can analyze stuff better in general which is required for this job.'. - Well then go fuck yourself. Just because I have a lower level of education doesn't FUCKING mean that I can't analyze shit at a 'lower level' than people who've done HBO.
- 'You don't seem to have a certificate for linux server management so it's a no go, sorry!' - Kindly go FUCK yourself. Give me a couple of barebones Debian servers and let me install a whole setup including load balancers, proxies if fucking neccesary, firewalls, web servers, FUCKING Samba servers, YOU FUCKING NAME IT. YES, I CAN DO THAT BUT SOLELY BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THAT FUCKING CERTIFICATE APPEARANTLY MEANS THAT I AM TOO INCOMPETENT TO DO THAT?! Yes. I get that you have to filter shit but GUESS WHAT. IT'S RIGHT THERE IN MY FUCKING RESUME.
- 'Sorry but due to this role being related to cyber security, we can't hire anyone lower than HBO.' - OH SO YOUR LEVEL OF EDUCATION DEFINES HOW GOOD YOU ARE/CAN BE AT CYBER SECURITY RELATED STUFF? ARE YOU MOTHERFUCKING RETARDED? I HAVE BEEN DOING SHIT RELATED TO CYBER SECURITY SINCE I WAS 14-15 FUCKiNG YEARS OLD. I AM FAMILIAR WITH LOADS OF TOOLS/HACKING TECHNIQUES/PENTESTING/DEFENSIVE/OFFENSIVE SECURITY AND SO ON AND YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT I NEED A HIGHER LEVEL OF FUCKING EDUCATION?!?!? GO FUCKING FUCK YOURSELF.
And I can go on like this for a while. I wish some companies I come across would actually look at skills instead of (only) study levels and certifications. Those other companies can go FUCK THEMSELVES.39 -
HP printer: *starts acting on its own*
*pulls plug*
NOW WHO FUCKING OWNS YOU, FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT?!! WHO PAID COLD HARD FUCKING MONEY FOR YOU HUH, FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT?!!!!
Don't you ever dare to do anything again, unless I fucking tell you to, fucking worthless piece of shit, that can't even do its printer jobs properly!!! WORTHLESS FUCKING PIECE OF JUNK!!!
Guess I'll leave it unplugged until I have a new print job for it at this point. Geez, can't even trust my fucking printer to do what it's supposed to anymore!!! Long live the world in Big Brother. Lest we forget that there exists such a thing as fucking ownership!!!14 -
Holy shit I got the job/internship!!!
WTFFFLBLBLBLBLAK
They even said that after reading my code samples they knew they could use someone like me 😍😍 biggest compliment I have gotten since 3 years at least. Selfworth restored 👍8 -
Sometimes when I meet new people and they ask "What is your job?" I want to answer "I'm a plumber" 😄
Because I'm so sick of reinstalling Windows on people's laptop's and other shit like that 😔10 -
I've had 3 interviews with the same company. The first two interviews went pretty well, they looked interested, on the third they tell me "your CV says you are not graduated yet, we can't hire you now".
SO WHY THE FUCK DID YOU HAD TO WASTE MY TIME?
You've had my CV before the first interview, why the hell didn't you read that I am still a student? Is the first thing it's written on it! Stupid fuckers.5 -
Me everyday:
1- Get excited to start coding
2- Start coding
3- Run code
4- Bug found
5- Start debugging
6- Start feeling frustrating
7- Start questioning myself about career
8- Start hating life
9- Start banging head against the wall
10- Start looking for a different job
11- Oh shit! It was a typo
12- Go back to number 16 -
When your boss says "good job, you have developed something big in such a small time" (~2 weeks) but you haven't showed him the bugs and shit (gonna fix it btw)3
-
I got my first job!
A real, full-time job that doesn't pay me shit!
I haven't even graduated Uni yet!
FUCK YEAH! 🍻10 -
Wtf how am I seeing job postings for senior blockchain developers with 8+ years of experience? Aint this shit like super new??12
-
Got a job as a controls engineer. Told my parents.
Parents: Good Job!
Brother: Bro! How you make so much money?
Me: I went to a tech school and learned how to do technical stuff.
Brother: Oh... fuck that shit!
Everyone was really supportive. Been slowly gravitating from controls to more pure software. But a lot of the software I write is for controls and automation of machines.6 -
HR manager: we just realized we underpaid you a lot in the last 4 years, for all the job you are doing. You'll get 30% pay rise from now on.
Outer Me: thanks, great!
Inner Me: ....shit...
I got the raise, I looked for another job and found it in 4 months. 60% pay raise, better role.3 -
How many developers does it take to change a lightbulb? One. But you can guarantee the next developer who comes into the room will want to take it out and replace the bulb and the fixing because the previous developer did a shit job.
-
Fuck me! I'm frustrated as fuck, because I'm too scared to quit my job.
The boss just fired her assistant and now wants me to do her job. I'm INCAPABLE of doing phone calls and set up meetings; furthermore THAT ISN'T MY FREAKING JOB! Holy shit, what do I have to do?
I'm scared to not being able to find a job in few days/weeks. Any suggestion? Should I swallow it and keep working here while searching?
I aged badly in 2 years because of this job.11 -
>be me
>I hate front-end dev, but I can do it. I hate switching between markup, styling, and logic.
>I like back-end and low level programming
>stay unemployed for a year and a half, because all offers are for React and Angular
>find backend job, yay
>they actually make me work on front-end shit
>mfw pic related7 -
I opened a tutorial in youtube about web development , suddenly enter wix add
"You need a website why not do it yourself"
Me: no shit thats my job to work on a website but not on wix3 -
My first Dev job involved password resets. Quickly created a GUI for that shit and passed it off to IT support.
-
You are a consultant and wrote some easy scripts by copying code snippets together?
Good for you!
It makes your job easier?
Good for you!
You didn't care too much about UI because you only needed the job to be done?
That's fine!
BUT DON'T YOU DARE SELL THIS SHIT TO A CUSTOMER AND CALL YOURSELF A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER!
YOU ARE NO DEVELOPER!
YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HOW TO BUILD A RELIABLE SOFTWARE.
no one needs a solid database structure?
Object oriented programming is "just another hype"?
No one cares for the coding?
FUCK YOU, AND YOUR ATTITUDE!7 -
Rant
Told my boss I don't want to do the shit work. I need work that matches my job description.
He said ok. 🤷♂️3 -
I was hired as a programmer, but I feel like the correct term is reprogrammer, because no one can code for shit at my job...1
-
A friend offered me a new job in his company. Therefore I am going to quit my job. I like my current job, but the conditions are shit. Still I like my colleges and my clients. So I feel really bad for quiting.
The Job he offered me is pretty good, well paid and has many benefits for me. I like him and his company and are really excited to work with them. They are expecting big things of me and I'm scared to disappoint them.
Also I haven't told my boss about my plan to quit yet and because we become kind of friends in the time I work for her, it's an difficult talk for me.
😕3 -
Just started my new job.
Poorly defined requirements ✅
Expecting things to be done yesterday ✅
Poorly managed teams ✅
Terrible legacy code ✅
Half the development team is offshore ✅
Maybe I’m just selfish, but I need to work in an environment that has the following
A good technology stack.
A competent manager/team leader.
Competent colleagues.
Clearly defined documentation.
A proper onboarding process.
Why is this so difficult to find in organisations?12 -
Dude from old job who treated me like shit messaged me to implement 2 new features. I quit like half a year ago now. Ok i guess.6
-
Got a job offer that’s ~€1000 more than i make now. But idk i care very much about the company i work at right now so I think I have to do the right thing for my colleagues ..
I’m starting in january, see you cunts and your pile of shit codebase around, i’m out 👋3 -
Fuck I love my job, my boss and I are absolute food fanatics and talk about weird and wonderful things we cook...
He knows I bloody love curry so he brought some in for me to have for lunch and he's bringing me a shit load of fresh grown vegetables...
And to think I chose IT over being a chef.... (Still no regrets)6 -
Fuck all the companies that doesn't specify that they won't provide sponsorship for the applicant before job application.
I applied to this fucking piece of shit company that took me an hour. Created a custom cover letter and modified my CV just for them.
And they reply me with an email saying that they won't provide sponsorship and have rejected my application.
You motherfucker can refuse me in 5 minutes, but you piece of horseshit can't be bothered to write a simple point in your job description.
Fucking die in hell. Fuck you.1 -
YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!
I have nothing against teaching and showing someone starting in this field how to do things but FOR FUCKS SAKE, PUT INTEREST IN IT, I WON'T DO YOUR FUCKING JOB, I HAVE MY JOB, YO DO YOURS.
Jesus...fucking Christ, these kind of people always get on my nerves.2 -
That glorious moment when you remove a function from your Javascript.
is_internet_explorer()
It's one job was to detect and prompt a user about not using IE on this shit for a stain website - ironically built for IE 😂
You sir, will not be missed 🥳11 -
"Server deployment is automated from git, so dont merge things into the master branch without permission"
Oh ok
>i create new branch
>push unfinished code because i gotta hurry
>server breaks
Well golly gee seems like you did a shit job at automating7 -
Woke up this morning with a fuck this shit mood. I need to write test specs for a system I don't know shit about, and it seems no one who work with this system wants to talk to me, so I gave up and started devranting and reading a game dev book. Fuck this shitty job.2
-
9 months ago my boss promised I would not be working on RPA anymore.
Monday, at 12:00, my boss assigned to me the maintenance of 13 robots.
Monday, at 15:00, I was talking to a recruiter and discussing my next job.
I
HAD
ENOUGH
OF
THIS
SHIT.6 -
Why is every fucking job posting an “urgent opening”. HR retards in my country just throw “urgent” on the description almost out of habit because in their microscopic brains they believe it improves their chances of getting motivated candidates or some shit like that.
All it fucking does is prove to me that you are incompetent at scheduling recruitment.5 -
I have nothing wrong with being frequently asked what I am majoring in. However, I am going for COMPUTER SCIENCE not FUCKING IT. Please for the love of fuck stop suggesting I try to get a job with some shitty company as an IT guy. I have no interest in being an IT guy. I want to fucking code shit, not fix your shit and help you do basic shit that you're too fucking incompetent to figure out.25
-
Got a complaint from users of my project. It’s finally happened: people give a shit to tell me I’m doing a bad job. Let’s fucking gooooo3
-
Long time lurker, first time poster.
My goals for week 200:
1. Get engaged to my girlfriend
2. Finish my ems
3. Begin plans for launching my startup
4. Leave my deadend retail job, get a real job, and actually use the degree I spent 34k to get.
5. Keep learning cool new shit.1 -
!Dev
Hello guys, here is my first rant about my job. So, I work in marketing, mostly content and SEO as the main job and my 2nd job is a somewhat-somehow webgrafic design-something (blame my fiancee for this). This one is about my content job.
As a content, my main role is to translate information (health tech, tech or anything) in a somewhat comprehensive way so about anybody can read my articles. And boy, I love my job, the research part, the writing part, almost everything. But on some days I have to find a way to explain protozoa to normal people. Aaaaaand today I have to explain this shit!
Now, how the f*ck I will manage this, I have no darn clue but I am starting to learn how my dev fiancee feels when he has to explain some complicated stuff to his clients, I swear!8 -
Oh Christ.. just been looking for hosting companies here in Belgium to look for sysadmin positions.. one of the fucking companies posted this: "we provide Uptime-as-a-Service"
The fucking cringe!!! Uptime as a service! Everything including the only fucking job a hoster has, keeping shit up and running.. as a service.. fuck!4 -
Three years ago, tried to learn some JavaScript, failed miserably. Two years ago, managed to learn some Java through Udacity courses. Last year I started learning native Android development and got my first coding summer job. Now I'm back to learning JavaScript through Freecodecamp and that bitch ain't got shit on me no more!3
-
been a win user for all my career.
started a new job last monday, and had to switch to a mac.
damn, that shit fries my brain.
all the shortcuts, my brackets, everything is different.12 -
Now realizing the whole "Fuck this shit, I'm gonna become a barista" was literally a midlife crisis.
Now, how do I find my way back to a brand new PhD application? Or a research job... Or a dev job... Honestly, I'd take whatever.
Side note, after weeks of being on my feet and working 6-8 hours a day, I have lost exactly zero kilos. This was a very bad idea. 🤦
So, I'm not the smartest, but at least now I have had two careers. How many of you can say that you've had two different careers in your life, eh?11 -
So, it has been 2 months and a half since I started working. So far I learned two important things.
1. Clients are fucking retards. Like really fucked up shit. I don't even understand how they got the job.
2. Working for a company is nothing like an internship. I now realize much they treated me like shit during my internship compared to my current job. I did my internship in a startup and I now work in a big multinational company, I feel way more welcome in this company than in the startup
So far I really enjoy my work and I've been learning more for the past 2 months than during my studies.6 -
Fuck sake :(
So I just checked my bank to find out I'm in an extra £300 debt because my fucking letting agency took my rent AFTER I MOVED IT FOR £98 BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD IT.
Why the fuck is the world throwing turd after steaming turd at me, first the streets, then family, then job, then debt, now a constant barrage of shit. Just feel like ending it now so I don't have to deal with this shit anymore, fuck the human race and the shithole upside down society they've made :'(5 -
New job...
No introduction to project
No database overview
No documentation
No commented code
Shit, hope this isn't normal in the industry I have aimed the rest of my life at9 -
Everyday I fell my soul being sucked by this job.
We have too much liberty and it's all scattered, every fucking project uses a different framework.
Everything is a mess, no one seems to care and I'm feeling like shit for being the only one that seems to care.
Every time I start job hunting I fell depressed because of this nonsense bullshit they call job requirements.
Just wanna run away from this mess and never look back.13 -
Parked the car in a parking lot 15 mins before job interview. Plenty of time to spare.
Go to pay for parking.
Ticket machine doesn't accept cards. Fine, I have notes.
Ticket machine doesn't accept notes. Shit, I need to go get change quick.
FUCKING FUCKER DOESN'T ACCEPT £1 COINS WELL WHAT THE FUCK TO YOU ACCEPT THEN YOU FUCKING FUCK I'M GOING TO BE LATE FOR MY JOB INTERVIEW OR GET A £80 FUCKING PARKING FINEundefined fucking parking fucking job interview fucking pound coins interview went quite well actually9 -
When you can't rant about the stupid shit at work because your fucking idiot coworkers are on devRant and you can't afford to lose the job quite yet...2
-
So i got a message on a job platform today from a recruiter. So far nothing unusual. But what he wrote was really disgusting. It was basically something like this:
"Since many engineers now lose their jobs in the covid-19 crises, rest assured that we are still hiring! I work for a large company blablablabla..."
So he tries to play with your fear of losing your job in the coming depression. It's also quite possible, that he will also try to negotiate a shit salary for you. Since at least you have safe job now, right?
Fucking disgusting pig.1 -
Software developers are like a toilet. Just trying to do their damn job, but end up taking everyone's shit.
-
You dumb bitch. I will get to your fucking low level ticket when I’m done doing more important shit. How do you have a job if you don’t know how to use fucking excel?! GOOGLE IT you fuck!
-
Dear company, stop installing shit on my work laptop! I guess you love these antivirus and tracking software but I can't do my job with so much slowness.7
-
15 days and counting until I move to my new job working for the smartest person I know on something I'm passionate about. Holy shit! This is gonna happen!6
-
Oh for fucks sake on a horse raping twat of a week.
It’s like everything that could go wrong did go wrong, from people fucking up, to orders being fucked up in multiple systems to me wanting to break someone’s fucking nose for being a complete dumb fuck. Seriously how do people that do a job, day in and day out go completely fucking brain dead and fuck things up beyond fucking repair over hundreds of orders.
Sorry but FUCK this shit, it can wait till fucking Monday you cunt rash of a shit. -
I just fixed my first code issue in my first IT job ever! Holy fucking shit I'm almost senior software engineer by now!
That magic joy of knowing that my instructions will run on someone else's computer is just mind-blowing. -
Worst: Getting fired for talking too much shit about how the higher ups don’t know how to run a company.
Best: Getting hired at a way less stressful job that pays 50% more and realizing the last place was toxic as fuck.9 -
Set up a mail server for our office using one of those all-in-one mail server installations. It would keep denying connections every few days, so me, being the inexperienced shit I was, setup a cron job to restart the server at midnight everyday. It worked and still, to this day, it still works.1
-
I got my first job, first work is monday
I still worrying about this job might be one of the many small shitty company horror story.
I don't know shit about working, so I decided to find out myself. Wish me luck.7 -
Is this learning job cpu intensive or memory intensive?
I don't know and I don't give a flying fuck, because it's 6:20pm and I have not found any of my favorite servers free to rerun this shit the whole fucking week, so this server (which I have actually killed before, btw) can suck a dick and do its fucking job.
🎤🖐️11 -
FUCK ME!!
For a job, I have to create a form with more than 20 fields!! FUCK!!
The most shitty part is that I need to gather all the shit users fill in (if they even fill it in) and place in a shitty e-mail and send that to the client!! FUCK!!16 -
I made a huge mistake. Took a job at a startup that seemed promising but so far it's just been a nonstop shit show of watching/dealing with petulant children learn how to run a company. I fantasize about quitting, taking the whole dev team with me, and watching their dreams go up in smoke.2
-
spent a week on medical leave, came back to utter chaos? my boys, you can't do my shitty job for a week? lmao
everything was dropped halfway through the week, a lot of old data live, shit passing the deadline. and I don't do much, just press the freaking buttons 🤦♀️ -
Tooday ... Shit day
Anonce buisness shutdown and everybody losses is job including me 😥 happy holidays everybody ... Fuck this commercial badluck fucking snowy shit seasons !11 -
When you spend your day building a dark theme on stylish instead of doing your day job 😏
Ah the life of an easy day.
I shall sip on my pina Calada before the shit hits the fan tomorrow... oh wait, that's a public holiday🍹🧘♂️🏖10 -
Sure, I learned a bunch in school, but you don't really start learning until the first shit storm happens on the job. Then you realize how much you still don't know!2
-
Worked so many hours on a bug. Some manager thinks my code is too complicated. He asked my coworker to take my pr, then remove all logic that handles many edge cases. Now the shit is merged 😂. I hate my job8
-
Worst: working a job where I wasn't learning anything and had shit management.
Best: got a new job where I'm learning lots and has great management.5 -
So I found this consulting job a while ago thinking that some extra cash while studying would be nice to have.
I meet with the guy, a researcher trying to start a business up, good for him I think, maybe we'll hit it off, continue working, why not? Except he has no clue how to write working code, all he ever did was writing matlab scripts he says, thats why he hired me he says.
Okay, fine, you do your job I do mine.
He hands me the contract, its about comparing two libraries, finding out which one is better suited for his job, cool, plots and graphs everywhere.
Except this is an unpaid job. YOU WHAT?! It's a test job. FINE. At least it'll look good on my resume.
We talk about the paid part where I'm supposed to scale the two libraries, looks good, as expected from an ML engineering perspective. It comes to payment. The dude has no idea how taxes work, says he has a set amount to pay and not a penny more. I explain with examples how taxes are paid, how you get reimbursed for them and so on. Won't budge. Screws me over.
Opens the door for other jobs I think, he'll learn next time I think and take the job.
Fast forward a month, 90% of the job done, he adds a third thing to compare. Gives a github link to a repo with 2 authors, last commit a year ago. There are links to a 404, claiming compiled jars. Fuck.
Not my first rodeo, git clone that shit, make compile, the works. The thing uses libs that ain't in no repo, that would be too easy. Run, error, find lib, remake all the things, rinse repeat.
The scripts they got have hardcoded paths and filenames for 2 year old binaries, remake that shit.
It works, at least I get a prompt now. Try the example files they got, no luck, some missing unlinked binary somewhere, but not a name mentioned. Cross reference the shit outta the libs mentioned on readme, find the missing shit, down it.
Available versions are too new, THE MOLDING NUTCRACKER uses some bug in an old version of the lib.
I give up. Fuck this. This ain't worth the money OR time. Wanker... -
Linked Jobs:
- Notification : a new job just published.
*The title is interesting, I open it*
- 1430 candidates applied for this job.
Shit 🙄 -
I'm starting my new job in 10 days, but I don't have the proper internet access to feel really confident about it. My parents want me to move out of the house so they don't have to accommodate for my new job. I'm getting chemo in a few weeks. I'm really sick of fighting shit. Trusting in the plan though.4
-
A computer? We can't afford that shit.
Later...
Here son. Mom took this from her Job, they were going to trash it anyways. Go nuts.
Sister oh here are all my dev books. I am doing something else now.3 -
Final interview for a native Android remote job via Skype
Client: Should we make a hybrid app instead?
Me inside: fucking hybrid app, hell no, the job posting was for a native mobile dev, and hybrid apps are shit
Me: We could have so much flexibility and can adjust so much better in the future when adding features when we go for a native mobile app
*phew* I almost lost my calm back there -
I'm so fucking depressed. I've get 100/100 and 96/100 in the lastest exams but I can't keep going to the university because I don't have money to travel from my home to the building. I have to throw away my career and knowledge. I don't find a job in this fucking country.
Sorry for boring you with my shit, I had to write it.13 -
Just send my CV and shit to a recruiter that wanted it.
I do like my current job, but working with military/spaceshit feels tempting.1 -
How the actual fuck are we expected to know this many languages / frameworks / libraries for a web dev interview? This shit is RIDICULOUS. No one can honestly say they're half proficient at any of this stuff if they have to know ALL of it. Is this the only way to get a job these days? This sucks balls!7
-
No fuck off we don't need a team meeting about it.
We shouldn't need to go in front of a panel to begin with, let us get on with our job and let us automate the shit so sprint planning wouldn't be so difficult2 -
you motherfucking cocksucking ass wipes.
How fucking hard is it for you JS cockheads to have STABLE fucking code?
So hear I am, thinking through a side project for data extraction and loading to automate some shitty part of my job, that could be used by the broader team... and decide to use electron.... I know it's a clusterfuck, but this wouldn't be a big application, so against my better judgement I run:
npm install electron
npm start
...
Error: unknown spawn
🤷♂️ you had 1 fucking job... 1 fucking lousy shit stain of a job, and you can't even have something run out of the god foresaken box without someone debugging your shit.
Now who has a WORKING alternative to electron?10 -
Recently got out of the military now I work a full time job, have a wife and a 15 month old son, go to college full time online and try to learn Java and android development in my other time. I want to work as a developer so badly but I'm just not good enough yet. It's also super hard to know what level of knowledge you need to obtain a job because all entry level positions want you to have years of experience in 10 fucking languages and shit like what the fuck? No breaks, hungry to succeed.10

Having a job helps a lot when you've just had a really bad breakup. The work distracts you from the shit you're going through for at least 10 hours everyday. But the weekends become really depressing.3
-
I love Flutter. So simple. Such good docs. Not totally shit multiplatform. Flutter is my new favorite framework. Good job Google5
-
I want to propose a toast for al the people who is right now sitting on a shitty meeting listening to shit that has nothing to do with their job2
-
Literally every single day.
I remember when I was dying to get in the field. Now that I am in I realized there are a lot of bleh moments.
Love my job tho, but shit ain't nearly as exciting as I thought it would be lol3 -
Hey React, why won't you die?
Seriously, you are cumbersome to use, heavy as shit, awful syntax and do only the most basic reactive operations possible.
Why do you have to re-render un-changed components?
You were good when you came out, but please, get the fuck out of job requirements everywhere.17 -
How to make your employees feel like shit 101:
Continually praise a small group of people for doing something for a few days that someone else does as their full time job. Call what that team did "unlike anything else in the software development world"
I am soooo fucking pissed right now. You can guess what side of this I am on.5 -
Was an aspiring 2nd grade student then, still a newbie in databases and stuff.
Managed to work with bossy motherfucker who didn't give a flying fuck about proper management, team culture, job roles and everything and treated people like shit.
The big boss wanted me to develop the ecommerce website that integrates with 1c (complete and utterly garbage buggy ass dbms with RUSSIAN SYNTAX, nuff said) and with its own crm to track every employee and even real time chat. He also wanted it to be a kind of online medical wikipedia. And he wanted me to take a professional photo of each and every fucking item for this website, somewhere around 5 thousand photos.
He offered me around 800 bucks for all that job. No, not monthly. He wanted me to do all that shit alone, for 800 bucks and expected it to be up and running in less than two months.
Gently told him to fuck off. Quit that job the same day.2 -
v2.0.22 is now officially LIVE in GMT+2. Congrats and good job everybody!
Let's not fuck this one up, shall we? Let's keep our shit together this time.5 -
Recently I came across a job advert that literally said:
"If you're still full of ideals and will to work, go look for a job elsewhere!!!"
Man, how fucked up is your company if this is how you promote it? Sad thing is that even though their website looked like shit, they boasted about big government projects there.2 -
i wish i could half-ass work, but instead I'm a huge nerd who does a good job and people are giving me more shit to do now4
-
New job, first day after roughly 5 months doing absolute shit.
Oh and I got a garden now.
Let’s see...2 -
awww shit dog, I got the job! Now they wanna know which OS I want installed on my company computer. Wondering if maybe I'm still secretly being interviewed....7
-
!rant
Walked into the networking area to visit my network guys and sys admins.
They just got a whoooole bunch of equipment.
Shit looks intimidating af man. Mad respect for you sys admins and networking people. Seems like a really cool job, difficult and challenging at the same time!19 -
I haven't ranted since I joined my current job back in late 2018 because I've been in absolute bliss, extremely happy and feeling in the right place.
...And now here I am: due to some corporate shit we had to migrate from Slack to Teams and man TEAMS IS A SHIT.11 -
I am a pretty well of dev with a nice job and a nice salary. Yet I still suffer from imposter syndrome. It's nice to get on here and read rants about shit I've also has issues with or just feel better about myself because I wasn't the one the person that rant was about. Cheers to you devrant1

Web development:
I'm honestly happy that my toxic "senior" colleague is gone.
- Didnt learn a single thing in the last 10 years. Used godamn serverside rendering with Jquery / plain JS for a highly interactive business Web Application. Yeah boii, save that UI state in the relational database, good job.
- Every error in his shit was the error of someone else.
- Manipulative as hell. Type of guy that is your best buddy to gather information.
- Blocked entire technical progress in the Web department by manipulating people. Understandable. I mean if your legacy shit is gone...
- Kept backend developers from doing their job with unjustified complaints about structures... etc to justify that he needed an insane amount of time to implement simple things.
- Cried for every shit to be documented to the last bits. Did never do any documentation himself.
Fuck these people, honestly.1 -
I loved my previous job. It paid shit but I learned so much. Starting from prototyping to production. DevOps, Development etc. I started a new job 1 year ago. It pays great but man, I only do “if-else” nothing else.
My old boss contacted me for some contract job because the dev that he hired after me, not only he didn’t do anything, but broke production and all other systems on a Friday before going on vacation. So the company went old school with excel spreadsheet to keep track of orders.
I accepted the contract job and man. I’ve learned so much these past 2 weeks, working only ~ 10 hrs / week.4 -
Yay, now I know what that windows update was about... oh no, this isn't another "fuck windows, update broke shit again" post.
This is a "wtf, you dodgey shit bags" kind of post, "you" managed to install Skype, install this stupid ducking "meet now" service - which is fucking hidden (anyone have any pointers? Google's not doing its job yet), and now I have to uninstall office completely to remove Skype 🤦♂️
Why won't you fuckers let it go, didn't we ALL move to teams recently?rant skype for business meet now - isn't that a google service? i don't want your fucking skype ooh i have skype credits fuck m$5 -
I can’t remember shit
My code editor helps me a ton!!
I have most documentation offline.
Ask me to do shit in a job interview without Google or any reference material then the joke is on 🤡2 -
Imma be real with youse, i havent been posting shit cause i have a great job with great teammates and great management. Like it a rant that i cant rant but thats a good thig i guess. But ion wanna see devrant community goin down the gutter cause old members r leavin so imma stick around and post stupid shit in the comments as usual. So youse can stop bothering me bout bein inactive hmmm3
-
Is it so much to ask for ability to do my job remotely. I work on a fucking computer, I can do this shit at home. I don't need to drive 50 miles there and back to do my job.
Flexibility is a thing.5 -
When you are reading job requirements for a dev job and they put a shit ton emphasis on MS Office. I remember a phone interview where they asked skill level for Word, Excel and Outlook.7
-
I would literally rather find a new job than have to build software that accommodates IE/Edge
That is all.1 -
Microservices is a buzzword and everyone is using it to modernize their company and themselves.
Add a cloud in the context and boom, you are equivalent of some Tech gaint.
Well then, if you say so why don't you implement or try to implement in proper way. Use the right tools, "opensource" if you have heard of it has a ton of stuff right for the job.
But no, all you do is write the same old services in Java, put a label of "cloud native" and stick it out so proudly that clients think "oh a new shiny thing".
Putting out poster of "Immediate job requiment for Microservices" and staring blank when the candidate tries to explain how the Microservices work, but you know only about EJBs and you are sitting in interview room wondering what he is really talking about. I dint hear a single word of Java because that is all I know. Then finally rejecting the candidate because he dint say EJB in the interview.
The point is, some shit people don't want to improve themselves nor let anyone improve. Fear of being replaced by a younger generation of developers has plauged the seniors in ways no one can think of.3 -
me: Dad I got a job! It's...
dad: great! you can help pay mortgage!
me: oh shit, should have said nothing..1 -
So my coworker is gonna change computer and for the past two weeks is "annoying" me to install Ubuntu for her...
Look ... I'm a dev just like you... Get your shit together and do it yourself or wait.
So Wednesday I gave her the task to backup her shit because I'm gonna do it today... Guess what she told me? That I'm better at it and if I could do do for her...
Sure.. Yeah... Gonna rsync your /home/user folder to the new machine and fuck you if you loose anything, that's not my fucking job you useless piece of shit.2 -
Why the fuck they keep insisting a backend developer to do frontend shit?
No fucking shit I'm slow on this crap. And i told them several times it's not my forte. And they keep inisting to keeping a high standard blah blah blah
Ffs just hire a frontend already.
I'll find another job. I don't care at this point.6 -
Today, I looked at my company’s job description of my own profile.
Shit is full of buzzwords.
Wonder if that’s the case everywhere. Gives me some confidence to just apply to jobs without worrying about ticking all the points in the descriptions.
(For those wondering whether I did not see the description while applying for my current job.. actually, I saw it but didn’t take it too seriously because I just wanted to get a dev job.)3 -
working on a crappy legacy site written by an invalid. The job was to replicate an existing site for a school with the original's permission. I fix a shit ton of bugs and update the original.
For the first time ever I got a phone call from the original's owner to complain that I had fixed their site -.-
leave things broken from now on!5 -
A call centre manager is dictating the direction for the development of an app I'm working on.
Everything is working perfectly and then I'm asked to implement logic that makes sense to noone else but her. Then a week later shit breaks. Then I'm blamed. Then I implement a "fix". Repeat this cycle over and over.
I've started looking at local postings for a job in construction.1 -
I work full time in backend web development and my sister that's in retail makes double what I make in a year... I need a new fucken job.8
-
It's been a year since I first entered the world of development.
Let's see what I have accomplished so far:
Learned:
Java, J2EE, Node.js, Python, Django, Android, Angular, html/css, Rxjs, RxJava, Linux, MySQL, Mongodb, Docker, Heroku, AWS
Projects:
All unfinished.
Job:
Still working in IT security goddammit.
Fucking hell. Why am I so good at learning but shit at working?6 -
Worst: Getting struck with Corona when moving to a European country via job, everything went shit, visa late, starting job is late and never certain, for 8 months I was in limbo.
Best: Finally got job and moved, been playing video games all day because it is government job and no way to check what I am doing. Fuck it, I dont like software development as my salary job, just as hobby.
Bye, have to play game.6 -
Remember that time I did an interview and it went horribly and I wanted to die then got called back and aced that shit? Well I got the job. Pay is bunkers too. Excited to be part of a new very cool project.2
-
Today's my birthday... As usual, I worked in my office... At morning (approx 11:30AM) I received a call from my boss yelling cause a shit deadline and for some shit that I didn't sent to him (I already sent, the bastad was in vacation and didn't saw it)... His wife wished me happy birthday but the mother fucker didn't say a shit instead yelling during all day... Our relationship sucks cause he's a fucking bastard that doesn't know a shit of development process and I am done of his stupid shit... I fucking need to change my job!!!!13
-
Well, shit is kinda hitting the fan literally.
Two of my four clients are closing down, and it all happened in a month.
Not really fearing for job security, but now I've scheduled an interview with nVidia that I dismissed two years ago. Let's see how it goes.5 -
Wellp lately so much shit happened with parents and school that id like to (atleast see my options for) get(ting) a job in order to be independent.
What could work, knowing im a backender, coding in cpp, but open for other langs ?
I have no degree, but my github repos lol8 -
Last night before the final dismissal of my current job.
Being nervous as shit and thinking of how it can go.4 -
Want:
AI that can be smart enough to interface with recruiters and companies during a job search. A way to weed out the shit companies and recruiters.
If they can do this, we can too!
Did I just come up with a service?2 -
I've got an email with this statement:
[...] If you are interested please reply with the following details if possible in an hour [...]
Defuq with those people 😑4 -
Started a new job on Monday. STILL DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE FUCKING SERVERS I NEED TO ANYTHING. Holy fucking shit I'm annoyed. Fuck you corporate bullshit. I already feel like quitting.3
-
I've been using visual studio for years and always found debugging pretty fun. At my new job I have to use xcode and FUCK DEBUGGING IN THAT ILLEIGBLE SHIT TIER DEBUGGER. and fuck objective-c, at least you can ignore the objective part and just code c..
I never thought I would say this, but damn, I miss Microsoft.9 -
Coding tests. I hate them. On any timed test, I completely lock up and forget everything I know. I'm amazed I've gone 26 years in my career without being fired for not taking tests well. Because, as we all know, that's the core task of every single job. Taking timed tests and shit.8
-
I feel like I am getting years older every day in this job..
Could someone help me find a mobile developer position (Android I prefer)..2 -
High paying unstable job at a startup vs. Low paying stable job at a huge company.
I'm currently at the latter and I'm expecting a job offer (hopefully!) from the other one today.
Low paying job:
Pros:
1) big name. (their stock has recently gone down tho)
2) insurance and stuff.
3) quite stable.
4) can re-skill and move to another team.
5) work from home.
Cons:
1) shit technologies.
2) lots of fake "we are a family" kinda crap.
3) shit pay for a huge company.
4) boring. I feel very unmotivated.
5) obsolete systems and management processes.
6) it would take years to save for a car even with my upcoming promotion pay raise.
High paying job:
Pros:
1) awesome salary. Like 6x my current.
2) up-to-date technologies. Something I'm passionate about.
3) team lead position.
4) I can buy a car in a couple of months.
5) might get a visa sponsorship in the future.
6) small team, my voice will be heard.
Cons:
1) it's a startup so it can go down anytime.
2) no insurance or any kinda benefits.
3) no work laptop.
I'm kinda in the beginning of my career, so my gut is telling me to risk it and go for the unstable job.
It will be my first time to be an "official" team lead and honestly idk how I'll go about it yet.
Which one would you go for?
And wish me luck! The interview went pretty well but I'm dreading for some reason.17 -
concious inclusion training: we want you to talk and share about a bunch of shit that's illegal to ask in interviews: age, sex, orientation, family status, religion, values, gender identity, ethnicity etc
what the fuck do any of these things even have to do with the job?
im confused but whatever6 -

1) keeping my shit together until my 3 month notice period is done.
2) moving cross country.
3) starting a new job with a new tech stack which I'm not as experienced in. -
Fucking frustrating piece of shit colleges. I’m fucking tired of losing face covering up your assess! Do your fucking job properly you mutherfuckin-piece-of-shit! Fucking full of excuses!! Own what you fucking do!!!3
-
I spent 5 hours last night from 20:00 to 01:00 rewriting a class so it was understandable, testable and correct. It's not great but a shit load better than the pile of shit that was there before.
I'm actually quite proud of it. Of course, it'll be totally unseen by anyone but me. Is this the best enterprise Devs can hope for, lonely satisfaction of a job well done?2 -
I got enough Today so I marked my linkedin profile with “looking for new opportunities”.
It’s actually cool you can pick up to 5 job positions, location, form of employment and let know only to recruiters not all of your contacts that you are open for a new “opportunities ”.
I picked technical consultant, software architect, technical lead, lead software engineer and principal software engineer.
Time will tell if I will be able to find something better then I am dealing with right now.
Customer I am consulting for is cool but the company I work for went over the years from cool to get the fuck out right now cause we only hire managers and people without any knowledge.
It’s probably cause they hired many people from one company that was acquired, probably those who know everything about nothing.5 -
If you put “up to” in front of “proposed salary”, which ofc is a very high number, I put your job offer in the trash. Just put the range or fuck off.
I will never understand how the little brain of recruiters works.
They write shit like we weren’t smart enough to see it.5 -
Right now what i want to do is just quit everything, move somewhere else, get a job and never fucking look back. Im sick of all these projects college dumps on me, the idiots im surronded with, my job, people who think im interested in their fucking research. I just want a 8 to 5 job and after 5 im fucking done and nobody calls me about how long will the next release take for projects i dont give a shit about.
In other news i just started my thesis yay.1 -
I have an old manager that I worked with at an old job that got me shit canned for a failed web sockets implementation. He works at a new company and wants to talk.
What should I do?
A) I don’t trust this fucker. Ignore him.
B) Forgive and forget and try to get the job?
C) Something else.
D) SWAT the motherfucker.7 -
Yay your shit loads in a second on the latest iphone 69 and samsung 30 or whatever, so does everything, that's not a testament to your awesomeness. Why the fuck don't you test and benchmark on low end devices!?? Guess I'll optimize your shit myself... Oh and what's this? FUCKING SPAGHETTI EVERYWHERE!!!! You fuck knuckle find another job cunt.1
-
Today I solved issues I didn't cause and took International phone calls while on the toilet to help corporate.
Bug fixing can be a shit job, at least I was in the right place for it.1 -
First day of my first developer job is Monday. Oh shit. Nerves are starting to set in. What if I’m not good enough for the job? I mean I didn’t the coding assessment they wanted me to do. And passed. Which is why they gave me the job. But fuck man I’m nervous! I have never had a job like this before. And it’s remote after my first week. Oh shit.8
-
Monday morning we found out our main event queue hadn't processed since late Wednesday afternoon. Shit was hitting the fan and we were stumped. What had changed?!?. Why wasn't the queue processor running?!?
Turns out a server restart had killed the job (no worries there, surely?!) but turns out the job checked for a system flag on disk to stop it running multiple instance or in this case as the flag was still present any instance at all. Got to love the little things that really screw you over.6 -
Just arrived for an interview for my very first coding job. Everyone wish me luck! I'm gonna fuck up their shit for real. 😂🤣🤣5
-
I'm very frustrated at my job. Nobody gives a shit to work and don't have technical knowledge. My colleague keeps on battering the peers. And colleagues are discussing everything without me.
So trying to switch company but no luck in a year. And I have stopped working at my job. Gives me serious anxiety.6 -

Shit.
Shit shit shit.
Accepted to do an "outside-of-work" job, which is about migrating a website from a CMS to another one, and I have extremely badly estimated the time it would take... Now the guy highly expects the website to be fully delivered at the date I told him... Which is in 21 days... I also lost two weeks since he wanted to migrate to Magento, but being inexperienced on it, barely managed to make it run. Managed to convince him to go on Prestashop... Much easier but so much to do, for such a "small" site (6-7 templates)
I think I need to find some help, and quickly :/ :/3 -
IBM Websphere stack (Rational, Portal, etc)...I had to use it in my first job in a bank. A very disgusting pack of shit software...From these days i hate IBM with passion.
-
To a fellow dev on my team; If you notice a difference between the spec and the database structure, just fucking talk to the BA! Don’t code something that fails and put it into QA.
And constantly saying “It’s not my job” is a severely career limiting move you dogmatic little shit.2 -
Month passed so I looked at job offers and I am tired again.
All of them look the same and all of them look like crap. Some require stupid online tests preparation ( cause everyone likes to traverse tree 10000 times a day ).
Seriously I think I will go to supermarket and work there.
It’s more pleasant then getting input and pushing it in some stupid places all over again.
Finding some shit in shit pile, then moving this shit pile back and forth between different shit holes.
AI should start writing this stupid code, robots should provide food and build shelter.
The sooner the better for all of us.1 -
When I was fresh out of school at my first job, we worked with an external consultant that refused to answer my emails directly since I was only a lite shit kid. Had to send all my emails thru my boss to get a reply.
-
The most scary thing happens to me is that I wrote a code in staging without any bugs and breaks in production... fuck4
-
I’m extremely frustrated with my job situation. I want to code, I absolutely love building stuff with software. My current job is a “tech” job, but involves absolutely zero coding. I don’t know what else I can do to stand out more or make myself a better candidate.
-I’m a new-grad with a flawless in-major GPA (computer science major)
-I have other past internship experiences that involve coding
-I frequently do my own side projects and post them to GitHub
-I work well on teams (life-long and collegiate athlete)
I apply to tons and tons of places only to get no response, or to have a single fucking interview and then get dropped
Fuck this stupid shit I am so frustrated8 -
TLDR; of my current job:
Deal with shit that nobody wants to deal with, if I manage to make something good out of it, prepare that the credit will be stolen.
At a previous workplace, people wanted me to deal with shit that they wanted to blame me for it, so it’s kind of an improvement. But I wish I could find a normal job where I either do normal work or just have someone that would have my back and just say “idkhow did this” or “let’s bring them to this meeting as they might be able to help with the cool stuff too”.
Also, remember that one of my parents has cancer? I won’t be able to be there for the surgery, due to things out of my control. A lot of things feel out of control lately…1 -
For fuck's sake , linkedin , i use you for professional connections and job shit , why the fuck are you showing me some rarely met person's birthday?
-
I AM ABOUT TO KICK SOME PROFESSORS ASSES!!!!!!!!!!
THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS ARE MAKING GO MAD BEYOND MY BOUNDS WITH THERE MOTHERFUCKING STUPIDITY AND SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
LISTEN YOU FUCKS I WORK AS A PROGRAMMER TO PAY FOR MY FUCKING TUITION. NO IT IS NOT A PART-TIME JOB. I FUCK UP MY SCHEDULE SO I CAN CAME HERE TO THIS SHIT LEARNING SOMETHING BECAUSE YOU FUCKERS DO NOT HAVE A LECTURE AFTER HOURS.
SO WE I SAID THAT I CAN ONLY CAME TO THIS CLASS AT THIS TIME AND DAY OF THE WEEK I AM NOT BULLSHITING YOU.
SO DO US A FAVOR AND STOP BEING SO FUCKING STUPID AND GIVING ME THAT CYNICAL SMILE YOU PIECE OF SHIT.
FUCK YOU FUCKER AND YOUR PIECE OF SHIT CLASS.2 -
My shit job sucks so much.
How bad, you ask?
Well, let me give you some perspective.
It sucks so bad, that I took a small freelance job ... not much $$$ ... and I actually liked it.
Normally they suck so bad and get so way out of hand that I end up regretting it. Work sucks so bad, it made me happy to something else. -
Freshly failed gloriously my degree in interaction design. Now I stumbled into a new job, doing a fullscale company advertisment campaign on cybersecurity for 6500 employees. Alone. Writing concept, gathering stakeholder, requirements and shit. I'm scared.4

Interviewer said that passing technical interview means that 90% of the time I will get the offer.
In the final interview with management, I can't answer some questions because I didn't study. Isn't final interview should just about getting to know each other like hobby, interest, talking about company products?
They gave me some puzzle to solve :(
After that, they wait another 1 week just to tell me I don't pass. Why the fuck they wait 1 week just to tell me that? They should just tell me 1 day after!
I still have other job openings right now, but the job searching has been very depressing.
I will give it like 1 more month. But if I can't get any leads, I will just give it up. Maybe tech is not the right job for me.
I will just go back to my old job in non-tech. It's not exactly my dream job, but at least they don't treat me like shit like this.9 -
Holy shit. Just logged back in the devRant WebApp after a couple of moths and woah. What a nice design over there. Good job devRant team.

Recruiter: we're looking for someone who knows .Net and "JAVA practices".
Me: <WTF is "java practices">
Me: <googling "java practices">
Me: dear recruiter, I know dotNet and good programming practices but there isn't thing like "java practices" in dotNet.
Recruiter: <no shit given>
Me: <why such incompetency is in charge of my potential future job?>7 -
Applying Occam's razor and I might be wrong..
Hiring a candidate and job hunt, both are fucking exhaustive process.
We, as a human race, have aimed for Moon and Mars but are unable to solve the problem at hand which can save millions of hours each year reflecting in immediate cost savings.
Here's my (idealistic) solution:
A product to connect job seekers and recruiters eliminating all the shitty complexities.
LinkedIn solved it, but then hired some PMs who started chasing metrics and bloated the fuck out of the product.
Here are some features of the product I am envisioning:
1. Job seeker signs up and builds their entire profile.
2. Ability to add/remove different sections (limited choices like certifications, projects, etc.), no custom shit allowed because each will have their own shit.
3. By default accept GDPR, Gender Identity, US equality laws, Vetran, yada yada..
4. No resume needed. Profile serves as resume. Eliminate the need to build a resume in word or resume builders.
5. Easy updates and no external resume, saves the job seeker time and gives a standard structure to recruiters to scan through eliminating cognitive load.
6. Recruiters can post their jobs and have similar sections (limited categories again).
7. Add GDPR, Vetran, etc. check boxes need basis.
8. No social shit. Recruiters can see profiles of job seekers and job seekers can see jobs. Period.
9. Employee working in Google? Awesome. Will not show Google recruiters thier profile and employee such job posts.
10. No need to apply or hunt heads. System will automatch and recommend because we are fucking in AI generation and how hard it is to match keywords!!
11. Saves job seekers and recruiters a fuck ton of time hunting the best fit.
12. This system gets you the best job that fits your profile.
Yes, there are flaws in this idea.
Yes, not all use cases are covered.
Yes, shit can be improved and this is hypothetical.
But hey! Surely doable with high impact than going on Moon or Mars right now.
Start-up world has lost its way.12 -
First day of job. Im doing jack shit. They just make me watch udemy courses of Azure and linux shell and bash scripting all for devops purposes so they can pay a microsoft certificate for me to pass and get certified and they pay for udemy courses. Im basically getting paid to watch courses on the job10
-
Started learning React recently cause the job I applied for reqires it.
So far so bad.
I...I don't get it.
It might be that I'm just starting out, but I can't see any practical use for it. I don't GET it.
Ugh..never been this frustrated (which I'm guessing isn't helping the learning process.)
Gonna have to wing the shit outta that interview.7 -
With the invention of pip every project done with python just fucken angers me. Like mostly nothing fucken works if there is a single .py file in there. You can put your easy-install.sh up your ass if it just ~tries~ to install shit via pip before because IT WONT WORK FUCK THIS SHIT!
STOP USING PYTHON FOR PROJECTS YOU RELEASE PLS CUS SHITS UNREADABLE AND WONT WORK ON MY MACHINE. MAKE ROOM FOR PROJECTS MANAGED BY NPM OR SHIT LIKE THAT WHERE `npm install` ACTUALLY DOES IT'S JOB THANKS I'M ANGRY AF.
WHAT DOES COLLECTING EVEN MEAN AND WHEN IS IT DONE DUDE?!5 -
I was pulling background data from a job in PowerShell, and it kept coming up short from the same, final section of data that I just KNEW should be there.
Fiddled with the primary application for hours... HOURS! Then, I checked the log. There it was in all its Glory, tee'd out to the log during job execution.
What. The. Shit.
So, it seems that, since I was asynchronously pulling data in a loop keyed to the job status and had inserted a little sleep statement in the wrong place, I'd been missing the last second's worth of data. You just couldn't tell most of the time.
Nice.
5 minutes later it was working fine with a new loop/control structure. Jesus.1 -
I just don't get it. I've done web stuff for 20 years, but these days I'm expected to learn god knows how many command line tools just to stay relevant in the field. I fear the day I have to leave this crummy company making small websites, I just don't have what it takes to learn all that shit and get a job elsewhere.
Webpack, NodeJS, Angular... when I look at their docs I just get lost in all the jargon and I think to myself: I would rather stock shelves like a chum then learn all this goddamn shit over and over and over, my generation can't afford shit anyway so there is no point in doing the absolute minimum to survive.
Meanwhile the recruiters on LinkedIn all talk like the jobs they have are like a visit to fucking Disneyland compared to the soulless mindfucking grind a job entails. GAHHHH!1 -
If a PM ever tells me to rip the website template of the internet from the client because we don't have credentials to the existing server I'M GOING TO KICK HIS ASS. Maintaing this PIECE OF SHIT IS A FUCKING PAIN.
The other guys did a really shitty job, would be better to redo-it from the ground up and save a lot of time :((( -
Know your shit and don't give a fuck.
Sometimes interviewers are just idiots or monkeys.
I dunno, I've had a few interviews where it just doesn't click. While I'm sitting there, I say to myself: this is nothing like what you said on your job description.. and I've seen all your "technical questions" on Google -
How greedy can you get?
> boss takes half assed gdpr project : branch xyz
> branch xyz requires deprecated version of npm/node
> I re-install node this time with deprecated version
> Wow this node is configured with ant build
> ECMA 5, config but code is shit as fuck
> still I get the job done , cannot test it because code is shit as fuck and I will never any thing to fix that un healthy code
> code doesn't run on client side,
> no shit Sherlock
> get a call from boss, it urget look in it and fix it -
enrolled in a maaters of CS with a concentration in A I and it has all been bullshit. poorly made lectures, retarded lecturers, unwilling to help staff and just overall shit experience. Thinking about switching concentration before they ruin any hope i have for A.I before it becomes too late. legit considering if i need the mcs for anything else than job prospects for which i already have a really good paying job for which it is virtually impossible to get rid of me(i hold the entire department) man........ really want to drop out4
-
I shit you not: Today, a random recruiter phoned a company I work for, asked to speak to me, and then tried to offer me a job :| .Wtf is wrong with you people?! I'm not searching for a job anywhere... Turns out they found me on Linkedin...
-
I’m so fucking tired of having to work with shitty code day in and day out and not being able to optimize it. I want to quit so bad without having a job lined up… I fucking hate being a developer now thanks to these fucking pieces of shit.6
-
Turns out my colleagues don't understand how useMemo works. They would try to memoize a value and then, in the dependency array, use an object that gets rebuilt on every rerender.
Good job, guys. I wonder how many silent infinite loops we have because of that shit.1 -
I try to do one thing, I try to make one thing a little better and the universe shovels shit in my face. I’m just trying fix all this old outdated shot and I keep getting shit on in so many ways. I’m trying so hard to not become a bitter angry old man but damn if I don’t understand the bitter angry old mans motives right now. Fuck this ongoing onslaught of crashes and shit shows.
-
The shit code I wrote before my cs degree is marginally better than the shit code I write now. The lack of of improvement is related to the shit job I got after my degree. Cs degree did teach me a lot of good oo concepts and design.... That I rarely use due to shit legacy code I maintain.1
-
I got a phone interview!!! Hope it goes better than my last one :') that one was for a web developer position and they asked me about stack vs queue and memory allocation. Idk why but I sure as shit didn't get the job.2
-
If you're going to keep compromising pics of yourself on your company PC, at least make an attempt to hide them. Seeing your "tiny Tim" is not part of my job description. Devs aren't paid enough for this shit. 🙃🔫
-
Today after 6 years I used windows in my cousin's laptop for the first time... I felt really bad for the people still using windows..
Tried to fix a dll problem in her system and still no idea how to fix that shit...
Great job Microsoft...11 -
You see this? that's Apple fucking up! Uploaded a release and their server could not do its job correctly... Now I need to do another build just to be able to upload the app again
It's been processing for two hours, and there is another build that is processing for a week!
Not only their XCode is shit but also their iTunesConnect is shit, can they just rename the company to Shit, cuz that's what they seem to be best at doing...2 -
Worthless people. Goddamnit I've had enough of this shit. If you're not going to contribute, get the fuck off my team and take a job that's more in line with your qualifications.2

Article 13 has gone through.
If you have a startup idea, move outside the EU to avoid millions of dollars of copyright fines.
Get the memes, get tor, get vpns, research how people get around the great firewall of china, because the EU just asked china to hold its beer.
I pity whoever's job it is to implement this piece of shit.12 -
Selectively searching for an ocaml or scheme job cuz I'm in my 30s and life's too short to waste on all the other nerve wrecking shit. I'd do Haskell but hell might as well freeze before I find something2
-
To the newbies out there, those who just study and work hard, do you ever feel like you can’t do it? Like what the fuck is the point. You work your shit job and get home and code but kinda just look at your code editor for hours without typing anything? There are times I feel like that. I stay up all night and go to work at a shit job where were accused of stealing shit and it’s like, dude shut the fuck up, but when you get home, you know you’re gonna be a Developer one day, but you just don’t know how you’re gonna get there. Keep on pushing. It’ll come and you can leave you’re shit job. I promise that.rant coding javascript java code keep learning fuck webdev work ranting engineering web development fuckem

I am now sorry for managers. Management is a miserable, horrible job where you have to deal with unending amounts of bullshit from all sides, and run a kindergarten where every other employee will give you their super special list of things that they don't like, or triggers them. No wonder all managers are terrible, who would ever want to do this shit job?
-
!rant
Has any of you ever felt like you were going straight towards a burnout if you keep doing your actual job but consequently don't have any energy left during spare time to learn something new, new skills you would need to land a better job? Think changing programming "branch".
How/what did you do? I'm thinking of trying to get my boss to let me work less hours... But I honestly don't know if it would be enough.
Any advice?
Sorry for the downer post, I'll be back with shit my colleagues say soon enough ;)4 -
My team is the meme of the coding dinosaurs.... they think git basics like working in a branch and doing pr's and not commit directly to master is a "theory", they use old and unknown shit for everything and even when said shit has a better way of doing something they just choose the worst one. At the moment they have me changing all the files in multiple apps from tab indentation to spaces because this generates a code coverage issue on sonar instead of just deactivating that check... why the fuck did I take this job whyyyyyy2
-
I talked to the client how functionality should look like on UI, draw a mockup, designed and made changes to db schema, created REST api, made documentation how to use it, told frontend developer to make changes on frontend application according to the documentation and mockups. Still no one have fucking clue how to do it. Fucking testers can’t write anything, only clicking.
So I sent curl code how the fucking request should look like exactly then resolved bugs they reported as won’t fucking fix because I will not be also making fucking frontend. Probably they even don’t know what curl is. What a fucking fuck.
And that’s what I am mostly doing from Monday till Friday to keep this project going.
It’s cause client are nice guys and we are doing something good, not some fucking ai, blockchain, big data, financial scam everyone is wanking around.
And friends are asking, why I drink. -
It's been a little bit over two weeks since I quit my first job, thought I would share some stories 😁
I started my very first job in the middle of August (last year) and my duties were to fix some issues on front-end files. You can see my previous rants to see how long were these files 😐
So after 2/3 months I managed to get my shit done, started learning Vue on my own to implement it to new projects (and done it successfully) and learn something about shitty clients who don't know how to live and don't know what do they want.
When I quit the job on the last day of April, I was so happy to end it mostly due to this one specific client who were able to turn happy innocent coding of a great project into hellish shit. Plus there were some issues I noticed with some people I worked with (like they were sending these sexist memes which weren't funny at all 🙄)
TL;DR if you feel that your job post is not for you or that is doesn't make you feel happy or comfortable, don't be afraid to walk away. I did and I don't regret it 😉 -
Best thing about DevRant is: I have 2nd job that's not a developer company and all my colleges doesn't understand a jack shit about code and the culture. But worst of all is that everyone there is "shoulder spy's.... So i can feel safe when i surf DevRant during the breaks and enjoy my breaks with DevRant2
-
Worst: job insecurity, i. e. "due to Covid, unfortunately we can only renew you for 1 month for now" which kept on going from March till October and during which all sensible colleagues left.
Best: finally leaving this piece of shit management in October for a better position.1 -
Summary of My Experience With Recruiters
1. They do everything until they get a phone talk. They also go cold turkey if they don’t have what you want, no politeness if you are not useful to them.
2. They are OK with your highball salary range at first
3. Once they got that you are hireable, they show their true nature
3a. Trying to lower my forever salary expectation to guarantee an offer and their one time bonus
3b. They scare you implying I would be fired from job anyways, if I don’t like some aspects of the current job
3c. They call you multiple times a week with no scheduling beforehand
3d. They lecture me on why salary shouldn’t be a big reason for job change(bitch don’t even…)
3e. They say shit like I want you to get this job(dude, you say that to every job seeker)
I will add more if I remember. What are your other bad experiences4 -
Polish Translation for Microsoft Visual Studio...
Hope you figure out what is wrong witch that shit
Good Job Bill...6 -
My job is paying a consultant to do some Node.js training for a few days. In our downtime the guy was telling us about his daughter whom he’s been teaching computer type shit at home for years. He says she’s got every cert offered by CompTIA. She’s 16 years old. That’s demoralizing af. I’ve got zero certifications. I’ve gotta get on top of this shit...4

First time ranter here;
I'm an aspiring developer, undergoing a bootcamp right now. But to pay the bills I recently started working in accounting in an insurance company, registering payments from ~10 years ago (my first office job, retail and restaurants were all my previous experience). The job is boring, I feel like nobody gives a shit about it, most of the time I have no idea what I'm doing, I don't get ANY feedback about my work... I just have to survive a few more months until I get a developer job or an internship, but good grief, it feels like such a distant future...1 -
Recruiter contacted me about a job via email. Being the intrepid dev, I GlassDoor'd them. Nothing but shit reviews, so I told him no thanks.
"Oh we've seen the reviews and we're really trying to get our stuff together."
"Not on my back, you won't. I'm not going from the frying pan into the fire. "
He sent me more email asking me to reconsider. If you have shit reviews and have to beg people, uhh, are you that stupid to think anyone will come work for you?2 -
They want to make a project fast, give me an unexperienced frontend dev to guide late in the project, gave design a shit ton of time and cut my hours by 25%. Good luck. I don't even care if the project is late and or if I get fired. I can find another job7
-
I’ve lost my groove. I don’t know how to get it back. I haven’t done any developing just for the fuck of it in months. At least not since I lost my job. I can feel my brain turning to mush. Anyone have any zen shit to kick me back into the zone? Is that even a fair ask?4
-
When you do work on a front end ticket. You implement the things as UX tells you to, make a few mistakes, fix those as well when QA catches them.
But then UX realizes other improvements they can make , so you toss some of those in and move some of the other shit to tech debt to avoid possibly failing the sprint due to rabbit hole of front end awfulness because you suck at your job.
Then later somebody else a couple degrees above you in job hierarchy, notes a couple tips and things you could fix unrelated to your ticket. But when will it ever end or do. I suck and hate front end work, AY LMAO LEMME SUBMIT THE SAME SHIT WHICH RENDERS DIFFERENTLY BETWEEN CHROME vs CHROMIUM AND EVERYTHING THAT USES CHROMIUM.1 -
Does gitlab have a horrible work culture?
Been attending lots of gitlab webinars and workshops lately and the presenters are burned the fuck out. Maybe that is the shit job no one wants to do.
Anyone work there that can comment?1 -
Don't have a cs degree, when I was in college I didn't know what I wanted to do, so I got an bachelor's in math figuring that would open a lot of doors. Did a boot camp after college to test the waters and found out i had a real passion for engineering. 2 years later I am teaching people with Masters in cs how to get shit done at my job. Morale of the story, your education in the theoretical doesn't mean shit when it's time to get practical work done.
-
Office manager/HR:
• this is fucked up!
• I fucking hate this shit of a job
• I took a pay cut to get this job MF
• come near me and I'll cut you #moodtoday
Anyone else have similar experience with HR? -
Mom and dad randomly came home and bought me a brand new 15 pro max as a gift for starting my first devops job on 15th december... I didnt ask for this. Nor do i urgently need it. I wanted to buy it myself when i earn money. But i cant be ungrateful so ill be humble and appreciate this gift. I feel bad for them, they are broke and are now paying off this phone for 2 years every month. additional unnecessary stress of money shit on top of their back and i dont like that. Need to give them back as soon as i earn from this shit job and also buy my mom the same phone for her bday thats in 3 months5
-
Why would she contact me for a job that needs ASAP attention and not show up after I gave her my salary expectation, I bet she is expecting a $1-$2 salary expectation from me, crazy recruiters I wonder if there's a university for that shit,
Hi guys, another recruiter shit!!!!1 -
Just because I didn't get the logic of your labyrinth testing script doesn't mean I'm a bad programmer! Why the fuck do you choose which programmers to get with a Shit labyrinth JS script. I got all the programming right and now I probably won't get the job because of this.
Oh yeah and I did apply for a php job btw. -
When a new manager joins ur team and start talking about shit he doesn't even understand and use the word "sacrifices"... Bitch, i've being in this entrepreneurship doing the job of 5 ppol for 5 years don't talk 2 me about sacrifice and compromise 🙄1
-
🚽🪠I shitted like 5-7 times today💩. Dont even know exactly how many. This cant be normal. How is it possible for so much shit to be inside me? Where does it fit? Im full of shit. Maybe thats why job interviews and schools are also full of shit cause they all shit 10 times a day. I have to flush toilet at least 2 times so all the shit can go through. Its that big of a shit4
-
What's a no CS degree, zero experience, experienced a short boot camp, was hoping this would be his break and spent a shit ton of money on it, person gotta do to get a developer job?12

When business people are so fucking shit at their job, you need the damn devs to do their job for them and ask about KPIs and alternative business models

Friend of mine during workshops yesterday:
F: "Shit, my copying is broken (ctrl c shortcut)"
Me: "stack overflow down and/or broken copy/paste - worst nightmare"
F: "oh it works again... For a moment there i was afraid im gonna loose my job..."
* I guess the comedy of situation doesn't translate well to rant, but still, it was funny * -
Year 1.5 into my first job and three bosses and several teammates have already left the company. Not sure why. Is this how shit works in general?4

Very good new country that my job sent me to. But im running on this rain now back to the hotel so i can take the biggest fattest meanest smelliest shit ever4

When you get a job that is advertised as a software development job, but you end up doing 80% software development and 20% help desk support tickets.
Sometimes I really hate this industry. Also, what is it with people assuming software developers can just wave a fucking wand and make shit work? FUARKKKKKK!
Free overtime when we're deploying too, fuck yes! I love free overtime!1 -
Best: Getting really close to my team and having good times with them as well as having a client love their website so much they sent me gifts and a really nice note.
Worst: Rude client who treated me like shit, made my job 103837xs harder and made me want to cry, scream and not want to come in to work ever again.1 -
New job, same shit: looks like a lot of companies now are full (or have at least one) of superheros, which are thinking they are better or smarter just because they like not to use packages and reinvent a wheel each time . So if you are using build-in or 3d party modules you are evil
-
Actually get out of my shit job, and move into IT.
Also fix my left constantly dislocating shoulder before I lose it.
And the obvious, learn more ...1 -
In my job - I have nothing meaningful to do and it drives me fucking insane, I'm pulling my hair out of boredom. Got nothing to do that makes me proud at the end of the day. I'm going through Lynda courses all day... Bored. Out. Of. My. Mind. Can't quit either because the pay is too high. I'm stuck. Shit. Crap. Damn it :-(2
-
Third week in this job and it takes seniors 2 weeks to approve merge request that consists of 3 lines. So many pretentious discussions. Fuck all of you approve this shit so I could be happy with at least some progress.3
-
Realizing that C# is far more easier to read than Java - I'll never take a job for that shithole/shithouse language in the industry (lmfao). I barely touch either...
How much shit am I gonna get from people for this? Larry Ellison's fanboys are gonna crucify me. I'm suicidal anyway lol5 -
A new job position in programming is going to crop up if programming tools can be created to replace lower tier programmers. It will be a programmer that can manage AI Programmers. Some kind of AI Manager that can sort through, direct, and review code written by code generators. I cannot imagine the shit this person will have to wade through.1
-
I've always been unsure if I was good enough to consider myself a developer, but at my first job out of college, I've convinced the right people that I know my shit. Now I'm on project writing a VBA script that compiles some pretty important data.
It's not huge, but it's still pretty unheard of as a customer support contractor at this major company. -
Has anyone engineered getting layoff before?
I don't know why, but I dread waking up to the job. It all seems meaningless and a waste of time. I know I'm coming from a place of privilege. But what's the point of doing something you abhor and trading your life for money on shit you hate?1 -
Today my friend told me that it's part of our job to calmly and politely explain to our non-tech manager about the tech things (tradeoffs, risks, possibilities, etc.).
And I answered him: but my manager is techy, his title is literally "technical manager".
My friend: oh... shit. -
I would give myself so much shit for this.
Sales cloud architect, if I needed the money.
I give sales so much shit, like you've got no idea how much shit. I almost lost my job because I called the sales team at my job "soulless husks of meat and sin".
It's not an easy job but damn I was really fucking good at it.
If money was no problem, I would probably become a restoration artist.
I love to restore old homes, furniture, tvs, radios, etc. -
Laravel Excel is shit and has shit documentation as well. PHPExcel may not be as pretty as a bunch of callbacks but it's more efficient and actually gets the job done.6
-
I've been for 1 month in my first job as dev and I have a demo on Wednesday about some stuff either I didn't do myself and nor have any idea of how it works. De demo is 6 mins with the full project tribe... from ppl over the globe... wish me shit.6
-
I really find it quite annoying when my colleague refactors my code. I personally don't see the point because I find my code more readable, easy to main and intuitive. That of course is a subjective view. Problem is, there aren't any competent colleagues who can weigh in their opinion on disagreements in the team. In fact, I'm pretty sure they aren't even developers, and have some how infiltrated their way in claiming to be a software developer.
Oh yeah, the manager doesn't review our performance or keep up to date with the work people are doing.
I'm not even exaggerating.1 -
My first job was partially support oriented. Had to work in shifts and just close issue tickets. Learnt Python, automated shit, only to quit it later for a better job :)
-
Never went to Uni.
I am currently a College student (UK).
I've also got a part time job as a Web Developer.
I've got this job because I was able to prove myself.
Nothing I've learned at the College is useful for my job.
I've seen a lot of fresh graduates getting jobs at my company. They think they know their shit - that is until they get smashed by reality.
From what I've seen the CS degree is not worth a penny. I might still go to Uni but I'd rather choose a different subject.3 -
Reading devRant and new job postings is leaving me with less time to write any code in this shit hole.
-
Went to take a shit
But before i rolled my pants down i thought about having to waste time to roll my pants down waste time to sit down waste time to shit waste time to wipe waste time to get up waste time to pull my pants up waste time to back to chair and frankly.... i got quite overwhelmed already so i said Fuck off just stfu and shit inside my guts. And so i did. I refused shitting in toilet and got back to my chair to let my stomach now shit inside me and shit all over my guts. Fuck off. Dont give a fuck. Im too old and too fucking tired to waste so much time shitting. From now on ill have to hold my shit and shit inside of myself until i really really cant take the load and need to dump it somewhere outside my body
So because of that I'll literally walk full of shit. I'll be The Shit. Full of bullshit. Exactly how full of bullshit are the recruiters are the entire job market, and especially, how FULL of BULLSHIT is the ENTIRE CORPORATE WORLD6 -
Not job but during internship, the guy I didn’t like gave me the electrical circuit task, with acid bath and shit. I had to create 2 from the original tEmplate. I realized one copy had one of its connecting plate removed by mistake. I duplicated my mistake on the second copy as well.

ok it's official
I love Kamala Harris
she's so fucking hilarious
(the editing is annoying BUT LMAO): https://vxtwitter.com/mitchellvii/...
oh my God can you imagine replying like that at a job, but thinking you're hot shit. this person runs a country now
it's amazing. I love it. I'm dying7 -
Worst: Not landing a decent job
Best: dev-wise, none really.
It has been a rather shit year, really.14 -
Nothing to do. No fucking work here and im not hired for BE. Fucking BE doesn't do shit and im here like ZzZzZz. New job interview next thursday. Screw this shit!2

> Colleagues complain all the time about dumb shit which have no relevance whatsoever to the job (see my "cat in voice call" post): I get scolded, I need to change
> I complain for the first time in 2 years about relevant stuff which actually matters to the job (some guy collecting bad decisions one after the other): I get scolded, I shouldn't trash talk colleagues
The key lesson I'm learning here is how everyone is allowed to do everything towards everyone, everytime, but by God don't you dare doing it about what should be relevant about your fucking job. We don't do that here.1 -
What should I do if I can't get a Leetcode answer?
Should I just keep hammering along and stress myself out until I get the answer, or look at the answer and try to learn from that?
I'm trying to find a new job and am pretty shit at algorithms.5 -
Anyone else's job expect you to fix bugs in your niche app that even the global giants don't give a shit about? Like, have you seen the weird shit that happens with YouTube and Hulu? Our app has neither the staff nor the budget of these big brands, if they haven't fixed it, we probably won't.2

Friend of mine works at an Apple store. He works on iPhones but wants to move to a new job. He texts me asking about fleet Management and such; then I shit you not he texts me asking me how to use Slack, and where he can learn it.
-
My current employer...
In 3000 coworkers they have many things, but a team is not one of them... Fuuck -
A friend of mine told me about his new job and his salary, it is lower then in his previous job. After i told him that this is not good and the negotiated salary in general is shit he wants to talk about it again with them. The interview process is done but he didnt sign the contract till now, right now he is waiting for it.
What do you think would be the best approach to get more money in this moment ?
Im sorry for bad grammar, im drunk and english is not my motherlanguage3 -
Look at job ad. Server less, micro services, nodejs, react, vue, docker. While I still stuck in lamp stack. How do I ever find a new job? Learning those shit at spare Time. Employer said need at least 1 year commercial experience at those shit1

Basic imposter syndrome and fear of getting called out on something and losing my job.
Or in my current situation where I have a terrible bastard of a manager, fear of not getting my resume updated and start calling people about jobs.
If I got fired right now, I honestly wouldn't care that much. This world is going to shit. -
Seems like there's no perfect balance at work, good at what you're doing? Take that promotion, also now you handle this and that!
Mediocre little shit? uhhh we won't promote him/her but whatever they do something at least.
Man I love my job and my company but fucking hell it seems like people never stop demanding shit from you and when you tell them no they judge you and call you names, like seriously wtf? is there no fucking thing called balance?4 -
When you play on lagacy shit spaghetti monster code with a fucking ass crack boss don't understand anything and bullshit you (yaya that code is perfect) !
I just want to drop that fucking job full of shit
Week 2 😂🤣😭 8 months come2 -
I'm still a student, I'm attending my second year of university. Today I got what I could call a job offer. But tbh I'm not sure about that. The company that should hire me doesn't exist yet and I will work as a part-time employee until I finish the university. Idk I feel like I'm not suited for the job (I will work as Web Dev), like I'm not good enough even for a job that still doesn't exist. Yeah I'm shit2

Any advice for when ur managers don't do their job well and if u say something is not done right, then they will let u do it?
FFS im tired that shit not being done right but im not looking for doing their job for them while they get paid more and sit in facebook3 -
Got a full stack job in a really large org. They write shit code and refuse to comment on code saying the code should explain itself.
And I’m like yeah but if you’re writing spaghetti code at least fucking comment why.
The new job’s pay is like 2x my old job so it’s really fucking good pay but my brain is melting from frustrations with these devs.4 -
I could slack around all the time and then switch to "the devil" mode in the last week. Oh and I could use mumbo jumbo words to confuse the shit outta my clients(and boss). Plus I could automate maintenance job and get so much time at 'hand'(quite literally)
-
Fuck nrwl.
This stupid puddle of barf software that gets talked over like it's the shit. Nothing remotely useful works when using it. It always craps out some dumb exceptions that have nothing to do with your actual code but the dumb fuck, that didn't have the brain cells to think half a step ahead when doing his job.
It's just a buggy, mostly useless piece of shit that some guys in nice suits sell like it's jesus 2.0.
I hope you burn in hell.
I haven't been this mad since a looong time.2 -
I understand that is is much more personal preference but I figure suggestions will point me in a direction to explore.
Suggestion on mouse and keyboard?
As expected I'm coding a lot more now that I have a job doing it but that also means more hand and finger fatigue, stock shit just ain't cutting it.2 -
Went for an internship interview today
Interviewers= tell us a little about yourself
Me thinking haha I can mention the time I took a 300 level course in my freshman year (have ranted about this) and show them I can take up a challenge = I'm known in my batch for not making smart decisions
Interviewers = sarcastic clap
What the actual fuck,no why why would I even start off like this fucking shit what even am I stupid what even. Great job man great job.3 -
First two days in a new job.
It's pretty good. I love the fact that I don't have to work alone. I've got a temporary workstation since we are replacing laptops next month. It's shit and Unity is lagging, but I'll manage.
So yeah, life's good currently. I wonder how long will it take to become shitty again.5 -
Not really a rant, but I quit the job I hated for one that pays more and will also give me a set schedule so that I can actually get some coding done for once! (Last job had me on random open or close shifts and that shit fucks with your head after a while) I'm so stoked. Looks like I might finish my projects before Christmas after all, whooo!

Becoming a real piece of shit.
When a friend who has no responsibilities and no costs gets a higher paid dev job than I've ever wanted, in an area with a lower CoL.
A normal decent human being would be happy for his friend. I however am not. Guess I deserve what happens1 -

Right now i'm working as a volunteer developer for a discord server. I've recently been learning JDA (a Discord API java wrapper) and I wanted to get some experience in a more real world environment by working on a Discord Bot. What a mistake
The owner of the server has written some pretty messy, but solid code, and I was asked to build as sort of “punishment system” (warns, kicks, mutes, bans, all of which timed). It started off fine, me doing some work, getting some critic, all good. Soon, it started to get worse. At every point of the way, while i’m working I have him trying to make me add new features, and change massive existing ones even after i’ve done them and moved on with his permission! I keep telling him, “it’s a work in progress, please wait”, but it never stops.
I’m planning to resign, but I have to continue to dodge him and his “suggestions” as I simply want to finish my work, and get out. The reason I need to avoid his as, I feel that if I was to alert him I was to leave in advance, things would only get worse in the time while I stayed.

I was all hyped up coz I WHINED AND BITCHED FOR MONTHS against a 5-6y old B2B company offering, that it's shit n needs to be remade
And they agreed, n only 2 people assigned to it yet, the last chief architect and me
But last guy is old n is the one who made it shit in the first place (we use Windows Tasks in a Windows Server, triggering once every minute to pretend background tasks)
n he doesnt even want 2 branches (: And is still making the same mistakes that made the last implementation shit n it's hard to stop him coz he senior and old
And now I kinda dont care, but have to coz job market's shit

Well, I guess that I have to practice more CTACs questions... Shit the job sound it really interesting...2
-
Embedded programmer here, recently my job is nothing but android, web shit and webservices (no offense). i guess it's time to find a new job.
-
Guy advertises job. Decent pay, decent benefits, all in all decent package.
Guy replies to request for further information with some shit about being able to get you 50 calls from people who will hire you but would you want to work for them... well that's why i didn't apply to 50 jobs you applied to the 1, because it sounded like you would want to work for them.
Then guy says they are paying a lot less than avertised, and the advert is basically bullshit to get him people to give his 50 opportunities shit to.2 -
Linked in job search had to be one of three most poorly with ui I've used, everything i apply for a job i get a pop-up that blocks the submit button saying make sure your resume is updated, no fucking shit quit bothering me like a nagging feminist
Fuck their shit platform1 -
Am I doing something wrong or am I the only one not able to install anything on Pop! OS?
Googling doesn't find me this issue what so ever.
It always tells me about some dependencies and that it won't install them.
And then i have to do --reinstall, which either does it's job or tells me shit can't be downloaded.
Wtf is this shit? I love pop os but for gods sake let me install libsdl or wine or anything else!5 -
So this supposed dev ops job has devolved into first support.
This shit honestly doesn't even make sense to me
Time to start looking5 -
Holy fucking shit. Trying to earn magic internet money or start my own business is much harder than i expected. Its so fucking exhausting. Now that i tried (and of course failed) and when i come back to this traditional 9-5 job hunting slave shit... I can't believe how easy having a job is! Are you kidding me. Having a job is like the simplest thing someone can do. Sure id earn at least a minimum wage and sure i wouldn't be happy but i can get a job and then what? How is $500/month gonna solve all of my problems + my gfs problems + my parents problems? Fuck outta here. What must a dev do to get paid high salary shit. This shits ridiculous. Please send me links of some remote work websites where i can actually apply and get hired for a decent salary
-
When it comes to work, I wouldn't say that I get low motivation. In every single job that I have been in I have seen some terrible coding, or when I review my previous stuff I find it was also terrible. Always wanting to improve/refactor stuff is always a motivation as it'll in turn make me a better programmer. Also I hold that belief that you have to do the shit out of your job since you can be replaced!
-
Great, when that happens i can waste more time on devrant, writing shit about JS, PHP and the A.I who steal my job ☺
-
Optics matter. You could be doing a shit job (as a developer), but if you keep up the good optics with the boss, agreeing to build a calculus app in the future, even though the multiplication api you are currently working on keeps throwing error, you'll look good.2
-
Errrm, so in my first rant, I said that I was trying to get a remote job paying at least 30k/y. It turns out I'm currently in the middle of a selection process to a 45k/y job.
I already made the first interview and two tests ( 2 quizzes at Coderbyte), and this Saturday I'm doing the last test ( a small node.js project).
But holy shit I was so bad at the second test, it was only four questions (their difficulty in coderByte was "hard" ), and I had two hours to answer them, but, I could only do two of them and with a garbage score.
Do you guys think I still have a chance to get the job if I do a good job in the final project?
PS: The first interview was pretty nice and i got a positive feedback, also in the first test I scored 100%1 -
Ever regretted leaving a job after quitting it for a while, only to remember all the shit you had to go through to them think that it was an amazing decision to leave.
Imagine this loop happening every few months. It's amazing how stupid your brain can be eh.
Share your stories of a nightmare job but now you are living a life with living.
